When Edwin steps into Jenny’s new flat through the mirror they conveniently set up in a corner of the living room, he is greeted by a sight he would have thought impossible not so long ago.

There is music coming out of a tiny speaker set on the coffee table. Crystal has tried to explain the concept to him, but Edwin loves his seemingly outdated Victrola and he does not understand the modernity of having a blue tooth as a speaker—he does not understand how dentition serves as loudspeaker. Apparently, that statement has served for endless amusement between his mates.

Crystal is moving around in sync with the music that fills he air. Edwin does not recognize the tune—he knows his modern music culture is not up to par, but he will never admit it out loud—but Crystal is mouthing the words as she sways, dragging Charles with her across the floor. Even Jenny is tapping her foot to the rhythm of the music.

Edwin feels out, as he usually does whenever Crystal and Jenny are involved—in a way he never did when Niko was alive. But he does not turn around to leave, too intrigued by the music, and instead he steps aside, back against the wall nearest to the mirror, watching the situation unfold before his eyes.

Charles is trying to follow the directions Crystal is giving him with little to no success, but he seems to be having so much fun with not being able to dance properly that Edwin cannot help the smile creeping up as Charles laughs heartily. Then, just as Edwin is allowing himself a quiet snicker, the music changes, momentary silence falling upon them, and everyone turns their heads in his direction as they realize he has already arrived.

As a slow tune filters through the air, Charles saunters towards Edwin with a lopsided smile. He grabs Edwin’s hands and tugs at him until Edwin is separated from the wall and stumbles into Charles’s arms. Charles, who twirls Edwin around as the lyrics wash over them like pouring rain.

Hold me close and say three words like you used to do, dancing on the kitchen tiles, it’s all about you.

Charles hugs Edwin closer as their steps become less faltered and more synchronized, and he whispers in Edwin’s ears those three words the song is about.
