lessons in anatomy II

a yandere art professor Wick x drawing model muse! reader AU... ->chapter map
II.
-It takes about three classes for you to finally relax around Professor Wick. You still feel his eyes upon you when you pose, but he does not make you feel uncomfortable. In fact…he is painfully proper with you. As he should be, of course, but sometimes, late at night when you are kept awake by your thoughts of him…you wish he would be just a tad forward. It's unseemly, what you would let that sweet man get away with. Therein lies the conundrum, you suppose. If he made a pass at you…he wouldn't be so sweet.
-One day you are making your rounds during the break, when you happen to notice Professor Wick was drawing at his desk along with the students. You were in a reclining pose, feigning sleep. The way he drew you…you know better than to think you could possibly look so alluring in real life, but there is something in the varied weight of his lines, the soft shading. Somehow he configured the shadows of the background to suggest wings folded over your supine nude form.
You've never really liked your body. Well…who does like themselves, truly? But modeling in the classroom, seeing your flesh turned into art, has helped you find a confidence, or at least an acceptance, you didn't have before. Wick’s rendition goes beyond all that, though. You can't let this go to your head. It’s too much. “I hope…you don't mind.”
Again, he's crept up on you without a sound, and you nearly jump out of your skin.
Clutching your heart, you look back at him.
“No…I…it’s beautiful.”
You don't know where you get the courage to meet his high-polished onyx gaze, but you feel something inside you implode…then melt.
“You're beautiful, y/n.”
You have no idea that this is the first time he's drawn anyone besides his wife, since she passed.
You stand like this in agonizing stasis, close, but not touching, for you don't know how long. You're not sure what might have happened, given enough time, but some of the students return to class, and the moment is broken. You don’t know if you're disappointed, or relieved.
-You don't know why it's taken you this long, but you finally look up “John Wick+artist”. What you find takes your breath away. Yes, he's a skilled draughtsman. And a painter. And sometimes he combines all these things with bookbinding.
He's incredible.
His paintings are dark, with a touch of fantasy, evoking grisly folktales and the old masters in his play of light and shadows. He uses perspective and foreshortening to explore the human body in exciting new ways. He made his name with a series of ethereal ballet dancers in precarious situations. Later, he only painted his wife, Helen. She was a photographer, and in a snap of them with cheeks pressed together they seem impossibly happy. You see that she succumbed to a terminal illness two years ago.
The art world has not heard from John Wick since.
You do not know this man, really, but you cry for him all the same.
-You have no idea, how you move him. It's not just that he's seeing you naked on a regular basis, though that does not help. It's the flash of your eyes across the room, your smile and your laughter as you joke around with the students while they draw you as God made you. There is a light in you that he cannot turn away from, perhaps because he has lived in darkness for so long. He craves you– and he knows he shouldn't. He traces your form with charcoal on paper, and he tells himself that that will have to do.
He looks you up too.
He finds your little miniature paintings on your social media, your digital portfolio for all to see. You make tiny eclectic diorama scenes you cook up with a 5/0 brush, sometimes you add moving parts and teeny dolls with teenier twee companions. Polly Pocket never had a pet opossum…poor girl. Your diminutive pieces hint at a longing for the enchantment of childhood lost, and maybe a cozy home that feels whole, if not strange to an outsider’s eye.
He notices you have not created anything you feel like sharing lately. He wonders if you are ok. The answer amongst the creatively inclined is usually not. But if you are not happy…you hide it well.
He senses there is a well of strength in you that he wishes he could drown himself in.
TBC...

SW Hades AU January Update
Woohoo, look at that we have a header for the monthly updates now!
Some links and previous updates: May - June - July - August - September - October/November - December - everything else in this AU
I finally got around to not only finish Quinlan's character illustration, but also add a background, glow effect and text box to him.
I've got to say, I am very very proud and more than a little surprised at how well he turned out! Green is my nemesis of a color (that's partly why I decided to tackle Quinlan and Kit in one go - bite the bullet in one go and all that) but funnily enough all his greens are rather desaturated dark yellows (including his skin tone). Gosh, initially I'd picked those colours off of Ares, and up until I added the warmer red to the edges of the shadows on his skin I was very very terrified that I'd made a huge mistake here. (It's part of my art process, spending a significant amount of it being terrified that I messed up my colours beyond saving TT^TT) But he turned out amazing and super shiny!
Adding those snakebite piercings was also such a big brained idea (can you tell that I'm really really happy with him? XD) and this illustration is defnitely up there among my top faves with Shaak Ti.
Kit in comparison was a lot more straightforward (hah).
The foreshortening and positioning of his arms was... well. Not Fun, let's just stick with that, but I'm very good at dying on very small hills, and I'd got it in my head that I'm gonna push this pose A Bit. In the end it wasn't as much as I'd hoped for, but I did try for some exaggeration in the posing and anatomy as well. (Have you seen Ares's hands and forearms and Dionysos's thighs??)
Further SHOUTOUT and a million thanks to @hastalavistabyebye for their enthusiastic tags under all my Hades posts, and for being the genius mind behind these additional trinkets for this AU:
Fizzroot Shake for Nectar (we gotta be safe with teenagers around), and Tiingilar for Ambrosia ❤️❤️
Additional extra ramblings below the cut to save space on your dashboards:
Let's move from the trinkets back towards Kit and Quinlan last, yeah?
Fizzroot Shake and Tiingilar
It isn't as obvious with the big character illustrations as with the smaller images, but I really do have some trouble with keeping things - colours and shapes - simple. It's more obvious on small things that really cannot pack or fit in all those details, so I had to do a lot of repainting (like with the fizz fuzz foam of the shake, or the bowl of the tiingilar), and truth be told I'm still not happy. Might be that the drawing is still too detailed - but in my defense this was a wind-down project for me these past few weeks.
I have collected a few references for shapes and materials and colours from both Hades and Hades2 as you can see on the margins. I am still obsessed with the glow of Hestia's keepsake, it just glows, I love it! If I were to change a few things on these I think it would be to add some more orange/yellow to the Fizzroot Shake to offset the purple a little more (like how the purple bow balances out the very bright yellow/orange of the nectar/ambrosia), and work more black into the bowl of the tiingilar. I was thinking about adding more of that blue to it, but I wonder if even at this level there is too much of it...
Anyway, I will surely be forced to learn a lot more of this when I sit down to finish all my keepsake versions. Some of those are certainly still too detailed in their current design D:
Kit and Quinlan
I took a lot of inspiration for both Kit and Quinlan's clothing from concept art and character models from TCW. Especially for the pistols and the holsters for Quinlan's black getup that he would have worn if the Dark Acolyte storyline made it into the show, I believe.
I was also very very tempted to draw Kit wearing a really high cut swimming suit without the shorts/leggings. The ones that are cut so high they display the entirety of the hips and most of the ass as well probably? But I chickened out in the end, and stuck with a semi-see-through layer on his thighs too smh
I also try to be more intentional with my shapes in these designs. I'm not sure how I'm doing with that, but I tried for a lot of triangles with Kit. And lots of greens and orange, of course. To prove that I'm learning from those Hades style breakdown videos that I'd watched last year. So I made some notes on dominant shapes with the both of them (it was mostly triangles, and Kit also got a rectangle note as well), and to pick one bright, highlight colour while I keep the others desaturated to support that colour.
I think I did better on that front with Quinlan than with Kit. The yellow and gold of all his markings and jewelry pop real nice (and even the little "jewel" highlights of green and torqois worked so well in support of each other! I was really surprised, I generally hate adding them at the end...) and with his dark clothes, skin and hair they really support that metallic brightness even with the warmer tones worked in at the edges of shadows.
Kit on the other hand, I feel he turned out too bright and warm green, and so the orange in his vambraces and clothes don't pop that much. It lacks a bit of balance maybe. There was a time when he seemed to be too dark and desaturated a green, and that was likely the step when I got too scared to trust the process and turned up my saturation a bit too much. So I tried to work a bit of light yellow into him with that bottom lighting, and it did what it could but... oh well. I still quite like it, don't misunderstand me!
I know I sound a bit nitpicky here, but in truth I'm trying to work out what I could learn from these pieces that I might use in the next one! I'm trying to be more intentional with my work, but it doesn't come very easy to me, so working through these things in these posts do help a little. And who knows, maybe it will help someone else too :)

Me 30 minutes ago: My arts gotten so much better, I can totally make badass dynamic anime poses!
Me now:
...no I cannot.
This is what I get trying to draw my blind Stan crawling across the ground in search of his brother at, what is supposed to be, a bottom left to top perspective angle 😂
Because some jerk that kidnapped and bound Ford cheated during a fight and tripped him, before blasting awful techno music in a strong echo-y room (like an auditorium or something), so Stan's reverberation sensing doesn't work and he's overwhelmed, just like Ford is who's had his muffs ripped off and is shouting Stan's name in a panic.
It was a tiny comic idea that was gonna have the kiddos helping them out but oof, clearly not working right now. Gotta hone those anatomy proportions and foreshortening skills more x_x
#gravity falls#gravity falls au#blind and deaf au#stanley pines#stan pines#before anyone says anything about damsel in distress ford#there was no portal shenanigans#he never learned badass combat skills only survival skills such as moss direction and how to find water and poisonous flora/berries etc#guy never got in more boxing practice but did help stan with his by confirming direction as stan learned to sense reverberations#they are both still very much separate brawns and brains just like as kids due to never separating in life

Hello so I heve a rather personal question as an artist. So when I draw and create art no matter how much I like it after it's done i'm not satisfied with it and I see every little detail that's off or every mistake. No one else see it. So my question is do you get that feeling too? How do you get rid of it? Or do you just embrace it and ignore the things that tip you off?
you cannot draw something in a way that removes its most essential and valuable feature: the fact that you drew it. that's why when you look at it, you have x-ray vision and you can see every brush stroke you fucked up and how the sketch was better but you could never capture it and how the foreshortening is wrong etc. because you drew it. it will never go away no matter how good you get because you can never outrun the fact that you made it. that's a good thing btw
#yeeears ago i would post art i didn't think was good and when it got notes i'd feel almost annoyed like 'this?? really? you liked THIS?'#that's so insulting to your audience. but also to yourself. it's brain poison. you can instead just be neutral about it#it's also very common to just not pay attention to praise because it contradicts your internal opinion of the art#but if somebody says they like it then take them seriously. they're saying that for a reason.

It's may be an odd question but do you think you could maybe post a couple tips of anatomy and/or proportion that helped you sometime? I notice I have a hard time learning from videos or guides, but sometimes when I learn on my own or hear someone else's personal experience it just clicks and it's nice.
I know this may sound strange, but for me it was a class I took with Matt Faulkner, who had a very refreshing approach to mark making and drawing from life. We did have a live model, and drawing people from life teaches you two important things that books cannot: textbook anatomy is idealized, not everybody will look like that and foreshortening and perspective are things that are easier to see in person (at least, for me they were).
As you draw things like that over and over, you will build a mental library that will help you draw those tougher perspectives from imagination. I still use a reference, because the human body can bend and distort in a lot of ways and I am nowhere near having all of that memorized, and WE DON’T HAVE TO! If it gets committed to memory, great! But artists should never feel shame from using a reference because that is how we learn and that is how we improve. Even professionals use a reference.
The mark making that Matt taught us was a little different than some of the other classes I had been through in the past. I typically would draw a human with basic shapes and a “wire-frame” skeleton for my foundational rough sketch, but Matt would have us start drawing our figures with different lines. Contour lines, is just drawing the outside of what you’re observing, while periodically flashing your eyes at the paper. Blind contour would have us looking only at our subject and drawing what we were seeing without ever picking up the pencil (some of these actually turn out pretty cool).
Volumetric drawing was the one that I had never come across before. Matt uses a lot of crosshatching and volume lines in his work. See the below example:

The way this applies to anatomy is that his way of volumetric drawing is helpful in finding the space that your figure takes up. Sometimes Matt would have us draw our figure with ONLY volumetric lines. It would look like a tornado person, but this practice wasn’t to make something visually appealing, it was to help us train our brain and our eyes to see the volume. In that volumetric study we would be wrapping lines in a width and curvature that followed the subject. Here is a visual example of a volumetric drawing by Monika Zagrobelna that shows what I mean:

The volumetric drawing helps to grasp how much space something takes up, whereas the wire-frame doesn’t really convey that kind of information. A lot of people reference the Andrew Loomis books and Figure Drawing For All It’s Worth [ISBN: 978-0857680983] is a good resource to learn from. But Loomis does idealize the standard figures in his works and books. I am not saying don’t draw like him! There is nothing wrong with his style! Just don’t fall into the assumption that every body type will align exactly with the proportions and measurements that he covers. For example, he usually has a standard height that male and female figures are drawn at and certain points where knees are expected to reach and other body part milestones:

It is a guideline, and it is useful, but I found that the best exercise that you can do is to do a study on separate pages. No one taught me this, I just did it out of curiosity to see how it would go. Set one aside for male and one for female. First, draw your standard Loomis figure, then get five other male/female reference photos (or drawn from life if you can) of people with different body types. Try drawing them from observation and see how much of the Loomis concept applies to them. You’ll find that you can bend a lot of the Loomis ideas to fit, but you have to throw out some things entirely in order to accurately portray your subject (like the number of heads tall something has to be, or posture, for example).
Hopefully, despite that being a little long-winded of me, you found this experience helpful? Everyone learns differently, so I feel your struggle. I am a big visual learner and need to see what is happening with something to understand it. I also learn best by struggling. So what were the “aha” moments for me, may not necessarily work for another, but it is here if you can find any value or use in it.

Appearance
155cm, aka 5'0, insists she's 5'1 though. (She's close enough cmon.)
Long black/really dark brown wavy/curly hair mostly slightly wavy some parts just curl for no good reason. Dyed undercolour hair, it fades quick so the colour changes between different light blues, teal, lavender and light pinks. She kind of sucks at dying it though.
Dark eyes like really dark brown
Pale/normal? skin, her feet are ungodly pale compared to the rest of her though lol. (Tan lines make me suffer) Dark circles, girl has a shit sleep schedule.
She's near-sighted but not as bad that she has to wear her glasses all the time, she just usually does because it's a hassle to keep putting it on and off. The prescription is actually pretty light.
Small ass hands and feet. It's baby. Like really fucking small hands. (This is a curse that I'll give to every oc even slightly somewhat based off me) Painted nails black, it's chipped and not that great. No pedicure though.
Their ears aren't pierced! It's clip ons, that's why she had a spare to give Milo :> (Girl CANNOT sleep with them in)
Her face is a little scarred due to skin picking problems that still persists. The skin around her nails suffer as well. Will make every hangnail bleed. Panicks every time it happens. Will also bite the skin around their nails, they ended up kind of tough because of that. It gets worse when she's bored or nervous. (She just eats the skin she bites off.)
Give her gum and that'll be fixed but she never has any on hand.
Random facts :>
Korean-Australian, but like 1/4 Aussie, (one full korean parent one half aus half korean one) but lived there most of her life rather than South Korea. Can't read or write the language except her name but listening and speaking is fine. (Conversational, she'll die inside if the words get too big)
Has a license for serving alcohol. (Well in Aus anyway) From a hospitality course she was in during high school. (She did it for fun)
Hates drawing backgrounds. Hates studying anatomy too but hey, prefers drawing people so back to anatomy studies it is. (She cries every time the foreshortening looks wrong.)
Can't animate for shit.
Probably draws Milo for the anatomy studies and dies inside because she just drew a naked Milo. Bro ain't living that down. Will do it again. Then regret it again.
Can play the piano, cries because she can't even play a full ocatave without pressing others keys. Learnt to sing as well- participated in choir as a soprano. Has a pretty straight voice. Can't roll r for any reason. Sucks because half the songs she knows would sound better with rolling rs. Can sing operas really well. (That’s how she was taught to sing after all) Her normal voice is kinda low though.
Loud noise/ yelling overstimulates her. Texture can also become a problem sometimes. Doesn't like being watched but she'll endure it for a perfect love :')
Weirdly good at giving good relationship advice, well she knows the one she wants is bad so she has to know what's good first.
Therapist friend. Half the gossip she knows comes from that.
Definitely the family dissapointment and gay cousin.
Gacha gamer- PRAY for their wallet.
Favourite flowers are rhododendrons
Favourite colours are lavender and rose gold
Will curse you out in Korean and have the person just confused but intimidated. Busan accent coming in handy :>
Ambidextrous, but her right hand is still technically better.
Important-ish things for why she's Fucked Up!!!!! :D
Emotionally neglected to some degree. Her parents cared about academic results and bragging about her. Was a very 'gifted' child, grades dropping at higher grades but still well, A/B student. Not good enough for her parents though.
So she's learnt that love is earned. So she tried but she just couldn't. Sacrificed her sleep to do the things she liked as more and more of her time was dedicated to study. That's why her current sleep schedule is fucked :>
She couldn't really handle the expectations so she chose the uni the game takes place in, it's pretty far from her parents. Just to try and do what she wants for once.
They couldn't go to their parents for support usually so they tried relying on friends. Only to be dragged into messes of friendship dramas after the other. Rather neglected and unwanted in the groups themselves. Got bullied too without much support in those times. Ending up alone over and over.
This kind of cemented her in her eyes as someone unwanted. So she had to make someone stay with her. She could tell she was lonely.
Unfortunate dating sim enjoyer now with ideals of love tries to date normally. However she can never get them to stay.
Worsening mindset yay!!!
She knows what bad relationships look like and tries to seek codependent ones out. Dating worse and worse people and trying to change them so they might just stay with them a little longer.
Toxic idiot can't do it properly. No one stays for longer than ~3-5 months.
So she changes herself. Practising in the mirror. (Bro ain't confidant usually!!! Acting man acting!) She has pent up anger inside of her she used to become stronger. Did her best to conquer her introverted nature and absolutely shit social skills to manipulate others. She doesn't even like what she's doing at all. Finds stalking others and getting information annoying and exhausting. She's not that strong either, has goddamn no arm strength. (She'll beat you with a shoe tho in true East Asian parent fashion lmao) Dislikes conflict too.
She learns how a perfect love for her might act. Even if she never wants to do the things herself.
It hurts them to do what she's doing, but to her it's the ONLY way she can have someone stay. AND have people not INTERFERE. (She has short person solidarity with Desmond please, they like you, you just get in the way)
Has a habit of apologising. So they say sorry randomly to others but she's just apologising for what she has done and keeps doing. They want to stop but keeps forcing themselves to keep going or keeps going in a panic.
She genuinely likes Milo, but gets so insecure that he'll leave her that they do what they do.
Doesn't even like most of the people she dates. A lot of them remind of their old bullies, but she thought bad people might achieve what she wanted faster.
...but that's not the kind of love she wanted. She wants to be in control this time, at the same time be revered enough by her partner to be smothered in love and not think and not be in control.
It's a balance she's never achieved.
(All playable endings end up being too intense for her, but if she doesn't break him it's not enough. Wall ending she ends up lonely from Milo not being around but others they can't process how things turned out.)
She's met Perfect!Milo in the fucking void! They end up there often trying to make her perfect love, and having to restart over and over because she can't get the balance she wants. Feels too bad for Perfect!Milo to have him become the one she wants, but enjoys his company. She brings him a small painting or drawing every time :D
Tbh she got too attached to Milo to try to do this with someone else anymore and results are steadily improving :^ it’s a slow, slow process though, and she still hasn’t achieved their perfect love.
She usually isn't really "Eris" in a sense most of the time. However, when she does her stuff to manipulate others/ be intimidating/ hurt others, that's when she really "Eris" in a sense. I draw her with the heterochromia when they’re in that mode for lack of a better word. :^ or when her insecurity peaks up :> After all, even under all that wanting and insecurity is still an Eris.
Milo Nicknames :3
Love
Angel
Darling
Sweet/ Sweetling
Yeobo (korean for darling/honey in married couples)
Bunny/Kitty/Puppy (Route dependant)
Mimi/ Mi (cute, shortened version of his name)
Ae Cha legit calls him like dude, bro, guy, man, girl, girlie etc just casually- she does this with everyone so Milo isn't an exception even if they are dating lmao
The funniest thing about her is that she could ACTUALLY GET BETTER by just going to therapy but no time for that when chasing a perfect love. HA BE TRAUMATISED.
#perfect love vn#perfectlovevn#about eris#erissona#the one thing about getting into niche fandoms late is that you have no idea wtf is going on#please someone explain wtf is going on with any of the rp blogs I’m so confused

I'm just going to say it after all because we're clearly thinking it.
Barbatos and Solomon were done dirty. The artist didn't make their facial features properly placed or on model. That artist also used AI on the body pillows.
Low res receipts for now

Either he has jankier feet than me (qualification to call his feet janky: bunion and feet deformity caused by hEDS) or the artist just absolutely cannot draw feet.
I'm going to out myself. I was looking forward to the Barbietoes reveal...
AI is notorious for inaccurate hand and feet anatomy so even if other things are fine this will reveal AI assistance or full AI. All of their hands and feet are indistinct and feature out of place anatomy (joints and bends where they should not be, foreshortening and limb positioning and body poses in their bodies. Barbatos looks like a dead body on side 2 but that's just a personal opinion)
Oml Solomon's fingers curse continues like wildfire

https://twitter.com/juujuulion/status/1641444591059750919
I'm going to link this person's too. My severe Barbatos induced tunnel vision makes everyone but Barbatos invisible to me.

Currently in the process of drawing our favourite demon cosplaying our favourite doctor.
Based on this under-rated pic of DT:

I made his leg slightly longer (well the one that’s not in the distance anyway) in my drawing to make him look more cartoony.
Also, what is foreshortening? I cannot process it. 😭

Hey again!
Soo I was wondering, do you do any drawing exercises to improve?? Like any perspective or foreshortening practice? Or just practicing with drawing poses? If so, can you tell me what you do? I seriously need to get better at drawing the anatomy properly. Also, I'm changing my art style yet again and I'm looking for advice :) Thanks <3
Also I love your art :>
Salutations!
(Sorry in advance if I said something wrong or if that is not helpful at all, I don’t really know how to give advices so, I’m so sorry for that)
Hm, I’m not sure how to answer that question, to be honest. Because I don’t really practice in private, and I post 99% of my new art here, whatever it is. Usually, I try new things without real practice in private and just, go with the flow. But I can’t say that’s a good thing to do.
As I said, I just go with the flow, whatever comes to my mind, I try drawing it however it will turn out, changing stuff if I don’t like something at all. And most of the time I’m not even sure what exactly I’m doing and going with this or that art.
I really want to say, that it just took me time to draw something that looks somewhat okay?
Just, draw whatever you want. Whether it is a silly, or a serious thing, something cheerful, something sad or depressing, or something in between.
If you want to draw emotions you can give yourself a theme, like the negative and positive emotions, check what emotions are in this or that list.
And just draw them, even if you're drawing just “flying heads”, your main goal is emotions. To understand how to draw them. Try to think how this or that emotion looks like in your head, or use a reference from somewhere. Or, you can draw your own emotions, what you feel at this or that moment: tiredness, sadness, happiness, etc.
Just, try new things, I know saying “don’t be afraid to try” is easier said than done (because I don’t listen to my own advices), but really. Try new things, experiment with whatever you want.
Try using references, whether it is a reference from Pinterest or any other site, or irl. These are helpful. Even pose, if you don’t want to use references from Pinterest or whatever, and if you have a big mirror, just, I know, this sounds “eh”, but you can also pose infront of a mirror yourself, and just by posing, you could see details in your own anatomy, which I believe could lead you to understand it better.
If you want to try drawing clothes, you can also use Pinterest. If you don’t want Pinterest, then who’s stopping you from drawing your own clothes?
Perspective is… uh… I can’t say anything. I never really learned it, I never really tried even, because I’m… lazy. So, I’m sorry, I cannot really say anything about it.
I’m just saying what I’ve been doing (and what I remember doing before? Though, I may have forgotten to mention something I don’t remember at the moment).
Experiment, try new things, don’t be afraid of stuff not looking good (you are learning after all) even if it may frustrate you, I understand, this may be really hard. But we all are learning and it’s okay to not know stuff.
————
And, thank you very much, I am really glad you like it! 🙏💜
Again, I am so so sorry if it was not helpful at all. Or if I said something completely wrong, I’m sure people who know art better than me would say something more helpful and in a proper way than whatever I just said. I am not a pro, I will never be one, and I just… do whatever and draw however I guess…

perspective and foreshortening is still my enemy. my brain does not comprehend it. brain is bad at rotating things and seeing in 3D
like you know how some artists only draw faces in 3/4 view or the face rotated in some other fraction idk.
i think my brain prefers straight-on or profile view because then it's less 3D. I can flatten it with less impact on the art, because the paper is flat and it makes sense for it to be flat because my brain sees it as a flat image and cannot do 3D for the life of it. i mean i can shade it to look more 3D but I just cannot get myself to draw foreshortening or perspective and have the 3D-ness "baked into" the image if that makes sense
anyway if you can't tell I'm struggledrawing after not drawing anything substantial or more than a doodle for what feels like years but is definitely not years
#missy rambles#im not going to insult myself but. hhhhhhhhh#probably didn't help that i decided on a spider to draw. of all things. this thing's got like 10 limbs

3, 6, and 20 for the art asks! :D
3. What are your favorite subjects to draw? (Ocs, your fan faves, etc.)
It’s gotta be whatever the hyperfixation is at the time hahaha right now, it’s definitely rottmnt stuff (specifically Frida and Camille, who are part tmnt characters and part oc :)) I have some other ocs I love drawing that will come in waves but it’s generally the current fixation :D
6. Favorite and least favorite angles/perspectives to draw?
Favorite angle has got to be just straight on (specifically headshots) bc that’s just what I drew for several months at one point hahaha
Least favorite angle isssss maybe just anything from the back bc I don’t draw it as much
Favorite perspective would be just a little foreshortening (is that the right word? Just making something in the foreground look bigger) ona hand or a leg or whatever to give it a little bit of coolness
Least favorite perspective is any complex one or any that I don’t have a reference for bc I cannot visualize things clearly in my head, especially posing and stuff hahaha
20. What motivates/inspires you artistically? (topics, emotions, etc.)
Music for sure (was just yesterday listening to some bangers and barely being able to do the chores I needed to bc I couldn’t stop imagining epic [haha, a pun since I was listening to epic the musical] tmnt related sequences happening) I love drawing to music and stuff and all of the art projects I really really want to do have to do with music (Queue my current secret art project- that’s getting close to being done now ^^- looming in the distance).
Thank you for the ask @lokiwaffles :)
Here are the art questions

hi i promise it looks better irl i just have a very shit camera

My first time drawing like, this big on paper. I cannot with joonghyuk's arm tho. Foreshortening, my greatest weakness. That and anatomy i guess. And your stupid coats. And expressions.
...anyway i hope its ok
i rememeber crying at this part but thing is i was in school so i just aggressively slammed the desk and my friend was like "girl chill"
It looks good for a first time drawing on a paper that size, you're doing well 👍
#//if this is a part in the novel i apologize but i haven't gotten to it yet-#🦑. inbox#kim dokja#orv

Hey, it's me againnn!
Also, I was very proud of what you did with the prompts I sent you. It wasn't what I was expecting from that prompt at all. It was better.
Firstly, thanks for the kind words <333 This is gonna be a ramble but I hope it helps!
Honestly the way I improve the most is just drawing something I know I can't at least once. Like here's some pics where I push my perspective little by little.
They don't always look right so I usually don't finish them but! I draw it once and can easily see what I don't understand about the perspective. From there I usually try to draw it again with a reference cause now I know what I need to look for in the reference, like which shapes or 3d forms go into the thing I'm drawing.
This applies to any concept you struggle to draw btw! Perspective, body types, face shapes, muscles, an animal you've never drawn before. You don't always have to go right back into with a reference handy either- especially since sometimes it's hard to find that exact pose or reference. What I've been doing is just watching my animated media and I tend to take note of how they drew the thing I struggled with. Because I struggled with it, it's a lot easier to notice when they do it my show or comic. Like when someone tells you how hotdogs are made so know you think about it every time you see one.
Well that's the general advice but for more specific things like this one I drew for my friend I simply couldn't fathom how to draw the pose so I used a 3d poser and worked out the shapes.

Just in general I also try to sketch out random poses to hopefully improve my anatomy. Doesn't have but anything elaborate as long as you're understanding the form. Sometimes limbs make no sense so it's good to glance at muscle anatomy. (I use AdoraSketch's website and MagicPoser on iOS.)

But I cannot stress enough, I do this all causally. My progress is been limb by limb. I learn to draw a specific muscle in the arm, learn to draw the jawline from an upward perspective, etc. Typing it all out makes it feel like an art class final but most improvement is subconscious. Probably my biggest advice is to keep drawing what you love. I still can't draw beefy men but my love of Nightwing keeps me crawling back every year or so. Also Laios from Dungeon Meshi. I would not bother half the time if I didn't want to draw my blorbos doing funny stuff.
#i tried to put a video of one of my time-lapses but the app won't let me do it so#boo#get ready to ramble

“Why would you want to leave?”
A bit of fanart for my dear friend @frenchiefitzhere ’s Yandere Dragon Queen series!
I cannot draw dragons for sh!+ so we’re doing Ruby’s human form whee
I went back and forth on so many colors for this and I’m still not satisfied with it but oh well better to just throw it out into the world rather than agonizing over colors
Also I am Very Bad at foreshortening and mouths I apologize deeply
