I am a proud Bruce Wayne can cook believer so I, a humble tumblr user, request Bruce cooking with his family.
YES. sorry that was loud. But yes 100%. i gotchu
Dick: Dick awoke to the sound of sizzling. He slipped out of bed slowly, padding down the stairs into the kitchen. Alfred was off on a little veteran excursion with old friends, and it was just him and Bruce in the manor for the week.
Bruce was standing at the stove, humming along to the soft music playing, an apron wrapped around his waist as he flipped something in a pan with one hand, messing around with a spatula in the other. He turned when Dick entered the kitchen, smiling.
"Hey chum, you're awake! Wanna help me cook some breakfast?" Dick nodded, climbing onto a chair to peek at the eggs Bruce was making. "I'm making omelets. They're simple and quick and provide you with lots of good protein and vegetables." Bruce informed him, lifting him off the chair and onto his hip instead, handing him the spatula.
"Go on, flip it." Dick laughed, leaning over the pan to flip the omelet. "Nice work chum!" Bruce cheered, sliding the finished omelets onto two plates. "Now we make some bacon- and.." Dick leaned against Bruce's chest, watching as he easily moved around the kitchen, explaining every step as he went. It was nice. Cozy. Domestic.
Jason: Jason awoke to the smell of frying bacon. He slid down the banister into the kitchen, and padded over to Bruce's side, who was leaned against the counter, drying dishes. "Hey Jay lad." Bruce greeted with a smile, bending down to lift him up. "What's up?"
"What're you making?" Jason asked around a yawn, peering around the kitchen for the source of the smell. "Oh," Bruce grinned, bending down so he could peer into the oven. "I'm making breakfast muffins. They've got bacon, eggs, cheese, and jalapeños." Jason's stomach rumbled and Bruce laughed, standing again.
"It'll be ready in a few Jay." He plopped Jason on the counter, grabbing a cookbook off the shelf. "In the meantime, wanna help me get started on this pot roast for dinner?" Jason nodded, running his hands along the old, yellowed pages of the cookbook. Bruce smiled as he watched him, collecting the ingredients.
"It was my mothers." He informed him, picking the recipe. "and one day," He bopped Jason's nose with a spoon. "It might be yours." Jason smiled.
Tim: Tim awoke to the sound of clanging dishes. That was... strange. Tim jumped out of bed, hand closing around his bo staff. His parents were off on another one of their little adventures. He was home alone. There wasn't anyone else in the house. Or, not supposed to be.
Tim crept down to the kitchen, keeping his back against the wall, before slowly peering inside. Bruce was standing at the sink, filling dirty pots and pans with soapy water, an apron wrapped around his waist, though clearly not big enough for him, so Tim assumed it belonged to the old cook who must have left it when Janet fired her.
"Uh," Tim cleared his throat and stepped into the kitchen, leaving his staff in the hallway. "Bruce? What are... you doing here?" Bruce turned to face him, smiling brightly.
"Timmy! You're awake! Lovely, sorry to drop by unannounced, but you mentioned yesterday not eating breakfast lately, and, well, I figured I'd stop by and make you something." He wiped his hands on a towel, suddenly seeming a little nervous. "If- if that's all right?" Tim nodded slowly, unsure.
"Uh, yeah- yeah no that's fine. What um, what for though?" As far as he was concerned, Robin hadn't done anything wrong lately, and he definitely hadn't done anything that warranted Bruce coming over to make him breakfast. Unless this was Bruce's way of softening the blow of firing him... Something curdled in Tim's stomach.
But Bruce smiled, set at ease again, and turned to his dishes. "Oh no reason, you just mentioned not having eaten breakfast and well," he laughed lightly, sticking a brush into the sink to help his cleaning. "Its... a little bit of a tradition, you know." He shrugged. "For me to cook something. For every Robin. You don't, uh, live at the manor, but that doesn't mean you should miss out."
Tim blinked in confusion. Bruce was... openly sharing a Robin tradition with him? That was new. Bruce sighed, apparently knowing it to, and turned back around. "I'm sorry Tim, I should... this is weird.. I should have told you I'd be coming and... you're permanent Tim."
Tim stared at him wide eyed. "I'm what?" He repeated, utterly confused and a little scared. "You're permanent." Bruce repeated, eyes utterly serious. "i know I haven't always been the best towards you, but I'm trying. I want to- I want to fix that. And be there for you. Like your parents should be. I'm not trying to replace them- I just want you to know I'm here and-"
He was rambling, words moving too fast for Tim's ear to pick up, his own cheeks flushed as his hands moved awkwardly in his haste to explain. Tim didn't care. He'd stopped listening after 'you're permanent'.
Before Bruce had a chance to react, before Tim could stop and think more about what he was doing, he was across the room, his arms wrapped around Bruce's torso. Tim's mind finally connected to his body and he tensed, waiting for Bruce to push him away, to say "no thats not what I meant"... but after a short pause, Bruce's arms wrapped around him.
He was warm and strong and solid, firm and protecting. "I've got you Tim," Bruce whispered, his breath tickling Tim's ear, but the words sweeter than anything he'd ever heard. "You're permanent."
Steph: Steph didn't know how he was in her house. She wanted to know how he'd found her much less. As Bruce Wayne, even, not as Batman. She just stared at him. At Bruce. Standing in her kitchen, awkwardly, holding a Walmart bag of groceries. He cringed, lifting said bag. "You wanna make some waffles?"
Stephanie didn't even know what her life was, anymore. Here she was, ex-robin, remade Spoiler, standing in her cramped, crappy kitchen apartment, making waffles with fucking Batman, except it wasn't Batman, it was Bruce, and he was wearing her obnoxious purple apron and was singing along to her horrible music taste and he was good at singing damn it, and he was laughing at her jokes and even making his own and he even let her lick the spoon and the waffles looked delicious and...
"Why are you here Bruce?" She asked finally, while they were waiting for the last waffle to finish, and Bruce had already moved on to do the dishes for her. "Hm?" Bruce returned, pretending like he hadn't heard her, or understood her, though she could tell by the way his shoulders tensed that he had.
"Why are you here?" She repeated, crossing her arms. Bruce sighed, shoulders slumping. "Because I messed up." He whispered quietly. Steph stilled. "What?"
"I messed up." He repeated, and returned to his scrubbing, doing it more forcefully than necessary, and not turning around to face her. "I- I shouldn't have fired you Stephanie." And that was when the world slid out from under her feet.
"W-what??" She exploded. Bruce bit his lip, knuckles white on the scrubbing brush. "It- it was wrong of me to fire you. I- I'm sorry." And any fight she was gearing up for went out of her. "I was just so mad, and- and I was missing Tim and Dick and Jason and everyone... and its no excuse." He turned, finally, meeting her eyes. "Its no excuse. Not for how I treated you, not for any of it. And, I'm sorry."
Steph stared at him, rendered speechless for the first time in her life. Bruce fidgeted under her stare, but to his credit did not move away, or break eye contact, or flee. "Why now?" She finally managed to squeeze out. Bruce sighed, and it seemed like enough of an acceptance of his apology for now that he turned around again, and resumed doing the dishes.
"I don't know. I guess... I guess because I realized I hadn't done it with you yet." he gestured to their pile of waffles. "Cooked. Cooked for you. I cook for every Robin. For every Robin I've ever had I've cooked. And I- I didn't do it for you. And its because you weren't there for very long but truly its because I didn't want to. I didn't want you to be Robin. Because that meant Tim truly was gone. Because I only get a new Robin when the old one is gone. Gone for good." He shrugged. "There's no excuse."
"Those sounded like some pretty good ones right there." Steph joked lightly. Bruce smiled at that, but still didn't turn around. "But they aren't." Steph swallowed, and slowly walked closer, taking a rag and slowly drying off the dishes he finished.
They worked in silence for a while, until all the dishes were cleaned and put away again, and Steph motioned him to sit down at her rickety old table, and served them waffles.
"I forgive you." She said finally, when they had both eaten their fill. Bruce looked at her. Clearly shocked, but... listening. Staying. She loosed a breath, leaning back in her chair the way Jason had taught her.
"I forgive you because... because you have some pretty good reasons and because... well these waffles are really good." That got a smile, a crack in his mask, and Steph smiled back before she could stop it.
"But mostly..." His smile faded and he waited. Waited. Stayed. "But mostly I forgive you because you apologized. And because I want to. Because well," She smiled ruefully. "Robin can't ever stay mad at Batman for too long can he?" Bruce smiled back, smaller, more subdued, but he smiled back. "No," The words sounded almost sorry. "No he cannot."
Damian: Damian awoke to the smell of home. But... that wasn't right. He wasn't home. Not, not at home. He was at the Manor. At Home home. But the smell...
Damian slipped out of bed, walking to the kitchen. He found Bruce, Dick, Jason, Tim, and Steph there, yelling at each other and cooking, Bruce and Jason doing the most work while Steph handed them things, Tim read stuff aloud from a big yellow cookbook, and Dick watched, occasionally sampling things and calling for more of something.
"What's going on?" Damian asked, and his words cut through the chatter like a knife. Silence fell. Damian regretted speaking immediately, wishing he hadn't come downstairs at all. But Bruce turned with a smile, still stirring something that smelled so familiar.
"Hey Dami," he greeted, nodding his head for him to come closer. "Happy Birthday. We just decided we'd get together and make you something special for breakfast." Tim nodded and he and Dick herded him to the table, sitting him down and tying a napkin around his neck.
Jason appeared from the kitchen, carrying a tray that wafted like home. "We made a bit of everything," He eldest brother said with a sheepish smile. "Wasn't sure which you'd like." He set the tray down and Damian couldn't stop the tears from welling up, not as he beheld the staples, the dishes Mama had made him. That he had shared with Grandfather.
"Wh- why? What?" Damian looked around at all the sweaty, proud, flour covered faces, beaming at him from around the table. "Do you not like?" Bruce asked in concern, brows furrowing.
"NO!" Damian returned, a little too forcefully, cheeks turning pink. "No." he said, a shade quieter. "Its lovely, but, but why?" Steph grinned, leaning over to ruffle his hair. "Because, little moon, it's Robin tradition that Bruce cooks for you. And, well, since we're fairly certain you're gonna be the last of us,"
"I don't think B's hair can take anymore." Jason grumbled. Tim snickered in agreement and Bruce smacked the back of his head with a small, fond smile as Jason ducked, laughing lightly. Steph rolled her eyes at them, winking at Damian as she continued. "We figured the rest of us would pitch in too." Dick grinned, leaning over to pour him a glass jellab. "Happy Robin Birthday Damian."

Library Dates with the Batboys
Books fill shelves all over Wayne manor, but there’s just another charm about the manor library, and who else better to enjoy it with than our favourite Batboys?
A/N: Hello precious human and other creatures! This is the first thing I’ve written after a long time and I’m honestly not sure how i feel about it. I wrote down this idea ages ago but never elaborated on it until now and I may be a little rusty. I might rewrite this later and add Bruce, Duke, Babs, Cass and other characters. I’d still really appreciate any feedback! Comments and reblogs make my heart happy. Please Enjoy!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jason Todd
◦ Jason takes you to the section of the library Bruce had built for him when he was Robin and shows you his collection.
◦ He normally reads laying in your lap with you against a wall. Sometimes he'll have you read Sherlock Holmes to him and you'll look down at him with his eyes closed as he mouths the words that he memorized from the novel.
◦ You’ll occasionally read out an incorrect word or skip a sentence just to watch his eyes open and look up to you as you smile at his reaction.
◦ Jason’s library is a section of Wayne Manor that connects to the main Manor library (which is bloody huge) and also holds an entrance to the Batcave through a series of passageways.
◦ Sometimes Jason will just take you by the hand and run off into the tunnels with you. It’s like your own little peaceful space, cordoned off from the rest of life’s trials and troubles.
◦ The two of you will sit in silence in the warm light from the windows, never on chairs, always on the floor, just enjoying each other’s company and the delights of literature.
Damian Wayne
◦ You and Damian always sit on the topmost floor of the library right by the windows in the back, hidden in a corner by the bookshelves.
◦ You have a little stack of books you chose and even pulled up little bean bag chairs.
◦ The only people who know about your secret place are you two and the animals who sometimes sneak up and cuddle with you.
◦ Damian usually tends to wear a face of indifference in front of people. He’ll smile and frown and smirk most of all but you will rarely if ever catch pure, unchecked emotion in his expressions. Except for when he’s reading.
◦ It’s one of the main reasons he perches up in this little corner. He doesn’t want anyone else to see him gasp and widen his eyes when a plot twist is revealed, or smile like an idiot when two characters finally become a couple (so basically he’s us when we read fanfiction). You of course, are an exception to this.
◦ Damian feels safe with you. Safe enough to be open with you and share his emotions with you. Safe enough to take you to his special place.
◦ Sometimes the two of you don’t even want to read. You’ll just go up there and watch the snow fall outside the windows and Damian will reminisce about his days in the mountains. Or you’ll bask in the first light of the glowy sun after a long winter.
◦ The best days are when you fall asleep reading, and Damian will put a bookmark in your book for you. Then, he carries you to your room and dozes off with you.
◦ The two of you have matching bookmarks that he made for you. Little watercolor scenes of your favorite park and the café you went to for your first date.
Tim Drake
◦ You and Tim and have a tent where you like to read.
◦ On special occasions, Tim puts fairy lights in there. The tent is behind a couch on the first floor of the manor library
◦ It was originally built from blankets and pillows and then eventually turned into a real tent (the original may or may not have been destroyed in a pillow-fight over Harry Potter storylines).
◦ Tim doesn’t really know when to stop working. He’s one of those people who will burn himself out in the cave or in school and he never really knew how to recharge when he finally did take a break.
◦ One day, he came home from school and Bruce decided that he should skip patrol for a few days and recuperate. After a long nap, he woke up with the urge to do something, and in an attempt to prevent him from working, you dragged him off to the library.
◦ You made it a habit to take him there once a week, forcefully if need be. He began to love the quality time with you and the peaceful serenity of the library so much that he gets there before you sometimes.
◦ You have a little book club almost. You both read the same book so you can talk about it with each other.
◦ Some days, you’re just too exhausted to focus on the pages, and being the sweetheart that he is, he lays your head on his chest and reads aloud to you. It makes your day when you hear him audibly gasp or change his tone when the chapter takes a turn.
◦ Of course, you two happen to be “just one more page” people. You never get enough sleep. But at least you finished the book. :D
Dick Grayson
◦ Dick and you are more or less sane.
◦ Dick sits with you at the long wooden tables in the library and reads. Sometimes he'll get up and bring you coffee or hot chocolate.
◦ On occasion he'll look up from his book to see your vivid expressions as a result of reading a dramatic scene. He lives for your nose scrunches and the goofy grins you wear when you read something sweet.
◦ You like to look up from your books to admire the architecture of the manor, as well as your boyfriend's handsome features. You remember reading a remarkably detailed description if a beautiful library in a book and looking up at the ceiling of the manor library. Your eyes wandered to the woodwork on the shelves and the rows upon rows of books heading up until you reach the window-lit ceiling. Although you didn’t know it yet, Dick looked up from his book to admire the wonder in your eyes.
◦ He loved these days. It’s not that well-known but he loves to read. The two of you met in a library while he was on a case and you were trying to pass your midterms. One thing led to another and here you are.
◦ When you finally catch his stare, you blush and look at him questioningly. “What…?”
◦ “You’re really cute, you know that?”
◦ *more blushing*

Siblings: Chapter One
AO3
Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4
Summary: The Bats reflect on how their thoughts about siblings have changed over the years. Some opinions stayed, others didn't.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dick always wondered what it’d be like to have a little brother or sister.
He recalled asking his parents why he didn’t have one. Not accusatory, just curious.
His mother had smiled and said that they had their hands full plenty with Dick, and he was all they needed. His father, while still kind, said that they didn’t really have the time or resources in the circus at the moment to add another child to the family.
Dick was disappointed, but he understood the reasons.
Even still, he’d find himself staring at the kids that watched the acts with awe. Older kids lighty taunted their younger siblings, ruffling their hair and pretending they were too good for it all, and that they were doing their siblings a favor by being there. Kids who nudged their brother or sister to distract and steal the snacks from concession stands, later whispering words that’d make the other gape or giggle. Young children holding their sibling who was of toddler age or younger, pointing towards parts of the acts, their glee growing upon seeing the excitement of their sibling.
Dick hadn’t been lonely growing up in Haly’s Circus, he had his parents and the other people who worked there, from the handlers to the clowns to the tricksters.
And yet, he still found himself watching the kids who’d come in with one, or even two or three, brothers and sisters, taunting and laughing and sharing their wonder.
A sibling would’ve been nice, he thinks mournfully. It might’ve even been fun.
Ah, well. At least he had the circus.
,
“Hey, hey Dick. Dick. Dick, lookit.”
“If I turn around and I see you about to push Damian off the roof, I’m breaking your helmet.”
“You wouldn’t.”
Dick sighed, turning back from where he was keeping an eye on the streets below. Jason, who’d only been a few feet away, immediately took this moment to seize Tim, who had been too busy looking through his binoculars to care about whatever the two had been doing, and proceed to chuck him off the roof.
Dick pinched the bridge of his nose with a groan as Tim’s undignified shriek was cut off by him catching himself on a fire escape below, scrambling to get a good hold on so he didn’t fall the rest of the way.
“What?” Jason huffed. “You said not to push Damian, and I didn’t push Damian.”
“Of course,” Dick replied sarcastically. “My mistake, I’ll be sure to rephrase it as don’t push anyone off the roof.”
“Now that’s just unreasonable,” Jason huffed, hand on his hip as Steph and Cass snickered from the nearby chimney they were perched on. “I can think of plenty of people who deserve to be pushed off roofs. Like Scarow, for example. Bastard made me break my good hand last month and I still need to shoot a bullet in his back for that one.”
“Then don’t push your family off roofs, is that enough for you?” Dick sighed, standing up and peering over the edge of the roof. “You alright down there, Tim?”
“Names,” Damian finally chastised, not once having glanced over to the others from where he was on the corner of the roof, farthest as he could get from them.
“Oh, sure, now you worry.” Tim grumbled from the fire escape, finally pulling himself to his feet and brushing himself off. “Dick, please tell me I have permission to stab out Jason’s eye.”
“You do not.”
“He’d be fine!” Tim complained, snagging a hand on the stairs and instead pulling himself up along the outside of the fire escape instead of walking up the steps like a normal human being. “Harper could probably make him a new functional one in two days if she's in a good mood.”
“I’m not making him a new eye in two days. Maybe two weeks.” Harper informed from the other side of the roof, also ignoring the others as she tinkered with some gadget.
“Get anywhere near me and I’ll cough on you,” Jason threatened, also peering down off the roof. “You have basically no immune system, you’d die in a week. A long, painful death. Poetic cinema, really.”
“If you say it's poetic because you were beaten with a crowbar for two hours, I’m dropkicking you.” Steph warned, eyes narrowed.
“You’re so mean to me,” Jason gasped, placing a hand on his chest as he turned. “What did I ever do to deserve this? I’m nice to you!”
“No, you’re not.” Chorused Dick, Tim, Damian, Steph, and an extra voice through their earpieces.
“Wow, thanks, Babs.” Jason grumbled. “Showing up just to bully me, typical.”
“Names,” Damian warned a second time.
“If it makes you feel any better,” Babs crackled through their earpieces. “You’re not the only one I bully.”
“Everyone please stop harassing Jay,” Dick pleaded, though it came out more as an exhausted sigh.
“Names,” Damian growled a third time, losing his patience.
“I know it's fun,” Dick continued, ignoring him. “But this is supposed to be a scouting mission, and I’d rather he didn’t start taking out petty revenge during patrol.”
“I have no idea why he’s so surprised we get bored when scouting,” Steph mumbled quietly, to which Cass simply shrugged.
“You have no faith in me,” Jason snorted, and Dick could tell he was rolling his eyes under his helmet.
“I have plenty of faith in you,” Dick soothed. “I also, however, know how you are.”
“Don’t worry,” Steph raised a hand. “I already lost faith in you when you tried to kill Tim.”
“Which time?”
“Steph, don’t taunt him. Do it back at the Manor.” Dick lightly scolded.
“How many times do I have to repeat this?” Damian snapped, whirling from his post to glare at the others. “We do not use names on patrol!”
“Doesn’t Jon call you D on patrol?” Harper raised a brow, glancing towards him.
“That is different! He does not use my actual name!”
“Hypocrite,” Jason coughed under his breath.
Tim finally swung back onto the roof, skillfully rolling and dodging when Jason attempted to immediately kick him off again. Tim rolled close to the chimney, quickly pulling out his bo staff and crouching, glaring at Jason. It was reminiscent of two cats in a standoff, arched backs but neither of them making the first strike yet.
“Do not fight,” Cass said calmly.
“Thank you, C--” Dick hesitated, glancing at Damian for a brief moment. “--Orphan.”
“Fight in Cave,” Cass continued cheerfully. “We have sparring mats for reasons.”
“And I take that back.”
“You wanna hang with the cool kids?” Steph asked, leaning off the chimney to offer her hand.
“Yes. Have I mentioned you’re my favorite person?” Tim grinned, putting his staff away as he took the offered hand and was pulled onto the chimney beside Steph and Cass.
“You could stand to say it more often,” Steph teased.
“Cheaters,” Jason grumbled, relenting that fighting both Steph and Cass to get Tim was a losing battle.
The three were rather squished on the chimney, but none of them seemed to mind. Harper only rolled her eyes and went back to tinkering.
“We really need to bring D--Signal on one of these things.” Dick muttered, shaking his head.
“Because he’s sensible, or because you want him to suffer like the rest of us?” Tim raised a brow.
“Because he deserves the same family bonding time.” Dick said simply.
“Duke and Cullen are next to me listening in on this,” Barbara said through the communicators. “I am here to inform you that Duke is both touched and terrified.”
“The bumblebee was awake and didn’t even bother to join us?” Harper snorted. “Rude.”
“Cullen agrees with you.”
“He better,”
“I’m taking a ten hour nap after this,” Dick complained, sitting back on the edge of the roof, legs dangling in the open air as he leaned back dramatically on his hands. “I deserve it. Self-care and all that.”
“That is the length of a normal amount of sleep.” Damian raised a brow.
“Not in this family, it’s not.”
“Preach!” Tim pumped a fist.
“You don’t count, Tim.” Dick chastised, leaning his head back to look at Tim upside down. “Everyone here remembers to sleep at the latest once every two days. You don’t sleep for five.”
“I’m being harassed,”
“You’re being bullied into a proper sleep schedule.”
Damian suddenly whacked Dick over the head, startling him with a yelp as Jason hid a snicker. Harper and Cass looked over for a moment before continuing with whatever they had previously been doing.
“Names!” Damian hissed. “Do you all want your identities revealed?”
“Literally nobody is here,” Harper pointed out.
“If Gotham hasn’t found out our identities by now, they never will.” Steph snorted.
“Especially finger-stripes over here.” Tim added, a smug expression on his face.
“A nine-year-old finds out your identity one time and you never hear the end of it.” Dick muttered under his breath before sitting up and proceeding to snatch Damian, who had been previously stalking towards the others, by wrapping an arm around his chest and tugging him closer as the boy squawked.
“You were using a Flying Grayson move, dude.” Tim deadpanned. “You gotta pay the price for being flashy for no other reason than because you can.”
“That’s his entire personality.”
“Why do you all hate me?” Dick whined, holding a squirming Damian close as he gave the boy a noogie. “What did I do to gain such torment?”
“You want the list?” Harper looked up, finally putting away whatever she was tinkering with.
“We alphabetized,” Cass added.
“Wrote on the front and back,” Steph nodded sagely.
“I’m adding three more to the list when we get back,” Damian growled, looking ready to bite Dick if he didn’t stop soon.
“You better be joking about that list,” Dick warned, releasing Damian for his own safety. “Because if I ever find a list of reasons to be mean to me, I will not show mercy.”
“Do you mean you’re gonna attack us physically or emotionally?” Jason inquired.
“Emotionally,”
“You sick bastard.” Steph whispered in horror. “I can’t believe you would use your powers for evil.”
“Does it make it any better if I tell you the list, if it does exist, would probably only exist so that when we notice someone looks like they’re gonna do something stupid, we use the list to remind them of something you did so they take it out on you and not, say, turn all of Gotham into a gang war zone.” Harper said slowly.
“I hate you,” Steph glared. “You mess up one time--”
“You died, Steph!” Tim exclaimed, before getting a batarang chucked at his head that Damian somehow snuck into his utility belt.
“She didn’t even die,” Jason snorted, crossing his arms. “Both of you two had lame fake-out deaths.”
“Why am I the one who’s become the punching bag?” Dick complained, holding Damian back again when he tried to grab the batarang Tim had dodged and threw it again.
“Because you’re actually good at feelings and everyone else is emotionally constipated.” Harper deadpanned.
“And the Ric incident.” Damian added right after, giving up in his thrashing. A shutter passed over the Bats at the mention of the name.
“Aw,” Dick’s face softened, ignoring the Ric comment. “You guys care about my advice?”
“Congrats,” Barbara chuckled slightly. “You’re the therapist brother.”
“Don’t tell him that,” Jason groaned, flopping backwards on the roof. “Now he’s going to be mushy and clingy all week.”
“Lord knows you idiots need it,” Harper huffed as Dick practically glowed.
“I’m sicing him on you later.”
“Jokes on you, he hasn’t found my apartment yet.”
“Yes I have,” Dick raised a hand, turning towards her. “Well, Robin found it, but I still know it.”
Harper stared at him for a few moments, momentarily turning her head to Damian for a moment before going back to Dick, and then turning to Jason.
“You’re a monster,” She whispered, a look of true horror on her face.
“I know,” Jason cackled gleefully.
“None of you are leaving the Manor when we get back.” Dick said matter-of-factly, pointing a finger to his siblings. “We’re gonna bond, and you’re going to like it.”
“We’re already bonding right now!” Damian protested.
“You’ll have to kill me first.” Steph hissed, shying behind Cass.
“Bold of you to assume you can keep me confined to the Manor.” Tim huffed in offence. “Orphan, I’ll stash you in one of my safe houses if you promise to be my bodyguard.”
“Deal,”
“You guys are so dramatic--”
“Hey, guys? Crazed pyromaniac with flamethrowers to the north.”
The group immediately dropped whatever they had been doing, heads snapping up towards the direction Barbara had tiredly informed them of the attack.
It was only a few moments before the sight of flames peaked over one of the buildings, dying out almost immediately. Shouts and rumbles were steadily growing in volume, especially the cackling of Firefly, likely revving up whatever weapon he’d acquired this time.
“Fantastic, can’t even keep watch with you morons.” Damian growled.
“Oh you are not the only one trying to work here!” Tim snapped. “Orphan, for example, is doing a wonderful--where’d she go?”
He and Steph looked around rapidly, their sister suddenly missing from the chimney. How they hadn’t noticed she’d left their crowded space was a mystery that’d likely never be solved.
“Over there,” Jason said boredly, upholstering a gun and pointing across the rooftops.
The outline of Cass’s body could be seen sprinting across the roofs towards where the fire had been spotted, leaping with reckless abandon.
“Life lesson for the rest of you,” Harper hummed, getting to her feet. “Be like Cass.”
“Stop using real names!” Damian barked.
“Last one there is on cleanup duty!” Steph hollered, shoving Tim and taking off in the same movement.
“Asshole!” Tim yelled as Jason, Harper and Damian all bolted after her without a moment's hesitation.
Dick laughed, just getting to his feet as Tim stumbled up and after the others, swearing obscenities.
He quickly ran after his siblings, though he strayed a little further back, nobody paid attention to who showed up last anyway, his eyes darting from each of his siblings. Someone had to make sure they didn’t face-plant off a roof.
They shouted over each other as they descended down to take out Firefly. The guy had really picked a bad night to start causing trouble. It’d be over in no-time.
Even still, Dick paused on the roofs, scanning the streets below as the others ran to and fro, yelling over each other as Barbara switched between the coms to talk to them. It was a chaotic mess and Dick found himself grinning at it all.
His siblings were a hot mess, and it was amazing.

It’s finally the New Year! What other way to celebrate than to write for Day 1 of @timari-month-event New Years Day? :D
Day 1 : New Years Day

Cass poked her head through the common room’s doorway, surprised to see that Dick had managed to have everyone over at his apartment.
To be honest, Cass thought he wouldn’t be able to get everyone under one roof. Then again, this was Dick, everyone’s favorite person...well, almost everyone’s.
“Cass, so that's where you’ve been.” Kate said from behind her, Cass turning to see her ‘aunt.’ “This is your first time, isn’t it? Celebrating New Years, that is.” Cass nodded at that.
She honestly didn’t know what to think about this “New Years” celebration Dick wanted everyone to be a part of, how excited he was to be able to greet the new year as a family.
It was just another event that only marked the end of a year and the beginning of another. Why celebrate it?
Cass snapped from her thoughts when Kate chuckled, placing a hand on her shoulder. “It’s alright Cass. Don’t think too hard about it. Just enjoy yourself. Perhaps you’ll understand then.”
Cass nodded, watching as Kate walked away to join the others.
She watched as she sat diagonally from Bruce, Selina and Alfred, the quartet of adults observing the other “supposed” adults and children.
“Grapes? Why would you wish using grapes? They don’t hold any magical power.” Damian asked as Dick handed him a bowl with 12 grapes in jt.
“Good question. Why grapes?” Duke asked no one, proceeding to just eat them. “Why not star fruit?”
“I-I actually don’t know.” Dick shyly confesses, deciding to just leave the grapes at the center of the coffee table for people to just grab.
“It actually started as an advertising tactic for farmers to sell their grape harvests in the 19 century in Spain.” Jason said, eyeing his own bowl of 12 grapes. “Later on in the early 20th century, the grapes symbolize good luck, so the people started to eat them after the start of a New Year in hopes of having good luck.”
“In other words, wishful thinking and superstition?” Stephanie asked.
“Yup.” Jason munched on a few grapes. “ there are a few people who additionally do it to ward off evil.”
“So just superstition.” Duke clarifies. “What a waste of good grapes.”
“-can believe it! There’s only five minutes left until the new year!” The woman on the television screen squealed, capturing everyone's attention. The screen then switched cameras to show the packed street of Times Square, hundreds -if not thousands- of people waving at the camera as it panned around them.
“Does everyone have their glass of champagne?” Dick asked, watching as everyone lifted their glass. “Babs, I thought you didn’t drink?”
“And neither does Tim, Damian, Duke and Steph and yet you still gave them one.” Dick started to panic at that.
After all, they’re still minors, even if by a few months away from being either 21 or 18.
“Damian, Duke, Steph, Tim! I need those- wait. Where is Tim?” Dick asked.
“Wait, he was invited?” Jason asked.
“Of course I did! He’s part of the-“
“Three minutes left!”
“Well, too late to ask him to join us. Well just have to greet the new year without him.” Steph said.
“His lost.” Damian added, keeping a grin to himself.
“One minute!”
“FaceTime?” Dick asked, the family ignoring him as they intently watched the woman on the screen beginning to count down.
Cass watched Dick panic around while the rest of the family continued to watch the television.
She noticed Bruce and Selina signal her to come closer, which she did, the two of them pulling her to sit in between them.
Cass fidgeted a bit, adjusting to the affection.
“Ten! Nine! Eight! Seven!”
“Are we really-“
“Five! Four! Three!
Two!
One!
Happy New Year!” The lady announced, hugging her news partner.
“Happy New Year.” The family said in unison, lifting their glasses in sync before everyone took a sip. Of course, a few idiots chugged it down.
Or at least attempted to.
As soon as Jason had chugged half of his champagne, he sputtered about, Babs chuckling in the back while Duke and Steph tried to help him.
“Todd. How dare you waste-“
“Replacement.” He wheezed out, pointing to the screen. “He’s-“ he then began to cough.
Everyone turned to look at the screen wondering what he meant because there on the screen were just couples kissing. Tim wasn’t-
“Well you look at that.” Selina said with a grin.
“Is he serious?” Duke asked, burying his face into his hands.
“Apparently so.” Steph grinned.
There, the farthest corner of the screen was Tim, or rather, Red Robin kissing a girl who wore a hoodie that resembled Red Robin’s. Midnight hair peeled from out of the hood and she wore a red domino mask.
“Did anyone know he was going to do this?” Kate asked. Everyone turned to Alfred.
“Master Tim only told me he was visiting his girlfriend. He never told me he was going to pull this stunt.” Alfred took a sip of his tea. “But we should congratulate the chap. He may not be celebrating with us, but at least he’s celebrating the New Year with someone he loves.”
-How it happened-
Tim was double checking his list, making sure he had everything before heading downstairs.
Despite Dick wanting everyone over at his apartment to spend New Years Eve together, Tim already had plans, plans he had arranged weeks prior.
“Master Tim. Are you heading out?” Alfred asked him, Tim taken aback by Alfred’s...lack of a suit. “Master Tim?”
“Sorry Alfred. It’s just...I’ve never seen you out of a suit so...it suits you.” Was all Tim was able to say. Instead of his tidy and fitted butler suit, Alfred was wearing a very...grandfatherly outfit.
White shirt, gray cardigan, brown jacket and a dark gray pair of slacks. A pair of loafers and a flat cap sealed the deal.
“Well, Miss Marinette gifted me this jacket this Christmas. I thought I would wear it for this occasion. The inner pocket is my favorite detail.”
Alfred showed Tim the inner pocket, the pocket having different swirl embroidery. But upon a closer inspection, each different colored thread was a different family member’s name. Tim’s name was embroidered in a steel blue.
“What a very Marinette thing for her to do.” Tim said with a smile, beaming at her talent. That’s when he remembered about where he was heading. He took out his phone and fought a scowl when he realized he was running behind schedule.
“Judging by your scowl, I’m guessing you’re late to where you’re heading to.”
“I am a bit behind schedule. But I’ll manage.” Tim said, shifting the bag on his shoulder. He didn’t know why, but something told him to say it. “I’m going to New York to meet up with Marinette. We've been planning this for a few months and thought we should meet up for New Year’s Eve. We’ve got a few places in mind and we’re hoping everything-“
“It’s going to be fine.” Alfred assures Tim, not once mentioning his rambling. “Now go. You wouldn’t want to make Miss Marinette wait any longer, now would you?”
Tim nodded, saying goodbye to Alfred and running to catch the nearest cab to get to the nearest bus to take him to New York.
After a two hour trip, Tim stood by an odd mechanism trapped inside an acrylic case.
He wanted to make sure where he was headed before leaving the 42 St Port Authority. After all, he had only been to Times Square a few times in his life.
“Tim!” Marinette called out, Tim looking up from his phone to see Marinette running up to him.
A grin grew on his face as he caught Marinette, twirling her.
“Hey. Aren’t you half an hour early?”
“Maybe you're just late.” Marinette grinned.
Tim sighed at the Into the Spiderverse reference until he noticed her outfit.
She was wearing a red dress, the most obvious piece, but it was her wrap cape that caught his attention. The front piece was red in color while the rest of the cape was black. But it was the hidden accents of gold and the single golden robin crest at the center that intrigued him the most.
“Is that-“
“A Red Robin inspired outfit?” Marinette grinned. “Yes, yes it is. After all,” Marinette leaned over Tim’s ear. “He’s my favorite.” She purred, fighting off a giggle when she saw Tim’s face red from ear to ear.
“We should be on our way.” Tim managed to say, leading Marinette out the building and onto Edge Tower.
—
The duo went on their mini date at Edge Tower, Marinette not surprised when she found out that Tim rented out the entire place for the hour.
Marinette ran up to the edge of the balcony, not believing how high up they were. While Ladybug was able to get up on high places like this with ease, it was a whole different experience as Marinette.
She leaned into the cold air, a smile across her face as the wind blew.
“You’d think you’d get used to things like this.” Tim said, as if reading her mind, leaning against the rail right next to her.
“But no matter how many times you see the same view, it’s always breathtaking.” Marinette replied, turning to face him.
“Just like you are.” Tim enjoyed the way Marinette flushed red, causing him to chuckle. He tucked a loose hair strand behind her ear. “How about we take a picture to remember this?”
And so they did.
—
The thing with it being New Years Eve, all the places were packed, even otherwise empty food courts and the edge of the Hudson River.
After a while, the two ended up heading back to Times Square, a decision they soon regretted.
They ended up being caught in the swarm of people who had been camping in the area for a day...or two...or three…
One of them thought they had already been there and allowed them to slip through and by the time the duo realized that they were being pushed further deeper into the area, it was too late for them to get out. More people started to gather around them, the area packed to the brim with New Yorkers and tourists alike.
Seeing as they were stuck there, Marinette and Tim decided to make the best of it and went along with the crowd, waiting for hours until a few minutes were left before the start of the new year.
“Hey Tim.”
“Yeah?”
“I’m...I’m kinda glad we decided to meet here today.”
“So do I. Although, I do feel guilty for not telling Dick that I wasn’t going to be able accept his invitation to spend the eve with him and the rest of the family.” Tim confessed, Marinette giving his hand a squeeze.
They remained like that for a while before Tim turned to her.
“Marinette, there’s something I have to say.”
“What is it?”
“I just wanted to say, thank you. Thank you for being by my side this year.” He heard someone say that there were three minutes left. He cupped her face between his hands. “Thank you for being part of my life.”
As Tim leaned forward, Marinette stopped him, Tim wondering if he did something wrong. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to-“
“Tim. I think you’re forgetting something.” Marinette said, placing a domino mask over his eyes and one on herself. “There. Now the press won’t be bothering you tomorrow.”
“The press? Why-“
“Tim. How did you forget that you're the CEO of Wayne Enterprise? Seriously, how can you forget that?” Marinette huffed.
It was then that the two realized that the crowd had begun to count down.
“Ten! Nine! Eight!”
“Should we pick up where we left off?” Marinette asked, letting out a yelp when Tim brought her closer to him.
“Six! Five ! Four!”
“Let’s.” Tim’s said, leaning forward towards Marinette.
“Two!
One!”
Their lips met.
“HAPPY NEW YEAR!”

The Bats playing Among Us Headcanon:
Because I’m bored and failing school, so why not imagine how chaotic it would be if the Bats started playing everyone’s new favorite game?
Duke was the first to introduce the family to it
He mentioned the game to Tim on patrol, and came home to a set up of computers in the Bat Cave
It started off just being Tim, Duke, Dick, and Steph playing with random people, but eventually, the rest of the fam joined
It is no longer a game. It is war
Bruce:
When his kids first mentioned it, he immediately knew this would be another chaotic video game that has his children at each other’s throat
Mario Kart and Monopoly got banned from the Manor for this exact reason
He still caves and plays, though
Does not understand the game whatsoever
“Why is my name red on the screen?”
Pretends to not be okay with the killing “I don’t see why I can’t just tie people up and put them in the vents?”
But everyone sees the small smile he has when he kills someone
It’s slightly alarming
Mostly just there so Damian and Jason don’t attack anyone
Dick:
Only one who genuinely just enjoys the game and gets no stress from it
Horrible imposter
Like so so bad
Kills someone then struggles to get into a vent
Not to mention he starts giggling when someone reports one of his bodies
A good teammate though
A little too trusting
Jason: “Hey, Dick, come watch me do a scan?” Dick: “Sure!” [five min later] Tim: *reports Dick’s body in med bay*
This incident happens almost every round Jason is imposter and Dick falls for it every time, without fail
Babs:
Pretends to think the game is stupid, but secretly loves it
If she keeps getting crewmate, she proceeds to hack the game
It annoys the crap out of everyone, but they let it slide anyways
Really good at tasks
“How did you already finish all your tasks?! I’m still trying to swipe!”
She’s okay at killing people, but a little too good at sabotages
The second she gets kicked off the ship for being imposter, no one is getting anything done
It’s constant melt downs and locked doors
Jason
It’s a hit or miss when Jason is imposter
Either he’s too good, or it’s just maniacal laughing as he kills all his siblings
Once spent an entire game just chasing Bruce around
When he got kicked off, he ended up being a crewmate, but just wanted to “fuck with him”
Accuses EVERYONE
If he’s a crewmate, just spends the entire game following everyone around to catch them in the act
You know he got killed when he starts cussing out the computer and screaming in the ghost chat
Not a snitch though, so he keeps his mouth shut
It’s absolute hell when he gets imposter with Damian. No one stands a chance
Stephanie:
Steph gets very passionate about Among Us
She takes the game extremely seriously
100% will scream at someone if they get killed
“YOU ARE THE REASON WE ARE LOSING! ARE YOU HAPPY?! HUH?”
If the other imposter doesn’t back her up, she’ll rat em out
“If I can’t win, neither can you, bitch.”
Has got kicked off the game for doing this, but still does it
Tim:
He knows
He always knows
No one can understand how he’s able to tell who the imposter is so quickly
“It’s Jason.” “The game just started-” “Just trust me on this one. It’s Jason.” “Goddammit Tim.”
Makes a pretty good imposter, unless he gets paired up with Damian
Then all hell breaks loose
“Hey Damian, why’s your name red?”
A fight 100% will break out between them
Cass:
Literally the silent killer
No one ever suspects her, and she uses it to her advantage
If she’s imposter, the game will last, like, five min
Her and Damian got paired up once
It was the quickest game they’ve ever played
They are no longer allowed to be the imposter at the same time, one of them has to fess up
If she’s a crewmate, she literally only focuses on her tasks
“Cass, did you just walk past a body?” “Yup.” “Why?” “I didn’t care about it.”
Doesn’t play all the time, but enjoys watching everyone else play instead
Duke:
Was under the impression that this would be a peaceful, fun game to play with his family
He has never been so wrong
But he adapts quickly
Very good at deceiving the rest of the family
Like Cass, no one expects it to be him
Will literally never admit to being imposter
“Duke, you literally vented right in front of us.” “No I didn’t.” “Dude, we saw you-” “Sounds like something an imposter would say.”
The crewmate who yells at everyone to finish their tasks
Damian:
This child is a little too good at being imposter
Keeps a poker face the entire time
WAY too good with his kills and sabs
Even if he’s not the imposter, Jason and Tim gang up and start accusing him during the meetings, just to get on his nerves
This is why he kills them first
Pretends to think the game is childish
Secretly plays by himself, like, all the time
100% bullies people in the ghost chat
Alfred:
Alfred does not do video games, but Cass managed to convince him to play, just once
No one knows what happened
The game barely started, and all of a sudden, everyone was dead and Alfred won
He didn’t hack it either, so no one knows how he managed to do that
To this day, it remains a mystery
The game ends up getting banned from the Manor after Jason and Damian arrange a “Real Life Version of Among Us”, and they’re the imposters, except they didn’t tell anyone about it. Let’s just say Tim almost did not make it out alive
#did i rlly just skip doing my stats hw to make a headcanon that will prob get like 2 notes?#yes#yes i did#ive been playing this game weekly with my friends#and it is CHAOTIC#but very fun#ik im a little late to this trend but oh well#should i do an avengers version next?#i think i just might#depending on how this one ends up doing#bruce wayne#batman#duke thomas#signal#dick grayson#nightwing#jason todd#red hood#barbara gordon#batgirl#stephanie brown#spoiler#cassandra cain#black bat#damian wayne#robin#alfred pennyworth#batfamily#batfam#bat siblings

Maribat March Day 6: Miraculous Side Effects
ao3
@maribatmarch-2k21
Marinette Wayne had come back to the manor for Winter Break. It had been slightly over a year since she had last visited. Usually, she spent both summers and winters at the manor and returned to Paris for the school year, however, with the whole Hawkmoth situation she hadn’t been to the Manor since the summer before last. Her family knew she was Ladybug, she had told them pretty much straight away so that they could help with her and Cat Noir’s training. They had ended up planning the whole thing over video calls and dad had given her a list of teachers in Paris she could learn from. She also already had the basic defence lessons her family had found necessary, which was admittedly a lot more than what a normal family would consider necessary. But no one ever claimed that the Bats were a normal family. She missed her older siblings. Being the youngest of the bunch, with Damian being two years elder to her, wasn’t always fun. She occasionally felt left out especially since she didn’t live in Gotham nor was she a vigilante, but she knew they all tried their best to drag her into their chaos. Marinette did occasionally walk away from that chaos, but only when she knew joining them would incur Alfred’s wrath and no one sane wants that. Not that she would be classified as sane by anyone outside Gotham.
She had finally managed to come to Gotham this year as there was a team of heroes in Paris, instead of just her and Cat, and she would be needed only in the case of an Akuma attack. Marinette, however was slightly worried, she had spent all of last winter sluggish because of the low temperatures. Ladybugs hibernate at temperatures below 35°F, Paris thankfully didn’t hit such low temperatures, but Gotham tends to reach temperatures below 30°F. Slightly extended exposure to those temperatures and she would fall into hibernation, she could be woken up but it would take time and warmth to do so.
She had told Alfred before her arrival. She had thought he would be able to help most after dealing with their stubborn family and their injuries for years now. Cass had asked Marinette herself when she noticed that the longer she spent in colder temperatures the more sleepy she became and Marinette had told Cass. Cass had accepted the answer and moved on. Not mentioning it to her later, and Marinette assumed if anything happened the two of them would take care of telling the others and didn’t bother with telling the rest of the family.
Her break went well. The first three weeks of her vacation went without any problems. She stuck to doing day patrols with Duke, when the temperatures were higher and it wouldn’t affect her too much. She spent time with all her siblings. Hung out with Jason in the library whenever he was in the library with her sketch book and convinced him to take her out on his bike on one of the warmer days. Dick taught her the trapeze at her request. She and Tim just casually spent time with each other, with Cass occasionally joining in. Stephanie dragged her out on a shopping trip with Babs and Cass for a whole day right before Christmas. She spent time with Damian by helping him with his several pets. She joined Alfred every morning to help with breakfast and dragged her dad to spend time with him whenever she felt he wasn’t letting loose enough. She ended up dragging him around quite often.
On her last week there, She and Jason were hanging out in the Library after dinner and before Jason had to leave for Patrol, and while Marinette realised it was cold she didn’t think too much of it, she was inside the manor, she doubted the temperature would drop down that much. However, someone had left a window open and Marinette fell asleep while Jason was too absorbed in his book to notice.
.oOo.
Jason had been in the Library along with Marinette for nearly an hour, reading, when he suddenly realised it was starting to get unbearably cold. Getting up he found that a window a slight bit away from them had been left open. Closing it, he returned to his spot to find that Marinette had fallen asleep. Chuckling, he lifted her up easily and carried her to her room where he tucked her in and left to join the others in the cave for Patrol and didn’t think much of it.
Sometime around one in the afternoon, the next day, Bruce asks, “Has anyone seen Marinette today?”
“She was sleeping when I checked in on her a few hours back, I just thought she had slept late and left her alone, she doesn’t tend to sleep for long she should be up soon,” Dick answers.
“But she wasn’t awake last night,” both Tim and Jason say at once.
Tim continues, “Alfred asked me to check on her before I went to bed, since she usually checks in on him and she hadn’t done so last night, she was sound asleep in her bed.” He then looks at Jason silently questioning when he had last seen Marinette.
“She fell asleep while we were in the library, and I put her in bed, that was before I came down to the cave for Patrol, so maybe around 10?”
“Shit. That’s been nearly fourteen hours, she barely sleeps seven on a good day.”
And then they all rush to check on her.
.oOo.
Stephanie walks into Wayne manor to find absolute chaos; the boys keep screaming at each other and her attempts to find out why are in vain. She heads to the kitchen to find Alfred; he’s making tea calmly while the other occupants of the manor run around like headless chickens.
“Hey Alfie, why are the rest of them running around in a panic?”
“Hello Miss Stephanie, I believe Miss Cassandra informed you of Miss Marinette’s hibernation problems,” she nods and he continues, “I think Miss Marinette believed that Miss Cassandra had told the rest of the family and didn’t bother with telling them herself. Last night, she was sitting in the library with a window open and she fell into hibernation.”
“Oh, why don’t you just tell the others, won’t it help wake Nette up?”
“I’ve already turned up the thermostat in her room and ensured that she has enough blankets, she should be awake in a few hours. As for why I haven’t informed the masters, I’m hoping this teaches them a lesson about hiding injuries. Would you like a cup of tea, Miss Stephanie?”
Steph laughs and accepts his offer and asks him if she can stay for dinner. She doesn’t want to miss out on the mayhem that is going to be unleashed when Marinette wakes up. Maybe that’s why Cass didn’t tell the boys.

#BadassJasonPartyIsOver
Jason Todd x Reader
Summary:You and Jason just start dating and the rest of the family finds out.
Cute/fun/fluffy
Note:
Jason has not died and has not become Red Hood yet in this AU
Selina is your godmother. You are the child of Selina’s childhood friend. There is no family relationship between you and Jason even though you live in Wayne Manor. She calls you KitKat a nickname for your hero name: Black Cat.
Inspired by:
@capricornprince118‘s post
@telling-lies-co‘s post
Cass’s Text Section by @fanfic-suspicious-bluejay post
“So, do we tell your family?” you ask. “They’re a bunch of detectives, they can figure it out themselves. What’s going to change between us anyway?” You shrug, “I don’t know.”
The beginning of your relationship felt like the start of any other day. Nothing changed with how you two interacted with each other. You two still went to school with each other every day, you two didn’t treat each other any differently. The public displays of affection; hand-holding, arms around each other, and others didn’t happen until later.
You, Jason, and Roy still hung out as usual. Jason made a post of you three at the beach. Jason asked a stranger to take the picture. The sun was setting in the background, Jason was between you two, Roy had his arm around Jay with a peace sign at the camera, Jason had his arm around you and Roy with a big stupid grin, and you had both arms around Jason trying not to ruin your waffle cone. The picture was cute. Roy went off to grab some food while you sat on the railing of the pier eating your ice cream as Jason stood next to you making a post with the picture:
“Out with my best friend and girl. She really wanted to go to the boardwalk to see the sunset, I thought she was being cliché, but I can never say no to her.” He typed a heart at the end of the caption. Deleted it. Tried a kissy face. Deleted it. Re-read it again and just posted it as a caption.
“Jason.”
“Yeah?” he puts his phone away in his back pocket. Then placing his hand on your thigh, he looks up at you.
“Thanks for this.”
“No problem.” He gives you a soft smile. You smile in return, getting lost in his blue eyes. There was a new sparkle in his eyes. Looking at him, being with him, it made you happy.
You push your hair out of your eyes and your body leans into Jason’s. He rests his head against the front of your shoulder. You place your hand at the nape of his neck, gently running your fingers through his hair. He turns his head and takes a peek at you. You smile at him and stick your tongue out at him.
He lets out a light chuckle, lifting his head, you place a hand on his cheek and he leans into it, while you lean to the opposite side. Slowly your bodies lean into each other, giving in to your bodies’ the magnetism. Sharing your first kiss. Light and sweet, the first of many, forever.
Meanwhile, in Wayne Manor:
“GRAYSON!” Damian knocks open Dick’s door.
Dick turns around form his computer, “Damian?”
“Explain the meaning of this!” he holds out his phone on Jason’s post. “Are Y/n and Jason in a relationship?”
“I don’t think so. This seems like a pretty average post for them.”
Damian takes his phone and stares at it intently.
“Why?”
“Y/n can do so much better than Todd! I’m her voice of reason so she remembers.”
Dick laugh and ruffled Damian’s hair.
“I’m sure we’d know if they were dating or not, it can’t be that hard to figure out.”
Meanwhile, Selina saw the post and liked it.
“Bruce.”
“Hm?”
“Looks like our Little Wing and KitKat got together.”
“I thought they were together.”
“They’re official, darling.”
“Weren’t they before?”
“Oh, Bruce.” She chuckled, “you’re so lucky you’re cute.”
He winks at her, “And that’s why you like me.”
In the Batcave:
“Look at this.” Duke brought his phone over to Babs.
“Good they finally got together. About time,” she chuckled, “I had an idea when we went to the drive-in the other day, but I’m glad my suspicions are confirmed.”
“I give it about a week before everyone else figures out.”
“A week? I give it two, they are pros at keeping secrets.”
Duke laughed, “It’s a bet.”
After your first kiss, every action you two shared had so much more purpose and meaning behind it. It turned into Jason putting his arm around your waist. Where people began to give you curious looks. Then you two would hold hands when you walked together or even in each other’s company. That’s when people began to question if you two were official or not. One day, after school, before you left for dance practice he kissed you on the cheek in front of Tim and immediately went to the family group chat.
On your train ride to the studio, your phone was blowing up.
-Text conversation below-
Timbo: EXCUSE ME! CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME IF JASON AND Y/N ARE DATING?! DickeryDock: I thought they were acting closer than usual. Baby: Todd with Y/n?! Timbo: Y/n just left for dance and Jason kissed her cheek! Jaybird: Did you guys just figure it out? CassAFass: WHY DIDN’T YOU TELL ME?! Baby: This isn’t a joke?! The Best Bro: I had suspicions. Babs and I had a bet going on. Baby: HOW LONG?! WE’RE A FAMILY OF DETECTIVES AND IT TOOK US HOW LONG? Stephie: Wait, they weren’t dating this entire time? You: I’m proud of all of you. JayBird: 2-3 weeks? You guys suck.
It was hard to stifle your laughter on the train from the exchange in the family chat. Then you got a tag on Instagram from Tim. It was a blurry picture of what you think is Jason getting tackled by Damian with the caption: “EXCUSE ME! @notjtodd and @yourusername HAVE BEEN DATING FOR WEEKS AND HAVEN’T TOLD ANYONE! Y/N ARE YOU OKAY?! ARE YOU BEING FORCED TO DATE HIM?”
You almost miss your stop from how entranced you are with your phone. You like Tim’s post when you are tagged in another post by Babs. Where you and Jason are asleep together in the backseat of the car. It was from when you, Jason, Babs, and Dick were coming back from the drive-in movie together. Your head was on Jason’s shoulder and you two were holding hands. With the caption: “Went on a double date and never even realized they had made their relationship official. We all knew it was going to happen. #BadassJasonPartyIsOver”
Bab’s hashtag sent the Batfam into a flurry of posts.
Roy was first where it was just multiple pictures of you and Jason snuggling in different areas, the couch in the theatre in Wayne Manor, the back of the jeep when up at lookout point, the floor at a dance competition, and another in the hotel they just went on. Not only did all of the pictures feature you two snuggling but Roy was at the forefront of the picture holding up a peace sign with an exasperated look, your third wheel forever. His caption: “Hello, my name is Jason ‘I don’t cuddle’ and ‘We’re just friends’ Todd, I’d like to call bullshit. #BadassJasonPartyIsOver”
Dick’s picture was of you and Jason hugging at your first dance competition in Gotham. “Let’s never forget the time Jason made me turn the car around in the middle of a busy intersection, made me speed across town, and drive to a flower shop so he could buy @yourusername a bouquet of her favorite flowers so he can give them to her after her dance competition. #BadassJasonPartyIsOver”
Damian’s picture was of you “lecturing” Jason in the Wayne dance studio while practicing your dance routine together. “We all knew they were going to get together when Jason learned that dance routine just to impress @yourusername #BadassJasonPartyIsOver (I still think Y/n can do better. You better not fuck this up, Todd.)”
Cass had a slide show for her post. The pictures were of the family’s most recent winter vacation to Bora Bora. The first picture was of Jason sitting across the table from you assume Cass (who took the picture) with his face turned away. The second picture was you walking away with Babs and you were flipping off the camera with a smile. While the last picture was the chicken SpongeBob meme: “Jason: I just like her so much you know. Me – politely listening because I have heard this 100+ times-: I know just tell her that! @yourusername walks up, “Hey, guys.” Jason: “What the hell are you doing here, leave us alone!” Me: *smacks palm against forehead and immediately whips out my phone to take these pictures* Y/n: flips Jason off and with a smirk and walks off. Jason smirks back and waves her off. Me: “What the fuck was that?” Jason: “What? That’s how we show affection.” I had a red mark on my forehead for hours! #BadassJasonPartyIsOver”
The last post you saw was Jason’s. It was just a picture of you smiling at the camera with a hand outstretched towards Jason behind the camera. The caption was: “Shut up and let me be cute with my girlfriend.”
The post was small but it was enough. Now your family and everyone in Gotham knew, you and Jason are together.

rules: post the names of all the files in your WIP folder, regardless of how non-descriptive or ridiculous. send me an ask with the title that most intrigues you and interests you and i’ll post a little snippet of it or tell you something about it!
Only going with Batfam fics since that’s the fandom I share with Ro, and like, I’m ridiculous and work on literally dozens of WIPs for years at a time in fits and starts, in the idea of occasionally finishing one and posting it in completion which works great in theory but never seems to work out that way in practice OH UNKNOWABLE UNIVERSE, INEXPLICABLE ME.
Which means my Batfam WIP folder, as in fics that are actually in existence in bits and pieces because non-linear writing FTW (dubious), is already ridiculous enough as is. Keep in mind this is the accumulation of like....literally five or six years of adding content and writing stuff here and there. But yeah, also keep in mind like, I’m just ridick. Thing you gotta remember is I write primarily for me, to just get things out of my head. Like, I do really like external validation too, but I’m very very weird in that like, I have tons of stuff people have never read, original and fic-wise, and its not like...because I don’t want people to read them, its just......Things Happen and then they don’t and....yeah. This has been a presentation of Deep Thoughts, By Me. Let’s just say management is aware of the issue and its being worked on.
SERIES
KINGS OF THE SKY (aka that one where Jason doesn’t die, one-shot installments)
Weapons of Choice - Dick POV during his Robin days
Teachable Moments - Jason POV when he calls Dick after the Felipe Garzonas case and everything jumps ship from canon
Blood of the Covenant - Jason POV while Dick’s recovering from the Church of Blood storyline, plus enter The Adoption Issue
There are other later installments that make sense to me but wouldn’t make sense to anyone else without the in-between pieces, so just leaving them out even though whole ones are entirely written ahfishflahfal
BURY YOUR DEAD, LAY THEM DOWN, LET THEM REST (aka Ric fix-it series, plus addressing Lots More, one-shot installments)
Tell Me Your Secrets, I’ll Make You A Ghost - Duke POV with Dick pre-shooting, plus with Cass in near aftermath
You Can’t Take It With You, But Don’t Leave It Behind - Cass POV immediately following previous one, Interlude-ish
The Dead Don’t Live Here Anymore - Ric POV, bonding (slowly and awkwardly and very very dysfunctionally) with Jason and Cass at the same time, hello powderkeg, meet match
The Good Die Young and the Bad Aren’t Dead - Jason POV investigating things hinted at in the previous
Welcome To Purgatory, We Hope You Like Your Stay - Tim POV confronting then awkwardly teaming up with Damian who has Plans re: these Nightwing impostors
Life After the End of The World or What the Hell Are We Even Supposed To Be Doing Now - Jason POV confronting Cass about the secret she’s been keeping re: Dick but its not what he thought it was
A Ghost, A Zombie and a Dead Guy Walk Into A Bar - Ric POV, with Cass and Jason again
The Long Dark Night of Richard John Grayson - Ric vs the door keeping his memories locked up tight
Two Houses, Built In Shadow (aka that one where I build a rival family of villains/antiheroes to act as the Batfam’s foils)
Smoking Guns and Smoking Mirrors - Dick POV and Babs POV, introducing Dick and Babs’ counterparts - 3 chapters plus epilogue
Werewolves of Gotham - Jason POV, introducing his counterpart, 5 chapters
Ghosting the Machine - Tim POV, introducing his counterpart, 3 chapters plus Interlude-y epilogue
See No Evil, Hear No Evil, Speak No Evil - Duke then Steph then Cass POV, three long-as-fuck-dear-god-what-was-I-thinking chapters
Providence - Bruce POV, introducing his counterpart, seven thankfully much shorter chapters (its all relative, shut up)
Queen’s Gambit - Dick POV then Cass, pinning down the identities of the rival fam before they can figure out theirs first, format to be determined as everything written for this part is an incomprehensible mishmash of paragraphs out of context hahaha I do things smart
Way Down Deep Where The Sun Don’t Shine - Jason POV, the climax and denoument, five chapters plus epilogue
MULTI-CHAPTER STANDALONE FICS
They Never Said Saving the World Would Go Like This - that epic saga of Dick and Kyle
The Spy Who Forgot To Come In From The Cold - the Spyral + amnesia fusion fic
Ghosts of Graysons Past - John Grayson makes a deal with his old buddy Boston Brand to save his son from his fate at the hands of the Court of Owls, and Jason gets roped into riding shotgun via ‘so apparently I can see dead people now, but not all dead people, just SOME dead people, the really really loud ones’
99 Views To A Kill - that Dick and Boone Vengeance Academy AU
Been There, Done That - Dick fosters then adopts a kid being fucked over by the system in ways eerily similar to his own past, aka does the Bruce Boogie and projects like whoa
The Vienna Game - the Batfam versus a global criminal gang with secrets upon secrets and unveiling some of theirs in the process
The Brothers (Most) Grim - that one where Jason is thrown by Dick being a mob enforcer then supervillain as he prepares to make his return to Gotham, Things Then Do Not Go According to Plan, Dammit Dick
The Patron Saint of Robins - the one where Dick doesn’t forget but everyone else still does
Shadows Cast - that one where Jason becomes Flamebird and he and Dick focus on abused kids in specific
Hunt the Dark - that one where Dick learns some magic in the in-between Robin and Nightwing time, which comes in handy when Jason’s return from the dead is accompanied by some unseen supernatural predator stalking the ghost that got away
SHORT(ish) MULTI-CHAPTER STANDALONE FICS
First, Do No Harm - aka the one where Dick saves a fairy and the fairy’s a little shit about it
We’ve Only Got Nine Lives, Let’s Waste Not A One - aka the one where Dick and Selina bond over something and Bruce has no idea what it is and its driving him nuts - not cute, very angsty, I am sorry
The Grass Is Always Greener On The Other Side of the Tracks - aka five times Dick taught a sibling how to trainsurf plus one time they reminded him he gave them good stuff to go with the bad
The Boy in the Red Hoodie - years later, Dick realizes the kid he taught a few self-defense moves during that brief time he ran away in Robin: Year One wasn’t really named Peter anymore than he was really named Freddy
Once Upon A Time In Gotham - that de-aged to a teenager fic
Forget Us Not - Jason and Dick are revisited by reminders of a case they worked on together when Bruce was ‘out of town’ years ago while Jason was still Robin
ONE-SHOTS THAT HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR NOT BEING DONE, WHAT AM I EVEN DOING (oh right, I guess technically I have SOME excuse for fanfic not having been the biggest priority in my life for a few years but look I am Drama, hear me wax rhapsodic whilst emoting most verily)
Point of Origin - Jason POV, fall-out from the Bruce mindwipe reveal in Identity Crisis and how it might have made his relationships and way of interacting with Dick and Jason in particular like...swerve
Tell Me No Lies - Jason POV, despite the years and the death between them, post-UTRH, Jason still knows his brother’s tells, and his brother knows his....its why they’re avoiding each other
Witness to a Crime - Cass POV, that thing where you notice things no one else does, but not always knowing what they mean
We’re Just Not Gonna Talk About These And The Passage of Time, That Asshole
Born Under a Bad Sign - and its sequel. They still exist! In theory!
By Lost Ways - oh yeah, I was supposed to get back to posting that huh, I should do that, okay, righteo, that’s a mea culpa my dudes
Tagging anyone who wants to be tagged lol, cuz I suck at this but if you see this and are inspired to do this as well, you can totes blame me for the tagging!

If you floow me on twitter or are part of our discord server, you probably know that I have announced that for the time being I’m giving up on Marvel and DC, at least when it comes to new releases and announcments. I will make an exception for Runaways (unless that turns into a glorified X-Book as I fear) and catch up to some older books.
As I have said before, for quite some time I am feeling less and less joy and excitement about new Marvel and DC announcments. Especially as DC keeps shrinking and becoming increasingly “Batman Comics Comics”, where even fuckign Scooby-Doo must now be only about Batman, a character I do not like. All while the only thing keeping me in Bat-sphere, the batfamily, gets increasingly more undermined. there are maybe 5-6 Batfam members who consistently get spotlight. 4 if you don’t count Catwoman and Harley Quinn as Batfam members, then it is only Dick, Jason, Babs and Damian. Yes, Damian getting the very arc Cass Cain fans were BEGGING for DC to give her for the last 15 years is what prompted my decision. But really, it is a straw that broke the cammel’s back. Or, as we say in my country, a drop that filled the goblet of bitterness.
For over a decade I have now watched various character in the Batfam that I like - Cass but also Steph, Duke, Harper, We Are Robin and Gotham Academy kids, etc. - get passed on and ignored or relegated to jobbers and pointless, useless cameoes in crowd scenes, in favor of the same four. And their fans would always say this isn’t the right time and ask me to be a good consumer and buy these books because if they succeed then for sure others will get their moment to shine too. But that moment never came. I’ve been told that during One Year Later, after Battle of the Cowl, during New 52, during DC You, during DC Rebirth, during New Justice and now. If I lach onto a new character they quickly become a victim of the same treatment, as was with Duke, with Harper or with Maya. And if my faves get something it is either immediatelly undermined by other books (See how all work Bryan Hill put into showing Cass as skilled fighter been undermined by King, Thomasi and Williamson who saw her only as a worthless jobber to prop their lame villains) or ignored (see Duke who vanished after that book ended) or isn’t about them at all (see League of Shadows, billed as Cass story but was really about Ras Al’Ghul).
Currently Batbooks grow even larger but nothing changes, the promised spotlight for anyone else didn’t come. tom Taylor made a huge deal of being a Cass fan and instead he is writing Nightwing and another Batman book. Joshua Williamsone is now handing on a silver platter everything Cass fans asked for to Damian and Future State Batgirls series in anthology got replaced by a Grifter story - because DC thinks a guy so removed from Batfam he is literally from another universe is bigger part of the Batfamily than Cass and Steph. Fucking Joker got a book instead, we need that edgelord incel money I guess. And with rest of DCU shrinking to the point even Aquaman and Green Arrow (two titles I liked for various supporting cast members like Emiko Queen or Jackson Hyde, btw) got axed to make more room for Batman, there is just less things to be excited about outside a line that made it clear fans, who don’t like marketing department-approved characters and only them, are not welcome.
And at Marvel I could repeat above paragraphs with X-Men. More and more X-books that tie-in to an arc I tremendously dislike and been vocal critic of, less and less anything else. Even writers I like and had high hopes of end up doing same X-book as everyone else and it is an X-book in which characters I like are at best given pointless cameo and at worst killed and replaced by someone else in their body to show how dangerous the villain is. Or banished to another dimension. Or shown to be stupid and “manipulated by evil” for pointing problematic things about current books. And that on top of the same spiell of being told to shup up and let X-fandom enjoy their books about same five people and that sure everyone I like, like NXM kids, will get their moment to shine soon....and said moment never comes. Been told that during Manifest Destiny, during Nation X, during Curse of Mutants, during Schism, after AvX, after Secret Wars, after Inhumans vs X-Men, I’m being told that now. Instead X-books scrap bottom of the barrel to only give titles to characters from 80′s and 90′s to the point we have fucking Scalphunter book now.
All the while X-Fandom has shown itself to be extremly toxic and entitled, something I have seen when they wished for Nico and Chase to die in Avengers Arena because they felt X-men deserve to take Molly away from Runaways. And when they cheered the death of Juston for having a good Sentinel. Or when they acted toxic to Inhumans fandom while claiming oppression because they had “only” four books a month. Once again I feel like everything I like about Marvel gets pushed out in favor of its most toxic part, a part that made it very clear I and people who like same characters like me, are not welcome in it. Out of few books who stand out Ms. Marvel and immortal Hulk are ending. Champions, while good, is not the type of story I can stomach in current political climate. Runaways I fear they’ll be swallowed or at least undermined by X-Men too. Similiarly I am anxious about Miles, with Donny Cates lurking around looking like he wants to undermine everything Saladin Ahmed built for the sake of 00′s nostalgia.
Reading news and seeing new books doesn’t give me happiness anymore, just more frustration and sadness. I came to beleive it is not good for my mental health. So for time being I’m going to retreat to regain my strength. If other people running this blog, like @keeper-of-the-lore or @ubernegro or @majingojira want to talk about current books or news here, go ahead, I will just stay away for the time being from these conversations and stick to reading and talking about older stuff I wanted to check out but never had a time to do it properly. And if a book I wanted does appear while I’m taking this time off, well, I’d rather be late to the party that constantly passed on the invtations and waiting like a moron to get one.

For Wandering Dreamers (Pt. 2)
Synopsis: After hearing your parents argue about something for what feels like the zillionth time that night, you escape to your books and comics for some escaping of reality. Just as the argument ends with slamming doors, a note and locket landed on your bed. Inscribed on the note was a promise of new adventures and a better life awaiting you.
Notes: Y/F/D= Your Favorite Drink Y/N= Your Name Y/N/N= Your Nickname Y/F/P= Your Favorite Playlist
Warnings: None
Word Count: 1979
You woke up to the sound of someone trying to wake you up and small beams of golden sunlight peaking in through the curtains of your bedroom.
“Y/N, it’s time to get up.” You rolled over and rubbed your eyes to see Damian stepping back. His emerald green eyes sparkled in the light and you smirked some siting up and taking your hair out of the two braids that it was in, revealing wavy hair
“What time is it?” You mumbled yawning.
“it’s 9:15 in the morning. Alfred has breakfast prepared downstairs.” He informed you as you rolled out of bed fixing your shirt.
“Thank you. I’ll be downstairs shortly.” You said, “Wait, where is the kitchen?”
“So, you can make your way to the Batcave and the Fortress of Solitude but not the kitchen?” He chuckled, “You surprise me more and more every minute.”
“Well, I have seen blue prints on Google of the house but it was how someone imagined it so I cannot guarantee that that is actually how to get downstairs.” “And also, you will find that I am in fact very impressive in multiple ways.” You smiled getting out one of the outfits that you packed.
Running into the bathroom as Damian waited outside on the bed for you, you changed into your favorite colored thinner hoodie, denim jacket, dark grey ripped jeans, black and white Adidas, and you put your hair up. After that you brushed your teeth and then headed out to go downstairs with Damian.
“Try and take the lead.” He challenged, “Just see if you can make it to the kitchen.”
“Fine.” You replied walking down the hallway, eventually to a set of stairs.
“Oh, what floor are we on Damian?” You asked.
“Just the second.” He answered.
“Cool.” You walked down the flight of stairs which seemed never ending and then to a double staircase that led to the massive living room and to the side, the kitchen.
“It wasn’t that hard.” Damian remarked behind you.
“Mhmm.” You rolled your eyes getting a small laugh from Jason who was leaning on the counter.
“So, you must be Y/N?” Jay asked.
“Yep.” You answered, “Oh Jason, just for your information, all of Tumblr wants you to know that you’re awesome.” “It’s a social media platform where I’m from.” You explained, “I don’t know if you guys have it.”
“Finally, some recognition around here.” He threw his hands up in exasperation, “And what does Tumblr say about the rest of the crew?”
“It’s pretty unsurprising really.” You answered, “Dick is the mother hen, you’re the awesome one that everyone loves, Tim is the sleep deprived little bean,” you laughed some and continued pulling up a link on your phone, “According to this, Damian is a small deadly cupcake, Cass is an amazing and beautiful person who everyone would seriously die for, Steph is a waffle queen, Babs is just a queen... no a goddess, Bruce is the mom jeans dad, and Alfred is superior to all. Oh, and Kate is a badass, Duke is the sane one, and seriously at the end of this it says that the writer would die for every one of you guys.” “So yeah, you guys are pretty popular.”
Jason was wheezing laughing at Tim and Damian’s description and Dick was slightly offended before be introduced himself. You guys talked a lot much to what seemed to be the to the jealously of Damian for some reason. You wouldn’t admit it but Damian was your favorite Robin. You had had a crush on him but you know, that didn’t need to come to light.
You sat down at the table and was talking to Damian again who was seated next to you as everyone sat down. They were asking questions and introducing themselves little by little. It was just as you had imagined it on the nights that you dreamed of leaving home or scrolling through some sort of fan fic. The breakfast was amazing and was enough to make you remember that you actually had a life outside of this. Plus, would Bruce pay for education? You weren’t really expecting that but it was the summer time so you assumed that there was no need to worry about that yet.
A few weeks later...
You were walking around Gotham with Damian the day after the third gala that you had attended. It wasn’t hard to become fast friends with Cass, Babs, and Steph seeing as how they were literal queens of the entire Batfam and the rest of the family welcomed you with open arms, but recently you and Damian haven’t been spending as much time as the two of you would like to. It was something that he had “voiced” after kind of ignoring you for a few days which led to some interrogation on your end, plus some slight teasing.
Finally, you guys were doing something that didn’t involve six other people, even if those *other people* were very much welcomed. The two of you walked down a sidewalk into a coffee shop where you proceeded to grab a table for the two of you and Damian got the drinks. He came back and smiled some, sitting down and passing you Y/F/D.
“Thank you.” You said taking a sip from the drink.
“Anytime.” He answered before the look of an idea graced his face, “There’s a book store not too far from here that you’d probably like.”
“Is it a Barnes and Noble or just corner/ local shop?” You inquired.
“It’s a corner shop just down the street. Trust me, it’s better than any Barnes and Noble you’ve ever seen.” He answered.
“Wanna bet on it Dames?” You chuckled some.
“Only if you’re prepared to lose Y/N/N.” Damian challenged, “If this is the most impressive book store you’ve ever walked into, I get to take you out on a date Friday night.”
“Well, then, I might purposely lose, Wayne.” You smiled at him some, the look of brilliant trouble glazing over your eyes, “And if I win, you can take me out and kiss me after the store.”
“I might do both regardless.”
You raised a brow, “Well then, what are we waiting for? Let’s go see this awe -inspiring book store.”
You guys walked down the street, swarmed by the media and paparazzi as they were getting pictures of Gotham’s newest unconfirmed couple. The two of you stopped in front of a store that read, “Corner- Shop Books.”
“Straight to the point I see.” You said sarcastically as you guys walked inside.
“Mhmm.” Damian looked to see your reaction which was almost immediate.
The shop was bigger than you expected. There were shelves everywhere and a small sitting area near the middle of the store. In the back, there were stairs that lead to another floor of books and the seemingly infinite sea of literature drew in anyone that gazed into its glass doors. You were still for a second, admiring the large room and then walking around some, leaving Damian behind for a few seconds.
To Damian, watching you was like watching a kid in a candy shop. You gently ran your fingers over some of the intricate spines of the books, making your way to the classical literature, and then myths, history, and up the staircase to where the fiction and fantasy was.
He smiled as you looked so at peace in the world. It was the first time that he had really seen you this comfortable aside from some of the moments where you two were alone in the library reading or out in the gardens having conversations on whatever subject or topic you were interested in discussing. The thought that you guys might be here for hours crossed his mind, but was quickly brushed away once he saw the excited look on your face as you found something that was interesting enough to grab hold of your ever -wandering attention.
“What is this one about?” He asked referring to the hard -back book with a beautiful pale pink and gold cover, and what looked to be part of a castle on the spine.
You were reading the synopsis of the book before answering him, “It’s a book about a princess that comes from a lineage where the first of the family was a “god killer” of sorts. He defeated the goddess of death when she decided to take over the land and now the goddess, 300 years later, is back to reclaim her throne.” You stopped for a second, “It’s also got a male character who acts as an assassin for the king and may or may not be the romantic interest of the trilogy.”
“The boxed set is right there if you’d like it.” He picked it up and handed it to you.
“I’d like to not spend a ton of money on books until I find a job or something.” You said putting the book down.
“I’ll get it for you. Just get what you’d like, the bookshelves in your bedroom are looking empty as of late except for the few you managed to bring. I can see how you stare at it sometimes with the look of dissatisfaction during some of our conversations.” Damian offered, joking some at the last part.
“Dames, it’s okay I-“ He cut you off.
“I insist Y/N.” He said handing you the box of books.
You gratefully smiled at him and offered a thank you before continuing along in the store to hunt for more books. It was maybe three hours before you guys left. You had a few bags of books and thanked Damian profusely. He insisted that it was totally fine and you kind of stopped once you reminded yourself that he was, in fact, the son of a billionaire.
Once back in the manor, you had run upstairs to start organizing your shelf, you know, as any book worm might. It wasn’t long before you got a knock at the door and you were pretty sure you knew exactly who it was.
“Come in.” You turned off Y/F/P and waited for the person to come in.
Damian walked into your room and shut the door, “So, about the bet.” He asked, “Was it the most impressive book store you’ve ever seen?”
You thought for a moment, “Well I mean, the one in New York was really cool that one time, oh there was that one from Jersey...” You looked up and smiled, “Just kidding. And yes, it was by far, the best bookstore I’ve ever seen.”
He smiled and walked to you, putting his hands on your waist, “Then I hope that you will keep your end of the bargain and accompany me to dinner Friday night?”
“I will.” You replied, your breath hitching some at how close you two were, “I am slightly disappointed that you didn’t lose though.”
“And why is that Y/N?” He asked.
“Because now, you don’t have to kiss me.” You smirked some as he stared you intensely.
“But that doesn’t mean I don’t want to.” With that, he pulled you into a long kiss, you ran your fingers through his hair at one point, and he pulled you dangerously close to his chest.
Once you broke apart he spoke up, “Y/N, would you be my girlfriend?”
“That’s an offer I cannot pass up.” You answered, “100%.”
“Well then beloved...” You smiled at the name remembering it from the fan fics, “I hope you have something to wear for our date.”
“I’ll find something.” You looked at your stack of books debating whether or not to start shelving them.
Your thoughts came to a stop when you heard that dinner was ready, you would just do it while Damian was on patrol. You were a night owl anyways, so it wouldn’t matter.
Ya’ll I’m dying I haven’t had literally any sleep but here we are lol. I hope that you guys had a great Easter and are doing well. If you have any requests, please send them in. I hope that you guys are staying safe and are well have a good day and keep sane! 😊

Tabula Rasa [1/?]
AO3 Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/20183281/chapters/47822500
Blanket Disclaimer
Summary: Tim and Jason have known they are soulmates for years, though neither has said anything about it. Tim thinks Jason doesn't know, and is just trying to live with it. Jason thinks Tim knows but doesn't care, which is fine with him, he thinks the soulmate thing is a crock anyway. But one night, a minor mishap forces them to confront the issue head-on, leading to a series of events no one could have predicted.
Rating: PG-13 (rating may change later)
JayTimBingo Prompts This Chapter: #a lie #bright vivid colours #danger #enemies to lovers #soulmate aversion #soulmark tattoo
Canon-Compliance: Follows the New Earth continuity, with elements of New 52 (ie the ones that don’t completely contradict everything that happened pre-Flashpoint). Ignores Rebirth completely. So, up to about 2016 in terms of publication dates? Robins War happened, but Red Hood hasn’t met Artemis or Bizarro, and nothing bad has happened to Roy ffs!
Beta Reader: I'll get back to you on that.
________________________________________________________________
“Three cheers for the happy couple!”
The south wing ballroom of Wayne Manor erupts with the raucous shouts and applause of a hundred and twenty reception attendees. Tim’s congratulations get lost in the din, but he does catch Dick’s eye and flash him a thumbs up.
Seated at the high table, his older brother leans in and kisses his bride, which causes more cheering and catcalls from the guests, and makes the normally unflappable and newly named Barbara Gordon-Grayson blush.
Tim turns away and pastes a smile on his face as the Davenports, a senior couple and two of Wayne Enterprises' most influential shareholders, approach him.
Time to be ‘on’ again…
A generous mix of family friends (most of whom are vigilantes or heroes), and GCPD officers, fill the ballroom. These are interspersed with a few Haly’s Circus performers, and the requisite number of elite guests required by the Society pages of the Gotham Gazette.
Bride and bridegroom sit at the head table with their respective entourages, engaged in animated chatter. Babs and her maid of honor Alysia dissolve into laughter as Dick says something to Damian, who scowls and turns redder by the minute. The Gordon family is there, the Commissioner conversing in stiff politeness with his ex-wife Barbara, and Bruce is in full “Brucie” mode. In the background, Alfred directs the hired staff with his usual decorum and efficiency.
Across the room, Cassandra drags Stephanie over to the dance floor. At a smaller round table near the bride and groom, Duke just misses being speared with a fork by his girlfriend when he tries to sneak a piece of Izzy’s cake. Helena flirts with both Luke and Kate and Tim’s sure Selina is somewhere in the house stealing something to lure Bruce over to her place later.
It’s rare to have so many members of the family together in one room, and so Tim does his best to ignore the lingering dismay at the glaring absence in their numbers.
Dick and Babs look at each other now and again, like they’re the only ones in the world, and he makes an effort to find it adorable. He bolsters the jovial front he’s been wearing all night, reminding himself that his happiness for his brother and new sister-in-law isn’t something that needs faking. It took so long for them to sort everything out between them; it goes to show that being soulmates doesn’t equal an automatic perfect relationship.
I know that better than anyone.
It’s just getting more difficult with every passing hour to maintain the graceful Timothy Drake-Wayne façade.
“It will be your turn next,” Mrs. Davenport informs him, while her husband nods along. “Since Richard and dear Cassandra have found their matches, you’re the only one left.”
Tim’s smile becomes a little more forced. “Well, there is Damian.”
The demon brat looks as if he swallowed a mouthful of peppercorns as Brucie leans over and ruffles his hair, laughing his raucous fake laugh.
Now I’m glad Dick didn’t ask me to be his best man, or I’d be the chump stuck up there.
Not that he was that upset when he heard the news.
Tim’s distanced himself enough from the loss of Robin to accept Damian needs as much help as they can offer if he is ever to be a ‘real boy’. Little gestures like this from Dick are part of a larger plan. And it was endearing, in a way, to see the kid stomping around in the weeks leading up to the wedding, trying to check off a list of best man duties he’d printed off the internet.
And dissolving into teenaged fury when innocent things went wrong or when the groom teased him by flouting what Damian considered ‘according to convention’.
And then there was that bachelor party he organized…
It would seem extreme trampoline parks were a thing; also, getting banned from said parks within an hour for trampolining while drunk was a thing.
“Yes, but he’s still so…young,” Mrs. Davenport says, bringing him back to the present. Tim perceives how she hesitates on the best word to describe the youngest member of the Wayne family.
“It’s fine, you can call him a prepubescent terror. I always do.”
“Oh, Timothy!” Garish laughter as if he told the most hilarious joke of the season. “You are such a character. Why haven’t you found your someone yet?”
Tim catches sight of Steph once again, dancing with Cass and looking carefree and blissful and in love. And this time it’s a bit harder to experience only joy for his siblings, more of a struggle to fight the pang of hurt and jealousy that rears its head.
“You’re almost eighteen,” her husband remarks, interrupting his thoughts. “Most people find their matches much younger. Eleanor and I met when we were fourteen.”
“Oh, it was a beautiful summer in the Hamptons.”
“And it seems like youth today are finding each other earlier every year.”
“My sister and Stephanie didn’t,” Tim points out, only somewhat strained because that one still stings.
He and Steph had been together for most of their teenage years. She hadn’t possessed a soulmark, and Tim’s…would lead nowhere. He truly loved her, and if things were different, he knows they would have had a happy future. Lots of people whose marks don’t match are.
But then the day Spoiler and Black Bat met, they’d shaken hands, and everything fell into place. He’ll never forget either of their eyes—Steph bemused as her mark appeared for the first time and then exploded into color across her forearms; Cass puzzled until she realized what was happening. Then her face became an open book of joy rivaled only by how she looked when Bruce told her he intended to adopt her.
Faced with their happiness, it was only natural that Tim took a step back, much as it hurt to do.
“Perhaps your soulmate lives in another country,” Mr. Davenport suggests; it is clear he is not picking up on Tim’s reluctance.
“Oh!” his wife cries. “You should go on that television show they have now! You know, the one where they try to help you track down your match? I can’t remember the name, but it’s something like The Amazing Race or the Bachelorette.”
“Perhaps yours is younger than you. That happens sometimes.”
“Yes! May-December relationships aren’t that uncommon with your generation, I hear.”
“Or maybe they’re dead,” Tim suggests, and though his tone is light and friendly, his words shut them up in an instant.
Because if very well could be true.
Tim’s never shown off his mark in public, and he told Steph that exact story when she asked all those years ago. At the time, he wasn’t even lying.
Soulmarks develop around puberty and last the duration of the lifespan of the shorter-lived partner. Some people are born with several, the way Dick was, and some only share platonic or familial bonds, like Alfred and Bruce. Others have none at all. When a soulmate dies, the mark associated with them vanishes.
That’s because most don’t come back from the dead.
Still smiling at the now cringing couple, Tim takes his leave, letting them stew in their faux pas as he wanders toward the bride and groom’s table. He’s reached his limit.
Not wanting to crouch down in the middle of their group, he gestures until his brother sees him and makes an excuse to Babs. She’s following his gaze, offering Tim a worried look, but he smiles and shakes his head, trying to telegraph ‘It’s nothing. Go back to your celebration.’
Dick is red-faced and his eyes brighter than usual when he gets to Tim; people been plying him with generous amounts of alcohol all day. “Hey, Timmy, what’s up?”
“I think I‘ll make my way out,” he replies. “Do a bit of patrolling and then turn in.”
“Tim…”
Dick’s expression becomes concerned, and Tim shifts in discomfort.
“Someone has to be on the streets while you guys are slacking,” he jokes. “You know it took an Act of Alfred to get Bruce to take the night off, right?”
(It was also pointed out that if any of big players had planned anything tonight, probability and precedent suggested they would try it at the Gordon-Grayson reception.)
“You don’t have to do that! I’ve already got one brother missing.”
“Consider this my wedding present. You get to stay and enjoy your party with the rest of the family.”
“You’re just trying to worm your way of giving us a real gift,” Dick accuses, but the words lack malice. With a surreptitious glance around to ensure they aren’t being overheard, he lowers his voice and asks, “Are things getting bad again? Do you need to talk? Because Babs won’t mind if I duck out for a bit.”
And he’s always doing this, checking in with Tim, even years after it’s been an issue.
There’s a distinct possibility Dick has noticed how uncomfortable the atmosphere is making him, despite him doing his utmost to hide it, to keep from casting a dark cloud over the festivities.
And Tim should be okay.
Bruce is back from having lost his memories, Damian’s stopped his determined attempts to sabotage or kill him, his relationship with Dick is almost normal again, he has his team and place with the Titans, and there hasn’t been a major crisis in Gotham for about a month which is a record.
Yet he still feels raw and exposed, ill at ease in his skin.
Bruce has been questioning him a lot more, criticizing the way he handles not only cases but projects at WE. Tim worries there’s less time for him to recover between being Tim Wayne, CEO, and Red Robin. And the Titans are getting to the age where many of them want to strike out on their own or pursue more civilian interests—jobs and schools and a normal life. He respects that, even if he doesn’t understand it.
He has never had a normal life, and never will.
But he does have more and more days now where he looks at himself in the mirror and wonders how he’s supposed to keep doing this forever. Can’t figure out how Bruce has managed it for so long. Tim suspects he’s becoming little more than his daytime public persona and his nighttime alter ego.
Who exactly is Tim Drake?
Instead of voicing any of this, though, he musters up a comforting smile for his brother and assures him, “There’s nothing to talk about. It’s like every day. Just one step at a time, right?”
Dick’s expression clears then, and he nods, relieved. “Okay. If you’re sure.”
“And Dick?”
“Yeah?”
“Congrats.”
“Aw, thanks, Timmy.”
A bone-crushing hug later, and Tim’s car peels out of the estate parking garage, still ignoring the growing pit in his stomach.
He returns to his apartment in the Theater District, shedding his suit and tie in a pile that Alfred would have a coronary over if he were there to see it. Jumping in the shower, he scrubs himself of any traces of his cologne or other identifying scents he might have picked up at the reception and tries to get himself back into a clearer headspace.
He pauses for a moment at the sink, trying to shake off the lingering, bone-deep exhaustion. Several prescription bottles line the mirror—various sleeping aids, most of which don’t help anymore (but the rebound insomnia of stopping them isn’t worth the trouble). These days it’s only the heavy-duty sleep narcotics that work when he needs to turn his brain off for a few hours.
Among the personal pharmacy are several combinations of anti-depressants he tried in the past few months. Most of the time he powers through it, the way he’s done his whole life, but in recent weeks Tim’s noticed things getting hard again. The helpful alerts he sets on his phone don’t always convince him to leave his bed and even video games lack the usual draw. He sometimes gets lost in his head for hours; on bad nights, he hesitates a second longer before shooting a grapple line or dodging a knife. In rare moments, he considers his sleeping pills a little too much consideration, at which point he calls Dick or Connor. Talks to someone so he isn’t so alone.
As he dries off, Tim stares down at his right wrist, examining the complicated knotwork design emblazoned there. Swirls of crimson and gold loop in and out of each other, before cutting off along his forearm.
Everyone has a soulmark, an arrangement of swirling shapes across their skin; each is distinctive to the individuals bonded by them. They first appear when a person is in the general vicinity of their soulmate, manifesting as a colorless pattern of darker and lighter shades of melanin. Those patterns fill with bright, rich colors upon physical touching one’s mate. When pressed together, they interlock in only one way and retreat when contact stops.
Soulmates who have reciprocated bonds sport their marks in full and everlasting display. The sight is both beautiful and frustrating to see, even on his family, as he’ll never experience that himself.
His mark might be a stunning amalgamation of scarlet and gold, twisted into a mandala upon his wrist, but it will never be permanent. While it’s been a while since Jason’s made any energetic attempts to kill him, Tim’s resigned himself to living without a completed bond; tolerance is about the only thing he can hope for from his predecessor.
Finding Steph when they were younger had been a joy and a relief. Her not having a mark meant they both had a chance for a fulfilling connection. Until Cass.
Tim forces himself to stop dwelling on it and shoves the bleak thoughts down behind the wall he puts everything uncomfortable and not cohesive to whatever task he’s given himself. Instead, he busies himself with covering up his mark using the spray-on cover that doesn’t fade with water or perspiration, only coming off when scrubbed with a special soap. One of Bruce’s earliest and more practical inventions, since Brucie Wayne and Batman couldn’t have a soulmark in common.
Bruce covers his pretty much all the time, but Tim’s only been covering his when he suits up. He lives his life in disguise, he doesn’t want to hide such an important part of himself when he’s off the clock.
He heads down to the lower levels of his Nest, gets dressed while having the computer scan for trouble. The program calculates probabilities for where violence will crop up, where he should begin his patrol. He hopes for a busy night, something to distract him from his convoluted thoughts.
As usual, he intends to start his rounds off in Tricorner, and then go through Chinatown—which is when he notices movement on a camera that concerns him.
A familiar gleaming scarlet helmet.
Red Hood.
He debates with himself for several minutes.
On the one hand, it’s his regular patrol territory; on the other, seeing the other vigilante tonight, while his mood is already so low, isn’t something he wishes to contend with.
He clenches his fist.
He knew of Jason Todd for a year before discovering the second Robin was his soulmate. By the time he wanted to do anything about it, the older boy was dead, and Tim consigned to grieving in secret.
Then Jason came back, but it was almost worse than him being gone because he hated him. Without having ever met him.
Even now that he’s mellowed out (sort of), Jason appears to reserve more dislike for his successor than anyone else in the family, not counting Bruce and Dick for obvious reasons. Red Hood and Red Robin have run into each other enough in and out of costume that there have been ample opportunities for Jason’s soulmark to make itself known. That Tim has seen nothing close to resembling it means one of two things: either the other man hasn’t developed his mark yet, which is possible albeit rare, or he has, and like Batman, always keeps it covered.
Which says more than enough about his sentiments on the matter.
Between Jason refusing to acknowledge their connection, or just not being aware of it, Tim prefers to believe the latter, if only to make himself feel better. There’s no point in bringing up the soulmate thing at this juncture. He decided years ago to respect the status quo, for the simple reason it’s less painful than the alternative.
All that being said, he doesn’t enjoy watching Jason get in trouble, even more so when the situation is avoidable and he’s near enough to help. At the moment the big idiot is courting a potential gang war.
Sometimes protecting someone means protecting them from themselves and their bad choices, I guess.
Static crackles through the comm in his ear, and then he hears Batman’s low growl. “What’s going on in Chinatown?”
“Why am I not surprised you’re still listening to the comms at your son’s wedding,” Tim sighs. “Nothing. I’m handling it.”
“Are you sure?”
“B, I’ll help A drug you every day for a week,” he threatens. “And you know we both can and will find new and interesting ways of doing it.”
There’s a huff on the other side of the line. “…Noted. Reach out if you need backup.”
“You’ll be the first.”
“You’re lying.”
“Wow, you must be a detective or something,” he deadpans. “Red Robin out.”
Jason is the last person he wants to run into right now, but Tim’s also been cultivating a few informants there and he can’t have that jeopardized.
Looks like I’m going to Chinatown. Hope Lynx is in a good mood…
He wonders if tonight he’ll end up getting beaten up, or just insulted. He’s not even sure which would hurt more.
⁂
Jason goes flying out of the upper story of the restaurant, followed closely by a very tiny woman wielding a very big sword. She reminds him of Cheshire, with a shade less lethality.
Actually, if it were Jade, he would end up critically injured when she lands on him, using him as a cushion against the pavement. He manages to turn his body to land in a way that won’t break his back—though his right side will be a giant bruise tomorrow—and scrambles to his feet.
This is one of the reasons I avoid Chinatown.
Things never go well for him here, especially not since that thing with the Su family. It’s just better to avoid the place. But before that, he and the Ghost Dragons at least used to get along—professional courtesy and all that, along with an unspoken agreement not to step on each other’s toes.
That’s over, apparently.
All he’d wanted to do was ask some questions. One of his stool pigeons passed him some information on a human trafficking ring; according to him, it was based on Chinatown. It would seem sex slavers were luring young women over to the United States with the premise of work and accommodations. Then, upon arrival, the girls were hauled into a life of sexual servitude.
Jason didn’t even go in guns blazing this time or wearing the helmet. Just a domino and a hankering for some barbecue pork bun.
So, either someone tipped them off what I was coming around for, or this kid in the mask has something to prove.
There’s a slow curl of heat moving up the back of his left wrist and up his arm, and his first thought is he’s been cut. Except while the sensation is familiar, it isn’t the liquid warmth of blood.
The woman moves fast, and a beat later her sword is swinging downward. Jason’s hands fly to his holsters, thinking he’s going to have to break out the guns after all when there’s a clang.
Suddenly there’s a bō staff in front of his face, catching the sword inches before it slams into Jason’s nose.
Ah. And there’s the other reason I avoid Chinatown.
Because in the past year or so, it’s been part of the patrol route for a certain Timothy Drake.
A.k.a. his replacement.
A.k.a. Red Robin.
A.k.a. his soulmate.
No wonder that warmth in his hand was familiar; the soulmark must have reacted to the younger man’s approach.
After a brief tussle, there’s the sound of a grapple line firing, and then Tim flies upward, ridiculous cape fluttering, still holding the struggling woman.
Her sword stays on the ground.
“Oh, hell no,” Jason growls, because this is his business, damn it!
When he reaches the roof where Tim’s carried off Jason’s would-be-murderer, he notes they are standing close together, conversing in rapid Cantonese. Jason’s rustier at that than he’d like, but he gets the gist when the woman stalks right up to him and begins yelling and gesturing.
Then she shoves him and pushes away; a smoke bomb goes off, and then she’s gone.
Tim makes no move to go after her.
Which, seriously?
Jason stalks over, looming over the shorter man and touching his hand to the still holstered gun in his belt in an implicit (and mostly baseless) threat. He’s always amused at just how much of a height difference there is between him and his replacement, and tonight he makes a point of lording it over him.
“You guys looked awfully cozy there, Timbers.” Which shouldn’t bother him, but he can’t fight a twinge of irritation. “Care to share with the class what your little tête-à-tête was about?”
The cowl covers Tim’s face, but Jason can imagine the judgemental stare.
“She said your poking around her territory will jeopardize her investigation into the sex traffickers.”
“Her investigation? She’s the damn head of the Ghost Dragons!”
“Yeah, and she’s also an undercover operative sent by Hong Kong PD, which I’m only telling you, so you don’t decide to go and kill her for apparent crimes.”
And that was not what he was expecting.
“How do you know this?”
“She told me. She’s one of my CIs.”
“And you believed her?”
“Cass looked into her for me. She’s legit, even if she’s a little…unorthodox.” Tim’s head tilts to one side, considering; with the cowl it makes him look like his avian namesake. “You’d think you’d appreciate that.”
“On the list of things I don’t appreciate, you showin’ up while I’m chasin’ a lead is one of them,” Jason growls. “Don’t you have a party to be at?”
“I ducked out early.”
“Well, that’s lame.”
“Not as lame as someone who ignores the fifteen invitations he was sent.”
Ah, and now they’re back on familiar ground.
“Pfft, I’ve seen enough Brucie to last me several lifetimes.”
“Yeah, but it was for Dick. All you had to do was show up—” his mouth twitches here; Jason can’t tell if it’s amusement or irritation, “—in jeans, even.”
“I’ve been dead once; I don’t need Alfie murderin’ me for that big a faux pas. And somehow I doubt Barbie would appreciate if her wedding photos included Dickiebird sporting a swollen eye.”
Tim sighs. “What are you fighting about this time?”
“Other than the usual stuff? We’re not. But I’m sure he’d put his foot in it at some point and need a nice bit of cognitive recalibration.”
“And you, the perfectly innocent party in all this, would happily provide that?”
“Call it a civic duty.”
Tim shakes his head, but Jason thinks it’s done in amusement this time, instead of exasperation.
“I don’t know how she can settle for that birdbrain,” he continues. “How does she stand bein’ around him so often without wantin’ to punch him in the face every time he opens his mouth?”
“Maybe not every time.”
“Point still stands.”
“Well, they’re soulmates,” Tim says vaguely, distant like he’s not paying attention to what he’s saying. He fiddles with his wrist computer, giving no indication that he is aware of anything else.
Jason’s pretty sure that’s not the case.
After all, he’s practiced in the art of pretending not to feel how his soulmark warms the closer he stands to Tim. There’s no question Tim’s learned to do the same.
It might be hypocritical of him, but that makes him angry somehow.
“As if that explains it all,” Jason sneers. “Come on, Replacement, I thought out of all of them, your whole logical-scientific-question-everything-Klingon-mind wouldn’t go for that hokey soulmate crap.”
“Vulcan.”
That brings him up short. “What?”
“It’s Vulcan culture that’s more focussed on logicality and empirical data-gathering. Klingons are more combat-oriented and tend toward more aggressive means of…” He trails off when he realizes Jason staring at him. “What?”
“You complete nerd,” Jason tells him. “No wonder you left the wedding early. I bet socializin’ with normal people probably stressed you right the fuck out, didn’t it?”
Tim gives a noncommittal shrug.
“Havin’ a soulmate doesn’t mean people should be together,” Jason goes on, filled with the sudden need to hammer home this point. “Look at all the examples from history—Cleopatra and Antony, Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, Bonnie and Clyde—” He ticks the couples off his finger. “They were all soulmates and they all either made each other miserable or got each other killed.”
“You can’t apply a few historical anomalies to every soulmate pair,” Tim counters. “Life circumstances skew the data.”
“Doesn’t change the fact that fate shouldn’t decide if people will magically work out!”
“That’s not…” Tim appears frustrated, at last, putting down his wrist computer and clenching his jaw. “It’s not supposed to work out magically. It’s about finding the person who completes you. You still need to work at it. It’s not all magically going to fall in place, and you’ll be happy forever right away. Even soulmates don’t get to live perfect lives.”
Ain’t that the truth, Jason muses, considering Tim.
“Sounds like you want a soulmate,” he points out, a little stiffly, and what the hell possessed him to say that?
He wonders what the kid is going to say now, or if this is the day their careful pretense, the lie of not knowing gets shattered.
Luckily, though, Tim avoids opening that can of worms.
He takes a step back from Jason, looks away and mutters, “It’s not relevant to the Mission.” Which is a total cop-out, but Jason will take it. “Anyway, if you’re done causing trouble here and riling up the gangs, I’ll take my leave.”
“Wish you would.”
Tim shoots him an unimpressed glare—or at least, that’s what it seems like to Jason. “Don’t make me come back here. And for god’s sake, at least call and congratulate the happy couple.”
He grapples away rather than allow a witty retort; Jason watches him go with a scowl. Once he’s sure the other vigilante is gone, he tugs the glove off his left hand, frowning at the whorls of crimson and yellow retreating down his forearm and back to his wrist.
His soulmark appeared one night a few evenings before the Garzonas incident. Jason vaguely remembers swinging through an alley to escape yet another argument with Bruce and knocking out a bunch of thugs threatening a kid. He’d been so buzzed on adrenaline and fury he hadn’t noticed the warmth in his wrist. He only caught sight of the mark itself when he returned to the Cave.
And then he spent the night wondering if one of the assholes he knocked around was his soulmate. It wasn’t a comforting idea, and he’d decided then and there to cover up the mark and forget about it. The disappointment about his potential soulmate had been a contributing factor in a long line of shit the universe decided to dump on him that sent him to Ethiopia. If he was linked to scum like that, he wanted to be as far as possible from Gotham.
It never even occurred to him to imagine the kid in the alley was his match. Hell, it didn’t even register when he discovered that Tim Drake had been following Batman and Robin around for years.
Only that day at the Tower, when Jason made his first move against Batman and attacked his replacement, did he finally make the connection.
His mark reacted the minute they were in the same room, spreading across his skin and swirling about seeking its partner. Jason had been so far gone with rage that the sight of it had made him angrier, made him hit harder—because if he didn’t meet Tim before, it meant their bond hadn’t been strong enough to keep him from making the biggest mistake of his life.
It meant he was supposed to meet him after being ripped apart and rebuilt as a weapon.
Luckily, or not, Tim was unconscious before the manifested completed, sneaking out from beneath the long green gauntlets of Jason’s fake Robin suit.
And if he did happen to notice before passing out, the kid hasn’t said anything about it.
Probably hates me and doesn’t want to acknowledge the universe’s idea of a shit joke.
Jason doesn’t blame him. Soulmates are a crock of shit anyway, and Tim’s better off without being tethered to him, and vice versa. They should keep pretending.
Because Jason doesn’t get to be happy.
And Tim deserves better than him because Tim—as much as he’s a pain in the ass—is good.
“And on that note,” Jason murmurs to himself, putting his gauntlet back on, “time to play the villain.”
The tip he received put him in the Ghost Dragons’ crosshairs—which means someone on his payroll is making a move, either against him or against someone else.
Time to find out for sure.
And no more moping over this soulmate crap.
Johnny Lino is the head of an investment company that’s just a front for his money laundering. He’s been passing the Red Hood information about his clients for the better part of a year now, ever since Jason put the fear of Hood in him. Quite a feat, considering the man’s a few inches taller and broader.
Jason finds him in a condo off the Diamond District, watching the Knights game and stuffing his face with pretzels.
Ponzi schemes don’t buy manners, I guess.
“Johnny,” he greets in a clear, would-be friendly manner that has the older man choking up his most recent handful. “Long time no see. Got a bone to pick with you.”
He expects there to be some mumbling and groveling, a few bald-faced lies that require the generous application of foot to face and the reassurance that everything in Jason’s sandbox is back to the way it should be.
So, it surprises him when Johnny scrambles for something that Jason notes too late is a panic button. All of a sudden, half a dozen masked men in combat gear and carrying assault rifles are busting through the door.
“That’s a bit of an overreaction to some conversation, don’t ya think?” Jason asks, throwing himself into action to deal with the interlopers. Bullets fly and knives slice toward him, but in five minutes he’s standing in the ruins of the room with six unconscious men.
And one dead one.
Johnny’s got a neat hole in the side of his head, from one of his hired muscle’s guns, Jason presumes.
“And doesn’t that say a lot about the quality of hired muscle in Gotham these days?” he grumbles, kicking at the body. “Can’t even trust your own people not to shoot you by accident.”
He can hear sirens, knows a neighbor or someone has called in the noise and heads for the fire exit before anyone can link him to the scene. That’s all he needs is the big Bat thinking he pulled the trigger in there.
And damn it, the giant bastard was one of my best sources. Now I’ve got to find someone else.
The encounter bothers him.
He’s had people on his payroll get shifty before, but it’s been his experience that there’s more of a prelude before the attempt to stab him in the back. They try to run or talk their way out of it; it seems Johnny went all out, trying to take out the Red Hood, all because of a bit of questionable information.
If he was so desperate to hire a kill squad rather than answer some well-deserved questions…
Maybe it’s not me that spooked him.
He thinks back to the shot that killed Johnny, remembers the angle it hit the head, and where the exit wound was. The opposite direction from where the thugs entered—from the window.
“There was another shooter,” he realizes.
A quick visit to the building opposite confirms his suspicion: the scrape where someone set up a tripod, bullet casing rolled to one side.
It wasn’t Johnny afraid to talk to the Red Hood—someone else feared he would.
Question is, were they worried he’d talk or worried he’d talk to me?

New Year’s Eve with the Bat Kids... (Preferences)
Requested by @unidentified-anon-creature
Hello! This hc would be for a individual preference for Bat Boys and Bat Girls s/o, in better words, the Bat kids with their s/o. How would the Bat Kids celebrate the New Years holiday with their s/o?
I really hope it lives up to your expectations *finger guns*
Preference for Dick, Jason, Tim, Damian, Steph, Cass, Harper, Babs & Duke
Dick
Dick (being Dick) was super hyped about New Year. You originally planed to stay at your shared apartment in Blüdhaven and just watch some TV, since you never really celebrated things like that much, but Dick basically dragged you over to the manor, because he wanted to join the annual Firework that Bruce holds for Gotham in front of his property.
It was actually pretty amazing. There was a small party before the whole firework started and even though Dick was sticking to you most of the time, you managed to dance with Bruce, Damian and Alfred.
While everyone was counting down to 2019 Dick hugged you from behind and you leaned back into him, but a few seconds before the count reached zero Dick turned you around and perfectly at the first second of 2019 he kissed you and the firework behind you was forgotten.
Jason
Before New York‘s eve you weren‘t sure what Jason had planned for it, but you knew that you weren‘t a fan of Fireworks and all that stuff. Luckily for you Jason accepted that and was, quite honestly, happy about it (he didn‘t want to spend New Year at the manor, nor wanted to be alone at home).
So instead of celebrating the both of you just stayed at his place and cuddled on his sofa while some random movie played in the backround. Halfway through it you closed your eyes and Jason seemed to thing you were asleep, because he started to carress your hair and gave you a kiss on the back of your head.
You were too happy to open your eyes and blow your cover so you just stayed ‘asleep‘ while he turned the TV off. A second later he picked you up and carried you bridal-style to his bed where you fell asleep in his arms for real.
Tim
It was quite ironic. A story people (who don’t know Tim) wouldn‘t believe. You had planned to do something really romantic or some shit on New Years, because it was the one day no case, no criminal, was able to be a distraction for Tim.
It was all perfectly planned through, but there was one thing you hadn‘t considered. Human body functions. You‘d told Tim to wait for you in the living room while you got dressed, but when you came out of your bedroom all your plans were canceled.
Tim was on your couch silently snoring, looking perfect as ever. You just smiled and turned around, going right back into your bedroom, getting into your PJ.
At first you thought about carrying Tim into your bed, but after just a second you changed your mind and just cuddled yourself into his side. Maybe it wasn‘t what you had planned, but it was what you (and most likely Tim) needed.
(Tim apologized like fifty times after that, even though you told him it was perfect.)
Damian
Since Damian was pretty protective over you and, because Gotham is still Gotham on New Year, wanted you to stay near him. You were kinda happy about it and used it to your advantage, because if he wanted you to be near him, you can also turn it into a date.
Damian would lie if he said he was annoyed about it (he isn‘t really the super-romantic-date-type), because even he enjoyed some romantic(/cliche) time with you. So the both of you stayed at the manor, joining the party.
You had tons of fun, even though you weren‘t allowed to drink, talking with some people (Damian always by your side) and even convincing Damian to dance with you, but at 23:55 o‘clock he took your hand and pulled you after him through the manor. You were confused, but also curious about what he wanted to do.
Somewhere in the manor he shielded your eyes with his hands and cautiously continued his way. You felt cold air hitting your skin and guessed that you were on the balcony, you could hear the people below you chanting numbers and when they came down to zero, Damian took his hands down for you to see the amazing Firework that enlightened the sky.
Your jaw dropped in awe, when you felt Damian kiss your cheek and hug you from behind. “Happy New Year, beloved.“
Steph
Steph and you had so much fun on New Years. A week before you talked about what you wanted to do and you had so many different ideas that you just said f*ck it and turned it into a two person sleep-over-date-girls-night.
That included Steph doing your hair and makeup and choosing your outfit and visa versa, the both of you arguing ten minutes about which New Years party to attend to and in the end just heading over to the manor (like most other Gothamites).
In the end that was most likely the best decision you could‘ve made, because....well....Steph still had her own bedroom in the manor. You can imagine the rest ;)
Cass
Cass had picked the shortest straw when the fam was deciding who would have to go on patrol at New Years and you, being the good girlfriend that you were, volunteered to join her.
In fact that was probably one of the best New Years experiences that you‘d ever had. You did the thing you loved with the person you loved and, since Cass never really understood the joy of New Year in the first place, Cass was happy about it too.
The only moment where the both of you stopped being Y/S/N and Black Bat was when the first fire works exploded and you both admired it‘s beauty (well, Cass admired it and you admired Cass).
Harper
Harper wanted to make New Year special, because it was another year she was able to spend with you, so she was the one to plan everything. As much as you knew, New Year was a complete surprise.
You would lie If you‘d say that you weren‘t a little bit worried, but you later admitted that there was no reason for that. Everything was perfect.
With a little help of Alfred and (surprisingly) Jason, Harper organized the perfect date.
She brought you to a movie-like-hill (from where you could oversee most off Gotham) on which a small midnight picnic was laid out. To say you were surprised would be an understatement.
To get something so thoughtful and romantic from Harper was better than everything you could’ve ever though off.
Babs
Because she felt responsible to do so, Babs insisted on attanding the New Years party at the Gotham Police Departement and, even though you could think of better ways to spend New Years, you would throw everything else off board as long as you were with her. It was, as you could imagine, not as fun or exciting as most would expect a party and since most, if not all, people who were there worked at the GPD, you didn‘t really knew anyone except for Babs and her farther.
Normally you would have felt really uncomfortable in your skin, but having Barbara besides you and hearing her laugh, seeing her smile, made every doubt you had go away.
Maybe it wasn‘t the New Year‘s eve you expected, but it was the New Year‘s eve you needed.
Duke
Since Duke was pretty new to both, the hero buisness and the Bat-fam, he wanted to do something that wasn‘t related to either of them. But he still wanted to sped time with you, his anchor.
So you did something unconventional. At Day the both of you went through the city forgetting everything that worried you, eating Pommes, just chilling. It was magically and you never felt that happy before.
When the sun was setting you both knew that you had to decide what to do next and even though he origannaly said he didn‘t want to, somehow the both of ended up at the manor party too.
Other than he thought he actually enjoyed it becuase the day before showed him that no matter what he could always count on you and you would bring him back into reality.

Siblings: Chapter Four
AO3
Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3
Summary: The Bats reflect on how their thoughts about siblings have changed over the years. Some opinions stayed, others didn't.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Tim didn’t know how to feel about being an only child.
He didn’t think about it all that often, there weren’t many kids he talked to at school who mentioned their siblings all that frequently. And, in some parts, he didn’t mind it so much.
The kids who did talk about siblings complained, whether their siblings were older or younger. There were those who said their sibling took up more of their parents attention, which was something Tim was already lacking in. Some said that they never had any time to themselves, something that Tim had an overabundance in, but still cherished. Others said that the accomplishments, and failures, of their siblings reflected onto them, making their parents expect more or less of them. Tim couldn’t afford that either. His parents already didn’t think much of him, he didn’t need it to be any less. And if they wanted more, he worried he wouldn’t be able to meet their expectations.
And yet…
Sometimes he liked the idea of someone else in that empty mansion. Someone to talk to when the rooms felt too large, when the loneliness was suffocating him. He liked the thought of sharing his recent theories, photos, and the like with someone. Wondered if he could go on for as long as he wanted without being interrupted.
Maybe they’d be someone who didn’t call him by a name that wasn’t his, then feign forgetting. Who didn’t treat his binders like they were assaulting their eyes. Who didn’t scrutinize his every movement for faking.
That’d be nice, he thinks.
But there were pros and cons, he reasons. And for all he knows, if he had a sibling, they could’ve been just like his parents. Or they could’ve been kinder. Not like he’d ever know.
He had more important things to worry about than hypotheticals and wishes.
“Before you scold me, know that I took a five hour nap earlier today and I’m only getting a snack.”
Steph and Duke blinked at him from the doorway to the kitchen, their expressions a sharp contrast between exasperated and concerned, respectively.
“Wow, five hours?” Steph snarked. “That’s a new record. Are you dying?”
“Not yet,” Tim said, opening the fridge. “Give it a few weeks and I’m sure you’ll see rumors of my tragic defeat at the hands of, I dunno, Flamingo.”
“There’s a supervillain named Flamingo?” Duke exclaimed, staring at Steph incredulously.
“Oh, yeah, it’s a whole thing.” She nodded. “He had a scuffle with Jay and his kid a while back.”
“Jason has a kid?”
“Why are you up, anyway?” Tim talked right over him. “Duke I understand, he’s the disgraced child of the sun. But you patrol at the same time as every other nocturnal person in this house.”
“Hey-”
“I actually had to pretend to have a normal sleep schedule, my mom was getting worried and I didn’t want her finding me sneaking in with my full Spoiler getup on.” Steph explained tiredly. “I’m still trying to recover.”
“Tragic,” Tim hummed, pulling out a container holding a ham sandwich.
“The only thing that's tragic is your outfit.” Steph snorted, looking him up and down.
Tim blinked, looking down at himself. His outfit consisted of a pair of knockoff Batman shorts, knee-high pastel dinosaur socks, and a long red robe that absolutely did not belong to him hanging loosely off him, exposing countless scars littering his body.
“I look awesome,” Tim said, popping the lid off the container.
“Damian’s gonna start asking what battles you got your scars from again,” Steph tutted, striding further into the kitchen with a confused Duke following her. “Know that I will not be on your side when Dick notices and gets worried.”
“I’m more worried about Dami seeing this one,” He said, brushing the robe back slightly to reveal a poorly stitched surgical scar on his upper abdomen. “Because then he’s going to ask what happened, and then I’m gonna have to tell him that's where my spleen used to be, and then he's going to be reminded that oh, yeah, his brother has a missing spleen, and then he’s going to be treating everything like its diseased-”
“Does...he keep forgetting you lost your spleen?” Duke blinked, concerned. “I feel like that’d be something you were kinda always aware of…”
“Eh, everyone's worried about a different scar whenever they see ‘em.” He shrugged, glancing down as he traced over one of the surgery scars along his chest. “Which is frankly a little rude. I earned this right to be shirt free.”
“Hell yeah you did,” Steph grinned before her eyes dropped to the sandwich Tim was attempting to eat. “Isn’t that Cullen’s?”
“He didn’t label it, therefore it’s mine.” Tim said simply.
“Harper’s gonna kill you,” Duke warned warily.
“Only if she catches me,” He said, taking a bite of the sandwich. “Why’re you guys here, anyway? Grabbing a snack?”
“Lookin’ for Babs,” Steph said, hands in her pockets. “Someone on Twitter started a war about which Batgirl was better, and Babs will probably get a kick out of being remembered as the ‘missing Batgirl.’”
“Oh she’ll be pissed about being remembered that way.” Tim agreed, shoving the rest of the sandwich in his mouth. “Babs will see it in five minutes or less, though. Swear she has a sixth sense for whenever someone mildly associated with the Bats is mentioned.” He mumbled.
“You wanna hijack the thread before she finds it?” He suggested.
“Hijack it?” Duke echoed.
“We’re gonna yell about random stuff that doesn’t contribute to the conversation until all hell breaks loose.” Steph explained, already pulling out her phone. “Tim?”
“How do you feel about discussing why the sun lightens hair, but darkens skin?” Tim suggested, leaving the container on the counter as he brushed by Steph.
“You just want to piss off someone from Metropolis.”
“It’s law as a Bat that I have to torment Superman whenever I possibly can.” Tim shrugged.
“Does that include me?” Duke blinked. “Because I personally think tormenting Superman is a bad idea.”
“Clark wouldn’t hurt a fly,”
“Yeah, but he’ll give me the face of disappointment and I don’t think I can live with that.” Duke protested.
“He can barely even manage--where are you going?” Steph looked up, only now realizing Tim was leaving the kitchen.
“I’m starting the mayhem on the big screens.” Tim grinned, looking back over his shoulder.
“Please don’t tell me he’s going to use Twitter on the bat computer,” Duke sighed.
“He’s totally going to use the bat computer,” Steph smiled, following after him. “C’mon! It’s initiation time.”
“Do you guys just call every weird thing you do initiation?” Duke called, hurrying behind them. “Because I’ve been told I’m part of an initiation five times in the last week.”
“You’re stuck in initiation until this becomes the norm,” Steph said cheerfully.
“Of course,” Duke muttered.
Tim’s robe billowed behind him like an amateur cape as he wandered towards the door leading towards the steps into the Batcave. He threw open the door, the sound of it slamming echoing and startling the bats on the ceiling.
“Jesus!”
Harper jumped from the swivel chair in front of the computer, wide-eyed as she blinked up at the trio at the top of the stairs.
“Hey, Harps,” Steph greeted, hopping onto the stairs railing and sliding down. “We’re here to cause problems on Twitter.”
“Oh, well, in that case, by all means.” Harper snarked, getting up and grandly gesturing to the countless screens. “Not like I was using it for actual work.”
“Were you using it?” Tim asked, pointedly glaring at Steph to keep his recent adventure to the kitchen quiet.
“...looking for tasers to modify count as work, right?” She said after a moment.
“Technically,” Tim nodded, ignoring Steph’s smug look that absolutely signified she was going to blackmail him later. “But you can just use Dick’s old escrima sticks. He goes through a pair every two or three weeks, but most still work pretty well, he’s just too lazy to fix them.”
“Sweet,” Harper grinned. She then paused, taking in Tim’s appearance as he slid into the seat she was previously occupying.
“Why do you look like you’re auditioning to be the pretty girl who dies in a low-budget slasher?”
“First of all, how dare you assume I wouldn’t be the first one to die for representation points,” Tim said, pointing an accusatory finger at her. “Second of all, it’s called having fashion, and also being allowed to do whatever I want.”
“You have terrible fashion sense,” Harper snorted, crossing her arms as Steph and Duke came up beside her. “But fair, I can respect that.”
“See?” Tim said, looking at Steph. “Some people can afford to not be rude.”
“Keep talking and I’ll lose more blackmail material,” Steph calmly threatened.
Harper glanced between the two, to which Tim quietly, and quickly, turned back to the screen and ignored the both of them. Harper raised a brow but didn’t comment. Tim made a mental note to sneak into one of Jason’s unused safe houses after this was over. Steph couldn’t keep quiet for the life of her.
“What are you starting, anyway?” Harper asked, crossing her arms and leaning on the back of Tim’s chair. “A sob story about the Opportunity rover?”
“Another day,” Tim promised, opening up Twitter on the countless screens. He opened another one on the other half of the computer, which Steph quickly stood at and got her own Twitter set up. “Right now, we’re questioning how the sun makes hair lighter, but skin darker. And we’re dragging Clark into it.”
“If anyone asks, I had no part in this.” Duke said, watching the two typing with a frown. “Initiation doesn't include learning how to taunt Superman, right?”
“Eh, we can settle for you becoming close with a Kryptonian,” Steph shrugged. “Dick and Bruce share Clark, Jay’s got Bizarro, Cass and I got Kara, Babs I think counts with her, too, Damian’s got Jon, and Tim has Kon.” She listed off. “Harper and Cullen took the ‘bully Superman’ route without befriending any of his family, which is a coward's way out, so you can take, I dunno, does Chris still exist in this timeline?”
“I can call in a favor from Bart to reset the timeline again so he exists.” Tim said with a casual shrug, pulling up the thread arguing about the Batgirls.
“I’m sorry, what--”
“Finding Kryptonians who aren’t already taken is hard!” Harper protested, talking over Duke. “And Clark likes you guys being friends with his family. The only issue he has is Damian getting testy and Tim making heart eyes at Kon every five minutes.”
“I do not!” Tim squawked, whirling around in the chair to glare at the traitors he dared call family. In his head. Family in his head.
“You do,” Steph and Harper chorused.
“I’ve met Kon for less than twenty minutes and even I know.” Harper added. “I’m sure Duke knew.”
“I...yeah…” Duke coughed into his fist and turned away. “But in my defense, the gossip around here is practically shouted down the halls twice a week.”
“You were subjected to Dick having another crisis about Jay dating Kory for two months, weren’t you?” Steph said, trying to hide a snicker.
“There were so many things I didn’t want to know,” Duke whispered, face horror-stricken.
“Eh, at least Jay hasn’t brought up Talia around Dami yet.” Tim shrugged. “At that point, it’s better to just vacate the premises.”
“Wait--”
“Point is, you either befriend the Kryptonian or you torment them. That’s the rules.” Tim talked over him again, scrolling down the thread and boredly looking over the arguments. “You ready, Steph?”
“As I’ll ever be,” She grinned, giving a thumbs up. “How long till Babs notices and takes this whole thing down?”
“Few more minutes, tops.” Tim shrugged, already typing. “You two wanna give any input?” He asked, glancing behind him to Harper and Duke.
“Ask if Kryptonian skin can be used as extreme sunscreen,” Harper suggested. “That’ll rile him up.”
“Now I’m just curious if it can,” Tim said, but obediently began making his comment.
“You could just...ask?” Duke tried, clearly not taking in any of what was happening.
“Nah, Kon’s half human, I don’t think it works the exact same.” Tim shook his head, not looking back. “Kara would destroy me if I tried, Bizarro has the same problem, Jon wouldn’t know, and Clark would start telling Bruce he’s worried I’m deranged again.”
“Aren’t you?” Duke raised a brow.
“Only if I feel like it,”
“And when he forgets to sleep for ninety-eight hours.” Steph spoke up.
Tim rolled his eyes, tuning out his siblings as they continued to talk. He posted his comment before sparing a peek back at them, currently throwing off ideas to their hijacking plan like it was an everyday occurrence. Well, to Steph and Harper at least. But, to Duke’s credit, he appeared to be getting more used to it on prodding from his...sisters? Hard to tell, Steph was her own classification of family member. They were some weird choices for family, at least.
Tim watched them for a moment before turning back to making another comment on the logistics of sunscreen, a smile on his face.
He couldn’t find it in him to complain. Too much, at least.

Bats In The Belfry
TO: @bottomless-pit-dweller
FROM: Your Secret Santa
"Who are you?" A quiet voice asks hours later, Steph drenched in sweat and fists wrapped but still aching something awful. If she weren't a bat she wold have jumped; she was a bit caught up in her head, didn't even hear the girl come in. She couldn't be Batman.
"I'm the new Batman." She answers with a resigned sigh, turning to face the girl.
"Hey Steph, can you do me a Solid?" Tim's voice started when she picked up the phone, and she groaned in frustration because that voice was the 'I'm going to ask you do do something you don't want to do' voice, but it was Tim, so it was also the 'You'll do it anyway' voice, and she just wanted A Day Off.
"What's up, Tim?" She sighed, and got gratification from the 'ah' that always accompanied that uncomfortable-guilty cringe he did. Good. If she had to deal with his bullshit, then he probably deserves the discomfort.
"So. Don't hang up-" he says, and, if Steph was stupid enough to believe Tim hadn't done something to remotely disable the Hang Up button on her phone, she definitely would have. Heck, she kinda wanted to try anyway, and he hadn't even said anything yet. "But.Um. So."
"Get to the point, Tim." Steph gritted out, and Tim heaved a sigh of his own.
"So. Dick's off planet with Duke and Babs for some peace talk." He started and yes, she already knew this, and he was clearly and blatantly stalling for time, and she didn't want to deal with this bullshit.
"Yes, Tim. I was there when Ol' Batty went over the plan. You're Batman- sorry for your luck-, Damian's Robin and training that girl from his school- that's honestly kinda cute- and Cass is flying back in to fill in for Nightwing. Cullen gets to try his spot at Oracle. Harper stays Batgirl, I stay awesome, Jason stays Redhood, and Bruce stays in bed on Alfred's orders. Seriously, Get To The Point or I'll just drop the phone and leave." she threatens, and Tim is silent long enough that she almost starts celebrating a rare bullet dodged, because whatever he's trying to ask is not gonna be good. But, Alas-
"Damian snuck onto the ship with the others. And Zeta beams as well as Communications were quickly disabled." Tim doesn't know how to blink first. Figures. She mutters a curse as she figures something else out, fingers turning white in her grip of the phone, because-
"They left a week ago, Tim. Ever think that maybe this is information you're supposed to share with the class?" She nearly growled, because she loved Tim, but he's also the absolute worst sometimes.
"I didn't want to worry anyone! We can't really do anything about it besides hope everything's fine and try to fix it from our end, and The Leauge is already working on that. I've been training Olive, and it's been a quiet week. I didn't need a Robin." He defends himself, and there's a bit to unpack and talk about there, because he must be woried out of his mind and it's bullshit that he didn't tell any of them, but there are more pressing matters.
"I'm sensing a 'But' here." she says hesitantly, reminded of Pandora and her Box.
"But," he obliges, "I'm a little...Shot, right now. Ok. Maybe a lot shot. I'm on bed rest for the foreseeable future. Bart dragged me to Titans Tower because Alfred's so busy with Bruce. I had to blackmail them into letting me have this call instead of passing out." He admits reluctantly and yeah, now that she's listening for it instead of just being angry at him for talking, she can hear his breathing and he's talking a little slow, which is the Bat Equivalent of slurring your words.
"What the hell Tim." she groans, feeling a headache start to form. "Seriously, spit it out. What do you want? What is this about?" She asked, anger masking worry.
"You are my last hope." he starts, and that's not good. "I swear Steph, I wouldn't ask if you weren't. I need you to be Batman."
Steph is silent. She freezes. she's clenching one fist hard enough to draw blood with her nails, and the other hard enough to crack the phone in half if it wasn't a BatPhone designed to keep sturdier then a fucking Nokia. It makes sense, given ho angry people get when talking to Bruce. After the seventh that broke being thrown against a wall and the 12 that was snapped in half and the 3rd ground into bits under someone's heel, they went through some revisions.
"Please Steph. I'll delete that blackmail from Star City, you know the one. I'll give you eternal access to whatever you want. I'll dress in drag and do the Hula. I'm actually begging here. Harper can't be Batman. Jason *laughed* at me when I asked. Cass is dead set on Nightwing, something about a bet. Kate doesn't have time to be Batwoman right now, let alone Batman. No one can get a hold of Azreal. Jim's too old, even with the mech suit. You're the only option." He rants and wow, either pain or drugs is really getting to him because he sounds almost hysteric.
"Fuck you." she snarls. "Fuck you sideways. Fuck Everyone in this god forsaken family. Fuck Damian in particular, little brat. Fuck you." She spits, because she;s a fighter and this is the best she can do. "Seriously. Fuck You. My revenge will be slow and painful, and you owe me so many things, and I'm dying the BatSuit purple out of spite. All of them. Except Cass's, because I love her. Once you heal, I'm kicking your ass." She grumbles and promises and goes on, but it all boils down to her reluctant defeat.
"Thanks Steph, yes I know I suck, you're the best, Goddess amoung Mortals, yes I know you hate me, sorry steph-" Tim indulges her rant because he's a good friend and a smart guy like that, and she only stops when he actually starts slurring words.
"Go The Fuck To Sleep, Boy Wonder." She growls and he hums a good bye and hangs up. She almost buries her head in her knees and pities herself, but instead goes to the BatCave and works through her anger with a good old fashioned punching bag.
Fuck This.

Ok, I have read only two of the chapters of the fanfic, but this inspired me to make one of my own. Btw @prismacolor19 I LOVE the headcannon and can definitely see them doing it.
Dick was frustrated. Bruce had disappeared. Again! It was probably just a case, but some warning would've been great. Damian was panicking, which was pretty unusual because he's always the cool one when Bruce disappears. He brushed those thoughts away, he had to concentrate on finishing his patrol report about how he had been shot in the leg. Alfred had done a very good job of patching it up, but even his medical wonders couldn't flush away the pain. He had been shot before, many times, but that didn't make him immune to bullet wounds.
"Hey Dick." Someone sat beside him on the couch.
"Oh hey Babs." Dick greeted.
"Does Damian seem a little weird to you? He's sulking more than usual. What's more is that he's refusing to talk to anyone. Tim said that he was an idiot out loud, but Damian didn't even notice!" Barbara complained.
Dick sighed and said "Well, we all need a distraction. Bruce has been doing this for way too long and we can't just wait for him to come back every time he disappears."
"You want to go and look for him, need I remind you that you were sho-"
"I didn't say that, I have a different distraction in mind." He cupped his hands and yelled, "Gather around everyone. I have to tell you all something."
Tim, Jason, Damian, Steph, Cass and Duke all came and stood around Dick and Barbara.
"'Sup?" Jason asked.
"What did you wanna tell us?" Steph asked.
"I'm going to tell you all a story." Dick replied. Jason, Tim and Steph burst out laughing, Duke and Cass looked confused while Damian just tutted and rolled his eyes.
"Really Dick? Batman is AWOL and you want to tell us stories?" Barbara sneered.
"Yes, my mum and dad used to tell me some when we were travelling to go to another place and I was bored. Besides, when was the last time all of us had a chance to talk together as a family?"
"We don't." Damian said.
"Exactly why you all need to sit down and grab some snacks while I rest my leg and tell a tale." Dick replied.
"<tt>"
"Fineeeee."
"They better be good."
"Oh trust me Jay, they are. Now hush. I'm going to tell a tale of Cassandra and the junk food industry."
"Why is it a junk food industry" asked Cass,
"Why is it Cassandra who's the main character?" Steph asked.
"I call favoritism" Duke pointed out.
Dick just laughed and answered, "It's a junk food industry because the chocolate factory is too common now. And you'll find why Cass is the main character later in the story. But for now, pay attention..."
I'll continue this later if you guys want, I'll make a few parts with all the characters saying their own stories. Just a thought. Some of the classical tales relate to some of the batkids, but not all of them.
Will write soon!
After reading this chapter from a funny fanfic story on FF.Net by NotSweetSkills0112943 (Tumblr is @kmswit) about Dick telling fairy tail stories to the Batfamily and their friends. https://m.fanfiction.net/s/13326125/52/ (This fanfic is so funny and I recommend you guys read it. It has 52 wonderful short chapters and it’s still an ongoing series!)
It inspired me to come up with this canon. In this chapter Bruce and Diana really love chicken nuggets and before Bruce goes home after a mission with the League he stops by Mac Donald’s to get chicken nuggets and this lead me to thinking about the Batfamily, the League, and all of the other young hero team members loving chicken nuggets and eating chicken nuggets at every gathering, meeting, and celebration. Every time they all get to together Batman is the one who buys them all chicken nuggets from various fast food places and also customs orders huge bags of chicken nuggets from various chicken nugget factories. Some of their favorite chicken nuggets are the ones from Chick-Fil-A and Mac Donald’s.
It’s so funny when Batman and the heroes order chicken nuggets because they tell the people they are buying them from not to worry about shipping them because they will beam them up to the watchtower. If they are having their gathering on Earth they send some of the Lanterns to go get them and it’s always Hal, Kyle, and Guy who offer to fly over and transport them.
The reason why the boys always volunteer to get them is so they can eat some of them on the way. This all annoys the other heroes but, they let it slide and let them have their fun. As long as they don’t eat too many of them they are all ok with them eating some of them. Sometimes the other heroes and will go get them and tag along for fun and to see the workers faces and reactions and sometimes they will also have Zatanna or Zatara poof them with their magic but, a lot of times they let the guys do it because they know it’s so much for them and know they love the looks they get from the people, airplane and helicopter pilots and the passengers whenever they see the Lanters lugging around huge bags of chicken nuggets through the sky.
This surprised the workers and the new workers the first time they ever heard about the heroes not needing help with shipping but now it’s a common thing. Now all of the workers are excited whenever they see the ginormous order and hear that they are on their way to pick them up. The workers always look forward to the Lanterns and heroes visits and are always awed every time they see them and see them fly off with the chicken nuggets.
Now it’s the biggest thing the workers at the factories and fast food places talk about. They always have so much fun talking about and telling the new guys and each other about how they get ginormous orders of chicken nuggets and they all have so much telling stories about the heroes visits and the most random times the chicken nuggets have disappeared. It confused the new workers at first when they saw and heard over the phone about the ridiculous order of chicken nuggets and when they noticed a huge amount of them were missing. So now it’s standard protocol to inform all new workers that the heroes order ginormous amounts of chicken nuggets and not to worry if a huge amount of them go missing.
