love how the older skaters in the senior division give Yurio encouragement and that each time it pisses Yurio off. JJ is intentionally condescending so that makes sense, but with Viktor and Yuuri they're not even being condescending. Yurio's just dialed in on being a hater... and i love that for him <3
#'plot twist i LOBV you' -Yuuri#'i am going to skin you alive' -Yurio#yuri on ice#sometimes he is a teenager#he's got so much fury in his tiny body. and yet he is also just an earnest lad. i find him sooo funny silly#which he would hate me for!!#I recall a meta post about Otabek being the first one to verbally recognize how hard Yurio devotes himself to skate and I really dig that#like I think Yurio's frustration is justifiably rooted in how little others take him seriously despite his life-consuming dedication#I DO think he is over the top and i enjoy this; for it is entertaining.#but i also think his feelings are genuine and he is a complex little guy.#i'm thinking of him sharing his grandpa's food with Yuuri and being emotionally vulnerable with him at the waterfall#Yurio is a hater on his opponents (and Viktor) but I think on some level he recognizes the genuine care Yuuri+Viktor show him#I think Yurio doesn't understand how they can be encouraging to him while also taking him seriously#Cuz Yurio is so wary of his elders dismissing him#so older skaters being friendly translates in his head as 'they dont think i can beat them / they dont see me as an equal'#But I think when these relationships are removed from that competitive atmosphere Yurio DOES see how they care and he appreciates it.#It would be so sweet to see an older Yurio reflect on this time and realize that Viktor + Yuuri + others DID take him seriously#and just because they were fond of him it doesnt mean they didnt appreciate his talent.#tbh being a young athlete must be such a mindfuck and idk how these bitches do it. send tweet#yuri plisetsky#yoi meta#queue#my words#AWW right after writng this i watched the part where Yurio starts yelling encouragement to Yuuri#who internally tells himself 'i got more stamina than that fuckin Yurio mf' (paraphrasing lol)#they switched love languages <3 cheerleader & hater role reversal

Just don't ask me how that huge plush was thrown there
Under the cut, things I imagine in YOI pre-canon, with the ways my thoughts tie into canon to explain why I think them. These are personal headcanons and interpretations.
With Viktor, I imagine his family being high achieving, and Viktor having a lot of expectations on him. And he matches then successfully. But this means his parents think he's doing well, even in moments where emotionally he isn't. They look at achievements rather than looking at him. It's not intentional neglect, they just don't have the awareness of mental wellbeing. He has a bed and food and he's doing well in school and skating, so everything must be okay. It's fine when he's fine, it's lonely when he's not. And it's the first environment that teaches him to match himself to what's expected and wanted of him, fulfilling a role rather than just being.
When he's older, he quietly creates distance. Not cutting them off, but not reaching out. They don't mind. They follow news, and they can show off his success.
When he's young, Viktor loves having fans and being known and admired. Af first he doesn't see downsides to it. And then something happens, as simple as "did you see him throwing the flower at Christophe Giacometti? He was flirting, how cute" - and Viktor realizes his fans will draw their own conclusions and won't believe him if he tries to say they're wrong.
So he starts adjusting his approach. Building a persona, and building walls. Charming smiles that get him anything he wants. Practicing the skill of giving people what they expect. Being what they expect. And then flipping it on its head and surprising them.
If you're focusing on matching and subverting expectations, you're not necessarily being yourself. Any personal exploration of identity is hidden and alone. But on the ice, when he's performing, he can be honest. He can be seen. Because they're going to take it as fake. Think of how Minako reacted to Stammi Vicino - Viktor's earnest plea for someone to stay by his side, well, he's too charming for this to tug at the heartstrings. So he can play with stories that he won't share with anyone any other way, and he knows they'll take it as pretend.. The walls he builds don't allow him to be truly close to people. He has good relationships with other skaters, but emotionally keeps them at arm's length. He doesn't notice he's isolating. Chris and he have fun joke-flirting, but when Viktor steps away from the ice Chris doesn't seem to realize he needs this, isn't close enough to know what he's struggling with. He talks like Viktor is taking away the motivation he's entitled to by choosing to coach Yuuri. His rinkmates see him on good and bad days so they know when he struggles, and Yakov is the only person close to knowing him deeply, but even he doesn't take it seriously when Viktor burns out, so that is still limited.
For Yuri, I think his mother was going through a lot to let his grandfather take care of him. He has a lot of responsibility in that setting, and it all starts when he's so young.
I think, with Viktor being present in his life consistently from such a young age, Viktor is one of the people he sees as family. He absolutely looks up to him, just like he absolutely looks up to Yuuri. And I think he resents the emotional distance Viktor maintains.
He's not very attentive to people in general, but he's the one that explains to us how Viktor feels early in the show. When Viktor left to Japan so suddenly, I think Yura felt abandoned beyond just Viktor forgetting to choreograph a program for him. If it was just the program - he did end up getting Agape, he could have just asked for that, but he tried to get Viktor to go back. I feel like he hates that Viktor went to look for a way to get his spark back somewhere else, instead of staying and finding a way out of his slump with his rinkmates. If what Viktor needs is to coach someone, why isn't Yuri good enough? He's a talented skater and he sees himself as continuing Viktor's legacy, but Viktor chose someone else for that role.
And Viktor did choose Yuuri to continue his legacy. Because Yuuri skates so beautifully, because Yuuri has so much love for Viktor's skating, because Yuuri has drive and ambition and pride and skill and he finds joy in skating, and Viktor wants to nurture all of that into the performance Yuuri deserves to show.
And along the way, he learns how to connect with people as himself. His relationships with Yuuri and Yuuri's family open doors for him to better and deeper relationships with Yuri and Chris and anyone else he wants to be close to.
About Yuuri, there's very little I can say because we know so much. So I'll just share a lighthearted headcanon a few friends and I came up with as a story idea and I just adopted.
I don't share the fanon that Phichit got him into pole dancing. In my mind, he either started himself, or it was Chris - unintentionally. I think they're friends, because of how Yuuri reacted to him in the show, like he's used to him. And I like to think Chris kept saying things that made Yuuri feel competitive. Talking about how it's great for core strength, "but it's probably not your thing." Sent pictures of himself performing difficult moves, and got pictures back because Yuuri was trying to match him or do more difficult things than him. And meanwhile Chris thinks they're showing off to each other for fun. It's how Chris knew Yuuri can keep up with him at the banquet.
I still want to write something for that last bit.

Digital TV Guide, April 2024 Issue ft. Iuchi Haruhi Interview (translation below)
Publication: February 24, 2024
Iuchi Haruhi -BoonRed's design leaves an impact!-
Iuchi Haruhi plays the role of Taiya Hando (BoonRed) in "Bakuage Sentai Boonboomger." We asked the 19 year old about his enthusiasm for playing the lead role in the historic Super Sentai series.
"How did you feel when it was decided that you had been chosen to appear in the show?"
Iuchi: I went to the office after I received a call from my manager saying, "I'd like for us to talk face to face," and while making small talk, he suddenly said, "You've been chosen to appear as Red in the new Sentai." It didn't seem real at first, it felt as if I was listening to the decision that my friend had been picked, and that I wasn't involved. I played multiple roles at the audition, not just Red, so it didn't really feel as if I had been chosen as Red.
"What kind of character is Taiya Hando, who you were chosen to play?"
Iuchi: He's a genius in development and modification, is wealthy, and has a passionate heart but doesn't show it. Boonboomger is initially made up of three members, Red, Blue and Pink, but he's the most mentally mature out of all of them. However, I couldn't express it well at first, as Director Nakazawa Shojiro, who was in charge of episodes 1-3, always just told me to, "Up your mentally. Be less childish." I have the image that he's 5 years older than my actual age. It's difficult, but I think I'm gradually becoming able to express this, and I get the feeling that I'm starting to grasp Taiya's character of being "calm but not cool."
"Please tell us your impressions of BoonRed's design, Taiya's form after transforming."
Iuchi: I thought, "They're going with this, huh?" (laughs). I kept thinking about the tires being stuck on the front of the face. There's been Sentai with car motifs in the past, but these designs are way different from those, so it leaves an impact.
"What are some memorable moments from the episodes that have been filmed so far?"
Iuchi: We've had clear weather since filming began, but on the day when all five members of Boonboomger assemble for the first time, it snowed and filming had to stop. While we were waiting, everyone played around and made snowmen.
"For the next year, you'll be playing the role of a hero."
Iuchi: I talked with Mori Hirotsugu-san, BoonRed's Suit Actor, and asked him to show me the poses he does in action scenes, which I would recreate, and I also asked Mori-san to do the poses that I came up with to match the dialogue. I'd like to continue to work together to create the hero named Taiya Hando. I want to do my best so that children who watch the show will think, "The Boonboomger's are my heroes." _
-What are the conditions for being a hero?- Iuchi: Yuuri-san and Eve-san (singers) are the ones who have my back. Whenever I feel like I'm lacking confidence and want to give up, I listen to their music and become encouraged. For me, the conditions for being a hero are……I guess it's to never ask for anything in return.

Yuuri Katsuki has Bullied Kid energy.
Yuuri : Don't you dare see me as weak or perceive my vulnerability. Please comfort me and reassure me. I'll be constantly afraid of your reaction if I inconvenience you. Nothing scares me more than the people I trust lying to me. I'm more competent and at home in the face of people's scorn than in the face of their genuine love for me. The idea that anyone could see me as desirable is baffling. The world sees me as little more than dirt and I don't disagree with them. I am going to make them eat their teeth with their words or so help me I will set myself on fire trying. Just watch, I am the most beautiful woman in town and you will rue the day you underestimated me. How you like me now?
Victor, thinking he'd been dumped by the first person who'd made him happy in a very long time : I see this, I respect this, I am going to use the hell out of this. Hey. Hey fatty. Watch me pry the thing you love and use to cope with your feelings right out of your fingers until you lose weight. kinda reminiscent of what you did to me :) kinda sorta you know just a lil bit. You don't know what eros is? Okay, now you're just making fun of me.
Victor, after Yuuri had his katsudon eros realization : ...JFC he actually literally doesn't know. I. Uh. ...Huh. Well. Uhm. Okay. Maybe that means he doesn't get OTHER things too. He. He genuinely doesn't know what he did to me. He probably didn't even do it deliberately. Okay. Okay? Okay. I can work with this. THINK OF THE JUICY SUCCULENT PORK, BABE. ...I can't fkn believe this.
Victor, several episodes later when Yuuri reveals he literally doesn't remember the banquet: ...Well shit. The past year of my life has been a lie and I might be an asshole. Hm.
I've read some fics where after Yuuri's ED gets triggered and he crashes hard Victor looks back at all those early comments and goes 'I didn't mean it that way babe you're hot when you're fat and you weren't even that fat it was just that it could be unsafe for your joints to skate in that condition' and sure okay I get wanting to minimize the blow and Yuuri is adorable AF when he's heavier and i still enjoy those fics for the most part but
I disagree with that fully and completely cus nah, Victor's a petty lil bitch who can be cold and ruthless and isn't afraid to hurt people. Is he also warm and kind and loving and doing his best? Yes. He contains multitudes. But he was absolutely aiming to hurt, because he was hurt.
Yuuri, meanwhile, who's been bullied for a great majority of his childhood but has complete faith in Victor and unwavering confidence in his honesty - especially when that honesty fits his world view - that he has an entire Victor shaped blind spot : Eh? Pfft. He wasn't bullying me, what are you talking about? He was literally telling the truth. :/ I mean really, he was taking care of me.
Victor, falling to the ground and clutching his stomach with a groan because ooouuugghhh guilt-nausea : Y-....Yuuri.....
Yuuri : I mean Yurio can be a bully but that's just how he shows he cares so :3 Nah haha, I've had waaaay worse, trust me, lol
Yurio : ....I would very much like to be excluded from this narrative, one that I have never asked to be a part of?
Victor, convulsing :
I think Yuuri can absolutely pick up on when Victor is being dishonest with him and poking his sharp little fingers into the sore spots, but more on an intuitive level that he doesn't know how to make sense of logically, so he just accepts it and moves on largely without comment a;dlkf he'll probably figure it out like fifteen years down the road when he's older and wiser and one day he squints at his husband and goes "...huh, okay" and then never does anything about it anyway because he loves Victor and forgives him and also Victor's hot when he's being mean so
#tw ed implied#tw bullying#tagging my yoi fics when i publish them is gonna be such a bitch#yuri on ice

20 questions for fic writers
tagged by @screamlet, mwah babe!
1. How many works do you have an AO3? 142
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 833,588
3. What fandoms do you write for? currently? harry potter, spn (hey, those fic could see the light of day, you don't know), and a surprise (even to me) star trek. maybe someday I'll be in a modern/current fandom again.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
The Weight of Words (Merlin, Merlin/Arthur)
Bluebird (Star Trek, Kirk/Spock)
Magpie (Star Trek, Kirk/Spock)
You Can Hear It In the Silence (MCU/Brooklyn-99, gen)
A Beautiful(ly Illogical) Mind (Star Trek, Kirk/Spock)
5. Do you respond to comments? I try to! I usually do on recently-posted fics more than I do for older ones - pure recency bias
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Grinkov (Yuuri!!! On Ice)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? Hmm...I think the majority, actually. Most recently The Trouble with Wanting (Harry Potter, Harry/Draco) and chaos & revelry (Star Trek, Kirk/Spock)
8. Do you get hate on fics? Very rarely. Usually people who don't understand what "Choose Not to Warn" means.
9. Do you write smut?
Yup
10. Do you write crossovers?
Only once, the Brooklyn Nine Nine/Captain America cross-over which was actually @leupagus' idea.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Yes, a couple have been stolen onto wattpad. Weirdly only my het ships.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Yes! Always a thrill
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? yes!!!! but not in a long time, 14. What’s your all time favorite ship? Kirk/Spock. It feels like home.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Look, look. I have learned to never say never.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Dialogue and angst
17. What are your writing weaknesses? I'm really, really good at starting fics. Like, so good at it. And then I get to the middle-ish parts and am like, oh. This cannot continue to coast on vibes I must actually write a story. 18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? Pro, though I don't know I've done it for any real languages, only Star Trek languages. I would be very nervous about doing it right. 19. First fandom you wrote for? doctor who. It was a 100 word drabble and has been lost to the livejournal graveyard. 20. Favorite fics you’ve written? I have a series for just that!

Hey! Could you do another daemon rec list? Your other list got me in the mood
Absolutly! d=====( ̄▽ ̄*)b
More Daemon Fic Recs
This list will include all ratings and tags, so read at your own discretion! :)
Star Trek
Ni'Var by WerewolvesAreReal - Rated G
Humans have daemons. Vulcans have katras. Spock, born of both, has neither. Which he's fine with. Really. Meanwhile, James Kirk is a little curious about this whole daemon business, because how the hell can he have two souls - ?
a resilient touch by kurgaya - Rated T
Jim’s daemon used to be a wolf and Leonard’s not sure how he feels about that. Used to be. [STID Missing Scenes - Jim sleeps. Leonard worries. Someone unexpected talks some sense into them both].
Daredevil
Down to the Bone by SpiritsFlame - Rated G
Everyone always wants to know why his daemon isn't a bat. As though being blind is all that there is to him, the center point of his character.
Spiderman
of things unknown (but longed for still) by aloneintherain - Rated T
Peter Parker can’t walk around with the same daemon as Spider-Man. But she’s going to settle one day, and there’s nothing he can do about it.
The Witcher
Two Halves of a Whole by penguistifical - Rated G
Geralt doesn’t take much notice at first when the small brown bird alights on his table.
one for sorrow by Emamel - Rated T
There were other rumours, older and more persistent, that Jaskier hadn't been able to make a dent in. Witchers don't have souls. Witchers are no better than beasts. How could they be civilised, intelligent, compassionate, human, when they don't even have daemons. What was Jaskier supposed to do about that?
interconnected strand to strand by Hirikka - Rated G
Turns out Jaskier isn't the first person who loves Geralt to be driven away by the witcher. After The Mountain, Jaskier is found by Geralt's daemon. They adopt each other.
The Adventure Zone
a thousand points of no return by anonymousAlchemist - Rated T
Since wizard's daemons often settle as birds and urban legend says that elves are separated from their daemons, no one looks too closely at the fact that Taako and Lup are both single entities, missing the other halves of their hearts. They walk like people, they talk like people, and if they're hard to read because their daemons aren't fluffing up their feathers or swatting playfully with their paws, well, elves are notoriously enigmatic anyway. This lasts until their first death. All deaths on the Starblaster are strange. When Magnus first died on the animal planet, I'morko followed right after, both of their bodies dissipating into golden sparks, a strange inversion of the natural order. The pattern holds. Year after year, person and daemon alike dissipate into a fine mist of dust, knit together by the bond engine in the new plane. During their fifteenth year, Taako is shot through the heart with a well-aimed magic missile. Lup screams and casts one last firebolt, spell-sculpting around their bodies, before unspooling into a fine golden sand.
Yuri on Ice
hollow ground by Piyo13 - Rated T
There's no rules regarding where a daemon has to be in relation to their skater, only that they aren't allowed on the ice. This has always seemed a little unfair to Yuuri. After all, he loves skating like he loves his own soul; why can't he have both?
Batman
I know you won't leave by Speechless_since_1998 - Rated G
Jason was thirteen, adopted for over a year, and he was at his first gala. He expected the rich snobs who looked down on him, judging his daemon. What he didn't expect was to find a child hiding as his daemon took shape. Nor that Ace would adopt him.
everything you lose is a step you take by oceanofchaos - Rated T
“Tim,” she says, hesitant in a way that she never is, not when it’s just the two of them, “About settling.” Thirteen is hardly unreasonable to be unsettled, but rare given their night activities, and Tim’s been thinking hard about what Hestia will choose. “I don’t think I want to settle,” she says quietly, interrupting his train of thought, “Maybe not ever.” “Okay,” replies Tim, stroking a careful finger over her soft brown snout, “Not if you don’t want to.” ------------ Dæmon AU, the life and times of Tim Drake and his dæmon Hestia, before, during, and after Robin.
Fullmetal Alchemist
the lives of wild animals by ohmytheon - Rated G
military - but what people don't realize is that his daemon is just as wild as Mustang's in the end.
In the Shape of a Soul by redketchup - Rated T
Ed says, “Stupid Colonel Bastard.” “Brother, what are you thinking?” Alphonse asks evenly, which is his way of saying, Please, for the love of god, brother, the colonel is not responsible for every terrible thing, but hey, it ends up Alphonse is still loyal to his big brother, because he also adds, “I’m surprised he didn’t make an effort to call us. It sounds like something we could help with. Maybe the first lieutenant has been out recently.” Which conveys how little faith Alphonse actually has in Mustang when he acts outside Riza Hawkeye’s influence.
East City has a new string of murders and, much to a young alchemist's annoyance, his superior officer insists that the Fullmetal Alchemist's expertise is not needed. This leads to more trouble than anyone would expect.
talents of the souls by ohmytheon - Rated G
Edward's hand shakes as he draws the soul bonding transmutation circle on the inside of the armor. Alethea has to hold his arm up to keep him steady. “I won’t let you take them!” Ed screams. “Take my arm, take my heart, take my soul!” Alethea cries out as she buries her face into his stomach. He can’t feel her. He almost gets sick. Oh, god, why can’t he feel her? (Or, Fullmetal Alchemist with daemons, focusing on Edward, Alphonse, and human transmutation. Companion piece to "rummaging in our souls", which focuses on Roy and Riza.)

Hi! I'm not expecting you to reply but I still figured I'd ask. Could you explain why "people who wear uniform" would mean Yuuri liking boys? At first I thought his mom asked if he had an uniform fetish or something. I do see Yuuri as a gay man but that part kinda puzzled me. Love your blog, by the way! :)
Hi there! I feel it's better to just read the scene to fully understand why.
--- scene from Change--
"TV time is over. Listen, Yuu-chan. MAMA is a little worried about how you're spending the springtime of your life.
"If this is going to be a long lecture..."
In an attempt to retreat to the kotatsu in my own room, I lift my aching hips. Because I was sleeping in a strange position, I felt my spine creak and flinched for a second.
"Okay, don't leave just yet. As I thought, it's kinda weird."
"What is?"
"A high school boy like this? You don't think of anything other than baseball and training and you lie around the house. That's not normal, don't you think? A 16 year old should be wanting to get a girlfriend, going to town to pick up girls... wanting to have sex... no! I don't want to picture Yuu-chan like that!"
I don't want my mother picturing such things. Or rather, I don't even want her thinking about it.
"B-but as the mother of a teenage son, I'm inevitably prepared for such circumstances. I've been prepared since before your cute boy voice started changing. And also, from there on, for the road you'll take to become an old guy."
"It seems like you missed a part?"
Mom released an exaggerated sigh, and scenically brushed her eyebrows.
"But despite that, you spend all day in your room, decorated only with baseball posters and next year's CALENDAR of the Seibu Lions which you pre-purchased. You don't have a single porn book, and what I thought was a DVD for adults labeled "Seibu Lion's path to victory", didn't have any porn in it, but contained what the label actually said."
"You went through my room!?"
"I can't take it, there's such a big difference between you and your older brother that MAMA is worried. Could it be that the reason is 'that', Yuu-chan?"
She lowered her voice.
"... That you only love people in UNIFORMS?"
"N-no! You're wrong!"
"Do you want to go to therapy?"
"I don't~!"
"Oh, my. It's fine Yuu-chan, you don't need to cry. There's nothing wrong with you. It's not like it's a serious illness or anything like that."
It's not unthinkable that I may want to start crying.
Is this what a real mother does? To simply say out loud the things that they figured out about their son? A self proclaimed progressive mother is struggling with this?
--end scene-- That's why.
If you interpret it some other way, sure. For me, it's very clear mom is using euphemisms to talk about sexual orientation, but you know, to each their own.
Also, this story ends up with Yuuri going on a "Christmas date" with a guy. Sure, you could interpret it as 'just hanging out with a dude' but not in Japan. Going out with someone on Christmas is a date. (That's just popular knowledge in Japan.)
As I've stated "here" heteronormative thinking is taught. (don't be the lady in the photo)
One of these things isolated, sure, you're reaching. All of these things together have a very distinct meaning: Yuuri likes guys.
PS. You said "At first I thought his mom asked if he had an uniform fetish or something." If she's asking about a 'fetish' it's one about baseball dudes. She's not asking if he likes baseball, she's asking if he likes GUYS who wear uniforms without saying GUYS.

Today’s translation #235
Spoon.2Di vol. 21, Mitsurou Kubo's interview
Part 11.
--- If Yurio grows taller and taller, he will probably become even more awesome, won't he!
"Ah yes. But as a skater grows taller, they face a lot of different difficulties too - for example it may be difficult for them to balance their body. In addition to that, he may be worried that new talented skaters appear, one after another. But by connecting with different skaters, I think that Yurio is going to keep on changing and develop from now on, so he is a character that I'm very looking forward to see in the future. You can feel that many couples has been forming on their own accord around Yurio (laugh). It seems like Yakov may be getting back together with Lilia, too.
--- So after all they are getting back together?
"Ah, it's not that clear, but didn't you feel that it seems like they are (laugh)? Yuuri and Victor are also like that [like you could see in the show], Mila is starting to be into Otabek and, so I'm like: "Could you all please pay a little bit more attention to Yurio!?" (laugh).
--- Yes, it seems like there are just couples around Yurio (laugh). JJ also has a fiancee, too. And by the way, JJ is often teasing Yurio, but did he also see him as his rival?
"Perhaps, because Yurio has just transferred to seniors and JJ is older than him, JJ thought that he should be the one to make him experience a kind of initiation ritual to seniors and that's why he's trying to pick up a fight with Yurio. JJ was so sure of himself, but as soon as things started to go badly for him, he stopped paying attention to what's going on around him, didn't he.
[Notes: It very interesting how this is an early interview, published just ~a week after the final aired, and she's is talking quite explicitly that Yuuri and Victor are a couple... In later interviews she is much more ambiguous or avoids talking about them directly.]

I'm just listening to music at work and the lyrics "where's all the talent i had last decade? Another 'gifted kid' that burned out in the 10th grade" really got me thinking
Victor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki would go above and beyond to make sure that Yuri Plisetsky never, ever has to experience that sentiment.
They remind him that there's so much more than skating. they take him to do things even if all Yura does the whole time is complain because he needs to have established a life off the ice so that when he gets to their age he isn't having the same breakdowns that they did. They want to help him learn from their mistakes so badly. They'll do whatever it takes to make sure that Yuri knows he has value on and off the ice, that just because he is a skating prodigy doesn't mean that is the only value that he has in life.
They both know form experience what that feels like and they aren't going to let it happen to Yura, even if it means hours of yelling between the angry teenager who just wants to be "left alone" and Yakov, who wants to kill the older skaters for "sabotaging" Yuri.

Being the calm, cool, and collected ten-year-old that Yuuri was, he pretty much knew he had life figured out. He didn’t realize it then, but he was experiencing awe for the first time. The experience of admiration and elevation in response to physical beauty, displays of exceptional ability, or deep emotional expression being put out for the world to see sirening a song into his very being. The awe-inspiring stimulus could only be experienced as vast and difficult to comprehend for his young mind. It challenged his worldview. His limited sense of island and onsen and town, surpassing the scope of his current frame of reference. Suddenly the world was large and round and waiting.
The realization started in the distance with the sound of an oboe, it's low mournful sound calling the start to an event. It drew in the dark eyes. Ten years on this earth. Five years learning, really learning how to glide and turn, twizzle and slide. Jumps were new, and while he wasn't so bad at it, he admitted he was still learning. And thrugh it all, he'd merely done it for fun. It was a joy, just a thing that could easily become a passing phase. Then he saw Victor Nikiforov make the ice his home. The ease, the grace, the way he seemed to tell stories - older than cold itself - called to him. He turned towards his family and smiled, pointing at the television. "I'm going to skate like him!"
"You'll have to practice hard to get to that level," Mari said, staring at the screen. "Gonna be a lot of work."
"I can do it! I'm going to skate on the same ice one day."
Mari grunted, smiling when Yuuri couldn't see. "Right. Well, if you want to do that, we'll have to figure out some things."
"But I can do it right?"
"I dunno. Can you?"
Light illuminated the the determination in Yuuri's awed smile. "I can do anything! I'm gonna do it! Watch me!"
~~~
He lay on the cheep cotton sheets, his silken hair spread like a fan behind him, damp from the shower, smelling of cold and hotel soap. He'd feasted. He'd dined. He'd savored every crumb. Flowers adorned the thin dresser, lay tossed about the bed, tangled in heaps on the table. These were a mere tokens of the crowed gratitude. Tomorrow was the free skate. Tomorrow he would gorge.
As the drops of water glistening against his winter flesh crackled and steamed, evaporating into mist, Victor smiled to himself. Something was fabulous about this new feeling. Something distant and full of wonder. Perhaps his connection to the Dream was growing, becoming more stable now that he wasn't starving.
He heard what the announcers said. He listened to the cries of shock and delight. He felt the pull of there gasps, sucking life out of the room, afraid to let air back in lest it be their last breath. He'd landed a set of daring combos, wanting - no. Needing to make himself known. The shadows in the ice could echo a summers warmth all they wanted. The shred of snow from its surface could succumb to the heat of artificial lights when ever it wanted. They would not move him from his goal. He'd come here for a reason. He was going to find Yuri. Then he would return to the Dream, where precious things were safe from mundane reality.
His eyes closed, cerulean orbs ready to reflect the day in memory. Breath came in long steady pulls. His skin tingled. He lay limp, a smile tugging his lips.
From the mirror hung uselessly on the wall, far from any purposeful placement, a flicker of something darker remained. It watched, waited, and when the Ice King was well and truly in somnic dreams, it flicked with a quiet presence into dark being, watching. Waiting. When no reaction came, the thin comforter pulled itself over the sleeping teen before shimmering thrugh the shadows into a near by chamber.
~~~
"Tell me," Christophe said to the reflection of a very powerful being, "how is the plan proceeding?"
"If any harm comes to Yuri..."
"That's the mortal world, I'm afraid." Before the threat of manifestation became corporal, the spring fey held up a gentle hand. "You have to trust." The lack of response didn't change the weight in the air. It threatened to suffocate Christophe with a sulfuric caress. Gulping, he reached quickly for the dross he kept in the shape of breath mints, popping open the red and white tin. The stench of peppermint threatened to overwhelm. Despite knowing it would hurt, he crunched three quickly.
"He's here! I know he is! We'll complete him, and then he wont be so reckless. That's what you wanted isn't it? For Victor to stop putting lives at risk because he couldn't figure out what was missing?" For a precious moment he thought the shadow wouldn't listen, was to upset. Then the pressure lifted, leaving the smell of spice and warm autumn breezes. Gasping, Christophe swallowed hard. Clamoring to stand, he looked around. The shadows were merely shadows, the mirrors showing nothing more than they should. When he turned to sink into his bed, he cried out in alarm. He'd sat on a dried leaf, it's crinkling decay crunched under his weight.
He was lucky, he knew, to only receive a warning. The Hero didn't do half measures, no unseelie did. They really needed to find Yuri. And Victor's other half. He didn't know they could survive what would happen if they didn't.

been reflecting on yuri plisetsky's role in yoi recently because on the surface it's kind of weird that he's one of the main characters....like victor and yuuri, clearly, but yuri's not just a main character, he's one of only three characters that get to be in the title sequence. there are several episodes he's just not even in. he's not the love interest or lead. why him specifically
and i think more and more the biggest theme of yoi is inspiration. yuri's initial role is to create conflict and make us really believe and understand that yuuri feels like the skating world has it out for him - that his competitors are cold, that he is taking up space in a major scene in which he doesn't belong.
and then...yuri plisetsky gets put on a narrative bus back to russia. why? because yuuri isn't ready to confront the true nature of their relationship. it's not time for that yet.
in early story, we see a lot of yuuri finding inspiration in the people around him. in victor most of all, because he's always found inspiration in victor, but in yuuko when he first performs stammi vicino, and in his family when he needs a reminder that he's valuable outside of skating, and in the love he's been shown from various sources all his life.
except...not various sources, exactly. sources that inspire him, but in a one sided way - sources he feels intrinsically lower than or, for lack of a better word, submissive to. older people. family. people with seniority. he sees that relationship as one-sided. victor inspires yuuri, but of course he does - victor is victor! but yuuri couldn't possibly inspire victor. yuuko inspires yuuri, but of course she does, she's kind, stable, successful, in a loving family. yuuri is just yuuri.
and that mindset is painted as something that affects mostly just yuuri. it poisons his relationships, but only because he can't see how kind and selfless and successful he really is, right?
well...no. because in the regionals, we meet minami kenjirou for the first time, and get to see a side of yuuri that even yuuri, with all his issues, isn't aware enough of to beat himself up for: his selfishness.
and it is selfishness. it's selfishness inspired by such cripplingly low self-esteem that he doesn't see how he could have an impact on other people, but still selfishness. and it's not really a red flag to yuuri - or to the audience, who sees things through his eyes - until victor gives him a wakeup call and gets genuinely upset with him for some of the things he's been saying and doing with the younger skaters. it's how insisting like he doesn't matter hurts more than just himself; it hurts everyone he's close to by invalidating everything they're trying to communicate to him.
it's an issue yuuri doesn't fully solve in the series (hello, being shocked that victor, his fiancee, cried when he said he wanted to end their relationship in episode 11). but it's the start of yuuri seeing for the first time that his responsibility to be kind to other people extends into and influences his responsibility to be kind to himself. and it begins here, with minami.
doesn't it?
well, no, actually. because later on we find out that yuri plisetsky was inspired by yuuri, too. that he thought his step sequences were amazing, and only followed him to - like yuuri did with victor at the banquet night - spend time with him. meet him. see what he was really like. and the angry, dismissive yuri we've seen thus far in the series isn't just teen angst, but another result of yuuri's improper understanding of his own position in skating. he's not jealous, he's disappointed, because he's the kind of skater who'd never give up, and hoped yuuri would be that person too. no matter how valid yuri's disappointment with yuuri is or isn't (and much of it isn't - but he's only fifteen, and he's going to have emotions that aren't as fair to other people as they ought to be), the fact remains that it was inspired by yuuri's behavior.
and does yuuri need to be an entirely different person because of yuri's expectations? no, of course not. yuri does have some unreasonable expectations for him, and they met at yuuri's lowest, in a mental state where his only priority could be himself. and growing past those expectations is yuri's character arc, as we see later on when he admits to himself that he wants to keep skating with and against yuuri even though yuuri still very much struggles with his mental state.
yoi as a whole is an exploration of inspiration, how it influences you, how it influences your loved ones, how important it is to nurture and respect and protect even in the smallest of ways. and victor and yuri are two sides of the same coin with regard to yuuri. victor is someone he's inspired by, yuri is someone he's inspired. yuuri's arc is learning to use that inspiration responsibly - not as a yoke to be feared or a standard of comparison, but as the precious gift that it is.

Diabolik Lovers LOST EDEN ー Subaru Maniac [Epilogue]
CHAPTER MASTERLIST
ー The scene starts in the big hall of Eden
Shuu: I don’t think the situation will have any immediate impact but...
If we do end up losing Carla, it’ll take a huge bite out of our expected military power.
Reiji: We’re in quite the pickle...
Subaru: I mean, I can just fight twice as hard to make up for it, right?
Shuu: ...Hah?
Shin: I didn’t think you’d offer to cover for Nii-san.
Subaru: ...What? Got a problem with it?
Shin: No? I don’t think we have much other choice.
Reiji: Either way, let us be utmost careful as to not let this information leak to the opponent.
ー The others leave
Subaru: ーー Oi, Ruki.
Ruki: Yes?
Subaru: You’re pretty smart, right? There’s somethin’ I’d like to ask of you.
Ruki: ...In that case, wouldn’t it be better to ask your older brother Reiji instead?
Subaru: ...I want to entrust you with this.
Ruki: Heh...Oh well, I suppose it’s fine. So, what is it about?
Subaru: Actuallyーー
*Flap flap*
Kou: ーー Huh?
Azusa: ...What’s wrong, Kou...?
Kou: Yeah...Was that a Familiar just now? I could have sworn I saw something weird fly by...
...Whose Familiar could it be?
ー The scene shifts to the Vibora’s castle
Zweig: ...
Kino: Okay? Do you understand? I want you to give out the order exactly as I told you just now.
Zweig: ーー Roger.
Kino: There we go, just like that!
ー Kino leaves as the scene shifts to the forest
Kino: The Church is doing great work as well.
If things continue like this...
Yuuri: So this is where you’ve been. There’s something very important I have to tell you.
The Familiar who infiltrated Eden came back to report that the Founder King is out for the count.
Kino: Eh!? ...Did they get into an argument? Or perhaps that was their intention from the very start...?
...Oh well, it doesn’t really matter.
With the King out of the picture, I guess the Founders don’t pose much of a threat as a whole.
Yuuri: ...You seem to be enjoying yourself.
Kino: Yes. Well, this is like a game to me.
Either way, fortune has smiled upon us. We should be able to easily turn the tables on them.
ー The scene shifts to the outside of Eden
*ROAAAAAR*
Yui: ...These cries never stop, do they? I wonder what exactly they are...?
Subaru: ...Sorry.
Yui: Eh?
Subaru: ...I’m pretty sure it’s my fault.
I’m actually havin’ Ruki look into the situation.
It’s strange how things have become even worse than when I only just inherited these powers.
Yui: What do you mean...?
Subaru: In other words, I should have better control over these powers...
I’d also like to think that I’m slowly starting to get over my personal grudges as well...
Yet it’s strange how things don’t seem to be getting better regardless.
Yui: You do have a point...
Subaru: It seems like not even the Mukami brothers who lived here alongside the Old Man for years, have ever heard these cries before.
In which case, I guess it must be my fault after all...
Yui: ...
ー Yuma walks up to them
Yuma: Oi, Mr. Shut-In. I’ve got a message for ya from Ruki.
Yui: Yuma-kun.
Subaru: What does he have to say?
Yuma: Yeah. He’s lookin’ into the case, but it doesn’t seem like there’s a lot of promisin’ clues over at the pharmaceutical department either.
Subaru: ...I see.
ー Carla and Shin approach them as well
Yui: Ah, Carla-san. You must be feeling better.
Carla: ...Yes.
Shin: Excuse me? Could you maybe do something about all the noise instead of just casually greeting us like nothing’s wrong?
Subaru: Aah? That’s easy for you to say...
Carla: ...Eden is lamenting, huh...?
Subaru: ...? Do you know somethin’ ‘bout this?
Carla: ...When I was but a mere child, my Father once told me about it in a state of intoxication.
This happened before he was banished to Banmaden.
Apparently he heard cries during one of his visits here.
Father would jokingly refer to it as Karlheinz himself weeping.
Subaru: Weeping...? What do you mean?
Carla: Apparently these cries first occurred after Karlheinz had left his family behind and chose to isolate himself here at Eden.
Father would make fun of this by saying he had most likely been dumped by a woman.
Yui: ( What does this mean...? )
Subaru: ...
*Flap flap flap*
Yuma: Hm? Oi, isn’t that one of the Shut-In’s Familiars?
Subaru: Yeah. ...Seems like it wants to report somethin’.
...
...Haah!?
Yui: What’s wrong?
Subaru: ...It seems like the Vibora have chosen to simultaenously annihilate both the Wolf and Adler clans.

For the character ask game: (if you've watched it) a character of your choice from Yuri!!! On Ice. Idk why but the series and the characters have a certain wholesome-ness(?) to them that just feel like are made for your writing style(???) Lol
If you haven't then... James Bonde 😎 Love the little tidbits of him that you write :)
Send Me a Character & I'll Tell You✨️
Yuuri Katsuki (Yuri on Ice)
My first impression: relatable king. I was pretty close to the same age as him when the show came out, and his issues with anxiety and so on feel very real.
My impression now: pretty much the same, but it's always a little weird when you relate to a character as more or less your peer and then you inevitably age past them. I feel like if I watched the show now I'd relate more to Viktor.
Favorite thing about that character: it never stops being entertaining to watch him switch on the Eros Mode. Also, I love his interactions with Yurio because he's so...conscious of himself as the adult in those interactions? It's so funny but also so real when he's like "this kid is trying to pick a fight with me??? Pffft."
Least favorite thing: aaaaaand again I have no good answer for this. Less about him and more about the way the show treats him, but the older I get the more I cringe at fat humour, so that part at the start would annoy me more now than it did then (and I already wasn't a fan.)
Favorite line/scene: the revelations at the end of Episode 10 are so endlessly iconic.
Favorite interaction that character has with another: obviously The Kiss was such a big deal, but I also just really like that he has other friendships? I really love the sense of community that show built, all the different skaters interacting in different ways and having different types of rivalries and friendships and romances.
A character that I wish that character would interact with more: it'd be funny to see him and Otabek chat while Yurio fumes.
Another character from another fandom that reminds me of that character: maybe Reki from Sk8 a bit?
A headcanon about that character: is more the sloppy type, leaving his dishes to soak indefinitely in the sink and chucking clothes towards the hamper with varying degrees of success. It drives Viktor slightly crazy when they move in together, but they work it out.
A song that reminds of that character: it's always just gonna be the opening theme I think.
An unpopular opinion about that character: no idea lol
Favorite picture: I couldn't find a good image right away but probably something from the pair skate with Viktor at the end.
