Chapter 6: Serendipidy
Bewitched Masterlist
Summary: They meet after 7 years. But they swear that everything is Serendipidy
Words: 2.1k
Warning: Constantly changes of POV's
N/A: I'm trying to find ways to get through the end of Arcane. Expect continuous updates.đ
Serendipidy: the faculty or phenomenon of finding valuable or agreeable things not sought for.
Since Violet left Stillwater there has been a strange feeling in her chest. A feeling she can't put a name to.
She walks beside the enforcer, Caitlyn, for a while before she starts running and jumping across the rooftops of the place where she grew up. It's at that moment that she feels that tug in her chest again, and that's when it hits her. She's excited, but at the same time she feels terribly desolate and anxious. She feels sad and melancholy.
She passes by streets she used to frequent and realizes how much things have changed. Stalls that used to be there in her childhood are now closed or new stores take their place. She feels like she doesn't recognize anything even though she knows where she is.
She feels like a stranger in her own home.
đŚ
The day Vi returned to the Lanes you can sense that something is going on. But you don't know what.
It's like a tingling in the back of your neck, a dull sound throbbing in your ears. But you don't think much of it, you have better things to worry about than this.
So you keep busy, as usual. You stop by the kitchen as you do every morning to help make breakfast for everyone, you stand there for a while and chat with people as they arrive, and when you see Ekko arrive with Scar you join them to sit down for breakfast at one of the tables while they coordinate for the day's activities.
"I'm going to make rounds today to oversee how everything is going after the raid on the ship last week" Ekko commented as he ate, looking at the two of you one at a time. He paused for a moment at you, noticing that you seemed distracted, you hadn't touched your food much, that tingle still nagging at the back of your neck, making your stomach churn "You come with me?"
You shake your head sideways, not turning to look at him, you didn't dare "Nope, I have things to check and reorganize in the warehouse. My next monitoring season out of the tree is coming up, so I have to know how much I have to earn and bring when I get back" you decide to take a bite of your food after a moment, you're not very hungry, but you won't waste that food "Besides, I promised Elma I'd help her with the new portraits on the mural".
After a while the three of you say goodbye and part ways, each going to their respective places.
But as you make your way to the mural you realize something. You almost didn't see it, almost stepped on it, in fact. But that tingle made you look at just the right moment. A four-leaf clover.
You stared at it for a few seconds, remembering when you used to look for them with Powder, a healthy competition between sisters. You almost always found them, but you always gave them to Powder "So Mylo can't tell you that you're unlucky" you used to tell her. That's why Vi sometimes teased you by call you that you were her good luck charm. But you didn't get too carried away with that memory, so you shook your head and kept walking.
đŚ
After a few laps around undercity and stopping to eat and get information at Jericho's she headed with the grumpy enforcer to the brothel. There Babette filled her in on the current situation on the Lanes and offered her information on where she could find Sevika.
Vi thanked and hesitated for a moment, wrung her hands against each other nervously. She didn't need to ask, Babette was going to tell her anyway.
"She's fine," Babette tells her in a soft tone, fearing that if she spoke too loudly it might make Vi snap.
"What?" Babette responded with your name softly, watching as the girl in front of her took a shaky breath before daring to ask more. "Do you know anything about her, do you know where I can find her?" The woman could only shake her head.
"She stops here from time to time to drop off some things for me to defend the girls and the business. She told me she's coming next week. I don't know where she lives, but I know you're not going to find her on the streets of Zaun" And though Babette was tempted to tell her that there were a few years you worked for her, she knew that was not for her to tell her. That was your decision.
Violet, now more hopeful than before, thanks Babette and gets up from the couch to walk to the person who will lead her to the person who should provide her with the information she needs.
Out of the corner of her eye she sees some lucky dimes. And only then she decide to believe that it will bring her luck. Because remember that for you this kind of thing has always been important.
Maybe it will help her get to you.
đŚ
That tingling keeps going throughout the morning and early afternoon. You scratch a couple of times and start to think you might get sick.
You hope you're wrong.
Although you have to admit that painting helps. It makes your head go quiet for a while. It also helps with that incessant tingling and anxious feeling.
Ekko stops by to say goodbye before leaving the lair. You wish him luck and give him a hug, and before he can take two steps towards the exit you stop him, remembering the clover you saw that morning. You run over to the spot and grab it from the floor before returning to your brother, tucking it into his jacket pocket.
"I know you don't need it, but it never hurts" Ekko shakes his head, a smile on his lips as he says goodbye to you again, this time for real.
Something tells you it's going to be an interesting afternoon.
đŚ
At that moment, as she bleeds out, Violet sees you again in her hallucinations. She sees you playing with her sister and wandering around what was once her home.
She still remembers the time she brought you here. She remembers telling you about what her life was like then as she held your hand tightly, keeping from crying and how you held her and hugged her when she eventually broke down. She remembers your warmth and the gentleness and softness with which you held her.
God, she wishes you were there to hold her hand at that moment. She misses you so much
đŚ
Ekko expected almost anything after spending 7 years on this.
Nothing could have prepared him for meeting a friend he thought was dead. The same one who found herself with an executioner and Jinx.
Nothing good could be happening, but he decided to give her a chance. He owed it to her and to himself.
But most of all to his sister.
So he puts bags over Vi and the enforcer's heads and leads them to the firelights' lair. He is grateful that you are not in sight, imagine you're still checking things out in the hold.
His companions take them to a secluded room while he takes a moment to breathe. He wants to tell you so badly... But he doesn't want to get your hopes up if Vi has decided on a different side. So he keeps silent. Soon one of his companions lets him know that they've both woken up, so he gives the go-ahead. He takes a big breath of air and lets it out slowly, just as you have taught him since he was a child. He puts his mask back on as he hears footsteps approaching.
On your side things weren't much better. Since a few minutes ago that tingling had become more intense, it had been there for so long that it was almost starting to overstimulate you.
You tried to breathe as you normally did, but nothing seemed to want to calm that sensation. Something was happening, or so your body wanted you to believe. You hate anxiety with all your heart.
So you resort to what has served you best all these years. Busyness. You go through and count supply by supply, item by item and put them on lists. You give instructions and ask question after question. You rearrange and rearrange, you do everything you can so that eventually your anxiety will subside and leave you alone. But your frustration only gets bigger and bigger when you realize it's still there, haunting you.
Meanwhile Ekko was talking to Vi, who after having ironed out the kinks and doled out some affection had worked up enough courage to ask about you.
"I knew you'd ask that" he replies looking at her with a smirk. So he opens the door and waits for her to adjust to the light. He tells her a bit about how you both found this place. Though of course he leaves out a few things (only because he knows it's up to you whether you want her to know or not). He shows her a few things as they walk, keeping up a light conversation as they go along.
And Violet can't pretend she's not anxious. Her hands clasp against each other every so often. Her smile trembles a little and her eyes move to everything and nothing. A warm feeling stirring in her chest.
And the butterflies. The ones she thought were already dead because they hadn't fluttered for so long, start fluttering all over her system, making her feel like she's 15 again. Reminding her of all the times she went looking for you at Benzo's to confess how she's loved you from the start, only to take a step back. Every time.
But not this time.
Finally Ekko stops in front of a thick metal door. He lets out a sigh before looking at it. "It may be a bit difficult. I ask you to be patient."
Vi nods slowly, feeling even more nervous. Ekko reaches into his pocket and pulls out the clover you gave him that morning, handing it to Vi. "A little luck never hurts, don't you think?"
Vi doesn't need to ask. She knows you found it, you've always had a knack for that. Then, slowly but surely, Ekko opens the metal door, lets the girl in, then goes in himself and closes it.
He greets a couple of people and gestures for them to come out. Violet's eyes move from side to side, looking for you.
You, on the other hand, don't hear the door open, too busy organizing. You move from side to side, unable to stand still. What you do feel is that the tingling suddenly runs through your whole body before it stops. You crouch for a moment between the boxes, feeling relief for the first time that day.
Ekko pulls out a last couple of people while Vi stands paralyzed, only one person is left at the end of the room, among some boxes and stacked objects. She almost doesn't notice you there, crouching down, massaging your neck. She only catches a glimpse of your hair, as messy as she remembers it. But maybe a little longer.
"Everything okay over there Sunny?" Vi can feel the air attacking in her throat as she hears the sound of your tired laughter.
"Kinda tired, but I'm better" you reply in a tired voice as you stand up and stretch your body. Vi can feel her heart racing as her eyes begin to sting.
A sob threatens to come from her throat, but Violet forces herself to keep her mouth shut. Her hands clench into fists as she watches you turn toward them.
"Remember that discomfort I told you I had in the morning? A while ago it stopped and-" you quickly shut your mouth when you see a pink-haired girl crying in front of you. Your heart races as you see the strong resemblance, but you don't allow yourself to hope. "Ekko... What's-?"
Vi makes a crooked smile "Hey Sunshine" she manages to whisper with a broken voice.
Your eyes start to sting. No one here calls you like that. Everyone knows you by your first name or as Sunny (this last one is only with Ekko and some friends). You never let anyone else call you Sunshine. You couldn't stand it. So when you heard it...
"Violet?"
Your suspicions come true.
Vi lets out a small laugh combined with a sob, nodding as she walks towards you.
You bring your hands to your mouth as a loud sob escapes your lips, shaking your head. "No... You're not... You can't..."
Vi quickly finishes reaching up to you and holds you against her. A firm but delicate grip. You too wrap your arms around her clinging to her jacket. The crying from both of you getting louder.
"I missed you so much" Vi manages to utter between sobs. You, on the other hand, feel unable to speak, so you just nod into the hollow of her neck.
Time seems to stand still when you both finally hold each other in your arms.
Four-leaf clovers, lucky dimes and cosmic coincidences.
But they swear it's a coincidence.
The best coincidence of their lives. Finding each other again.

posting on here is like my sisyphean boulder i'm constantly rolling tbh
#god i am trying so hard to just have fun and be myself#but when i do that i'm immediately a strange outsider creep#and since i can't really mask my version of masking is just not talking and then obviously you donât find any joy in fandom spaces either#i will always be a shitty unlikable freak no matter how much i pretend otherwise. it was obvious from the start that getting involved in#fandom spaces was a fucking mistake. it's always a mistake because you're some laughing stock at best and a horrifying freak at worst#i don't blame people for not liking me i've realised what an awful person i am long ago#but it's always so hard witnessing something like fun social groups from the sidelines knowing you'll never be a part of it#this is why my mental state has been deteriorating so severely in the last few months. that Realisation once again nothing fucking changed#i know it's stupid to get so upset over fandom but it's only a pattern for me#i stopped trying to be friends with people when i was a teenager because it hasn't worked a single time#this attempt at integrating myself into the wotr and bg3 fandom by sharing my shit was just one mistake#gortash/zeke is so different from anybody elseâs work and i wish i could find joy in something that it isnât fucking deranged but i canât#like yes itâs just fandom bullshit! gortash/zeke is a fucking oc x canon ship! why am i getting so upset over it!#i love writing them. iâve never been this happy writing anything. and itâs entirely indicative of a common pattern in my life#when i earnestly share parts of myself/things iâm passionate about people get creeped out. and honestly? rightfully so#i would leave the discord servers iâm in because itâs fucking crushing me dude. this is so petty but iâm so jealous of what you people have#but in one i am server owner and i donât want to just dump that responsibility onto someone else and then dip#and in the other two iâm not sure anyone would even notice that iâm gone but i still worry about being rude#though iâm not entirely sure i didnât get invited to one of those just so people could laugh at me. idk probably just being paranoid but i#itâs been gnawing at me#ok no if iâm being this vulnerable on tunglr.com i can also say that part of me staying is also still having the hope that i could fit in#one day. logically i know it wonât happen but itâs nice to have hope sometimes#watching you all from through the window having fun like a creep#so yeah. iâve always felt like this but itâs been rapidly getting worse with my failed attempt at the bg3 fandom#idk just been crying non-stop for the last few hours. went through an entire pack of tissues in an hour itâs very disgusting#theyâre all lying around me as iâm typing this like a pillowfort of snot lmao#so yeah. idk. if someone could come over and lobotomise me thatâd be nice. orin where are you when we need you most#i never had any friends irl so i foolishly gave this a shot. iâm sorry#also doesnât help that i can see someone dropping me for people that are easier to be around in irl rn#it just hurts because itâs always like that. someone you are around when you have no other option at best. not even that sometimes

If you could go back, would you change what happened?
This is something that you often ask yourself.Â
You think about that fateful day frequently. It was the summer before your first year at Merlin Academy. You had finally convinced your parents, the famed mermaid Ariel and her Prince Eric, to let you go for a swim unsupervised. Being half-mermaid, half-human allowed you to transform back and forth at will. And although life on land was pretty good, your heart always ached to go back to the sea, to feel the cold, salty water as it engulfs you. To race along the reefs, tail swishing back and forth, allowing you to reach speeds far past what your human form can do. To leisurely swim amongst the many species of fish and plants that created the world of the ocean. To go back home.
Your parents had already gone over the rules with you hundreds of time, to the point where you could recite each one of them word for word: âDonât go past the boundaries,â âDonât approach any animals you donât know,â âDonât go so deep where you canât see any light,â âCome out at the first sign of bad weather,â and, most importantly, âDo not, under any circumstances, interact with any humans.â
Your mother may be renowned for rescuing a stranger from the unrelenting grasps of the seaâif she hadnât, you wouldnât even be here right nowâbut that was a very rare case. Far more often than not, mermaid interactions with humans out on the waters ended up in the mermaid being tortured, held hostage, or even killed.
You knew the rules by heart, and yet, maybe it was because of your young age, you still broke them. You werenât really aware of your actions in the moment; one second, you were swimming alongside a pod of dolphins, racing against the currents. The next, you heard loud voices and realized that almost directly above you, yet still a good few dozen meters away, was some sort of ship.
You had ducked down next to a big sponge, peering up apprehensively. It was at that moment you realized that you were far outside of the boundaries set for you by your parents. You should have turned back, should have swam back home, but there was something about the ship, something that intrigued you so much it forced you to stay in place.
A few moments passed, and seeing as there was no commotion, you let your curiosity get the better of you. After all, that ship shouldnât even have been out there. Slowly, you crept closer and closer to the surface, making sure to remain in the shadows. The noises were becoming clearer; you could make out peopleâs voices now. But they still werenât sharp enough for you to understand what they were saying.
Finally, you took the risk and poked your head out of the water near the rear of the ship. The sight before you elicited a sharp gasp, and made you wish you had just gone back when you still had the chance.Â
Extended from the side of the ship was a long, wooden plank. Standing on one side of it (the safe end), was a man, gagged, blindfolded, and bound. He looked to be no older than forty, with a scraggly beard and ripped clothes.
A pirate.
Another figure emerged, walking to the edge of the deck. Your reflexes caused you to duck down quickly, so only your eyes were barely above the water. This figure was much younger, with dark brown hair parted neatly and angular features twisted into a wicked smile. He donned a maroon blazer that covered a white shirt with an upturned collar. Something in his left hand shined brilliantly under the sunâs bright rays.
The younger figure laughed, but not in the way one would laugh at a funny joke. He unsheathed a cutlass from his side, using it to poke the back of the man on the plank.Â
âYou see, Mr. Jones? This is what happens when you cross the most feared pirate captain in all the lands!â the young figure roared as he yanked off the older manâs blindfold, revealing to him his fate. The fear and panic that spread across the manâs face has been forever etched into your mind, even to this day.
You heard the man beg and plea for mercy, watched as every move he made caused the plank to sway even more violently. The pirate captain simply laughed, his crew along with him. Finally, when you suppose he tired of hearing the man grovel, you watched in terror as the captain gave the man a good kick in the back, finally sending him over the edge.
Suddenly, it was like the world was spinning in slow motion. The man plummeting off the wooden platform, falling, falling, falling. His screams muffled by the cloth around his mouth. Then, all too soon, he made contact with the water with a loud splash.Â
He sank quickly, devoured by the oceanâs waters within the blink of an eye. Your young, distraught face watched as a few bubbles rose to the surface. Then nothing. All that remained of the manâs existence, all there was to give proof that he had ever even been there, were a few ripples in the water.
That was it.
You were frozen in shock. Howâwhatâwhy? Your brain could barely string together a comprehensive sentence. All you were sure of was the feeling inside you. You couldnât quite put it into words, could barely even understand it. But it made your tail ache to move, made you feel as if you simply couldnât stay in one place any longer.
You dove beneath the surface, frantically swimming towards the direction where you saw the man go under. You kept looking around, searching, but to no avail. You decided to dive deeper, swimming lower and lower until the water around you was near pitch-black. You were growing more and more panicked by the second, because every second you wasted was another second the man grew closer to death.
Finally, you caught a glimpse of movement out of the corner of your eye. Hope flaring, you darted towards it, the figure becoming clearer the closer you got.
It was him.
You reached out and grabbed him by the collar of his shirt to prevent him from sinking farther. His eyes were shut and he wasnât breathing, but you could still hear a heartbeat. There was still time left.
Wrapping your arms around him, you started the difficult journey back to land. Thankfully, you knew of a small island not too far from here. Swimming with the added weight of a fully grown man was incredibly difficult, especially for a young mermaid, but you persisted. After all, this was his life on the line.
You swam as hard as fast as you could, and thankfully, by some blessing from the heavens, found a warm water current going the direction you were. You let it carry you, the rushing stream multiplying your efforts. Finally, after what seemed like hours but must have only been a couple of minutes, you reached the island.
Letting the wave wash you up on shore, you settled the man down on the soft sand the first chance you got. You rolled him to his front, which was quite the endeavor itself. His heartbeat had grown more shallow, but it was still there. There was still hope.
Using the skills your mother had taught you, you started to nurse the man back to health using your melodic voice. Ever since you were young, she had explained to you the gift bestowed upon mermaids, the power of healing through song. She taught you to sing before you could walk, and it was the one thing that you were sure you could do right.
As you sang your strange and melodious tune, it finally occurred to you that you were breaking the most sacred of rules. Not only were you interacting with a stranger, you were coaxing him back to life. Like mother, like daughter, you thought. I suppose healing strangers who were drowning at sea runs in my blood.
The only caveat to your healing powers is that it takes quite some time to have its full effects. You donât know how long you sat on the beach, but it had been quite some time. You probably would have been there for much longer had it not been for the boom voice that sounded behind you, waking you from your trance of song.
âWell, Iâll be. If it isnât a mermaid.â
You practically jumped out of your fins as you turned around, startled beyond words. There, towering above you, was the evil pirate captain you saw earlier. He was even younger than you had previously thought. In fact, he couldnât be much older than you. You wondered for a fleeting moment how a kid like that could command an entire ship full of grownâand scary-lookingâmen, but decided you have bigger matters at hand to worry about.
A few members of his crew lurked behind the captain, and you could see a small lifeboat docked to the ground near the coastline. Further beyond that, his ship swayed in the ocean waves, dark against the bright horizon.
You followed the pirateâs gaze down to your tail, which was still out. You silently cursed yourself for forgetting to transform back into your human form, being too distracted by saving the man to pay attention to your own safety.
You wanted to yell at the cruel pirate for trying to kill this man. No matter who he was, what he had done, he didnât deserve to die. At least not like that. But the words got caught in your throat, so while a war raged inside your mind, you were completely quiet on the outside, simply staring up at the man with wide doe eyes.
âYou have a lovely voice,â the man said, with a tone that you wouldnât quite imagine a killer using. He must have overheard me sing earlier, you thought to yourself. âTell me, little mermaid, who taught you to sing?â
âM-my mother,â you replied weakly, your voice far more meager and small than you wanted it to be. You were still staring up at him, afraid of what heâd do to you.
âYour mother? Well, thatâs quite interesting.â The captain raised his left hand to scratch at his chin, which is when you realized that it wasnât a hand at all. Instead of a hand was a curved metal hook, with a sharp point gleaming at the end. So that must be the shiny thing I saw earlier, you thought.
âOh, where are my manners?â laughed the pirate abruptly. âMy name is Captain James Hook, leader of the Jolly Roger. And you are?â
You blinked, almost forgetting your own name. If it were a less tense moment than this, you would have laughed at the fact that his name is rather befitting for him. âY/N,â you respond.
âY/NâŚNow, where have I heard that name before?â He tapped his chin with his hook again.
âSir, thatâs the name of Princess Arielâs daughter,â one of the big, meaty pirates behind him answered in a gruff voice.
âThatâs right!â Hook exclaimed. âYouâre the mermaidâs daughter. You know, rumor has it youâll be joining me at Merlinâs Academy in the fall, is that right?â
For some reason, your voice seemed to not work anymore, so you settled for nodding. Join him? you pondered. You didnât know that he was also a student at the school you were planning to attend.
Hook started pacing along the beach, arms crossed with his hooked hand extended, deep in thought. You watched him, fear growing by the second. A sly smirk spread across his face, which only served to fuel the flames of your worry.Â
âYou know, you directly defied my command by saving that man,â he started. Slowly. Deliberately. Choosing every word precisely and carefully, like a shark circling its prey. âDo you even know why I made him walk the plank?â You shook your head no, the panic in you reaching record heights.
âThat manââhe vaguely gestures towards the unconscious body laying on the beach with his hookââstole an entire weekâs worth of rations from my ship. An entire weekâs worth of food and rum for an entire crew. Had he gotten away with it, we likely would have starved to death out at sea. Does he seem so innocent now, little mermaid? So worth saving?â
Again, you shook your head no. Although you agreed he definitely wasnât an innocent man, you still didnât see making him walk the plank a justifiable punishment. Despite your thoughts, you kept your mouth shut. Angering the captain further was not going to do you any good.
âNow, if anyone else had done something like this, I wouldnât hesitate to cut their head right off,â Hook said menacingly, and with a swish, unsheathed his sword once again. You flinchedâhardâand scrambled to back away from him.Â
Hook took note of this, and, sheathing his sword, crouched down to get on the same level as you. âBut donât worry, little mermaid. I wonât hurt you. You see, youâve piqued my interest. Plus, it would do me no favors to have a little girlâs blood on my hands.â
You let out a breath you hadnât even realized you were holding. So heâs not going to kill me, right?
âBut, alas, you canât leave unpunished, now, can you?â he added. Your eyes grew impossibly wider, your entire body shaking in fear. This was it. He was going to kill you, or do something equally worse.
âI demandââyou already felt a tear slip down your cheekâthat you write to me for the remainder of the summer.â
Wait, what?
âW-write?â you asked in disbelief. âAs inâŚâ
âLetters,â Hook finished for you. âWrite me letters. Iâll give you the mailing address of the Jolly Roger. Write me everyday, and Iâll promise Iâll write you back whenever we dock. How does that sound?â
âO-okay,â you reply, still taken aback by the peculiar, and far more lenient than youâd expected, request. That was all you had to do? Write letters? As punishment for saving the life of someone heâd ordered to die? You must be dreaming.
âOh, and,â Hook said, voice lowered as he leaned in close to you, until he was just a hairâs breadth away from your ear. You could feel his warm breath on your skin, his alluring scent of salty winds and something richer, deeper, filling your lungs. âI look forward to seeing you in the fall. Donât forget me, my little mermaid.â
With that, he stood up, smoothing out the lines on his pants. âYou wouldnât happen to need a ride back home, would you, love?â
You shook your head no, too terrified of him changing his mind to spend another moment in his presence. You glanced back at the man lying behind you, still unconscious. âW-what about him? What will you do with him?â you managed to choke out, somehow finding your voice again.
Hook pondered this for a long minute, before finally answering, âHe can live.â You let out a shaky breath. âBut only because of you, little mermaid. And only this time. You go against my wishes again, and trust me, your punishment will be far more severe.â
And with that, he went back to his ship and sailed away.
You still muse about that day, thinking how different things would have been if you had changed just one little thing.
You kept your promise of writing him letters, too afraid to know what would happen when you had to inevitably face him in the fall to break it. At first, they started out simple. Ordinary recounts of your day, your favorite things, what you liked to do. As the weeks passed, you started writing more personal letters. How you felt about certain things or certain people, including your parents. You never spoke a word of that fateful day to them, knowing that youâd be grounded for life and forbidden from swimming ever again if they caught even a whiff of the danger you had put yourself in.Â
Hook kept his promise, too. He wrote you back, although it was far less frequent than your letters. Even though he kept his responses short and concise, you always ended up hearing his voice in your head as you read his notes. You soon found yourself checking your mailbox daily, even getting to know the mailman rather well. The rush of dopamine you got every time you opened it to find a letter awaiting you was unmatched; you would always run upstairs to your room, lock the door, and pour over the note. Reading every line, every word over and over again, committing them to memory.Â
You donât know why you enjoyed these little letters so much. Maybe it was the thrill of having a secret that no one else knew of, or the absence of your usual loneliness every time you were reminded that somewhere out there, across the seas, was someone awaiting your letters, reading them, and writing back to you. Whatever it was, your heart started to form an emotional attachment to him without you even realizing it.Â
Unbeknownst to you, that had been his exact plan all along.
Itâs safe to say that once you started school at Merlin Academy, Hookâsâor Jamesâs, as he insisted on you calling himâgrip on you only grew. Things started out pretty normal: light conversations in class and stolen looks exchanged across the hall, mostly initiated by him. After the first few weeks passed, things between you two only grew. Secret meetings during lunch hours, rendezvous after school, and small gifts exchanged between the two of you. From there, it became brushing your hands together whenever you passed by each other, soft pecks on the cheek or forehead where there were prying eyes, and more passionate kisses when the two of you finally found time to be alone.
Truth be told, you donât really know what you two are now. Normally, you would consider two people that partake in such actions to be courting, and you kind of assume you are. But James has never said anything about a relationship to you, and in all honesty, youâre too afraid to ask him. You feel terribly confused at his intentions towards you; on the one hand, he approaches you every day without fail, even if you try to ignore him or when your schedules donât match up. Somehow, he always finds a way. On the other hand, he never asked you to be his lover, never even vaguely mentioned anything of the sorts. So, you decided, with a heavy heart, to not be too confident and consider yourself his partner. And unfortunately, that meant that he wasnât yours, either.
Really, you never meant to grow so involved with the bastard pirate that threatened to kill you on the beach that day. But for some strange reason, instead of treating you coldly like he did everyone else, especially the other hero kids, he was softer with you. Considerate, even. You had half-expected him to want nothing to do with you after your first few interactions, but he kept seeking you out. You often opened your locker to a note inside, or entered your dorm to find a letter slipped beneath the door.
Today was one of those days. You had gotten a note telling you to wait for him in your usual place in the evening, after classes. So here you are, waiting, staring at the water fountain in the courtyard. Youâve always been transfixed by the way the water spurts out the center and splashes all around. It seems that whenever youâre alone with your thoughts, they always end up back to that fateful day you met James, and everything thatâs happened since.
âWait for me long, my little mermaid?â a deep voice whispers in your ear from behind. You jump only a little, far more used to James sneaking up on you now than you used to be. For some reason, it seems he loves to startle you by wrapping his arms around your waist and pulling you in close from behind, or speaking softly in your ear.
You twirl around, a delighted expression on your face, although you try to mask it with a feigned annoyance. âAnd if I say I did?â
âWell then, Iâd have to find a way to make it up to you then, wouldnât I, darling?â he purrs, using his hook to spin you around in his arms so youâre face-to-face. His lips make his way to yours, pulling you in for a slow, sensual kiss. You wrap your arms around his neck, bringing his head closer to yours, not able to get enough of his touch.Â
The feeling of his skin against yours ignites something in you, and you find your mouth opening to give him more access as a soft whimper escapes your lips. One hand reaches into his hair, tugging at it gently from the base of his head, while the other one trails down the front of his shirt.
James leans into you even further, your bodies flush against each other now, as he deepens the kiss. You find yourself leaning against the edge of the water fountain, the cool sprinkles providing a welcomed contrast to your heating-up bodies.
Once youâve completely lost your breath, you pull away just slightly, a love-drunk smile on your face. âYou had a request for me?â you whisper, panting, eyes full of adoration for the man you were interlocked with.Â
James breaks into a grin. A genuine one, not one of the smirks he flashes to uphold his patented suave demeanor. âAh, yes, how could I forget, my love?â
He pulls further away to give you two enough room to breathe, yet keeping his good hand on the small of your back. âI was reminded today that it's been quite some time since Iâve heard your voice, my little mermaid.â
You give a little smile, deciding to mess with him a bit. âWhatever do you mean? You hear my voice every day. I mean, youâre even hearing it right now.â
James cocks his head to the side and raises a single eyebrow, clearly aware of your antics. âYour other voice, love.â
You giggle. âFine, all right. Only for you,â you say, giving him a peck on the nose.Â
You sit down on the ledge of the fountain, turning back to stare at the water again. Although it has been a long time since you stretched your tail and went for a swim, simply seeing the rushing water soothes you. It isnât quite like being immersed in it, but it still gives you some semblance of comfort.Â
You reach into the pool at the bottom, letting the cool water rush along your fingertips as you inhale a deep breath. Through your mermaid abilities, your voice twists into an otherworldly song, filling the space with a mellifluous sound.Â
James takes a place on the ledge next to you, reaching into the water to hold your submerged hand. You donât really feel it, too transfixed on the rushing waves. You donât see the way James gazes at you, like youâre his entire world. The softness, the tenderness in his eyes, which he reserves for you only. He looks at you not as if youâre his sun, something too bright to ever stare directly at, something violent and explosive and harmful, but as if youâre his moon.Â
As if youâre the figure he watches every night before he closes his eyes, and the one he wishes to see again when he wakes up. As if youâre the only thing he notices every time the darkness envelops him, your presence never falling off the pedestal he places it on in his mind. Never losing its worth. He looks at you, your soft glow and mesmerizing shimmer, as if youâre the only thing filling up the night sky. The stars and constellations pale in comparison to you, especially on your best nights, when you shine so magnificently.Â
You are the moon, and he is the tide of the ocean, constantly being pulled in by you. Never being able to escape the grasp you have on him, the grasp you are so blissfully unaware of. He stares at you in awe and wonder, bathing in your gorgeous light, so close yet always so far away. Sitting all alone against the dark backdrop of the evening sky, waiting for him to come back to you. And without reason, you always disappear. Always leaving him wanting more, waiting till the moment he can bathe in your presence again.Â
As you sing, the tide gets pulled in by the gravity of the moon. Your lyrical voice bounces off the stone walls, surrounding you both, just as the moonlight surrounds the waves on that mystical night.Â
But the moonlight is only a reflection of the sunâs glow, is it not? When daylight comes, the moon will pull away from the waves, its absence in the sky all but forgotten in the sunâs presence. And as dawn breaks, so too will the pull between the moon and ocean.Â

No exceptions?
Summary: Regina was mean to everyone, no exceptions. Yet when she was around you, it was a completely different storyâŚ
Pairing: Regina x Fem!Reader
Warnings: Just Regina being her mean self! But mostly fluff!
Words: 1.6k
Requested!
A/N: I really loved writing this one-shot, Iâm a sucker for seeing Reginaâs soft side for the reader and the reader only. Iâm hoping to make a masterlist soon so you guys can see who Iâll write for. Iâd love to write for any mean girls ships and I have a Leighton Murray fic in mind too which Iâm dying to write. Requests are open!
Regina George had made fun of nearly everyone at school. No one was immune to her relentless teasing, thatâs just the way it was at North Shore - so why was it that she had never seemed to target you before? You didnât seem to mind it at all. In a way, it made you feel special.
The first incident of this type of treatment started when you had been walking rather quickly down a hallway to your next class. You had gotten so carried away studying in the library, that you hadnât heard the bell ring. This led to you rushing to get to math class, not paying much attention to your surroundings. In the next step, you had felt yourself crash into someone in front of you. Judging from the way surrounding voices became hushed and the way you felt as though the halls had eyes all of a sudden, you could have guessed who it was without even looking at them. It was Regina George. In that moment, as you realised the identity of the girl who towered over you, you had braced yourself for an onslaught of insults. Yet they never came. Instead, upon meeting her gaze, you had seen her eyes soften, followed by her giving you an almost apologetic smile. But, before you could utter your own apology to her, she had already disappeared into the sea of students.
You had imagined that moment to have been a one-time thing. Maybe she was in a really good mood that day - anything to brush off her strange behaviour. But then came the second incident, where you had been heading into the cafeteria to grab some lunch and sit with your usual group of friends. As you had entered the cafeteria, you could already hear Reginaâs voice loud enough, making her usual scathing comments about people as they walked past her table. Talking about their appearance, their clothes, or their hair - how trashy they looked. Once again, as you made your way past the table where the plastics were seated, you had mentally prepared yourself for whatever nasty comment would inevitably leave Reginaâs mouth. Yet, when she had spotted your nervous gaze on her, all she did in return was smirk. You couldâve sworn she had given a subtle wink at you too, but with your racing thoughts, it was hard not to focus on simply making it past her as quickly as possible.
It was twice now, that you had escaped Reginaâs infamous wrath. Which had left you wondering the reasons why - not that you were complaining.
It was actually nice not having to worry about being the target of Reginaâs verbal attacks. So, within the next few days, you had grown the confidence to gift her warm smiles whenever you would catch her eye on you.
Then came the following week in the class that both you and Regina happened to share. As usual, you walked in and took a seat right in the corner, tucked away from everyone, ready to daydream your way through the hour. You had spotted Regina surrounded by Gretchen and Karen, chatting and giggling, while the teacher droned on about whatever chapter the class would be asked to read for next weekâs quiz. You were finding it a little hard to focus on your own thoughts, as you kept feeling Reginaâs gaze on you every so often. She was making it incredibly subtle â but not subtle enough.
What broke you out of your daydream was when the teacher seemed to have had enough of the chatter from the plastics, as she had suddenly ordered Regina and Gretchen to switch seats with other students. The worst part about this wasnât that your daydreaming was interrupted, but that the student Regina was made to switch seats with, happened to be the student sitting next to you. You watched as she had rolled her eyes in the process of making her way over to the space next to you. She feigned indifference, as though sitting next to you wasnât a big deal.
She had been waiting for a chance all week to finally get closer to you.
You can feel Reginaâs presence next to you as you steal a glance at her before attempting to keep your focus towards the front. You seemed to be succeeding for a short while until, in your peripheral vision, you notice Regina drop her pencil. It rolls towards your desk. You have no time to wonder if itâs intentional or not before you feel her lean towards you, brushing her arm against yours as she reaches to pick it back up. This slight touch causes a flutter in your stomach, which you tried to hide by remaining stoic. Though as she rose back up, instead of returning back to her own space, she leaned in close, her lips next to your ear.
âWhatâre you doing after school, pretty girl?â
Her voice, low and confident, sent a small shiver down your spine. As she moved backwards you felt her eyes boring into you, in an intense yet nervous manner. Caught slightly off guard, you hesitated, wondering how you should respondâŚ
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This first interaction accelerated the relationship between you and Regina. You began to grow very close and she was making it much more obvious to people at school that you were hers. You would often go over to her house, sometimes accompanied by Gretchen and Karen, sometimes alone. Nothing romantic had happened between the two of you, yet some strange tension always lingered whenever you were around each other. You hadnât bothered to question it; you were simply enjoying being placed on a pedestal in Reginaâs eyes. Though, some of her passing comments would trigger that same flutter in your stomach as the first time she had spoken to you.
In the same class, a few weeks later, you had walked in to take your usual seat. You then watched as Regina struts in and makes her way towards the student who had decided to sit next to you. In the next moment, you saw them scamper away as Regina had ordered them to move.
âItâs nice to see that pretty little face of yours light up whenever I come aroundâ
She whispered in sultry tone, as she settled into her seat. Until she had spoken those words, you hadnât noticed the shy smile you had been sporting in response to her making the effort just to sit next to you. The remainder of the hour passed by uneventful.
The bell, which signified the lunch period, finally rang. This meant the majority of the class had packed up and left within a minute or so, leaving you completely alone with Regina. The tension that was always present between the two of you, seemed to fill the room once again. Once you had packed your things, you got out of your seat, ready to follow the rest of your classmates to the cafeteria â yet your plans were interrupted after you sensed Regina leave her seat behind you. You felt a hand catch yours which caused you to spin around to see why she was holding you back.
âRegina, Iâm so hungry Iâm about to ravage the next edible thing I see. Whatâs up?â You questioned her, with a sense of urgency knowing you were losing your chance to be first in the lunch line.
âQuit whining pretty girl, I just wanted you alone. I havenât stopped thinking about you allll day.â The tone of her voice practically made you melt in front of her. It was hard to resist her after the treatment she had given you these past few weeks. From the touch of her hand to her soft voice, you had almost forgotten why you were in such a rush to leave the room. Though, now you were alone, you did have one question that had been playing on your mind from the day she started treating you differently. Until this moment you hadnât realised how much the shared tension had been getting to you.
âHmm All day?â You fell silent for a moment, hesitating, before continuing âand how do I know this isnât all a joke, huh? Out of all the people in this school G, why me? What makes me so different from the others?â You spoke in a curious tone, though remaining flirty. Judging from her break in eye contact, she hadnât expected you to question her intentions here, of all places. After a moment, she thought of an idea on how to reassure you, whilst still maintaining the tone of the exchange. She stood tall in front of you, pulling you toward her, gripping either side of your waist now. She looked down at you slightly, moving from your eyes to your lips, then back your eyes again. With the corners of her mouth raised, she replied in a low voice,
âYou know what I think of most people in this school? I don't. The only person I ever think about is you. I want to show you exactly what sets you apart from the restâŚâ Without allowing you time to respond, she leaned her face down, attempting to meet your lips with her ownâŚ
âGUYS HURRY UP, ITâS FRIDAY WHICH MEANS THEYâRE DOING CHEESY FRIES.â
Karenâs voice echoed across the room, causing the two of you to jump apart, startled by the sudden interruption. Being lost in the shared moment, neither of you had heard her come rushing back into the classroom to find you. You felt your face grow red hot and saw Regina clearly sharing the same level of embarrassment. After exchanging an awkward glance, Regina gripped your hand once more and led you towards the door, a mix of excitement and frustration left hanging between you both.

sanji x reader ; wc 1.4k warnings again i shat this out at 3am and there are parts iâm not too happy with but i think itâs okay as a whole <3 tiny tiny bit of angst if you squint?? fem!reader <3 hereâs my masterlist!
it had only been a few weeks since you joined the straw hatsâ crew. to leave your home and everything youâve known behind to pursue a life on the sea, on the run from the world government on a whim was a big decision, but you didnât regret it. being part of such a lively crew made it worth it, you guys were like a family already.
but they didnât need to know you did it partly because the blond cook of theirs was kindaâŚ
anyways. that can stay between you and me <3
it was the middle of the night, and you finally sat up after hours of not being able to sleep. maybe it was the humidity on the ship, or maybe it was the small, lingering homesick feeling you had. you drowsily made your way to the deck, the slightly salty wind waking you up a little. now that you were out of your room, it was homesickness that was keeping you awake. you hadnât felt homesick these past weeks, why were you feeling it now? this had been everything you were dreaming ofâadventure, fun, and friends you knew youâd go to the end of the grand line for, even though youâd only known them a quarter of the time theyâd known each other.
oh.
was homesickness that feeling you felt sometimes, when everyone was laughing together?
you cast your mind back to the time youâd feel sad at home. your mum would be able to sense your mood from rooms away and bake you blueberry muffins. after eating them, youâd forget about your worries and give your mum a cheery smile, whether covered in blueberry juice and crumbs or not. and so, you made your way to the kitchen, hoping that baking some blueberry muffins now would cure your loneliness, despite the ungodly hour.
hopefully sanji wonât mind...Â
remembering the recipe from some corner in the back of your mind was proving to be a much more difficult task than you anticipated, paired with the unfamiliarity of the shipâs kitchen. to be honest, you were having fun! it was like a game, which drawer will the wooden spoon be in? not long after, the batter was complete and distributed into their muffin cases. it was a miracle you found everything; however, that didnât mask the moderately large mess that had built up over the course of baking the muffins. fond memories of your mum walking through the door to find you covered in flour and your lips stained with blueberry juice flooded back to you; you felt at home again, even if you werenât physically. not long after you cleaned the counter and put the muffins in the oven, the comforting smell of fresh muffins filled the kitchen, and you took a step back to admire your work. your spirits were definitely lifted. maybe blueberry muffins are the solution to most problems.
meanwhile, in sanjiâs room (room??? quarter????? wherever heâs sleeping, please just roll with it), he was awakened by the light scent of⌠blueberry muffins? he rolled over to check the time. nobody could be possibly be baking something at such a time⌠maybe he was still dreaming. nonetheless, he groggily got up just to confirm his suspicionâto make sure that no one had broke onto the ship⌠and decided to bake blueberry muffins⌠or something.
as sanji approached the kitchen, he noticed the lights were on, and a figure standing right in front of the oven.
oh?
now he was concerned. the figure was⌠a girl?
what? this is one strange dream⌠he thought to himself.
when he could finally distinguish that it was, in fact, a girl, and that it was you, of all people, he was just confused. he leaned against the doorframe, observing how you were looking at the oven like you were watching over a child. from this angle, he could make out that you were making blueberry muffins.
âwhat do we have here, hm? why are you up so late, [name]?â
you screamed in response, then swiftly covered your mouth as you remembered the time.
sanji chuckled. âhello to you too,â his look still conveyed sheer confusion, but he was somewhat enjoying it now.
you could feel the heat rise to your cheeks, both from embarrassment and that your secret crush, of sorts, was talking to you.
the fact that it was the middle of the night as you were baking muffins in his kitchen without asking him was irrelevant. sanji was talking to you!
you laughed nervously. âI just woke up in the middle of the night and I⌠really wanted blueberry muffins⌠so I decided to bake someâŚâ he looked at you, evidently quite amused.
âsorry if I messed up your kitchen! or if you donât like people using it or something.. I should have asked you beforeâŚâ you trailed off timidly.
sanji laughed again, before moving to lean on the counter beside you. âItâs fine, honestly! besides, I didnât know you bake, how come youâve never said anything about it?â
lies.
usually, sanji was very particular with who touches the equipment in the kitchen, but he could let it slide for a pretty girl like you, or so he thought.
what you didnât know is that your little crush was mutualâsanji had his eye on you,
not in a stalker-ish way, no!
âever since he saw you when the crew stayed on your island. since then, he gradually started to become less and less flirty as he used to around nami and nico robin, even if you didnât notice. he really only had eyes for you, following you around the ship as best as he could without looking like a weirdo. it was bad, he was down bad for you. by some power of the gods, you hadnât noticed yet. everyone had noticedâeven zoro, who took the opportunity to tease him every second he got; sanji was so down bad that he didnât mind being teased about it. he did become aware of your lingering stares from time to time, but for the sake of his sanity, he just pretended he didnât see anything and looked away, because if your eyes met you would see how flustered he actually was.
âoh, no, I donât bake often! my mum taught me this recipe and I make it when I feel⌠lonely , or I donât know, I think I just missed the taste of them.â you replied. sanjiâs expression turned into one of worry. was there something wrong?
âno, no! itâs not you guys, I just⌠itâs my first time being away for so long, itâs just different to anything ive done before, and I just want comfort in something that I know⌠I probably make no sense right now..â you quickly added.
sanji shook his head. âno, I get it. doing something different is scary, and I think youâre really brave, [name].â he gave you a reassuring smile.
you blushed a little, but sanji caught sight of it and his eyes widened a little, before laughing. that little interaction was enough to confirm there was something between the two of you, but maybe the middle of the night wasnât the best time to confront itâŚ
beeeeeep!
the two of you were interrupted by the timer going off, indicating that the muffins were done. by now, the scent of blueberry muffins was overflowing in the kitchen, causing the two of you to laugh. as you went to take them out of the oven, sanji stopped you abruptly.
âlet me do it; I wouldnât want you to get burnt,â he took the gloves from you and took the muffins out, placing them on the counter.
damn. they looked better than you thought they would.
while the muffins were cooling, you and sanji continued your conversation from earlier, but now there was something in the air other than the smell of blueberry muffins. all of sanjiâs responses had a warmer tone to them, maybe because he knew that you felt the same way, or maybe because he learnt something about you today that the rest of the crew didnât know, he was someone special to you. the night passed quickly and soon you could see the sun rising, signalling that it was probably a good time to get at least some sleep before the entire crew awoke.
sanji could feel the effect of the sleep he lost that night and he was visibly tired in the morning, as were you; but he didnât mind losing sleep over you if it meant one day he could be your boyfriend. <3
notes i love sanji so much <33 this was inspired by when i made blueberry muffins for my mom đ˝ should i do a 100 followers event pls lmk and also send in any reqs you want love you !!

Stolen Moment
Kylo Ren x Fem! Reader.
Word Count: 1,771.
Warning: Suggested Nuidty, Mild Kidnappings, Nothing Crazy.
*Reader and Kylo have a establsihed realtionship. Reader is kidnapepd and has a small meeting with an old friend.
Masterlsit
âKyâ Her voice felt shy as she spoke, which was contrasting to the normally warm and easy going personality she carried that he loved so much.
âYes, (Y/N/N)?â She was laid on his chest, (Y/H/C) down for once and body nearly bare against his. They spent many nights like this. Ever since their days learning under his uncle, how he hated that man for everything, but her. He would thank him for the chance of meeting her.
âDoes something feelâŚâ the pause had the hair on his arms sticking up. âOut of place to you? Like something is going to happen? Something almost strange feeling?â She looked up at him now, eyes showing a fear he wished she didn't have to endure.
(Y/N) was force sensitive, in her own way. She had a harder time connecting with the physical side of things, but her connection to the force itself? He envied it. It spoke to her in ways that sounded almost surreal, even to a powerful force user like himself. Where he could bend the force to his will, move through peoples mind, bend will. She could get into the soul of the universe, tell stories of things that haven't even happened yet. Understand the world in a way one could only dream.
âI can have the Knights stand guard of you tomorrow, and you may even shadow me throughout the day if youâd like?â They had been at war with the rebellion for sometime now. He knew she had no interest in the fight, sheâd made that very clear, but he knew she'd feel safer by his side as he went about his day then to be apart with these feelings.
âI don't know yet if it's that serious, I can't really get a grasp on what is going to happen. Just. Something.â She laid back down to his chest.
âWell maybe some sleep will clear your vision, after you meditate tomorrow morning come find me and we can spend the morning tomorrow. I only have a few meetings before training.â She hummed her reply, he knew she was in agreement, she came to find him almost every morning once she'd gotten through her routines.
âGoodnight my love.â Her voice was more velvety now, he knew she'd sleep soon, and he'd have the knights guard her till she woke.
â
When Kylo woke up his morning went as usual. Tuck (Y/N) back to bed, shower and change into his usual attire, meditate for a few minutes in his study, head to the bridge to meet Hux and start his day. Nothing seemed off yet. Rebels were still out of their reach currently, so nothing but trying to track them down was really important at the moment. Rey and his mother had been blocking any trace of them from him for weeks now.
They're here. They're on the ship, Ky.
He heard it loud and clear, his body running frigid at the panic in her tone. He could always feel her, she was like a constant warm aura around him, no matter the distance, and suddenly everything had run cold.
âMan the ships, all gun up. The rebels are on the ship.â He heard Hux start shouting commands as stormtroopers left and right started marching in groups around the ship in an instant. He ran down the halls as he made his way back to their living quarters. How they had even gotten on the ship he couldn't phantom.
Kylo Help. The Jedi. Sheâs here.
For the second time that day dread filled his core. Not her. Not now..
Iâm on my way (Y/N)
His footsteps sped up, he was running now, sliding through turns and ripping the doors open with the force as he attempted to reach their quarters. Something was wrong. Something was very wrong. He got on the elevator to their floor, pacing the small room when it happened.
He felt nothing. For the first time since the first moment they met, he felt nothing of her presence. The elevator started to creak and groan as the force around him began to swell with his anger.
As the doors exploded open he ran down the hall. The knights he left to protect her laid on the ground, leading up to the room. He blew the doors straight through to the back wall tearing off his helmet as he looked for the worst imaginable. Their bed was made. A still hot cup of tea sat by her meditation seat in their living room. The breakfast cart still set up neatly by the dining room table, untouched.
But (Y/N)? Nowhere to be found. He ripped through every room twice. Then he broke. He felt his anger explode through the room. Felt the ship tremble as he screamed and slammed his helmet into every thing within arms reach.
Theyâd taken the one person on the ship he would break without, and they knew it.
â
(Y/N) remembered waking in a cold sweat. She remembered trying to get her morning started as normal.She remembered the fighting outside that broke her from her meditation. The rebels burst into her room. Her fear as she begged Kylo for help, though for the first time she couldn't feel if he was answering her or not. The silence. Cold.
Now she was here, wherever that was exactly. She couldn't feel Kylo. She couldn't remember how she had ended up. There was nothing in the room around her and there was no way she could escape the ropes bounding her to the chair she was in.
âYouâve grown into a marvelous young woman, (Y/N).â Chills ran up her neck. She could pick that voice in a chorus of millions.
âMrs. Solo.â She felt it now, the force moving back through her. Her mother in lawâs presence. Leia had always been warm, her aura like a blanket to whoever could feel it. She was strong, and easy to be around. She emerged from the shadows, pulling a chair with her to sit across from (Y/N).
âOh no, we never married.â Her chuckle reminded her of her years at the Jedi Temple, she could never dislike Leia, no matter how much Kylo resented his mother, she was always a kind soul. âI'm still Organa, or Skywalker if you please, darling. Only Ben carries Hanâs name.â
âBen goes by Kylo Ren now.â Leia rolled her eyes at the announcement. As if she had just been told her son just broke another plate.
âAh yes, Kylo Ren. I find it funny he chose a name that rhymes with Ben. Since he clearly hated the name so much.â She sipped on a cup of warm tea while speaking. âHow is he?â
Her question was genuine, (Y/N) could feel it. She could feel him again, suddenly. Hot. Red hot with anger. Then he was gone, as quick as he was there. Cold again. She knew it had something to do with Leia and Rey, her lack of his connection with him. They were good at blocking him out, keeping their rebels safe at all cost.
âHeâs quite angry right now.â She felt the ropes drop from her arms. The force.
âYou just gave him my location, you do know that.â (Y/N) rolled her shoulders back. Neck cracking from the uncomfortable position she had been held in.
âI'd rather him come get you. You're more of a hazard to keep around, heâd mount every one of my soldiers headâs on his saber before he let a single hair on your head be harmed.â Leia chuckled. She knew her son had fancied (Y/N) since the day she dropped him off with Luke. She was beautiful. âI told them not to take you originally. These youths are far too ambitious though, not listening to their elders.â
âAm I a mother in law yet, or has he not made you empress of the new empire yet?â This time it was (Y/N)âs turn to laugh, she looked at the black kyber crystal on her ring finger.
âEngaged, not yet married. Said he'd like to have squashed out your rebales before we sat down to plan our future.â She held up her hand to show her the ring, Leia taking it into her own.
âWhat a beautiful kyber crystal, he must have looked far and wide for such a rare color.â She turned her hand to watch it sparkle.
âGeneral Leiaâ a voice spoke up from behind the two. A man with curly brown hair and a warm complexion walked into (Y/N)âs eyeline. He was nervous, she could feel it. He looked at her then back to Leia, a allure of confidence she knew he didn't possess in his voice. âEveryone is either up in the air ready to go or on their way. Just us left.â
âI'll be ready in one moment Poe, let me have one more moment with my daughter.â (Y/N)âs heart warmed at the title. She knew Leia didn't agree with Kyloâs ambitions, neither did she honestly, but she knew she'd never be anywhere but his side.
âTell my son I love him for me. No matter what.â Leia squeezed her hand. âIt's time for us to leave before Kylo shish kebabs us. There's tea and some crackers on the table for you dear. I know you'll feel him as soon as we leave so no need to give you a eta I'm sure.â
âThank you, please be safe.â (Y/N) leaned over and hugged her, taking in the warmth of her hold. She felt like Ben in a way, like mother like son she supposed.
âYou too dear.â With that Leia walked out. (Y/N) felt no need to follow her. She heard her spacecraft leave the atmosphere as she sat and took in her empty surroundings. Standing up she walked to the table and took a bite of one of the sweet crackers Leia had left her. Taking her tea out the door.
She felt him then. He filled back into the coldness she felt all morning. Their connection was unblocked. She could tell he was close. She could feel the force around her again.
(Y/N) ? Can you hear me? Are you okay? You're calm. Are the rebels gone?
Yes love, Iâm fine.
Iâm on my way. I saw your location for a moment. Enough time to find you.
I know. Iâm waiting.
She took a sip of her tea and chuckled, banthas milk and some sugar, just like how Ben likes it.

Just some Kylo Ren/ Ben Solo brain rot I've been thinking about.

~âŚCaught FeelingsâŚ~

Merman x F!Reader
This is actually my first time writing about falling in love and stuff, so I hope I did good!
The art used doesn't belong to me, but to it's rightful owner @weyowang!
TW: ENTANGLEMENT OF MARINE LIFE, other than that it's pure fluff!
Another fish is wrapped up by a loose fishing line, it was the fifth one today Tullius has come across on his way close to the shore. The lone merman wastes no time and swims over to help the poor puffer fish in need. His long, strong, pale tail pushing him through the water with no effort.
Reaching for the puffed up creature he carefully untangles the thin line from its spikes and removes the hook puncturing it's pectoral fin. Luckily the brown and white spotted fish isn't badly hurt and manages to swim off just fine, deflating in the process. That has become an almost daily routine for the male. Everyday Tullius would swim to the beach located not far away from his shipwreck he calls home and collect various trinkets he found. Helping other sea life on the way if he sees them in trouble.
Tullius himself hasn't been safe from the trash and other gadgets humans have lost, or thrown out to sea. Having the scars and even part of a worn out net wrapped around his tail to prove it. The material dirty and grown with algea and tiny barnacles. It's also one of his reminders why he was shunned and eventually exiled from his previous home. Trying to get it off with the help from others when he couldn't do it alone, only for them to end up chasing him away.
Anything and everything human related is frowned upon in his folk. As more people came to visit the beaches, mermaids and mermen were forbidden to come anywhere close to the surface, by order of their king.
But despite knowing how bad it is for his home which he calls the ocean, he can't help but still be curious and fascinated by humans and their strange knick knacks. There's a whole wooden shelf in the downed ship full of things he's collected. One new strange, or in his eyes, beautiful object found throughout his trips is added daily. The merman doesn't even know where to stock the rest of them he'll find in the future!
Tullius has come to like it out here by himself. It's not like he was well liked before either. Tullius was seen as an outsider already by not having a vibrant color of a tale, or beautiful fins like the others.
Of course he has kept safe distances from the shore to make sure he wouldn't be spotted, but lately he can't stop himself from peeking out of the water every so often. Swimming closer day by day, just to get another glimpse of something. Or more like, someone.
Tullius has seen humans before, but when he first saw you he couldn't take his midnight blue eyes away from your figure walking along the beach. Cradling and comforting a seagull you've rescued from drowning. From this day on he couldn't stop himself from visiting, just to hope to get another glimpse of you from behind a few rocks. His organ in his chest beating faster and a warm giddy feeling spreading throughout Tullius' body. At first he confused the feeling with sickness, or the tiny fish he had for breakfast, swimming around in his belly. But then he remembered, food that's been chewed and eaten can't swim anymore.
The male came to realize, this strange feeling returns whenever he's watching you from the distance, but it's not uncomfortable. No. He likes it. A lot. And it grew as time passed, the longer he watched the more enamored he became.
Tullius desperately wants to get closer to you but, what would you think of him? Would you like him back? Or would you look at him with disgust like his own kind? He sure hopes it's not the latter.
Another dreamy sigh leaves his lips as Tullius rests his head in both of his palms, half of his body leaning on top of the rocky surface on his usual watch spot. White tail lazily swinging back and forth in the blue ocean waters. Admiring your (body type) figure doing small dances while you keep singing to your favorite song that's playing through your earphones. Hardly anyone comes to this part of the beach since it's so secluded and luckily for the merman, you've decided to live in a small hut close by! It just happened recently but he couldn't have been more excited, especially since he gets to see you everyday now.
With a soft smile Tullius listens to your lovely voice, his wine colored ear fins twitching occasionally. No matter how good or terrible your singing is to you, he thinks it's the most beautiful sound in the world. The white haired male would love to sing with you, if he could.
Tullius snaps out from his thoughts when he heard a loud "oof" and thud in the sand. It seems you've stumbled over yourself and landed almost face first into the warm sand, for a second he was worried you might've hurt yourself only to make a quiet noise of relief when you get up unharmed. Immediately ducking behind the rock for cover when you take a look around to make sure no one has seen that clumsy act.
His heart beats against his ripcage hoping you didn't notice him watching, taking a quick peek over again Tullius lets out a small sad grumble when you make your way back into your hut and out of his sight. Yes, he does want to get to know you, but he always just gets too nervous for his own good.
But he told himself to finally approach you, the merman just has no idea how. So he ends up swimming around in circles in deep thought. The sound of panicked splashing suddenly makes him look over to the beach where a poor sea turtle is trying to get into the water. Half of its shell wrapped up tightly in a net which is holding the animal just barely away from the incoming waves. Tullius swims over quickly, looking left and right for any sign of another human around.
The male crawls onto shore and drags himself over, his arms lifting his upper body up from the heated sand, the small ocean waves now just barely reaching his white finned tail. Tullius, like others of his kind can breathe in air just fine, but he still has to hurry before his gills and other fishy half dries out in the hot sun. The animal notices the merman closing in and continues to struggle, sand flying in the air and some landing in his messy locks in the process from its flippers.
As Tullius tries to comfort the turtle his scaled hands grasp onto the net and he tries to pull it away, with no luck. It looks to be wrapped around to tightly, almost suffocatingly for one to just pull it off. And slowly but surely he feels himself get dryer. The tides also seem to go against him as well when he notices the water drawing back and further away from them. His eyes start loosing focus and Tullius can feel himself growing weaker and dizzy, until he collapses onto the sand beside the other sea creature.
In his barely awake state, he notices something approaching in the distance, but he's to weak to react or make a noise that would alert the stranger. They come to a short halt and seem to call out to him, whatever it is they're saying rings through his head in a blur. His lack of response makes them hurry over until they finally reached him. Tullius barely feels his hands being lifted and freed from the net, before being held up and brought to who knows where.
Until he feels himself being submerged into the familiar salty water, he splashes for a short moment before calming down and letting himself float to the surface with relief. Dry skin regaining its needed moisture.
Then his deep blue eyes meet your wide surprised (e/c) ones and he yelps, submerging himself in the shallow water to hide.
âWait!â, That sweet voice of yours calls out to him and he slowly rises his head to the surface until just the top of his head and eyes are poking out from the water. You try to appear as nonthreatening as possible. Throwing the small knife away which you've used to cut through the seams of the net to free both the sea turtle and merman. With a quick glance down Tullius also discovers the lack of a familiar old net wrapped tightly around him now gone.
Keeping a safe distance and speaking in a calm voice as you show you're empty handed now. âIt's OK... I'm not going to harm you. See? I also freed your friend if you're wondering.â
Tullius meanwhile almost can't believe his own eyes, the human girl he's been fawning over for who knows how long has saved him. And she's not afraid of him! He keeps staring at you with big sparkling eyes, ear fins twitching happily. âCan you talk?â, the merman tilts his head once he snaps out of his small daze and shakes his head lightly, small waves rippling around his head. While the male has learned and understands human language, he can't answer. Only communicating with clicks and other noises merfolk would use.
âAh that would've been cool. I can't believe I'm actually meeting a real mermaid! Uhh merman..?â you let out a small chuckle at the end and look at him with big amazed eyes, not believing that a supposed mythical creature is right in front of you. âMy name is (y/n) it's very nice to meet you!â
Tullius let's out a few clicks in return, introducing himself despite knowing you won't understand him either way.
The two of you spend a little more time together, the merman still mostly submerged while you've sat down onto the sand with your feet dipped into the shallow waves. Having what feels like more of a one sided conversation since he can't really talk back. But nonetheless, you still understood the small gestures he would make.
Only when the sun slowly starts to set did both of you notice how late it actually is. Standing up you give the merman a small wave, âIt was really nice meeting you, Mr. Merman. I hope we can see each other again some time.â
Tullius perks up at the suggestion that you want to meet him again. Tilting his head slightly to the side he makes a small squeaky sound, wanting to know when that time will be and where you're going. Of course you didn't understand him and assumed he was saying his own goodbye, you give him a sweet smile before returning back to your hut.
The male watching your form getting smaller with his ear fins cast down and a pout forming on his lips. How he wished he could follow after you just to spend more time with you. Oh wait. He can.
~~~
It's around ten at night when all of a sudden you hear something entering your small wooden hut. As if something heavy got knocked over. You left your window open to let the small ocean breeze in, and you never expected someone to actually break in. After all, you're basically alone on this part of the island. You made sure when you rented this hut for your summer holiday. Wanting nothing more but to relax and enjoy the beach without having other people there.
But when you sneaked out of your small kitchen with a frying pan in both hands, just in case, you find that merman you've met earlier today, laying face first on the wooden floor. Lowering your weapon you let out a surprised gasp âYou? What are you doing here?â, at the sound of your voice he quickly looks up from the floor with big eyes, a happy purr rumbling through his chest as he sits up to the best of his ability. Seemingly proud that he has found you and entered on his own. Because it was definitely not that easy.
Now that he's out of the water you can finally admire the merman more closely. He seems to be your age, soft looking fair skin with small various shaped scars littering over his entire lean and slender body. Clawed hands littered with wine red fish scales spreading from the back of his hands leading up to his forearms and fading in color until they reach up his elbows, where on each a triangular fin with the same color is situated. Three slits on each side of his neck now visible which you guess are his gills are closed shut to instead breath in the air instead of filtering the oxygen through water.
One long dorsal fin, also colored wine red, travels from the back of his neck down and along his spine to the middle of his white tail where another triangular shaped one connects wandering down right to the end. Two extra pairs on the sides of his hips and the other one further down his tail. They all look like they've either got cut or teared on the edges and you wonder if it's as painful as it looks.
Your (e/c) eyes travel back up to his head where a mop of messy wet white hair just barely covers those beautiful dark blue eyes that seem to glow in the darker corner of your room. The merman crawls closer, making your form stiffen up slightly but you do not dare to make a sudden move.
Once he's just a few feet away from you, Tullius opens his fist he's been kept closed the entire time and reveals a (favorite color) star snail sea shell, holding it towards you. âFor me?â The male nods with a chirp avoiding his gaze but glancing back at you to watch your reaction. You carefully take it from him, putting the pan away and look at it with awe exclaiming that you love his gift.
Tullius' tail slaps against the floor in delight, a sharp toothed grin and small blush spreading across his cheeks, seeing that you like his courting gift.
And this is how it would go on for a few weeks. The merman slipping into your home in the middle of the night and bringing you gifts, all the while hanging around with you so long until he has to go into the ocean again. While at day time you'll see him peaking out from the waves waiting for you to come visit him.
You came to know his name after you showed him how to write, being amazed what a quick learner your new merfriend is. The both of you bonded quickly and you would end up spending most of the time with Tullius and getting to learn more about him, as he does about you. Even sharing his collection with you and receiving some as well he's never seen before.
Eventually you come to feel a certain way for the merman, and you were hoping that he would feel the same.
Little did you know, you've already captured his heart way before you even knew him.
But the day where you have to fly back to your home from your vacation came quicker than you could count, and it made you sad about leaving Tullius for who knows how long. You have to tell him how you feel before you're gone from this island. So as per usual the first thing you do this morning, is walking out to the beach looking for the merman. And there he was, waiting for you at his usual spot by the small wooden pier leading to your hut.
Smiling he waves at you and does a few happy flips before climbing up the structure and leaping on top of you for a tight hug making you fall onto the wooden surface. Your clothes getting wet in the process but you don't mind and giggle as he purrs and nuzzles up against you.
Tullius has become more affectionate and clingy the closer you two became, but not in an overbearing or annoying way which you admit you find pretty cute.
As the two of you spend the time together, Tullius still having his arms wrapped around you chin resting on your shoulder while playing with your hair, you reveal to him about your vacation time and you ending up leaving this island. His reaction of course as you imagined makes your chest feel heavy. The merman is now pulling you tightly against him, his ear fins pulled down and whimpering softly, pleading for you to stay with him.
While Tullius understood that you had to go, it was very hard for him to accept it. After all, he just got closer to you and now you have to leave! He's worried you'll leave him forever.
âI know... I'll miss you too... â Tullius rests his forehead against yours at your words clicking in response. And as a final goodbye he gently cups your cheeks slowly leaning in until his soft wet lips meet yours in a sweet kiss, surprising you but returning it with as much love as he's pouring into the gesture. A promise to him that you will definitely come back and visit him.
He pulls away with reddened cheeks and loving smile, loosening his hold and preparing to go back into the ocean waters. Neither of you wanted to leave but it would make it harder to say goodbye. And before he finally leaves, Tullius gives you one last look back and finally manages to form his usual noises into five simple words that fills your heart with warmth and will stay with you until the time comes that the both of you will meet again.
âI... love... you... forever...(y/n).â
any podcast recommendations for guys Going Through It. im a sucker for whump and iâve already listened to TMA and Malevolent sooo
Fiction Podcasts: Characters Going Through It / Experiencing the Horrors
Gore warning for most, here's 15 to get you started:
I am in Eskew: (Horror) David Ward is arguably the Guy Going Through It. Stories from a man living in something that very much wants to be a city, and a private investigator who was, in her words, "hired to kill a ghost". Calmly recounted stories set to Eskew's own gentle, persistent rain. The audio quality's a bit naff but the writing is spectacular. If you like the writing, also check out The Silt Verses, which is a brilliant show by the same creators.
VAST Horizon: (Sci-Fi, Horror, Thriller/Suspense Elements) And Dr. Nolira Ek is arguably the Gal Going Through it. An agronomist wakes from cryo to discover the ship she's on is dead in the water, far from their destination, and seemingly empty, barring the ship's malfunctioning AI, and an unclear reading on the monitors. I think you'll like this one. Great sound design, amazing acting, neat worldbuilding, and plenty of awful situations.
Dining in the Void: (Horror, Sci-Fi) So, the initial pacing on this one is a little weird, but stick with it. A collection of notable people are invited to a dinner aboard a space station, and find not only are they trapped there, but they're on a timer until total station destruction: unless they can figure out who's responsible. And there's someone else aboard to run a few games, just to make things more interesting. The games are frequently torturous. If that wasn't clear.
The White Vault: (Horror) By the same creators as VAST Horizon, this one follows a group sent to a remote arctic research base to diagnose and repair a problem. Trapped inside by persistant snow and wind, they discover something very interesting below their feet. Really well made show. The going through it is more spread out but there's a lot of it happening.
Archive 81: (Horror, Weird Fiction, Mystery and Urban Fantasy Elements) A young archivist is commissioned to digitize a series of tapes containing strange housing records from the 1990s. He has an increasingly bad time. Each season is connected but a bit different, so if S1 (relatively short) doesn't catch your ear, hang in for S2. You've got isolation, degredation of relationships, dehumanisation, and a fair amount of gore. And body horror on a sympathetic character is so underdone.
The Harrowing of Minerva Damson: (Fantasy, Horror) In an alternate version of our own world with supernatural monsters and basic magic, an order of women knights dedicated to managing such problems has survived all the way to the world wars, and one of them is doing her best with what she's got in the middle of it all.
SAYER: (Horror, Sci-Fi) How would you like to be the guy going through it? A series of sophisticated AI guide you soothingly through an array of mundane and horrible tasks.
WOE.BEGONE: (Sci-Fi) I don't keep up with this one any more, but I think Mike Walters goes through enough to qualify it. Even if it's frequently his own fault. A guy gets immediately in over his head when he begins to play an augmented reality game of entirely different sort. Or, the time-travel murder game.
Janus Descending: (Sci-Fi, Horror, Tragedy) A xenobiologist and a xenoanthropologist visit a dead city on a distant world, and find something awful. You hear her logs first-to-last, and his last-to-first, which is interesting framing but also makes the whole thing more painful. The audio equivalent of having your heart pulled out and ditched at the nearest wall. Listen to the supercut.
The Blood Crow Stories: (Horror) A different story every season. S1 is aboard a doomed cruise ship set during WWII, S2 is a horror western, S3 is cyberpunk with demons, and S4 is golden age cinema with a ghostly influence.
Mabel: (Supernatural, Horror, Fantasy Elements) The caretaker of a dying woman attempts to contact her granddaughter, leaving a series of increasingly unhinged voicemails. Supernatural history transitioning to poetic fae lesbian body horror.
Jar of Rebuke: (Supernatural) An amnesiac researcher with difficulties staying dead investigates strange creatures, eats tasty food, and even makes a few friends while exploring the town they live in. A character who doesn't stay dead creates a lot of scenarios for dying in interesting ways
The Waystation: (Sci-Fi, Horror) A space station picks up an odd piece of space junk which begins to have a bizzare effect on some of the crew. The rest of it? Doesn't react so well to this spreading strangeness. Some great nailgun-related noises.
Station Blue: (Psychological Horror) A drifting man takes a job as a repair technician and maintenance guy for an antarctic research base, ahead of the staff's arrival. He recounts how he got there, as his time in the base and some bizzare details about it begin to get to him. People tend to either quite like this one or don't really get the point of it, but I found it a fascinating listen.
The Hotel: (Horror) Stories from a "Hotel" which kills people, and the strange entities that make it happen. It's better than I'm making it sound, well-made with creative deaths, great sound work, and a strange staff which suffer as much as the guests. Worth checking out.
Request: Anonymous asked: Hey B! Can I please get an Aemond Targ imagines. Aemond has a crush on a highborn lady that lives in the keep or in kingslanding but his cousin from essos arrives and starts stealing her attention from him. Aemond x fem reader plz. Jodie Cormer and Viserys dany's brother for the face claims please.
You watched quietly from one of the landings of the large castle halls as everyone rushed around. Nobody seemed to notice you today. It wasnât strange for highborn lords or ladies to look at you as if they had no idea why you were standing near them. Ordinarily, if you passed the king you would curtsey, perfectly, and he would smile and nod to you, sometimes asking how Helena was. You would answer most loyaly, a staunch defender of all Helena did.Â
But today no one stopped to greet you or ask after the princess. It felt strange that no one wanted to hear what you had to say about Helena. That was, after all, why you were there. Your father had set his ambition upon residing in the Red Keep at the king's service. But having achieved his goal, he found that he wanted to return home. Your mother, who hated Kings Landing, had been more than happy to leave. But you had managed to befriend the princess. She was a few years older than you but you were both quieter and gentler than those that typically lived in the city. The pair of you had started a shy friendship and soon, finding yourself invited to her side at every occasion you found yourself following her around during feasts and dances.Â
The two of you became so attached that she threw a fit when you left with your family. So much so that gold cloaks were sent to fetch you from the Kingsroad as your family began their return home. Helena had greeted you at the gates of the keep as if you had just returned from war and it was quickly agreed that you would be taken under the care of House Hightower and stay at the keep with Helena.Â
Footsteps behind you and rushed talking broke you out of your thoughts. Blinking a few times you turned and found the Queen whispering to one of her maids, gesturing for them to leave her.Â
âWhat is happening?â You asked as she approached. The cold sternness on the queen's face left as she looked at you and smiled, reaching for you. She wrapped arms with you and the two of you walked the halls together.
âThe king has relatives from Essos arriving. He is⌠beginning to worry the keep is not grand enough.â She sighed in a tone of voice that made it clear Alicent thought the fuss was ridiculous.
âBut⌠He is the king. Why should he care what someone else thinks?â You asked and she scoffed and smiled.
âExactly what I said. According to my father, there has always been some sort of contest between the king and his⌠cousin⌠uncle. I think his cousin. Though with these Targaryen marrying customsâŚâ Before she could finish she trailed off. The two of you had walked towards the entrance of the keep where a group of people were hanging Targaryen banners. Aemond was walking towards the two of you, dragging Aegon behind him so quickly that Aegonâs feet skittered over the smooth floor as he helplessly tried to find his footing.
âThere you are!â Alicent said as she dropped your arm and went over to greet them.
âWhy do I have to be here? I hate him.â Aegon grumbled. He gave you an uncomfortable grin which fell from his face when Alicent scolded him, pulling him away towards his rooms. No doubt hoping to sober him up before the ship from Essos arrived.
âWho is it that everyone is so upset about?â You asked Aemond. He had taken a moment to answer a question for one of Alicentâs maids. Nodding to her she scurried away as he turned to you.
âMy cousin's father.â Aemond said stiffly. While Aemond turned away to instruct a group of men, carrying a statue on which was the correct corridor to take, you went over all the Targaryenâs you could name and tried to figure out just which relative it could be. Finding the list too complicated to keep track of, you nodded slowly and fell into step with Aemond as he began to walk down the long corridor away from the stairs.Â
âWe are to greet them at the docks this afternoon.â You muttered as you recalled Helena informing you of the trip to the docks over breakfast. Aemond grumbled to himself and he sighed.
âI had hoped he would come by himself. Heâs bringing his son. The eldest one.â Aemond said as he stopped at a window and glared out towards the sea.
âYou do not get along?â You asked. Aemond sighed and said nothing as a boat came into view in the distance. A maid called you away before you could talk anymore and ushered you to Helenaâs rooms. Alicent entered a few moments later with dresses for both of you. Helenaâs was a light grey velvet with pale green adornments stitched over the back, down the sleeves and around the neckline in a style that the princess favoured. Your own was similar though less grand than the princesses. Once Aliencet had approved of you both the three of you trekked through the halls to a small carriage.Â
âWhy he could not dock at the private docksâŚâ Alicent grumbled to herself as she wafted herself with a green hand fan. Helena reached for your hand and squeezed it encouragingly.
The carriage ride was short however the three of you were left in the carriage while it was secured and the heat began to build. When the door finally opened the breeze was bracing. Cole helped Helena and the queen out, walking away and leaving Aemond to quickly hurry over and help you down the step out of the carriage.Â
âThis must be your young wife!â You heard a loud booming voice over the crowd that had gathered to see the king and the visitor. Looming over the crowd you could see a huge ship, larger than even the ships Lord Corlys would travel in.
When Helena became nervous and looked for you to link arms with someone tugged you forward and away from Aemond who had managed to hide the both of you from sight behind three lords each taller and wider than the last.
âI hope we can leave soon.â Helena whispered to you as her arm twisted with yours and she clutched your hand.
âWith such a grand feast prepared I can not imagine we will be here long.â You said quietly as you turned away from the procession that passed. One of the white-haired young men stopped and looked at you both. Helena groaned under her breath as he began to come closer. Her grip on your arm tightened and she looked at him with such a stern expression it was a wonder he had the courage to come closer.
âCousin.â He drawled out sweetly. Helena said nothing but bowed her head slightly in a jerked nod. His eyes flicked to you and then he did a double take as he smiled. âYou⌠you are new.â
âIt is a pleasure to meet you, my lord.â You said quietly and dropped a little in a small curtsy. Helenaâs grip on your arm refused to loosen and when you rose again you could see several of Coleâs men over the boy's shoulder. They looked rather worried.
âI wish to get out of this heat.â Alicentâs voice called out over the crowd. Helena took this as an opportunity to yank you backwards as she moved towards the carriage. You crashed into Aemond who kept you steady. He gave you a look that you imagined was an attempt at encouragement before seeming to realise he was still holding you by your shoulders and letting you go so that Helena could continue her retreat.
âRidiculous performance.â Alicent complained as she joined the two of you in the carriage. Cole slammed the door shut and shouted for the queenâs guard to escort the carriage back to the keep. She looked over at the both of you and reached across the carriage to touch your forehead. âWe shall be resting today. I do not care what that beast of a man wants. Weâve been out in this heat too long.â
******************
It quickly became obvious why everyone was on edge about the Targaryenâs for Essos. The father, Maehagor Targaryen, was a foul man, rude, lude and greedy. He seemed to be in constant competition with the king, so much so that Daemon was sent for at the request of Viserys who, to you had always seemed rather gentle and kind, had lost his temper one evening due to Maehagorâs comments about bedding Alicent. Daemon responded with a letter refusing to appear until Maehagor returned to Essos. Alicent refused to be alone with him due to his constant remarks towards her and she barely tolerated him during group dinners.
Luckily you didn't have to put up with Maehagor. You did however have to deal with his son, Daelon. At first, he had seemed rather charming and you didnât mind helping entertain him as he joined you and Helena for walks in the Keep gardens or warm afternoons lazed in the cool shade. But once Aegon and Aemond joined the group things changed rather quickly. It seemed that Daelon took after his father in more than just looks. He out drank Aegon and antagonised Aemond so that they argued every time they saw each other.Â
 It was early evening and everyone had reached their limits with the guests. Helena had retreated to her rooms claiming that she needed to rest. The queen had vanished into her rooms as well leaving you with little to do.Â
âAemond?â You asked gently as you found him. He was sitting alone in the courtyard looking up at the Weirwood tree. He glanced towards you and, upon seeing it was you, made little effort to move on the bench he occupied.
âI needed a moment's peace.â He muttered. You walked closer and sat, forcing him to scoot over on the seat.
âWhy does your father not send them home? Everyone is so unhappy.â You asked and he huffed. There was a tense pause before Aemond answered bitterly.
âMy father does not think enough of me to share such decisions.â He stood and then stopped as someone walked to the entrance of the courtyard. Daelon spread his arms wide as he sauntered over to the two of you.
âCousin⌠Are you joining us for the meal this evening.â Daelon immediately turned his attention from Aemond to you. You felt Aemond step closer and his stare fixed on Daelon who seemed unphased.
âI⌠have been invited by her grace, the queen.â You said hesitantly. He smiled and reached out, squeezing your face between his fingers. You winced and tried to pull away but his grip squeezed until Aemond intervened.Â
âYou know perhaps I shall ask my father to have the king give you to me. You will like Essos.â He grinned as he let Aemond pull his hand from your face, turned on his heels and left as quickly as he arrived. You stared after him and blinked a few times.
âAre you alright?â Aemond asked without looking at you. Aemond had always been rather kind to you so it surprised you when you found yourself unable to find words without letting out a small sob and nodding instead. He looked worried as you turned and fled to find Helena.
Dinner quickly approached. Despite her best efforts and objections, Helena couldnât stop you from being herded down to the dining hall. âMother! Grandfather! What he said was upsetting, you cannot expect (Y/N) to join us!â She whined, having given up on all else but their sheer devotion to her.
âHelena I am sorryâŚâ Alicent started. Finding nothing new from her mother Helena whipped her attention solely to her grandfather who seemed rather startled by the girl's ferocity, gentle and nurturing as it was, it was still quite the challenge.
âI have tried to have (Y/N) sit between you and Aemond or next to your mother. I can make no promises though.â Otto admitted. This for the moment placated Helena. She took up your hand and clutched it tightly as everyone filed into the room. You felt the Queenâs nervous grip on your shoulder as she squeezed before letting you go as she moved to be greeted, taking her seat beside the king. Helena rushed you all to your seats, which was met with no objection from Aegon as he liked to be bearishly drunk before even setting eyes on Daelon. Seeing silvery hair from the corner of your eye as you sat beside Helena you turned with a smile to thank Aemond for coming to your rescue in the courtyard only to find Daelon. He had slouched down into Aemondâs seat seconds before Aemond couldsit. Judging from the clutch Otto had on Aemondâs wrist and the way he pulled Aemondâs hand from the back of the chair, Otto had prevented Aemond from tipping Daelon onto the floor.
âWe meet again.â Daelon said. His voice was smooth and charming though it had a tone to it that made you tingle unpleasantly. Making you feel rather like a rabbit who had just realised its companion was a wolf. Your smile became so strange and twisted that even the king glanced at you with a frown. You found that even with your best effort. You could not improve the grimace on your face.
Having spent a long time as Helenaâs most adored guest at the Red Keep you had endured a great many awkward dinners. Though the Targaryen house enjoyed celebrating their triumphs, you were never actually sure if any of them liked each other. This dinner, however, made all of the ones before seem like casual, even joyous occasions.
It began with everyone sitting. After Daelon has stolen Aemondâs seat Otto guided Aemond to sit opposite his mother, he then took up a place at the end of the table leaving a large space beside Aegon on the other side of the king intended for Maehagor.Â
Maehagor, in a moment of great wisdom or madness, decided to squeeze on the corner of the table between Otto and the queen instead.
There were three courses to the meal. During the first Maehagor called Otto an old fool and said that it was his turn to be the hand which was met with a round of awkward laughter. During the second round, the queen accidentally stabbed Maehagorâs leg with her fork when he scooted his chair too close for her liking. At the same time Helena, having been helpfully passing you sauce in a hot serving dish, dropped it on Daelonâs lap which caused him to let go of your hand, which he had taken up and refused to let go of, despite a polite request from you and a rather rude comment from Aegon, hop up from his chair and shout before hurrying out of the room. The final course was never actually served. In fact, the maid that brought it to the table was sent right around the room and back out like an animal on a race track. The poor woman seemed rather glad to flee the room. You were all excused by Alicent who was trying to mediate a fight between the king and Maehagor who began shouting at each other so loudly that Cole had to come in and escort Maehagor out.Â
Having had enough for the evening you slowly made your way to your rooms. The air in the corridors was cool, a light breeze followed you through the halls. The faint sounds of the last birds settling for the night filled the air and you found yourself smiling as you dawdled to enjoy the moment a little while longer. You stopped when you heard low talking. Leaning closer towards the corridor that opened up into a balcony, overlooking one of the courtyards you listened carefully after glancing around to make sure no one would catch you.
âI won't let you.â Aemondâs voice came out sharp and clear.
âLet me. Your father will do anything for us to return to Essos.â You cringed at the sound of Daelonâs voice. Aemond scoffed and there was some shuffling. Curiously you crept round the corner and peaked down into the courtyard. You could see Aemond stepping closer to Daelon in a threatening manner.
âWhy not find yourself some girl in Flea Bottom?â Aemondâs tone was harsh as if he were holding himself back. You couldnât see Daelonâs face but you could see his shoulders move as he laughed.
âYou see it is not the girl I want. Itâs revenge. The moment I set eyes on the two of you I could see it. So I'm going to steal her away from you.â Daelonâs words were sharp and spat out at Aemond who was stirred to anger before you could wonder who they were talking about. Daelon flinched as Aemond swung at him and Cole rushed across the courtyard.Â
âYou will do no such thing!â Aemond shouted as he escaped Cole to dive for Daelon who had laughed as he practically danced his way out of Aemondâs reach.Â
âIâll take all the girls I want. That (Y/N). A fine treat for myself when I return to Essos.â Daelon said wickedly. You felt panic prick you and for a moment you froze.
Had you been foolish enough to believe that your friendship with Helena, that your motherâs friendship with the queen would protect you from the desires of the dragons? Cole glanced up at you as you jumped back to avoid being seen. You werenât sure if he saw you or if he stopped Aemond from swinging again. You had already turned to flee as your mind swam with fear. The king wouldnât really send you to Essos. Not when he went to such great lengths to negotiate with your family to have you stay. But he was the king. Had your father led when he said heâd negotiated? Had the king demanded your presence and it was given? If so⌠would you be able to find a way to avoid being sent off?
The fear of your own thoughts had your breath angrily clawing at your throat as a painful tight feeling built up. Hurrying past the door to your rooms you continued to Helenaâs.
When you reached her rooms you burst in and flung yourself down on one of her bench seats.Â
She fussed while you tearfully tried to explain what was said. Alicent was fetched by one of the maids who, unable to decipher your sobbed distress, were convinced something dreadful must have happened. You faintly heard Coleâs voice as the tear-blurred figure of Alicent hurried towards you, hugging you tightly to her chest as you blubbed and sniffed.
âMother? What happened.â Helena asked after a few moments when she realised that you were too upset to find words that could give her any sense of what youâd gone through.
âFrom what Cole has explained to me⌠Daelon has threatened to take (Y/N) back to Essos with him.â Alicent explained which started you crying again. Helena gasped and clung to you. Alicent had warned you both during the carriage ride home of what she heard Daelon did to his women in Essos. All were dreadful, so much so that Alicent had only informed you of the list of tragic and terrible summing everything else up with a simple warning.Â
When she had managed to calm and settle you Alicent stormed from the rooms. She made her way to the Kingâs quarters, knowing Viserys and her father were still in a deep discussion on what to do if Maehagor decided to stay in Westeros. She threw the doors open, startling everyone who looked overly nervous. When she saw Aemond she understood why.
âAlicent.â Otto said as he gestured to Aemond. His tone was pleading.
âThat is not sufficient!â Aemond bellowed and for a moment she feared that the boy might strike his own father. Alicent raised an eyebrow and stepped forward.
âAemond. Calm yourself.â She cooed but she shook her off. His breath was hard and heavy, his hair tangled and messy. There was a smudge of blood running down from his nose and a wild look in his eye.
âNo! He has admitted what he plans to do! (Y/N) has served our house well. Does that not earn her protection from being sold off to stop someone annoying you?â Aemond barked out. He glared at his father who looked as if he himself thought Aemond might lash out. Viserys eventually held his hands up.
âIf she agrees thenâŚâ Viserys said and glanced at Otto. Alicent scoffed and shook her head as she gripped Aemondâs arm, pulling him back so she could take a turn to unleash her own fury.
âAgrees? She weeps in your daughter's arms for fear of being shipped off across the seas to some dreadful monstrous boy because of a petty rivalry that the two of you have with your kin.â Alicent glared at Viserys and then at Aemond whose expression softened.
âWhat would you have me do?â Viserys asked as if he was at his wit's end. Alicent sighed. She had told Viserys several times what he needed to do.
âSummon them! You know how he feels about Daemon. Demand his presence and Rhaenysâ too. She will keep him in line. We all know Maehagor is afraid of her.â Alicent was stern as she spoke and Otto did his best to agree with her. He had suggested something similar days ago as had most of the council. âYou are the king and you let this man come here and torment your keep.â With that Alicent left, storming from the room with a fury that seemed more ferocious than the fire Viserys was sat before. Aemond hesitated and followed her.
âMother.â He muttered as he hurried to catch up with her.
âYou will need to defend her.â Alicent said as she stopped. She had her back to Aemond and he stopped a few paces behind her, hesitant to approach.
â(Y/N)... IâŚâ Aemond started to say but she turned, gripping him by the shoulders.
âMaehagor is the kind of man who will do anything. You know he has been trying to interfere with your father's rule since it began. He is so shameless he had no choice but to retreat to Essos. His son is worse. (Y/N) is strong and brave. But she is gentle-hearted and sheltered. I swore to her mother I would take care of her. Seven help me if that beast of a man takes her.â Alicent spoke in a harsh tone he hadnât heard for many years. She was almost as furious as she had been the night he lost his eye. It made his stomach turn with nerves.
âDaelon. He said he wants revenge.â Aemond said nervously. She frowned at him and let him go. For a moment, just one, there was a glint of fury in her eyes as if she were accusing him of a great many wrongs. All the ills man had caused her, Helena and you were thrust at him with that look and he withered under the glare.
âRevenge for what?â She asked.
âThere⌠there was a tourney. The one I was in after Rhaenyra left Kingslanding. The one for Aegonâs name day.â He muttered and stared down at the floor. She said nothing and even without looking up he could feel her anger burning into him. âI ignored Coleâs advice to let Daelon win and⌠humiliated him.â
âA tourney⌠I have sworn to defend that girl as if she is my own and she may be snatched from our protection because of a tourney contest between boys!â Alicentâs tone was sharp and Aemond shrank back as if he had been struck. She said nothing more to him, her dress storming around her, whipping the fabric into a furious sea of soft swishing sounds as she furiously walked away.Â
Alicentâs fury remained. So much so that when Daemon and Rhaenyra arrived with their brood of wildlings they had given Aemond sympathetic looks and mildly friendly gestures when they greeted the travellers.Â
You had been summoned to dinner by the king. He had sent Otto himself to invite you along with his word as king that you would be safe. When you walked down the hall two bluish figures seemed to float out of the semi-dark corridors around you and fell into step on either side of you.Â
The Velaryon twins. Stony guards at your side that didnât budge and were so stern in their defence even Daelon kept his distance. Jace hurried forward to help you to your seat and he sat on one side with Baela and Luke sat with Rhaena on the other. Rhaenyra sat with Alicent talking quietly while Daemon watched Maehagor from across the table with a neutral look that made him all the more menacing. Rhaenys sat beside the king while the rest of the family scattered around the table. Helena was opposite you and gave you a hopeful smile. You returned one to her and she beamed in relief.
âThank you.â You said quietly into the air before you. Baela reached over and gently squeezed your arm for just a moment before reaching for her cup while Rhaena smiled to herself and nodded. The meal was consumed with awkward silence. Broken only by murmurs between Otto and Corlys at one end of the table and Rhaenyra and Alicent at the other.
When the meal was finished Daemon loudly dismissed âthe youngstersâ. No one objected though Maehagor clearly wanted to. Luke and Jace rushed to sweep up Daelon in conversation and stopped his approach as Helena joined her Velaryon cousins in hurrying from the room with you.
âI am sorry you were so upset.â Helena said to you as you stopped by her door. She kissed your cheek and hugged you tightly.
âIt is alright Helena. It wasnât your doing. I am grateful forâŚâ You trailed off and smiled awkwardly. You werenât as close with the twins as you were with Helena and you werenât sure if thanking them for their aid would offend them. After all, they seemed like the sort to think defending anyone from the likes of Daelon was part of their duty. Baela, sensing your dilemma cleared her throat before saying.
âWell, Daelon is a beast, more so than Aegon and all who come across him deserve protection of their own.â She spat out Daelonâs name as if it disgusted her to say it. Rhaena shyly agreed with her sister and said their goodbyes to Helena who hurried off into her room to see her children to bed. Aemond approached you shortly after. Baela and Rhaena waited to see if you wanted to speak with him before relinquishing your safety to him.
âI hope you find good rest.â Rhaena said cheerfully to you while Baela and Aemond stared at each other until Rhaena pulled her sister away.
âI am sorry.â Aemond said awkwardly. You frowned then sighed.
âThat your cousin is a beast?â You asked and he chuckled then, quickly, looked rather guilty. He shuffled and fiddled mindlessly with the dragon fastings on his shirt. He walked with you down the corridor, the short distance from Helenaâs door to yours.
âHe would not be so fixated on you if it were not for me.â He stopped outside your door and gave you a rather shameful look.Â
âYour mother said why he was doing this. Because of the tourney. She was very angry about it but mostly because of Daelon.â You explained and he winced. You reached out for his hand but he pulled away slightly. âIt is not your fault he can not let that go.â
âThat is one reason he is interested.â He said quietly and his hands dropped down by his side. You waited, wanting him to go on and explain but Aemondâs mouth was firmly shut and he simply gestured to your door. Realising that for tonight at least there would be nothing more from Aemond you retreated to your rooms.Â
âOh sweet (Y/N)! I am so in love with you that my cousin plans to kidnap you in vengeance for a childhood slight.â Aegon sang out loudly as your door shut and cackled as Aemond turned on him and wrestled him away from your door, his hand over his brotherâs mouth as Aegon continued.
Sebagni hcs that nobody asked for but I will provide:
Sebastian probably fell first, though Agni fell harder
At first noticing his⌠strangely more intense feelings towards Agni, Seb tried to ignore it best he could. This could be seen as weak, something demons are NOT, clearly. Eventually, he comes to terms with it and doesnât think of it as a weakness as much anymore (in his mind it doesnât stop him from performing his duties, so it shouldnât matter)
When Agni realised heâd fallen in love, he basically cried for 3 hours straight out of happiness, and immediately went to tell his prince on how best to confess
Agni is the only human that Seb decently enjoys cooking with, everyone else heâll push out to have the space to himself (cough cough Bard)
When Agni sees Seb having a particularly rough day, heâll give him a thoughtful gift or combine the efforts of the servants to give him a break from chores⌠even if just for an evening
Seb doesnât fluster easily at all, but Agniâs sweet/soft, out of the blue comments just donât mix with his demon brain used to hardcore flirting, so he trips over his words or has to look away⌠small things, but big for him (the servants, especially, have never seen him act like that)
As soon as Soma heard of Agniâs affection towards Sebastian, he was obnoxious about it. Trying to be sneaky by leaving them alone as often as possible, or talking loudly about how amazing Agni is whenever Seb is nearby, or almost confessing to Seb for Agni⌠needless to say, heâs over the moon about it and is very intense
On the other hand, Ciel hardly noticed until Seb almost missed an order from him while engaged in conversation with Agni, and then he loved to tease him about it. Anything used to embarrass or gain the upper hand on Seb is useful, in his mind, so he uses it to his advantage to practically blackmail the demon occasionally (not that he needs to, he just enjoys it, and Seb goes along with it to please him)
Marriage isnât something that really appeals to Seb all that much, but Agni sometimes mentions wanting to get married in passing, and Seb would bring him the universe on a plate if he asked, so he wouldnât mind so long as it made Agni happy⌠besides the âeternal bondâ thing sounds somewhat nice
Sebastian likes his personal space, so itâs a huge sign of trust for him to let someone into his space willingly or see him in a vulnerable way. He appreciates Agniâs respect for boundaries, and so Agni is one of the few people he actually lets be in his personal space and/or see him vulnerably
Classic Sun/Moon dynamic in my opinion
They definitely share recipes from English/Indian cuisine with each other, and Seb sometimes makes Agni some of his comfort foods as a gift
I love the idea that Seb brings little shiny things he finds to the people he loves the most, so when Agni keeps finding coins and other random trinkets in his roomâŚ
If you want more please lmk! I try to keep them within character (to a degree, obviously itâs unlikely any of these would happen) and if you have any requests for other ships for me to do, lmk too. (Also I WILL write a sebagni fic⌠at some point)
Howdy! How would the monkey king get along with a gender neutral y/n who's a transformer that's been stranded in his universe? They're about the size of a shipping container standing up, but they transform into a motorcycle.
I hope this ask finds you well!
ohhhhhhhhhh that is awesome but I do love Transformersđ¤Šđ¤Šđ¤Š
(Lmk Wukong) Oh boi, you are the coolest thing he has ever seen. He heard a loud explosion outside his home, which woke him out of his sleep, and he flew outside to see well what he remembered is a car. Wukong was perplexed along with the other monkeys until you as the car transformed into a large Half Vehicle being that sorta looked like a monkey? Wukong has been around for a long time and has met many people, but he can definitely admit that he's never seen anything like you before. He absolutely thought he was still asleep đ but unfortunately you were stranded and couldn't leave, Wukong felt sympathy and said you can stay with him until
(NR Wukong) He is losing his mind, more than he ever did, and that is saying a lot!!!! He met a lady who could transform into a hot pink motorcycle, and he was floored. He met you one night when he saw a motorcycle and he saw you in your motorcycle form driving by yourself, and he genuinely that he was tripping balls that night but his curiosity got the better of him. With that, he met your big metal female monkey self, granted it's might be weird to date a vehicle, but hey, he probably did weirder stuffđ.
(HIB Wukong) Ok he may not know exactly on what you are but you are definitely caring and helpful to have around especially when youcan take them around places way faster. The children are a little bit Intimidated by you, but your actions quickly show that you were anything but a threat to them. Luier was less scared but way more curious about you and your kind and culture, and Silly girl found you something fun to climb on. Wukong had grew close to you as he knows what it's like to be away from home and promise to help you find a way home. Too bad he was lying about that final part đ¤âşď¸
(MKR Wukong) His curiosity got the better of him, which led to him meeting you for the first time. He saw some strange cart??? That can move by itself at the Matter then saw it turn into a big giant shiny monkey. Wukong was like yup I lost my mind That has to be it, I got zapped one to many times and now I'm seeing weird crap out in the openđ. Wukong quickly learned that you were real and just stranded in the 3 realms, Wukong felt sympathy to he decided to keep you around until he can find a way to get you home. We promised with his fingers crossed đ¤ behind his back.
(Netflix Wukong) he is losing his marbles!!! But like in a good way, he definitely never seen anything like you before. Although he's showed no fear but more excitement, he had a million and one questions about you, where you came from? what are you exactly? how did you get here? He was off the hook and all over you, which made you flattered but also a bit overweight. When he finally calmed down, he found that you couldn't leave the planet, Wukong decided to hang out with you until you could get back on your wheelsđđđđ¤đ¤đ¤.
(BMW Wukong) You are definitely a subject of interest especially since your supposedly since your an alien from outer space. You were stuck on the mortal realm for a few months up until you finally met Wukong, and he was unsure on how to respond to you. Though it didn't stop him from getting to know you and understanding your Species and home. Wukong totally let you stay with him on flower fruit mountain and made sure that you had a wonderful experience, why would you want to go anywhere else especially to your old home.
(Destined one) Staring contest in silence, because he doesn't know what to do other then stare. The Destined one was fascinated by your Species, your kind, your culture, your powers everything. The Destined one was very sympathetic of your situation as he hates to be away from home for way to long, and he Decided to help you with your situation. The best part if it doesn't go as plan you can always stay with him forever, he'll never mind youđđđ.
As Iron Sharpens Iron
"As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another." Proverbs 27:17
Beta-read by @dragonrider9905
Chapter 2:
Previous // Next
Warnings: Jealousy, canon violence.
--------------------------------------------------
Why does she have to come along? You thought bitterly as the ship rattled through the atmosphere.
It was one thing for Phee to come along, but her sister was another story altogether. You had no problem with Phee. Sheâd proven herself to be extremely helpful when things went south; she was fun and easy to get along with.
Tara, on the other hand, though youâd only worked a job with her twice, seemed to be the opposite. She was nice enough and shared her older sisterâs enthusiasm for adventure, but that was where the similarities ended. If Phee was fire, Tara was ice. The others seemed to tolerate her, and you had to admit she was good at her job. Omega enjoyed her stories as much as she did Phee's and for some reason that irked you as well.
She used to come to Hunter for everything.
Hunter and me, you thought bitterly. Lately it was all Tara and Phee who occupied her attentions.
Tara seemed to have a way with people. Sheâd talk someone up, laugh, and bat her eyelashes, then suddenly the datastick - and sometimes their wallet - would find itself tucked away neatly in her pocket or wherever else she could hide it. Phee spoke highly of her. According to Phee, her sister could draw the attention of a target and sweet talk them into giving her information just as easily as she could disappear entirely in a crowded market - stolen information taken without a hitch. Youâd seen the former on the last mission. In just a matter of hours, a few drinks and conversation combined with a pretty dress and tasteful jewelry was all it took for the officer to let slip the location of Cidâs coveted artifact. Even Tech had seemed impressed.
âGood work,â Hunter had said to her, as she made her way back to the ship. His deep, husky voice stirred something inside you even though his words were not directed to you. Youâd seen how sheâd brushed up against Hunter as she passed him by on the way into the ship. Though Hunter had stepped aside and seemed to pay her no mind, you didnât trust her as far as you could throw her.
And with how thin she is, I could probably throw her pretty far, you thought with a smirk that quickly disappeared as you looked up.
Hunter currently stood behind her in the cockpit, hand gripping the back of her chair. Her hair brushed across his fingers as he peered over her shoulder at the datapad in her lap.
The ship shuttered and dropped in altitude, ripping you from the jealous thoughts.
Tech, grappling with the failing controls, glanced over at them saying something you couldnât quite hear over the turbulence.
Another jolt sent you stumbling into a chair, pulling you roughly back to the situation at hand. Hunter grunted at something she said and turned back to the others,
âStrap in,â he commanded, âWeâre in for a rough landing.â
You could feel his eyes burning through the back of your head as you fumbled the straps, clipping yourself into place. Undoubtedly he could sense your discomfort, though you doubted he knew the true cause.
He strapped himself into the seat beside you, placing a hand on your knee.
âRelax,â he whispered, âItâs nothing we havenât done before.â
You froze, staring at his hand on your knee, that strange but familiar warmth burned fiercely through your chest.
He snatched his hand away as though heâd been burned and you found your eyes following the motion as he placed it awkwardly in his lap. He shifted almost immediately to the other seat beside him. Towards her.
The sense of warmth youâd felt evaporated as quickly as it came, replaced with an ache that ran through your body like an icy chill and you shivered.
âThe storm is interfering with the navigation systems,â Tech called out, âI am going to attempt a manual landing.â
âOh boyâŚâ Wreckerâs nervous grip tightened on the shoulder straps that buckled and strained to keep him in place, his fingers finding the well-worn grooves in the metal handle. âWeâre gonna crash! Weâre gonna crash! Weâre gonna crash and die!â he shouted mostly to himself.
You were never sure if he was actually truly terrified or if it was just an involuntary reaction to the adrenaline rush that came with the threat of death.
Probably a bit of both. You found yourself grinning at him, feeling the rush through your own chest - a strange mixture of terror and euphoria that kept you on your toes, ready for anything.
A sharp drop threw you backwards into the seat sending a throbbing ache through your skull, thankfully muted by the protective restraints.
âOw! Kriff!â Wrecker shouted as his head bounced off the wall, his seat too small to adequately protect his large frame. A loud clatter sounded through the ship, adding to the chaotic clamor of the storm outside.
âNo!â cried Tara as the datapad flew from her grasp, sliding across the floor. She reached for her seatbelt.
âLeave it!â Hunter snapped, his hand immediately sliding down to his own safety latch.
Tara shook her head, âWe need that information!â She glared over at the fallen datapad with an unyielding determination as she unlatched her straps and staggered to her feet.
âDonât! Itâs not worth anything to us if youâre dead!â shouted Phee as she too reached for her seatbelt, prepared to retrieve her sister. Tara stumbled against the wall as the ship shuttered, sending the datapad further away. She growled in frustration.
âEverybody stay where you are!â Echoâs voice carried over the cacophony of mechanical failure and falling debris, projecting an air of gravity perfected only by an ARC trooperâs experienced command. Phee removed her hand reluctantly from the latch, teeth on edge as she watched her sister stumble to her knees, fingers barely brushing the edge of the datapad before it violently slid away once more. Tara dove after it.
âAlmost got it!â
âTara look out!â Omega shrieked as Gonky came screaming down the short passageway. In a flash, Hunter was out of his seat, tackling Tara to the ground, curling protectively over her as Gonky smashed into the bulkhead where she had been leaning only seconds before.
The ship spun again and Hunter braced himself against a console, grabbing hold of Taraâs arm, dragging her upwards. The datapad slid over and she reached down, snagging it quickly.
âGot it!â She shouted triumphantly, apparently unphased by the fact that she was nearly killed.
Hunter grabbed the datapad from her hand and tossed it to you with a practiced ease as he turned and latched Tara back into her seat.
You gripped the device tightly, watching intently as anger sparked in Hunterâs eyes.
âDonât ever do that again!â He sank back into his seat and you averted your gaze, staring blankly towards the cockpit where Tech was slowly regaining control of the ship.
âWeâre coming in too fast, Tech!â Hunter warned.
âThen I suggest you brace yourselves!â Tech snapped back, brow furrowed in concentration as he pulled the controls with all his might.
âPull up! Pull up!â shouted Wrecker.
âI. Am. Trying!â Tech grit his teeth.
With one last tug on the yoke, the ship collided with the ground in a wet clatter of fallen tree branches and mud, skidding forward before coming to a roaring halt, just barely missing the edge of a sheer cliff.
Wrecker let out a sigh of relief as he got to his feet, lifting Omega to the ground. You followed Echo as he lowered the ramp and jogged out into the muddy terrain to survey the damage.
He whistled, hand resting on his hip while his scomp arm leaned against the side of the ship. He chuckled, shaking his head as he eyed the mere inches of ground between the end of the ship and the edge of the cliff.
âCutting it close this time, Tech.â
Hunter grinned, clapping him on the shoulder, âHe always does.â
Tech followed him down the ramp, adjusting his goggles, âWe survived, did we not?â
âBarely,â muttered Wrecker as he surveyed the cliff and backed up several feet causing Omega to laugh.
âSee? I told you weâd be fine, Wrecker.â
Pheeâs eyebrows shot up as she joined them on the edge. âWoah! I knew you were good, Brown-Eyes, but this is somethinâ else. Nice landing!â
Tech looked up at her, smiling slightly before turning to glare at his brothers. âAt least someone here appreciates the amount of precision and skill it takes to achieve a landing like this.â
Tara was the last off the ship. You handed her the datapad and she cleared her throat,
âAlright, guys. Weâve got a bit of a ways to go, so we should get moving.â
Echo nodded in agreement as Wrecker picked up his pack.
You blinked, not making any move to grab your own pack. Who died and made you squad leader?
Her knack for seizing control of the situation irked you and you found yourself almost unconsciously spinning around to face her.
âActually, itâs Hunter who gives the orders here, not you.â The words were out before you could even think to stop them. Tara looked surprised. Wrecker froze, pack hanging limply from one shoulder, eyes moving between you, Tara and the rest of the squad. Echo raised an eyebrow. The awkward pause lasted only milliseconds, but to you it felt like an eternity before Hunter stepped in with a sigh, raising a disarming hand. Something indiscernible flashed through his eyes as he looked at you briefly before taking control of the situation.
âTaraâs rightâŚâ
The rest of his words were lost to you as a blazing humiliation burned through your chest, mixing strangely with that cold feeling youâd had before.
He took her side. Though you knew Tara was right, it still hurt. No matter how hard you tried to reason with yourself, no amount of logic could relieve the feeling of betrayal. AND I just made a huge fool of myself. Great jobâŚ.
Wrecker elbowed you, shaking you from your thoughts. Your eyes snapped up and Hunter looked at you expectantly.
âDid you hear anything I just said?â
Kriff. âY-Yeah!â you stuttered.
He didnât look convinced but he continued on, addressing the whole team. âAlright then. Letâs get moving.â
Slinging your pack over your shoulder, you began to follow but a nudge from Echo stopped you. He shook his head, looking you over with evident concern written on his face.
âDid you not hear Hunter? Youâre with Tech and I. Weâve got to get the ship repaired and primed for a quick takeoff.â
âRight,â you could feel your face warm with embarrassment once more, âYeah. Guess we should get working then.â
âYeah.â
Your hands reached for tools, fingers removing and replacing wires, working in a numbing mindlessness on repairs youâd done a thousand times over.
Of course Hunter took her side, idiot! You scolded yourself. She was right. You were wrong.
Tara had her mind on the mission. You had your mind somewhere else, overthinking stupid, impossible scenarios. And yet, you found yourself thinking back to the chaos over and over again - seeing Hunter throw himself protectively over Tara, seeing Hunterâs hand on her arm, hearing his words to her in that deep, authoritative tone: âDonât ever do that again!â
They were the same words heâd spoken to you just two days ago. The same day youâd seen Hunter in the closet with Tara pressed up against him. The worst part was that you werenât even sure they were aware that you saw.
So now everyone thinks Iâm just crazy. How could I have misread everything so badly!? Was I just seeing what I wanted to see when he had me in his arms?
Though you couldâve sworn that the look in his eyes held something special, it was obvious, now more than ever, that you had clearly misjudged.
Can I have an Whitebeard Pirates x Obanaj reader. Like Whitebeard rescued the reader when they were young and the reader reveals to Ace why the keep their face covered.
-You kept to yourself on the ship most of the time, sometimes you would join the others for meals, but most times you chose to either eat in your room or somewhere where it was quiet.
-Many of the members, Whitebeard included, all knew that you were a cautious person, who sometimes came off as cold and crass, insulting others who you felt werenât pushing themselves hard enough.
-This led to a couple of fights, newer members thinking you were cocky, underestimating you due to your size, as you were much shorter than most of the crew, but then you would easily handle business, usually without even drawing your strangely shaped blade.
-Whitebeard knew that you were way stronger than you looked, he had faith in you that you could handle anything you came across.
-He knew that you were a hurt child, you had faced great horrors in your young life, he knew about it, as you had confided in him, as he was the first person you realized you could fully trust.
-Whitebeard knew there would be others that you would come to trust, but it would take time.
-Surprisingly, it was Ace that you told next, after you continuously mopped the floor with him when he first was trying to join the crew and you didnât hold back with your insults.
-However, that only made Ace fight harder and harder and when he was finally was able to get you backed into a corner, thatâs when you got serious, drawing your blade, and kicking his ass again, just without severely injuring him.
-Ace couldnât help but laugh, which surprised you, as you didnât have a Devil Fruit ability, while he did, and you still beat him, âYou sure are impressive Y/N!â
-You couldnât bring yourself to bite back with a normal comment for once, as you were proud of him making you draw your sword. Your snake partner, who was always curled around your neck, could tell that you were happy.
-Ace and you grew close, as the two of you would always fight and throw insults at each other, but in a way, the two of you bonded in that sense, finding kindred spirits with each other.
-Ace was curious as to why you always kept your face covered, at least from the nose down, and he asked you that when he brought a plate over food over to you while you were sitting on the figurehead.
-You held the food for a moment before you sat it down, letting your snake friend eat a bit of it before you reached up and unwrapped the bandages, slowly letting them fall to your lap as Aceâs eyes went wide, seeing your scars as you told the tale of what your family did to you, and what they tried to do to you, had you not escaped when you were a young child.
-Whitebeard was the one to find you and he took you in, training you alongside the others, teaching you how to be a warrior, and teaching you that not all people in the world were bad.
-Ace was appalled, hearing how you had been treated, you had only been a child, but then again, he knew that children were not exempt from the horrors of this world.
-Ace leaned into you, just for a moment or two, silently comforting you which did make you feel a bit weird, there was an unknown warm feeling in your chest, but you didnât dislike it.
-You only ate a few bites, something Ace and others like to tease you about, but you had always had a tiny stomach, you couldnât help it as he polished off the rest of your food, which made you stare at him in slight shock.
-He couldnât help but laugh, âThis is nothing! You should see my little brother Luffy eat, he can eat more than the old man can!â You didnât know if that was impressive or intimidating.
-The two of you remained on the figurehead, exchanging stories of the past with one another, not fighting for once. It felt nice.
Hello Senna! Thank you so much for your request! Thinking about a first kiss with Din really inspired me (how does he hide his face from you and still kiss you? What leads up to the moment?? so many questions!!) and this was the result. There is plenty of yearning and some softness sprinkled in but a little angst too (very happy ending though aghhhdkgj). Thanks again and really hope you like it!! đ¤
A New Dawn
Word Count:Â 5107
Rating:Â General
Summary:Â Travelling through the galaxy with a mysterious nameless and faceless Mandalorian with a reputation as the best bounty hunter in the parsec would probably terrify most people. Instead, over the months you have known Mando, you have discovered his gentler, more affectionate side. Living in such proximity to the man you have an enormous crush on threatens to suffocate you as you determine that he must never find out. But after a job seemingly goes badly wrong on a forest planet, the fear of losing him will perhaps finally be the tipping point for a new dawn in your relationship...
Content Warnings:Â Kissing, bit of angst when there's brief panic for Din/reader's safety (happy ending though!), allusions to violence (canon-typical, nothing descriptive/graphic).
⯠My Masterlist ⯠Read on AO3 âŻ
Upon that fateful day on which you had entered an agreement with a bounty hunter, you had been under no illusions that there would be much unpredictability given his line of work. That there would be periods of isolation when he left you behind in his ship while he went in search of his latest bounty. You could be alone on that ship for weeks; well, save for the big-eared, bug-eyed green baby, whose care you had been entrusted with, by the mysterious man who was your employer. When agreeing to travel with The Mandalorian, you had expected the randomness of the path that you cut through the galaxy, journeying from planet to planet depending on his latest jobs. The anguish that came with wondering where he was and whether the jobs were going well as you sat in the Razor Crest and cared for his child. Despite how much it had bothered you at first, you had gradually become used to such emotions. You expected them.
What you had never expected was the fondness you had developed for the man.
The first few times that Mando had headed off the ship for a job, you had been almost nonchalant about his absence, barely noticing the passage of time. You passed your days playing with The Child when you were not fast asleep in your bunk. But slowly and surely, he had begun to mean something more to you. You noticed it in his absence most of all. The ship felt empty without his deep voice and you missed his calm, reassuring presence.
It was strange really, considering that you had never laid eyes upon him. In fact, you had rarely seen him dressed in anything less than his full armour, complete with all the weapons he attached to himself almost ritualistically, without fail, every single day. Even if you were merely hurtling through hyperspace, he was still armed to the teeth. Mando had explained that weapons were part of his religion and his armour was like a second skin to him. You were curious, but not judgmental, about his way of life. It was vastly different to your own and entirely contradictory to anything you had ever heard about Mandalorians before. Even the scant information you had overheard about the formidable warriors in the miserable Cantina where you had once been employed had never included anything about Mandalorians being forbidden from removing their helmets in the presence of others.Â
Mando had made it abundantly clear, before you ever stepped foot aboard the Razor Crest, that wearing his helmet was a definitive boundary, never to be questioned or pushed. It was his ultimate line in the sand that you were never to cross. You were respectful of his Creed, asking questions with a curious rather than invasive intention which he seemed to appreciate. In fact, rather than driving a wedge between you, his Way had provoked many thoughtful conversations between the two of you.
There were nights you would sit in the cockpit as the brilliant blue trails of hyperspace surrounded you, bonding over your similar pasts. Sometimes, you would wake up in the bunk underneath the tiny hammock that belonged to The Child with no memory of clambering in the previous night. He never admitted it, but you were almost certain that Mando had carried you there himself, putting his impressive physique to use for something other than hauling bounties back to the Razor Crest.Â
Amongst it all, you had learned his habits and quirks. You learned the way he liked his caf in the morning. How meticulous he was with polishing his armour until it gleamed so brightly, even in the dark of hyperspace, that you could see every detail of your reflection, right down to your pores. You discovered that he cleaned his weapons, taking them apart and checking every inch of them when he was particularly stressed or his bounties were not as straightforward as he had hoped.Â
Most of all, you discovered how incredibly kind and caring the man beneath the hard, intimidating armour truly was.
Although he had weapons strapped to every inch of his body, Mando could be impossibly gentle. You had witnessed evidence of his ruthless efficiency when he returned to the ship laden with several bounties. Sometimes alive, sometimes dead, though he usually prevented you from seeing the more grisly sights. Yet the man you saw most often of all, moving around the Razor Crest with you as you hurtled around the galaxy, amongst the stars was different to reconcile with the violent nature of his profession.Â
It was difficult to believe that the hands that had earned him the reputation as the most formidable bounty hunter in the parsec due to their proficiency in neutralising even elusive targets were the very same hands that were impossibly gentle when placing The Child in his hammock. The same hands that had extinguished countless lives had been used to rock the little one after he awoke from the nightmares that frequently plagued him. Nightmares that plagued Mando, too. But you had never been bold enough to bring up the tossing and turning you had heard from his bunk pretty much every night since you had started travelling with him. Despite the relatively personal conversations and information you had gleaned from him, it still felt a step too far. You didnât want to cause him to shut down by prying, especially not after he had seemed to become genuinely comfortable in your presence and show you the gentler side of his nature.Â
You felt so privileged to see such a side to him. It was a side that you had never expected to witness. After all, you had been utterly terrified the first time you encountered him, when he strutted into the run-down Cantina you worked in. He was impossible not to stare at, clad in that unpainted armour that glinted when the light hit it in just the right spot. You had never seen a Mandalorian in the flesh before, but you had heard plenty of legends about them. Mandalorians were famed across the galaxy for their ruthless, lethal accuracy and formidable fighting skills.Â
That feeling of gratitude had soon developed into something else, though. A feeling that you would class as affection, albeit affection that was veering dangerously close into the territory of a four-letter word that your mind could not even contemplate. A feeling that would be all too dangerous to harbour for a man who you still felt you knew so little about.Â
You were certain that your feelings for Mando were doing untold damage to your health. Living in such proximity to a man you harboured a devastatingly intense crush towards would one day succeed in suffocating you. Your chest ached whenever he was near, knowing that there was no possibility he could ever reciprocate your feelings. You knew that your love would remain unrequited. Above all, you knew that he must never, ever discover the depths of your affection towards him.Â
There were more than a few times you had dissolved into tears during a few moments of solitude in the âfresher; your salty tears mixing with the hot jets of water from the Razor Crestâs shower. One particular occasion, when your feelings had left you particularly devastated, was the evening when Mando had returned from his latest job, during which he had to terminate the asset after one escape attempt too many. The assetâs termination would result in a lower fee and you knew that was partially the reason for Mandoâs frustration. Yet, despite his reputation, you also knew that he did not relish killing bounties, much preferring to lure them back to the ship and freeze them in carbonite. In everything you knew about him, it appeared that Mando did not get a particular thrill from killing people that he, personally, had no qualms with. Although you knew that if anyone ever threatened even one white hair on the wrinkled little head of The Child, Mando would not hesitate to cut them down where they stood.Â
That evening, The Mandalorianâs exasperation had been evident from the second he had returned to the Razor Crest, ordering you and The Child to hide in the cockpit while he stored the remains so you would not have to witness such a gruesome sight. You knew immediately that the job had not been easy and your heart ached for him. When Mando had given you the all-clear, you had descended the ladder down to the main hull of the ship with shaky hands and legs. Your trembling limbs did not come from the fact you were descending the rungs one-handed and carefully cradling The Child in your other arm, you were well used to that. No, you were dreading seeing Mando so frustrated⌠because of the way it made you feel. Seeing him so wound up, knowing that you were the one to put his pieces back together in your own subtle way thrilled you. It was a dangerous prospect.Â
âI take it the job wasnât successful?â You questioned, tone neutral. You attempted to appear as nonchalant as possible as you handed The Child to him. You hoped that taking the little one in his arms would go some way to calming him down.
âNo,â Mando responded, definitively. His tone of voice made it abundantly clear that he did not want to discuss the matter further with you.Â
âPerhaps I could put The Child to bed, while you take a shower?â You offered, wanting to do anything to soothe his frayed nerves.Â
Mando shook his head.Â
âIâll do it, thanks,â he added gruffly.
You nodded before turning your back and climbing the ladder back up to the cockpit to give them their space. There was hardly any privacy in a ship so compact. Sometimes it could feel slightly claustrophobic aboard the Razor Crest, but you and Mando had worked a pretty good system out by now so you did not feel as though you were constantly on top of each other. You learned that he was a surprisingly patient man and did not express his anger in the way one might have expected from one capable of so much violence.
It was no surprise when you descended the rungs a while later to find him standing in front of the weapons cabinet, broad shoulders tensed as he examined his impressively-stocked armoury. You didnât say a word, wondering whether he was about to tell you to return to the cockpit and leave him alone. Though you hoped that he would interpret your presence as a comforting one, not an invasive one.Â
âCould you pass me the cleaning cloth, please?â Mando asked.
âOf course,â you replied, opening the crate where he kept his cleaning equipment. You selected the cloth that you knew he favoured and handed it to him, the corners of your lips curving upwards in a slight, shy smile.Â
âThank you,â Mando said appreciatively as his gloved hand rested on your upper arm and squeezed it gently. You sensed that he was thanking you for much more than passing him the cloth. Something about his touch and the way he said it had sickened you to your core.Â
âIâm gonna take a shower,â was all you managed to say, before you turned away from him.
You had practically sprinted to the âfresher then, needing privacy more than anything as you crumbled. As tears streamed down your cheeks, you tortured yourself over and over asking the same question:
How could a man capable of such violence be so gentle with you?Â
Your soul was truly tortured by the feelings that you held for this man.Â
It was that moment you thought of now. A moment amongst many others, as you sat and waited for Mando to return from his latest assignment. You were accustomed to days turning to weeks and weeks even turning to months on the rare occasion. It was a solitary experience, just you and The Child in the Razor Crest. You would not see another life form for weeks. Nor would you speak to anyone other than The Child. You weren't always certain whether he understood you. Mando always left a comlink with you, but it was reachable only by him. It was strictly for emergencies. In all the months that you had travelled with him, it had never once sounded when he was off on a mission. It had led you to wonder whether it even worked at all.
Occasionally, Mando would permit you to leave the ship but on particularly hostile planets, you were confined to the silver hull of his home, with just your ration packs and the mysterious green child for company.
This particular planet was one of such peril. Thus, Mando had forbidden you from leaving the ship. Although you always respected his demands, for The Childâs as much as your own sake, you adored the little guy, the loneliness was beginning to eat into your gut and make you feel grouchy after such a long period of isolation. Mando had told you that he expected the job to last no more than three days, but it was ten since he had crept out in the dead of night, armed to the teeth in pursuit of a crime lord who had made one enemy too many.Â
As you lay back on the bunk, thinking of the man who had unexpectedly left such a deep impression on your heart, The Child began mewling. You instantly sat up, sighing softly as you reached into his hammock and stroked the end of one of his large green ears between your thumb and forefinger.Â
âWhatâs up, buddy?â You questioned, rocking him gently and hoping that you had prevented him from dissolving into gut-wrenching sobs.
The Child just gazed at you with his big brown eyes, expression unreadable.Â
âDo you want something to eat?â You asked, often knowing that the way to soothe his heart was through his stomach.Â
The Child finally gave some indication of what was wrong with a small nod and you opened the door to the bunk and made your way towards the fortunately still well-stocked cupboards. Fortunately, Mando was fastidious in always ensuring there was enough food for the two of you. You appreciated that all the more as you gave The Child a bar which he wolfed down in only a couple of bites, despite his tiny frame. He had been fed barely an hour ago, but the little guy had a voracious appetite.
With a newly full stomach, you hoped that the little womp rat would finally get some sleep when you returned him to his hammock. Yet, as you lay back on your own bunk, you found that you could not settle.
Time became an illusion after so many days cooped up in the Razor Crest and despite the late hour, according to your chrono, you found that you were wide awake. There was nothing to do except pace around the Crest.Â
You must have paced around the Crest enough times to cover the circumference of the planet when you were finally on when a sound caused you to stop in your tracks. It sounded like a faint crackle from where your comlink rested on some crates, forgotten and discarded. Until now. You barely had time to react before it chirped into life, with the sound of a familiar deep voice crackling slightly suddenly blaring from it.
Mando was calling your name.
You darted across the hull and scooped up the comlink from its position on top of the very crate from which you had fished out cleaning supplies. You were startled by the fact that Mando was actually using it.Â
âItâs Mando,â he panted, tone desperate. âListen, things arenât looking good. If Iâm not back by sunrise, take The Child and run. Promise me, youâll get out of there. Promise mââ
Before Mando could finish and much less, could you even respond, the line went dead.
You stood there, startled by the turn of events. Your mind racing with thoughts. Where would you go? Which supplies should you pack? How far away was sunrise from now? Could you even use a blaster to shoot an enemy down, if needed? What were you going to do without Mando? How would you take care of The Child alone?
You wanted to sink to your knees, shout and scream. That was not an option. You knew that you had to keep going. Mando had wanted you to vow to him, which you would have done in a heartbeat had the line not first been cruelly cut. Even if he could not hear you, you still wanted to pledge your word to him.
âI promise Iâll protect The Child, Mando,â you whispered, clutching the comlink to your chest as tears streamed down your cheeks silently and the realisation that you could find yourself alone in the galaxy once more dawned upon you.Â
You spent the next couple of hours packing and then repacking as many bags as you could manage to carry and pathetically practising gripping a blaster. Mando had demonstrated once or twice, in case you ever found yourself in a bind. You were certainly in one now, but the adrenaline coursing through your body made it near impossible to remember such careful, deliberate instructions. You contemplated the fact that he had chosen you for a reason, to care for The Child. Whatever such a reason was, it seemed futile now. You were in no fit state to care for anyone.
The guilt threatened to overwhelm you as you spent a few precious minutes watching The Child sleep, blissfully unaware of the anguished state his caregiver was currently in. Your heart ached for him. The bond he shared with Mando was something beyond words and you knew he would be devastated. How could you manage to take care of a distraught child and keep him safe from the same evil forces that had taken his father?Â
You checked your chrono, heart sinking as you realised how close sunrise now was. Your heart thundered in your ears as you ascended the ladder for what was almost certainly the last time, your head peeking over the floor of the cockpit as you saw the pitch blackness of night gradually giving way to the lighter shade of blue that indicated that sunrise was imminent. As soon as the sky was flecked with oranges and pinks, you knew you had to obey Mandoâs command and leave.Â
You imagined him, frightened and injured, stumbling his way through the thick trees you could just about see from the cockpit, desperately fighting to return to you. You willed him on, hoping against all odds that he would make it back to you, safe and sound. You would berate him for putting himself into such a dangerous position. Then, you would piece him back together and prepare him to do it all over again. You were hopelessly devoted to him. Now, such devotion had placed you in this position. Alone, once again.
Alas, despite a valiant effort, Mando's return was not to be. He had tried his best, but it was not good enough. When the sky blazed brilliant bronze, you knew it was time to go.Â
You descended the rungs for the last time, bidding a silent farewell to the ship where you had found so much happiness with such an unlikely companion and his even unlikelier son. You felt a lump in your throat, your eyes filling with tears as the finality of the moment dawned on you. Then, you exhaled and pushed your shoulders back, imagining yourself wearing armour like Mando. You had to do it, for him. You had to grant his dying wish. You had to be brave for The Child.
You were only two paces from the bunk when you heard it. The unmistakable whirring of the Razor Crestâs door opening. It was a sound that usually signified Mando's return. This time, though, it signified your imminent demise.
You were frozen to the spot, then. You were certain that the forces that had gotten to Mando were now here to finish you and The Child off, too. You contemplated reaching for the blaster that was in the bags just a few steps away, but you knew it was futile, given your inexperience. The forces that had murdered your Mandalorian would make short work of someone as inept as you. The best you could do was give yourself up, so that The Child may live. Hopefully, he would be undetected in his bunk, sleeping soundly despite the bloodshed just a few paces away.
You shut your eyes and thought of Mando, wondering if you were about to join him. You braced yourself for a blaster shot that never came. For it was not the alien sounds of a mysterious, threatening entity that your ears detected emanating approaching your position. No, it was not that at all.
Instead, you stood there, aghast as the familiar heavy, even thuds and slight clinking of armour echoed with every step up the ramp of the Razor Crest. The reassuring sound finally reached through your frayed nerves and your eyes flew open as you spun around in disbelief. This was not the end. There was no threat. Instead, there was an instantly familiar sound, one that you had feared you would never hear again. The noise signalled to you that somehow, against all odds, he had returned to you.
âMando?â You questioned, momentarily terrified that an enemy holding a blaster would appear into view behind him.
âSorry about that,â Mando huffed and you realised that particular fear was unfounded. âJob got a bit messier than I anticipated.â
The only indication of the gravity of his situation that had necessitated his desperate message was the evidence of numerous blaster shots that his armour had clearly taken, given the black marks on its otherwise pristine surface. The corners of your lips curled up in a knowing smirk. You knew he would spend most of your journey to the next planet cleaning every single plate with painstaking attention to detail.Â
âBut th-the you used the comlink?â You stuttered, aghast at his sudden appearance in the Razor Crest.
âI did,â he confirmed. âAnd were you about to leave?â Mando asked as he entered the ship and approached you. You were unable to reply with words, suddenly feeling incredibly choked up. You nodded and gestured towards the bags you had hurriedly packed.
âGood,â Mando nodded approvingly.
âI thought you wereâŚâ you shook your head, unable to finish that sentence and vocalise the dark places your mind had travelled.
âDead.â Mando finished for you.
You nodded again. You would almost be amused by his familiar bluntness were you not still so shocked by his presence.
âI had sharper reflexes,â he shrugged cockily, a simple explanation for events that you were sure were far more complex than he was letting on.
âI thought I was alone. I thought I⌠I thought Iâd have to leave here and never see you again,â you stammered, voice cracking at the thought. âDid you at least complete the job?â
âYes,â Mando nodded. âProof of termination was sufficient and I acquired it,â he explained, deep voice slightly hoarse thanks to the force that he had undoubtedly exerted in completing such a perilous job.Â
âI donât know if I want to kill you, or kiss you right now,â you sighed, shaking your head in disbelief at his accomplishment. Then, the realisation that you had finally given voice to your most intimate thoughts dawned on you. You clapped your hand over your mouth, eyes widening in horror. You were utterly mortified.
Mando was unmoving, which only added to your panic. You noticed the way his hands clenched into fists briefly and he sighed deeply. Then he tilted his head slightly and unclenched his fists.
âClose your eyes,â Mando commanded.Â
Although his voice was quiet, something about the way he said it struck fear into your heart. There was a darkness to his voice, to his tone that terrified you. You were certain that he was going to punish you for such a remark. You had always been slightly afraid of him despite the gentleness he had shown you. Now, it appeared that those lingering fears were well-founded. He was probably disgusted by you. He had taken you in when you were at your lowest, given you a job, a bunk and a purpose.Â
Yet, he had unknowingly given you so much more than that. It didnât matter anymore, though. Especially not now that you had let your feelings get the better of you. You were convinced that he was going to kick you out, convinced that there was absolutely no possibility that he reciprocated your feelings for him. Mando hated you. You were certain of that. Â
âMando, Iâm sorry. I didnât meaââ you stammered, eyes still widened in horror.
The presence of soft leather against your skin abruptly cut your frantic apologies off, mid-utterance. His glove was warm across your forehead, nose and cheeks as his hand dwarfed your features. The loss of vision that came with his gloved hand covering your eyes stopped all coherent thoughts in your brain. The hiss of his helmet depressurising, a sound you had previously heard only through the door of the âfresher, made your heart quicken until it was beating with alarming speed. Then, the feeling of his soft lips moving gently against yours caused it to stop completely.
You were struck by two things. Firstly, the fact that the man you had been certain was dead, was not only very much alive but was presently moving his lips against yours. Secondly, underneath his helmet, Mando apparently kept a moustache. You could feel the bristles of his facial hair tickling slightly as his lips claimed yours in a tender kiss.
You were certain that your heart was going to give out if your knees did not first, momentarily fearful that you would send the pair of you crashing in a tangle of limbs to the hard, metallic surface of the Razor Crestâs floor with a thud. Fortunately, you happened to be kissing the most formidable bounty hunter in the parsec, who soon wrapped his spare arm around your waist and demonstrated, in the way that he held you, all the strength and certainty that had gained him such a reputation. You smirked against his lips as the hand that was not currently covering your eyes trailed up your back, travelling across your body over the coat that you had pulled on in preparation for your imminent departure from the Razor Crest.Â
The movement of your lips together was electrifying. It confirmed that the connection you were certain had been building between the two of you was real. It felt so natural, as though you had always been destined to be pulled into each otherâs orbits in this way. You felt chills traverse your skin as your brain perceived the scent of his glove, given its proximity to your nose. At once, you could smell the story of his perilous brush with death. There was the distinctive smoky scent of explosions, the sharp metallic smell from his ever-steady grip on his blaster, the earthy undertones â no doubt thanks to days of traipsing through undergrowth, â the musky smell that was unmistakably masculine, unmistakably him and finally, the faint hints of leather. As you registered each scent, you were reminded, once again, of the lethality this man was capable of. A man who was currently kissing you with such fondness and affection.
When your lungs started to burn â from the exhilaration or oxygen deprivation, you werenât sure â Mando finally pulled away, leaving you breathless and dizzy from the events which had just transpired between the two of you. You smiled and bit your lip in glee, as the realisation of the monumental shift in your relationship that had just occurred hit you. You hoped it had not been a one-off, a fleeting moment of carelessness on his part that he would come to regret.
âYou couldnât kill me anyway,â Mando whispered, his breath hot against the shell of your ear. You were stunned. Clearly, that was not the case. This had been a deliberate, measured action on his part.
Then, the tell-tale hissing sound indicated that Mando had replaced his helmet. You couldnât help the fact that your heart dropped a little at the sound. After all, despite how much you respected his devotion to The Way, there was always a simmering curiosity about his appearance. Especially having just kissed him. You could still feel the slight scratchiness that lingered on your skin from the bristles of his facial hair, a ghost of the kiss you had just shared; a reminder that it had happened.
Mando removed his hand from your eyes and you mourned the loss of contact, having relished the way that his hand had engulfed your face with its enormous size as it drowned your features. He always seemed to be everywhere, a looming presence over you.
âMando, I ââ you began, but he raised the same gloved hand that had just rested against your forehead, cutting you off once again.
âMy name is Din,â he said quietly before he lowered his hand again.
âOh,â you breathed, stunned that he had entrusted you with such a precious piece of information.
Although, given the fact that he had just kissed you, perhaps it was a logical step. Nevertheless, you appreciated the fact that you finally had a name to put to the deep voice you adored. Din, not Mando, was the man who had just stolen all rational thought from your mind with the gentle touch of his lips.
You smiled then, the first genuine smile that had graced your features since Din had left the Razor Crest ten days previously. Only a few minutes ago, you had feared that he would never return. Now, just when you had been certain your life with him was over, it appeared that it was just beginning.
As the sun rose over the Razor Crest, still surrounded by the trees of the forest planet you had been certain would be the location of an ending, it was clear that a new dawn was here for you and Din. A beginning was upon you, the start of something beautiful.
It was the first kiss you had shared with Din. But you were certain that it would not be your last.
I almost don't wanna make this post bc I feel like it will be misinterpreted, but I've been thinking about the odd sort of double standard in specifically the danny phantom fandom, where the most popular thing (bafflingly, to me, given canon, but I won't digress) is to write/draw about a 14-year-old boy being mutilated, tortured, dismembered, vivisected, and generally brutalized, BUT,
if people try to ship him with, say, Vlad, suddenly that's a step too far
TO BE CLEAR I AM NOT DEFENDING THE SHIP. I do not like it, it skeeves me out, I've blocked people on sight for shipping it, I've gotten into heated debates with other folks in the fandom about it, you can ask like anyone and they'll back me up on this lol
MY POINT is that I find it so strange that one of these things (shipping a 14-year-old with an adult) is seen as abhorrent and heinous, whole the other thing (brutally torturing, mutilating, and traumatizing a 14-year-old for our Amusement) is A-OK and is in fact the most popular activity in the fandom đ
and some of this shit is DARK! the few times I've poked into the dark fics in the fandom, especially the more popular/well-known/infamous ones, some of them have made me feel genuinely nauseated (and horror is like, my favorite genre for writing lol!!!!!!!)
I'm very curious about this phenomenon because I think it says something interesting about the old 'differentiating between fiction and reality' conversation that comes up every time dark fic/fic that features taboo elements is mentioned. Am I intelligent enough to articulate what that something is? Probably not lol
Although I do think a factor is that one of the situations in question is much less likely to happen to real kids and teens, but again I'm not intelligent enough to put into actual specifics why/how much that might matter.
idk!!!! I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions about this, cause it's def something that's been percolating in my brain
#danny phantom#but also other fandoms too#dp is just the only fandom with this phenomenon I have experience with#it feels very much like that 'I can excuse racism but I draw the line at animal cruelty' meme to me lol
