I have to admit it, I watched Kaleido Star at least twice because i stim a lot with the performances, wich lead me to follow quite some accounts of acrobats, I just love it too much alright???

Yuuri Katsuki

No matter in what part of his life he is, were he couldn't even make a good performance or after start getting trained with Victor, what matter is that you are there for him and love him just as much as he loves you, you alone represent a great comfort for him, something that also motivate him to become better in skating

Even when Yuuri can feel quite flustered by your relationship that doesn't stop him from being close to you and being affectionate, and, honestly, the fact that you are autistic has never bothered him at all (but it does make him self-concious sometimes since he is too worried by wanting to avoid upseting you or even overwhelmed you)

By the moment Yuuri learn that you are autistic he imediatly tried to learn about autism, dating or not you are someone he cares about so he wants to make sure he knows all he has to know, and as time pass and you two grow closer he just want to learn more and more, finding it quite interesting, but he is more interested on knowing how it does affect you and what he can do to help

Guide by his love Yuuri tries to adapt his own life and rutine to your comfort, he doesn't really mind changing a few things if those make you uncomfortable, and, honestly, his parents are so happy that you two are together that they are also incredibly supportive (there are high chances that her mother learns how to make your favorite/comfort food, happily willing to cook it for you anytime you want to eat it)

Yuuri wants to avoid overwhelmed you at all costs, so most of the time he ask your opinion and is highly valuable for him, with each new perfom he is preparing he always ask you what do you think (even if you dont know nothing about skating he likes hearing your opinion), also he ask your opinion of his costumes, he always tries to make it with colors and a desing that wont overwhelmed you nor make you uncomfortable, but if it he does he will try to change it to one that is more appealing for you

Once Yuuri learns about stiming he will take a while to fully comprehend the concept and more to get used to seeing you do it, sometimes it still take him of guard and even make him nervous when is too vocal or visual (fearing that something may be bothering you), but over time he just get used to it and he even encourage you to feel free to stim all you want when you are with him or his family (he will not admit it out loud, but sometimes find your stim quite cute and even stare a little)

As much as Yuuri says that he doesn't mind having you around whenever he is practicing the skating he is clearly flustered by the idea of you wanting to see him and it even take him a moment to calm his nervous (probably failing a few times on his practice until he manage to calm down)

Yuuri is already flustered enough by the idea of you liking seeing him perform but knowing that you like it so much that you even stim by looking at him perform is going to flustered him way too much (and is quite evident for his inmense blush), he has background of doing so bad performances that he has never was able to even reach a good rank on the competition until Victor came to train him, but you liking seeing him perform this much is incredibly comforting for him, making him feel even special!

Although, he is still quite self-concious of himself, as much as he loves the idea of you loving his performances he knows that he has to improve, so the idea of you stiming by watching him perfom become one of his greatests motivation to improve, to be able to show you a performance worthy of such honor

Layla Hamilton

Layla, one of the most reconized acrobats from the world, the star from the Kaleido stage, admired and loved for much, the one who's permorfances are always passionate and perfect, managing to always move the audience is not strange of being acclaimed and praised from all her fans, and yet the fact that you, the person she love the most, find her performances beautiful and mesmerizing enough to stim with them is one of the best compliments she has recived ever

Despite being most of the time quite strict and not easy with people she apreciate a lot the people she has close relasionship with, and of course you wont be an exception, Layla is sure that he does love you before even thinking on starting a relationship, as well she isn't someone who discriminate nor underestimate you, the fact that you are autistic has never being a problem for her and since the start she has always treat you as an equal

Layla is really respectful over you and expect others to be too, she doesn't make everyone else around to change and completely adapt to you but at least to have an amount of respect for you, just like she doesn't accept any insult towards the Kaleido stage she won't accept it towards you

In all honesty, is until she start to catch feeling for you that she start to investigate more about autism, also she learns a lot by being with you so she just gets used at whatever you do and learn to adapt the things she has to adapt to don't bring you problems and upset you

It take her a little to fully comprehend concepts like stiming because she really want to fully understand the concept, is probably at first she gets taken a back if you are loud or move much but quickly get used to it, although is until she learn the importance of stiming for you that she stop herself from thinking that is sometimes weird or troblesome (mainly in public or whenever she is too stressed)

After learning the importance and meaning of stiming for you when you admit to her that you like to visually stim by watching her perform or even practice Layla is quite flustered and even flattered, deep down she was hoping that you would like what she does but hearing that you even stim by it is giving her a new feeling, one that she likes, and she doesn't even waste time before thanking you for telling her and how happy she is by it

Honestly, knowing this give her motivation to keep giving the best of her and making sure everything is perfect, as well from then she likes to talk more about her practice and the new shows the Kaleido stage is working on, wanting to know your opinion on the matter more than ever (it doesn't matter if you don't say much about it but if you do she will heard you with a loving smile in her lips, a quite cute but rare scenary to look at). If there is something that you don't seem to like much or can find uncomfortable to look at Layla will try her best to change it enough for you to be comfortable with it, if she can't change it or not enough she will apologize profusely

It isn't too obvious but knowing this makes Layla being even more excited to perfom, everytime is time for the show she remind herself that you like it and she is doing this for you too (even if you don't assist that day at the performance she still thinks on you). Because of this you have always an sit just for you, either in the crowd or in backstage, wherever you feel more comfortable

Leon Oswald

Despite having a reputation of being someone quite cruel and of someone who just cares about himself Leon is really caring and loving towards his partner, once he is sure about his feeling for you (and, most important, those are reciprocated) then Leon will always keep you close and make sure you are safe and happy

Leon is already quite protective, the memories of his past make him being scare of the posibility of losing you so he is always keeping an eye on you in case you need anything, and, honestly, the fact that you are autistic it does afect him quite a lot, but not because it bothers him but because it bothers you, even if you are at peace with it that doesn't change the fact that your autism will affect your life from how you percive the world and live your life, so is that what leads Leon to always take in consideration your autism

Since the moment Leon undestand how important you became for him he started to investigate all he could about autism and paying closer attention to you, genuinely wanting to learn more about the topic and how it does affect you, he is really smart and observant and, honestly, he learns quite a lot by just watching you, so with the time he spend paying close attention to you it was only matter of time for him to learn enough to make sure you are comfortable around him, to know when is safe to take a step close or when to give you space

Leon has no problem with adapting his life to you, you are the person he loves and the only one he is willing to let get close to him and his heart, so, for him, is only right to make you feel comfortable and safe around him just like how he feels around you, besides, he doesn't really mind much having to adapt a few things if it is for you

Leon will not have much troubles with learning important things such as being overwhelmed and the importance of stiming, this is a really important part of your life so he wants to fully understand them (besides, when he feels completely comfortable with you he will have less problems to ask you about it), so when knowing the importance of stiming and how it help you he will even indirectly encourage you to do it and will never say something bad about it

Adapting himself to your comfort also include his performances, always making sure that non of his costumes can be overwhelming and that you can enjoy seeing his performances without a problem, even before knowing that you stim with it. By the moment he gets to know that you do enjoy his performances to the point that it is useful to stim (either by you telling him or he noticing) Leon will feel quite flattered and even prideful of himself, he knows he is good at what he does and his looks helps a lot but knowing that he can help you and even make you happy by performing is more meaningful that anything else, he thinks that this may be the true meaning behind a good performance, the meaning Sophie used to see in the stage

Leon will express how happy he is that you like his performances once you two are alone mainly because this is something quite personal (since it will be expressed with words of love towards you too), and, honestly, after he gets to know this he will be more motivated to make the best performances he can offer and every single one will be adapted at your comfort (he is willing to threaten to quit the job if they refuse to change something that make you uncomfortable, he knows that with his high reputation he can do what he wants anyways)

My thoughts on this awesome art.

JJ ( lesser noble's son/ mayor's kid or something like that) is just trying to help his friend (Otabek) but he has the worst understanding of boundaries, subtly, and gets caught up in the drama so fast it's tragic. Hilarious, but tragic.

Minami is an elf. Come on now. Look at him! He works with Christophe as an apprentice. Just is suddenly there with whatever is needed. Has a massive break thrugh to become an official court magician apprentice by learning that illusive spell at a crucial time.

Pitchit is all about that tea. Him and Chris have serious side eye when everyone else needs help because of their dramatic selves, but boy do they thrive on it. These two might secretly be the source of all the rumors and spontaneous dance numbers in town.

Christoph is the fairy godfather/court official magical person with all the gentle magic and blatant flamboyancy such a position requires. Somehow he's always there. You just don't notice until he makes himself known. It's creepy, until you realize it's actually to help and protect, and part of his magic. Also, half the time it's Pitchit eaves dropping and using clever mirror placement to get that pipping hot constant comet (tea).

You know that Georgi is so into singing his massive hit (backed up by JJ) that a 'captured' Otabek just unties himself and walks out with Yuri as the villains hold the long note before they even notice. They are well across the dangerous bridge before the song ends and JJ discovers they slipped out. Georgi has to double take, blinks and is secretly impressed and chagrined because damn it that was a GOOD SONG! He worked on that all week! Sends JJ to get them back for the plot to continue.

Yuri hates that everything causes spontaneous songs. Especially when his parents sing them because they are always sappy wake you up at dawn with thrown open windows and birds and suddenly he's dressed and on a horse and what the hell?! Why are they on the way to town? What even is life? Someone HELP! Gets chased because plot demands it, winds up in woods. Hears BEST music. Follows it.

Otabek lives in the woods in an oddly fantastical 'cabin', that would be a massive magical castle if he'd just flip the fuse box switch, but he wont because it causes questions and matinence issues, and he just cannot with these sudden laps of logic for fairy tale rules. Why it all so convoluted? You could just like, not? He's gonna get caught up in the plot and wonder what the heck happened. Otabek helps. Everyone. Because common sense is apparently his alone, WTF people? W. T. F. Finds Yuri trying to escape town folk trying to mob him. Helps. Tried to get him back home. Adventure and secret (is a high rank) noble reveal because Georgi is not as bad as he seems. He's like Christoph's counter part. They both mean well. It's just that one is goth af about it.

Victor and Yuuri are just trying to throw a frikin birthday party for their feral son. He's cursed, but like, in a good way. Some day his prince will come (wait until they meet the guy from the woods and start the betting pool on how long it takes for the curse to break because they are keeping him) and they have SO Many Songs About It. Ah, how will they ever lift this (dramatic, tragic, so exciting) curse? With SONG! Wait... where did Yuri go? LE DRAMA! *smooch smooch* Los DRAMATICA! *kissy kiss kiss kiss* OH How Will They Ever Make it to That Fateful Day?! *aggressive making out*

They're not gonna and that's okay. Honestly, this show has done a LOT more than most gaybait has in terms like... taking gayness seriously?

Like instead of Ehehehe sexual tension or "Ooops, they stumbled into each other and KISSED" type stuff, we got like... acceptance of two dads and like very sweet bed sharing that isn't too on the nose.

Feels a lot like a staff that is doing the best they can without veering into cheap fanservice or whatever. I would love for them to kiss but this show feels more like it is about the family unit than it is about their bond and honestly... seeing two papas raise a kid together without a million "isn't this WEIRD that we are TWO MEN??? isnt it ODD for MEN to have to do domestic tasks?" is like... sooo good that I'm fine with Kazuki and Rei's personal relationship not being the focus.

The bar is low as hell but like.... I'll play limbo with it. I will go under the bar and cherish this show for being so fucking sweet and then just going to fanart to watch them kiss or whatever.

Maybe we'll get a Yuri On Ice type twist but... YOI focused on Victor and Yuuris relationship. This show just isn't doing that for Kazuki and Rei and htat's... fine.

I'm still turning my nose up at people going ISNT IT GOO DTHAT WE'RE GETTING PLATONIC LIFE PARTNER REP because... that's not what is happening here. We're witnessing careful gay coding but also a show that is more focused on normalizing same gender parents than a same gender relationship. The subtext exists to normalize htis type of family. Which... I wasn't expecting at all really

English and Japanese dubs seem to have a difference of opinion on whether Victor's internal monologue about agape mentions parents or only God. We all love pointing out that the visuals accompanying the previous line of monologue point out Yuuri's love as unconditional, something which is going over Yurio's head—

—but one really plausible interpretation of Victor's character is that he hasn't had unconditional love until he met the Katsukis. Maybe hasn't even seen it in action. Maybe Victor didn't have parents, really; unless we count Yakov and Lilia (which I do), but Yakov at least is for obvious reasons very invested in Victor's professional pursuit of perfection, exactly as Yakov and Lilia both are for Yurio. And maybe Victor's parents made clear, if perhaps unintentionally, that their love was contingent on his being good enough.

Which is not really an interpretation the English dub supports. Just the Japanese dub.

Toyonaga: I like Phichit-kun's programs, both short and free, from "The King and the Skater". It must be a lot of fun to skate them with so much positive energy~

Uchiyama: I like "Yuri on ICE". But, it's very cool that we have those fictional movies in the show, like "The King and the Skater" and "Shanghai Blades".

Suwabe: I would say "Yuri on ICE". There is so much emotion in that program, and it strikes a cord the most. The theme of expressing the life of this one figure skater named Katsuki Yuuri in a program is also very good idea.

-- So, if you could choose one character from the show to be your coach, who would you choose?

Uchiyama: After all, I think that Yakov would be nice [to have as a coach]. Yakov&Lilia duo is the best.

Suwabe: The certain winner. They have many successes, too.

Uchiyama: Who was JJ coached by?

Suwabe: Even when he tried to work with a different coach, they didn't get on well, so it didn't work, I think?

The cast of HR go on a camping trip together, somewhere with no signal. Who absolutely loves it and who absolutely hates it?

I'll answer this with Schitt's Creek gifs.

Phichit hates it. Like. "What even are we doing out here? What's the point? You want to go to sleep? We have beds for that? Beds that are inside and away from bugs??? And Dirt??? Where am I supposed to pee? Why are you drinking river water I'm—"

The point of camping is LOST on him because if he wanted better versions of the things he has on a camping trip (food, water, toilet) he could find it in a fraction of a second with his super speed. So the idea that he's just supposed to NOT go seek these better things in favor of you know. Traditional Camping Things. is just bonkers and wildly inefficient to him. It makes no sense. Connection to the outdoors? He's seen trees before. He's not missing anything. In fact, He's left the campsite the moment your party has arrived. Because you know what he IS missing??? Insta.

Yuuri K. is not necessarily look forward to this trip but he's also not complaining. The thing is, the only time he's been in the wilderness is when he was training with Minako or on official Thief Business. So, the prospect of being in the woods with Friends for Shits and Giggles is kind of interesting to him. He's got what it takes to be a good camper: high endurance, accustomed to spartan conditions, and very resourceful. He's up to the task of starting a fire, pitching a tent, fishing. He's interestedly watching his more experienced friends navigate the wild and taking notes. But you know, after the gang has roasted their marshmallows and sang their campfire songs, he's gonna start getting antsy. There's no signal. How is he supposed to know if his parents are ok back home? What if something happens in the city without him knowing about it?? What if something happens to Phichit (he left early, remember?) and his friend can't reach him??? Yuuri is the first to rise at the crack of dawn so that they can get BACKKK to civilization.

Victor and Chris are being such you-know-whats about the whole situation. Because they've got big boss energy, they don't wanna be complete downers and disappoint all their friends that look up to them (like Phichit) by just dipping. So they try to "cover up" the fact that they are just. Not here for any of this nature business. Except it's SUPER obvious that they're miserable because they're both being total divas about it and everything they say is incredibly passive aggressive and everything they do, they do with the nth degree of reluctance.

"Oh are we stargazing tonight? Wow. So beautiful. I'm sure I saw that constellation over my apartment building too. Yeah no, it's gorgeous."

Look, when your parents divorce, you sometimes begin to wonder if love is real. When you find it - even if it's in a sketchy vid taken by three cherub related hell spawns - you jump on it.

Victor and Yuri are likely to see Lilia and Yakov as parent figures. They do be bro fighting. (Yuri wondering is Yuuri is good enough for his big bro with some teen BS tossed in because of course, especially after their 'parents' broke up.) So like...

Honestly? Both their attitudes make scene. Why Yuuri is so important to Victor. Why Otabek seems to calm Yuri down (You NEED a friend some times who doesn't judge your bullshit). Why Yakov is having such a hard time. Why Lilia is so stand-off-ish. Parents who still work together for their kids.

But like, Victor is Yakov's fave and Yuri is Lilia's. Even if it's only a slight advantage to each.

we know the gpf finals are in mid december and victor leaves for japan in mid april, so yakov and lilia’s divorce is very recent. i always imagined it happened years ago, but looks like i was way off.

which brings us to another thing

do you realize how shitty few months these must have been for yakov? first his wife of who-knows-how-many-decades files for divorce, then his star skater (who he probably pretty much thinks of as a son at this point) ditches him without a warning to answer an international bootycall. and let’s not even start with the mess that is the rest of his protégés… this man is in serious need of a holiday.

(things might be looking up for yakov though, since kubo mentioned in an interview that it’s possible him and lilia might get back together one day!)

I'm just listening to music at work and the lyrics "where's all the talent i had last decade? Another 'gifted kid' that burned out in the 10th grade" really got me thinking

Victor Nikiforov and Yuuri Katsuki would go above and beyond to make sure that Yuri Plisetsky never, ever has to experience that sentiment.

They remind him that there's so much more than skating. they take him to do things even if all Yura does the whole time is complain because he needs to have established a life off the ice so that when he gets to their age he isn't having the same breakdowns that they did. They want to help him learn from their mistakes so badly. They'll do whatever it takes to make sure that Yuri knows he has value on and off the ice, that just because he is a skating prodigy doesn't mean that is the only value that he has in life.

They both know form experience what that feels like and they aren't going to let it happen to Yura, even if it means hours of yelling between the angry teenager who just wants to be "left alone" and Yakov, who wants to kill the older skaters for "sabotaging" Yuri.

“He has a very cute accent” is the only thing Mari has to say when Phichit retreats to his room to freshen up a little after the long flight. When Yuuri asks her if that's all, she shrugs and lights herself a cigarette.

Yuuri doesn't know why he's surprised at her lack of enthusiasm; it's not like she's usually a bundle of energy. Maybe he expected things to be a little more exciting, because Phichit is visiting his family’s hot spring for the first time and that’s a special occasion, but he soon realizes how ridiculous that thought is. Phichit isn't a celebrity. Phichit is Phichit, his friend, whether they're in the USA or in Japan or anywhere else in the world. And his family doesn't do a happy dance, but his parents are as friendly as always and Mari even offers Phichit a smile when he returns from his room (maybe she does it to appease her brother, but it doesn't matter, because a smile from Mari is a high honor whatever the circumstance).

The whole visit is nothing special, in the best way possible. They talk like always, they laugh like always and even though Phichit runs through town like an excited tourist, they visit Yuuri’s favorite places just like they visited places back in America. Skating in the ice rink is more fun than usual, but it’s no different from skating with Phichit in Chicago and Yuuri catches himself thinking how much he missed his friend at the most random moments.

“Phichaboo!”

He for sure didn’t miss this.

“Stop it! Don’t say that!” Yuuri giggles softly at the sight of Phichit emerging from the water, shouting his stupid little catchphrase. He remembers his first evening in Chicago when he was sitting on a bench alone and this smiley Thai boy appeared behind him out of nowhere with a happy ‘Phichaboo’ and nearly gave Yuuri a heart attack. The little wordplay was fine and funny enough as an icebreaker early into their friendship and Yuuri honestly thought it was really cool of Phichit to just walk up to a stranger and say something so silly. The problem is that Phichit just won’t stop saying it.

“Why though? It’s my thing!” Phichit grins. “I don’t ask you to stop talking about Victor all the time, do I?”

“Talk about- talking about Victor is not my thing!” Yuuri feels his face burn and he has to fight the overwhelming urge to descend into the water when his friend giggles softly. “And even if it was, at least it’s not as annoying as having your own version of Peekaboo!”

Phichit mock-gasps, pushing a good amount of water straight into Yuuri’s face - luckily, they have the hot spring to themselves, otherwise this probably would’ve thrown a very unprofessional light on the Katsuki family. Not that Phichit cares about such banalties as professionality. (Not that he’s wrong to not care. Yuuri often wishes he could do that.) “Annoying?!”

Right now, he wishes that Phichit would never leave again. Damn, he missed this.

“Would something annoying make you laugh like this?!”

He for sure didn’t miss this.

“Stahap!” An embarrassing squeak escapes his mouth and Yuuri frantically grabs his friend’s wrists, pushing them away from his tummy. “Don’t tickle me!” Okay, he’s lying. He did miss this, a little bit, but still!

Phichit laughs and obeys, but there’s a mischievous sparkle in his eyes. Tickling has always been a way for him to calm Yuuri down during their time in Chicago. Too many new people at once? A few subtle pokes to his midsection to keep him in the here and now. A failed jump during practice and negative feedback from the coach? Some squeezes to the hips never hurt nobody. Just a rough day in general? Time for a full on tickle attack once back in the dorm! And similar to the catchphrase, which Yuuri at this point refuses to even think, there’s no stopping Phichit, even after being friends for quite some time now.

“You’re so childish!” he mumbles, hugging his torso and playfully glaring at Phichit.

“That’s bold coming from someone who blushes when I say ‘Phichaboo, here comes the tickle monster’.”

Enough.

“AIEE- Yuhurihihie!”

Yuuri just smirks and continues to squeeze up and down his friend's sides, making him cackle. He has always known that Phichit is ticklish too; a poke here and there has showed him, but really tickling him… it just never came up. And at least in the beginning of their friendship, Yuuri admits to himself, he was too shy to initiate something like that. But now? Oho. Payback time!

“Eek! Yuuhuri! Whyhyhye?!”

“Why?! You made fun of me!” Yuuri mock-gasps and scribbles over his friend's tummy. “How very dare you!”

“Buhut you cahahalled mehe chihildish! Ahand I sahahaw you bluhush, so I juhust said the truhUTHAHAHA!”

“Good spot, huh?” Another squeeze to Phichit's hips, drawing a loud cackle from him. Yuuri grins. Why deny it, he's having fun with this! Especially because Phichit has only squeaked and giggled up until now, which is cute and all, but not really what Yuuri was looking for. Now, he's found the spot to get real, full-blown laughter out of Phichit. Real, full-blown, incredibly infectious laughter. Yuuri has to really keep it together so he doesn't giggle alongside him - Phichit would tease him endlessly about it!

Apropos teasing…

“Peekayuu, here comes the tickle monster!” Gosh, it even makes him blush when he says it himself, but it's totally worth it for Phichit's indignant squeak. He resorts to tickling his friend's sides again so he can speak.

“Nohoho! Thahahahat's my cahahahatchphrahahase! Yohou cahan't hahahahave it!”

“What are you talking about? I've never heard you say Peekayuu before. You always said… ah, damn, I forgot. Oh well, let's just use my version from now on.”

“Lehehet's nohot! It's PhichahAAH!”

Yuuri can't help it, he just has to laugh with Phichit when his hands find his hips once again in order to prevent him from finishing the sentence. (Mainly though in order to hear these endearing cackles again, who is he kidding.)

He only stops when Phichit taps his wrist - a signal they established back in Chicago to signal that one (Yuuri) has reached his limit. Yuuri immediately takes his hands off amd even though Phichit's eyes are shimmering with obvious joy, an anxious feeling creeps into his chest. What if that was too much? What if he has overwhelmed Phichit? What if he's mad at him? What if-

Phichit interrupts his spiraling train of thought by splashing water into his face and when Yuuri looks at him, he's laughing. (He's laughing. That's good. They're good.) “You’re unbelievable! First you tickle me, then you steal my catchphrase! What's next, do I have to sleep on the street now?” Phichit tries to make an angry face, but the twitching of the corners of his mouth betrays him. “The audacity!”

Yuuri feels like a heavy weight is being lifted off his chest and he allows himself a little smirk. “I just felt like you needed to pay a price for the time in Chicago. And also a lesson on catchphrases.”

“A lesson?! Phichaboo is perfect!”

“Peekayuu sounds better though.”

“Maybe in the ears of an amateur!”

“Okay, okay.” Yuuri grins and gives Phichit a pat on the back. “How about Phichayuu? As a compromise?”

“That’s an entirely new word, I don't know if- okahay, okay!” Phichit swats Yuuris fingers away before they can wiggle into his side more. “Phichayuu is okay.”

They both laugh, then Phichit smiles at Yuuri. “Can I be honest for a second? I'm really happy that you were confident enough to tickle me.”

“Huh?!” Yuuri feels his face flush and the look he gives Phichit must look absolutely dumbfounded, because it makes his friend snort with amusement. “W-why?”

“Because it shows me that you feel comfortable and safe with me, so, thank you!” Before Yuuri can respond, Phichit's genuine smile morphs into a wicked smirk. “Also, it means we can have equal tickle fights now and be silly and have fun!”

“Didn't we have fun before?!” Yuuri squeaks and Phichit laughs.

“More fun!”

More fun. More fun sounds good. Yuuri looks at Phichit's wide smile and smiles back. He missed this.

Head cannon nonsence:

Shit two dork assed teenagers did at the onsen because they are idiots who respect there elders/ actually like Yuuri's parents.

Cleaned the gutters: Otabek cleaned them, Yuri mostly took the bags of stuff to where they needed to go.

Fell asleep on the roof: Victor was getting to Yuri. Otabek wanted to read in peace. He went to the roof. Yuri followed. Sleep happened.

Almost fell off the roof: See previous entry and know that Yuri almost rolled off. Fortunately, Otabek has great reflexes to make up for his lesser dexterity.

Cleaned out the storage room: Everyone else kept getting caught up in sentimental memories. Yuri was for burning it all, so Otabek actually did the sorting. This was great fun. Turns out Yuuri has a lot of old clothes he saved, and they found his poster collection. Victor is delighted.

Change light bulbs: Yuri standing on Otabek's shoulders makes them about teen feet tall-ish. Mari walked along with them. Yuri pulled out old ones, handed it to Otabek, who handed it to Mari. Mari handed Otabek a new light bulb, who handed it to Yuri, who put it in and closed the fixture where ever needed. Otabek's shoulders hurt after the whole onsen was done but wont say a word. Just rolls them a few times.

Dust the high places: Same dynamic as above, only with a feather duster and cloth. Otabek's shoulders need a break, but it's good stamina and weight lifting training.

Clean and polish the Katsuki's car: This was mostly to impress on Yuri how much time vehicle maintenance takes, but they gave the boy a hose and someone to turn it on, and if that someone happens to be very hot dripping wet and about to get vengeance, well that's just a bonus. You know once water gets involved, Victor and Yuuri get in there too because fun times will be had by all.

Accidentally on purpose teach a bunch of seagulls how to terrorize rude tourists for french fries: Look, Otabek is deviously patient, and once Yuri finds that out he will find a way to turn those traits to evil. Like asking Otabek how to get vengeance on someone who was rude to Mrs. Katsuki. Yuri wont stand for it. French fry lured seagulls, Otabek says with a straight face, because of course he does. What's that? Well, you lure seagulls one french fry at a time to the aria where rude tourists usually gather so they are haggard by said avian for food, thus giving them a shuddering terror of the birds every time they have a meal outside. Parking lots near coastal towns will never be the same.

Get told not to lure seagulls with french fries: they are amassing an army and it's starting to scare people.

Climb a lamp post: This is mostly a dare. Until Yuri can't get down. Otabek helps him, but they never speak of how long it took for Yuri to get back to ground level again because he was afraid to let go of the pole until he knew Otabek would catch him. It becomes an inside joke. May or may not be why the Russian skate team keeps trying to get Otabek to catch them. (Only Yuri is allowed this privileged.)

Discover Otabek is an absolute heater when he's asleep: Storms knock power out. Generator needed for fridge and such. It gets cold. Only room with heat? Yuri and Otabek's. Why? Because Otabek fell asleep hours ago, and radiates that pleasant sleepy warm like he was a small fusion star. Woke up wondering why he is surrounded by people laying on him, and questioning if he's allowed to move to go do morning things. Manages to find a way. Thirty minutes latter everyone else wakes up because all that heat dissipated quickly. It's okay. Powers back on a few hours latter.

Figure out exactly how many M&Ms Yuri can fit in his mouth: 37. He drools after that.

Discover Otabek's reading glasses actually make him hotter and that's an absolute fucking sin: look, he's just trying to do his homework, okay? Collage credits don't amass themselves.

Find out Otabek is a math dork: He and Yuri are watching ice skating play backs with Mari. Otabek is writing out equations absently mindedly as they do. When asked: it's the equations of the skaters jumps and spins. He's working out how to improve them per individual skater. For funzies. Yuri is both impressed and disgusted. No one should like math this much. And if they do, they shouldn't help the enemy. Otabek tells Yuri how to get higher on his quad and suddenly this is the best thing ever. Victor hears. Yuuri is impressed. Otabek winds up on the roof again, trying to escape. No, he is not going to school for maths.

Discover Yuri is actually a pretty good cook. Once he gets over the disgust of spots on vegetables, and figures out how to use a knife (thanks for that Mr. Katsuki, JJ is DOOMED), he's very methodical (perfectionist) so while it takes him longer, it turns out right most times.

Scare the living shit out of people: It's the three am five miles out, five miles back jog Otabek dose every day he can. Yuuri finds out and joins him. Makes breakfast taste better, they say. Yuri thinks they are nuts. Not for the running. For three am.

I got more, but honestly, I have so So SO much for these ice babies.

Eddie is promoting a solo album in 2021, and Steve is pulled on camera to do a silly interview with him. They're about 54/55 in this fic.

alright so full disclosure it’s two am and I have progressed from ‘a wee bit ill’ to ‘oh god please just let me sleep my whole body hurts and my head feels stuff with ultra-heavy cotton’ so don’t expect this to be, like, articulate

warning for yoi spoilers (which: duh, but I do recommend watching the series on your own before you read this, because the episode ten twist is much less fun if you know it’s going to happen and are watching the show like it’s the anime it really is from the beginning)

The basic plot of yoi is that Yuuri Katsuki, a Japanese figure skater, is really dissapointed in himself. He made it to a major competition last year, the Grand Prix Final, then totally failed both his programs, and went home really depressed. Six(?) months later (don’t quote me on that, I haven’t seen it since it came out), he skates a really hard program (just for fun) by his idol Victor Nikiforov, who he’s been obsessed with since childhood, and the kids at his local rink post the video on YouTube without his knowledge. The next day, Victor shows up at Yuuri’s parents onsen, a Japanese inn and hot springs, and offers to coach him with no small amount of flirting.

Yuuri is understandably taken aback, but he does accept eventually, though he’s kind of cold to Victor in the beginning because he’s so confused.

Anyways, they grow closer fall in love yada yada yada Victor proposes at some point, which I think is before the twist but maybe it’s not. Point being:

At a dinner with a bunch of fellow skaters, Yuuri says something about how last year he was so depressed he just stood in the corner drinking during the banquet celebrating last year’s Grand Prix Final.

Everyone:

Yuuri: what?

Everyone: YOU DON’T REMEMBER???????

Turns out he DIDN’T stand in the corner the whole time, but got rip roaringly drunk, blacked out, flirted with Victor, got VERY sexy with him on the dance floor, begged him to be his coach, and then….

The next day he leaves the Grand Prix hotel, sees Victor, and barely bothers saying hi.

What the twist does is turn some of Victor’s outrageous, over the top flirting at the beginning (he asks to be yuuri’s coach while FULLY naked. those are the actions of a man fully expecting to be dicked down within the next few hours) into (reasonably) understandable behavior.

From Victor’s perspective, Yuuri came into his life for one brilliant night, gave him a reason not just to care about skating again, but to care about life, and left him in the dirt the next day. When he sees Yuuri skating his (incredibly hard!) program which is set to music about a man leaving another man after one brilliant night, he thinks Yuuri is saying ‘hey, remember that night? come to my hometown and coach me ;).’

From Victor’s POV, he is in a very slow moving romance anime. From Yuuri’s, he’s in a sports anime where his idol for some reason wants to coach him and he doesn’t know why.

That about covers it, I think! You should still watch the anime—it’s good even when you know the twist!

Sorry it took so long for me to answer this! Apparently I see asks about fanfic recs and I take that as an opportunity to reread all of my favorites, lol. 

And wow, do I ever have fanfic recs for YOI. In years past, I would have recs for other fandoms but I've been almost exclusively reading YOI fanfic since I discovered it. The only exceptions are when Scioneeris (There Be Dragons, Harry) and StarLight_Massacre update (Rise of the Drackens and her Dracken universe, Beguile and Devotion of the Black Heir). 

This list is LONG, as a heads up, as I’m a very prolific reader (and truthfully, this is the condensed list, that’s gone through several rounds of cutting). There’s also numerous WIPs on this list, so sorry if that’s not your thing (but I’d still recommend giving them a shot). I’m putting it under a Read More just because it’s so long. I did put some warnings where I remembered to but there’s probably some I forgot, so read the tags carefully.
