IMO Hussie trying to tighten up the copyright for Homestuck in the buildup to writing and producing a Homestuck TV show makes perfect sense. For Hussie to be able get any potential distributors/publishers on board, she is going to have to be able to tell them with full confidence that she has the distrubition rights to Homestuck to give them in the first place. And THEN if Hussie and the HICU let the copyright of Homestuck slip after the TV show has a publisher, that could give said publisher the opportunity to swoop in and claim said copyright for themselves! And making a very similar mistake with Viz Media is what left the Homestuck IP in the disasterous place it ended up in that made the Unoffocial Collection necessary in the first place.

I don't think it's fair to frame the legal action around the distribution of Homestuck's assets as a petty or unnecessary given that context. IP law sucks and its enforcement is always uncomfortable at best and we all hate it, but I really doubt that Hussie wants to be playing this game either given their previously expressed general attitude towards the relationship between creator and audience.

I was debating whether or not to post the sequel online. I thought maybe the sequel would be the motivator for people to buy the hard copy, but I already have mixed feelings about selling fanwork, so I’m gonna go ahead and post the sequel here.

That said, purchasing a hard copy helps me out. I’m hoping to put the money towards some color risograph zines that I can take to an upcoming comix convention.

I’m putting the sequel under a cut because, while it doesn’t contain explicit imagery, it does involve discussion of a parent making inappropriate/incestuous comments towards a child.

the unofficial homestuck collection is still available for download. it's right there when you google it

vivzie is the executive producer of the show. she isn't listed as a writer, artist/animator, or director

as executive producer, vivzie is presumably is in charge of hiring people, but notably there is a voice director separate from her (richard horvitz) that will most likely be in charge of casting

the director is skye henwood; she is an animation director and writer at spindlehorse

the hiveswap act 3 team and the show team are largely made up of different people (there are exceptions ofc such as andrew presumably overseeing both things because it's xeir story), their productions likely don't affect each other

we are getting more hiveswap news in october

the homestuck website is still being worked on (quote from james on july 1st: "I’m happy to announce that we should hopefully be operational again pretty soon, so please stay tuned for that and we’ll keep you updated when it’s finally back up and running.") i could have sworn he named a specific guy from the hsbc web development team who was working on it but i can't find the exact source for this at the moment. so the show does not impact this project either

Did anyone ever like attempt to document and compile the variations of Barney the dinosaur murder ballads across the elementary school system in the early 2000s. Like legit it has always fascinated me as a phenomena and I would love to know if there were like traceable regional variations or what.
