he pauses for a moment to take in your expression. you certainly don’t seem happy. “yeah.”

“then i guess i’m still mad,” you tell him, shrugging your shoulders and facing forward once more.

maybe it’s trivial, but you’d expect that the guy who you thought was your boyfriend to have you saved as something more sweet than your whole name in his phone. you’d updated your contact name for him forever ago—a week after the two of you made it official. maybe that was a bit soon but it’s been months since then.

a pout overtakes your lips as you mull over the matter but a poke on your shoulder keeps your from dwelling too long. you know it’s suna and you contemplate ignoring him before he pokes you again. an annoyed groan rumbles in your chest as you turn around for the second time to see what he wants.

only, you aren’t faced with him, but his phone. it’s pulled up to your contact. instead of being met with the sight of your full name typed out across the screen, you see that he’s exchanged it for just your first—and it’s followed by a heart. its such a small thing that might mean nothing to someone else but the gesture means almost the world to you.

suna must sense a change in the air that surrounds you. he asks, “am i forgiven?”

you give him a short nod and an excited smile. “you are forgiven.”

his next question feels silly to ask, but he needs to know if the two of you are on good terms—the way you had been before your discovery of what might as well have been a crime. “are we dating again?”

“yeah,” you laugh, “i kinda missed calling you my boyfriend.”

And jiang cheng is none of the above sure he loved his family, his nephew and would die for them but that love was conditional and selfish, it was toxic and demanding.

for 25+ years she has worked to "cure" imogen. the only solace she probably ever received was in at least attempting to console the kids who found themselves lured in by her same pull.

liliana begs imogen not say that they may have to kill each other. she breaks at hearing imogen's resolve. but there's kids, imogen. there's kids here. imogen. she can't leave. she's a mom.

and, here's the thing: imogen's her daughter. the daughter liliana left. or tried to leave. the daughter she only had through dreams. and imogen is working with the volition. and imogen has been her sole drive for 25+ years.

and imogen might have just been involved in shattering the little solace she might have ever had.

playing ddlc for the first time in a while with a friend who's never played it before, and it got me thinking about my silly little queer headcanons again.

acespec yuri is so important to me. i realize this may be controversial because yuri is, both textually and subtextually.. just, so horny. (and kinky but this post isn't about that.) and i'm sure part of why i hc her as acespec is just projection and wish fulfillment - she is a cool character, we have some things in common, i like it when characters are like me.

but there's something else going on here, and i think i finally know what it is: yuri's yandere descent into madness and obsession with the protagonist is basically just what happens when you live as ace for years, thinking sexual attraction is only a thing in books and having a purely intellectual interest in it, and then find the one person you're actually extremely attracted to. i see u girl. this shit is crazy.

im so obsessed with how similar Thorin and Boromir are despite being in two completely different stories. their whole arcs are SO similar, from beginning to end. especially the end.

the whole prince of a failing kingdom vibe … makes them both pretty grim even if they don’t always act that way. Boromir isnt going to be king exactly, but the fact that his father is (just) the steward puts him in the same sort of listless position that Thorin is in to me. there’s uncertainty. (and, in that, loss of hope.)

Thorin gets obsessed with the arkenstone, similar to how Boromir becomes swayed by the ring. they’re the two main characters who become “““bad guys”””.

however. ignoring all of that, it’s the nature of their death scenes thats really striking, in the sense that they’re both purposefully short. empty.

im talking about the book versions here, by the way. they do die heroically in battle! and we root for them! but Tolkien does not let us watch at all.

in the Hobbit, the narrative follows Bilbo during the battle, where he meets an already dying Thorin. same in TTT, it follows Aragorn to find Boromir already riddled with arrows. we aren’t privy to the fights themselves.

the movies show the epic battles, of course they do! its gripping and emotional. but Tolkien is writing about war, from personal experience. he’s telling the readers that we shouldn’t want to read about something that horrific. so he doesn’t allow it to be entertainment.

how many enemies they killed in battle, or what sick fighting moves they made were not deemed important enough for Tolkien to write about. what was important, though, were the connections they made with other people before they died. that although their burdens were too much, and they made mistakes along the way, they still have friends there to remind them that there is still hope for a better future. even if it’s difficult to see.
