Superbat Week Day 3: Alien Biology
For @superbatweek2024
“I’ve been meaning to ask, how exactly is it that you fly?”
Clark looks at Bruce, eyebrow raised quizzically. “What do you mean?”
“Well,” Bruce starts, gesturing at Clark’s form as the man in question happily eats Chocos out of the box, “how exactly does it work? J’onn, for instance, levitates with the help of his telekinetic abilities. It would be useful to understand how it works for you.”
Clark then gives him a huge grin, eyes twinkling with either amusement or the option Bruce hates most: mischief. “It’s because I actually have invisible wings!”
“Clark.”
“No, it’s true,” Clark insists, eyes wide. “Kryptonian biology is very different from most species, you know.”
“Clark.”
“Fine, fine,” Clark huffs. “It’s no fun trying to pull the wool over your eyes, you know? You could throw me a bone every now and then.”
“Of course,” Bruce admits. “But where’s the fun in that?”
Clark throws his Chocos at him, grinning.
--
“Hey, Spooky!”
Bruce turns begrudgingly at the grating sound of Hal Jordan’s voice. He supresses the part of him that is curious. After all, Hal usually— and thankfully— avoids him for the most part. It gives Bruce a lot more peace in his day, but also has the unintended and unwelcome side effect of making him interested whenever the man swallows his pride to approach him.
“Did you know about this? Did you know and just decide to keep this from everyone?”
“I don’t know what you mean.”
Hal rolls his eyes. “I’m talking about Supes, man.” He looks around the empty corridor, and leans in closer to Bruce, voice dropping to a whisper.
“Did you know that he has invisible wings?”
It must be an effect of all the idiocy in the air around him, but it’s almost like Bruce can feel his thoughts coming to a screeching halt in his head.
“I… he what?”
The first thing that occurs to him when his brain begins to function again is that Clark is probably way prouder of this idea than he has any right to be. And apparently, for good reason, because Hal seems completely taken in.
Bruce hates being wrong. Especially about this.
“Yeah! He sorta mentioned it in passing… but damn, you think you know a guy, huh?”
Bruce says nothing. He simply watches Hal stand before him, rubbing his head in consternation. And in his fugue state, Bruce makes one of the most questionable decisions of his life.
“I knew.”
“What?” Hal shrieks. “You knew? And didn’t mention this to anyone?”
“It wasn’t my secret to tell.”
Hal frowns. “I guess…” Then he sighs, running a hand through his hair, frustration visible on his face. “I guess you’d know that, huh? And I can safely say that it’s the truth, cause you’re allergic to pranks and fun.”
“Goodbye, Jordan.”
--
By the end of the day, the whole Watchtower knows of Superman’s magical invisible wings. Bruce can hear the poorly hushed conversations flooding through the entire satellite.
“Batman said he had them, so it must be true!”
“Yeah, he hates fun, he’d never go along with it if it was a prank!”
If only they knew.
--
“—And now people keep asking if they can feel them!” Clark huffs, head resting on Bruce’s lap.
“Mm.”
“It was funny at first, and it still is… but now, I think it’s falling apart.”
Bruce pats his forehead. “All pranks come to an end. It’s an immutable fact of life.”
“It’s just too good to be over so soon!”
Bruce wisely keeps his thoughts about the quality of Clark’s pranks to himself. Instead, he looks up from his laptop to observe the silent pout on his face, and makes a few calculated decisions. Then he picks up one of Alfred’s cookies and tosses it at Clark’s face.
“What’s this for?” asks Clark, confusedly.
“I’m throwing this at you, in lieu of a bone.”
--
Bruce has faced many dangers throughout his career as a superhero. Dangerous criminals, the best martial artists in the world, magic users, and even literal demons. But this might be the hardest thing he’s ever done.
“You want me to make Clark a pair of…” Zatanna trails off, and looks back down at the piece of paper he’d handed her. “…invisible attachable magic wings?”
“Yes.”
Zatanna looks up at him, looking absolutely miserable.
“What did you do this time?”
Bruce bristles and glares. “Nothing.”
“If you’re in the doghouse, it’s best you fix whatever you’ve done on your own—”
“It’s not an apology present. I’m helping him with a project.” Zatanna looks mildly curious for a split second, and realization dawns on her face.
“So his invisible wings aren’t real?” she whispers, looking stricken.
Self-control. Bruce is a master of self-control. He will not raise his palm to slap it against his forehead. He will not give into that ever-present urge.
“Of course not.”
“Damn,” she murmurs, looking away as though revaluating her entire existence. Luckily for her, so is Bruce.
But she bounces back fairly quickly, which is only a credit to her character. “All right, I’m down.”
“Thank you.”
--
“You know,” Zatanna insists as she rolls up her sleeves theatrically, wand already held in her hand, “I’ve never seen you go the extra mile for a prank before. You really love him, don’t you?”
“…Just do the spell.”
--
Clark’s wings are a big hit. The Hawks are especially thrilled. Bruce loses just a little more faith in everyone’s competency per second.
But seeing Clark’s excited face as he beats his invisible wings and bamboozles everybody within arm’s reach makes it all worth it. Not that he would ever admit as much to the man himself.
But unfortunately (or fortunately, if Alfred is to be believed), Clark knows him too well for all that.
“How hard was it to ask Zatanna to make these for me?” When Bruce doesn’t reply, Clark just grins, his arms coming to wrap around Bruce from the back. “I bet it was hard. I know how much you hate asking for favours.”
“They aren’t permanent, so enjoy them while they last.”
“Sure, sure.” Clark stops speaking, and the Batcave is left in its natural state of silence.
“Thank you, Bruce.”
Bruce doesn’t turn to look at him. “It’s just a pair of wings. Zatanna made them in five seconds.”
“That’s not what I mean. I just—” Clark leans in closer, pressing himself against Bruce’s back, and Bruce can feel his warmth flooding through him.
“This was the silliest thing ever, but you went along with it anyway.”
“Clark.” Bruce turns himself around in Clark’s arms, and lays a hand on his face. “It’s not silly. If you found it amusing, who am I to get in your way?”
“I was so sure you found it… what’s the word you used? Juvenile?”
Bruce gives him one of his lesser, weaker glares. “And now you’ve decided that I’m an expert in comedy? After all the time I’ve spent projecting the opposite?” Clark just laughs, quietly, subdued in a way that leaves Bruce feeling profoundly uneasy.
“I guess…”
Bruce pats his head, ruffling through his hair. “Since when have you cared so much about what I think?”
Clark just looks at him, and then sighs, dropping his head down onto Bruce’s shoulder. “I always care about what you think,” he mutters. “Your opinion means the world to me.”
Bruce’s first thought is to tell Clark that his faith is misplaced. That Bruce isn’t as worthy of admiration or respect as Clark seems to think. That Clark is giving him far too much credit.
But there’s something in the way Clark says those words, quiet and heavy, that renders him speechless, unable to say anything; something that leaves him wishing that it could be true. And so, he just stands there, in Clark’s embrace, trying to convey all the things he can’t say.
It’s Clark who breaks the silence, obviously. “You know… if I told you I had invisible wings right now, that wouldn’t be a lie…”
“I suppose so.”
“I guess I am different from you today. Biologically. Even on the outside.”
“I can’t argue with that.”
“So…” Clark lifts his head up to look at him, expression positively sultry. “There’s a lot of fun we could have with these. Don’t you think so?”
Bruce just looks into his eyes, and raises a hand to run his finger along the soft surface of Zatanna’s magical wings. He drags his hand back, and rests both his arms around Clark’s neck.
“Let it never be said that I don’t know how to have a good time.”
Clark laughs, and kisses him.
--
“You know,” Clark says, conversationally, idly messing with Bruce’s hair. “I might not have actually had magic wings, but you know what I do have?”
“A penchant for silly pranks?”
Bruce looks up to find Clark waggling his eyebrows, mayhem already gathering in his eyes. “Well, yes,” Clark says, “but I was thinking more along the lines of horns that can detect lies. What do you think?”
Bruce just sighs, and buries his face in Clark’s shoulder. “I can’t lie to your horns. That’s a terrible idea.”
“So…”
“Fine. Let’s do it.”

"🐝❓️" poll winner, "🏙🌃", oh whoops we accidentally an apiary dynamics Superbat fic!! Also, no, Clark does not currently have any idea wtf an apiary gender is. Not even slightly does he have an idea. ❤️
“I . . . might have a problem,” Clark admits, trying not to wince. “Several problems, actually.”
“Okay,” Lois says, raising an eyebrow at him as she lowers the copy of the Daily Star that she’s been writing insulting edits and patronizing corrections on in red pen. They’re eating an early breakfast in their apartment while Jon sleeps in, given it’s the weekend. It seemed like the best time to broach the subject, given there’s been no actual good time to broach the subject in, uh . . . the entire past decade, basically. “Shoot, Smallville.”
Clark doesn’t actually know how to start this conversation. Actually he was sort of hoping the conversation would just happen organically at some point in the past decade, but it has definitely not done that, and to be fair it’s not really an organic kind of conversation topic anyway, considering, so–
It’s just, well . . . he has a problem, definitely. Several problems.
Specifically, Bruce’s kids are his several problems.
It’s not that he minds Bruce’s kids. Obviously he doesn’t mind Bruce’s kids. Literally not a single one of them, in fact, including the ones that he doesn’t ethically agree with! Just because he doesn’t personally ethically agree with them all doesn’t mean they’re not still Bruce’s kids! Bruce doesn’t even personally ethically agree with them all!
The thing is, Bruce keeps getting them, and Clark does not know how to explain how personally embarrassing that is for him. Dick was one thing, and Jason was . . . slightly less different as a thing, he guesses, if a lot more complicated what with the . . . everything, and everything, but then Tim happened, and Stephanie, and Cass, and Damian, and now apparently Bruce is fostering another teenager who might or might not already be a superhero–Duke Thomas, Bruce said his name was, though he didn’t actually confirm the superhero part, just gave Clark a dry look about it when he asked, and–
“You’re vibrating again, honey,” Lois informs him, putting down her pen. Clark doesn’t blush, because he is a grown goddamn alien who isn’t buzzing because his–because his Bruce won’t just–
He cannot ever, ever explain this to Bruce himself, but Clark is mad at him. Specifically, Clark is mad at him because if Bruce wants kids so bad, why hasn’t he just asked him for some?!
This is an insane person’s thought, Clark is fully aware. They’re not in any kind of a relationship in which Bruce would expect him to give him children. Not sleeping together, not dating, and definitely not married. His own wife is, in fact, literally sitting at the breakfast table ten feet away from his pacing, and Bruce at least tried to marry Selina, and also–
And also, if Bruce wants kids so bad, why hasn’t he just asked him?!
He’s Superman. He is literally Superman. He could get Bruce so many kids. All the kids. Any kids he wanted. He could do anything short of gestate him one. So why does Bruce just keep getting them on his own instead of just asking him?!

don’t come after me, but idk if i fw damijon.
sure it’s really cute when you see it around, whether they’re kids or adults them having a little crush on each other *is* a cute idea. but i feel like throughout comic history the supersons have always worked better as friends. just between their interactions and the way they care for each other, i feel like the whole thing between them (before they aged jon up) could be a really good depiction of friendship.
i feel like in media people downplay platonic love compared to romantic love, and during the supersons era (before jon aged up), it was a really good way to show that type of relationship, especially with kids who prioritize that platonic-ness (is that a word)
i feel like this also applies to the old teen titans, whether dirk or kory dated or not the team always had that platonic backbone, which made the story more interesting. and how CERTAIN justice league runs suck because the league is talking to each other like coworkers instead of friends.
not that damijon can’t be platonic *and* romantic, but i feel like making them have a romantic relationship waters down that platonic love that makes their relationship so compelling and fun to read to begin with.
that being said, i *do* fw timkon sometimes, so i’m a total hypocrite. i just think that damijon works better as FRIENDS, than other superbat ships.

I cannot stop thinking about this idea so: Dick and Jason ship war.
They are both extremely overprotective of their dad Bruce dating life, but they like to theoretically discuss it in the way with who he should be shipped.
Jason as proud Wonder Woman stan convinced that Bruce do not deserve this Goodness, but he would like to see her as his other parent.
Dick is superbat truther for life, because "HAVE YOU SEEN THEM?! SO MUCH TENSION, ARE YOU BLIND?! BE FOR REAL!".
This started as a funny haha family discussion and ended as a bloody war. They are also trying to get batfamily and some JL members on their side. Yeah, even Alfred, but he refused to give any comments about it.
#in the end of the day everybody has a strong opinion about with who they ship Bruce#meanwhile Bruce is having bi-panic in the corner#because he's surrounded by hot people#batman#batfam#batfamily#dick grayson#jason todd#superbat#wonderbat#bruce wayne

(2024) TickleTober Day 1: Harvest - Going against the Grain
Fic Descript - Bruce agrees to help out on the Kent farm and, after an off-handed comment from Clark, he decides to see how ticklish superman actually is.
~A/N - Welcome to ticklecrowber2024!!!! (forgive the corny title hehehehehe)
We're starting off this month with a super cute superbat fic requested by an anon. While writing it I'm realising this is gonna be a pre-relationship romantic fic, so hopefully that floats your boat.
Like I mentioned on a post ages ago, I'm not aiming to write full fics for all the prompts this year to hopefully avoid burnout so I'm going into this aiming for a few hundred words - we'll see how that goes.
Hope you like it!
- Enoy! ~

TickleTober Masterpost
One of the (few) things Bruce hated about being in love with someone was the way it made him do things.
And not in a suggestive or psychological way, literally he felt compelled to gain some sort of relationship 'brownie points' to subtly prove his worth as a potential partner.
Which was how he had ended up here, about to knock on the door of Clark's farm home.
When superman mentioned needing to do some hard labour around the fields up in Kansas, Bruce found himself offering to help before he could even blink. It wasn't until Clark enthusiastically accepted that the batman fully realised what he had gotten himself into.
Mixing their work and personal lives? At Clark's house no less? Doing something that probably was effortless for Clark, but would be a significant physical strain for Bruce? What was he thinking?! He'll look like a fool...
But, as much as his brain loved to insist on how much of a bad idea this was, Bruce had resisted the temptation to cancel.
And so, he now found himself raising his fist and tapping the wooden door-frame.
"Bruce!" Clark grinned, opening the door fully.
The man was dressed so stereotypically farm-y, Bruce thought to himself. Brown leather boots half-covered by a pair of old denim jeans, topped with a plain white tee and - god he looked good in that red flannel...
"-are you... did you want to come in?" Clark chuckled.
Shit, had Clark invited him in already? Was he that distracted by the superhero in front of him that he fully disregarded any input other than the sight- wait it's happening again-
"Yes!" Bruce blurted out, interrupting his own thoughts. "Sorry, yes. Thanks."
Ugh love made him a mess.
As Clark narrated and explained his way through his humble abode, Bruce couldn't help but get stuck in his own head - again. He barely registered that they had left the house and were now walking through the wheat fields. He knew Clark was giving some really important information as to what exactly they needed to do and where they would need to do it, but it was almost as if his brain was more focused on the sound of Clark's voice than what it was actually saying.
Until Clark giggled.
Like a gunshot, Bruce locked onto the sound with unbridled curiosity. What had caused it? Would it happen again? Whatever it was clearly didn't phase Clark, as he was back to talking about whatever farmyard jargon that was interrupted earlier.
A few more moments passed, and Bruce had never been more focused on Clark's surroundings. What could possibly have made superman laugh like that? And how common of an occurrence was it if Clark didn't even acknowledged it?
Thankfully, it happened again - with Bruce watching the whole thing.
As Clark walked, a few stray spikes of wheat brushed against his bare lower forearms (where he had rolled up the aforementioned flannel). His hand twitched reflexively, and he once again let out a soft giggle at the sensation.
And, once again. Bruce's mouth moved before his brain could catch up.
"What was that?"
Clark half-turned his torso to face Bruce. "Oh, it just tickles."
Bruce flushed at the casualness of Clark's response.
"It's actually one of my favourite parts of walking through here..." Clark continued with a genuine smile. "Something so small being so intense, makes me feel soft.... alive... human..."
Only Clark could make getting tickled by a plant sound so endearing, it was almost enough to make Bruce forget the huge tidbit of Clark lore that had just been revealed to him.
Superman's ticklish??
He didn't have much time to feel the full shock of that information, as Clark was already several paces ahead of him. Bruce half-skipped to catch up, and as he did, something in his mind convinced him to snap off a piece of wheat from beside him.
As they continued their walk towards the edge of the field where they were about to begin work, and Clark continued yapping, Bruce ran his fingers over the wheat piece in his hand. Was he seriously about to try to tickle superman? Would Clark be alright with it? Would he find it weird and repulsive and never speak to Bruce again cause how could he possibly think that was a normal thing to-
stop - Bruce interrupted himself.
no overthinking
Bruce took a breath, slightly sped up his footsteps to bring himself right behind Clark, and ran the wheat stalk along the side of Clark's neck.
Clark folded with a shriek and a giggle, his smile never fading as he gave Bruce a quizzical look.
That smile was all the invitation Batman needed.
With a smirk, Bruce tackled Clark into the wheat next to them and climbed on top of his chest before frantically twiddling the wheat stem against any potentially ticklish bare skin he could find. Clark's neck, ears, collarbones - even the small patch on his tummy that was exposed from his shirt riding up as they fell - nothing was safe.
And Clark's laughter was like birdsong - it was the most free, happy, genuine giggling Bruce had ever heard. So much so, the billionaire opted to snatch another piece of wheat to use in his free hand against Clark's forearms - which were currently doing fuck-all to fight against the tickly attacks (aside from clinging to and breaking some nearby wheat stems, but Bruce theorised that was mostly for Clark to resist fighting back... cute).
After a sufficient tickling, Bruce paused - mentally checking for any signs of annoyance on Clark's face and letting the man calm down for a few moments.
"Why'd you stop?" Clark asked breathily without missing a beat, and now looking slightly disappointed.
Once again caught aback by Clark's openness, Bruce stuttered and floundered for an answer. "I... I was just... I wanted to... make sure... you..."
Clark laughed. "No need to panic, it was just a question."
Bruce chuckled, still a little embarrassed.
"You always worry so much." Superman smiled, poking Bruce's neck with one of the wheat stalks he had snatched during the tickle-attack to emphasise his point.
Bruce squeaked (though he would later insist this wasn't true), his face flushing a deep red.
"Oh?" Clark grinned menacingly, rolling himself and Bruce over to flip their positions with clearly little-to-no effort. "The dark, scary batman is ticklish too?"
oh god
And, after being thoroughly tickled, Bruce spent the entire time they worked on the farm trying to convince himself the look on his own face before Clark tickled him definitely wasn't nervous excitement, and that he definitely wouldn't give anything do it all again.
Definitely not.

your superbats fic writer!freddy is making me super curious about how billy will face supes and bats after reading it lol
also fanfic writer freddy is so perfect. i’m now starved for it
I’d imagine it’s like watching an on and off couple in school, seeing how they are interacting with eachother and wondering what the deal of the week is (since those two can kinda flip between seeing eye to eye or not given whatever circumstance)
He’s deliberately avoiding some parts for obvious “Those are my freaking coworkers” reasons but for now in the idea I have for the fic Freddy doesn’t know Billy is personally related in any way to them. Current idea I’m running with is that Billy had his powers for a bit, hasn’t told anyone and has been running from foster homes anyway to avoid what inevitably happen to poeple heroes care about, but got caught in the familial love trap that is the Vasquez household and hasn’t found a good window to leave or tempt the idea of revealing himself yet.
It’s like showing a dude 1D fanfics not knowing he’s one of the sound guys who works with them, it’s weird and Billy was just silently dying on the inside while being weaned onto the SuperBat agenda.
Also, fanfic writer Freddy is beloved and definitely something I could see with the dude currently. He kept a journal of his adventures in the 40’s and currently thanks to movie and tie-in book canon he does have a interest in writing about superheroes on top of understanding how their powers work and stuff, even has a letter he sent to the Daily Planet (Lois specifically!) and got put in the paper.

I'm not into comics that much but why do Batman and Superman beef with each other? Like if you two don't kiss each other right now instead of fighting-
Like fuck beating the other to a pulp, just fuck each other already😑
Hi!
It really depends on what media you're following. They don't actually hate each other except in specific works. They're best friends, colleagues and at the very least, consider each other family. Even with the variety of universes in comics, Batman and Superman hating each other is very rare and in specific circumstances with reasons behind it.
Long story short: they don't (beef). They disagree and argue, sure. They're rivals, but in a manner that conveys the utmost respect for one another. Their friendship can turn toxic, too, but it's never out of hate.
Yes, there is initial friction when they start working together. Both come with a different set of values and methods to uphold justice, which is what makes their friendship so compelling. After everything, even when they don't see eye to eye, they support one another and they are there for one another. They show deep compassion and understanding for one another, even without necessarily speaking. Batman is highly observant, and Superman is endlessly compassionate.
I'm too tired to find the examples right now, but a couple of bullet points:
Batman is Superman's hero - Superman has unwavering faith in Batman even if his plans are batshit crazy. I can't find the panels rn, but there was even an arc where Batman had a plan that involved Clark slowly killing himself for a 1% chance (or something ridic like that) of saving the universe. It was horrible, but Clark trusted him no matter what.
When Bruce got engaged with Selina, there was an entire sidestory where they went on a double date with Clark and Lois, and both men went into great depth of why they admire one another and how important they are to each other. The respect between them is immeasurable.
Batman's first Robin (Dick Grayson) was a huge Superman fan, and Superman was an important part of his life. To the point that once he stopped being Robin and became Nightwing, his hero name 'Nightwing' actually comes from a Kryptonian story Superman told him.
Both Superman and Batman's respective families are closely knit, each 'bat' has a 'super' that is associated with them, either on a team with them or as friends. If they hated each other, I don't think their families would be this close-knit.
Superman knows the sound of Bruce's heartbeat and listens for it often.
Batman has a voice tone, or grunts, that is reserved for Clark only. Fun fact, the JL unanimously agrees that Clark is the best at doing the Batman voice.
They founded the Justice League together, along with Wonder Woman and other team variations (usually with the Flash and the Green Lantern).
Even in AUs where they hate each other, or they've grown apart, they still respect one another.
They have multiple comic runs as a duo/partners: World's Finest and Superman/Batman.
In one of the runs above, Superman's cousin crashes to earth and both Batman and Superman become parental figures and argue about raising her until Wonder Woman intervenes. Again, they disagree, but it was more on execution of integrating Kara onto earth.
Anyway, the idea that these heroes hate each other isn't really, at least in my experience with other comic fans, common? Mass media (such as films and video games) has a weird attachment to turning Superman into a villain to fight the allegations that he's boring, but he's actually a compelling character if you (general you, me @ the WB execs.) can get past the weird power-obsession and enjoy characters for their depth.
That said, while I do ship superbats, I have a deep appreciation for the women in their lives, especially Selina (who is able to recognize her feelings for Bruce and how they may not be good for one another) and Lois (who is such a fierce character on her own). They add so much to Batman and Superman respectively, so I whenever I talk about Superman and Batman, I make sure to mention this too.
It's important to me, especially in this ship to emphasize that it's not just about kissing the pain away, but understanding the depth and the history that comes with this relationship. Also, not erasing women for the sake of the ship, too.
Final disclaimer: comics have so many different versions, timelines and resets that someone can easily swoop in and prove me wrong, so please take everything above as my way of enjoying the comics.
If I have the energy, I will try to find the panels, but I am so tired 😭
#anyway i love superman and i love this friendship#my asks#superman#batman#clark kent#bruce wayne#superbats#superbat

take my hand, i'll fly you to the stars - a superbat oneshot
Clark Kent, Daily Planet reporter, doesn't know that Bruce Wayne is Batman. Bruce Wayne, Gotham's billionaire, doesn't know that Clark Kent is Superman. So when Superman confesses he kissed Bruce Wayne in front of Batman one day, there's only one reason as to why he began acting weird with him. Batman's homophobic. or: two idiots in love that don't know how to communicate and instead make their own assumptions.
Read it also on AO3
I know I should be writing for 'Flowerbeds' but I got a bit of writer's block and I had this idea in my head for a while so I began writing a bit to get inspiration for the fic, but I got too much inspiration for this fic and so I wrote it all. Sorry.
English is not my first language.
Being a reporter comes with a lot of benefits; you are privy to information before anyone else. You uncover truths, bring down empires. You’re the voice of the people, helping to be heard those whose voice is underwater.
You fall in love.
Alright, well, maybe that last one is not exactly tied up with the job, but for Clark Kent, Daily Planet reporter, it sure felt like it. Being born out in space and raised in a Kansas farm, the possibilities of being invited to a Wayne Charity Gala were none had it not been because of his profession, although ‘invited’ might be a bit of a stretch, more like Cat Grant had gotten sick and no one else wanted to come, not even Clark, at first.
Point is, he’s here now. His tall, broad figure easily ignore by the one percent who could perceive he didn’t belong; they could sense his suit was off the rack, his glasses from the dollar store, his watch older than most people here, a gift from his Pa when he turned eighteen, a Kent heirloom that’d been passed down every generation from father to son, something he’d probably do one day.
So no, he didn’t belong here. Nevertheless, that didn’t matter, he was here to do a job, and he hoped ‘Clark Kent, clumsy Daily Planet reporter’ would strike pity in the guests to grant him and interview.
“Mr. Paul!” Clark mumbled, his pen ‘accidentally’ falling from his hands and clattering to the polished marble floor, the stifled chuckles heard with clarity thanks to his super hearing. “Do you have anything to say about the recent allegations regarding your company’s involvement in money laundering?”
Clark was a good man, he cared about the safety of the lives of beings walking on earth, be it human or animal, but he still allowed himself from time to time to see pleasure on seeing how guilty people changed their faces when confronted about their criminal activities. The mighty, haughty smile on Mr. Paul’s face fell, a sour look replacing it.
“There’s not much I can say that hasn’t been reported on the news. We discovered the person behind it all and we have left the police to handle the matter.” Generic, memorized answer that Clark was sure his PR team had advised him to learn by rote. One explanation that in reality it meant ‘I was behind it all and I already paid the right people to not do anything about it.’
“And what about the rumors it was your people doing so to avoid bankruptcy?” Had he added more force, Mr. Paul’s wine glass flute would shatter.
“It’s just that, rumors.” Mr. Paul said acerbically. “Such a brilliant mind as yours should know better than to believe what the common mouth spews. A shame, Mr. Kent, that quite an outstanding reporter as yourself has been reduced to writing gossip columns.”
“Well, that’s why I’m coming to the source. To stop the gossips.” Clark had another question ready for the man when he conveniently received a call on his phone, raising a finger to stop his next words.
“One moment, please.”
Clark was no idiot and knew that meant ‘don’t bother me anymore’ while he saw the man walk away, his hearing revealing the man was, in fact, talking to no one.
It was fine, Clark had already learnt a thing or two more about him by other attendants with a loose tongue due to the alcohol making them more talkative than usual.
He checked his watch for the umpteenth time that night; he desperately wanted to leave, and it’d only been two hours since the gala started and the main person of the night had yet to make an appearance, the only reason he still couldn’t leave, as Perry had asked him to get at least one quote from him.
Bruce Wayne, the man every reporter just could not get a serious single answer out of him, unless you were asking about his children or ‘The Gray Ghost’.
Bruce Wayne, the Prince of Gotham, labeled as the hottest man in the world by several magazines for several years now.
Clark knew about Bruce. Everyone did. However, he hadn’t had the opportunity to meet the man, no actual reason to do so, but he’d done his research; orphaned at eight, ‘disappeared’ at sixteen, came back at twenty-three, more children than braincells, according to some people.
Single. Hot.
Yes, Clark had eyes, and he recognized the man was nice to see, staying up late at night re-watching all his interviews ever given despite not having something more to learn about his businesses or recent charities work.
Unintentionally, he did discover something else.
Bruce ‘Brucie’ Wayne was a liar.
He wasn’t as stupid as he pretended to be. Every single word that left those plump, pinkishlips was idiotic on purpose, to keep up a façade of a bimbo idiot for some reason. Business advantage, maybe?
And no, it wasn’t his slight, minimum, non-existent ‘crush’ as Lois had worded it, nor ‘all the hits to his head Bruce had gotten in all his accidents leaving him dumber every time’ theory Jimmy had concluded. No, it wasn’t anything like that.
There was a clear difference between his first interviews, his more recent ones, and all the undercover videos people had uploaded of him on social media, where he showed quite a different personality when he was with his children.
He used to be shy, withdrawn, a lot of vague answers but on point. Now he always finds a way to get into the interviewer nerves, to be obnoxious. And with his kids? Totally different. Sweet, calm. There was a recent video of him discussing with Timothy Drake about if time travel was possible, all his answers those that belonged to a scientist.
Bruce Wayne, the man who had barely stepped one foot in the ballroom and was already swarmed by potential opportunists—err, shareholders, businessmen, reporters, gorgeous, single men and women and mothers with single children that would do anything to get their daughters married off to the richest man in Gotham and, in turn, become part of that position.
All lovely people, Clark was sure.
Brucie didn’t seem to mind, though. At least, not externally. While on the outside he was all smiles, handshakes, and flirtatious jokes, his heart, Clark could hear, was beating rapidly, the tiniest crease on his temple and the way his eyes were searching for a way out.
Another point to his theory.
Clark desperately wanted to go back to his hotel room, the only good thing about this whole event. (He could totally get back home in less than a minute, but he wasn’t going to pass up on the opportunity of being pampered) but in lieu of making a beeline to where Mr. Wayne was currently being held by the arm by a beautiful blonde woman attempting to seduce him, Clarke opted to take another walk around the perimeter of the gala, keeping himself out of view.
If he wanted to get a good interview, or at least a quote, with Gotham’s most eligible bachelor, he needed to wait, not corner him like a wild animal.
Clark liked to wander and mostly hover around the food table in these kinds of events, making a bee line to the hors d'oeuvre, without fail trying to find the baked brie, glad that the staff had re-stocked them.
“I recommend the stuffed mushrooms, they’re my favourite.” Clark jumped a bit in his place, how had he managed to sneak up on him?
Clark had his breath taken away, the man was even more beautiful up close and in real life that all the pictures he’d seen of him.
“Mr. Wayne! It’s, uh—pleasure to meet you!”
“Bruce, please. Mr. Wayne was my father.”
“Bruce, then.” Clark smiled widely, enthusiastically shaking his hand until he heard a groan from the billionaire. “I—I’m so sorry, I—”
“Quite a strong hand for a reporter.”
“I… Exercise.”
“I noted.” Bruce’s gaze travelled over his body, and this time, Clark wasn’t pretending to be clumsy, he was flustered and anxious. “Now, usually I prefer to be left alone, but why is it that a Pulitzer winning journalist would prefer to hover over the food table rather than trying to interview me? Am I that uninteresting?”
“I was just— you know about me?”
“Of course, I read all about your piece on ecological alternatives to reduce carbon emissions, been a fan ever since. In fact, I implemented quite a few of your ideas on my companies.”
That was written years ago. Had he been noticed by the Bruce Wayne for that long?
“Thank you, Mr—Bruce. It’s good to know someone like yourself cares about the environment. If you let me, do you have something else to comment on the topic?”
“Well, my parents always taught me to give back to the world that helped us be where we are now. Be it the people or mother nature, and without her, we’re nothing. So, I urge people, but most importantly my most fortunate peers, to research on how we can help heal our world.”
Nothing at all like the clueless man seen on TV.
“And the charity, it’s being held due to your youngest son, right?”
“Yes! Damian is such an animal lover. He brought to my attention that there are not a lot of animal sanctuaries in Gotham and those few don’t have the support they need. So, we’re raising money and awareness to help them rebuild their buildings, to give those precious dogs and cats a proper place to live while they’re waiting to be adopted. And as well, to encourage people to adopt and not to buy. He also volunteers every weekend in one of them. Of course, he couldn’t be here today, as it’s a school night.”
Bruce’s face changed completely when asked about Damian, his eyes shone with pure love and pride, a real smile on his lips, not the kind where it seemed as it physically pained him to smile when talking to others.
“You never answered my question, though.”
“Excuse me?”
“Why didn’t you want to interview me?”
“Oh!” How could one man hold so much power? To look at him with those blueish-grey eyes and turn him into putty? “I didn’t—I mean, I wanted to wait for the right moment. With all those people…”
“Well…” Bruce got close to him, taking a hold of his red tie and pulling him closer. “You got it. Now, why don’t we go somewhere quiet and finish this interview?”
𓆩𓆪
Life had gone back to normalcy —or as normal as it could be for an alien on Earth. But at last, he’d gone back to Metropolis.
He’d all but fucked up his chance to sleep with the most handsome man, though.
They’d gone back to Clark’s hotel room, as it was just two blocks away from the building where the gala was held. He felt as giddy as a teenage boy getting his first kiss, hands sweating and looking into every reflection he could to check he was presentable.
Bruce didn’t wait a second until they closed the door to start kissing him, touching him everywhere. Clark had held his face between his hands, feeling the strong, but soft skin under his fingers, the small nips and cuts that littered his face.
It wasn’t until Bruce had unlatched his belt and had almost pulled Clark’s pants down that he asked him to stop, anxiety pooling in the pit of his stomach and hands cold.
“Is everything alright?”
Clark nodded, looking everywhere but him. “Yeah, yes. I just… I don’t know how I’m feeling with being just a one-night stand.”
Bruce stood quiet, still halfway getting down on his knees and Clark’s zipper on his hands.
“I understand.” He stood up, looking up to meet Clark’s eyes, placing a quick, soft kiss on his lips. “Unfortunately, I can’t assure you this could become a regular thing. I’m sorry.” He fixed his opened shirt before leaving. “I’m… Well, if you ever need an interview, or help with anything, I won’t say no to you.”
And with that, he left.
And now Clark was chiding himself for letting him go.
Hero life had also taken an extremely rare break, with little to no serious attacks, only an attempted robbery here and there.
“In more recent news, Gotham’s billionaire, Bruce Wayne, was held for ransom two nights ago.” The T.V droned out, catching Clark’s attention from the game of Scrabble he was playing with Flash. Like all nights for the past weeks, the night watch at the Watchtower had been long and dull. Don’t get him wrong, he was glad there wasn’t truly a need for them, but they still had to stay the whole night just in case. “When questioned after his rescue, the man had this to say:”
“Oh, this was real? I really thought they were pretty bad strippers.” The image on screen showed a dirty, bloodied Bruce. A lip split open, with messy hair and shirt halfway unbuttoned, his tie loose. “So that’s why they taped me up after ten minutes. I guess it wasn’t a kink thing.” That explained the reddened area around his mouth.
A very tired and embarrassed man in a chauffeur outfit asked to have no more questions, helping Bruce get in the back of a limousine.
Was it simply a game for him to appear so dense in front of the cameras?
In front of him, Flash chuckled. “Can you believe someone like him owns half of a city?”
“He’s not that bad.” Clark said, arranging the letters on his tile rack to see if he could form a word with his remaining letters. “He’s a nice guy.”
A truly nice guy that didn’t pushed Clark when he told him he didn’t want to be used for pleasure.
On the computer behind him, the click-clack of the keyboard stopped momentarily. Taking advantage of the slow, calm nights, Batman had thought it best to update the Watchtower’s security system, bringing along with him Robin, the one you would rarely see without an energy drink. Apparently, the kid was a real prodigy with computers, maybe even more so than Batman.
“Wait, so you know him?” Flash asked, hand halfway through placing a tile on the board.
“I’ve… Met him. Once. He, uh…”
“Oh, Sups, there’s a child present!” Flash chuckled, looking at where Robin was sitting. “Our Sups has a crush! It’s his pretty face, isn’t it? Can’t be his brains.”
Next to the computer, Batman put down his coffee mug with more force than necessary, his super hearing catching on a low, muffled chuckle from Robin.
“I… No.” He sighed, placing I and R on the board to spell ‘Liar’. “It doesn’t matter, does it? Guy’s already being kidnapped every other day; he wouldn’t be able to leave his house for the rest of his life if somehow word spreads that he’s dating Superman.”
Flash nodded, playing the word ‘soul’. He was unusually quiet for the guy who always had something to say, especially if it came to the love lives of everyone in the League. “Cape life’s not easy, is it?”
His sombre demeanour made Clark feel he wasn’t talking specifically about his situation.

Bruce knew, knew chaos was bubbling in his son’s mind, sure to ensure as soon as they got home. Tim had been suspiciously quiet all the way home from the zeta tube location to the Batcave, a leg going up and down repeatedly, and he knew it wasn’t from the energy drinks he so desperately wanted him to give up drinking.
“Don’t say anything.” He grumbled as they entered the cave, the dark tunnel giving way to the lights from the cave.
“Say what about what?” He turned to give him the bat-glare as Dick had once so eloquently named it, but his only response was a meek smile, hand reaching for the door’s handle, waiting for Bruce to unlock it.
He couldn’t really hold him here the rest of his life, could he?
With a sigh, he unlocked the door, and Tim hurried out of the car and up the stairs leading to the manor, not caring about Alfred’s ‘no capes inside the house’ rule. “DICK, YOU WON’T BELIEVE THIS.” Was all he heard before the clock closed.
There goes Bruce’s peace.
Making use of the few remaining moments of tranquillity, he sat on the batcomputer, his cowl removed and hanging behind him.
So, Superman had interacted with him in his civilian identity. Both of them.
Problem is, when? How? Everyone had agreed that they would reveal their identities when they were ready, and Bruce had agreed not to investigate them, as they knew he so easily could. And he’d kept his promise.
Kind of.
He knew it would be a total break of their trust in him, but he also knew this kind of information could be necessary in the, hopefully not probable, case any of them ever went rogue.
Thus, he’d written a code, with Tim’s help, to analyse every bit of information online and compile possible candidates on who was who. Information heavily encrypted and hidden.
Surely this is something he’s allowed to do? It involves him, after all.
Opening the file for Superman, he scrolled past the names of people that were a likely fit for Superman’s physique and related events. There were quite a few, but the stats always showed a probability below sixty percent, besides, those were names he didn’t recognize ever talking to. All except one.
Clark Kent.
His file had a ninety-eight percentage of being Superman.
He was adopted by a couple in Smallville, Kansas, moving to Metropolis… Right around the time Superman was seen for the first time in the city, not to mention there had been strange sightings and unexplainable situations both in Smallville and around him in general before that.
When Bruce inspected more on his adoption, he was met with an unsuccessful result, as there hadn’t been any records of him before the Kents adopted him, as if he didn’t exist for the first few months of his live.
And the adoption agency had only handled one adoption before going ‘bankrupt’ just weeks after opening. His.
God.
He almost slept with Superman.
The man he has been dreaming with ever since he met him.
When the echoes of hurried steps reached his ears, he closed the file, heart beating frantically with this new information, yet he had a stoic face. His oldest son rushing to his side, with Tim behind him. “Superman what?”
“Irrelevant.” Bruce said as he stood up, taking off his gauntlets.
“B, you have to date him, can you imagine how cool it would be to have Superman as your dad?”
“What about Batman being yours?”
“No offense, B.” Tim’s voice reached his ears. “But you’re just a regular guy with enough money to buy this.” He gestured with his thumb to the screen behind him, leaning on the desk of the computer.
“Yeah! And Superman is Superman!”
“Hng.”
“Oh, you know we love you.” Dick said, hugging him and not letting him move, something that made his senses spike when he heard Tim on the computer. “But you’re our favourite after Superman.”
“And Wonder Woman.” Jason’s voice was rarely heard these days in the cave, surprising both Bruce and Dick.
“And Wonder Woman.” Dick nodded, his chin resting on Bruce’s shoulder.
“So why are we dissing Bruce?”
“Superman has a crush on Brucie.” Tim replied, fingers still pressing the keys on the keyboard, Jason’s laugh resonated through the whole cave, only once cutting when they heard a grasp from Tim. “The reporter?”
They all turned to see what he just discovered, Clark’s file on display for them, the picture of him with a cute smile taking a quarter of the screen, the blinking ‘98% MATCH’ going off and on.
Shit.

“KENT!” Perry’s shout shook the building, and years of working for the man had taught him it was a terrible idea to have the man call out for you a second time, rushing to his office and closing the door behind him, standing in front of his desk. “Pack your bags, you’re going to Gotham, again.”
“What for? I can’t, Perry, I’m still working on my investigative piece—”
“You can do it later. You’re going to another Wayne Gala; the man loves to throw his goddamn parties…”
“And why can’t Cat do it?”
“Wayne asked specifically for you. And the man owns the newspaper, so we can’t exactly say no to him.”
He… Had? Had he been thinking of their past encounter? Why would he ask for him specifically?
No, maybe it was because Clark was focused on his job and wrote worth-reading articles, as the official account of the Wayne family had shared his reportage of the past gala on their social media.
Surely, it was simply that.
He was once again waiting for the horde of guests to stop hogging Bruce’s attention before trying to interview him. He didn’t worry, he had promised he would give him an interview if he asked.
But the bewildered and flustered look Bruce gave him when he noticed him didn’t make him feel all that confident.
So today, he was eating a stuffed mushroom, savouring the melted cheese and toppings inside it while he waited.
It seemed this time, Bruce had opted for the company of two of his children, his oldest, Richard Grayson, and his third oldest, Tim Drake.
“You think we should?” Clark heard one of them say, he didn’t need to use his super hearing, as they’d also decided to favour the food over the people, and the kids weren’t talking particularly low.
“B’s getting lonely, and I can only handle so many ‘father-son’ days when Damian’s not around.” The youngest one groaned.
So, Bruce’s sons were playing matchmaker, that was genuinely nice and cute of them.
Except when he sensed them behind him. “Excuse me. Are you Clark Kent?” It was the youngest one who’d approached him, the poor kid had more bags under his eyes than a Christmas tree, his face looking a second away from falling asleep in the middle of the Gala. Just what could be so dire to keep a billionaire kid staying up all night?
It couldn’t be parties, Clark was sure. Unlike their parent, none of the Wayne kids had taken to be the life of parties —excluding, of course, Damian Wayne for the moment—, they rarely were seen in one if it wasn’t hosted by Bruce.
There actually wasn’t much about Timothy Drake online besides what he wanted there to be; son of the deceased Jack and Janet Drake, taken by Bruce, suspected to be Wayne Enterprises next CEO, despite barely being able to drive.
“That’s me, what can I do for you?”
“We want you to interview our dad.” Said Dick Grayson, —or ‘Gotham’s sweetheart’ as most gossip magazines liked to call him— standing behind Timothy. There were more things online about him than his younger brother. From his earlier research for the first gala; Richard Grayson was son of the world renown acrobats John and Mary Grayson, who had, sadly passed away in an ‘accident’ at the circus, taken shortly after by Bruce. The kid was a prodigy in gymnastics, always outshining everyone in every school competition he went to in his youth, although why he never made it a career out of it and go to the Olympics was a mystery to everyone. “You know, you’re the only honest reporter who won’t twist his words.”
The way they both smiled and shared a look was unsettling, the kids knew how to be creepy if they wanted to. There was something in the twinkle of their eyes that only spoke of mischief. Clark might not be a top-notch detective as Batman, but he still had learned to tell when people weren’t being sincere.
He wouldn’t be opposed to the idea, he was here to do that, after all, but he needed to know the reason as to why they were personally asking him to interview him. However, the sound of glass shattering and screams put him on alert. “Oh, great. Not another one.” Timothy mumbled. Were Gothamites plainly this desensitized about criminals taking in hostages?
He was looking for an exit to change into his suit when the cold end of a gun’s barrel was pressed to his back. “To the centre, now!” Clark complied, if only to not risk his identity or risk the chance of the man accidentally shooting one of the kids. Kids that were much calmer than they should be.
He’s never coming back to Gotham.
The trio moved to the centre of the ballroom, where every attendant was huddled in a circle. “Everything of value in the bag!” Another man shout, holding a dirty, ragged brown bag in a hand, and a semi-automatic gun in the other.
Clark tripped, or at least, he made it seem like that, to take the opportunity to slide behind all the hostages, for the outside eye, it seemed he did that to cover himself in case things went awry, but in truth, it was so he could make his disappearance easier and change from Clark Kent to Superman.
There were only four armed men inside, and another outside sitting in a car, the getaway, Clark assumed. He couldn’t see much else with his x-ray vision, just that the car had the trunk open, waiting to be filled with the spoils of the night.
Thing is, they weren’t taking that much stuff to require the extra space, so what could be the actual reason? Kidnapping, maybe?
But who?
“I love playing rough, don’t get me wrong.” Of course it had to be him. “But even I think this is a bit overkill.”
“Shut up.” The man holding Bruce by the scruff said, pushing him to the floor and letting the end of his gun crush his hand. Bruce’s howl of pain mingled with the cry of Timothy, ready to get up and run to help his father, only being stopped by Richard, who held him by his shoulders and sitting him down again, talking in hushed whispers. It was the only reaction the kid had shown so far tonight.
They’d already taken Bruce outside, leaving only the guy who was still collecting money and jewellery, walking backwards towards the exit, gun pointed at the attendants. The split second he turned to leave was his mistake, colliding with a body as strong as steel. Clark had taken that millisecond to change into his suit and get behind the man, swiftly taking his gun and pulverizing it in his hand. “I don’t think you were invited to this party.”
Clark didn’t need to use much strength to knock out the assailant, a simple hit with his index finger was enough.
The rumble of an engine let Clark know the rest of them didn’t bother to wait for their partner, clearly already having secured what they wanted, and the things in the bag were just a bonus.
The getaway car, had, of course, not made it very far before Clark stood in front, crashing into him. The back going up in the air for a second before falling, and he rushed to hold it and gently drop it lest he hurts Bruce even more.
Clark made sure the delinquents were unconscious before opening the car’s trunk. “Are you alright, Mr. Wayne?”
Despite looking a bit green and having a broken finger, he didn’t seem to have any other serious injury… Not recent, at least. All his bones hand been broken in several places, several times, some not fully healed correctly. Just in what kind of situations was this man getting in?
He, in turn, was oblivious to the revelation he’d just had, awestruck, and eyes wide. Bruce accepted the hand Clark had lend him to get off the trunk, careful not to put too much pressure on his broken finger. “Superman.” He whispered. “I… I’m fine. Just a broken finger. I’ve had worse.”
“No doubt.” Clark mumbled. Wayne looked at him curiously, as he hadn’t heard him completely, but shook his head after a second, his dazzling smile back in place.
“How can I pay back the man who saved me?”
“It’s not necessary, Mr. Wayne. I’m glad to be of help. Please, let me take you to a hospital so that you can get treated.”
“No need, I’m sure the ambulance will be here soon.” And true, Clark could hear the siren a couple kilometres away getting closer to them. “Besides, my sons will worry if they don’t see me, but…” he placed is good hand on Clark’s shoulders, standing on his tiptoes to reach him and place a gently, warm kiss on his cheek. “Thank you, superman.”

Batman hates him. There’s no other way to put it.
It’s not hard to make the man broody and angry, Clark thinks, he just never expected it would be because he’s disgusted by his choice in romantic partners.
He’s never said it outright, but he shows it in the way he’s began to distance himself from the man every time they are together in a mission or in a meeting debriefing. If his hands happen to slightly touch his or any other part of his suit, Batman pulls away as if he was burned.
And the man was always cold, talking only if needed, but Clark could see that he was getting even colder with him, his words clipped as if it offended him to talk to him.
He never thought Batman would be homophobic.
He was conflicted. He didn’t want to get into his companions’ personal matters and preferences, but this was something he couldn’t simply ignore, as it was something he considered was wrong of him.
But he also didn’t know how to approach him.
He was distressed. Even though they didn’t know each other names, he had still considered Batman a reliable ally —how ironic—, and to discover the man who claims to fight for justice and peace it’s in truth a hater with prejudices… Well, it was a lot to take in.
But now it made sense. He’d seen Batman work with the Red Hood a few times, and he knew he was a part of the ‘bat-family’ due to the red bat symbol embedded in his chest. He’d also seen how cold Batman was with him unlike the others, like Nightwing, or Robin, or Batgirl.
He also knew Red Hood was involved in some kind of a romantic mess with Arsenal, as Green Arrow once told him in passing.
“I’m surprised Batman hasn’t threatened you already.” Flash mentioned so casually as if he were talking about the weather. “Or has he?”
“What?” Clark turned to see him, his cape slightly billowing. “Why would he do that?”
“Because you slept with his boyfriend?”
Clark had to rewire his brain for a second. “What did you say?”
“Oh, come on!” Flash gestured with his hands, bits of granola flying around from the bar he was eating. “It’s common knowledge those two are dating, how do you think Spooky gets all his toys?”
It would explain why Batman has suddenly turned so hostile against him.
But it doesn’t explain why he’s also cold and hostile with the other guy who’s also dating a man. And he didn’t want to believe sweet Bruce would cheat like that. At least, he didn’t seem the type the other night.
But then why Bruce would still flirt so carelessly if he was dating him? Could it be to throw off all those rumours about them? Because it would explain why he’s getting kidnapped so frequently.
But even behind closed doors, he still wanted to sleep with him.
This is all a mess.
He’s a mess.
He should go to the one person that could have the answers.
Even though he’d decided to never come back to this city if he could help it, he still found himself taking a bus towards Gotham city. It would be way easier to get there flying than having to spend an hour and a half in an uncomfortable bus seat, but if he wanted to do this, he would need to be laying low as much as possible to avoid detection from the bat.
It didn’t take long to find the man he was looking for, he simply had to keep an open ear for any kind of gunshots he could hear, as he knew the vigilante wasn’t opposed to using guns. Clark was concerned about the number of gunshots he heard in one night in different parts of the city.
“Red Hood.” Clark said before the man could get on his bike and drive away.
“Boy scout.” The robotic voice from the helmet’s modulator reached him. He leaned on his bike, his arms crossed. “What brings the man of tomorrow to our lovely, green city?”
He ignored the sarcasm, walking closer to him. “We need to talk.”
“About…?”
“I know about you and Arsenal.”
It was hard to gauge a reaction out of him with the helmet on. The man kept quiet for several seconds.
“And that concerns you, because…?”
“I… First, I want to say that it’s alright. And if you ever feel that you’re not safe, you can always count on me if you need help.” Clark was able to hear the small ‘what the fuck’ coming out of the helmet. “I don’t know what the extent of your relationship with Batman is, if he’s your father or just a mentor, but whatever it is, you shouldn’t have to be shunned for being yourself.”
“Look, man, I appreciate the feelings and whatever. But I must know, what the fuck you’re talking ‘bout?”
“I… I thought Batman was mistreating you because you’re dating a man?”
“What?” The robotic voice was high pitched, a low chuckle coming out. “You think B’s homophobic?”
“He’s not?”
“Of course not. Hell, me dating Arsenal is probably the only thing he’s approved of me ever since I came back.”
Clark wasn’t sure what he meant for ‘came back’, but it wasn’t something of importance right now.
“But then… Oh, so the rumours are true?” He couldn’t help but feel even more disappointed, because that also meant that Bruce had tried to sleep with him even though he’s dating someone else, and he’s also gotten on the bad side of Batman. His voice had gotten small at the end, clearing his throat to hide that fact.
“What rumours?”
“Batman’s dating Bruce Wayne.”
This time, Hood’s boisterous laughter was heard through the whole alley, having to place his hands on his knees for support.
“You’re on your own, boy scout.”
𓆩𓆪
Several weeks had gone by since the gala fiasco, and Bruce had already been kidnapped twice, his lucky star —or as lucky as it could be—, had helped him leave unscathed just a couple hours later.
Of course, Clark would only find out about this when the news would report it in the evening news, as he hadn’t been in Gotham again since the night he met with Red Hood.
“Batman.” Clark greeted him when he saw the man walking into the Observation Deck. Tonight, they were both going to be alone for the night watch.
He hadn’t seen the vigilante in a while, as the man was ever busy with all the criminals running rampant in Gotham since they escaped the asylum a couple of weeks ago. He and Wonder Woman had offered help, of course, but being the stubborn bat that he was, he never accepted, despising the presence of other supers in his city.
Which was the topic he wanted to talk about.
“Superman.”
“I’m sure you’ve heard of me being in Gotham a month ago. I know you don’t like it when we step foot in your city, but I… I was visiting some friends, and happened to hear the screaming, I couldn’t just sit by and do nothing. I hope you understand.”
The man had continued walking to the computer, ready for a night of sitting down in front of the screen until sunrise, waiting for an attack to happen, and not once acknowledged the kryptonian, besides the slight twitch on his fingers, not visible for the human sight, but enough for him.
“Don’t let it happen again.”
With a sigh, Clark sat on the air with his legs crossed, hovering a meter over the floor, looking at the Earth through the windows surrounding the deck.
An hour had turned into two, then into three, all spent in complete silence.
“I apologize for my comment the other day.” Clark settled on talking about the elephant in the room rather than continue like this. “I didn’t know you two were…”
“What are you talking about?”
He was going to make him say it, didn’t he?
“You, and Bruce. I didn’t know you two were a thing. And you don’t have to worry about me, I won’t get in the way of you two.”
“We’re not… You’re wrong.”
“Am I?” Clark stood, walking towards the bat, his voice louder than it should. “Because then I don’t know why you’ve been acting so cold towards me, even more than usual. If you hate me because I kissed the man you’re dating or if you hate me because you’re a bigoted idiot, then please, let me know and stop with these childish attitudes.”
He waited one, two, three seconds and the man had barely even tried to face him, although he’d stopped tipping in the computer, but he didn’t say anything. “Figures.” Clark scoffed, turning around and ready to leave the deck to stay the night in any other part of the watchtower.
“Clark.” It wasn’t just that Batman talked that made him stop, but the fact that he used his civilian name.
And when he turned, he certainly wasn’t expecting to see the man without his cowl.
“Bruce?”
“I don’t hate you.” The man who spoke wasn’t Batman, nor it was Brucie. It was simply… Bruce, the real man that probably few people got to meet, probably just his family. “Quite the opposite.”
Taking long strides, Bat—Bruce walked until he was so close to him, they could almost melt into each other, placing his hands on his cheeks. He didn’t need to stand on his tiptoes this time, as the suit added him quite a few centimeters more. “Totally the opposite.”
And then, he kissed him.

Hey do you know where the idea of Jason loving Wonder Woman comes from? I see it all the time in fandom circles but never in canon
So I’d say it’s mostly fanon BUT it’s a reference to a moment in canon and the characterization feels very true to his character given his dynamic with Artemis.
The canon source to my understanding is actually from a Superman comic, it’s the Superman Annual #11 “FOR THE MAN WHO HAS EVERYTHING”. It's Superman's birthday and Batman, Robin and Wonder Woman head to the Fortress of Solitude to celebrate. When Batman and Robin arrive Wonder Woman is already there waiting and when she tells them to go inside before they get too cold Jason is like ‘she’s really saying that to us dressed like that?’. Cause let’s be real her OG suit is basically a one piece bathing suit with boots and accessories and Batman basically tells Jason to stop being horny and Jason looks SO pearl-clutchingly SHOCKED before settling into hurt.
Like Bruce walks away like he hit him with a good burn but Jason face is like how could you even say that to me.
Throughout the story Jason and WW react the same way together to a things happening and it’s very cute.
Plus we just know Jason would love the energy she’s bring to fights tbh. Like look at how fucking sick Diana in this one:
This comic is super well known with any SuperBat shippers cause it has this Bruce moment:
What have I been doing?? Just hiring a bunch of horticulturalists to create a new breed of rose for my *best friend*~ just bro things, amirite?

Hey fickle! Do you think you would be interested in doing 11 and 24 for superbat? If not that okay, hope you’re have a good day!-bookanon💚
On a rare peaceful night in, Bruce and Clark were sat on the couch together, Bruce on one end and Clark in the middle. (Bruce's ear was still stinging from where Clark had flicked it earlier, after Bruce asked if he would be faking a yawn so he could wrap his arm around his shoulders.) On screen a couple were laying in bed together, when all of a sudden the guy rolled on top of his girlfriend and began tickling her, causing her to burst into sweet laughter. Clark positively lit up as an idea stuck him.
"Hey B?"
"Hmm?"
“Can I tickle you?”
Bruce slowly turned his head, meeting Clark's hopeful smile with a frown.
" …"
"I'll take your silence as a yes."
Bruce wasn't given a chance to react. One second he was sitting on the couch with his "loving" boyfriend, and the next he was flat on his back and being crushed to death by over 200 pounds of solid muscle. "Clark!" Bruce grunted, trying to dodge Clark's attempts at grabbing a hold of his wrists.
"The fact that you're struggling this hard tells me you must be really ticklish." Clark taunted, lighting up with glee when he saw a dusting of pink appear high on Bruce's cheeks.
"That. Is. Classified Information." Bruce protested. "Shit." Clark laughed triumphantly when he got a hold of Bruce left wrist, stretching it above his head and securing it to the couch cushions with an iron grip.
"Any last words, tough guy?"
Bruce tried one last Hail Mary and used his free hand to sucker-punch Clark in the stomach. "Motherfucker." He immediately regretted his rash decision, knuckles stinging where they managed to connect just as Clark sucked his stomach in to avoid him breaking anything.
"Oh, you're going to pay for that." The smile on Clark's face was truly the stuff of nightmares.
"Can't we talk about this?" Bruce asked, unsurprised when his right arm was also pulled above his head and secured in Clark's grip.
"Sure." Clark walked his free hand down Bruce's right arm, feeling the muscles jumping beneath his skin as he slowly made his way past his armpit and down to his ribs. "You talk." He noted every spot that caused Bruce's heartrate to spike, though his expression remained unchanged. "I'll tickle."
"Clark, this is ridiculous," Bruce said, but the corners of his mouth betrayed a hint of amusement.
"Time to find out just how ticklish the Playboy Prince of Gotham really is."
Bruce couldn't even protest at the stupid nickname Clark saw in one newspaper and refused to let go of.
"Oh fuck." Bruce breathed, yanking uselessly at his arms as Clark's fingers began their dance across his stomach. It was just dumb luck that he started with Bruce's worst spot, but laughter was pouring out of him in no time.
"Bruuuuce," Clark said it in that sing-song voice that usually irritated Bruce, but he was too busy trying to burrow backward into the couch cushions to even notice. "You're supposed to be talking remember?" a quick squeeze to Bruce's side caused him to jolt and level his gaze on Clark. "I'm holding up my end of the agreement."
"You---Are--A--SOnOfABitch." Bruce broke down into deep belly laughter when Clark slipped his hand beneath his shirt and started scratching blunt nails over his bare skin.
"That's not a very nice thing to say." Clark admonished, dipping a finger into Bruce's belly button. He let out a delighted laugh when Bruce threw his head back and cackled. There really was no better word for it.
"I'm--fuck--I'm sorry." Bruce gasped out, cheeks bright red when Clark finally took pity on him and stopped vibrating his finger into his bellybutton at a slightly inhuman speed.
"Hmmm." Clark idly tapped his fingers on Bruce's ribcage as he pretended to mull something over. "No, I think you're going to have to do better than that." He then released Bruce's arms and buried his wiggling fingers into Bruce's armpits, unbothered by the arms that came flying down to try to force him out.
"I--AmGoingTo--hahaha-fucking--KihihihihihiKILLYOU!" Bruce shouted, doing his best to curl into a ball while Clark was sitting on his thighs and pinning him in place.
"The more you threaten me, the more I'm going to tickle you." Clark warned him as he easily slipped his hands out of his armpits. Bruce had 2 seconds to calm down before Clark was using one hand to squeeze at his side, while the other once more slipped beneath his shirt to gently scratch at bare skin.
"Cl-Cl-hahaha-Clark! You fu-hahaha-fucking asshole!" Bruce's knuckles were white with how tight he was clinging to Clark's wrists, but his hands might as well be pinned above his head again for all the good it was doing him.
"Oh?" Clark asked, dipping into Bruce's belly button warningly. Bruce squealed, face flushing bright red the second the sound left his mouth, and Clark took pity on him and allowed him to pull his hand out from beneath his shirt. "It's like you want me to keep tickling you."
"Shut up Clark." Bruce growled, the red flush in his cheeks racing down his neck and disappearing into the collar of his shirt.
"Wait," Clark's smile softened at the embarrassed look Bruce was now sporting. "Do you want me to tickle you?"
Bruce couldn't help the embarrassed little whimper that slipped out, shifting nervously beneath Clark's bulk. "I don't...not want you to." He mumbled looking anywhere but at Clark.
"Really?" Clark looked like Christmas, his birthday, and every holiday in between had just come early.
"If you tell anyone about this.." Gone was the embarrassed boyfriend of 5 seconds ago. That look and voice were all Batman.
"Yeah, yeah." Clark huffed, rolling his eyes fondly. "Your stash of kryptonite. My ass. Honestly, you need new threats."
Bruce looked like he was revving up for what was sure to be a chilling new way in which he could murder Clark so, naturally, Clark chose that moment to see if Bruce's neck was as ticklish as his entire torso seemed to be. Newsflash: it was worse.

Weekly Fic Recs 59
This week's rec list! A note for next week, there won't be a rec list because I will be traveling during that time. But expect a list the following week, along with a meat rec :)
Networking by oldmannapping - Timber and batfam, complete. Bernard attends a gala with Tim where he meets other (vigilante) friends of the batfam. Shenanigans ensue.
Everybody Wants You by TheResurrectionist - Superbat, complete. A reread for me! Bruce Wayne is in People's Magazine for being the sexiest man alive and does a bit of a risqué photo shoot for them. A copy makes it into the Watchtower. Dick takes psychic damage. The hot water bill goes down. Bruce's armor keeps disappearing. Shenanigans all around :)
In for a Penny by Cdelphiki - Batfam, complete. An AU where Bruce gets Damian as a baby :) This fic is part of an ongoing series called In For a Pound! I am also in the middle of reading the second fic of this series, Precedent, where Bruce takes in Jason!
tacere by mediant - Clark Kent centric, complete. There has been some recent discussion about Clark, the Supers, and purring, and that got me in the mood for some alien biology/Kryptonians purring fic. This one is my favorite, hitting all the feels :)
La clarté dans la confusion by thebatandtherobe - Superbat, Bruceman, wip. More of whatever love polygon these guys have going on here. The boys go out on a date (kinda?) to an art exhibit. A fun time is had by all.
Foreign Languages by FabulaRasa - DinahOllie (I have no idea what their ship name is), Superbat, and JayDick, complete. Another reread for me. Januariat's lovely art of this fic was going around on Tumblr again, and I count help myself but read it again. Dinah becomes Bruce's therapist. It's as complicated as you think.
Patchwork Pod by Ktkat9 - Supebat and Batfam, wip. More of the mer Bruce fic! And it hit 100 chapters!!! :D :D :D
stratagem by pomeloquat - Superbat, complete. A 5+1 fic where Bruce keeps coming up with the most off the wall reasons to have sex with Clark (because science/research/contingency plans, etc). Very silly, very sexy, very good :)
sunset by TheResurrectionist - Pennywaynes, Alfred & Bruce, complete. Part of the omegaverse series a room full of coral. Alfred is called in by GCPD to pick up Bruce. A sad time is had by all :(
Enjoy!

Sneak peek clip into my (late) submission for Superbat Week 2024 Day 1!
Superbat Day 1: Identity Shenigans
Costume Swap
Identity reveal
First Meeting
"Contacts, Clark.” Lois tapped him sharply on the head. Clark made sure to carefully wince. “You’re not going to get anywhere in Gotham without contacts.”
“I like my glasses.” Clark says, settling them in place. “Ma says they make me look smart and charming.” Lois snorts at this, not even looking up from her notebook. “Besides, I hate the idea of touching my eye. It’s just unnatural.”
“You mean you’re scared to.”
“I’m not scared.”
“You’re a six foot scaredy cat with terrible posture and the worse case of anxious tummy I have ever encountered. You run to the bathroom every time anything borderline interesting happens, don't think I haven’t noticed.”
“My stomach issues are none of your business, lois.”
“They are when your lack of a backbone is what’s keeping my protege from getting any decent scoops.” Lois pulls a pen out of a half empty coffee mug and chugs the cold dregs. “I refuse to be guilty by association, Clark.” She gestures violently with the sticky pen. “You’re lucky Perry has let you sit on this Gotham story for so long. If you don't make some real connections and show him something, he's going to take you off it.”
Clark starts so hard his desk shakes. “He can't take me off it!”
Lois looks at him sympathetically. “He can't afford to keep you on it if you don't have anything printable.”
“I'm close!”
“Are you?”
“This isn't just some fluff piece, Lois. People are disappearing! Perry can't just take me off it.”
Lois grabs her giant tote and bustles about throwing her notes and recorders into it.
“Smallville,” she says, “You’re not in Kansas anymore. You're never going to find good leads unless you meet bad people. Skulk around a bit. Snoop. Get a bit sleazy. Go and mingle with the scummy people and you’ll find some dirt.”
“Nobody is scummy, Lois. People sometimes don't get the best chances in life. That doesn’t mean they’re dirty.”
“Then go mingle with your diamond’s in the rough! I don’t care what you call them. Just do it.” She snatches her phone and makes for the elevator. “I’ve got a meeting with a lead in an hour. If I’m not back in two days, call the police. Or better yet, call Superman. And Clark?”
She playfully flicks down the crooked collar on his baggy shirt.
“Wear something a little sexy,” she says. “To get contacts, sometimes you’ve got to get a bit touchy feely.”

I NEED IDEAS FOR A JUSTICE LEAGUE HIGH SCHOOL AU!!!
Okay just imagine Bruce, Clark, Diana, Ollie, Hal, Barry, Dinah, Shiera, Carter, the Johns, Ray, Kyle, Guy—ALL OF THEM in the same high school, each of them just starting off as a hero. Except. The others don't know.
I'd imagine Bruce as the one guy everyone thinks is an emo kid (in canon he only became *Brucie* after coming back from Batman training). He doesn't talk to anyone except for these two smart kids Harvey Dent and Harleen Qunizel. But this one popular cheerleader (who's secretly a kleptomaniac), Selina, keeps trying to ask him out. Bruce, on the other hand? He's obsessed with becoming Batman, spends his time trying to find the location of LoA so he can convince them to train him.
Clark. Beloved boy, plays basketball, lacrosse, soccer, football, is on the student committee, helps out his Ma and Pa. And in his free time, he stares at Bruce Wayne. His best friend, Diana, calls him out on it many times, a teasing smile on her face. And Clark absolutely *hates* that bald rich boy who acts like he's better than everyone—Lex.
Diana, she's recently been sent to Man's World to learn their traditions, expand her horizons and shit. Kinda like Diana from dc super hero girls. She plays all the sports Clark does, the main reason they ended up as friends. There's this one popular girl—Selina's friend—who ticks her off, for some reason she can't figure out. Barbara Minerva. But Diana's friends, Shiera and Dinah, stop her from acting on it. The three have confided in each other—they know Diana is an Amazon, know Shiera and Carter are Hawkman—but Dinah doesn't know she has powers, yet. She only knows that powers run in her family.
Dinah, meanwhile, is on-and-off dating the playboy rich kid, Oliver fucking Queen. He's... stereotypical, at times. He buys her roses and shows up to every one of her choir concerts, buys her Starbucks every morning... then on weekends, he brings her to his private shooting range, shows her his "mad archery skills". At this point, Ollie is debating whether or not to become Green Arrow. Dinah, she's currently a singer. She's in the choir, she's going to do a solo at her school's talent show. Little do they know, *that's* when her powers will show up. While she's screaming into a fucking mic.
Barry Allen. Has a crush on this girl, Iris. Like, he's down BAD. Iris and her friend Lois Lane, they both run the school paper, so Barry decides to do something they'll want to cover. He starts working on something he hopes will get their attention, but it blows up, Barry is hospitalized... and wakes up with powers.
John Stewart and Guy Gardener are upperclassmen, both seniors, so close to graduating when they find out a freshman (Kyle) and sophomore (Hal) have been given the rings. Of course, they don't have a choice but to mentor them, and, yk, make sure they don't die. John tries his best to be a good mentor, pointing out mistakes and making time for Hal and Kyle, while Guy is a little shit as always. Oh yeah, Guy and John r both also studying for their SATs while being green lanterns.
Carter and Shiera? Power couple. Been together since freshman year, will always *be* together. Plus, being Hawkman and Hawkgirl is prime bonding time. They're literally destined to always be together.
John Jones. Everyone always thinks there's something... *different* about him. When John notices that *Clark* isn't like these humans either, he approaches him, helps him realize he's Kryptonian. The two randomly becoming friends makes Bruce suspicious... and that's how Batman figures out that they're not humans. (Side note, when Bruce starts asking Clark tons of questions out of no where, instead of being suspicious, he reads it as a love language)
(...is it too obvious that I'm a SuperBat shipper)
ANYWAY yeah that's all I have for now. Just vague ideas of dynamics and stuff, with no actual storyline... but if you guys have any more ideas or things you'd like to see, PLEASE let me know! I rlly rlly rlly wanna read this and write this fic but I don't know what to writeee 😭

Pt.1 link above
Superbat with some Batfam hurt/comfort - fic idea
It gets worse before it gets better. I'm sorry.
There will be part 3
Pt.2
It took them longer then it should to realise they fucked up.
Maybe it was one too many close calls, one too many bruises or broken bones. But they finally saw it. This silent pain buried deep in the heart of one they called Father.
Truth was, Bruce wasn't getting any younger. Of course, he still had some years before the idea of retirement even started to look appealing, but he was not getting any younger.
Pretty much all kids grown up by now, Damian was the only one full-time kid at the manor. Each of them had their own lives to live, their partners, hell, even kids.
Manor started to feel painfully empty, loneliness Bruce hadn't felt in years started to come back. Just like so many years ago when his parents died. Empty corridors and empty rooms that looked lived in but no one wrapped in those blankets at night, no one stole snacks from kitchen just after midnight and no one to talk to during breakfast on a week day.
Of course, they saw each other and talked, but it wasn't the same anymore. Patrols were patrols, and missions were missions. Nothing compared to movie nights and cuddle piles when someone was sick.
It's no surprise that Bruce turned away from Clark when his time with kids was already heavily limited and started to decline further.
He cherished each dinner they had at weekends, and he couldn't let this go. What was one more sacrifice in sea of his past mistakes and sacrifices to keep his family in one piece?
But kids saw it finally. How harmless joke, soft teasing turned to poison that was injected directly in Bruce's heart. He needed someone by his side. He spent too many years surviving and carrying burdens of the city and world on his shoulders. He deserved someone he could count on. Not like parent and child but like partners.
And who was better for that than Superman himself?
Soon, kids started planning.
Dick, being a member of JL, saw personally that despite months from breakup, Clark and Bruce were just as gone for eachother like half year earlier. He tried to talk with Clark, but man just refused to even start this topic with Bruce. "I respect his decision. He already hurts from this, and until he says so, we are, and will be, just friends."
Jason tried a more direct approach. Not straight up talking about this like an adult should, Wayne's were after all the most stubborn and emotionally dysfunctional people on the planed after all, but tried to talk nonetheless. "You could stop being this grumpy old prick and find some hobby that doesn't include brooding and running around punching people in the faces. Find someone to talk with for fucks sake." No suprise it didn't really work. Talking to someone was taken as a message to increase the amount of his therapy meeting. (And here Bruce thought he was doing good in eyes of his kids...)
Tim turned to his advanced technological and planning skills. The number of setups he prepared where Bruce and Clark ended in one room without chance to leave for hours was worse than all romantic comedies created. Not to mention changing their schedules so they spend more time together in watchtower. Tim unfortunately got nothing from it besides massive headache, few sleepless nights, and second-hand embarrassment in concerning amounts.
Girls decided to team up in their attempt to mend broken hearts. They tried every single piece of advice they found in media and books. Sweets send from kne to another, flowers with secret meaning, they even tried to create some kind of love potion though website clearly knew nothing about magic. After the third attempt to add some rose petals to ink chanting questionable things in Latin, they settled for being Tim's support in imprisoning lovebirds together.
Only when Damian was half way in to threatening Clark with a knife made of kryptonite Bruce had enough.
______________
Working slowly on part 3.
Correct me if there are any mistakes. I don't have beta reader and I'm tired as hell.
Also, sorry if the girls' part turned out to be a bit forced. I had no idea what to do with them since they seem to be somehow the most sane ones.
