hoo boy am i glad you asked. although i’m gonna be real, my issue is less with fandom characterization, because you do you i don’t give a shit, and more with how people go batty if you personally are not a fan of fanon characterizations.

like, lemme be obvious and talk about my biggest example. i am a brown eyed lance truther. we know this. the amount of weirdo comments, weirdo DMs, and weirdo asks i get is atrocious. i post a lot of them bc they’re so stupid they’re funny but the amount of people per week that tell me to kill myself is lowkey wild. the amount of people that love to say some variation of “i liked your fic but you ruined it by making lances eyes brown! his eyes are blue!” and i’ve checked other brown eyed truther’s fics — either they delete their comments better than me, or they do not get the same thing. idk what the deal is lol.

i will concede to the point that i’m a contrarian and annoying about it, but a list of the following non-fanon headcanons/characterizations i hold that have been commented on in some derisive way:

**the allura hate is ridiculous and largely rooted in anti-Blackness. it should not be a fight to say that she had a reason to feel betrayed by keith’s heritage, that she did not “get in the way” of klance, that her death was stupid and ridiculous, that she is often pushed over in favour of klance (not as in she’s less popular, but that her/her death are used as a plot device to further klance), and that she is as interesting, nuanced, and multifaceted as the rest of them.

***people, inevitably, feminize characters in fandoms (largely because many people in fandom are young women, i know i feminize characters simply bc i’m making them like me and i’m feminine lol), and my issue is that people (in the general sense, not everybody) love to feminize keith and then get really mad if anyone else is feminized. this is not about fem or trans woman keith btw. this is about people omega-ifying him and then losing their MINDS if i don’t share that headcanon.

****i literally only wrote this once and then never again because people lost their minds. but as much as i love bi lance, i think it’s interesting that usually, when we see “boy crazy” or “girl crazy” characters, especially if they have a lot of chemistry or homoerotic tension with a same-gender character, people are like oh ya that’s comphetting. that character is desperately trying to outrun the gay thoughts. but with lance, who was definitely girl crazy and cared more about having a girlfriend than actually dating and falling in love (think “mrs blue lion” — he didn’t give a fuck about who he was marrying, so long that it was a girl), calling him gay will have people saying you’re erasing bisexuality. as if he was not fucking straight in the show. so.

Ship that needs more love: Shiro/Sven! There's so much selfcest for Shiro out there, but no one wants to pair him with the version of himself from an alternate reality? The one who isn't an exact genetic replica? It's two sweet, scarred, dorky (one slightly more than the other), and self-sacrificing space soldiers. There's a veritable trove of untapped potential, there! Shiro/Adult Hunk is also sorely overlooked and underappreciated. Those two would be so good to and for each other.

Ship that is most misunderstood: I'm worried I might get flack for this, but... Shiro/Keith.

I don't think Shiro had feelings for Keith or ever saw or entertained him as a romantic prospect, Pre-Kerberos. I don't think he and Keith were dating at any point during the first two seasons. I strongly dislike any interpretation that paints Shiro as dense or emotionally oblivious for not immediately acting on an anguished declaration of love that Keith offered to a brainwashed clone and prefaced with, "You're my brother". And, I can't stand how imbalanced portrayals of this ship are both amongst the fandom and within the show, itself, in favor of Keith.

Shiro deserves more and better than being reduced to Keith's emotional crutch.

A prime example of this imbalance is how often Shiro agonizes over Keith's scar, in fanfiction. The scar that he, himself, didn't inflict, but would still (in a manner that is completely befitting of his character) find reason to blame himself for. Meanwhile, Keith slicing the clone's arm off in order to defend himself, leaving a resurrected Shiro to inhabit a body without his dominant arm for their entire journey back to Earth, almost never merits apology or discussion.

The emotional distance between the two of them in Season Eight is blamed entirely on Shiro, victimizing Keith without ever considering that, beyond it being abysmal writing, the distance could be symptomatic of Shiro's poor mental state, and the fact that he has no one while Keith and the other Paladins all have their own tribes outside of the Voltron bond.

The Atlas's bridge crew doesn't count as any sort of support or real companionship for Shiro, as they're shown working out and socializing together while Shiro remains on the bridge by himself, absorbed in his duties.

I have my own theories about why "Kuron" appears to be more physically attracted to Keith than Shiro does that I won't get into, here. But, suffice it to say, Keith and Shiro have chemistry. They're extremely important to each other, intuitively know how to get past each other's emotional walls, and their bond defied death, itself. It's just a matter of putting them on equal footing, giving Shiro's trauma as much consideration and weight as Keith's, and not depicting them as seme-uke stereotypes because of their height difference and physical builds.

Fiery, intensely devoted, and protective Keith would be the dominant partner.

Not the near-completely celibate, heartrendingly gentle man whose brain and body have been ravaged by trauma, is terrified of being a broken monster, and was previously involved in a long-term relationship with a controlling partner who felt a need to "protect" him.

I have a lot of things to say so it’s all under the cut

First of all, wow. What a finale. What a fucking finale, man...

I’m warning you now this is not a nice rant so if you really love Voltron and don’t like seeing other people hate on it do not read this lol

Let me be honest, Voltron really isn’t that great of a show. I’ve pretty much stayed here watching the new seasons out of obligation and my love for the characters. Even then the writers still fucked that up so I’m stealing them all and they’re mine now. I’m not even sorry.

Voltron has always been a really tough show to keep track of and follow along with;; I never really know what’s going on and they introduce characters and planets so quickly that I forget about them right away and there’s like maybe 3 that are really memorable. So honestly the whole series has just seemed like an EXCESSIVE amount of filler that nobody needed. Even starting season 8 I had no fucking idea what was going on because the end of season 7 was just THAT unmemorable lmao. And they brought back so many characters I was like “Who the FUCK are you??” And it just made it ten times more confusing.

There was just so much unnecessary content we didn’t need in there. In season 8 they fought Honerva in her giant robot for like three or four episodes straight and that got really tiring really fast. Honestly most of s8 was just robot fights and I’m like “Are they writing a meaningful story or just 7 billion eye candy action sequences” TAKE THE TIME TO DEVELOP YOUR CHARACTERS, UNIVERSE, AND PLOT MORE INSTEAD OF DEDICATING 15 OUT OF 20 MINUTES OF SCREENTIME TO ROBOT FIGHTS THANKS. There are SO many plot holes and questions left unanswered that we’ll never get answered so that’s fantastic. Not to mention all of those fights were so fucking repetitive I got so bored watching the same thing happen over and over again. Voltron always wins, what’s fucking new?

Also man jesus christ they fucked over their characters SO MUCH. I’ll get into Allura last but let’s go down the list, shall we?

Lance was reduced to not only the comic relief but the super boring love interest. His relationship with Allura felt so forced and unnatural and there was no chemistry between them whatsoever. It was almost as if the writers were like “We need something for Lance to do in season 8” and then they decided “Let’s just make him a foil for Allura and make him her boyfriend!!” Like it was SO unnecessary and I’m sorry to any Allu//ance shippers out there but I felt so uncomfortable watching their romantic interactions. And I’m not SUPPOSED to feel that way. I actually did ship them until I watched this season but now I’m just really put off by it because WOW they wrote that romance horribly. I know people hate comparing Voltron to ATLA but take Sokka/Suki for example. Their dynamic is very similar to Lance and Allura’s and it’s a PERFECT example of what a good healthy relationship is like that isn’t forced or super awkward. If the writers had written their relationship like Sokka and Suki’s I’m sure I would like it SO much more! I was so upset to see Lance lose pretty much ALL of his development and be reduced to just a foil or a background character they could beat up on and use for fodder about Allura’s death. So fucking uncool. On top of that Lance became a FARMER?? REALLY?? He had dreams of becoming a famous pilot and yeah a war will do shit to you but I CANNOT imagine him living that sort of boring life it’s just not Lance at all!! So immensely out of character and not what he deserved. Lance deserved a real, true happy ending kicking ass in space and being in love with someone who really loved him back.

And Shiro—god, they fucking abused the shit out of him and treated him like a punching bag. Not to mention the awful queer baiting with Adam and then, to rectify their awful mistake, the writers made it so that he got married at the end of the series. Great. I don’t even know who the other guy is. Congrats Shiro, but it really doesn’t mean fucking shit if it was added on last minute and seems like a way to appease fans rather than to actually give Shiro a good ending. They could have brought Adam back and let Shiro marry him but nope!! They fucked that up too

Also all character development for Hunk went down the drain and he was also reduced to comic relief. He didn’t end up with Shay like I was hoping and just god so much racism I’m too irritated to even get into that

Keith and Pidge were the only ones who really got semi-decent endings and even still they were written badly too. (Doesn’t mean I’m not proud of them tho, good kids.)

And Allura.

FUCK. THE WRITERS.

They absolutely did not need to kill her off like that it was so pointless and utterly stupid that I’m sitting here rolling my eyes into the back of my head. They literally killed her for dramatic effect and that’s it. Yeah whatever she saved the fucking universe but they could’ve done that another way! That’s just lazy ass writing and it really offended a lot of people including myself so yeah! Not happy about that! It’s really racist and also pretty misogynist too?? Also Allura during the last season was not my favorite character at all she was written so terribly and out of character that I just ended up hating her and she deserves so much better than this absolute fucking bullshit

If they wanted to have a good final season, they should have kept Allura alive, given everyone actual GOOD character development, not threw in a super forced and uncomfortable relationship, and gave the characters proper happy endings with the people they SHOULD have ended up with. Not that romance is that big of a deal since Voltron isn’t about that but man they could have satisfied so many fans doing that but they just took the show and spit on it

So yeah I’ve had a really great experience being part of the fandom and creating content, and there’s definitely some good parts to the show. Voltron is a bad show lmao but I still had fun, and I’m still gonna make content that the fans actually deserve and want—and forget canon even exists. I’m salty and disappointed but I’m not surprised. Even so the show did end on as good as a note as it could have considering the circumstances and while I’m not 100% satisfied it was what I was expecting so. I’m like, iffy about how I feel towards the finale.

Anyway Klance is canon king, Adam and Shiro are married, Hunk is a universally famous chef with his gf Shay, Allura and Romelle are the new Altean Queens, Pidge is fucking amazing being herself and everyone’s happy the end

there’s a misconception that i want to correct about lance and keith’s dynamic in the franchise: the idea that lance and keith were at odds/rivals/hated each other in past continuities, when in fact they had always been best friends. 

isamu kurogane (GoLion)/lance mcclain (DOTU/80′s): 

leadership: kurogane/lance was kogane/keith’s right-hand man who respected and protected him. he never expressed any interest in leading the team or any jealousy/resentment towards kogane/keith. they had one argument that was precipitated by fala/allura being injured and was never brought up again. kurogane/lance was kogane/keith’s best and most trusted friend, whose input was sought out and taken into consideration.

romance (lance mcclain only): lance may have still been crushing on allura, but he prioritized his friends’ happiness over his own desires. when allura was upset about keith’s absence, lance was concerned for both of them. when they started dating, lance was happy for them. there was no drama. 

lance mcclain (V3D): 

leadership: lance frequently drove keith nuts and recklessly disobeyed certain orders, but he was loyal to keith when it mattered. he was also very protective of him, to the point of following him to certain meetings to ensure that he wouldn’t get hurt. they had one ridiculous fight (in which keith pulled a gun on him?? tf?), but otherwise, lance mostly just made his life difficult while also being 100% ready to die for him at any given moment. lance was keith’s best and most trusted friend, despite snarking at him all the time. 

romance: lance was way too concerned with cooing at the red lion to pay any attention whatsoever to keith’s little crush on allura. 

lance (VF): 

leadership: lance led the team in keith’s extended absence, but when keith returned, he was still incredibly loyal towards him. they actually had an argument as to who would die for the other (”are we really arguing about who gets to make the noble sacrifice?” “only if you won’t let me do it!”) because they’re Extra like that. they did have some minor tension in terms of leadership because: a) keith had been gone for ages, and lance had become accustomed to leading in his own way; b) the cadets (all young teens) were preparing to take over for the previous paladins, and keith kept asking when they were going to leave, while lance basically adopted one of them immediately because he loves kids. if VF hadn’t been canceled, we would have probably seen keith continue as king of arus and lance continue leading the kids, without any serious conflict.  lance was keith’s best and most trusted friend, one of the few people capable of making him smile. 

romance: certain writers planned to create a love triangle, but what they actually accomplished was making lance ridiculously close to both keith and allura, who randomly hooked up near the end of the series, to the confusion of everyone around them (not just lance, but also hunk and pidge). in fact, lance was so close to both of them that allura included lance in the discussion that really only pertained to allura and keith as the rulers of arus, because, y’know, he’s their best friend! i’d argue that lance had better chemistry with each of them individually than they had with each other, but hey, what do i know? regardless, there was no jealousy or resentment of any kind in this regard. 

lance has always been keith’s best friend. it was only very recently, under unique circumstances, that they had a “rivalry” of any sort. they never fought over leadership or allura in the way that many people assume in any past continuities. 

i can only hope that s8 delivers something akin to their classic best buddies dynamic.

VLD1x09 – “Return to the Balmera”

1x09 – “Return to the Balmera”

“Besides, it’s more like, ‘blam, blam, blam!’” I love when Shiro’s a dork.

As part of the team’s deliberations about an attack plan, Allura says they can track the Galra using Biothermal Life Indicator Point Technology. How would that track the sentries though since they’re robots? Anyway, the team has their plan, and everyone’s got their assignments. The Black Lion informs Shiro about the Jawblade when he’s trying to think of a way to take down some Galra battlements – given that at that point we’ve already seen Lance and Hunk take out battlements with Blue’s tail laser and Yellow just ramming into them, I don’t get why Shiro’s baffled about how to attack the battlements; just blowing them up has worked so far. Beyond that though, if I understand correctly, the Jawblades are an element of Voltron from the original? So, their inclusion in VLD is solely a nostalgia thing then because their design is kind of pathetic. The width of the Jawblade for the Black Lion is barely a bit wider than the Lion itself, so really, it wouldn’t be able to cut anything with the Jawblade and not slam fully into it.

Then Red starts shooting a special laser than melts things. Again, they’ve been doing fine just regularly blowing things up, so there’s been no narrative need for this fire beam. But the Galra’s big cannon is taken down, and it starts to fall, and everyone freaks out. If it falls and crashes to the ground, they think the impact will hurt the Balmera. They weren’t concerned with the debris from the other towers’ destruction, so why now? Also, if the Balmera cannot handle significant impacts on its surface, then it’s got a huge problem. The Balmera is large enough that Hunk previously mistook it for a planet or moon, so it’s big enough – which means it’s got enough gravity – that it would attract space objects. Meteoroids and asteroids would be something a Balmera would have to contend with.

To keep the tower from falling, Blue has an ice beam. At least the ice beam feels differentiated from a normal blaster, unlike Red’s fire beam, but honestly, I’m still not fond of these new weapons. Especially since the fire beam and ice beam are tied to the Keith/Lance rivalry. I’m so exhausted by stories using the cliché pairing of fire and ice as if they’re opposites. The thought behind it is so sophomoric – fire’s hot, ice is cold, thus they’re opposites. No, they really aren’t. They’re two totally different qualities. Ice is physics, a state of matter. Fire is chemistry, an actual chemical reaction. Fire and ice are not on a spectrum the way this pairing tries to portray them as; they’re totally different things.

I kind of like the mobile hovercraft the Paladins use in this episode; I don’t remember them being used much though throughout the rest of the series. The Paladins split up to do various tasks underground. Keith and Lance are paired together, with Lance proposing the idea that they shut the hanger doors to trap Galra fighters inside. Keith’s hand on the handprint of the Galra tech closes the door. That’s super convenient that the control system is set up to so easily and immediately give them their objective. I assume this moment was supposed to be the first foreshadowing that Keith is part Galra? Especially since Hunk uses a sentry’s hand for a handprint scan shortly afterward. How do sentries have handprints to scan anyway? They’re robots.

Hunk breaks a handful of Balmerans out of a cell. Shay’s been taken to the core of the Balmera. Shiro recognizes that they’re being drawn into an ambush, so he calls all the Paladins to reunite. The Balmera starts freaking out. With Lance and Keith under fire, Lance says, “We can’t shoot back. It’ll just make it worse.” If Lance and Keith returned fire and quickly took out the sentries that are blasting endless cover fire it would make things better, but the show wants some unnecessarily drawn out moment of Keith dropping in to sword the sentries while Lance invites them to shoot at him as a distraction. Hunk finds Shay, and all the Paladins end up trapped in the core chamber.

Meanwhile, the Castle Ship is under significant fire from a fleet of Galra ships. I don’t know why Allura and Coran hadn’t bothered to inform the Paladins of their situation until now when Lance asks her for help. That’s not exactly good tactical communication on the Castle’s part.

The Balmeran communication method of touching the Balmera and feeling Shay’s vibration and sending it to other Balmerans is… easy. Rax has a change of heart, accepts some blame for the situation, and wants to work to free Shay and ultimately all the Balmerans. I welcome Rax ceasing to be a jerk.

“You fool! You dare make plans without informing me?” Zarkon speaks in traditional villain-ese language. If the Galra Empire is as huge as it supposedly is, then various levels of its military would have to make plans without informing Zarkon of every little thing. For such a large organization as a military, the division of labor, and with it, many layers of decision making, is necessary. The idea that every decision, especially something like engaging in a point-of-incursion response to the Paladins’ assault on the Balmera, has to be run through Zarkon is unrealistic. The whole scene just functions to show Zarkon to be a typical cartoonish villain. I want better than that.

A Galra battle cruiser shows up, and it’s bigger than the Castle Ship. Allura is afraid the Castle Ship can’t handle being shot by the cruiser. Rax and some other Balmerans break Shay and the Paladins out. The Galra are trying to tractor beam steal the Lions, but the Paladins quickly recover their Lions and take to the sky and attack the Galra fighters. Again, the fire and ice beams are used for no real reason that regular blasters couldn’t handle. The cruiser shoots a sustained blast at the Castle Ship. The Paladins form Voltron, which we haven’t seen for a few episodes, so it’s kind of nice to see it again now. With Voltron engaging the cruiser, the Castle Ship is able to use its blasters to destroy the cruiser and a bunch of remaining fighters. Since the Castle Ship mostly just sits around getting shot at in this show, I had forgotten that it even had significant weaponry.

Our heroes think they have the chance to breathe and make repairs, but another Robeast lands on the surface of the Balmera, setting up the next episode.

I don’t really feel like there’s much to analyze in this episode. It’s mostly action oriented, it’s connected well structurally to the narrative from episodes before and to episodes to come. Overall, it’s an okay, decent enough episode.

The music was loud, beating away in Lance’s chest like a drum. He loved it; loved the way it felt like a second heartbeat, loved how fuzzy his head felt. He was leaning against the wall of Hunk’s basement, red solo cup in hand. His head was thrown back with laughter and Hunk was standing across from him, a flush painting his cheeks the softest shade of pink. Pidge was next to him, sly grin on her face as she watched Lance laugh like her silly pun was the funniest thing he’d ever heard in his life. This was what he needed. Midterms had just ended and it had been hell week to say the least— Lance had taken five midterms in two days and his brain was officially mush.

“This party is going great, Hunk.” Pidge said as she waited for Lance to calm his tipsy self back down. It was true, the basement was filled with nearly fifty people milling about, playing pong and just generally having fun. It was the most successful party they’d had to date.” But I can think of one thing to make it better.”

“You’re gonna say truth or dare!” Lance accused, thrusting a finger towards Pidge.

Pidge had been trying to get them to agree to truth or dare since the start of the year and every time Hunk and Lance had refused. Lance wasn’t sure what it was exactly, but he knew Pidge had a plan and he did not want to walk right into what was an obviously set trap. “Of course I am.”

Maybe it was the alcohol or maybe it was because midterms had just wrecked them all, but Hunk met Lance’s gaze, gave a slight shrug and finally said “I’ll play.”

Lance looked back at him for a long moment. When he agreed, it was definitely because of the alcohol. Pidge was one his best friends, though, so he figured it couldn’t go too wrong. Still, the way Pidge’s grin spread all the way across her face made him a little nervous. He lifted his cup to his mouth and took another swig. He’d never liked the taste of beer but at this point he couldn’t really taste it anymore. Plus, they called it liquid courage for a reason.

“Finally!” Pidge set her bottle down on the nearby table and clapped her hands together happily. “Okay! Are you guys ready?”

“Is it literally just going to be the three of us?” Hunk asked.

At the same time, Lance rolled his eyes, exclaiming “I don’t know what you’re up to but this is so suspicious!”

“Fine, fine!” Pidge waved a hand in dismissal, turning away from them briefly to call to another group of people standing nearby. “Hey! You guys wanna play truth or dare? We’re just about to start!”

The group rushed over in excitement and Lance could immediately understand why. It was his sister, Veronica, and her group of friends. Lance liked them for the most part, but there was one person is particular he hated. He was constantly asking Veronica why she was friends with Griffin and she insisted that he wasn’t that bad once you got to know him but Lance remained unconvinced.

“Can we play, too?” Lance turned to see his RA, Shiro, with his boyfriend, Adam. Technically Lance wasn’t supposed to be friends with his RA but Shiro was really cool and laid back and he laughed at all of Lance’s jokes. And since the party wasn’t in the dorms, Lance had thought it would be okay to invite him.

“Of course! The more the merrier!” Pidge stepped closer to Hunk, making room for them to join the circle.

Lance glanced around at their odd group and felt a swell of happiness in his chest. Suddenly he didn’t care what was about to happen because he was surrounded by some of his favorite people. He leaned to his right, pressing into his sister, and smiled to himself when she pressed back, dropping her head onto his shoulder.

“Okay, rules! You get to pick truth or dare. If you pick truth and refuse to answer, you are given a dare that you have to do. And if you pick dare and refuse, you get truth and have to answer that. Everyone cool with that?” There was a murmur in response of agreement.” Okay, Hunk you start us off and then we’ll go clockwise.”

“Right.” Hunk looked around the circle, taking time to really stare at each person. Lance wasn’t sure why, this was Hunk after all. He was going to ask something completely benign and harmless no matter who he chose. “Adam, truth or dare?”

“It’s early enough in the game that I can choose Truth without being too lame. So, truth.” Everyone chuckled at his response.

It took a few moments and a long drink on Hunk’s part before he asked, “If you had to date anyone in this circle besides Shiro, who would it be?”

Surprised by his boldness, Lance shot Hunk a proud smile. Adam hummed as he thought, looking around the circle himself. Lance sipped at his drink.

Finally, Adam answered. “Lance, probably.”

“Hell yeah!” Lance cried, throwing a fist in the air in triumph. “I’m a ladies man and a mans man! And everybody man!” Veronica nudged him but everyone laughed. He pointed dramatically at Shiro, “Better watch your back!”

Shiro laughed, taking Adam’s hand and threading their fingers together. “Somehow I’m not worried about it. I am worried about your ego though, it’s getting a little big over there.”

“A little big?” Hunk stepped forward so he could see Shiro around Pidge. “Have you met Lance before? It’s always been huge!”

“Hey!” Lance cried indignantly.

“Okay, okay, my turn.” Pidge settled everyone down and then pretended to think of who to choose. It was clear that she knew ahead of time by the mischievous look in her eyes. “Lance, truth or dare?”

Lance was distinctly unsurprised to have Pidge pick him and answered with a simple “Truth.”

The smile that Pidge gave him in response indicated that he had just given her exactly the answer she wanted. Not even the alcohol or the slight fogginess in his head could stifle the dread that came with that look. “Who do you have a crush on?”

Suddenly Lance wished nobody else had joined their game. Pidge knew he had a crush on someone, but he’d been adamantly refusing to tell her who. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust her, it was more that he didn’t want to admit it to himself. Still, as soon as she asked her question he got a flash of violet eyes and a dark mullet that he would know anywhere. Immediately his drunk brain moved from that to flushed cheeks and soft looking lips that he’d dreamed about kissing so many times. He’d memorized Keith so well that he could trace the sharp angle of his jaw completely in his mind. Involuntarily, Lance’s eyes focused past Pidge’s shoulders to where Keith was on the other side of the room, talking to Hunk’s crush, Shay.

“I don't—” Lance cleared his throat, hoping to make him voice sound a little steadier as he looked back at Pidge. “I don’t have a crush on anyone.”

“If you refuse to answer, you have to do a dare.” Pidge reminded him.

“I’m not refusing! I just answered! The answer is nobody!” Lance swallowed, suddenly feeling too hot.

“Then why are you blushing so much?” Adam asked with a grin.

Shiro chimed in, too. “Seriously, give it up. We all know there’s someone.”

“No there isn’t!”

“One more chance to tell us or I get to give you a dare!” Pidge warned.

Lance could only imagine what dare Pidge would come up with for him, but somehow it still wasn’t as terrifying as the prospect of admitting his crush on Keith. It wasn’t that the others wouldn’t understand, because literally everyone had a crush on Keith. He was just one of the masses, no different than everyone else, pining uselessly over someone he’d never have a chance with. Plus. he and Keith had just become lab partners in Chemistry and things were going okay. Lance didn’t want to ruin that by word getting around about his hopeless crush.

With a defeated sigh, Lance met Pidge’s gaze. “Give me a dare.”

To his surprise, Pidge didn’t look disappointed. He had expected her to be upset at missing her chance but, instead, she looked even more pleased than she had before. It was a moment before Pidge gave her dare that Lance realized that Pidge knew exactly who he had a crush on, she just wanted him to admit it. He felt his world crash around him as she said. “I dare you to give Keith a kiss.”

“No, no way, absolutely not.” Lance was shaking his head so fast it made him dizzy. “I will absolutely not give Keith a kiss.”

“Sorry Lance,” it was Veronica, her hand suddenly clasping his shoulder. “But you agreed to the rules at the beginning. You can’t refuse your dare.”

Next to her, Griffin was laughing, practically doubled over on himself. “Kogane is gonna kick the shit out of you, man. “

The world was spinning around Lance and it wasn’t the alcohol. He could feel his hands trembling. This couldn’t possibly get any worse. And yet, still, he knew Veronica was right. He had agreed to the rules, agreed to do a dare if he didn’t want to answer his truth. Something in the back of his mind was ringing, telling him that this was why he’d refused to play this game with Pidge so many times in the past.

“I never said you have to kiss him on the lips,” Pidge amended. “Just that you have to kiss him at all. It can be anywhere.”

Lance wanted to die. He wanted to shrivel up into a little ball and disappear from existence forever. Instead, he steeled himself against what he was about to do. Ignoring everyone around him and his thundering heart, Lance chugged the rest of his beer and set the cup down on the table nearby. He took a deep breath and tried to tell himself that this was okay. He could just blame it on Pidge, or on being drunk. He could blame it reasonably on a lot of things other than his crush. Keith was a cool guy, he would understand when Lance explained it away in class on Monday.

“I hope you’re happy about this.” He said to Pidge.

As he started to march across the room, he heard Pidge laugh, “Oh, I am.”

The lights in the basement were low and yet he could see Keith clearly as he approached. He could see the casual ease with which Keith stood, one hand shoved deep in the pocket of his jeans. Lance paused a few steps away, struggling with all of his might to maintain his nerve and just go through with it. He could get revenge on Pidge later. He watched Keith talk to Shay for a moment, trying not to wish he was the one making Keith laugh. Again his focus drifted down to Keith’s lips. He thought about being bold and kissing him square on the mouth, but he knew he’d never have the guts to do it, no matter how badly he wanted to. Instead he was going to go for a simple peck on the cheek and then retreat to the other side of the room as fast as he possibly could.

Before he could chicken out, Lance took a deep breath and started moving again. He approached Keith as quick as he could, heart thundering in his chest so loudly it was all he could hear. He was three steps away from Keith. Two. One.

“Hey Lance!” Shay said as he leaned in to plant the kiss on Keith’s cheek. He figured no preamble was better. He didn’t want to stand here and stutter out an explanation for why he was kissing Keith on the cheek, he just wanted it to be done. He also didn’t want to give Keith the chance to send him away because he knew deep down that Pidge wouldn’t accept that and he’d have to try again which would be mortifying.

Except, maybe a preamble would have been better. Because Keith turned to look at Lance as Shay greeted him, as Lance was leaning in to kiss his cheek. He turned all the way around just at the right moment and suddenly Lance was no longer giving Keith a peck on the cheek but instead was kissing him full on the mouth. The world came to a screeching halt around Lance and the moment of their kiss seemed to stretch on and on and on and on for eternity.

After what felt like years or maybe even centuries, Lance pulled back from Keith.

“What… the hell?” Keith was looking at him, lips parted in wonder.

Lance tried not to reach up and touch his own lips. Tried not to think about what it had felt like to have Keith’s lips under him. He definitely tried not to acknowledge the fact that Keith tasted like some fruity alcohol drink. Lance had never liked those but damn it was immediately his new favorite flavor. He wanted to taste it again, and again, and five hundred more times after that. He took a steadying breath, trying to focus on Keith and the question he’d asked and not on the way his lips were tilting up at the corner in a slight smirk.

“I, uh,” Lance shook his head, snapping his attention back up to Keith’s eyes. Not that it was significantly better, because Keith’s eyes were gorgeous and enchanting. “I was dared to kiss you. I was planning on just a cheek kiss but, uh, well… that didn’t happen.”

Everyone in the world had heard of sobering moments and suddenly Lance found himself in one. Staring at Keith, waiting for his response, pushed all of the haze out of Lance’s brain. Instead of the fog, his brain was filled with an alarm telling him to get out before Keith had a chance to kick his ass. But he couldn’t move, he didn’t want to move. Not away from Keith, at least. He’d be happy to move closer.

“You were dared to kiss me?” Keith was clearly looking over his shoulder at what Lance could only assume was his group of friends. He raised an eyebrow before focusing back on Lance. “That’s why you did it?”

There was an undertone of… Lance couldn’t name it. He watched as Keith took a step closer to him, and then another. He glanced down to Keith’s hands to find them empty, no solo cup in sight. Lance looked back up and held his breath as Keith came yet another step closer, their chests brushing.

“You didn’t do it because you… wanted to?” Keith’s gaze was fiercely unwavering.

Lance swallowed, certain his entire body was on fire. He could feel his soul leaving his body. “What makes you think I want to?”

“Well, for starters,” Keith leaned a little closer, dropping his voice so only Lance could hear it. Suddenly this was the most intimate moment of Lance’s life and he forgot the rest of the party existed. He could still feel the bass of the music thumping in his chest with his heart and he just prayed that it would keep him alive if his heart failed. “You keep glancing at my lips.”

As if cued, Lance lowered his gaze to Keith’s lips again, cursing himself for being so blatant. For getting caught. “That might be true,” He breathed so quietly he wasn’t sure that Keith heard it. He wanted Keith to hear it, but he also didn’t.

“And what if I wanted to kiss you?” Keith prompted, his lips forming a full smirk now.

“I’d say you were drunk.”

“I’m not,” Keith assured a moment before gripping the collar of Lance’s shirt and pulling him down into a fierce kiss, slipping a hand around his waist and pulling their bodies flush together.

Lance was absolutely certain he had died and gone to heaven but he didn’t care. He threaded his fingers into Keith’s mullet, tugging gently on the strands and marveling at the shaky breath Keith let out against his lips in response. His other hand traveled up and down Keith’s back, feeling his muscles moving under his shirt as he held Lance firmly, nipping at his lip. Lance succumbed, leaning all of weight into Keith. Lance could still taste the fruity alcohol and somehow managed to love it even more than before.

Kissing Keith the first time, though accidental, had been great. But kissing him now, with him kissing back, fingers insistent upon his hips, was so much greater. Every nerve ending in Lance’s body was singing as Keith continued to kiss him insistently, like it was something he’d been wanting to do for ages. Lance tugged gently on his hair again and Keith let out a low groan in the back of his throat. Lance never wanted to ever pull away.

But he had to. Because he had to breathe. If he didn’t breathe, he’d die. And if he died, he wouldn’t be able to kiss Keith again.

“That was…” Lance wasn’t even sure how to finish that sentence. Wasn’t sure he wanted to finish that sentence. He didn’t want anything to end right now.

“Just so you know,” Keith’s lips were flushed from kissing, a pink that matched the blush on his cheeks. Lance reached up and ran his knuckles gently along his cheeks, watching as the color darkened below his fingers. “You’re literally welcome to do that any time.”

“Really?”

Keith laughed and the sound lit a new flame inside Lance’s soul, making him feel alive. “I knew you were oblivious but damn, I didn’t think you were this oblivious.”

“Hey!” Lance defended, stepping back and crossing his arms.

Keith didn’t let go of his hips as he moved, keeping them connected. “Lance, seriously? I went out of my way to trade lab partners so I could have you. I’ve been dropping hints for months.”

“You have?”

With a fond shake of the head, Keith leaned in and gave him another sweet kiss. “Yes. I have. And clearly you have not been picking up on them. But you did kiss me back, so I’m hoping…?”

“That I feel the same?” Lance completed for him, smiling and letting his arms drop to his sides. “I do.”

He let Keith pull him in to a hug then, trying not to shiver as he planted a kiss on the side of Lance’s neck. They stayed that way for a moment and as they did, the world seemed to expand around Lance again. He became aware of the weight of all the stares on him, but he didn’t care. Because this was the best thing that had ever happened to him.

“So, why don’t you take me back to the people who made this happen so I can thank them?” Keith teased with a smile. “At least someone was observant enough to make this happen.”

Lance shoved him but immediately reached for him, pulling him back to his side. “Fine. Shay, you should come, too. I know there’s someone over there who’d love to have you around.”

With a smile, Lance grabbed Keith’s hand, trying not to faint as Keith intertwined their fingers and led them over to the group, trying not to blush as everyone hooted, hollered and clapped as they approached.

Unpopular Opinion:  I enjoyed season 8

So first, I’m mostly doing this to sort out my own feelings, but I DO think there are some things worth considering here.

To be clear, Enjoying something and thinking that something was perfect are different.  I enjoy plenty of things that are garbage and I do think this season had it’s fair share of flaws, but it’s not nearly as awful as some of ya’ll are ripping into it over.  In addition, regardless of if it is bad or not harassment of the creators is never justified.  EVER.  So if you feel the need to take out your frustrations on the cast/crew stop what you are doing then DON’T.

Why I was able to enjoy it:

Three major things I always keep in mind going into a new season:

1.  Don’t watch it FOR the ship, enjoy the show for what it is.  I think the primary thing that has allowed me to enjoy each season is I try to watch it without shipping goggles.  At the end of the day, shipping is fun but it is for fandom and not the reason I’m watching the show, especially a show made for 7 year old boys.  

2.  I (along with most of the fandom on this website) am not the target audience for this show.  Voltron may be an abnormally good kids show, but it is still a kids show.  I have never walked into a season thinking that it is content made for me, and the things that are important to me just aren’t important enough to 7 year olds to have the time I want spent on them.  I have to be okay with that because as much as I would love to have a whole episode of Shiro really struggling with what it means to be a leader, and the weight of Adam’s sacrifice, the 7 year old this show was made for is going to be bored shitless and decide “I don’t want that Voltron toy for my birthday after all.”  So yeah, that is going to change the choices the crew makes when they create these episodes.

3.  This is a reboot.  Several different companies have BIG stakes in Voltron.  Things like LGBT rep are only going to go as far as ONE important old white man who thinks (insert your fave here) is straight.  Anybody who has followed me for more than 3 seconds knows I ship Sheith, but knowing how the entertainment industry works changed how I thought the direction of the series was going from day one.  If it was so hard for them to get even ambiguous ‘Takashi, how much do I mean to you’ when both Shiro and Adam are legally original characters, there is NO WAY the powers that be will allow them to gay up big names in the franchise like Keith or Lance.  For that reason I never expected a canon gay relationship between any of the main characters.  No Sheith, no Klance, no Pallura, no Hance.  I do believe it was important to the creators and they did they absolute best with what they had, but ultimately it was not their decision and a lot of ya’ll need to stop acting like you are performing some kind of holy service by harassing them about it.  They did their jobs as best they could and the fandom was pressuring them the whole time to make promises they didn’t know if they could keep.

For these reasons I was able to enjoy the new season for what it was: a reboot aimed toward children that I shouldn’t expect a primary romantic plot out of.  And honestly?  Thats what I got.  The only big romantic plot revolved around Lance and Allura and even that was only a handful of scenes.  I think the main problem with this fandom has always been people putting unrealistic expectations on a show that wasn’t aimed at them.  Why people chose to put all of their expectation eggs in the Voltron basket specifically is beyond me, and frankly a bit unfair to the people who made it.  But we don’t have to get into that right now.

Things that I enjoyed:

1.  Hunk is best boy.  I loved his and Lance's friendship shining through and when he turned into team mom.  Some highlight include:  “It’s happening tonight, young man!” “I’m sorry I yelled at you.  I’ll make you dog treats later.”  When he made that Altean dessert because he is so sweet and knows how to bring people together.  What a star, what a diplomat, what a fine, fine man. 2.  BaBy LoToR 3.  Seeing all the paladins in their under armor.  I would feel robbed because Shiro was left out but the entire series has been Shiro fan service so I’m not even mad. 4.  VERONICA AND AXCA BONDING?  NICE.  Didn’t expect to ship them?  I do.  Nice. 5.  Everything about Day Fourty-Seven.  A filler episode I genuinely enjoyed.  MY only wish is we could have gotten Keith and Krolia in an interview together and she went out of her way to embarrass him like “while we were in the Quantum Abyss-” “Mom, why are you doing this to me?” “I have 20 years of Mothering to catch up on, young man.” 6.  Shiro feeling like a bad ass and looking cool during the arm wrestling competition.  What a good. 7.  This was really Allura’s season, wow, what a queen. 8.  Keith giving Lance a bunch of pep talks and opening up to become not only a good leader but a good friend. 9.  Keith YELLING at the Zarkon mech because he had leadership responsibility feels. 10.  I did not expect to have FEELINGS over seeing young Zarkon. 11.  Honerva’s motivations were honestly....so honest.  So realistically human, you know?  It seems so fitting that this whole thing began with a rift into another reality, and a broken family.  And it ended with a rift into another reality, and that family finally being able to be at peace.  That is the theme that has been following us form the beginning: family.  And even the final villain just wanted to fix the damage that had been done to hers.  Though I do feel like her turnaround was a little quick, I can forgive it for kinds show reasons. 12.  Allura getting to hug Alfor again. 13.  Lance getting the stamp of approval from the dad. 14.  Speaking of which, even I thought the Allurance scenes were pretty cute despite not being a huge fan of the ship. 15.  The character development that is evident.  If you compare all these characters to who they were in E1S1 they are all vastly different.  The only exception to this is Coran, though I do feel like Allura’s is mostly internal and she has a way of conducting herself that can make it difficult to perceive. 16.  I am VERY SAD about Allura dying...but you know what?  I think this ending actually suited her.  I don’t think she would be satisfied withotu making a grand reality wide sacrifice.  She restored Altea, and returned into the fabric of space-time itself with her family.  This has been being foreshadowed since Season 1 to be honest.  She is always taking risks and wanting to keep moving and bettering things.  She is perfect and we don’t deserve her and in my heart she is the goddess of reality itself. 17.  The scene where the lions all came to life and flew away, and then that lovely art of them going into the rift.  I really think they went back to Allura, and the next time the Universe needs Voltron, it will be her spirit leading the way.  And honestly?  I don’t think she would want it any other way. 18.  The MFE Pilots grew on me... 19.  MMMMMBIG ROBOT PRETTY 20.  We got Shiro and the rest of the paladins piloting all together again. 21.  ALMOST Galra Emperor Keith.

The things I didn’t think were great:

1.  What the fuck happened to Ezor’s voice?  She only said one word and I thought she was dying? 2.  Keith and Shiro like...didn’t even talk.  And even without shipping goggles that just seems wrong to me.  Their bond has been one of the points the story has turned on.  We got all the build up but none of the payoff.  No shoulder touches, no ‘I’m proud of you, Keith’, none of the usual friendship or dynamic they usually have with each other.  It felt kind of empty honestly :(  And whats more is...Keith has been sacrificing and fighting and loving Shiro for 7 seasons now, and Shiro never got to repay him.  Like he wasn’t in his hospital room when he woke up and nobody can fucking tell me when Shiro said “spend time with the people you love” Keith wouldn’t be spending time with Shiro.  It just....feels so dissatisfying to see one of the major emotional bonds in the show not even be acknowledged in the end.  It makes everything Keith worked for feel...not...there.  Like what did all that mean in the end?  As many times as it takes but he gives and gives and gives and the only one who returns what he gives is Krolia.  It used to be Shiro returned it too, but now...  Even without it being romantic, their relationship was done a dirty.  I didn’t need canon Sheith I just needed some kind of acknowledgement that all the suffering they endured was worth it.  I wanted to see them happy. 3.  Despite what I said above I am sad Allura is gone. 4.  Shiro was hardly in the season at all actually :((((((((((((((((((( 5.  Yeah, as cute as the scenes were I’ve never felt Allura and Lance have a chemistry that makes their relationship sit well with me.  But I guess it was necessary to show how Lance has matured as a person.  I always thought they have the POTENTIAL for chemistry but it’s always fallen short for me.  Allura just takes her life too seriously and her walls never actually came down enough for me to see a connection there. 6.  James and Keith never like...talked?  I would have liked for them to have had a reconciliation like Keith and Lance did. 7.  Lack of Krolia. 8.  Something was off about Kolivan’s voice 9.  TBH, I feel like The real fulfillment for Keith’s arc would have been his teammates encouraging and lifting him up as well.  Display his emotional availability which was completely closed off at the start.  I feel like they may have just dropped the ball on a couple of character’s arc resolution but...eh.  You gotta pick and choose what to focus on when you have an ensemble cast, and 7 year olds just aren’t always interested in that. 10.  Woulda been nice to get a bit more detail on the nature of the rift creatures and some more clarity for a through line from the beginning thousands of Years ago to now.  Along with that exactly what kind of entity IS Voltron itself?  A lot of seeds planted that made a half attempt at being resolved but weren’t quite clear enough to create something cohesive. 11.  I can’t put my finger on why but overall it just feels...Incomplete.  Like there is still a pit in my stomach that doesn’t feel satisfied by the ending.  I’m not sure how much of that is the season itself, and how much is I’ve been involved in this show for nearly 2 years and it’s hard to let go, especially on something that doesn’t quite feel like going out with a bang.

Highly unpopular opinion in my neck of the woods:

That wedding at the end?  I’m happy about it.  Do I think its bad writing to marry off one of your main five to a rando we don’t even know the name of?  Yes.  Am I annoyed that the fandom was SO awful and so accusatory toward the showrunners they felt the need to shoehorn in a last minute wedding because they honestly felt bad when the truth is this has always been a glorified ship war?  MEGA YES.  They shouldn’t have felt like they had to make this bad writing decision on the behalf of fans who have treated them and their efforts like shit.  Shame on the people who treated them this way.  They tried so FUCKING hard to give us something and ya’ll threw it away and called them evil.  I get how you feel but damn why don’t YOU try to make social change happen in the entertainment industry and see how well your LGBT paradise vision goes over when there are dozens of other people with a say.  (I could go on about how poorly that was handled on both ends, but that is another point altogether.)

More than anything, I’m happy that some 7 year old kid who LOVES the badass Captain Takashi Shirogane is going to see him get married on screen and kiss a MAN.  Like holy shit, that is HUGE.  Do I think it could have been written better?  Absolutely.  But This show wasn’t made for me it was made for the 7 year kid out there is going to think “Shiro kissed a boy, maybe I’m not weird for wanting to kiss boys” and THAT is what Representation in children’s media is all about.  I’m going to celebrate this and everything else related to Shiro’s LGBT status because what matters to me way more than ships or satisfying romantic arcs is maybe when my little nephew sees his favorite character is gay he will be a little more open and comfortable when I bring my girlfriend to family dinner.

I think it would do the fandom (especially the Sheith shippers) some good to step back, take off their shipping goggles, and recognize this for the stride in Children’s media that it is. That being said I’m gonna be reading and writing the fix-it fics along with the rest of you, because fandom and how I enjoy the show can be whatever I want.

The conclusion and why I still love Voltron:

You know what?  Yes I felt a little let down by the writing, but Voltron is one of the first fandoms I’ve been so involved in and I have had such wonderful experiences while enjoying this show.  I’m never going to let some dissatisfaction ruin this for me.  The nice thing about fandom, is I can enjoy my version of the show however I want it, and it doesn’t have to effect how I feel about canon at all.  And when I take off my fandom goggles, this season was actually pretty enjoyable.

I encourage anybody who has enjoyed the show up to this point to put your bitterness aside and do what you’ve been doing from the start.  Create some content, consume some content, ship what you want, and don’t you dare let anybody ruin this for you.  You have good memories with this show, keep them good and move froward.

Peace out my dudes, I’m gonna be hanging out in Sheith hell for at least another 6 months.

the thing about Kacxa and Allurance

NOTE: i am in no way an expert on romance and i’m not saying that Klance is definitely the endgame for Lance and Keith. i’m simply writing why i think that Klance is a logical endgame and could still be possible. please don’t try and take any of this as fact, this is about the chemistry i think certain characters have with each other. again, this is only my opinion.

so we all know about the possible feelings Acxa has for Keith, but Acxa wouldn’t be good for Keith. he is a very grounded and mature person and he needs someone who can lift him off the ground a bit, show him that there’s more to life than fighting and going on mission after mission. from what we’ve seen, i’ve picked up that Acxa is also very mission centric and serious. Keith needs someone who’s head is a little bit in the clouds and who knows when to relax.

now, onto Allurance. personally, if Allurance hadn’t been so rushed and showed mutual attraction earlier in the series, i would find it adorable. it’s a ship that i really like but it needs more development than it currently has. it won’t work out well if they continue it the way they’re writing it now.

about Lance, himself, his head is absolutely in the clouds. he tends to be very care free and makes jokes to calm down serious situations. he is not very grounded and he needs someone who can pull him down when he really needs to be serious. Allura is not all that grounded, herself. she’s still immature and she’s still got development to go. it would be kinda lazy writing to have Lance and Allura to grow more mature because of each other when they’re both just as immature.

i’m also gonna quickly mention The Fued. we know from Monsters And Mana that filler episodes can be very foreshadowing-heavy. A prime example is Shiro getting killed both in season 2 and the game, he left behind a rare item and his bayard, then he reappeared as his “twin brother” and his clone appeared in season 3. how do we know that Lance choosing Keith over Allura isn’t foreshadowing? how do we know that Keith claiming he doesn’t like Lance, even though he chose him over the rest of the paladins isn’t foreshadowing for Keith denying feelings for Lance? they could’ve easily had Lance choose Allura or had Keith choose Hunk (since Hunk is the paladin he’s most impressed by) but they didn’t. they had Keith and Lance choose each other.

again, i’m not an expert on romance, but i think that relationships should consist of people who can balance each other out. Keith and Lance are proven to be those people for each other.

Lance is the person who could get Keith to have a little excitement in his life. Keith can be the one to show Lance that not everything can be calmed down with a few jokes.

the crew know how well they work together. They’ve probably known since the first season came out. hell, Lauren even said that they would’ve written in if they realised but they’ve known about Klance since before they worked on season 8, with how fans brought it to their attention. Lauren even had a ship name prepared for them that means lion. you can’t tell me that their lovable dynamic wasn’t at least a little bit planned.

the crew knows how to write a good romance and how to make it happen quick. Hunay happened over two episodes and the whole fandom absolutely adores it. Lotura happened very quickly as well, they started showing obvious romance very quickly and kissed very quickly as well. both of these ships have a special place in every fan’s heart. so why? why are they suddenly bad at writing romance in such an amazingly written season?

i think it could be on purpose. I read something a while ago, after season 6 came out, from someone who has studied writing and plot techniques and this could be part of distracting from something that is going to happen to make it more surprising. this could be what they’re doing.

have hope, guys. we’ve still got thirteen episodes left. a lot can happen in those thirteen episodes, as displayed by this season. there’s most likely gonna be a lot more developing relationships in season 8 because all threats are gone for now. they’re focused on getting better after the crashes, spending time with family, and rebuilding earth. Keith could talk to Lance about how he treated him this season, since it wasn’t the best, but they were all under a lot of stress. just think about about their co-leadership this season. it was amazing. Keith out so much trust in Lance so many times. that has to spark some hope in you guys.

Allura couldn't help the tears bubbling at the corners of her eyes, she sniffled, sob, all the way to her usual coffee shop. Her stomach was growling, yet she only had a 2.75 in her account, and she needed half of it to take the bus home.

She sniffled again, her makeup running down her cheeks, her hair was a mess. She had also been wearing the same outfit for two days straight. She was sure she smelt, however, as the bell rang over her head, she felt that was the least for her issues, as her stomach twists into itself.

The inside was cool and empty, well almost as she noticed a man was sitting, hunched over, probably asleep with his head cradled in his textbook. She emphasized with his plight, she had studying to catch up with, a essay due tomorrow morning. She clutched her bag closer to her, striding towards the front.

“Excuse me." Her voice cracks.

“What!?” she flinches slightly. Drawing into herself, looking down at her scuffed tennis shoes.

"Um-I was wondering what I can get for a dollar?"  She found it hard to believe that her voice was her own. She shuffles her feet.

"A cup of water" she feels her tears tearing their head again.Should have known, but still she tries again.

"Oh, Is there anything else I can get"

"A cup of water" he repeats " look kid, if don't have any money I can't help you, that's the rules"

"I know, but-" but, she so hungry.

“Are you trying to get me fired or something"she shakes her head demurely "I'll take the water-

" Excuse me!" It was the man with his head in the textbook. He looked oddly familiar.

"Oh, sorry-I'll let-" she just can't catch a break, can she.

“No, um" he clears his throat "I was wondering if you'd let me pay for you" She blinks at him, as if she didn't hear him quite right. Allura shuffles her feet again-then it hit her, it was the man that she had caused to spill coffee in his lap!

"Oh! I Remember you, your the guy that spilled hot-coffee on your crotch when I asked you for the time!" She snorts, unladylike.

"Ah, yes" he chokes. There's a stubborn blush on his brown cheeks, as he turns away abashed.

“But, seriously are you alright, you didn't get like first degree burns or anything, I don't want to responsible for making you impotent for the rest of your life" her mouth is running a mile a minute. That sounded wrong out loud, she hoped he didn't think her rude? But that did sound a bit rude.

"No. No I'm quite find. No burns" She sighs out a breath of relief, at least he didn't sound offended.

"That's good, I really felt bad about that" she sniffs again.

“In any case, If you don't mind I would like to pay for you"

"I-I couldn't ask you to do that, besides I'm the one that owes you a drink after I made you spill one on yourself"

"It would be my treat"

"I don't know you"

"Lotor Daibaziaal. 24 Senior, currently studying archaeology"

"Um-Allura Altea. 19 , freshman, and I'm not entirely sure what I want to study yet, still trying to find my way and all" she smiles at him shyly

“See now we're not strangers anymore" he grins.

"Oh!" She laughs again " well, aren't you sly"

"But, you wouldn't mind, I don't like to ask, but"

"I offered didn't I-besides I have plenty to spare"

"Really"He nods, reassuring her.

"Thank you."

"You're most welcome, Ms.Altea."

She, or well Lotor had bought her a medium-size cappuccino and two donuts.

“Are you sure? Your not going to go broke or something?

It is fine, Ms.Altea trust me, I have plenty of money to spare, please do not fret over it.”

“O-okay, if you say so” she had ended up docking at Lotor’s small table. She sat across from him, sighing as she bit into her soft, donut. She moaned, it’s been two days, since she had anything to eat, starving herself to safe on bus fare.

“Here” she peers up to see a handkerchief handed out to her. She blinked, but she smiled shyly.

“Thank you.” she murmurs, taking it to dry her eyes, and tried in vain to at least clean some of her smeared makeup.

“If I may ask, Ms.Alte-”

“Allura, is fine, we’re both students aren’t we”

“Alright then, Allura. I know it’s a bit forward of me, but if I may, can I ask what has upset you”

“O-oh-it’s alright-its” she stopped. She hardly knew the man, yet perhaps, maybe talking about her problems might make her feel better. Her father did say that somethings are sometimes best confessed to a stranger.

“I-well-my boyfriends and I broke up this week”

“Ah” he said in a way that he understood her dismay. He leans forward listening intently, as if he were prepared for a long, long talk.

“It seems, so silly now-” she huffs “It was bound to happen eventually-you see we haven’t been on the best of terms, after we graduated high school-it seemed that-that-well I don’t know-” she was started feel rather selfish, pouring out her problems to complete stranger. Maybe this wasn’t a good idea.

“I’m listening, I’m in no particular rush to go anywhere. Talk as much as you like if it will help you feel better. Trust me, I don’t mind” funny enough his words soothed her worries. He certainly had a way with words, she’s surprised that he was studying archeology and not pursuing something in oration, like a senator, or lawyer.

“It’s just that we both wanted two very separate things in life. Lance already have everything planned out, he wanted to be pilot, and afterwards wanted to move back to Cuba where all his family lived-well I was too keen on settling anywhere, I wanted to travel, see more things. Still I didn’t know what I want to do-and things that I was interested in, Lance didn’t seem all that supportive or invested” she sighs “there was also the issue of his eyes wandering all over the place-y’know. I mean in high school he was the school’s playboy-I suppose I thought after we got together he would change-he didn’t. And it’s not like I‘m entirely innocent, should have talked to him about, but just let it be in the hopes that he would just stop, and after I graduated I’ve barely spent anytime with him much, getting caught up in work and extracurricular activities and such. It-it was a mutual break, we both decided it would be for the best. I haven’t really talk to anyone about it we’re both in the same circle of friends and I don’t want to start drama or cause anyone to choose sides in anything. It’s just been hard on top of other things, as well.”

Lotor hummed-he blinked as something in his mind clicked “By Lance, do you mean a Lance Mcclain”

“Yep-” she frowned “why-what did he do” noting the venom in his voice.

“He’s in my chemistry class, unfortunately, we both are collaboration partners, in which he always does his half of the project at the last minute. He also spilled hot coffee on my 30 page thesis paper, and dented my car, and still hasn’t offered to pay for the damages.”

Allura grimaces “Oh, so your Prince charming!” Lotor scowled “He did mention you quite a bit, he often said that you were a spoiled-uptight mama’s boy who took everything way to seriously.”

“Hmm, and you believed him”

“Huh” she shook her head “no, I know Lance, he has a tendency to antagonize people. He does the same thing to Keith”

“The one with the unruly mullet”

“You know him, too”

“Not particularly, again he’s in my chemistry class, though he’s not in my group, but I’ve seen Mcclain patronize him on a daily basis to be familiar with him, plus the hair rather sticks out”

Allura snorts in her palm “It does, doesn’t it” she watches Lotor crack a grin.

“It’s strange that we never crossed each other’s path”

“Well, you did spill coffee in my lap-but, in all honesty, I’ve seen you around”

“Really, where”

“Here, mostly, though I didn’t find out we went to the same school, until I say you stumbling out of Slav’s classroom”

“Oh, you have Prof.Slav too”

“In the past. Fortunately, I didn’t have to take any of his classes this semester”

“I going to go on a limb and guess it was all rainbows and sunshine for you”

“You guess right, my dear. I usually came out of it with a massive migraine and developed a twitch that’s just now starting to go away”

“Funny, Shiro does the same thing, every time anyone mentions multiple realities his left eye twitches. Pidge and Hunk keep saying on purpose, I think it’s rather mean”

“I don’t think anyone has survive that class without developing some sort neurological disorder” he muttered.

She laughs heartily. Perhaps, this day didn’t exactly turn out for the worst, after all.

Okay I need to rant. (spoilers)

//Quick disclaimer, I'm putting this in the Allurance tag in case any Allurance shippers might have any differing opinions that they'd like to share. I don't intend for this post to be especially offensive, I'm just giving my perspective. So if you ship Allurance and are easily offended feel free to ignore this post.

I like how I called that a quick disclaimer but it's like a full on paragraph-

Anyways;

So this new season did bring a lot to the table. We got a poppin DND episode. The Tea with Lotor was SPILT. We even found out that the paladins are going to Earth. Which is really exciting. I'm actually really glad with how this season played out. The only issue I had was Lance's character development. More specifically, the fan service that came with it.

Now listen, I love voltron. I love the fandom. Parts of it, at least. And I love the ships. I, myself, am a multi-shipper. But I've got to say that the way Lance's character was depicted in this season had a LOT to do with Allura. So they're pushing Allurance, fine, okay. Except well, where does that leave everyone else? I don't want to be THAT person, but not everyone ships Allurance.

I think if dreamworks made one mistake with this season, it's trying to make a specific ship canon. The fan service not only takes away from the show, but takes away the element that's vital to our fandom. The mystery. It leaves nothing to the imagination. Sure we can still write all the fanfics, make all the fan art and conjure up all the head canons we want, but having a canonical ship in the show makes it harder for fans to take the context in which the show has given, and bend it to our advantage.

It's hard to write say a Klance or Hance fic when you KNOW Lance is head-over-heels for the princess. Since Allura hasn't necessarily articulated her feelings about Lance in a way that we can conceive as mutual or contrary to that, it's a little bit easier to sort of ship her with any other member of the team.

Personally I ship Allura with both Shiro and Romelle. But as far as Lance goes, he still doesn't have that spark with Allura yet. Sure it's there. But it almost feels like they don't quite know eachother on a personal level. They know each others circumstances. They know parts about eachother that they have to know. But Lance has a better chemistry with plenty of the other Characters.

(I say this because we're like 6 seasons in and yet I still haven't really seen a lot of emotional development between Lance and Allura. I've seen emotional expression. I know Lance has shown some sort of feelings for allura. But I don't see any emotional bonding.)

Hunk and Lance have been best friends for like, years. Hunk knows Lance on a VERY personal level. And Shiro. Lance has idolized Shiro. Looked up to him. The second he was faced with Shiro he was mesmerized. And Keith. OHH BOY. Are we going to forget Lance literally recognized him BY HIS HAIR? Or maybe his playful, childish rivalry with him that soon becomes the foundation of a deeply shared connection. And let's not forget the ICONIC bonding moment. Lance has bonded SO much with Keith in the show. Confided in him. I could go on. There are so many instances in which Lance has bonded with the Paladins. Pidge too. God Pance is such a cute ship.

I can't think of a lot of deep connections he has with Allura. I mean they met and the first thing he said to her is "My name's Lance, and you're right here in my arms.". Okay, cute cheesy Lance is back at it again. He's constantly flirting with her. (Hell he flirts with like every girl) Only for her to play hard to get. What he's experiencing is ATTRACTION. Infatuation. Which, can turn into something beautiful, but they're rushing it so much.

What's so different about these instances and him flirting with Allura?

Do you see where I'm coming from? There's just not a lot of depth yet. If I saw a little more raw, deep, real connection between them then I'd be 100% on board. But I'm just not there yet.

They aren't even slowly transitioning into his feelings for Allura, either. Just one day he talks like he's all emotionally connected to her. But he's going through war right now. You HAVE to be somewhat connected to your partners. There's nothing special about his relationship with her as of right now. And yet like 90% of his character development in this season had to do with these "feelings" for her. It just doesn't add up.

Overall, the season was good. I hope that if dreamworks does decide to make a ship canon, while it isn't necessarily the best course of action (in my opinion), that they do it with tact.

Allura couples rating

This is my Allura couples rating and is based on season 1 to 6, but I am open minded and this may change depending on what happens in the next seasons

Shallura

Rate: 10/10

It's my OTP, and it's not something I hide.

I began to shipped them first for aesthetics, honest it was superficially in the began, I had seen fanarts before watching the series and I felt they looked good together, like a sexy couple of power. Then I started watching the serie and that's where I fell in love with the ship. They have many things that I like in a couple, both are mature, good leaders and seek the same goal. Since the beginning of the show, they have maintained a respectful shared leadership that feels organic, their relationship was similar to that of husband/wife work and both complement each other in a good way: The colors, white lion/male and black lion/female, heart and head and JDS said "If Shiro has sort of been like the edge of the sword, she’s been at the very, very tip of the sword saying like, 'That’s where we gotta go.' " And then there is the fact that they care about each other, Allura sacrificed herself to save Shiro and Shiro returned to save her knowing that was dangerous. When Zarkon attacked Voltron Allura ask for him and when Haggar attacked the castle Shiro screamed her name.

Now, Allura learned to absorb the quintessence in the episode that Shiro died and that is the same skill she used to put the quintessence of Shiro in Kuron's body. Allura was the one who killed Lotor (not on purpose) and also the one who brought Shiro to life. It was the beginning and the end of somthing

they both think highly of each other, The potential and those are details that they have make me ship them so hard.

Lotura

Rate: 9/10

I love them since the third season. Always though that they had potential since I heard the story of Coran and saw the memories of Zarkon, the fact that Zarkon gave the helmet of Lotor to Allura. And the past in common that they had.  Lotor found in Allura everything he was looking for in 10 thousand years, Allura found someone who understood her and knew her culture, someone who helped her to be closer to her father's legacy. And I am always to see couples with an hero and an antagonism, they are so complicated relationships and full of different nuances and feelings, the anguish always is interesting, seeing how things will be resolved: if the antagonist could change to be with the hero or if he destroys himself by not being able to change?, how will the hero overcome the feelings has toward someone should not? Will the hero overcome her feelings for the antagonist or in the end forgive him and try change the mentality of the antagonist and show him a better way of life? etc... And then there's the fact that they share many things in common, and Lotor relly love Allura (Naraku wanted and love Kikyo, but in the end he ended up destroying her because he didnt understand and accept his feelings, love is not always good, sometimes it's something violent and passionate that becomes destructive, is a kind of love and relationship that heals you or destroys you. Everyone has the ability to love, only some dont know how to love and prove it)

I'm sure Lotor is going to come back and I want to know what's going to happen to them, It's complicated with a lot of potential for chaos or something really good and is interesting their relationship. 

Allurance

Rate: 8/10

I love that Lance has genuine feelings for Allura and that he is a better person for her, but even so I think Lance needs to mature (Just like girls who dont feel complete if they arent with the boy they love, their maturity begins when they are alone and love themselves without a man. That's the kind of maturity Lance lacks) I think Lance has to be alone for a while and love himself without seeking recognition from anyone. And Allura loves Lance as friend/family but she has not seen him as a romantic interest. If Allura begins to see that Lance's feelings for her are genuine in the coming seasons and begins to look at it with different eyes, in addition to Lance maturing. It may have a lot of potential but it must be something of a slow fire and not start right now that Lotor is not there.

Kallura

Rate: 5/10

Kallura was a big part of the original tradition of the other versions. But as I said before in another post, this version has changed many things although it tries to maintain the essence of the previous versions (For example, Lotor is not a misogynistic type with harem but is still surrounded by Women, he develop feelings for Allura but in this version his feelings were reciprocated. At some point like the original version Keith was the black paladin, Lance the red and Allura the blue as in the original version but the real black paladin in this version is Shiro and he was never the blue paladin, he had a more active role as leader and he didnt disappear for a long time to be the first paladin that Romelle knew) Kallura may or may not happen.

At this moment I didnt see much of kallura, only in the first few seasons I got to see some pictures that could be read as future romantic interest, but even their relationship was very tense and when they were co-leaders didnt work. Allura was a rookie, she didnt know how to handle her lion and keith wanted to destroy Lotor (he put the whole team and her in danger), when they went to the other reality Keith told Allura not to go (Allura ignored him), they didnt have good communication so much was so that when Shiro returned, Allura gave more reason to Shiro of what Voltron should do, than to Keith who was the current leader. But hey, Keith spent two years with his mother, solving his insecurity of abandonment. Maybe this maturity will cause Allura and Keith to have more chemistry, it's a matter of seeing what will happen in the following seasons. But right now this couple is in pause for me.

Alluratt

This couple could have been higher in my rating, because I think they have potential but the truth they dont have much chemistry and they have not interacted much either (thing that hurts me). But the interest on Matt's part existed, I think it's cool that he found her beautiful and I got a lot of laugh at his reaction, see that he doesn't flirt and is like that with all the girls that he know is something I loved it. I had faith that they would interact more, but I think in the end Matt was just a boy admiring the beautiful in a girl and he is aware that there are many things to do, so he´s more focused on the mission than on finding a couple, something that I find refreshing and is the kind of maturity I expect from Lance.

Pallura

Rate: 3/10

Pidge and Allura have not interacted much and that these two are my favorite girls. I want them to interact more and talk about more things. relley I want that in these seasons their relationship grows. 

Allura x Hunk/Shay

Rate: 2/10

it's a bit difficult to see Allura with any of them because Hunay are my second OTP, they are very beautiful. Hunk fulfilled his promise, went to her planet to save her and taught a new way of life. Shay inspired Hunk to really want to be a paladin. Hunk when he can mentions Shay and Shay when she can mentions Hunk. both have a super pure relationship, in addition to both characters share a same core of goodness even though they are big and strong on the outside. They continue to be innocent in their own way.

Allura x Romelle

Rate: 1/10

I love fanArts are super beautiful, but they have not interacted in anything and I still dont trust Romelle at all. In any case the only character at this point with which could see Romelle is with Keith because Keith took 2 years to reach the colony how much did it take to get out of there?, the vortex of time teaches visions of the past and future. That means that Keith and Romelle had to have seen things from them, whether they want to or not. He is the one who takes her out of the colony and the first to believe her story soo he was the help she needed.

Voltron Theory: Relationships for Season 7 and Beyond.

Okay given the situation this past season with so many huge changes I just thought I’d hunker down for some shipping stuff….And I know I’ll be probably dealing with the fall out of this. So a heads up…this is just my thoughts on where the series probably will canonically be going based on what we’ve seen so far in the show. So ship however you like…

Also for those on mobile, sorry for the long post, but I’m not breaking this one up. 

Shiro

So Shiro has been through a lot lately. Space Dad was Ghost Dad for a while, seeing as he was a entity living inside the Black lion. Officially he died and was brought back, his body that of his clones, and he had to watch as his friends not only had to struggle with things, but also the fact that he couldn’t warn them fully what was happening. I mean the dude even lost his arm again and may (or may not) now have magical abilities due to his white hair. When Allura said to rest she wasn’t kidding.

Shiro x Keith: Well Keith said it, he sees Shiro as a brother and loves him. Frankly it’s no surprise that Haggar stated that he has the deepest bond with Shiro. Shiro watched him grow up, and clearly loved and cared about him enough to fight for him to go to the garrison and train. It’s always been hard for me, personally, to see Shiro as anything other than a brother figure to Keith, and so I think their bond is going to grow stronger now. Keith, taking on the Black lion will probably work with Shiro a lot in regard to figuring out what to do with the rest of the team and will more than likely try to help him out regarding his arm. I do think though that Shiro’s going to be taking steps back from Keith and letting him lead more frequently and directly.

As for a cannon romance, I really don’t see that coming at all given the recent developments. Ship away fandom as you will.

Shiro x Lance: Given how terrible Lance felt at the end of the season, I think Shiro’s going to at least try to help him understand that he did a good job. Lance pretty much was the voice of reason regarding Lotor, and I’m sure that Shiro saw that in him. It’s a shame that he couldn’t hear him, but still we know that there’s a strong enough bond there that Lance nearly had the situation figured out. I have a feeling that Shiro is going to be spending more time deepening his bond with Lance in the next season and trying to help him get a better understanding of his feeling for Allura. He’s also probably going to work with Lance and Keith to get them working as an even better pair of leaders for the team. I get the feeling Shiro is probably pretty proud of how far Lance has come.

As for cannon romance…hard to say? Given how Lance feels for Allura right now I don’t see Shiro at all getting in the way of that at any point. So Yeah, probably less likely to happen.

Shiro x Hunk: One of the issue right now is that while Shiro spent time with Hunk their bond isn’t as great as Shiro and the other three original Paladins. Hunk and Shiro have, I think, work to do on their bonding in regard to everything. However, I do think a lot of that is going to come from Hunk being the one to help Shiro get back on his feet after losing his arm, and he’s probably the one that going to make Shiro the new one. Hunk could become Shiro’s Winrey Rockbell in that case. I think too that Shiro’s going to see the leader like qualities in Hunk that he’s displayed this season and work hard with him to continue to be the voice of optimism in the group.

As for cannon romance, not likely. Honestly while there’s chemistry there, I don’t see them becoming anything more than really close friends.

Shiro x Pidge: Given their connection through Matt I do see the three of them bonding with one another. Matt probably will tease Shiro a lot about his time with his sister, and of course Shiro will be Shiro and do his Space Dad bit. Pidge is going to have to come to terms about what happened with the castle, the clone and the option she had made with the arm. Knowing Shiro he’s going to understand and pretty much tell her he’d have done the same thing in her position. I do think that Pidge is going to help Hunk fix his arm and fit him with a better one, maybe one that channels altean magic? That would be a twist given she can read the language now.

As for cannon romance…Less likely then it was early on in the series. Pidge has moved closer to Hunk and Lance than she is with Shiro, so I’m pretty sure that it’s going to remain a family like relationship.

Shiro x Allura: This is a hard one. While Shiro was gone Lotor moved in and pretty much stole the princess’s heart, and you have Lance now being the one close to her. It’s really hard to tell where this may go. I could see it being a huge possibility now that he has white hair and everything. But the way things are looking I’m not sure. Allura is going to be dealing a lot with her broken heart, the new castle and the fact that Shiro was dead and inside the Lion and she didn’t realize that or the fact that there are Alteans out there. She’s also going to be grappling with whatever remains of her feelings for Lotor and that of Lance’s feelings for her. Now I don’t think Allura is the sort to go into rebounds, but I have a feeling that Shiro may become someone that she deems as safe. She doesn’t see him as having feelings for her, and as a military officer and the former Black Paladin, she’s probably going to see him as a safe person to be around to talk about how she feels. Leaving the question of how Shiro is going to feel about her. Right now he’s going to have to deal with not only the former PTSD he was dealing with, but the fact that he died and that he was inside the lion. This probably gave him a deeper insight into the world that they live in, so maybe he can help her find a greater understanding in the Alchemic world she needs to dig into, and in return Allura could probably help him feel more human than he has given his situation.

As for cannon romance, it’s a hard one to figure because of the Lance and Lotor issue. While I can see it being something that could potentially happen, since Shiro wouldn’t be a paladin anymore after these events, that would tie into the whole “She wouldn’t pick one of the Paladins” comments we’ve gotten from the creators, there’s still a nagging feeling in me that the feelings these two have are more platonic than romantic. And Shiro is not the sort to go after someone that has had her heart broken. It’s a hard one to call…so let’s say a tentative maybe?

Shiro x Coran: Not a chance of this happening. Coran is his friend and older than Shiro and more a father figure to him. So I can’t see that. Coran is also going to be busy rebuilding the new Castle and Shiro is going to be helping but also dealing with his own issues regarding the whole Kuron and being dead thing. I have a feeling that we may see a new version of Monster’s and Mana showing up as a means of the team finding team work with Shiro being a paladin again, and well the insanity that comes with it.

As for cannon romance, no, not gonna happen.

Shiro x Romelle: This one is a tough call. Sven (or Ryou in Go Lion) and Romelle (Amue) was one of the best written romances on the Voltron defender of the universe show. It was a strong story about these two people who suffered abuse at their captor’s hand and worked through it as a team, coming to grips with their own fears and doubts to become strong enough to lead a revolt against Lotor and the remains of Planet Doom. The thing is right now, neither of them have met. We know their personalities though and I can certainly see some friendship growing here. Romelle would want to learn more about earth and find a way to free her people from Lotor and get them off planet. She, like Shiro, has suffered a lot, and, like Shiro, was the elder sibling figure to her brother. I have no doubt that these two are going to be able to relate to each other a lot through that and their own issues at the hands of the Galra. Right now, until the series actually shows us interaction, there’s only speculation. However, one thing we can point to is that her determination and desire to probably go back will be something that will spark Shiro into action, given that, at the moment, he’s not a paladin, and will probably not be one after this point. So who better than Shiro to help her and Allura go on a mission to free the Alteans and possibly grow to become closer as that plot line unfolds.

As for cannon romance, given that she’s new and we don’t have a lot of time, if this is at all going to happen then there is going to need to be a strong amount of chemistry here to sell it. But we’ve already seen that with Lotor and Allura so we know it can be done. I would say this is a strong possibility given Lauren’s love of the characters, but it’s not a sure thing.

Shiro x Krolia: Interesting thing that one. Shiro looks a lot like her late husband and it would be an odd pairing situation given the older female and younger male (December/May romance idea) going on. However I don’t see the show doing that. Namely because the focus of Krolia’s arc seems to be connecting with her son. Though it’s clear that Shiro has a lot of respect for her, seeing as he’s going to have the memories of the Clone and will probably want to get to know her. If Shiro is connected to Texas Kogane (as some are suspecting given their looks) then it may be an exercise in wanting to know more about a family member he didn’t know he had. Or it could be that she could teach him, along with Coran, how to fight again and deal with the new arm, since it won’t be of Galra tech this time. I can see a close bond forming over Keith.

As for cannon romance, I can’t personally see it happening…mainly because Krolia is a lot older than Shiro, and I get the feeling that a good deal of their interaction is going to be on Keith and how to help the Alteans that are trapped in the colony and what to do about the Galra and Haggar. However, never say never.

Shiro x Matt: Again this like Allura’s is tricky. Matt is a tad bit younger than Shiro but I don’t think by much. The two clearly have a close friendship and comradery. And Matt was determined to find his father and was thrilled when he saw Shiro again. Shiro clearly cares about him and wanted to find him as much as Pidge did, and was willing to stand up and protect him in the past, in spite of the fact that he ended up being seriously screwed with. Ultimately I think they have a very close friendship, but I’m not sure if more is there or, if there is more, than what that’s going to come down to in regard to their future interactions, now that Shiro, the real Shiro is back. Matt, undoubtedly, will feel bad about not realizing that it wasn’t Shiro he was interacting with and work hard to forge a closer bond with him, and probably help out with the Castle and with Shiro’s arm.

As for cannon Romance, it’s another hard one to say. We don’t know enough about Matt outside of the fact that he thought Allura was pretty, and has a crush on her. And Shiro, outside of the clone being happy to see Matt, we won’t know until they meet again how he’s feeling. No doubt that the emotions the clone had were the same as the real Shiro. So I would say this one is also up in the air as of this time…maybe…or maybe not.

Shiro X Lotor: Now that is a probable No. Shiro is not going to be happy with what Lotor did and probably will be helping in bringing him down. Although the clone was friendly with him, and probably made the same choices that the real Shiro would have made for the most part, I do think that there would be a disconnect here in regard to how Shiro saw Lotor. No doubt a lot of what he knows about him will come from seeing images through the Lions, and word of mouth through the others. Lotor, on the other hand, never seemed that interested in Shiro in the first place, and it’s clear that Keith is going to be his rival. So I don’t see much going on here, unless there’s something with Romelle and Lotor and Shiro and Allura fit into that somewhere.

As for cannon Romance, I honestly don’t see it. Lotor’s probably going to be on the Alt Altean’s side and Shiro is not going to be friendly towards him, unless they need to work together again, and even then the distrust there will have built due to Haggar being his mom and you know…cloning him.

Shiro x All other known characters: In regard to the three generals. The only one I can see a maybe with is Acxa, given her personality. But it seems they’re more focused on her and Keith. Unless something big changes during the next season, I don’t see much of anything going on. The only way for anything to come of that pairing would be if the generals joined the collation and wound up working with Shiro and the others. Rolo and Nyma seem out as well, as Rolo hasn’t shown any interest in Shiro and Nyma seems more content on maybe harboring feelings towards Matt. Ezor’s the other one, but outside of maybe flirting with him a lot, I don’t see that being an option for him. Then there’s Merla, but she hasn’t shown up yet and until she does, we won’t know what she’s like.

As for cannon Romance, again the only one that might stand a chance is Acxa and Shiro as you already have a hint with Texas and Krolia being a beta couple for it. Other than that, I don’t see anyone else ending up with him, and unless Acxa changes her mind and winds up joining with Voltron (which would again take at least part of a season and we really don’t have that much time left) I don’t see them really forming any sort of bond…so put it in the less than maybe pile of possibilities.

Keith

So Keith also had a really wild couple of seasons. Seeing that he was away from his friends and helping the Blade. Learning to be a leader and also someone that could reform the way the Blade operates by willingly trying to keep his team alive. Yet he still had his connections with the team, mostly Shiro, and later Allura and Lance. His arc with his mother was a lot deeper than I thought it would be and using a ton of visuals to tell the story was a good choice as it showed the depth of the emotion rather than told us how they were feeling. Given the fight that he had with Kuron, and his new knowledge about Lotor, and the whole thing with Romelle and the colony, not to mention Shiro being dead and then brought back to life, I think Keith had a pretty powerful two seasons. But now he seems more confident and sure of himself.  I think that he probably will be a stronger leader to the team, but certainly listen to the others and try to find the best way and differ to Pidge, Hunk, Lance or Allura, or even Coran and Romelle, or Krolia when need be based on what they know and their expertise in an area. It’s going to be an interesting several seasons (or two seasons if you go by 13 eps, or one if you only count a season as 26).

Keith x Shiro: As I said above the whole moment of brotherly love and devotion puts this one as way harder to do in cannon. It’s clear that Keith sees Shiro as an older brother and father figure, so I can’t honestly see him changing his point of view. And now with his mother back in his life, he’s going to be trying to be the helper to Shiro and get him back on his feet as he did for Keith. I do think that they share a vastly deeper bond than what they can put into words on the show, but I think it’s more a family love then a romantic one honestly, and that can be even stronger than romantic as you’re more likely to die for your family than your significant other. I do think that Keith is going to feel bad that he didn’t stick around and find out earlier about Shiro and his situation, but I also think that Shiro is going to be trying to help Keith get over that and find his way as the new leader of the Voltron group. And I think the duo are going to be amazing as a team.

As for cannon romance, as I said above, it’s hard to see it happening this late in the game, as well as now with the “I love you” declaration as brotherly feelings, canonically I can’t see it happening. But ship and let ship.

Keith x Lance: Whew this is going to be a weird one. On the one hand we have Lance clearly stating his love for Allura. On the other hand, there’s a close tie with Keith and one that will only grow now that he’s back on the team and working hard to become the leader. The two have become closer and no doubt Keith and Lance are going to have to come to terms with their own feelings towards Shiro’s situation and, on Lance’s side, probably a feeling that he failed Shiro because he couldn’t hear him. I can see Keith helping him deal with this, as we’re probably going to get more about Lance’s family this next season and maybe get to know more about him as a person. I also think that, if anything Lance’s family will get Keith to see Lance in a different way and maybe make their bond closer.

As for cannon romance, again I’m not sure on this one. Given the situation with Lance’s feeling for Allura it seems they’re going that way. But we don’t know exactly the feelings he has for Keith in regard to anything outside of being a rival that Keith still doesn’t get. So I’m going to put this on, not likely but not out of the running for cannon.

Keith x Hunk: We know that they’re friends, and that Hunk can make Keith laugh. We also know that Keith has a lot of respect for Hunk and probably is going to be doing his best to help him and Pidge create the arm for Shiro. However they really need to step up Keith bonding with the other Paladin’s this season and put him one on one with them. Hunk is close to Keith but not as close as he is to Lance and Pidge and I think that is going to make the difference here. Honestly I’m not sure where they can go with Keith and Hunk outside of Hunk helping Keith to deal with his issues regarding Shiro and what to do to help Romelle and her people as you know Keith is going to feel bad about that.

As for cannon Romance, I don’t think this is honestly an option. Hunk and Keith have had no long term interactions that even remotely suggests a deep enough bond to even begin on that track. I can see a deep friendship forming but they’re going to have to work really really hard for that to happen, and given his feelings about Shay and all that, I don’t see it.

Keith x Pidge: Like Hunk there hasn’t been a lot of one on one with these two in the bonding area of alone time. However there has been some connections made that are a lot stronger. More than once these two have worked side by side on things, and helped each other out of a sticky situation, so there is that. Consequently both were the only two that had direct deals with the Shiro issue, Keith with having to fight Shiro in person, and Pidge having to fight Shiro on a metaphysical level via the virus that the clone enacted, and her coming to terms with the fact that she never could trust him fully with that arm. It’s something the two will have to grapple with, and something I think will help strengthen their bond with each other. Along with Keith probably helping test out the arm that Pidge and Hunk will make for Shiro (because you know they will) and also the two will have the bonding over the “older brother” situation with Matt and Shiro as far as that sort of thing.

As for cannon romance, it’s another up in the air like Lance and Keith. I would say it stands a bit of a stronger chance right now than Hunk and Keith, but given how Pidge is…it’s really hard to say. One thing of promise is that unlike say Romelle or even Allura, Pidge and Keith already have had longer interactions, so put it in the maby it could happen, option. (I’m not holding my breath though.)

Keith x Allura: Yeah this one is tricky like Shiro. You have the whole thing with Lance again, but we don’t know how Allura fully feels about him. On top of that, you’ve already had moments, like Lance and Allura, where we’ve seen the two show signs of close bonding. Keith has grown, but I’m not sure if he sees Allura as a friend or someone he would like in that way. I do feel that he’s going to be working closer with her in regard to the building of the castle and figuring out how to handle the Galra and the missing Lotor, as well as the Colony. As I said with Shiro, Allura is going to be vunrable right now and dealing with a lot of things, and Keith probably has his own struggles with his mother being back in his life, Shiro having died on his watch and now brought back and his own issues, and becoming a leader and the Blades whom he’s probably leaving. So while I do think that they’ll help each other emotionally I’m not sure if either would be ready to be a couple.

As for cannon romance, as with Lance and Pidge, this is a tricky one because, honestly, I can and can’t see it at the same time. So let’s say it’s a possibility but not set in stone.

Keith x Coran: Not going to happen. Coran is that weird uncle figure you would have on the team and I don’t see that going forward for Keith. Coran will probably be working with Keith on the castle and the whole familiar issue of losing someone that you deeply care about as with Alfor and Coran, but I can’t see him being more then someone to help Keith grow as a leader figure. And be comedic gold at the same time.

As for cannon romance, this is highly unlikely, but Coran will probably be rooting for whomever Keith likes to like him back. Okay let’s just face it, Coran would be cheerleader for all the Paladins when it comes to them confessing to the person that they like (save for if that person is Lotor, and even then he’d probably grin and bear it).

Keith x Romelle: This one would be odd to me due to my own personal choice for Romelle. However I can see it as Keith is someone that she trusts a lot and someone she already knows. He’d probably be trying to help her deal with her brother’s loss and teach her to pilot and fight as best he can. We can already see he has respect for her as a person, but there’s no clear sign of her or him showing any romantic interest in one another. Also you have to consider that Krolia probably is taking her on as a daughter and Allura would no doubt ask her to be her sister as the two would certainly be bonding a lot. Although I can see Keith wanting to go help her work out a plan to free the Alteans, so there is that as his role would surrplant that of Shiro’s for this arc of the story. Romelle for her part probably respects him but doesn’t know him as well as the others, and her role is probably going to focus more on Allura and getting to the colony. It’s hard to say with this one where they’re going to go.

As for cannon romance, it’s a stronger option than say Acxa and Keith as a couple, but there’s a lot of kinks to work out in regard to how they would do this. I’d put this on a highly likely to be cannon, but not the most obvious. Major problem being how much time do you pull away from Keith’s other bonds he needs to work on. 

Keith x Lotor: That one’s out. Straight up. Keith is mad at Lotor, and with good reason. He won’t trust him at all, and if he does it will be with conditions. Lotor is clearly becoming Keith physical rival as we’ve seen the two fight a number of times now and certainly it’s clear that there is no love lost there when they battle. Also if Keith and Allura do become a couple in this I can see some serious contention between these two, or even Romelle and Keith given what he knows. Unless, by some weird miracle, Lotor switches sides again and pretty much begs Keith for forgivenss, I can’t see these two other than rivals or frienemies.

As for cannon romance, not a chance in hell. This is about as likely as Keith going out with his own Mother. It’s not going to happen in cannon.

Keith x Matt: Has Keith even met Matt? I can’t remember if they did meet or not physically. I know they talked over the communications during the battle but Matt hasn’t spent any time with Keith at all on off hours. Unless it was between episodes, which sucks. However, I don’t see Matt being someone that would interest Keith and, if anything, I could more likely see Matt either trying to hook Keith up with Pidge, or helping him with whomever he likes. He seems like the sort of dorky nice person who would love to help make others happy. The two probably will interact while the castle is being built and Matt is more likely going to be able to make sure that the Black Lion can do some pretty cool things for the team, but outside of friendship I can’t see much happening here.

As for cannon romance, this one, like Hunk and Shiro’s seems highly unlikely to happen to be honest. So it’s going in the unlikely pile of cannon ships for now.

Keith x Other characters: Again like shiro it’s hard to see who could end up with Keith. Acxa is a choice given their interactions. However, unless she flips sides with the generals and joins team Voltron it’s likely going to be a case of some sort of weird friendship coming out of this. Nyma and Rolo have not shown any interest in him at all, and the only other character I can see maybe being interested in Keith is possibly Merla, but she’s not in cannon yet and hasn’t appeared on the show. So probably a no go there until we meet her.

As for cannon romance, I don’t think anyone of these would be an end game for Keith. Honestly, I have a suspicion that he’s probably not going to end up with anyone by the end of this and be solo for the time being, as he’s got a lot of bonding to do with his mom and who knows what’s going to happen to the Blades and earth and he’s going to be very busy.

Lance

Yikes there’s a lot going on here. Lance has always been the guy that has had the emotional baggage, outside of Pidge. He’s home sick, as we know, he’s got a one sided rivalry with Keith, he’s had issues regarding Shiro noticing him for respect, he’s dealt with his own problems with Lotor and not trusting him, and on top of all of that, he’s got a deep seeded crush on a girl that may not return those feelings. So yeah, the next season I think is going to be a heavy focus on Lance and probably his family when they get to earth. I get the feeling that he and Keith are going to have to bond more along with Shiro in regard to Keith trusting him and understanding why he feels the way he does, and vice versa. I also get the sense that he’s going to have to come to terms with Allura and whatever she’s feeling and help her with that. That’s not to mention Romelle who probably will understand his homesickness better than anyone, outside of Allura, and maybe helping her deal with the loss of her brother.

Lance x Shiro: As I mentioned with Shiro’s post on it, Lance and Shiro have a strong bond, but one that they have to work on. Lance is going to feel very guilty over the fact that he didn’t hear Shiro fully and maybe feel a bit jealous of Keith for having been the one to find out. Ultimately though, as I said above, Lance and Shiro are going to end up having a closer bond I think. Shiro is going to have to help him come to terms with what happened but let him know he didn’t blame him and that he cares about him too and is proud of the person that he’s become. I think the three of them are going to end up working together on their bonding. Shiro probably will help Lance come to understand his feelings more for Allura and maybe help him get a better understanding of her as a person and her powers due to being inside the lion.

As for cannon Romance, as I said above, hard to say? Given how Lance feels for Allura right now I don’t see Shiro at all getting in the way of that at any point. So Yeah, probably less likely to happen.

I get the feeling that the rivalry will still be there but it’s going to be different and more like a friendly competition than just a one sided deal. Granted I’m betting Lance gets more personal development this season in regard to his family and I get the sense that he’s going to come to realize he has two families now, not just the one on earth.

As for cannon romance, again I’m not sure on this one. Given the situation with Lance’s feeling for Allura it seems they’re going that way. But we don’t know exactly the feelings he has for Keith in regard to anything outside of being a rival that Keith still doesn’t get. So I’m going to put this on, not likely but not out of the running for cannon.

Lance x Hunk: Outside of the throw away line of “Daydreaming about you…” there’s really been no hint of anything that could be seen as ship material here. The most we’ve had was when Lance helped Hunk in the mermaid episode several seasons ago, and that’s about it. However the two clearly have a close bond, seeing as they tend to work together a lot regarding aspects of the team. Hunk is the one person I think that saw Lance as more than just a funny person and flirt. He’s able to tease him with Pidge because he sees how much he cares for Allura, but at the same time knows when to stop and help him feel better. I get the feeling that Hunk, at least for his part, is going to be working with Lance on figuring out his role with Keith and maybe helping him deal with Allura and his feelings for her.

As for cannon romance, I really don’t see this one happening. Lance hasn’t shown anything towards Hunk and the reverse is true so…not an option at least for the foreseen future. It really isn’t going to happen.

Lance x Pidge: This one is another one that is hard to judge. Lance and Pidge, haven’t had as many moments as a team together like Keith and Pidge have. We were seeing more of Lance and Allura, or if Pidge was around with him, Hunk was there too, or Matt, or their dad. So outside of the Mall, Pidge hasn’t been directly with Lance, and I would hope that this upcoming season some of that changes. Lance and Pidge seem to have an odd relationship, half the time they’re on the same page and yet miles apart, the other half she’s trying to shoo him away so she can work. But we saw that she put his dummy next to her on the trip back home, so that at least says she cares about him…or his dummy at least. I get the feeling that the two probably will have more time to work as a team now with Keith back and since they are the arms between him. Hopefully we can get a stronger bond here, and Pidge maybe one of the few that gets the feelings about family that Lance has.

As for cannon romance, this one like Keith is a hard one to judge. We don’t know how Pidge thinks of romance as she’s never been shown to have any feeling for any of the guys. So my guess is that this is in the maybe area…given Lance and Allura and her own non exisitant showing of romance. So this could happen if they really gave it a good story…so maybe.

Lance x Allura: Okay this is a big one. Lance and Allura were heavily pushes via the whole Lotor, Allura, Lance sub plot. Hell she even knows how he feels now, and yet, I don’t know if she will, or can, return those feelings. Lance has comforted her and helped her out a lot after the whole Lotor thing and her own doubts. They have fun together, it’s something that she even says, but in the end it seemed like she was far more romantically inclined towards Lotor and it’s something Lance has to deal with. On the flip side we know that Lotor’s out of the picture now, so that opens things up for him. But…we have Keith and Shiro, and even Matt, so it’s hard to guess where she’s going to go. And if Lotor comes back and changes over yet again…well I feel for our Cuban pilot. I’m pretty sure Lance will keep helping her deal with her feelings for Lotor, but I don’t know if she’s going to return any confession he gives to her. I have a strong feeling both are going to be busy with their own things. Allura connecting to Romelle, and Lance connecting back to his family and trying to make a choice between coming back with them or staying on earth.

As for cannon romance, this one right now, outside of Lotor, seems to be the highest chance of becoming cannon. There are some issues, but this could be endgame for this series. I’d give it a highly likely option.

Lance x Krolia: I want to laugh, I really do, given Krolia’s age. But again, like Shiro this could be a December/May romance. But I don’t see it happening. Krolia is Keith’s mother and Lance is going to see her as such. Much like Shiro he’s going to respect her as someone of authority and learn from her. More than likely the two will bond with Krolia trying to help Lance understand Keith better and maybe even helping him with Allura. I have no doubt that they’ll become friends and she may become more the space mom figure to them, and meet with his family to assure them that he’s safe.

As for cannon romance, I highly doubt this one is happening. Krolia is too much of a mother figure for Keith and the others, and I can’t see her dating someone that is her son’s friend. So nope, not gonna happen.

Lance x Coran: Yeah no, he’s a father figure to Lance. He’s the one that helped him with his homesickness and probably will be the one that helps with his crush. No doubt giving him weird advice while they work on the castle. Again he’ll probably play the same role that he plays with Keith, helping him deal with what happened to Shiro as well as dealing with the situations with Lotor.

As for cannon romance, yeah…no. This one is another that is just not happening.

Lance x Romelle: Another one that’s hard to see right now, but not hard to imagine happening. Lance probably could see a lot of Allura in Romelle, and I can see them at the very least becoming friends. Romelle’s desire to go home and free her people would be something that Lance would be game for and want to help her with, along with getting a better understanding of Alteans. He, no doubt, would be the one to show off and offer to teach her to fly and shoot. Question is if she would return the feeling. It’s clear she’s more a Shiro type of person who questions things and tries to be a strong person for her brother but also someone who’s vulnerable. So Lance could help her with those homesick and loss feelings. I strongly suspect they’ll become friends long before we even see some romance here though.

As for cannon romance, I wouldn’t rule it out, but I don’t get that sense that it’s stronger than the Keith or Shiro pairing. But never say never I guess, so I would put it in a high maybe but not certain pile for cannon options here.

Lance x Lotor: A part of me wants to laugh aloud with the idea of this being an actual cannon option now given what we know about Lotor and that Lance probably hates his guts. Like Keith this is going to be something of a rivalry, and one that will, eventually come to a head. I do think that Lance has a better grip on who Lotor is since he had to be around him more than Keith did. However, I don’t see him having any sympathy towards him. Empathy, sure, he had a sucky life, but no sympathy for what he did given the altean colony. At best these two will be cool towards one another should Lotor rejoin Team Voltron, but I don’t see any love lost here in regard to any form of friendship at all.

As for cannon romance, not likely. Lance and Lotor are going to end up on opposing sides, and while Lance may understand him a bit better than Keith, I don’t see him willing to show any kindness after what he put Allura through. So this, along with Keith, is the least likely to happen in cannon.

Lance x any other characters: Given the situation with Allura, I don’t see them going with anyone else save for Maybe Romelle or Pidge as an option, but that’s a tricky one. The only other one I can technically see is Merla, but she’s not even in the show yet. Nyma has shown eyes for Matt, and Rolo hasn’t shown anything for anyone. None of the Generals have shown interest, unless they do something with them joining then maybe Ezor flirting heavily with him, and chasing him instead of him chasing her. But Acxa and Zethrid are more likely to get annoyed with him. So I don’t see any options with those guys.

As for cannon romance, outside of a huge maybe with the generals, I’m not seeing anyone that isn’t in the main cast being an option here for that sort of future.

Hunk

Hunk finally got to show some of his awesomeness this season. Learning about the Galra and getting a greater understanding of how their minds work, as well as working with Pidge to solve many of the issues and having an episode where he’s basically the leader of the group, it was all up hill for the Yellow Paladin. Regarding his role in the future though I see him being very busy with Shiro on his arm and bonding there with him and Pidge over that aspect. I’m also betting a lot of the time he’s going to be helping the others in personal ways, possibly even Romelle as she’s suffered a lot with the loss of her whole family, and, given his nature, he’s going to be the sort to help comfort someone in her state. I’m also betting more bonding with Keith and Lance in the future.

Hunk x Shiro: as I said with Shiro’s post, he’s going to be the Winry to Shiro’s Ed. Hunk has shown that he’s a smart guy both emotionally and intellectually, so he’s going to be very observant to Shiro and his actions. No doubt, the two will bond over the making of the arm and we’ll get some insight in to how shiro and Hunk see one another. There’s never been much in the way of romantic hints between these two so if anything Hunk would be the wing man to whomever Shiro wanted to go after, if he goes after anyone. And we already know Hunk’s type and his feelings for Shay exist so there’s that.

As for cannon romance, I’m not seeing this as a thing. Shiro is more a mentor to Hunk, or a friend, and I don’t see Hunk being anything but a friend and brother in Shiro’s mind, so this is the least likely to happen.

Hunk x Keith: Another one where we need more in the bonding department. Hunk and Keith haven’t really had time alone as a duo since the first season really. It’s been more on Keith and Shiro, or Lance or Pidge and even Allura. I think that they’re probably going to work on that some this season, by having Keith maybe confide things in Hunk or help test out the arm for Shiro so that the two can find some grounds to bond with. I can see Hunk helping Keith figure out his own feelings regarding everything that’s happened and, again, if there is some romance for Keith, Hunk would be the one to point it out for him.

As for Cannon Romance, again, not likely. They would have to really really stretch it a lot to get there, and with basically 26 episodes to go, that’s not a lot of time, unless they add more episodes, and even then, I don’t see it happening.

Hunk x Lance: As I said above I don’t see this as a really strong option. Hunk and Pidge both see Lance as a close friend, and while I can see Hunk caring deeply and dearly for Lance I really can’t see any romantic appeal between them. The closest we got was the joke about daydreaming about Hunk, which was really about Allura and them teasing him about her. However I do see Hunk looking up to Lance, even though he teases him. He knows Lance can be a strong leader when things get tricky, and does see the strength of character in him. I do think that Hunk and Lance will be working together again at some point, and probably Hunk listening to Lance about his issues with Allura and giving him some good and serious advice when the time comes. Outside of that though, these two will probably be doing a lot of work on the Castle and Hunk will probably meet with Lance’s family. Not to mention both seem to have crushes on someone already. Lance on Allura and Hunk on Shay.

As for cannon romance, it’s really iffy. I doubt that is where this series will go with Hunk and Lance, so my guess is honestly this will never be a cannon thing.

Hunk x Pidge: This one is really up in the air as it is. Hunk and Pidge have been working together very strongly recently to the point where they’re nearly finishing one another’s sentences. And it’s clear that Hunk was some what jealous of Pidge and Matt’s relationship when he came back. But that all seems to be smoothed over and the two are best buds again. Now, outside of the whole comment by Pidge’s dad, we haven’t seen any romantic situations between them. Rather it’s more like the two are siblings teasing Lance and trying to deal with everything that happens between them. Hunk and Pidge will more than likely be the ones that build Shiro his new arm and we’re probably going to see them working wonders with one another in regard to Coran and the Castle. At most, we may get Matt trying to get Katie to see she has a crush on Hunk, or Shay thinking there’s something there, but honestly these two are way too good as friends to see messing with that dynamic.

As for Cannon romance, Team Punk will not be going down that road, I don’t think. More than likely the duo will continue to kick butt as the whiz kids that they are and work as a team as the tech duo of Voltron. So no, this one I’m sure is out, but let’s call it a deep long shot possibility.

Hunk x Allura: This one again really has no chance. Allura and Hunk have never interacted in any way that could be seen as romantic. The two are already deep friends and work as a pair with the legs. Honestly I don’t think Allura’s really had any one on one time with Hunk and probably we may never see that. Though I would like it. I do see Hunk helping her like Lance deal with her issues in regard to Lotor and maybe see beyond her emotions regarding him. Outside of that, his working with her on the Castle and probably being the guy that can get that diamond working right will be the key to their relationship. No doubt this friendship and bond as the legs of Voltron will grow, but I don’t see it going into a romantic area at all.

As for Cannon Romance, probably a no. Hunk has feelings for Shay and Allura’s own issues with Lotor will be something to explore, but the two of them as a couple is probably a no go for this series.

Hunk x Coran: Coran and Hunk were really a great duo this season working with the ship and the swinging on the rope thing was impressive, given that Coran was probably fairly heavy. I think it will come down to Hunk and Pidge with Matt helping Coran create this new Castle and working with him to design things. Coran may be helping Hunk figure out the best way to create Shiro’s arm and give him pep talks about how to do things better regarding using Altean tech for it and no doubt Hunk and Pidge will help coran understand the world of Earth and their tech. So I don’t see much going on here.

As for a Cannon romance, not a chance this is happening.

Hunk x Krolia: Nah….Krolia will become friendly with Hunk and probably teach him about the Galra and their culture, but not in a romantic way. Like Lance and Pidge, she sees him as a friend of her son’s and someone that her son trusts with his life. This is important to her and that bond will help push them forward as friends. But I also think that Hunk will learn a lot from her regarding the Galra and their history. Hunk seems to get the culture quiet well and learns it quickly, so Krolia may become a source of help for him in the future regarding that and may possibly get the Galra to join and help them against Haggar and whatever she is planning vs. Lotor who they may see as an enemy now.

As for cannon romance, yeah this is another that is not gonna happen.

Hunk x Romelle: Hard to say on this one. We don’t know enough about Romelle, except really for her personality. While she’s determined, and can be serious, she’s also someone who cares deeply and is willing to stand up against something even when everyone else is telling her not to. This I can see impressing Hunk, but given his crush on Shay, I don’t think Romelle fits the bill for what he would want in a girlfriend. I do think he’s going to help in helping her help her people and, like Pidge, probably teach her about science on earth and more than likely the food there. I can see these two becoming friends and someone that Romelle can talk to about her problems in a way different than say Shiro, Keith, Lance or Allura, or even Pidge, Krolia or Coran. Hunk will, no doubt, be cheering her on in learning to fight and probably fly a ship or something. So I can see that as a possibility in the next few seasons.

As for a cannon romance, ehh…this one is harder to see then Keith or Shiro or even Lance. Hunk is already in a kind of romance with Shay and I don’t see him splitting up with her so he can date Romelle. So I would say, it’s a possibility, but very unlikely.

Hunk x Matt: Again like Shiro not very likely. Matt is Pidge’s brother so that would be really weird for her. Not only that but Matt has only shown that he wants to be friends with Hunk and is impressed with him, but never on a “Heart eye” sort of way. Meanwhile we’ve seen the sort that Hunk seems to go for, and Matt doesn’t fit that bill. I’m pretty sure that Matt and Hunk will bond more as friends, given that he’s going to more than likely help build that new Castle with them.  Matt will probably teach Hunk more about what he knows and will probably help him come up with working solutions for the uses of the diamond. I do think that, at most Matt will either tease his sister regarding Hunk, or try to set her up with one of the guys, but other than that, I don’t see much in the way of romantic activities for these two. Maybe spying on a date or something if anything.

As for Cannon romance, given the relationship with Shay and the fact that Nyma seems to be interested in Matt, I’m not really seeing this as a final option here for these two. So more than likely not gonna happen.

Hunk x Lotor: Yeah no, not happening. Lotor may have a bit of a sympathic friend in Hunk for his actions regarding the Altean colony, but I doubt that he sees him as someone he wants to be close with now, given what he did for the quintessence. I would say that of the team he’s the most likely, along with Allura to think of giving Lotor another chance and probably is the voice of reason in regard to that. But overall I don’t see Hunk being any closer to him then the others and the distrust level is high. Maybe not as high as say Keith or Lance, but it’s up there and he won’t forget what was done to his friends.

As for Cannon Romance, it’s not gonna happen. Lotor never gave Hunk a second look save for the whole culture moment and really I don’t see him seeing Hunk as anything but someone who is an ally to him at best, enemy at worst. So no, this isn’t going to happen in this series.

Hunk x any other character: Outside of Shay, maybe Ezor or possibly Zethrid could be interested in Hunk but again, unless the generals join team Voltron, it doesn’t seem likely these guys will intereact in any friendly sort of situation, other then civil for reasons. Nyma has shown interest in Matt and Rolo doesn’t seem interested in anyone, so I don’t see Hunk being main choice here.

As for cannon romance, unless the generals join up, I think Shay is more than likely Endgame for Hunk for the time being.

Pidge

Pidge had more happen to her in the past two seasons then in Season six directly. We’ve seen her go from wanting to do things on her own to working with a team, to being crushed by the apparent loss of her brother, to eventually discovering him and feeling happy, to fighting for the life of her father, to eventually having him and her brother fully back in her life. It’s been a roller coaster, however I would say that Pidge has a lot more to herself that I think she’s finding out. She, like the others this season, and that’s something I do want to touch on later, have secrets, and her’s was that she couldn’t trust Shiro enough with the arm to not make an anti virus in case he went rogue. This season has shown her growing as a person and dealing with connecting to others on a more personal and friendly level, I’m hoping that it goes forward into next season.

Pidge x Shiro: It’s an interesting situation here. Shiro right now is going to be needing to have her and Hunk redesign an arm for him (because, as you do) and it’s probably going to force her to explain what she did to him personally and talk to him about that other world that he was in. I also think that she’s going to be the one that will help him take matters in to his own hands in regard to being part of the team. She’s genuinely going to want to help him the same way he gave her help when she thought she was alone with her fight to find her father and brother, and I think that bond is going to get deeper. However, I do think that she’s still going to have her own struggles, mostly with probably Keith as his return changes their dynamic again, and Shiro may be the one to help her find a way to deal with that on her own with Keith.

As for a cannon romance, this one is probably not going to happen. Pidge has never shown anything but friendly affection towards Shiro for the most part. She cares for him deeply, so much that she refused to shoot at him when his Clone was escaping with Lotor. So I can’t see them changing that dynamic any time soon with a more romantic overtone.

Pidge x Keith: Again, I will be honest, I like this pairing, however, I do see that this could be a tricky thing to do. We have had more hints of the two having similar personalities and common ground, yet there hasn’t been a lot of bonding between them since the first, and one could argue, second season, what with Keith being away and all. My only guess is that they would have to push this hard if that’s the way they’re going to go with them. I will point out though that Pidge and Keith will have more time to bond with the building of the Castle and now that he’s the black Lion she’s going to be working directly with him as one of the arms, like Lance. So there is time for that. Also I have a feeling the two can bond over what happened with Shiro and their feelings over him. So that might be something. And, no doubt there could be funny moments of Shiro and Matt trying to hook them up as big brothers would.

As for a cannon romance, while I’d love to see it, I’m not sure. Given the circumstances right now it’s hard to figure it out. You have her being closer to Lance and Hunk at the moment, but there’s maybe something that could happen there. I’ll put this in the maybe, but maybe not, pile of possibilities.

Pidge x Lance: This one has more standing than the one with Keith, just by a tad. Lance and Pidge are the arms and work side by side, so naturally now it would be a good time to help him deal with his own emotions in regard to Allura. Although, given the Allura situation, I can’t see Pidge getting in between that, if they want to go that way. Pidge probably will be busy with Shiro’s arm and the castle with her dad, and Lance isn’t the most tech headed of people. On the other hand Lance probably will introduce them to his family, something that Pidge would want to get to know about, given his personality. I do at least see them bonding more and working together with Keith to deal with their own issues in regard to Shiro as they were the ones most affected by his turn directly.

As for a cannon Romance, again, like Keith, I’m not sure. They’re really pushing hard on the Lance x Allura thing right now, and Pidge has yet to show any interest in any of the boys, like at all. So unless they make it where Lance finally notices that Pidge is a girl in the way he does the other girls around him, I don’t see this going anywhere. Again I’d put it in the maybe, but maybe not, pile for ships being cannon.

Pidge x Hunk: This one is tricky! On the one hand you had her father saying that her mom and him met the same way Hunk and Pidge did. On the other hand we know that Hunk like’s Shay and they’ve been in communication, and Pidge is not the sort to break up a relationship. I honestly think these two are more straight up bros. They are best buds who get the way the other thinks, and I love the idea of showing that a guy and a girl could be friends without a romance forming between them. Something other shows tend to forget can happen. Honestly given the thing with Shay and the fact that Pidge has shown no change of being just friends with him, I don’t think they’re going to play match maker between these two. (I could be wrong but it doesn’t feel like they’re going to do that.)

As for a cannon romance, I would say probably not, but it’s a possibility way in the future. It’s hard to tell with Team Punk, but right now they are just awesome being their awesome selves and I hope that doesn’t change.

Pidge x Allura: This one is probably a no go at this point. We’ve seen the type that Allura seems attracted to, namely Lotor, and possibly Lance and Keith (possibly Shiro? Matt?), and Pidge doesn’t seem in that range. Allura has always wanted to hang out with Pidge, but I get the feeling that the two probably haven’t had a lot of time to bond. This is something they sorely need to do with these two characters. As much as I love the time with Hunk and Lance with Pidge, she really needs to get out of her trio area. I would say that they may bond over the fact that Allura is now going to focus on the castle and Pidge is going to help with that. Maybe there could be a girls day with her, Allura and Romelle. It’s hard to judge this one because, again, Pidge hasn’t spent enough alone time with Allura.

As for a cannon romance, like with Shiro it’s really hard to say on this one. There hasn’t been any clues given what Pidge thinks of Allura outside of being friendly with her when they’re working as a team. So I have to put this in the I don’t know to no side of the spectrum.

Pidge x Coran: See all previous comments on why Coran is a father figure. If anything these two are going to bond over the Castle with Hunk, her dad, Matt and Allura helping. So the probability is that Coran is going to help her figure out a way to be better as far as a builder and help her deal with her issues with Shiro and possibly leaving Earth again to deal with the Galra.

As for a cannon romance, no, not happening. Like at all.

Pidge x Krolia: As I said before and I will say again. Krolia is more a mother figure, and while it’s not hard to see Lance flirting with her, or maybe Shiro, Pidge probably wouldn’t do that. Krolia probably would help Pidge deal with her choices that she’s made. As someone who had to do things that she didn’t want she’d understand that better than anyone on the team. My guess is that a good portion of Pidge’s time with Krolia will probably be figuring out the best sort of defenses against the Galra’s attacks and maybe getting a better understanding of how that tech works and the way to program against it.

As for a cannon romance, as with Coran, it’s a no. I don’t see it happening.

Pidge x Romelle: This one is hard. We don’t know anything about Romelle’s feelings towards the others, save Keith and Krolia being the one that helped her to find the truth. I get the feeling that she probably would want to know more about Earth culture and who Pidge is and her family. That I can certainly see happening, but we don’t know how Pidge feels about girls, save Allura who she’s shown no interest in. Romelle is a hard one to guess, so I would think at this time, just friends, probably. Pidge would also probably try to hook her up with Matt, just due to the fact that she looks a bit like Allura and it would keep him out of her hair at points, or get him off her back about Hunk.

As for a cannon romance, unless it’s coming out of left field, or we see Pidge develop a crush on her, I don’t see this as something that could happen in cannon. More likely we’ll see them being close friends.

Pidge x Lotor: Honestly I ship this as sort of a Crack thing, but being honest, Lotor and Pidge are probably not going to be friends after this. While Pidge might get what he’s getting at regarding his plans, she’d never condone it, considering what they did to her brother, father and Shiro. Lotor, for his part, seemed to respect but neglect her a lot of the time. While he did see she was smart and charming in her own way, I don’t think he ever really saw pidge as a girl, nor someone that interested him in that way. I wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t realize she was a girl until Allura told him and he was like “Oh, well that’s something, isn’t it.” Something maybe to ask the creators about at some point, did he act like Keith where he knew from the start, or Lance where he was surprised to learn the truth. So given that Lotor is probably going to come back either nuts or with Merla and the Alt Alteans, I don’t see any love lost here.

As for a cannon romance, not likely. This was never going to happen, and quite frankly I’m not so surprised that it didn’t.

Pidge x All other characters: I really don’t see her pairing with anyone else outside of the group we have. The Generals strike me as not the type to be interested in her in any way, and outside of robots, we haven’t seen her showing a great deal of attraction towards. Rolo and Nyma are both out as Rolo strikes me as a Shiro type for her, and Nyma seems more interested in Matt.

As for a cannon romance, unless it’s someone we didn’t meet before, I don’t see it happening for her. Pidge also may be, like Keith, to end up solo in this series.

Allura

Whew this one is a messy situation with her. In the past seasons we’ve seen Allura go from a dedicated princess, to a fighter with the team, to being unsure of herself. Honestly, it’s hard to say where she’s going to go in the next few seasons, but some of her confidence is gone thanks to Lotor and her heart has been broken. Lance, thankfully, gave her some comfort when she felt lost, and we know that the others are going to be there for her. One thing for sure she and romelle probably bond a lot, as the two are going to need to talk about the Alteans and what life was like for her and Romelle will want to know about Altea. Should be interesting seeing where the Princess goes given she needs to build a castle, free her people, beat possibly her Alt descendent from another dimension, oh and beat Haggar and possibly some sort of monster. Should be a fun time for all.

Allura x Shiro: As I said with Shiro��s piece, it’s tricky with this one. Shiro is going to need help and care and Allura is probably going to be someone who’s also feeling broken right now. The two could find comfort in each other, but with Lance there, I can’t see Shiro getting in the way of that. Allura for her part also could find comfort in Romelle as someone who is Altean and dealt directly with the darker side of Lotor so she could get that, thus Shiro not needing to be there for her all the time. Also with the castle being built it will be interesting to see how she takes all of it and what her role is on earth. If there is time for fun, no doubt Shiro will show her around the garrison with Keith and the others, and maybe they’ll bond more. It’s hard to say at this point given the nature of how they may feel.

As for a cannon romance, again a tricky one. I would say a possible option, but nothing is set in stone at this point in time. So up in the air right now, but it’s a high possibility given their previous friendship.

Allura x Keith: Another tricky one. We’ve had the two having some tender moments and Allura coming to terms with Keith being Galra. Keith also, like Shiro, embodies a lot of what she seemed attracted to with Lotor. However given you have Romelle there, as a possible love interest for Keith, and the fact that he’s also bonding with his mom, she may not dive head first into a situation with him as a rebound. Then you have Lance and I doubt that Keith is going to hurt his friend in that manner if he knows that Lance like’s her. It’s a hard one to grasp at because Keith has been away for a long time, and we don’t know his exact feelings for Allura at this point, other than he cares for her and wants to do the right thing by her. So really it’s up in the air at this point. They’re going to need to bond a lot more.

As for a cannon romance, like Shiro it’s complicated. Allura has shown hints of liking or caring for all three of the main guys that are the most frequently shipped with her, so I’d put him in the same category as Shiro, but slightly less due to the issue of him not being around as much as Lance.

Allura x Lance: Okay this one is pretty clear cut. If this was any other series I would say that this is endgame. However, we’ve seen her reaction to the mice telling her that Lance loves her, and it wasn’t one of “Oh I love him back” it was “Oh Lance” meaning at the time she couldn’t return those feelings as she was in love with Lotor, and that still is a Massive problem. Allura may have kicked Lotor to the curb, but her pain is still there, and we know she cares enough about him to want to go and save him in the quintessence. Also I can’t see her wanting to rebound with Lance, because she may be worried that she’s only going to hurt him too. We know the two work well together as a team, and she saved his life. However we don’t know where they’re going to take Lotor or if he’s going to switch sides again, or what here. It’s really hard to figure this one out because we know that he likes her a lot, and has for a long while now, and outright said it to the mice. But that doesn’t mean he’s going to get the girl in the end. So again, complicated.

As for a cannon romance, it’s the most likely and the front runner for now, followed by maybe Lotor, Shiro then Keith and Matt, but it’s hard to know where they want to go with this. I will say it’s a highly likely to end game probable, but I’m adding that there’s still a chance for a twist to come.

Allura x Hunk: Not gonna happen. Hunk and Allura have not shown any interest in each other, like at all. Other than Hunk at first saying she was pretty at some point, but it’s clear he’s interested in Shay. As for Allura, we’ve seen her feeling for Lotor, and then you have Lance, and I can’t see Hunk wanting to do anything to hurt his friend. Also the teasing aspect shows that Hunk is more interested in fooling around with Lance and his crush then he is in chasing Allura. So I would say this is a no go. However I do think they’re bonding will happen more in this season as Allura learns more about earth and may go to him for help dealing with Lance and his feelings, as he’s Lance’s friend and understands him the most directly.

As for a cannon romance, it’s dead in the water. I don’t see this at all happening.

Allura x Krolia: Not happening. Krolia is Keith’s mom and as such Allura will respect her in that manner. I can see Krolia helping Allura sort out her feelings. As an adult woman she probably has more of an understanding of what Allura is going through regarding Lotor and Lance and the others. No doubt the two are going to become friends and learn about each other’s cultures better than before. I would also say that they will also bond over Keith and the type of man he’s become from when Allura first met him till now.

As for a cannon romance, not gonna happen. Like at all.

Allura x Romelle: Okay this one is an odd one because of the situation that they’re in here. We don’t know Romelle’s full connections to Allura as it stands, let alone about her family. There’s still a possibility that they’re distantly related, so there’s that. However both girls are going to be closer and like family any way because both lost theirs and they can understand each other in a way the humans can’t. Allura and Romelle are going to form a very strong bond, I would say one that Rivals Shiro and Keith’s to a point. No doubt that allura will want to help romelle become a better fighter, or understand the Altean tech more in regard to flying the castle. She could be teaching her more about Alchemy and maybe helping Romelle form a plan to save the colony. Whatever the case may be their friendship is going to be strong.

As for a cannon romance, given the situation with Lance and Lotor, I can’t see Allura using Romelle as a rebound either. She’d not want to hurt her and betray her the way Lotor did so, this is unlikely to happen unless it’s done after the main show story has ended. So I’m going to say maybe to a no on this as a cannon ship.

Allura x Lotor: Man…this is hard. Okay we know that she loved him, but him for her, that’s the question. We’ve seen in the past that Lotor is a conman. He even says it to Ezor after his little speech to the Galra, and later after the White Lion situation, he seemed to be scheming and pissed that he lost out. This could be a case where he was faking those feelings for her to get what he wanted, but we don’t know, because, again, Lotor isn’t honest with himself or others. Which makes this very hard. On the one hand, we know that she was willing to go back and save him even at the cost of her and the other team members lives. On the other hand she was really pissed at him for what he did. Still on the other hand, again, you have the fact that he was pleading with her and that seemed genuine. And on the other other hand, yet again, you also have the case for Merla and her possibly hooking up with him in the time he’s in the other world, if he went there. So unless Lotor flips, yet again, to the sides of angels, I’m not sure about this one.

As for a cannon romance, we’ve seen it happen so we know that it could work. However, given what happened with the Alteans, I say the likely hood is that this ship has long since sunk in cannon. So I would put it as a very very tentative maybe to outright no way in hell.

Allura x Matt: That’s an interesting one again because we know Matt likes her, but Allura hasn’t shown interest in him. We know that Nyma likes Matt, but we’re not sure how Matt feels about her. So it’s kind of convoluted. Matt also embodies a lot of both Lotor, Shiro and Lance all in one. He’s scientifically smart and can easily understand things, he’s worked with the rebels and can handle military aspects of what’s happening in the universe, he’s also a total goof ball that can make her laugh as we saw when they met. The Problem is that we haven’t had any time between them save for their early meeting. Unless a lot of bonding is going to happen visually between the next few seasons, this one is a tricky one to call. Furthermore, while I can see Coran, Pidge and Shiro pushing for this to happen, I don’t think Allura would use him on the rebound.

As for a cannon romance, I would say it’s a very lukewarm Maybe. We don’t have enough right now to figure out how either of them feels other then Matt’s crush, so that doesn’t help, and Allura’s dealing with Lotor’s heart break thing. So again, maybe, but it’s a weak maybe for cannon.

Allura x other characters: Unless another good dimension Lotor shows up from the Alt altean realm. I don’t see her with anyone that we’ve seen thus far. Even with the Generals, I can’t see them wanting to hook up with an Altean.

As for a cannon romance, I don’t see it happening outside of the group that we have.

If you’re wondering about the others and why they’re not in here, well there’s a reason. Right now we don’t have enough about how Romelle feels about anyone save Keith and Krolia, and since I already covered her with Keith in his section, it doesn’t make sense to do that again. There’s also the situation with Lotor in question and as I said in my other piece, there could be something there or there may not, it’s really unknown. 

And with Krolia it’s a clear mother figure for her going forward. Krolia and Coran are like the parents to this group, so unless they hook up with one another I don’t really see any romance happening in general for them.

The generals we have no clue where they are headed or even how they feel, they just sort of exist right now, a lot like Mai and Tai-lee did at first for Azula.

We haven’t seen Matt in a while and other than his reaction to Allura and Nyma’s reaction to him, I don’t see much in regard to relationships forming until we get more interactions with him. Also he hugged Shiro and that’s it, and that was the clone so…yeah really up in the air with him.

Lotor is a really special case. He never showed any interest in anyone, save Allura. As I said in my long theory post about him and Romelle, it would only make the most sense that those three are going to tie together somehow. The only other option I see in the future for him is honestly Merla. My gut is telling me that Lotor is going to come back with Merla on his arm and being either married to her, or connected as her lover or something, as she’ll be the Empress of the other Altea.

That’s all I got right now. We’ll have to see where season 7 goes.

That makes it worse...

Hey y'all! This is my first written thing on my writing blog! This is going to be a lot of self projecting feat. Klance. You might understand why, or maybe not? I dunno, we'll see :)

It was a night of diplomatic affairs. Aka, not something Keith was excited about in the slightest.

Allura and Coran were throwing a party, in the castle, to welcome an alien race into the the fight against the Galra empire. While Keith himself wasn't a part of Voltron anymore, the Blade was also invited to dine and be present at the meeting portion.

Keith didn't want to go at first, in fact he kinda still didn't want to be there. But there was one changing factor that ultimately triggered his need to be present. And that was a certain Blue eyed boy and his friends.

It was a formal event, so that indicated that everyone had to dress in a suit or a dress. When Keith arrived, in a suit that the Blade provided for him, he quickly saw people pouring in and out of the ballroom area. Immediately his nerves go still at the thought of being stuck in a room with not only most of an alien race, but also a quarter of the Blade. Not to mention his teammates.

Before Keith had the chance to scan the room for a group of humans, assuming they would all stick together in a mass, he heard a shout from his left. There, standing in front of the food table, was Lance, Hunk, and Pidge waving him down. Keith quickly broke away from his Blade posy to greet his old team.

As he walked up to the group, he got a better look at their attire and appearance. Pidge was in a dark green cocktail dress that had a trim of silver on the bottom and top, while the chest area had a silver sequence design of a rose. Her hair was combed and in a high ponytail with a lighter green headband, on her arms were long white gloves that came up to her elbows. Pidge's neck was shown to have a dark green collar which had designs painted with silver glitter. She looked stunning and mature, despite the fact that Pidge also sported tennis shoes with long white socks with the entire look.

Hunk wore black slacks with a light red belt, alone with a sunflower yellow dress shirt that was accompanied with a red and red striped tie. Hunk also had a dark brown vest that loosely draped over his shoulders, and was left unbuttoned. His shoes were black dress shoes with a golden buckle near the ankle. Keith noticed that Hunk was not wearing his usual orange bandanna and instead had his hair slicked back into a low ponytail. Hunk looked about as nervous as Keith felt, he didn't exactly look comfortable, but he was smiling as bright as Keith remembered.

And then there was Lance, and it's sad to say that Keith's first reaction was to do a double take just make sure that what he was seeing looked as good as he thought. Lance wore something slightly more flashy and scandalous than Pidge and Hunk, but that was only to be expected because... Its Lance. He had a sky blue sleeveless vest that was slightly unbuttoned at the top. On his neck, there were gold and pearl chains hanging loosely, whilst is looked like there was one that only had a string and a small shell. His black pants looked slightly tighter and maybe a size too small, but still fit his form to perfection. Lance also... Wasn't wearing shoes? Interesting? Anyway, his hair seemed to have been slicked over to the left of his head while sporting a single earring on his right ear. Needless to say, Lance absolutely looked stunning and gorgeous.

Keith almost felt embarrassed, his outfit was just a simple dark blue suit with light magenta trim.

Before he could get lost in his own thoughts, Hunk hands him a drink and makes some off handed comment about how boring the party has been.

“You look good...” he hears Lance mumble, and blushes slightly. Keith turns to see that Lance is looking anywhere but Keith and instead at a group of alien ladies that looks to be whispering among themselves. His slight bit of hope was quickly demolished and any reason he had to arrive all of a sudden seems pointless. But, Keith had to remember that he wasn’t just there for Lance; he was also there to visit his Castle family. While he doesn’t like to admit it, Keith absolutely considers the people he has been fighting alongside in this war, as his family.

Lance and Pidge had gone off to mingle, leaving Keith and Hunk at the buffet table. Keith glances over to see Hunk staring at him.

"Hey bud, is something bothering you?", Hunk asked with a worried expression. Keith didn't think that he even looked distracted or distressed, but he guess it would be hard to tell without being able to look at himself at the moment.

Thinking he was quiet for too long, Keith said, "Oh, yeah, I'm fine don't worry about it". Keith was bad at lying and he knew it. The only thing that was on his mind was Lance, and how stunning he looked and how his smile could light up a room and his laugh and- how could he possibly fall for a straight guy?! Keith had a plan on whether to ask out Lance or not, but he decided against it for the sake of Lance being straight.

"Nah man, I know you, there is something that is annoying your brain hole", Hunk said as he started poking Keith's forehead with the back of a spoon.

"Listen, its just a personal internal crisis... Its nothing you should worry about", Keith mumbled, beginning to get annoyed at the continuous spoon poking.

"A gay crisis?", Hunk said with a sly grin on his face.

Keith was immediately embarrassed and started stumbling over his words, trying to ask Hunk how he knew? Had he been that obvious? Was Hunk messing with him? What was he supposed to do?

"Keith, man, chill out. Don't worry, I won't tell anybody. I'm just wondering why you haven't asked him yet", Hunk said, putting a hand on Keith's shoulder. Keith slowly looked up and stood up straight.

Speaking of straight... "Hunk, I can't. I would have while I was still here, but I don't think he feels the same anyway. Hell, the guy is straight! What am I supposed to do now?!", Keith exclaimed with slight anger and sadness in his voice.

"You know he's Bi, right?"

"Wait... What?"

"Yeah, he's Bi. Dude, for chemistry class back at the Garrison he literally tye-dyed his shirt the Bi pride flag", Hunk told him as if Keith would know about this. Keith almost couldn't believe it, almost couldn't believe him.

"Are-Are you sure?"

"Keith, buddy, I am 100% sure he is Bi"

"I-I..."

"Keith, honestly, you should go for it! I can see you two being a thing and just- being you guys! I dunno man, all I think is that you should go for it!"

"Hunk... Thank you... Thank you so much! You gave me... At least some-", Keith manages to choke out until he stops mid sentence. Has he really thought about this? This entire time Keith had stayed away from asking out Lance simply because he thought Lance was straight. Now... Now it is almost worse. Because if Keith asked him out and Lance said no, it would've been fine because Lance wasn't even attracted to guys. It wouldn't have been personal. But now...

"Hunk, thank you for telling me... But I need to go", Keith gritted out while he felt tears prick the corners of his eyes. Hunk almost took a hold of Keith before he ran away, so Hunk was left calling after him.

Keith ran. And ran and ran and ran. He couldn't stand being in that room anymore, not while his eyes could still catch Lance's, not while Lance flirted with other people, not while Keith knew. Keith managed to find a small guest bathroom a few halls down and hid himself inside.

His tears never came, they were close, and he felt in pain in his chest and stomach, but no vomit, coughs, or tears ever graced the outside world. Keith just wanted to leave. He wanted so many things right now. Things he has wanted since he left Voltron. He wanted to curl up on a couch and watch movies with Hunk, Pidge, Shiro, Allura, Coran, and Lance. He wanted to cry out all his dammed in tears just so he could feel relief. He wanted to eat some of Hunks food, his almost best friend. He wanted to hug Shiro, his almost brother. He wanted to listen to Pidge rant, his almost little sister. He wanted to hear a story about Altea from the alteans, his almost uncle and older sister. But most importantly, he wanted Lance. He wanted Lance, dare he say, his almost lover.

He wanted to tell Lance everything, how he felt, what he wanted, where he would like to go, and who he would like to go with. He wanted to hold Lance in his arms and never let him go, just to make sure harm never goes his way. Keith wanted to lay in bed with him and be tangled him mess of limbs and loose blankets. Keith wanted to get all the love his had in his heart and hand it over to Lance. Keith wanted that more than anything. He wanted Lance, but the thought of never having him kept Keith from going back outside.

While Keith now knew he had somewhat of a chance, the chance came at a higher risk. If Lance rejects him, it won't be because of sexuality, it will be because Lance doesn't like him personally.

And that, in Keith's opinion, is way, way worse than having no chance.

Keith didn't come out of the bathroom for a while. But when he finally did, he decided that he should leave and just go back to the base. He felt shitty and didn't want to be there anymore for any reason.

Before Keith could make it out of the front entrance, he heard his name be called and quickly turned around.

Lance was making a bolt for where Keith was standing and make bi attempt to slow down. By the time Keith could register what was happening, Lance's body was pressed tightly against his own and he felt himself go completely red.

"Hey bud! Where did you go? Hunk told me you left in a rush really upset about something. I thought you were already gone, but I came over here anyway just to see if you changed your mind. Anyway, are you okay?"

Lance's rambling was muffled by the panic and absolute bliss he was in. Keith knew he shouldn't have be as happy as he was just from a hug, but he was. He made an attempt to speak, but nothing came out. Instead, he wrapped his arms around Lance's torso and buried his face into Lance's shoulder, silently whimpering.

"Woah, Keith! Hey, look at me...", Lance says as he backs away and puts two fingers under Keith's chin, forcing him to look up. Lance's face was riddled with worry and seriousness, clearly on the verge of tears himself. Odd, Keith thought to himself. Lance continued, "... I don't know what happened, and I tired to ask Hunk about it, but he said it was something I would have to ask you about. So... Now im asking. What happened? Did someone hurt you?".

Keith was silent as he held back his tears.

"Keith... Is that a yes?"

"I mean... I guess so..."

Lance immediately looked pissed, "Who?! I'll fight them if need be! Just tell me when and where and show them that-!"

"Lance- wait no! Its not... It's somebody you know, but I can't say why or how they hurt me. Listen, it was... Indirect, so it's not like they even know." Keith was about to step away when Lance grabbed his hand, and looked down at his feet.

They were both silent for what felt like eons. They could hear the music muffled by the walls of the Castle, along with slightest scattered mummers of the people inside. Keith all of a sudden put all of his focus on Lance's hand. It was warm while he loosely held Keith's fingers, and his hand was... Almost shaking, like it was scared of something.

"Keith... Im going to need you to be honest with me, okay?"

Keith looked down, and nodded lightly.

Lance looked at their hands, and decided to bring up his other hand so that both of his hands were holding one of Keith's.

"Was... it me?", Lance asked in a voice so small only Keith could hear it.

Keith didn't know how to answer, a part of him wanted to reject that statement immediately and tell him that it wasn't his fault. But... In a sick, twisted way, it was Lance who hurt him. The thought of rejection clouded Keith mind so badly that he just accepted it as reality. Rejection became Keith's reality without him ever actually taking a chance. It hurt, a lot, and there was not much he could do about it.

"Keith?" Lance says, slowly looking up to meet Keith's eyes. Keith started, and god he could stare for hours if he could, but he can't. Keith slips his hand out of Lance's, and manages to pull a sad smile on his face.

"Yes and no. The thought of you hurts, but only because I made it hurt," Keith turned slightly, facing the front entrance and started to walk slowly, "Im sorry Lance... You deserve better than me. I need to leave. It was nice se-" before Keith could finish, he turned to see Lance's face had tear streaks painted onto his freckles. Keith instantly panicked.

"I-I didn't know you-you h-hated me that much. Im sorry... I should have known. I'm sorry for whatever I-I did to make you h-hate me so-", Lance broke off into more of a light sob, and started to fall onto his knees.

Keith fucked up, he knows he did, he has to fix it, but how can he tell Lance that he-

Keith needed to stop being selfish.

Before Lance could fall over, Keith ran towards him and caught Lance in his arms. Lance sobbed softly and started hiccuping, "I-Im sorry, I wanted to help but I ended up being the problem! I-Im s-so sorry!"

Keith felt his heart break into pieces, everything that he promised to Lance in his mind felt broken and like a lie. He had to say something, anything, just to prove to Lance that he didn't hate him.

"I love you!"

Well... He guessed that was something. But it was the wrong something. Lance's sobs stopped to heavy breaths as he met Keith eye to eye. This is it... This is where I fucked up! Keith lectured to himself. He didn't need to tell Lance, he wanted to tell him, but he knew the consequences. He wanted to run and hide, but he was currently sitting on the floor with the boy of his heart half draped over his lap. It was kinda hard to move.

Lance stared at him, saying nothing and unmoving. Even though Keith was panicking at the moment, he couldn’t stop his mouth moving and started spewing words against his will.

“I don’t hate you Lance, I never did and I never will. Sure you annoyed me at first but that was then and this is now. Lance... you were there for me when those who should have weren’t. When Shiro disappeared, again, I thought no one would be on my side or support me, I thought he was the only one who had my back. I was about to, not only give up, but not even consider taking up a position as the leader. But then... you not only believed in me and made me see reason, but you also showed that you and the rest of the team have my back.

“After that, I couldn’t stop thinking about you. Thinking about how you make me feel and what you do for me, I was falling for you...”, Keith stopped to take a breath, he looked at Lance’s expression to see if any features of disgust had arrived, but surprisingly, they haven’t.

Keith realized he went too far... He just told Lance that he was in love with him and now he is going to hate him and never talk to him again or- "And... What about now?", Lance asked, disturbing Keith's train of thought.

"What?", Keith asked, his voice wavering.

"You said you were, falling for me... How do you feel now?"

Keith was hesitant, but he didn't want to deprive Lance of an answer. Keith's heart was telling him to just get up and run away, his body shook in anticipation of what the next few minutes could mean for his and Lance’s relationship. He wanted to dig a hole into the floor beneath him and bury himself alive, his heart was fighting against his chest.

Keith’s heart was about to implode when he decided to once again look at Lance. And at that moment, he realized something. He stared into Lance’s blue eyes and saw a sense of hope swim in his irises. Lance stayed close to his body, only a few inches of room between them and if they were to move any closer there would be no room to breath. Lance’s hair looked almost messy, probably from when he collapsed on the floor. He had a look on his face that was... so soft and free looking. No tension, no fear, nothing that indicated that Lance would hate him.

Keith, in that moment realized, that no matter what answer he would give, Lance would never hate him for it. Maybe things would get awkward, maybe there would be some tension; but no matter what, Lance would still love him as, at the very least, a friend.

Keith took a deep breath, and looked at Lance while smiling softly, noticing the dust of pink on his cheeks, and spoke only a few words.

“I still am”

THAT’S RIGHT BITCH!!!! MAKE UP YOUR OWN ENDING!! MAKE A FLUFF, MAKE ANGST, DO WHAT EVER YOU WANT!!!!

So, I guess now is the time to give my overall thoughts on VLD. Let me start by saying I don’t ‘completely’ hate season 8. There were good parts of the season, just like there were bad parts. I’m going to talk about ships, characters, and some general thoughts on the show.

Just to be clear in advance I’m not a fan of Allurance. I will have a section on the ship so you’ve been warned. Also I am a multishipper so there will be many ships.The rest is under a readmore.

Okay, so starting with Allurance cause it’s the most improtant canon wise. I don’t ship it, and the show won’t make me. I do not think these two would have ever truly been good for each other. They were to different. However I must comend the show for having a couple main characters get together and showing a relationship before the last episode. This is very rare in kids shows. I guess I just wish it was a couple with better chemistry.

Next lets talk about Adashi/shadam/canon Shiro thing. I get that they killed Adam, but I wish we had a named partner for Shiro. Who was that guy, why did Shiro like him, and why don’t we know him? We should know the person Shiro got together with, at least by name. Maybe it’s Kinkade, but he looks to old.

Now, none canon ships. Klance still feels like it it would have been a good ship if given the chance. These two actually have good chemistry if I’m honest. That’s why this ship took off like it did. Though I’ll get hate for it Sheith deserves the same recognition. Actual good chemistry between them. Honestly Plance belongs in the same place. Characters who have good chemistry and may have worked better. Honestly of all the VLD ships I’ve seen I’ve liked more than Allurance. Including Heith ans Jaith.

Moving on from shipping there are things to talk about with charaters. All of the main characters were well developed until the last episode. Of course that messed up one of them, so let’s talk.

Turning Lance into an Altean doesn’t work for his character. He’s from Earth, Earth is incredibly important to him. He was the most homesick of all the paladins and of all of them it was most important he found his way home to Earth. Taking that away is destroying a huge part of his character. Are we just supposed to replace all that with him being homesick for Altea? Cause I can’t.

Next let’s talk about something better. Keith’s ending was really good. He doesn’t want to be a diplomat but he’s living with a family now. Allura grew massively throughout the show and her story led up perfectly to her ending. Shiro’s is great to, and Hunk’s. So many of the endings were good and perfect for the characters. Not sure why Lance got short staffed like that, but it will forever disappoint me.

Okay, a few general thoughts. Maybe this show needed fewer episodes. It started so strong, the first seasons were undoubtedly the best and later they started to slip. I’ve seen people saying the writers ruined Voltron for generations and that’s just not true. Voltron will be back, there will be another reboot one day, and I would be more than happy to see it take insperation from VLD. 

I loved so many episodes of this show. It was fun from start to finish even if the ending wasn’t as strong. There are disappointments, but it was fun to watch. The charaters could be interesting and the story was over all interesting. 

Honestly I find Season 7 to have been the weakest. They talked about how they wanted to show what war was, but it was far from realistic. I hated the commander lady in this season. People wouldn’t have wanted to follow that woman, not after all her missteps leading up to and during the Galra invasion. All she did was make the worst possible choice in all but one situation. If the whole Earth had known about the danger, they could have defended more than one base. If she hadn’t gone to the Galra they could have saved the Earth much easier. She was insufferably stupid and they keep pushing it on me that I should feel for the fact her stupidity got her killed (yes she gave her life to save the paladins, but they wouldn’t have been there if not for her). This was the only character I had no intrest in.
