Sun Wukong is the first instance of furry bait, but he unintentionally became furry bait. Sure, Wukong thinks himself to be handsome, but the author of Journey to the West shows the readers that the Monkey King is perceived as ugly by everyone except for the monkeys and Wukong, himself. (Wukong literally declared himself to be the "Handsome Monkey King". Honestly, I want some of his self-confidence...)
And everyone proceeded to ignore that the characters find him ugly.
I can tell that in every adaptation, people make him look as aesthetically pleasing and handsome as physically possible. I've also seen loads of fan art and other types of media that simp for the Monkey King... And I'm pretty sure some described Monkey King Reborn! Wukong as furry bait, too.
Bottom line, Sun Wukong is unintentional furry bait. The author didn't intend him to be furry bait, but he is now.
(If Sun Wukong was real, he would either be flattered or be hiding in Flower-Fruit because some of you horndogs are unhinged... Also, Beta Character Ai exists and there are Wukong bots on there. Admittedly, most are LEGO Monkie Kid! Wukong bots.)

What do you think about body swap scenario for Leosagi
ohohoho that. that seems like a wild ride. like just the concept of these two going woosh into eachother is incredible. but if we break it down to a more simple version I think Usagi would probably be like "let me flirt my way into some fucked up shit because this is not my face and Leo does it anyway, and I always wanted to try it" and Leo would just constantly get the ears slapping him across the face.

*ahem* Welcome to my TED Talk.
Tumblr media
This. All of this. Like HOW is this fandom so blind to the true meaning of his character arc? His story strips away the wishy-washy, rose-tinted perspective written by Kishimoto clearly from the perspective of the sheltered younger generation within the series. The whole point of his story is to put a magnifying glass to the cracks in the shinobi system, and to show Konoha as the imperfect nation it is in a story centred around painting the village in a good light. I truly think that the reason people must hate him so much must be because his story was one that ‘shouldn’t be told’, that people find it hard to grasp the idea that the truth, and the imperfections his arc show, are not so easy to digest and could even be seen as repulsive and cause the reader’s view on the world they love so much to change. People don’t want to see Konoha for what it is, they want this to be a magical world where only villains are evil and protagonists are good, but the reality is rarely so simple.
Tumblr media
He is a perfect example of showing that ‘the road to hell is paved with good intentions’, not only based on his own actions, but also on the actions of the characters around him. By him being exposed to war at the measly age of 4, we are shown the broken system built on trauma that is perpetuated in the leaf village. From his decision to put an end to war, we see hope for change fuelled by suffering, despite him never being able to achieve it in his lifetime. From his loyalty to Konohagakure, we see the will of fire, a will to protect what is important and allow the opportunity for change. From his conflict with his clan, we see how difficult it is to break from generational trauma, paired with the fact that he never could put a stop to war showing that healing from such a painful wound takes generations trying to take steps in the right direction, though that never being enough. So much so that he makes the mistake of putting his brother through the same pain he felt as a child. The downfall of the Uchiha is symbolic. Their dōjutsu is a catalyst for pain, and his taking the steps to wipe out the clan that focuses so heavily on remaining pure and full of pain/hatred signifies a need to heal from the pain, not cause more to achieve peace in the shinobi world. Perhaps that is a little far-fetched, but the symbolism remains. Surely the trauma from activating the Sharingan isn’t healthy, and is bound to continue the cycle of abuse in a world full of unresolved trauma? I think the most important part about it all is that despite everything, despite seeing death as a child, despite getting dragged into the messed up system built by generations before him, he still loved his village and family deeply. He loved the people most important to him despite their imperfections and I think that is a sign of true, unconditional love.
Tumblr media
The shinobi world betrayed Itachi, yet Itachi never betrayed his world. Konoha’s elders took a pure soul and moulded it into their desired shape, manipulating him, and he fell for it because he was too young to truly grasp the impact of his actions, too young to know better than to believe that everyone he loved so dearly could possibly be irredeemable. He was too naïve to think that his love could possibly play a part in the downfall of his dreams, that love could be anything but a force of good. I think he learned that in the later years of his life, but by then it was too late to do any damage control. All he could possibly do was place his faith in Naruto and the other members of his generation to put the work in to finish the work he started, knowing he made plenty of mistakes in his pursuit of peace, knowing the only thing left of his life at this point was to await justice he knew was long overdue. In his own imperfect way, he tried his best to fix as much as he could. He tried and tried to figure out a better way to achieve his goals but ended up merely doing so imperfectly. He even said himself:
Tumblr media
In the end, all he could do was learn to achieve his goals in the best way he was taught, which was a method filled with violence, the only way he could ever know how… to accept a lesser of two evils to be more beneficial to the majority. He knew he wasn’t perfect…
Tumblr media
He spent the majority of his life isolated. From his clan; from his village; eventually so much so that he was isolated from anyone and everyone. I have no doubt he knew he was far from perfect even before his Edo Tensei form, he had too much time to reflect not to believe that. Yet he desperately tried to unite people, to make them see that his ideal was possible and help them to strive towards it, because he knew that would be the only way to achieve his dream.
- - -
Anyway I am far from finished but my brain is melting and I need sleep. Y’all Itachi haters need to stop sleeping on this man and stop accusing his fans of justifying his actions based on his looks BECAUSE I SWEAR, I WILL WRITE A DISSERTATION IF NEED BE. CRITICAL THOUGHTS ONLY. LITERARY ANALYSIS
Hshdhdj I do not like Itachi “jUsT bECaUsE hE’S hOt” that’s literally like the last reason, and reason 1-99 are all regarding the complexity of his character and showing compassion and love to one of the ONLY. FREAKING. CHARACTERS. that desperately fucking needed love in his life yet was starved of it 😤 EVEN NARUTO GOT LOVE. EVEN GAARA GOT LOVE. BUT WHO LOVED ITACHI? I ask again… WHO LOVED ITACHI?!?! Fucking NO-ONE, he spent his whole life being HATED because everyone was too busy perpetuating systemic issues and living in the wishy-washy fantasy denial universe until Naruto finally unified the people and got the chance to be loud enough to scream what Itachi was trying to say all along.
I am getting heated now. Anyway thanks for coming to my TED Talk.
That being said, I can’t words, genuine debate is welcome, would love to clarify or expand but I’ve already spent all evening writing this soooo
I just don't get this. People see other characters doing horrible shit and it's their trauma, pain, loneliness, Shinobi system, and some other shit responsible for their behavior and actions, but somehow Itachi should be completely exempted from this leniency. Because there's absolutely no way he was at the war at the of age of 4, saw bloodshed that would traumatize even the surviving adults, lost his faith in humanity because how little value war gave to the human life, and how FREQUENT wars and conflict were in their world.
Let's also pretend he didn't think it must be stopped because dying meaninglessly for a system was a horrible thing to do. Let's also pretend he wasn't placed in the situations where no child, not even if you're a budding Shinobi, must be placed. Spying on the government? Spying on the clan? Life and death? Making him question the way the world worked while giving him no other option? Good job, adults. All this came from the people who had thrice the experience of his age.
Let's also forget the last part of his characterization - his guilt and regret overpowering all his other emotions, except for his love. Ignoring and denying the last part is something that goes on in this fandom in abundance.
What makes him an incredible character and an honorable man is acceptance. You can ignore that all you want, but he's a brilliant character without whom the Naruto won't be as poignant and profound as it is.

Bdubs: I’ve been dropping them the most insanely obvious hints for like a year now. No response. Etho: Wow. They sound stupid. Bdubs: But they’re not. They’re really smart actually. Just dense. Etho: Maybe you need to be more obvious? Like, I don’t know… “Hey! I love you!” Bdubs: I guess you’re right. Hey Etho, I love you. Etho: See! Just say that! Bdubs: Holy fucking shit. Etho: If that flies over their head then, sorry Bdubs, but they're too dumb for you. Bdubs: Etho.

one of my favorite things about pride and prejudice is that in the last third of the book Elizabeth’s internal monologue about Darcy is her admitting that she’s in love with him but also putting all sorts of qualifications around that statement that kind of ...tamp down the level of emotion (the “feelings, if not as tender as Jane’s for Bingley, at least as just” line, even the whole thing about her and Darcy being well-matched objectively speaking) and as soon as she’s engaged you get the unbridled joy in the narrative about her own joy, cc: “I am happier even than Jane; she only smiles, I laugh.”
