Can we all appreciate Carden's sass toward balekin in the first book?
I do not have endless patience, Balekin growls.
Cultivate it. Carden says with a small bow as he navigates us away from Balekin and Madoc.

I just remembered that Balekin was the one who told Madoc where Jude and Taryn's mom was after she ran away from Elfhame. So Balekin's the reason Madoc took Jude, Vivi and Taryn back to Elfhame with him which indirectly caused Jude to kill Balekin all those years later. He would've still been alive if he weren't such a snitch lmao what a loser.

i think it was so badass of cardan to be the abandoned useless child who nobody gave a damn about or believed in, then proceeded to be the only child of eldred’s to have a crown on his head and a kingdom to rule, 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯 𝘵𝘳𝘺𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰

I just woke up and feeling controversial, so isn't it so funny that the tfota fandom is like:
about locke, dain, balekin: yeah I hate him but I can admit that's he's a good/important character! Also he's hot!
about taryn: she's an UGLY BITCH who can ROT in HELL and she's awful the WORST character in the series, did I mention that she's an UGLY CUNT?

Reminder that Cardan himself felt trapped:
'"Let me out," Lutie said, although she had little hope. "Please."
The girl gave a tinkling laugh, but the boy drew closer. His eyes glittered with something Lutie didn't like.
"We're all trapped in cages, little sprite," he told her. "How can I free you when I can't even free myself?"'
Extract from The Lament of Lutie-Loo, just before this the descriptions of the girl and boy are given, revealing them to be Nicasia and Cardan. Balekin has Lutie-Loo trapped in a cage made of woven gold, as he wanted to use her to help him get his father's crown. From this, we can tell that this takes place before The Cruel Prince.

I'm a Balekin hater. If Balekin has 1000 haters , I'm one of them. If he has 100, I'm one of them . If he has 10 , I'm one of them . If he has none , then I am dead.

About Cardan's bedroom in TCP. By the end of the book Jude mentions something about Cardan being surprisingly comfortable sleeping in the lair of spies that for a second she thought he looked like preferred it over his prince bedroom. I guess he really did not like that bedroom
Cardan endured a lot of abuse at Hollow Hall, which makes it likely that he would have no problem sleeping or living anywhere else. In case its been forgotten, Hollow Hall is where Cardan faced physical abuse by his older brother, the only person who supposedly "cared for him enough," and its where he found his ex-lover sleeping with another man in his OWN bedroom on the floor. Therefore, Hollow Hall holds a lot of painful memories for him. It's also important to note that Cardan used to sleep on the floor when he was younger, which may be why he had no problem sleeping on the floor at the Court of Shadows. He didn't grow up accustomed to sleeping on elegant beds with stuffed pillows and warm heavy blankets.
Moreover, although he did not seem to enjoy living in Hollow Hall, it was his only option at the time. He made do with what he had, as he was deprived of many things.
