pisses me tf off when i’m just scrolling and i accidentally click an answer on a poll and it’s not the answer i would have clicked. it makes me feel like im fucking with real scientific data and ruining the outcome for people who spent their life gathering this poll data. i’m so sorry i ruined your life’s work with my clicking.

maybe intimacy isn't taking off your clothes. maybe it's taking off your "i'm fine." maybe it's being naked in ways that have nothing to do with skin.

Monstrous
Written by Aaliyah O'Neil
This poem was inspired by The Poets' Porch weekly challenge, Poem from the Monster.
I was not born with riddles;
they simply gathered around my teeth
like spinach.
Mortals mistake indigestion for wisdom—
how quaint.
My question was never about legs.
It was about arrogance.
Why crawl into the world
thinking you invented walking?
Every hero that meets me
is already a crossword:
their jaw clenched across
seven missing vowels,
their armour polished with denial.
I lick the vowels out,
spit consonants into the sand,
watch them puzzle over themselves
until they look delicious.
Here’s the punchline:
I am not the test—
I am the margin.
I am what happens
when myth forgets to edit.
A footnote with claws.
A metaphor with a pulse.
You call me monster.
But tell me:
if a woman thinks sideways,
asks questions in snarls,
and refuses to die quietly—
what else can you name her?
I keep asking.
You keep answering.
Neither of us is satisfied.
Meanwhile,
the earth hums its one long vowel,
the trees lean closer,
and my riddle remains unsolved:
not “What walks on four legs,”
but
“Why must you measure life by legs at all?”
