as of march 12th clip studio is on sale celebrating their version 4 release. it's an incredibly powerful drawing program you will NOT regret getting, especially if you want to ditch adobe. the sale ends in 5 days so if you were looking into getting it, now's the time

and since i see this brought up often when i make these posts:

for pc and mac users, there's a perpetual license option; you do NOT have to get a subscription to use clip studio unless you're on an ipad

you can forever own the version of the program you buy; if a future version has things you want, you will be able to upgrade for a discount

future update releases won't make your current version unusable. you simply won't have the features any new release will include. for example, i will not be upgrading from ver 3 to ver 4 because i'm not interested in the new features

pro is for illustrations, character art, concept work; ex has handy tools for comics, webtoons and animation. both can make use of their 3d assets

I've actually been doing really well! I just... I guess the best way to put it is I used up all my ideas and ran out for this fandom and these characters, or writer's blocked myself (specifically for the Pups AU), and also felt... increasingly ignored? That's not the correct word but I can't think of a better one. Basically, felt like engagement with my fics here was on the decline and I struggled to find motivation to keep going

It was nobody specific's fault. Just kind of a general trend that I saw happening.

Granted that could have been my own fault for writing more for the less popular characters but I liked the less popular characters more for being more interesting but I also am not the kind of person who can force myself to write for the most popular characters just because they're the most popular and will perform better. I wrote what inspired me and eventually the ideas just stopped flowing

And my creativity dopamine moved elsewhere

I'm still writing though! A lot, actually XD In the past year alone I've written... nearly 500k for a different fandom (113k of that was in two weeks... total lightning in a bottle and I'll never write a single fic that long that fast ever again)! I've taught myself a lot this past year since I moved to a different fandom. I'm finally (in my late twenties) learning how plot works! And how to actually have plot in my stories XD Which is something I never really could have dreamed of before. I'm improving on my use of narrative devices and richer characterization

And, tbh, the new fandom engages more. Which is very helpful for me XD It's also given me the inspiration and motivation to revamp an old novel from when I was in college (that was, objectively, Very Bad in its original form XD I was trying to make a statement with it that honestly didn't suit the rest of the narrative and this redo has been a lot better) that I'm actually making amazing progress on and might actually finish. I already finished another original novel in the past year (but it was only like 85k and I kinda wanted it to be longer but there wasn't enough story to fill out another 15k to reach 100k... so I took my lumps and used it as a learning experience)

Knowing me, one day I may binge-listen to all the audios I've missed and come back here with a vengeance - but, for now, I'm actually really, really happy with where I am

Funny you bring up the Baby Fever Era XD I have a "kidfic" AU in my new fandom too. It's a lot less popular than the Pups AU here (in fact, it's, like, the lowest numbers on AO3 out of all my fics in the new fandom and it's one of the first ones I started posting there lol), but I am hugely grateful for the, like, 5 people who enjoy it XD

So thank you for this ask! I've been well! I've been really, really happy in my new fandom! And someday I might come back here! :-D

Had a dream last night that there was a story arc where David and Angel broke up and David ended up with an entirely new listener and, like, no one was particularly happy about it and we were all making bets on how long this new listener was going to last before Angel came back despite the fact that we were assured it was a permanent change (it wasn’t but it did last a long time)

I’m one of those three people

could you possibly elaborate on this a bit more for us benji lovers 😍

I've wanted to make this for a while but unfortunately there are only like three people in the Benji fan club, but basically it's 2002 Benji learning that his future self was already around and feeling a weird mix of emotions over it. He goes up and down a little emotional rollercoaster and ends up comforted and inspired by just how much the future version of himself loved his girlfriend/future wife.

A writer friend told me something that broke my heart a little bit today; they're going to quit publishing their fanfic.

My instant thought was that they had been trolled or attacked or that something terrible had happened in their life because this person is so passionate about their writing. It wasn't any of that. Engagement with their works has been going down, as it has for many of us. Comments are like gold dust a lot of the time, and just looking through the historical comment counts on old fics on ao3 demonstrates this trend very clearly. It was not simply the comments dropping off which caused them to decide to stop posting, however.

My friend came across a discord server for their fandom (I should point out here that their fandom interest and mine diverged a couple of years ago, we stay in touch but don't currently read each other's posts because I'm not into their fandom and they would rather gouge their eyes out with a wooden spoon than read anything Star Wars) and specifically to share fic in that fandom. They joined, because we all love a good fic rec, only to discover that their latest multichapter fic, which has almost no comments and very few kudos, is being hotly discussed in this server as one of the best stories ever. Not one of these people has bothered to say this to them on the fic. When they asked, none of participants could see the point in telling the author of the fic they apparently loved so much that they love it.

This discovery has absolutely destroyed my friend's love of sharing fic. They share because they love seeing other people's enjoyment, and fic writers do that through comments and kudos/reblogs/likes because we don't get paid. There is no literary critic writing a blog post/article about how amazing the story is for us to copy and keep/frame. There is no money from royalties. All we have are the words of the people reading our works.

Those people on that server could have taken five minutes of the time they spent gushing about how amazing my friend's story was to other people and used it to tell the one person guaranteed to want to hear that praise how much they loved it. They could have taken a moment to express their opinion to the person who spent hours upon hours plotting, writing, editing, and posting those chapters. Instead, they deprived my friend of thing that keeps them sharing their writing, and in the process have killed their love of it. My friend now feels used and unmotivated.

I won't be sharing a link to their fic, they said I could share their experience but not their identity. I know they plan to post one final chapter. I know they intend to express their hurt at being excluded from the praise for the thing they created, and I know they intend to announce that as a consequence they will not be posting for a long while, if at all.

So please, I beg you, don't hide your love of a story from the writer. It's just about the only thing we have.

And. Y'all. I just stopped what I was doing (writing) and went "What did you just say?"

And I just hear him say to his friend, "My wife just got mad."

So I get up and go into the office where he's playing and repeat my question and when he repeats what he said, I said, "You are one of the smartest people I know. Shut up." And gave him a kiss on the forehead

And he repeats to his friend, "Yeah my wife just got mad that I said that."

Y'all this man can do complex math in his head really, really fast. He sits and crunches numbers on random stuff for fun

How... why... he can't just say that!

Casting for My True Love is Dead!

Hello hello! I'm looking for a handful of people to take part in an evil choir. You don't have to be a good singer, just have a good microphone (that won't cast white noise on the other performers) and a talent for being a little spooky and creepy.

Most of the main cast is already set, but I do want to have a big evil choir here! A good evil laugh is also a plus. There's no limit to the number of people in the evil choir, but I'm shooting for 5-10 voice actors. Going Mad at Sea: A Packing List.

So… I’m gonna try to write the script for the whole series and see where it goes from there

anyone notice a new trend of really entitled people joining fandom?

I feel like jerks have existed since the beginning of time, but it feels worse lately.

So far this year, I've witnessed:

People offering free unasked criticism to artists because they're not happy with the way their favourites are portrayed, stating that 'they deserve to know what they did wrong so they can improve' while the feedback they offered was 'why does everyone look like they're on ozem***' (idk if i need to tw this word)

Also giving feedback AND REVIEWS to FANFIC as if they're published works (and adding them on GOODREADS TO RATE)

People mass producing binded fanfiction and making THOUSANDS of dollars off work they did not create (they stole the artwork too)

People running incomplete fanfictions through AI because the writer wasn't updating and COMMENTING on the fic telling others to do the same so they can get an ending

And now, in the span of two days:

People trying to argue that if they can't sell binded fanfiction, then you're not allowed to commission fanart from artists either

The same people encouraging people to use AI or steal fanart for their binds

ALSO the same people openly admitting that when they typset fics, they will edit the fanfiction and change entire sentences so that it 'makes more sense to them' -- one person complained the entire fic was rough gramatically and was seeking permission not from the author but OTHER BINDERS to freely edit as they please

I'm trying to be a positive person in the communities I'm in, but GOD I am so tired. Every day I fight a battle deciding if I should just be a worse person, everyone's doing whatever the hell they want anyway.
