I feel like the reason for the SoC ignorance is because it’s in 3rd person and is more fantasy/heist than romance. Fourth wing, powerless, the cruel prince, agggtm (I’m pretty sure) and shatter me are all in first person which, yes, is more immersive but 3rd person is great as well. And I feel like booktok girlies only like the romance/spice element of the books previously mentioned.

However, I will NOT TOLERATE CARDAN, KAI AZER OR RAVI SLANDER. Heavy on Cardan. He is my #1 book man.

I literally saw at least 5 videos that are like yk "books where he would crawl to her if he couldn't walk" book recs, and none of them, i repeat, NONE OF THEM, included Kaz Brekker...like..HE'S THE OG HE SAID THAT DANG THING. the audicity...

Cardan fighting his desire for her, Jude fighting her fear of losing power over him. Cardan, I believe, was shocked that kissing her didn’t feel quite as disgusting as constantly thinking about her seemingly did, while Jude was shocked to realize that she enjoyed kissing him not only because it humiliated Cardan or punished him, but because, unexpectedly, she liked it. The way Cardan, then, gave up resisting, and Jude threw her knife away, like??? That was one helluva heavenly first kiss of their’s 😅

oh, and this one bit from their make-out, just…

desire hits me like a kick to the stomach. it’s like fighting, except what we’re fighting for is to crawl inside each other’s skin.

everything about the way this is framed, the anger and the hate and the heat, makes it feel far more like a battle than anything else. hell, she has a knife to his throat for the entire exchange, and the kissing ends when she finally tosses it away. i suspect having a knife pressing into his skin the whole time was more exciting than anything else. (yes, i’m taking my ‘cardan has a knifeplay kink’ and running with it, don’t judge me. or do. i may deserve it.)

and worse, far worse, i like this. i like everything about kissing him–the familiar buzz of fear, the knowledge i am punishing him, the proof he wants me.

the fact that she wants him just as badly as he wants her is terrifying, unsettling, it makes her feel like she’s still under his power in some way no matter how much power she has over him. and she can’t get the feeling of his lips out of her mind.

Absolutely priceless to me that Jude only realised she's in Cardan's room in Hallow Hall because she saw his closet.
