What’s your most hated fandom characterization for each of the main 7?
hoo boy am i glad you asked. although i’m gonna be real, my issue is less with fandom characterization, because you do you i don’t give a shit, and more with how people go batty if you personally are not a fan of fanon characterizations.
like, lemme be obvious and talk about my biggest example. i am a brown eyed lance truther. we know this. the amount of weirdo comments, weirdo DMs, and weirdo asks i get is atrocious. i post a lot of them bc they’re so stupid they’re funny but the amount of people per week that tell me to kill myself is lowkey wild. the amount of people that love to say some variation of “i liked your fic but you ruined it by making lances eyes brown! his eyes are blue! and i’ve checked other brown eyed truther’s fics — either they delete their comments better than me, or they do not get the same thing. idk what the deal is lol.
i will concede to the point that i’m a contrarian and annoying about it, but a list of the following non-fanon headcanons/characterizations i hold that have been commented on in some derisive way:
- bitchy hunk (lol)
- non “cinnamon roll too pure and baby and good for this world” hunk*
- allura is a good character (🤡)**
- allura is a sweetheart
- allura is not a drill sergeant
- kuron was a good iteration of shiro
- red paladin lance/black paladin keith/blue paladin allura
- retired shiro
- pidge is not cruel
- pidge is not an infant and can handle things a regular 14-15 year old can handle
- small details are irrelevant (think lances family, exact prekerb details, etc)
- keith gyeong and lance sanchez
- fucking brown eyed lance. i’m saying it again
- tall keith
- non omega keith***
- readmores
- autistic lance
- adhd keith
- non asshole/cruel keith
- comphetting gay lance****
- shallura
- bi shiro, demi keith, essentially any sexuality headcanon that isn’t mainstream
- hunk who isn’t food obsessed
- that’s about it
*stop infantilising hunk
**the allura hate is ridiculous and largely rooted in anti-Blackness. it should not be a fight to say that she had a reason to feel betrayed by keith’s heritage, that she did not “get in the way” of klance, that her death was stupid and ridiculous, that she is often pushed over in favour of klance (not as in she’s less popular, but that her/her death are used as a plot device to further klance), and that she is as interesting, nuanced, and multifaceted as the rest of them.
***people, inevitably, feminize characters in fandoms (largely because many people in fandom are young women, i know i feminize characters simply bc i’m making them like me and i’m feminine lol), and my issue is that people (in the general sense, not everybody) love to feminize keith and then get really mad if anyone else is feminized. this is not about fem or trans woman keith btw. this is about people omega-ifying him and then losing their MINDS if i don’t share that headcanon.
****i literally only wrote this once and then never again because people lost their minds. but as much as i love bi lance, i think it’s interesting that usually, when we see “boy crazy” or “girl crazy” characters, especially if they have a lot of chemistry or homoerotic tension with a same-gender character, people are like oh ya that’s comphetting. that character is desperately trying to outrun the gay thoughts. but with lance, who was definitely girl crazy and cared more about having a girlfriend than actually dating and falling in love (think “mrs blue lion” — he didn’t give a fuck about who he was marrying, so long that it was a girl), calling him gay will have people saying you’re erasing bisexuality. as if he was not fucking straight in the show. so.
sorry this is so bitter and ranty lol. been in a mood
#and have been wanting to complain about this specifically for months#so thank u for that#longpost#vld headcanons#rant#ask

Voltron HC’s for my Humans Are Weird Lance-Centric Story
Lance became immune to most poisons because he wanted to be like Westley in The Princess Bride
Lance has worn heels, dresses, makeup, extensions, etc, multiple times His sisters and brothers helped him learn the skills
Lance has learned how to fix engines, along with other basic/simple engineering skills, because of his brother Marco
Lance is an amazing chemist and knows how to make an impromptu bomb with sweat, a bobby pin and something made of glass, because of his sister-in-law Bella
Lance speaks practically every language to communicate with his friends Lance can cook and bake relatively well because he helped his mother and grandmothers cook
Lance may not be Pidge’s level, but he is a white hat hacker who made money after being hired by multiple governments to make sure they weren’t vulnerable because his brother-in-law Theo dared he couldn’t
Lance knows how macgyver basically anything because of the many things he had happen with his cousins and siblings
Lance can use bows, throwing knives, darts, blowguns, and guns really well, as well as a sling and has a throwing arm of incredibly accuracy because of his father encouraging it (and a boomerang to honor his favorite character Sokka)
Lance knows juego de mani and limalama because Veronica told him to learn to protect himself without weapons and he wanted to make her proud
Lance can sew, knit, crochet, etc, because he wanted to help his mother and grandmothers and sisters
Lance is a disguise pro because of his sisters
Lance is amazing at acting and lie detecting because of his younger relatives and siblings
Lance can dance in practically every way, revealed through pole dancing and aerial silks, and Lance is so flexible Hunk insists he has no bones, all because he played Twister and limbo and refused to lose - and then took gymnastics and dancing classes when his aunt found out and paid
Lance has multiple service animals because his mind doesn’t work like others and he has various needs - each animal does something different
He had a boa constrictor for his anxiety, a parrot to tell him when he accidentally switched languages, a goose to make sure no one hurt his feelings (accidental or purposeful), and a small snake that they couldn’t identify that helps him focus
Therefore, Lance handles all animals extremely well and they automatically love him - several times, he comes back to the Castle with new animals that they can’t get rid of and have to take along
Lance has run and won three marathons so his older brother Phillipe would be motivated to exercise
Lance can swim, climb, and jump better than most people, including Pidge, Hunk, and Keith. He can only swim and jump better than Shiro - they’re matched for climbing, unless they’re in trees, in which Lance wins, because of siblings and relatives
Lance can eat Carolina Reapers without crying because of bets
Lance can sing and knows many styles, including opera - his voice is incredibly strong, and he is told to not sing opera unless there is something protecting other species from the volume - his family would sing together and he took lessons after his uncle started crying at his ‘angelic voice’
Lance is the best diplomat because he understands people and how to get them to loosen up and have fun, which causes them to accept his ‘pack-bonding’ and want to be his ally/friend - because everyone back home was family
Lance can storytell with the best of them because of his grandparents telling their own stories and him mimicking them as he told them about his day
Lance once broke his leg, sprained his wrist, dislocated his shoulder, and scraped himself up really badly because he fell down a steep hill on an island - a few friendly sharks and dolphins came together to help him make it back to home (Hunk’s home because he was visiting)
Caffeine does nothing to Lance - he can consume a gallon of pure espresso without dying or so much as twitching, and he won’t be affected at all. He cannot be addicted, and it’s because his uncle would give him coffee and soda as a little baby when his parents weren’t looking, but he came over semi-irregularly due to travel
Lance cannot get hungover and it takes a whole lot of alcohol to make him drunk. He’s gone to several open clubs, and gotten many drinks bought for him both normally and in a dress and heels - his family had competitions often and he participated from fifteen onwards and somehow was again immune for the most part
Lance can eat a whole pineapple on his own (it was a dare that he worked up to) Lance can whisper at many different volumes and in many ways. He can also throw off his voice. Hide-and-seek tag was fun, especially in the dark where you could freak out whoever was it
Lance can flip knives and screwdrivers and such. He can also throw simple objects with deadly accuracy (pencils) because his brother came out as gay and was bullied, so he learned to flip knives and transferred that to school items, which then transferred to bullies finding their backpacks pinned by a colored pencil that was thrown nearly hitting their necks.
Lance can make a fire easily due to bonfires on the beach. He has no fear for it, and knows minor blacksmithing because him and Veronica liked to make things out of stuff they found on the shore.
Lance has cute hiccups and sneezes, like a little kitten, but only Hunk knows. Whenever someone sneezes or hiccups, Hunk gives Lance a look, waiting for the moment when the cuteness comes. It hasn’t… yet
Lance can do a million what if’s and figure out deep theories for each because his family got bored easily
Lance can mimic practically anything due to a combo of games with siblings and survival skills - and learning to screech in his sister’s ear
Lance can make up a million different swears because they weren’t allowed to cuss around the younger kids. He knows how to come up with the so fast that Pidge wonders if it’s another language for him
Lance is the most protective - Hunk is the only one who’s truly seen what he looks like in a rage (the Galra see - and their ship goes down before they can tell anyone - thank you Black Lion) - Lance will never lose someone in a crowd, and no one can kidnap someone around him - he spent years herding kids in crowded areas and saving them from creeps. He will never lose someone.
Lance is so empathic that he befriends several Galra teams and those eventually join the Blades - he watched his younger relatives fall down and had to kiss lots of boo-boos
He had so many female relatives, Lance knows how to handle periods better than some girls
Lance goes calm when scared - he had to handle whatever danger there was before it could hurt or affect his family - he supercalculates and becomes a supersoldier/assassin
Lance has the best intuition and every human learns this - he knows when something is low quality, when something or someone cannot be trusted, when something is wrong, etc. - Hunk vouches the first time when it’s just humans, and the second time (outside of a battle or something), the Alteans are forced to listen when the four other humans insist Lance should be trusted - it helped him avoid danger
Lance handles stress so well, he barely feels it. His adrenaline is completely on beck and call. He never told anyone but his family because no one else he knows of has achieved a mental switch to the adrenaline rush. He can use hysterical strength on command, but he’s only done it once before. He just goes as calm as when scared if he gets too stressed or if everyone else is too stressed
Lance is the best at grooming - thank you sisters
Hunk and Lance have tattoos and pierced ears (Hunk has a large traditional tattoo on his back); Lance has several tattoos on his center back (flowers and skulls and leaves) with some spreading outwards (vines with more flowers and stuff growing out) and has band tattoos on his shins and biceps; Lance has many piercings in his ears that no one notices unless he’s wearing earrings - his siblings took him to get the tattoos and piercings, and his mother took him to get the first piercings and his father the first tattoo (a small flower on his shoulder blade)
Lance is best at child games like tag and hidenseek because of his family Sometimes, Lance speaks in such complex slang and metaphors that even Hunk barely understands him because he and his siblings and cousins wanted to speak to each other (gossip) without eavesdroppers
Lance cannot control his curiosity well because he had to explore things for and with his family and knew he could handle the situations if they went wrong
Lance loves cute things because of pets and nieces and nephews
Lance learned to talk backwards and can go silent for a long time without losing his voice because of dares
Lance has a high pain tolerance even if he hasn’t been hurt in a long time and it’s helped him (sharks and dolphin incident, saving Coran, just contributing to fight and help his family and friends even in pain) - however, he will likely be extremely dreamy when that happens
ONE DAY: Pidge makes a teleporter and manages to get a friend back on Earth to set up another. She also gets communications up.
Shiro talks with Adam (this is Adashi and Alluratt), and gets sent some official medals to show he’s a General because of all he’s done and been through.
Hunk’s mothers and sisters send him homegrown ingredients and some better tools.
Pidge’s mother spends half the time telling Sam, Matt, and Pidge off for leaving and the other half asking if they’re okay and then sends them each a care package.
Keith also talks with Adam and gets sent a knife “to remind you of home”.
Lance’s family takes an hour just introducing themselves to Keith (who Lance insists stays with since he said he didn’t have family - “you can share mine then”) and then spends a good many more telling about what happened; they send over a bunch of shoes and clothes and sewing/knitting supplies and chemistry supplies and etc so he won’t get bored and then Veronica asks him if he can ask Pidge if the teleporter can do it with living things.
She says it can, but don’t have anyone come because of the danger - Veronica sends Lance’s service animals and they all missed him so much and instantly like the team.
Maverick is the goose (*tell dad that joke with a straight face*)
Princey is the boa constrictor
Alexander is the parrot
Cleopatra is the unidentifiable snake
Maverick tries to peck Keith whenever he makes a rude comment on accident, so Keith starts learning what’s hurtful and how to rephrase his thoughts so they’re not as hurtful but still honest.
Princey loves Hunk and tries to hug everyone.
Alex imitates Coran’s voice and uses that from then on unless Coran is around then he’ll bark like a dog once to alert Lance that it’s the real deal - Alex knows that helping Lance is important and Coran helps Lance so using Coran’s voice helps a lot.
Pidge wants to know what Cleo is, but Cleo doesn’t leave Lance’s side unless necessary because he ‘disappeared’ for the animals.
The other collected animal assortment learn how to help Lance from his service animals and soon he almost always (except battle) has at least three other creatures besides his service ones following him and helping.
Lance took drama class and was in the play put on by the class, but worked backstage as stage manager (was on the floor and used his intuition for lights and sound and stuff)
For the drama club play - he was the lead almost every time no matter how many times he suggested someone else might be better. The one time he wasn’t, he was the love interest (he was Mais Merian instead of Robin Hood)
He always got special recognition when backstage and that time as the interest despite him nominating literally everyone else
Lance has met Mothman - that’s all he tells Keith and co, but he used to get together every Saturday night for stargazing with Mothman and a lovely sasquatch, and they kept in touch when he left for the Garrison; Veronica helped them and let the cryptids know that Lance was okay after communicating with the Paladins.
Mothman was named Emilio by Lance and nicknamed Em. The sasquatch was named Alli.
Lance has been “adopted” by packs of wild animals several times and not always packs. He once was pushed by a bully over the edge of the crocodile enclosure at a zoo (bully just pushed, didn’t mean to make him go over) on a school field trip when he was twelve. They couldn’t get the crocs to give him back til his abuelita came over with a chancla and scolded them until they gave the boy back.
He was allowed back into the zoo for free so long as he helped when the animals were cranky or needing shots because they were always calm around him.
He befriended every animal.
Rosa the gorilla was a lovely little lady who would sing with him and she would start singing the moment she heard/saw him. They had a special song just for the two of them to sing.
Lance went viral, but not many recognize the twelve year old as him, especially because people stopped posting when it became clear he wasn’t going to stop and they got used to it.
Keith remembers the hippo video and wishes he could’ve joined that boy. When it is eventually revealed that Lance is the Animal Tamer, he promises to get Keith his own hippo (his uncle bought the zoo when it started to close down a few years back -same people work there, just different ownership. Lance knows his uncle won’t mind)
Keith is ecstatic and refuses to believe Lance is lying, and Shiro and Pidge worry and are shocked. Hunk knew.
Lance learned to hang upside down like a bat for long periods of time because his family had a huge vacation house with rafters but the house got crowded since everyone would come and Lance would stay in the rafters with Veronica to provide more room and both became known as the Bat Twins.
Lance uses this to scare the Blades by telling Keith to tell Kolivan about vampires and then hanging from the vents and hissing at people while wearing black and dark red and a cape that he made.
He also has fake fangs and red contacts so no one recognized him but the humans and now everyone is on the lookout for the vampire in the vents.
Keith and Shiro never leave the team or disappear. The Blades approach the Paladins seeking an alliance.
Hunk and Lance were pen pals at three because of Lance’s aunt who knows one of Hunk’s moms, and they met at five when the aunt brought him back.
He went every year for both short and long trips, and the island Hunk lived on accepted Lance into the community, so now he has traditional tattoos on his lower back and across his shoulders that meld with his previous tattoos easily.
He got the lower back one when he was thirteen and the shoulders when he was fourteen. The bands are a combo of Cuban and Samoan culture in their styling.
Lance had worked on some of his relatives’ farm after school since he was seven. He knows how to milk a cow, herd flocks, lasso (probably lassos a thief at some point), hogtie, farm (plants), make animal calls and whistles, get chickens to obey, ride a horse and a bull, use a scythe like a pro (and terrify Pidge and Shiro on their makeshift Halloween while Keith attempts to figure out how a cryptid, a quiznacking GRIM REAPER, got aboard. Hunk just stands back to watch the chaos), bargain/barter like a pro, withstand extremely strong winds and other storm conditions without falling over (he can walk, make himself heard, and even run and jump and climb like normal), tell when something is sick or ready to be harvested/milked, tend to many animals, speak in farmer slang, and has memorized the planting requirements for many crops.
Lance can stand off in a growl/roaring match (baring teeth and trying to seem bigger) against bears, Alli the sasquatch, wolves, and several Galra soldiers. He came across many Earth predators and knew that his logical mind could overcome his primal instincts that would make him give in to a wild animal.
Therefore, whenever Lance and co happened on one and needed to scare it off, he would do so by not giving in in the slightest, which eventually broke the other, especially since it was always obvious he was protecting his family.
If it was two ‘mamas’ (Lance is ‘mama’), then both seemed to feel it and would stand down and head their separate ways.
The Galra found out when Lance stood off against a commander in a ground base and got the enemy to give in. Once the commander was submissive, the others gave in and the base was converted (secretly) to the Blades.
After all, Lance didn’t try to hurt them, simply continued on his way. And he was heard getting the others to not destroy the base because “these soldiers aren’t with the Empire. At least, not because they want to be. They’re with the Empire because it’s all they know. Let’s leave them be now.”
The Blades found out as a whole when a Blade tried to tell Keith off of going on a small reconnaissance mission because he was too small.
Lance came to the defense, and unbeknownst to the Paladins, Lance was then on known as the Caretaker of the group, a type of alpha that doesn’t lead, but is very protective of their pack and is willing to do whatever necessary to protect them. Shiro is the alpha, but even he will give in to the Caretaker if faced off with the alpha side of it.
Lance then finds himself taking less fire during battle, which helped him focus better on protecting his team, because the word got out and the Galra don’t attack Caretakers or kits because they’re the most important. Together they are the future.
Lance is both a kit and a Caretaker, attempting to protect his fellow kits, and that means that they are very hesitant to attack. They have to rethink strategies to avoid lethal offenses due to Lance’s willingness to take the hits and the fact that they are all kits.
There is one adult in their group and it’s a crazy middle-aged Altean.
Kolivan sees the Caretaker up close and personal when he ‘loses’ Keith. Before Lance can do more than growl and prepare to shout and cuss out the Blade for losing his teammate, Keith comes busting out of the vents spouting off about how he was training and then he was asked to go find the vampire and even though he knows the truth it was too good an opportunity, and then he thinks the Blades lost track of him and then he heard the Paladins boarding and it wasn’t Kolivan’s fault, it was an accident.
Lance immediately backs off and tells Keith to use the Castle’s training room. He seriously just got back from the reconnaissance mission, take a break.
Lance can handle many different temperatures because of the weather back home and his siblings often taking him out camping.
Back home, everyone was family to Lance. On Hunk’s island home, everyone around them was family or friends.
Lance and Hunk can walk, talk, sing, dance, and overall move in unison to the point where they seem telepathic. They can do so for a long time.
Their record is three days, where they woke up and went to sleep at the same time and helped each other make food and overall astounded their fellow Garrison cadets. Pidge was there and can vouch that it was terrifying.
Lance will always rescue someone in need. It gains them many allies from Galra, Empire supporters who only support it because it’s all they know, pirates, fauna, some flora, a few allies who were going to discuss the alliance until Lance helped a kid up or saved an animal without any incentive. They all saw a caring nature in a vicious predator and decided that was the perfect ally.
Lance celebrates Hanukkah, Christmas, Días Des Les Muertos (check spelling), a bunch of other holidays and a lot of birthdays because of his large family. He keeps it up in space by either putting up decorations in a few rooms (sometimes rooms that no one visits so they won’t be taken down) or going around saying something like “Happy Marco’s birthday!”
Lance has an incredible sense of smell because of diapers, cooking, identifying nature and other things so he can tell what is in something rather easily and can even track down stronger smelling things with relative ease.
Lance is the flower crown making champ and can make all sorts of styles since his nieces and nephews always wanted them
Lance and Hunk have the worst dark humor and it’s a major surprise, but it comes from being exposed to other people a lot and Lance had social media.
His Instagram is of animals and nature, his Twitter is of weather and the beach and more nature, his Facebook is his crafts and art and occasionally some songs (just audio clips and you can’t really identify him with his voice, he even did opera once), Reddit has theories and he’s incredibly respected for his ideas and theories especially because it’s just for fun and he says that, Tumblr is random stuff and everyone loves him (both the fandoms and the hipsters).
None of his accounts have his face or information, so he’s completely anonymous. Hunk learned from Lance.
Lance has wonderful rhythm because he had to get thirty kids to sing Cotton Eye Joe and do the dances at the same time
Lance never took ice skating lessons but is really good and has had several people offer to teach him or ask him to join an event/team

Based on that one thing
...
Lance was nearly cracking up and Pidge was about to follow suit. When they both got hired for office work at Galaxy Garrison, they'd not said they were dating. They hadn't wanted accusations of being unprofessional at work.
It... didn't exactly "backfire." But it did have an interesting effect on the interactions that took place in the weeks following.
Their coworkers thought they made a good couple, which Lance thought was good. Because they'd been saying for over three years now. Of course, as funny as all this was, it led to their coworkers trying to set them up.
Which was hilarious in its own way, Lance decided, and way better than the awkwardness of someone else trying to flirt with them.
"No, we don't have any policies against interoffice dating." Allura, their boss, was talking rather loudly to Keith by the water fountain; but both of them were clearly looking at Lance who was currently at Pidge's cubicle talking about some of the latest report data from their latest engine model.
Lance waved, feigning obliviousness, and reveled in their loud eye rolls.
"–in that case, I'll be sure to get the mechanics to tighten the throttle. We don't want any fluctuation of thrust."
"We sure don't." Lance agreed, bringing his attention back to his girlfriend. "Thanks. And watch out for Allura, she's heading this way."
Pidge huffed and rolled her eyes, but had to fight a grin. Lance denied his urge to pat her head as he left. The others had plenty of ammo already, and he was enjoying the attention.
Typical Lance, Pidge thought, basking in the spotlight that was the office's matchmaking mischief.
"Sooo, what were you and Lance talking about over here? You seemed pretty chummy." Allura leaned against the wall of her cubicle casually, smiling at Pidge.
"He was just giving me the latest report on the Leo Line."
Allura's smile dimmed, but Pidge didn't see it since she kept her eyes glued to her screen. "Oh? That's nice. Any big news?"
"Just some tweaks for the throttle. What about you and Keith?"
"Ah, you know. Just some office gossip. Like, you know, I heard Lance is single."
Pidge bit her cheek, struggling to fight a smile. She may not completely share Lance's glee, but she did have a mischievous streak a mile wide. "Is that right? That's weird. Could've sworn he was taken."
Allura balked at the line. Of course, she'd made up the bit to encourage Pidge. "W-what? Really?"
"I thought so, anyway. But you know I'm not really one for gossip. It's weird if he is single, though." A chuckle escaped her lips as Allura's shoulders lost a bit of tension.
"Weird, huh? Why's that. Because he's so attractive?"
No, Pidge thought with a hidden smirk, because I wasn't aware we'd broken up. She wanted to cackle, but instead gave a noncommittal shrug. "You thinking of asking him out?"
"Oh, no. I was thinking you should, actually."
"Me?" Pidge finally saved her updated document and closed the program, before turning to fully attend her boss. "Why's that?"
"Oh, you know. You two just seem to have good chemistry."
Pidge nodded. She thought so too. "Why are you so invested in this anyway?"
"Oh... you know me..." Allura smiled prettily. "I live for the drama."
Allura eventually gave up once she saw she was getting nowhere with Pidge. The bosswoman sighed and trudged over to the breakroom kitchenette, where Hunk was making some kind of stir-fry.
"Another bust?" The large man asked knowingly, seeing Allura's downtrodden face as she slumped into a chair. "Don't worry. I have a plan already set in motion."
"I hope it's better than Coran's mistletoe scheme."
"Hey it probably would've worked if he'd waited until Christmas." Hunk chuckled as he poured some bright green seasoning Allura didn't recognize. Then he pulled out a trinket from his pocket with one hand while the other continued to stir, "But no, I took the starter out of Pidge's car. I'm gonna get Lance to give her a ride home." He grinned.
Allura's face paled, "Hunk! You could get in serious trouble if Pidge finds out!"
"Relax. I'll work overtime today, and offer to look at it for Pidge before I leave. Then I'll just put it back–" he tossed it up and maneuvered his pocket to catch it neatly, "–and she'll be none the wiser. The perfect crime."
"I don't know, Hunk. You may have taken it too far."
"Relax, what's the worst that could happen?"
Hunk continued to reassure her regularly until she finally went back to work. Then he enjoyed his stir-fry until his own break was over.
His plan worked perfectly, he might add. Pidge didn't even stop to question what had happened, because Lance had been there with his car.
It had worked so well, Hunk had almost forgotten to offer, "Hey, I still have some stuff to get done, but I can look at it for you before I leave?"
"Really?" Pidge slumped, "Thanks, Hunk. You're the best mechanic I know, if you could fix it that'd be great!"
"Sure thing. Just do me one favor?"
"Yeah? Whatcha need?" Pidge looked expectantly as she slung her bag over her shoulder.
Hunk subtly pointed at Lance, who was waiting patiently outside, "Don't waste this opportunity."
Pidge rolled her eyes, "Yeah. Sure."
"I'm serious! Get some!"
"Hunk!"
She would, but they didn't need to know that.
A few minutes later, when she and Lance were driving to their apartment, she finally asked, "So when are we gonna tell 'em?"
"When it's funniest." They shared a grin.

vld season 8 [SPOILERS]
Okay, so these are my thoughts on voltron season eight and a little bit on voltron in general. I’m not here to hate on canon, or the voice actors, or the writers, or hate on anyone, really; they’re just my opinions. If you haven’t seen season 8 or don’t want spoilers or don’t want to read my opinions, stop here.
I’m going to split my thoughts into sections, so here goes. Sorry this isn’t lok themed, I promise I’m still writing things for lok, but I guess I’ll be writing things for other fandoms now as well; my brain can be kind of erratic, so what I’m writing depends on what I’ve been doing recently.
Also, if you have different opinions or thoughts or anything you want to ask about my opinions on Voltron, feel free to send me an ask.
Characters
Hunk - Honestly, I thought he was pretty cool. I liked his ending mostly, and how he got to continue to do the things he loves while spreading peace and promoting cooperation between people and using his cooking to accent that. I also don’t have any particular headcanons or anything for him as of right now, but maybe in the future.
Pidge/Katie Holt - I didn’t have any problems with Pidge’s ending either, I actually kinda liked it, and headcanons... she definitely pursues a career in a STEM field, and I think she goes on to do super cool science things I wouldn’t understand.
Shiro - I didn’t hate his ending as well, I do wish they hadn’t killed Adam though, so maybe I’ll pretend he’s alive somewhere. I dunno. I’m really glad they made him happy, and let him finally find peace. I kinda have a headcanon that he’ll run a space orphanage or something that works with the Blade of Marmora humanitarian relief thing or whatever they are now. I hope he gets to take all the naps he needs.
Keith - I also liked his ending a fair amount, I think it’s cool that he’ll get to help people and I think that it’s in alignment with his character arc from what I can tell. He went from suffering to helping make sure no one else does, and that can a difficult jump to make, from what I understand.
Lance - Okay, so this is a hot topic. Honestly, I don’t agree with him being a farmer forever; I think at some point he’s going to start to heal and grow again and that he’ll start travelling the galaxy. Maybe he’ll continue to teach about Allura, but in different places and in different ways, all across the galaxy, like I said. Maybe, at some point, he’ll discover that happiness doesn’t have to be something to remember, but that it can be something to discover once again, even if it’s different then before. At some point, he’s going to continue to grow and spread light and love and maybe even find his own.
He could have definitely had more character development in the show, instead of them spending the last season focusing on changes due to romance rather than other forces (or even the effects those romantic feelings had on him after could have been handled better). That’s why, in case this wasn’t clear the first time I said it, I think that he’s going to go around the galaxy, maybe even with Keith and the Blades, to teach not only about Allura but about other heroes, about missions he’s been on and the things he’s learned from war. I don’t think he’s going to be a farmer forever, but I think that some time to rest before he gathers the courage to start growing as a person again will help him/is necessary.
Allura - Okay, I’m going to say right off the bat that I don’t think she should have died. I do like that she was designed as a strong, brave character who makes her own decisions. Yeah, I really don’t like that she died and I don’t think she should have, but she did, so yeah. I think that she was smart enough to find another solution and that her death was unnecessary, like I’ve said, but I respect that her sacrifice was on par with her character/character traits/personal values. I’ve got some other things to say in a minute, but we’ll get to that.
As a group, after the show ended - I definitely think they saw each other more than once a year, and that they all still treated each other like the family they claimed to be during battles. Bonds made in war are hard to break, and theirs is most certainly unbreakable. They’ll be a team for their lifetime, even if their jobs take them to different places for a time.
Ships
Okay, so this is also a hot topic from what I can tell. I’ve gotta say I don’t a) ship Pidge with anyone and b) I’m not here to hate on any ships unless they’re legitimately abusive or wrong in the manner of, y’know, pedophilia and such.
Allurance - I don’t hate this ship, and I don’t hate it being canon. I don’t actively ship it and I don’t think that, even if Allura had lived, they would have been endgame anyway. I do disagree with people who say that they don’t have any chemistry at all, because I think they have at least some. I definitely don’t ship it as an endgame ship, but I think they were/could’ve been great friends. I do feel like it was a little forced in the beginning, and I feel like it sends a slightly negative message about men being overly persistent after a woman says no and negates Allura’s individual strength a little bit. I do think that if it had been done slightly different, it would have seemed less like Allura was guilt-tripped or practically coerced into the relationship and could have shown that people don’t need a significant other to make them whole because people are their own, whole person; it could have shown that bonds between people make two whole people stronger, in a sense, with both people respecting that the other person is their own person and makes their own choices/has their own opinions. (As long as those opinions aren’t harmful to the other person or to other people.)
Klance - Okay, so if you couldn’t tell, I ship klance. I personally think they have a lot of chemistry, especially in some scenes, and I think that (in accordance with my Lance headcanon) that they’ll eventually start working together in humanitarian relief efforts/teaching trips and either end up together or even just be friends. I think they have a great relationship either way, and that they support each other really well; Lance being Keith’s impulse control guy and Keith being Lance’s confidence. Like I said, they definitely have great chemistry but as long as they end up working together some way and benefit each other, I’m good if they stay friends.
Shay and Hunk - Is there a ship name for this? I haven’t seen one, but I might’ve missed it. Anyway, I think their relationship is pretty sweet and I don’t ship it aggressively but I really do think they’re cute.
Shiro and Curtis - I think they’re cute as well, I’m glad Shiro’s happy and hopefully he gets lots of time to rest while still helping others. I do miss Adam and I’m sad he’s dead; I’m also cool with a ship with Shiro in a relationship with both of them or all three of them in a relationship with each other. I’m sad we didn’t get to see Curtis and Shiro interact with each other before the wedding, but again I’m trying not to be salty even though I don’t like that we never got to see a dynamic between the two.
The Ending
Okay, I’m a little confused on what happened at the end. I’m pretty sure that the lions are circling the planet, minus the blue lion which is not, but I can’t tell. It is a little bittersweet to me that they don’t still pilot the lions, but I understand that things have to come to an end for other things to take place. Still bittersweet though.
Overall
Overall, I’ve gotta say I didn’t hate it. There were a few things I would have preferred to be canon (like klance or better character development for some characters) or preferred not to be canon (Allura dying) but I came in with low expectations so it kept me fairly entertained. Like I said, not here to hate on anything just my opinions.
So that’s all I can think of right now, I might talk about my thoughts on Lotor later, maybe on lotor x allura as well, but I’m running out of time so that’s all for today. Also, sorry for the long post.

Beefs I have with Voltron s8
Allurance:
-Disregarding Allura’s connection to Coran so that Lance can come out as a better option. Allura does have a family, it’s Coran, it seems the earth air gave her amnesia or something, or maybe the writers did, idk… I swear all I could think of during Lance’s “great” speech during their date was “what about Coran?”
-Lance saying “I love you” to Allura on their first date. I don’t think I need to explain this one lol (Ted Mosby)
-Not having any indication that Allura has a crush on Lance beside a blush in season 7.
-Allura giving Lance the Altean marks for absolutely no reason. (Other than having him remember her forever which ok.)
-Lance never being able to move on from Allura and ending up single.
-Lance getting what he wants instead of what he needs. (Which the writers said wasn’t going to happen)
-The nice guy™ trope that shows a woman deciding to date the good guy after declining his advances for a long time. (Big Bang theory syndrome)
Allura:
-Allura’s death is really unnecessary. Honerva has been shown to have the same or even more power than her sooo, why was Allura’s sacrifice needed? They could have also sacrificed Voltron since it seemed it was not needed anymore after they rebooted the universe.
-The death seemed cheesy and not earned at all. Of all of the members of team Voltron, not one tried to stop her (?????????)
-In Avatar the last airbender the writers made sure to show why Yue was the only one that could save the day with her sacrifice. It was poetic. They could have done that as well if they had added any thematic meaning to the scene. Maybe have Allura turn into the white lion that Honerva had previously destroyed, or the old paladins coming back to ride Voltron one last time to restore the universe. The problem isn’t really that she died, but how and why.
-The whole “Allura being possessed by a dark magic creature and going into Honerva’s mind” nonsense.
-Coran and Allura didn’t get to say goodbye.
Lotor:
-Terrible message for anyone who watches the show. His parents that are literally the ones who caused the war, and either directly or indirectly, have caused the death of millions of people while also abusing their son for centuries still get some kind of redemption, while Lotor doesn’t?!
-The shot of his corpse was horrifying and not needed.
-Lotor had the potential of becoming a great villain, and he was, for like two seconds until they decided to throw the whole character away.
-The Voltron team basically murdered him in cold blood, but you won’t hear anything about it. just like you didn’t hear anything about that time Lance died or Keith was about to sacrifice himself.
-That scene where they show Lotor reuniting with his family before the universe is rebooted and they act like its all cool.
Keith and Shiro:
-It doesn’t matter if you ship them or not, no one could deny they had a strong bond. That is gone now baby!
-Shiro marrying a dude with two lines.
Hunk and Pidge:
-Lol who? Pidge’s arc ended the moment she found her family. My sweet boy Hunk barely even had one.
Klance:
No, but seriously, who??!! They had that one™ scene, which, again, what was the point of leaving that scene if it does nothing but confusing people?
LGBT:
-I have seen people defending the two-second clip at the end by saying “Well they did as much as they could” which okay, I guess… I still don’t think they deserve congratulations for their “representation”. Some of you are probably like “But Adventure time did the same thing, and everyone loved it!” To which I would say no, its not the same thing. The wlw ship in AT had been teased all throughout, the series including a scene were princess Bubblegum sniffs one of Marceline’s t-shirts (I still can’t believe that was something that actually happened). If the writers of Voltron had been in charge of Adventure time Finn would have probably ended up with Bubblegum, and then she would have died lol. I have also heard comparisons to the Legend of Korra. which is understandable. But that show ended five years ago, when the idea of two main lgbt characters on a popular children’s cartoon show was almost unthinkable. I understand that some of the younger fans are used to shows like Steven Universe or She-ra, but back then the most “progressive” lgbt stuff were background characters that appeared for five seconds and had little to no lines. This whole “if we have them kiss, they’ll leave us alone” attitude is, in my opinion, very stupid. As a member of the LGBT myself I always think that having meaningful interactions with the characters is more important than just showing them kissing. This is the reason I hate most of the straight couple who do not have any chemistry whatsoever, or why I usually prefer non-canon gay ships to the ones that are. Although I personally don’t ship it, I think that it’s the interactions between the characters that make people ship Sheith or Klance. My point here is that things have changed. Disney, a company known to never explicitly acknowledge the existence of LGBT people had a major character in a children’s show (Cyrus from “Andi Mack”) come out as gay and have storylines dedicated to him instead of being sidelined. Having a last-minute wedding where Shiro marries a character we don’t know and with whom we haven’t seen him have meaningful interactions with doesn’t really cut it anymore.
General:
-All of team Voltron are so out of character it’s not even funny. I’ve already mentioned the lack of interaction between Shiro and Keith but it really extends to the whole team. Allura and lance are happy with each other for like 2 seconds when they go visit his family but that is it.
-The Altean Colony(s) are never truly explained. It would be okay if it was a minor plot point but the end of season 6 revolves around the twist that Lotor is actually evil and should have never been trusted, a twist that was based on the colony(s). Allura says that Lotor was in fact right in a certain way and the show acknowledges that he deserved better, but it is never revealed when she changed her opinion. Was there ever a second colony? I’m guessing not… Also, why did the colony where they found Romelle looked like the inside of the room Allura used to go to talk to her father? Someone smarter than me please explain the colony(s).
-Romelle. Look I’m all for having more female characters but damn if this is not one of the most useless characters I have ever seen. She only exists to be a witness to Lotor’s crimes and getting her friends to hook up, I guess.
-Balmera ex-machina.
-Honerva: I actually like Honerva’s story, the flashback episode was probably one of my favorites. I just wanted to complain about the “If I can’t be happy no one else can” line because Jesus fucking Christ it sounds like if it was written by Skeletor. I wanna talk to whoever wrote that line and thought “yeah, that’s what a fully fleshed out, interesting and complex villain would say”.
Conclusion: Voltron had a great potential that couldn't have possibly been wrapped up in one season and both the storylines and the characters suffered because of it.
Bonus: Things I actually liked
-The animation.
-The Lance Family interactions were great.
-Lotor stealing his mother’s cat.

I feel like I've requested an awful lot from this blog when on anon so I'm just gonna drop off anon for now. :') anyways, since there's the youtuber au, how about an actor au? maybe with lance this time? c: thank you!
ACTOR AU CON LANCEY LANCE HERE WE GO
(also this got super long so i put most of it under the cut yeet)
~Water
Lance is an upcoming Cuban actor and his first big role was the lead in a cheesy romance film that seriously was the BOMB a summer ago
you watched it
immediately noticed that he was,,, very cute yes
you’re an impossibly famous actor/tress (Hollywood style, I’m talking Julia Roberts famous)
you started acting from a very young age
you’ve already gotten quite a couple of awards for your acting too
and now you and Lance got cast as the leads in a spy flick James Bond-esque film
and uhh
he is. very nervous
because he’s just a boy who likes acting?? and now he has to act with this absolutely amazing actor/tress who’s done this their whole life??
lowkey terrified
but super hyped
is so relieved when you turn out to be super nice!! you’re, like, the sweetest person he’s ever met
Shiro’s the film director
Allura’s the costume designer
Keith is the bad guy in the film. A terrifying sweetheart in real life
Pidge is the best hacker in the agency Lance works for
Coran’s his boss
and Hunk is Lance’s best friend and co-agent
you play the spy infiltrating Lance’s agency because your asshole boss (Keith) told you to
of course you fall in love with Lance’s character in the process because what are we, animals
but here’s the catch
you kinda sorta start to like him irl too
because he’s so pure and always manages to make you laugh
he kind of makes you forget about the actor world you grew up in
that you never really got to be a kid
Lance brings out the childish side in you
you soon become the absolute prank overlords
no one is safe
Keith: “is that a fUCKING CARDBOARD CUTOUT OF LANCE IN MY BATHROOM WHAT THE–”
you distracted him while Lance hid the cutout in Keith’s bathtub
cue the two of you giggling like schoolchildren while running from Keith
soon you’re actually joined at the hip
you do everything together
and while you become closer in real life, the feelings you get for each other grow stronger too
but neither of you confess just yet. no you completely ignore the feelings because what, simplicity? haha never heard of her
the pining is so painful that everyone on set actually lives the second-hand embarrassment
but neither of you actually admit to yourselves that you have those feelings
Lance: *staring at you across the room with a dopey smile on his face*
Keith: so when are you gonna ask them out
Lance: what do you mean we’re just friends okay stop bugging me with this god Keith you’re so annoying
Keith:
Allura has to hold Pidge back after she snaps and screams that it’s too much for her
covers her mouth just in time before she screeches “JUST KISS FOR FUCK’S SAKE”
it was a close call
BUT
there comes,,, can you guess it?
yep that’s right, the ball/chic party scene
Lance is dressed in a tux and a blue bowtie
and you walk down the stairs in your dark blue glittering outfit
golden eyeliner sharp enough to put Keith’s knife to shame
and Lance thinks to himself, Huh
maybe I do like them
same goes for you
the smile that lights up his face when you walk down the staircase is honestly enough to have you break down and sob (internally)
You, curled up on Hunk’s lap and sobbing after a day of shooting the party scene: he just looks so handsome in his tux and I just want to kiss him and not just in the film I want to hold his hand and run my fingers through his hair
Hunk, knitting and stroking your hair: hm
the kiss scene went about as well as you’d expect
both you and Lance were blushing messes by the end (you had to shoot it 23 times before Shiro was satisfied)
Shiro, fully aware that he had his kiss scene at the 4th take: and take 20, do it again
Lance never planned to confess the way he did
he messed up his lines because he got flustered because your character is hella cheeky and his heart can’t handle that and he accidentally said “I love you”
you don’t even realise that you say “I love you too” until everyone on set has gone completely silent
Shiro forgets to yell “CUT”
Pidge has to do it
Pidge, tears streaming down her face: did we get that on camera, please tell me we got that on camera
they did
Pidge regularly uses it as blackmail
Shiro, trying and failing to keep a straight face: all right folks, fifteen minute break
Lance tries to bolt outta there but you ain’t having none of that
you grab his wrist and drag him to your trailer, “””for privacy”””
that’s when both of you confess your feelings
and kiss. for real this time
by the time the break is over your head is actually spinning
both of your faces are flushed bright red and you’re grinning like idiots
Hunk, Allura and Shiro exchange money in the back of the set
Pidge sulks in a corner
nobody wanted to bet against her
smart
the rest of the filming goes surprisingly well
Shiro’s actually ecstatic because the chemistry between you and Lance is so real, on and off-screen and it makes the film 300 x better
the trailer is released
the internet blows up with theories
half of twitter is absolutely convinced that you and Lance are a thing
you and Lance talk about it and agree that it might be best to just get it over with as soon as possible and tell them
interviewer, trying to be all sneaky-like: so there’s been a lot of talk about you two lately. In the film you end up as lovers, of course, but does that also apply to real life?
You, deadpan: yea
interviewer: *gasp* are you confirming–
Lance, deadpan: yea
cue the internet completely blowing up
you know the will smith showing off his wife meme? yea that’s Lance
you’re goals. period.

Alright
I have a lot of things to say so it’s all under the cut
First of all, wow. What a finale. What a fucking finale, man...
I’m warning you now this is not a nice rant so if you really love Voltron and don’t like seeing other people hate on it do not read this lol
Let me be honest, Voltron really isn’t that great of a show. I’ve pretty much stayed here watching the new seasons out of obligation and my love for the characters. Even then the writers still fucked that up so I’m stealing them all and they’re mine now. Im not even sorry.
Voltron has always been a really tough show to keep track of and follow along with;; I never really know what’s going on and they introduce characters and planets so quickly that I forget about them right away and there’s like maybe 3 that are really memorable. So honestly the whole series has just seemed like an EXCESSIVE amount of filler that nobody needed. Even starting season 8 I had no fucking idea what was going on because the end of season 7 was just THAT unmemorable lmao. And they brought back so many characters I was like “Who the FUCK are you??” And it just made it ten times more confusing.
There was just so much unnecessary content we didn’t need in there. In season 8 they fought Honerva in her giant robot for like three or four episodes straight and that got really tiring really fast. Honestly most of s8 was just robot fights and I’m like “Are they writing a meaningful story or just 7 billion eye candy action sequences” TAKE THE TIME TO DEVELOP YOUR CHARACTERS, UNIVERSE, AND PLOT MORE INSTEAD OF DEDICATING 15 OUT OF 20 MINUTES OF SCREENTIME TO ROBOT FIGHTS THANKS. There are SO many plot holes and questions left unanswered that we’ll never get answered so that’s fantastic. Not to mention all of those fights were so fucking repetitive I got so bored watching the same thing happen over and over again. Voltron always wins, what’s fucking new?
Also man jesus christ they fucked over their characters SO MUCH. I’ll get into Allura last but let’s go down the list, shall we?
Lance was reduced to not only the comic relief but the super boring love interest. His relationship with Allura felt so forced and unnatural and there was no chemistry between them whatsoever. It was almost as if the writers were like “We need something for Lance to do in season 8” and then they decided “Let’s just make him a foil for Allura and make him her boyfriend!!” Like it was SO unnecessary and I’m sorry to any Allu//ance shippers out there but I felt so uncomfortable watching their romantic interactions. And I’m not SUPPOSED to feel that way. I actually did ship them until I watched this season but now I’m just really put off by it because WOW they wrote that romance horribly. I know people hate comparing Voltron to ATLA but take Sokka/Suki for example. Their dynamic is very similar to Lance and Allura’s and it’s a PERFECT example of what a good healthy relationship is like that isn’t forced or super awkward. If the writers had written their relationship like Sokka and Suki’s I’m sure I would like it SO much more! I was so upset to see Lance lose pretty much ALL of his development and be reduced to just a foil or a background character they could beat up on and use for fodder about Allura’s death. So fucking uncool. On top of that Lance became a FARMER?? REALLY?? He had dreams of becoming a famous pilot and yeah a war will do shit to you but I CANNOT imagine him living that sort of boring life it’s just not Lance at all!! So immensely out of character and not what he deserved. Lance deserved a real, true happy ending kicking ass in space and being in love with someone who really loved him back.
And Shiro—god, they fucking abused the shit out of him and treated him like a punching bag. Not to mention the awful queer baiting with Adam and then, to rectify their awful mistake, the writers made it so that he got married at the end of the series. Great. I don’t even know who the other guy is. Congrats Shiro, but it really doesn’t mean fucking shit if it was added on last minute and seems like a way to appease fans rather than to actually give Shiro a good ending. They could have brought Adam back and let Shiro marry him but nope!! They fucked that up too
Also all character development for Hunk went down the drain and he was also reduced to comic relief. He didn’t end up with Shay like I was hoping and just god so much racism I’m too irritated to even get into that
Keith and Pidge were the only ones who really got semi-decent endings and even still they were written badly too. (Doesn’t mean I’m not proud of them tho, good kids.)
And Allura.
FUCK. THE WRITERS.
They absolutely did not need to kill her off like that it was so pointless and utterly stupid that I’m sitting here rolling my eyes into the back of my head. They literally killed her for dramatic effect and that’s it. Yeah whatever she saved the fucking universe but they could’ve done that another way! That’s just lazy ass writing and it really offended a lot of people including myself so yeah! Not happy about that! It’s really racist and also pretty misogynist too?? Also Allura during the last season was not my favorite character at all she was written so terribly and out of character that I just ended up hating her and she deserves so much better than this absolute fucking bullshit
If they wanted to have a good final season, they should have kept Allura alive, given everyone actual GOOD character development, not threw in a super forced and uncomfortable relationship, and gave the characters proper happy endings with the people they SHOULD have ended up with. Not that romance is that big of a deal since Voltron isn’t about that but man they could have satisfied so many fans doing that but they just took the show and spit on it
So yeah I’ve had a really great experience being part of the fandom and creating content, and there’s definitely some good parts to the show. Voltron is a bad show lmao but I still had fun, and I’m still gonna make content that the fans actually deserve and want—and forget canon even exists. I’m salty and disappointed but I’m not surprised. Even so the show did end on as good as a note as it could have considering the circumstances and while I’m not 100% satisfied it was what I was expecting so. I’m like, iffy about how I feel towards the finale.
Anyway Klance is canon king, Adam and Shiro are married, Hunk is a universally famous chef with his gf Shay, Allura and Romelle are the new Altean Queens, Pidge is fucking amazing being herself and everyone’s happy the end
#Shima speaks#Anyway I'm salty goodnight#I still love Voltron but I also hate Voltron#I love fanon Voltron not canon lmao#I take Lance and Keith away from the writers#And Shiro and Allura and everyone#Long post#Voltron#Vld s8 spoilers

there’s a misconception that i want to correct about lance and keith’s dynamic in the franchise: the idea that lance and keith were at odds/rivals/hated each other in past continuities, when in fact they had always been best friends.
isamu kurogane (GoLion)/lance mcclain (DOTU/80′s):
leadership: kurogane/lance was kogane/keith’s right-hand man who respected and protected him. he never expressed any interest in leading the team or any jealousy/resentment towards kogane/keith. they had one argument that was precipitated by fala/allura being injured and was never brought up again. kurogane/lance was kogane/keith’s best and most trusted friend, whose input was sought out and taken into consideration.
romance (lance mcclain only): lance may have still been crushing on allura, but he prioritized his friends’ happiness over his own desires. when allura was upset about keith’s absence, lance was concerned for both of them. when they started dating, lance was happy for them. there was no drama.
lance mcclain (V3D):
leadership: lance frequently drove keith nuts and recklessly disobeyed certain orders, but he was loyal to keith when it mattered. he was also very protective of him, to the point of following him to certain meetings to ensure that he wouldn’t get hurt. they had one ridiculous fight (in which keith pulled a gun on him?? tf?), but otherwise, lance mostly just made his life difficult while also being 100% ready to die for him at any given moment. lance was keith’s best and most trusted friend, despite snarking at him all the time.
romance: lance was way too concerned with cooing at the red lion to pay any attention whatsoever to keith’s little crush on allura.
lance (VF):
leadership: lance led the team in keith’s extended absence, but when keith returned, he was still incredibly loyal towards him. they actually had an argument as to who would die for the other (”are we really arguing about who gets to make the noble sacrifice?” “only if you won’t let me do it!”) because they’re Extra like that. they did have some minor tension in terms of leadership because: a) keith had been gone for ages, and lance had become accustomed to leading in his own way; b) the cadets (all young teens) were preparing to take over for the previous paladins, and keith kept asking when they were going to leave, while lance basically adopted one of them immediately because he loves kids. if VF hadn’t been canceled, we would have probably seen keith continue as king of arus and lance continue leading the kids, without any serious conflict. lance was keith’s best and most trusted friend, one of the few people capable of making him smile.
romance: certain writers planned to create a love triangle, but what they actually accomplished was making lance ridiculously close to both keith and allura, who randomly hooked up near the end of the series, to the confusion of everyone around them (not just lance, but also hunk and pidge). in fact, lance was so close to both of them that allura included lance in the discussion that really only pertained to allura and keith as the rulers of arus, because, y’know, he’s their best friend! i’d argue that lance had better chemistry with each of them individually than they had with each other, but hey, what do i know? regardless, there was no jealousy or resentment of any kind in this regard.
lance has always been keith’s best friend. it was only very recently, under unique circumstances, that they had a “rivalry” of any sort. they never fought over leadership or allura in the way that many people assume in any past continuities.
i can only hope that s8 delivers something akin to their classic best buddies dynamic.

Okay, let’s real talk about Voltron S8...
This is probably gunna be a long SPOILER FILLED rant so I’ll just leave it under the cut. But before I do that let me just throw out one truth bomb...
Y’ALL MOSTLY HATE S8 BECAUSE YOUR SHIPS WEREN’T CANNON!!!!
Though I know that’s not ALL that you hate about it, I’ll get to that later, but it’s the main that’s made this fandom so infamous. Look, I’m gunna be real here, I knew (we all knew) since the beginning that Allurance (Allura x Lance) was going to be end game. There was literally no other option (*cough*yes there was *cough*) other then for them to get together, it’s a very common and basic formula used for all romantic tropes in cartoons. When two people from the opposite sex so much as glance at each other in a semi-romantic way (even if it’s only just one of them) they WILL most likely get together. It’s just cartoon logic. This formula has been used time and time again so I wasn’t very surprised when Lance and Allura got together. Even when she still had that thing with Lotor I KNEW her and Lance were still gunna end up together, some how.
Now I have nothing against Allurance, I think it’s a cute ship and the moments they had together during S8 were nice but I just don’t like HOW they got together. This was obviously a rebound relationship for Allura because she was emotional and heartbroken and needed someone who loved her unconditionally. That being said I’m pretty sure Lance also knew this was a rebound relationship, they’re in the middle of war, emotions are high, and he was so in love with Allura that he was desperate to take what he can.
So does that make them bad people by forming a relationship in the midst of a war just to gain a little emotional support? No. In fact, it could of been a very interesting concept to play around with and help both characters grow. Lance could have seen that he didn’t need someone to feel whole and accomplished in life, while Allura could have healed from the heartbreak and come out a much stronger person. HER AND LANCE COULD HAVE EVEN BECOME CLOSER AS FRIENDS WITH MAYBE A HINT OF A RELATIONSHIP SHOWN IN THE FUTURE IF YOU’RE REALLY TRULY DESPERATE FOR THAT SHIP!!! But the way they got together was so...sloppy and rushed and forced. Nothing was natural about it because since the beginning the only one who has shown interest in a relationship was Lance. If Allura had also shown interest in wanting to be with Lance earlier on (even if it was during s3 or s4) they could of had time to develop into a more believable romance.
The reason people gravitate more towards Klance (Keith x Lance) was because it had believable chemistry that we liked. Be it platonic or other wise, Keith and Lance help were very important to each other for their growth throughout the series. It was a natural growth that was interesting to watch which is why people latched on to it even though we knew, deep down, it was never going to be nothing more. I know there’s this whole thing about “queer baiting” but let’s be realistic here, this is a cartoon show made for kids, run by a company who only confirmed Gobber (from How to Train Your Dragon) was gay in one interview and nothing else, and killed off Adam (Shiro’s supposed fiance) without even confirming in show that him and Shiro were even together. It was never gunna happen and we should all just get over it. The moments we got with them were only there to either move the story along or appease us and nothing more.
Okay so moving on, story wise it was alright, nothing spectacular but I found it interesting. Granted they diverged from their original story in S1 a whole hell of a lot but it was sort of interesting to watch. Sometimes seasons were very inconsistent with what has already been established but the overall plot was somewhat engaging. This season I thought was pretty decent enough, but the ending just...wasn’t as grand as I was hoping it to be. I mean the whole battle scene with Honerva was amazing but the ending after was just very...meh.
ALLURA SERIOUSLY DID NOT NEED TO DIE!!!
I’m just putting it out there now! There could have been a million different ways to execute this if really did want her to die but this just felt half assed! You know why? BECAUSE SHE DIDN’T NEED TO DIE!!! You’re just gunna put a character through all that suffering and NOT give her the happy ending she deserves? You know who SHOULD have died?
HONERVA! HONERVA SHOULD HAVE DIED! I DON’T CARE IF ALLURA OR THE PALADINS WERE BEING THE “BIGGER PERSON” ABOUT IT, SHE SHOULD HAVE DIED! SHE WAS GOING TO DESTROY ALL OF REALITY AND EXISTENCE! ALL BECAUSE SHE COULDN’T LET GO OF THE PAST AND GET WHAT SHE WANTED!!!
I have no sympathy for her, I have no sympathy for Zarkon, and I have no sympathy for Lotor! I don’t care that they have tragic, misunderstood backstories THAT STILL DOESN’T GIVE THEM THE RIGHT TO DO THE THINGS THEY DID!!!
Don’t get me wrong, villain redemption arcs are totally valid in any other context but sympathy or pity for genocidal maniacs IS JUST SO MANY SHADES OF FUCKED UP!!! (ex. THE FUCKING DIAMONDS FROM STEVEN UNIVERSE).
So yeah, Honerva should of died, Allura should of lived, and many more things before this season could of been planed better. Also that ending scene with Shiro getting married I thought was pretty cute. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not really a TRUE form of lgbtq+ rep, it was rushed and probably a sloppy form of an apology for killing off Adam but I don’t think we should hate on it. It’ll only discourage other creatures in the future from truly making representation we deserve. Plus, I’m glad that Shiro was able to find happiness after all the shit he’s gone through! I thought all the little glimpses in to the future end cards were very fitting and nice. Well, all except foR LANCE!!!
SERIOUSLY?! SERIOUSLY, YOU GUNNA DO MY BOY LIKE THAT?!
Like, I’m glad he stayed with his family on Earth (I know a lot of people think he left to settle in Altea but checked back and am here to confirm that is NOT true) but did they seriously had to make him a farmer?!?! Yes, I wanted him to be with his family and stay on Earth BUT there is so much more they could of done with him! Pidge stayed on Earth with her family and made huge technological advances and you’re telling me Lance couldn’t have done something similar? I mean, I get that after all of it he’d want to spend time with his family and get away from the war and adventure of it all but there was still so much that needed to be done! Coran, Keith, Shiro, Hunk, and Pidge were all still trying to bring together a broken universe because, as anybody could tell you, just because the war is over doesn’t me everything is fixed. And like HELL would Lance just take a seat while his friends were out there rebuilding! It is like a MAJOR disrespect to Allura’s memory! One that Lance has made very clear that he want’s to HONOR in the best way possible and the writers thought that him having a FARM was be best thing to do that?!
NOT A FUCKING CHANCE!!!
Okay, so after breathing for a moment, I have to say that I actually did enjoy this season. Sure, then ending of it was lack luster and the whole Allurance thing was cute but poorly done but other then that I really, really liked it. Could it have had a better send off? Yes. But the one that it got WASN’T the worst thing in the world and I would gladly watch Voltron all over again. In fact I’m going to because I like the show and it’s characters and even the shitty fandom it has. Sure, it’s flawed but so is everything else in life so there’s no use in crying over something that is over.
Either enjoy Voltron for what it is or just put it out of your life if it’s causing you that much misery. At the end of it all it’s just a show.

VLD1x09 – “Return to the Balmera”
1x09 – “Return to the Balmera”
“Besides, it’s more like, ‘blam, blam, blam!’” I love when Shiro’s a dork.
As part of the team’s deliberations about an attack plan, Allura says they can track the Galra using Biothermal Life Indicator Point Technology. How would that track the sentries though since they’re robots? Anyway, the team has their plan, and everyone’s got their assignments. The Black Lion informs Shiro about the Jawblade when he’s trying to think of a way to take down some Galra battlements – given that at that point we’ve already seen Lance and Hunk take out battlements with Blue’s tail laser and Yellow just ramming into them, I don’t get why Shiro’s baffled about how to attack the battlements; just blowing them up has worked so far. Beyond that though, if I understand correctly, the Jawblades are an element of Voltron from the original? So, their inclusion in VLD is solely a nostalgia thing then because their design is kind of pathetic. The width of the Jawblade for the Black Lion is barely a bit wider than the Lion itself, so really, it wouldn’t be able to cut anything with the Jawblade and not slam fully into it.
Then Red starts shooting a special laser than melts things. Again, they’ve been doing fine just regularly blowing things up, so there’s been no narrative need for this fire beam. But the Galra’s big cannon is taken down, and it starts to fall, and everyone freaks out. If it falls and crashes to the ground, they think the impact will hurt the Balmera. They weren’t concerned with the debris from the other towers’ destruction, so why now? Also, if the Balmera cannot handle significant impacts on its surface, then it’s got a huge problem. The Balmera is large enough that Hunk previously mistook it for a planet or moon, so it’s big enough – which means it’s got enough gravity – that it would attract space objects. Meteoroids and asteroids would be something a Balmera would have to contend with.
To keep the tower from falling, Blue has an ice beam. At least the ice beam feels differentiated from a normal blaster, unlike Red’s fire beam, but honestly, I’m still not fond of these new weapons. Especially since the fire beam and ice beam are tied to the Keith/Lance rivalry. I’m so exhausted by stories using the cliché pairing of fire and ice as if they’re opposites. The thought behind it is so sophomoric – fire’s hot, ice is cold, thus they’re opposites. No, they really aren’t. They’re two totally different qualities. Ice is physics, a state of matter. Fire is chemistry, an actual chemical reaction. Fire and ice are not on a spectrum the way this pairing tries to portray them as; they’re totally different things.
I kind of like the mobile hovercraft the Paladins use in this episode; I don’t remember them being used much though throughout the rest of the series. The Paladins split up to do various tasks underground. Keith and Lance are paired together, with Lance proposing the idea that they shut the hanger doors to trap Galra fighters inside. Keith’s hand on the handprint of the Galra tech closes the door. That’s super convenient that the control system is set up to so easily and immediately give them their objective. I assume this moment was supposed to be the first foreshadowing that Keith is part Galra? Especially since Hunk uses a sentry’s hand for a handprint scan shortly afterward. How do sentries have handprints to scan anyway? They’re robots.
Hunk breaks a handful of Balmerans out of a cell. Shay’s been taken to the core of the Balmera. Shiro recognizes that they’re being drawn into an ambush, so he calls all the Paladins to reunite. The Balmera starts freaking out. With Lance and Keith under fire, Lance says, “We can’t shoot back. It’ll just make it worse.” If Lance and Keith returned fire and quickly took out the sentries that are blasting endless cover fire it would make things better, but the show wants some unnecessarily drawn out moment of Keith dropping in to sword the sentries while Lance invites them to shoot at him as a distraction. Hunk finds Shay, and all the Paladins end up trapped in the core chamber.
Meanwhile, the Castle Ship is under significant fire from a fleet of Galra ships. I don’t know why Allura and Coran hadn’t bothered to inform the Paladins of their situation until now when Lance asks her for help. That’s not exactly good tactical communication on the Castle’s part.
The Balmeran communication method of touching the Balmera and feeling Shay’s vibration and sending it to other Balmerans is… easy. Rax has a change of heart, accepts some blame for the situation, and wants to work to free Shay and ultimately all the Balmerans. I welcome Rax ceasing to be a jerk.
“You fool! You dare make plans without informing me?” Zarkon speaks in traditional villain-ese language. If the Galra Empire is as huge as it supposedly is, then various levels of its military would have to make plans without informing Zarkon of every little thing. For such a large organization as a military, the division of labor, and with it, many layers of decision making, is necessary. The idea that every decision, especially something like engaging in a point-of-incursion response to the Paladins’ assault on the Balmera, has to be run through Zarkon is unrealistic. The whole scene just functions to show Zarkon to be a typical cartoonish villain. I want better than that.
A Galra battle cruiser shows up, and it’s bigger than the Castle Ship. Allura is afraid the Castle Ship can’t handle being shot by the cruiser. Rax and some other Balmerans break Shay and the Paladins out. The Galra are trying to tractor beam steal the Lions, but the Paladins quickly recover their Lions and take to the sky and attack the Galra fighters. Again, the fire and ice beams are used for no real reason that regular blasters couldn’t handle. The cruiser shoots a sustained blast at the Castle Ship. The Paladins form Voltron, which we haven’t seen for a few episodes, so it’s kind of nice to see it again now. With Voltron engaging the cruiser, the Castle Ship is able to use its blasters to destroy the cruiser and a bunch of remaining fighters. Since the Castle Ship mostly just sits around getting shot at in this show, I had forgotten that it even had significant weaponry.
Our heroes think they have the chance to breathe and make repairs, but another Robeast lands on the surface of the Balmera, setting up the next episode.
I don’t really feel like there’s much to analyze in this episode. It’s mostly action oriented, it’s connected well structurally to the narrative from episodes before and to episodes to come. Overall, it’s an okay, decent enough episode.

Accidental kiss? :)
Oh my God I had so much fun writing this. It ended up breaking 3k so I hope you like it. THANK YOU for this prompt!!
–x–x–x–x–x–x–x
The music was loud, beating away in Lance’s chest like a drum. He loved it; loved the way it felt like a second heartbeat, loved how fuzzy his head felt. He was leaning against the wall of Hunk’s basement, red solo cup in hand. His head was thrown back with laughter and Hunk was standing across from him, a flush painting his cheeks the softest shade of pink. Pidge was next to him, sly grin on her face as she watched Lance laugh like her silly pun was the funniest thing he’d ever heard in his life. This was what he needed. Midterms had just ended and it had been hell week to say the least— Lance had taken five midterms in two days and his brain was officially mush.
“This party is going great, Hunk.” Pidge said as she waited for Lance to calm his tipsy self back down. It was true, the basement was filled with nearly fifty people milling about, playing pong and just generally having fun. It was the most successful party they’d had to date.” But I can think of one thing to make it better.”
“You’re gonna say truth or dare!” Lance accused, thrusting a finger towards Pidge.
Pidge had been trying to get them to agree to truth or dare since the start of the year and every time Hunk and Lance had refused. Lance wasn’t sure what it was exactly, but he knew Pidge had a plan and he did not want to walk right into what was an obviously set trap. “Of course I am.”
Maybe it was the alcohol or maybe it was because midterms had just wrecked them all, but Hunk met Lance’s gaze, gave a slight shrug and finally said “I’ll play.”
Lance looked back at him for a long moment. When he agreed, it was definitely because of the alcohol. Pidge was one his best friends, though, so he figured it couldn’t go too wrong. Still, the way Pidge’s grin spread all the way across her face made him a little nervous. He lifted his cup to his mouth and took another swig. He’d never liked the taste of beer but at this point he couldn’t really taste it anymore. Plus, they called it liquid courage for a reason.
“Finally!” Pidge set her bottle down on the nearby table and clapped her hands together happily. “Okay! Are you guys ready?”
“Is it literally just going to be the three of us?” Hunk asked.
At the same time, Lance rolled his eyes, exclaiming “I don’t know what you’re up to but this is so suspicious!”
“Fine, fine!” Pidge waved a hand in dismissal, turning away from them briefly to call to another group of people standing nearby. “Hey! You guys wanna play truth or dare? We’re just about to start!”
The group rushed over in excitement and Lance could immediately understand why. It was his sister, Veronica, and her group of friends. Lance liked them for the most part, but there was one person is particular he hated. He was constantly asking Veronica why she was friends with Griffin and she insisted that he wasn’t that bad once you got to know him but Lance remained unconvinced.
“Can we play, too?” Lance turned to see his RA, Shiro, with his boyfriend, Adam. Technically Lance wasn’t supposed to be friends with his RA but Shiro was really cool and laid back and he laughed at all of Lance’s jokes. And since the party wasn’t in the dorms, Lance had thought it would be okay to invite him.
“Of course! The more the merrier!” Pidge stepped closer to Hunk, making room for them to join the circle.
Lance glanced around at their odd group and felt a swell of happiness in his chest. Suddenly he didn’t care what was about to happen because he was surrounded by some of his favorite people. He leaned to his right, pressing into his sister, and smiled to himself when she pressed back, dropping her head onto his shoulder.
“Okay, rules! You get to pick truth or dare. If you pick truth and refuse to answer, you are given a dare that you have to do. And if you pick dare and refuse, you get truth and have to answer that. Everyone cool with that?” There was a murmur in response of agreement.” Okay, Hunk you start us off and then we’ll go clockwise.”
“Right.” Hunk looked around the circle, taking time to really stare at each person. Lance wasn’t sure why, this was Hunk after all. He was going to ask something completely benign and harmless no matter who he chose. “Adam, truth or dare?”
“It’s early enough in the game that I can choose Truth without being too lame. So, truth.” Everyone chuckled at his response.
It took a few moments and a long drink on Hunk’s part before he asked, “If you had to date anyone in this circle besides Shiro, who would it be?”
Surprised by his boldness, Lance shot Hunk a proud smile. Adam hummed as he thought, looking around the circle himself. Lance sipped at his drink.
Finally, Adam answered. “Lance, probably.”
“Hell yeah!” Lance cried, throwing a fist in the air in triumph. “I’m a ladies man and a mans man! And everybody man!” Veronica nudged him but everyone laughed. He pointed dramatically at Shiro, “Better watch your back!”
Shiro laughed, taking Adam’s hand and threading their fingers together. “Somehow I’m not worried about it. I am worried about your ego though, it’s getting a little big over there.”
“A little big?” Hunk stepped forward so he could see Shiro around Pidge. “Have you met Lance before? It’s always been huge!”
“Hey!” Lance cried indignantly.
“Okay, okay, my turn.” Pidge settled everyone down and then pretended to think of who to choose. It was clear that she knew ahead of time by the mischievous look in her eyes. “Lance, truth or dare?”
Lance was distinctly unsurprised to have Pidge pick him and answered with a simple “Truth.”
The smile that Pidge gave him in response indicated that he had just given her exactly the answer she wanted. Not even the alcohol or the slight fogginess in his head could stifle the dread that came with that look. “Who do you have a crush on?”
Suddenly Lance wished nobody else had joined their game. Pidge knew he had a crush on someone, but he’d been adamantly refusing to tell her who. It wasn’t that he didn’t trust her, it was more that he didn’t want to admit it to himself. Still, as soon as she asked her question he got a flash of violet eyes and a dark mullet that he would know anywhere. Immediately his drunk brain moved from that to flushed cheeks and soft looking lips that he’d dreamed about kissing so many times. He’d memorized Keith so well that he could trace the sharp angle of his jaw completely in his mind. Involuntarily, Lance’s eyes focused past Pidge’s shoulders to where Keith was on the other side of the room, talking to Hunk’s crush, Shay.
“I don't—” Lance cleared his throat, hoping to make him voice sound a little steadier as he looked back at Pidge. “I don’t have a crush on anyone.”
“If you refuse to answer, you have to do a dare.” Pidge reminded him.
“I’m not refusing! I just answered! The answer is nobody!” Lance swallowed, suddenly feeling too hot.
“Then why are you blushing so much?” Adam asked with a grin.
Shiro chimed in, too. “Seriously, give it up. We all know there’s someone.”
“No there isn’t!”
“One more chance to tell us or I get to give you a dare!” Pidge warned.
Lance could only imagine what dare Pidge would come up with for him, but somehow it still wasn’t as terrifying as the prospect of admitting his crush on Keith. It wasn’t that the others wouldn’t understand, because literally everyone had a crush on Keith. He was just one of the masses, no different than everyone else, pining uselessly over someone he’d never have a chance with. Plus. he and Keith had just become lab partners in Chemistry and things were going okay. Lance didn’t want to ruin that by word getting around about his hopeless crush.
With a defeated sigh, Lance met Pidge’s gaze. “Give me a dare.”
To his surprise, Pidge didn’t look disappointed. He had expected her to be upset at missing her chance but, instead, she looked even more pleased than she had before. It was a moment before Pidge gave her dare that Lance realized that Pidge knew exactly who he had a crush on, she just wanted him to admit it. He felt his world crash around him as she said. “I dare you to give Keith a kiss.”
“No, no way, absolutely not.” Lance was shaking his head so fast it made him dizzy. “I will absolutely not give Keith a kiss.”
“Sorry Lance,” it was Veronica, her hand suddenly clasping his shoulder. “But you agreed to the rules at the beginning. You can’t refuse your dare.”
Next to her, Griffin was laughing, practically doubled over on himself. “Kogane is gonna kick the shit out of you, man. “
The world was spinning around Lance and it wasn’t the alcohol. He could feel his hands trembling. This couldn’t possibly get any worse. And yet, still, he knew Veronica was right. He had agreed to the rules, agreed to do a dare if he didn’t want to answer his truth. Something in the back of his mind was ringing, telling him that this was why he’d refused to play this game with Pidge so many times in the past.
“I never said you have to kiss him on the lips,” Pidge amended. “Just that you have to kiss him at all. It can be anywhere.”
Lance wanted to die. He wanted to shrivel up into a little ball and disappear from existence forever. Instead, he steeled himself against what he was about to do. Ignoring everyone around him and his thundering heart, Lance chugged the rest of his beer and set the cup down on the table nearby. He took a deep breath and tried to tell himself that this was okay. He could just blame it on Pidge, or on being drunk. He could blame it reasonably on a lot of things other than his crush. Keith was a cool guy, he would understand when Lance explained it away in class on Monday.
“I hope you’re happy about this.” He said to Pidge.
As he started to march across the room, he heard Pidge laugh, “Oh, I am.”
The lights in the basement were low and yet he could see Keith clearly as he approached. He could see the casual ease with which Keith stood, one hand shoved deep in the pocket of his jeans. Lance paused a few steps away, struggling with all of his might to maintain his nerve and just go through with it. He could get revenge on Pidge later. He watched Keith talk to Shay for a moment, trying not to wish he was the one making Keith laugh. Again his focus drifted down to Keith’s lips. He thought about being bold and kissing him square on the mouth, but he knew he’d never have the guts to do it, no matter how badly he wanted to. Instead he was going to go for a simple peck on the cheek and then retreat to the other side of the room as fast as he possibly could.
Before he could chicken out, Lance took a deep breath and started moving again. He approached Keith as quick as he could, heart thundering in his chest so loudly it was all he could hear. He was three steps away from Keith. Two. One.
“Hey Lance!” Shay said as he leaned in to plant the kiss on Keith’s cheek. He figured no preamble was better. He didn’t want to stand here and stutter out an explanation for why he was kissing Keith on the cheek, he just wanted it to be done. He also didn’t want to give Keith the chance to send him away because he knew deep down that Pidge wouldn’t accept that and he’d have to try again which would be mortifying.
Except, maybe a preamble would have been better. Because Keith turned to look at Lance as Shay greeted him, as Lance was leaning in to kiss his cheek. He turned all the way around just at the right moment and suddenly Lance was no longer giving Keith a peck on the cheek but instead was kissing him full on the mouth. The world came to a screeching halt around Lance and the moment of their kiss seemed to stretch on and on and on and on for eternity.
After what felt like years or maybe even centuries, Lance pulled back from Keith.
“What… the hell?” Keith was looking at him, lips parted in wonder.
Lance tried not to reach up and touch his own lips. Tried not to think about what it had felt like to have Keith’s lips under him. He definitely tried not to acknowledge the fact that Keith tasted like some fruity alcohol drink. Lance had never liked those but damn it was immediately his new favorite flavor. He wanted to taste it again, and again, and five hundred more times after that. He took a steadying breath, trying to focus on Keith and the question he’d asked and not on the way his lips were tilting up at the corner in a slight smirk.
“I, uh,” Lance shook his head, snapping his attention back up to Keith’s eyes. Not that it was significantly better, because Keith’s eyes were gorgeous and enchanting. “I was dared to kiss you. I was planning on just a cheek kiss but, uh, well… that didn’t happen.”
Everyone in the world had heard of sobering moments and suddenly Lance found himself in one. Staring at Keith, waiting for his response, pushed all of the haze out of Lance’s brain. Instead of the fog, his brain was filled with an alarm telling him to get out before Keith had a chance to kick his ass. But he couldn’t move, he didn’t want to move. Not away from Keith, at least. He’d be happy to move closer.
“You were dared to kiss me?” Keith was clearly looking over his shoulder at what Lance could only assume was his group of friends. He raised an eyebrow before focusing back on Lance. “That’s why you did it?”
There was an undertone of… Lance couldn’t name it. He watched as Keith took a step closer to him, and then another. He glanced down to Keith’s hands to find them empty, no solo cup in sight. Lance looked back up and held his breath as Keith came yet another step closer, their chests brushing.
“You didn’t do it because you… wanted to?” Keith’s gaze was fiercely unwavering.
Lance swallowed, certain his entire body was on fire. He could feel his soul leaving his body. “What makes you think I want to?”
“Well, for starters,” Keith leaned a little closer, dropping his voice so only Lance could hear it. Suddenly this was the most intimate moment of Lance’s life and he forgot the rest of the party existed. He could still feel the bass of the music thumping in his chest with his heart and he just prayed that it would keep him alive if his heart failed. “You keep glancing at my lips.”
As if cued, Lance lowered his gaze to Keith’s lips again, cursing himself for being so blatant. For getting caught. “That might be true,” He breathed so quietly he wasn’t sure that Keith heard it. He wanted Keith to hear it, but he also didn’t.
“And what if I wanted to kiss you?” Keith prompted, his lips forming a full smirk now.
“I’d say you were drunk.”
“I’m not,” Keith assured a moment before gripping the collar of Lance’s shirt and pulling him down into a fierce kiss, slipping a hand around his waist and pulling their bodies flush together.
Lance was absolutely certain he had died and gone to heaven but he didn’t care. He threaded his fingers into Keith’s mullet, tugging gently on the strands and marveling at the shaky breath Keith let out against his lips in response. His other hand traveled up and down Keith’s back, feeling his muscles moving under his shirt as he held Lance firmly, nipping at his lip. Lance succumbed, leaning all of weight into Keith. Lance could still taste the fruity alcohol and somehow managed to love it even more than before.
Kissing Keith the first time, though accidental, had been great. But kissing him now, with him kissing back, fingers insistent upon his hips, was so much greater. Every nerve ending in Lance’s body was singing as Keith continued to kiss him insistently, like it was something he’d been wanting to do for ages. Lance tugged gently on his hair again and Keith let out a low groan in the back of his throat. Lance never wanted to ever pull away.
But he had to. Because he had to breathe. If he didn’t breathe, he’d die. And if he died, he wouldn’t be able to kiss Keith again.
“That was…” Lance wasn’t even sure how to finish that sentence. Wasn’t sure he wanted to finish that sentence. He didn’t want anything to end right now.
“Just so you know,” Keith’s lips were flushed from kissing, a pink that matched the blush on his cheeks. Lance reached up and ran his knuckles gently along his cheeks, watching as the color darkened below his fingers. “You’re literally welcome to do that any time.”
“Really?”
Keith laughed and the sound lit a new flame inside Lance’s soul, making him feel alive. “I knew you were oblivious but damn, I didn’t think you were this oblivious.”
“Hey!” Lance defended, stepping back and crossing his arms.
Keith didn’t let go of his hips as he moved, keeping them connected. “Lance, seriously? I went out of my way to trade lab partners so I could have you. I’ve been dropping hints for months.”
“You have?”
With a fond shake of the head, Keith leaned in and gave him another sweet kiss. “Yes. I have. And clearly you have not been picking up on them. But you did kiss me back, so I’m hoping…?”
“That I feel the same?” Lance completed for him, smiling and letting his arms drop to his sides. “I do.”
He let Keith pull him in to a hug then, trying not to shiver as he planted a kiss on the side of Lance’s neck. They stayed that way for a moment and as they did, the world seemed to expand around Lance again. He became aware of the weight of all the stares on him, but he didn’t care. Because this was the best thing that had ever happened to him.
“So, why don’t you take me back to the people who made this happen so I can thank them?” Keith teased with a smile. “At least someone was observant enough to make this happen.”
Lance shoved him but immediately reached for him, pulling him back to his side. “Fine. Shay, you should come, too. I know there’s someone over there who’d love to have you around.”
With a smile, Lance grabbed Keith’s hand, trying not to faint as Keith intertwined their fingers and led them over to the group, trying not to blush as everyone hooted, hollered and clapped as they approached.

Unpopular Opinion: I enjoyed season 8
So first, I’m mostly doing this to sort out my own feelings, but I DO think there are some things worth considering here.
To be clear, Enjoying something and thinking that something was perfect are different. I enjoy plenty of things that are garbage and I do think this season had it’s fair share of flaws, but it’s not nearly as awful as some of ya’ll are ripping into it over. In addition, regardless of if it is bad or not harassment of the creators is never justified. EVER. So if you feel the need to take out your frustrations on the cast/crew stop what you are doing then DON’T.
Sorry in advance if you’re on mobile cuz this is a long one under the read more.
Why I was able to enjoy it:
Three major things I always keep in mind going into a new season:
1. Don’t watch it FOR the ship, enjoy the show for what it is. I think the primary thing that has allowed me to enjoy each season is I try to watch it without shipping goggles. At the end of the day, shipping is fun but it is for fandom and not the reason I’m watching the show, especially a show made for 7 year old boys.
2. I (along with most of the fandom on this website) am not the target audience for this show. Voltron may be an abnormally good kids show, but it is still a kids show. I have never walked into a season thinking that it is content made for me, and the things that are important to me just aren’t important enough to 7 year olds to have the time I want spent on them. I have to be okay with that because as much as I would love to have a whole episode of Shiro really struggling with what it means to be a leader, and the weight of Adam’s sacrifice, the 7 year old this show was made for is going to be bored shitless and decide “I don’t want that Voltron toy for my birthday after all.” So yeah, that is going to change the choices the crew makes when they create these episodes.
3. This is a reboot. Several different companies have BIG stakes in Voltron. Things like LGBT rep are only going to go as far as ONE important old white man who thinks (insert your fave here) is straight. Anybody who has followed me for more than 3 seconds knows I ship Sheith, but knowing how the entertainment industry works changed how I thought the direction of the series was going from day one. If it was so hard for them to get even ambiguous ‘Takashi, how much do I mean to you’ when both Shiro and Adam are legally original characters, there is NO WAY the powers that be will allow them to gay up big names in the franchise like Keith or Lance. For that reason I never expected a canon gay relationship between any of the main characters. No Sheith, no Klance, no Pallura, no Hance. I do believe it was important to the creators and they did they absolute best with what they had, but ultimately it was not their decision and a lot of ya’ll need to stop acting like you are performing some kind of holy service by harassing them about it. They did their jobs as best they could and the fandom was pressuring them the whole time to make promises they didn’t know if they could keep.
For these reasons I was able to enjoy the new season for what it was: a reboot aimed toward children that I shouldn’t expect a primary romantic plot out of. And honestly? Thats what I got. The only big romantic plot revolved around Lance and Allura and even that was only a handful of scenes. I think the main problem with this fandom has always been people putting unrealistic expectations on a show that wasn’t aimed at them. Why people chose to put all of their expectation eggs in the Voltron basket specifically is beyond me, and frankly a bit unfair to the people who made it. But we don’t have to get into that right now.
Things that I enjoyed:
1. Hunk is best boy. I loved his and Lance's friendship shining through and when he turned into team mom. Some highlight include: “It’s happening tonight, young man!” “I’m sorry I yelled at you. I’ll make you dog treats later.” When he made that Altean dessert because he is so sweet and knows how to bring people together. What a star, what a diplomat, what a fine, fine man. 2. BaBy LoToR 3. Seeing all the paladins in their under armor. I would feel robbed because Shiro was left out but the entire series has been Shiro fan service so I’m not even mad. 4. VERONICA AND AXCA BONDING? NICE. Didn’t expect to ship them? I do. Nice. 5. Everything about Day Fourty-Seven. A filler episode I genuinely enjoyed. MY only wish is we could have gotten Keith and Krolia in an interview together and she went out of her way to embarrass him like “while we were in the Quantum Abyss-” “Mom, why are you doing this to me?” “I have 20 years of Mothering to catch up on, young man.” 6. Shiro feeling like a bad ass and looking cool during the arm wrestling competition. What a good. 7. This was really Allura’s season, wow, what a queen. 8. Keith giving Lance a bunch of pep talks and opening up to become not only a good leader but a good friend. 9. Keith YELLING at the Zarkon mech because he had leadership responsibility feels. 10. I did not expect to have FEELINGS over seeing young Zarkon. 11. Honerva’s motivations were honestly....so honest. So realistically human, you know? It seems so fitting that this whole thing began with a rift into another reality, and a broken family. And it ended with a rift into another reality, and that family finally being able to be at peace. That is the theme that has been following us form the beginning: family. And even the final villain just wanted to fix the damage that had been done to hers. Though I do feel like her turnaround was a little quick, I can forgive it for kinds show reasons. 12. Allura getting to hug Alfor again. 13. Lance getting the stamp of approval from the dad. 14. Speaking of which, even I thought the Allurance scenes were pretty cute despite not being a huge fan of the ship. 15. The character development that is evident. If you compare all these characters to who they were in E1S1 they are all vastly different. The only exception to this is Coran, though I do feel like Allura’s is mostly internal and she has a way of conducting herself that can make it difficult to perceive. 16. I am VERY SAD about Allura dying...but you know what? I think this ending actually suited her. I don’t think she would be satisfied withotu making a grand reality wide sacrifice. She restored Altea, and returned into the fabric of space-time itself with her family. This has been being foreshadowed since Season 1 to be honest. She is always taking risks and wanting to keep moving and bettering things. She is perfect and we don’t deserve her and in my heart she is the goddess of reality itself. 17. The scene where the lions all came to life and flew away, and then that lovely art of them going into the rift. I really think they went back to Allura, and the next time the Universe needs Voltron, it will be her spirit leading the way. And honestly? I don’t think she would want it any other way. 18. The MFE Pilots grew on me... 19. MMMMMBIG ROBOT PRETTY 20. We got Shiro and the rest of the paladins piloting all together again. 21. ALMOST Galra Emperor Keith.
The things I didn’t think were great:
1. What the fuck happened to Ezor’s voice? She only said one word and I thought she was dying? 2. Keith and Shiro like...didn’t even talk. And even without shipping goggles that just seems wrong to me. Their bond has been one of the points the story has turned on. We got all the build up but none of the payoff. No shoulder touches, no ‘I’m proud of you, Keith’, none of the usual friendship or dynamic they usually have with each other. It felt kind of empty honestly :( And whats more is...Keith has been sacrificing and fighting and loving Shiro for 7 seasons now, and Shiro never got to repay him. Like he wasn’t in his hospital room when he woke up and nobody can fucking tell me when Shiro said “spend time with the people you love” Keith wouldn’t be spending time with Shiro. It just....feels so dissatisfying to see one of the major emotional bonds in the show not even be acknowledged in the end. It makes everything Keith worked for feel...not...there. Like what did all that mean in the end? As many times as it takes but he gives and gives and gives and the only one who returns what he gives is Krolia. It used to be Shiro returned it too, but now... Even without it being romantic, their relationship was done a dirty. I didn’t need canon Sheith I just needed some kind of acknowledgement that all the suffering they endured was worth it. I wanted to see them happy. 3. Despite what I said above I am sad Allura is gone. 4. Shiro was hardly in the season at all actually :((((((((((((((((((( 5. Yeah, as cute as the scenes were I’ve never felt Allura and Lance have a chemistry that makes their relationship sit well with me. But I guess it was necessary to show how Lance has matured as a person. I always thought they have the POTENTIAL for chemistry but it’s always fallen short for me. Allura just takes her life too seriously and her walls never actually came down enough for me to see a connection there. 6. James and Keith never like...talked? I would have liked for them to have had a reconciliation like Keith and Lance did. 7. Lack of Krolia. 8. Something was off about Kolivan’s voice 9. TBH, I feel like The real fulfillment for Keith’s arc would have been his teammates encouraging and lifting him up as well. Display his emotional availability which was completely closed off at the start. I feel like they may have just dropped the ball on a couple of character’s arc resolution but...eh. You gotta pick and choose what to focus on when you have an ensemble cast, and 7 year olds just aren’t always interested in that. 10. Woulda been nice to get a bit more detail on the nature of the rift creatures and some more clarity for a through line from the beginning thousands of Years ago to now. Along with that exactly what kind of entity IS Voltron itself? A lot of seeds planted that made a half attempt at being resolved but weren’t quite clear enough to create something cohesive. 11. I can’t put my finger on why but overall it just feels...Incomplete. Like there is still a pit in my stomach that doesn’t feel satisfied by the ending. I’m not sure how much of that is the season itself, and how much is I’ve been involved in this show for nearly 2 years and it’s hard to let go, especially on something that doesn’t quite feel like going out with a bang.
Highly unpopular opinion in my neck of the woods:
That wedding at the end? I’m happy about it. Do I think its bad writing to marry off one of your main five to a rando we don’t even know the name of? Yes. Am I annoyed that the fandom was SO awful and so accusatory toward the showrunners they felt the need to shoehorn in a last minute wedding because they honestly felt bad when the truth is this has always been a glorified ship war? MEGA YES. They shouldn’t have felt like they had to make this bad writing decision on the behalf of fans who have treated them and their efforts like shit. Shame on the people who treated them this way. They tried so FUCKING hard to give us something and ya’ll threw it away and called them evil. I get how you feel but damn why don’t YOU try to make social change happen in the entertainment industry and see how well your LGBT paradise vision goes over when there are dozens of other people with a say. (I could go on about how poorly that was handled on both ends, but that is another point altogether.)
More than anything, I’m happy that some 7 year old kid who LOVES the badass Captain Takashi Shirogane is going to see him get married on screen and kiss a MAN. Like holy shit, that is HUGE. Do I think it could have been written better? Absolutely. But This show wasn’t made for me it was made for the 7 year kid out there is going to think “Shiro kissed a boy, maybe I’m not weird for wanting to kiss boys” and THAT is what Representation in children’s media is all about. I’m going to celebrate this and everything else related to Shiro’s LGBT status because what matters to me way more than ships or satisfying romantic arcs is maybe when my little nephew sees his favorite character is gay he will be a little more open and comfortable when I bring my girlfriend to family dinner.
I think it would do the fandom (especially the Sheith shippers) some good to step back, take off their shipping goggles, and recognize this for the stride in Children’s media that it is. That being said I’m gonna be reading and writing the fix-it fics along with the rest of you, because fandom and how I enjoy the show can be whatever I want.
The conclusion and why I still love Voltron:
You know what? Yes I felt a little let down by the writing, but Voltron is one of the first fandoms I’ve been so involved in and I have had such wonderful experiences while enjoying this show. I’m never going to let some dissatisfaction ruin this for me. The nice thing about fandom, is I can enjoy my version of the show however I want it, and it doesn’t have to effect how I feel about canon at all. And when I take off my fandom goggles, this season was actually pretty enjoyable.
I encourage anybody who has enjoyed the show up to this point to put your bitterness aside and do what you’ve been doing from the start. Create some content, consume some content, ship what you want, and don’t you dare let anybody ruin this for you. You have good memories with this show, keep them good and move froward.
Peace out my dudes, I’m gonna be hanging out in Sheith hell for at least another 6 months.
It was an honor flying with you all.

Voltron creators not making same shipping mistakes
You know, personally, I was never that interested in Shallura. I loved Klance since first season. I sometimes did not like it being compared to another queer ship but I understood it meant a lot to a lot of people. I liked Klance because fanon and canon structured it pretty well. The way they showed Keith being a lone wolf and Klance being a more people-person was interesting. What I enjoyed, however, is that Lance was not treated as an idiot in the narrative. He could tell off Keith and had done so several times. In S6 he is the first person to realise that Keith looked different as in aged than his former self.
I liked this relationship potential because from what I know from S7 Lance has VERY good reasons to dislike Keith’s behaviour. Keith was very arrogant and did things to get his squad into trouble even when others requested him to care about others in the Garrison. I know he had his own baggage but Keith was being selfish. Add that to the fact, Keith possibly pretended not to recognise Lance.
Now, these are genuine problems BUT in S3 Lance is the first person to understand that Keith is making mistakes as a leader but still respects him as a leader. This should not have happened but the show subtly showed Lance’s maturity in almost every season. Lance is the only person who is able to keep their cool when things are not going well. He done that a lot.
Yes, he may have a crush on Allura but his feelings for Allura or even Keith doesn’t interfere with his role as paladin or his other interactions. Lance is the most well-adjusted person in the group aside Hunk. Yes, he is underestimated because unfortunately people treat him as a comical, lover boy but I think Lance acts like this because ultimately he knows too much tension/stress/pressure is what no one, including his team, doesn’t need. Lance is one of the most dedicated members of Voltron and its coalition despite missing his family like anything.
Now, The reason I talked about Lance is that one good thing about Voltron, the show, is that it shows subtle changes and subtle gestures from characters, to show their maturity levels. Keith is actually very immature. Not that he is not dedicated or capable but he needed some time to grow up, which happened in the quantum abyss. Yet, Keith is a leader or told to be a leader but there is no reason Lance cannot pilot the Black Lion either. If you look at Zarkon, he is also pretty immature. I think the Black Lion feels they cannot teach anything to Lance so they didn’t accept him. Not that he isn’t leader material because we have seen Lance be a leader in several situations.
As Studio Mir and many writers worked on Legend of Korra I think they did not want a shipping war to be happen making fandom really toxic. So, they showed that almost all the characters have great chemistry with one another. In S1 and S3 Klance was very dominant. But S2 and S4 focused a lot on Kallura. Then S1, S4, S5 and S6 also focused on Allurance. Now, the way the ships were presented showed great chemistry but something that can go either way. By doing this, the writers intelligently kept all ships valid to an extent but at the same time decided not to lean towards any bias. It made sense to the narrative as well because Keith goes away in S4 and Lotor plays a pivotal role in S4, S5 and S6.
Now, that Shadam has been introduced I realised how Shallura has been made more valid as a relationship/friendship because of Shadam. If you look at Shallura they are not perfect. S1-S6 shows more understanding towards Shallura as a platonic or romantic relationship. Both Shiro and Allura has made sacrifices for their missions and dreams. Shiro has a disease and he had a long term relationship with Adam. When the opportunity came to expand his horizons, Adam wasn’t being helpful. What Shiro needed at the moment was some support. However, I also understand that Adam is computing the situation in another way. It just ultimately did not work out at that moment because Shiro wants to fulfil his dreams, which are significant dreams. Shiro became a hero and he is a queer man who was chosen by the Black Lion.
Shiro has also suffered a lot with a disease and tried his best to stay alive. Possibly, the Galra were interested in him because he is not perfect but managed to always try to overcome challenges with his limitations. Meaning, he is the ideal candidate for genetic research. Also, a person who can have a bond with the Black Lion. Now, all of these reasons is why Shiro understands Allura a lot. Shiro understands that up until S6 Allura thinks she is one of the only Alteans left in the universe. She feels she has lost her home, her family, her planet and also a place of belonging. Shiro knows how that feels because he lost Adam and he was a war prisoner. Both Shiro and Allura suffered personally the conflicts of war. At the same time, Shiro knows why Allura is frustrated and upset most of the times, especially in S1. When so many things are hinged on you it is really difficult. Shiro knew this too when he was in the Kerberos mission.
If Allura felt like a failed leader I am pretty sure Shiro felt the same things because he felt somewhat responsible for Matt and Samuel Holt for being abducted under his watch. He felt he was supposed to protect them but couldn’t in a same way that Allura felt she failed her cause and her people. Allura also is now learning new powers and a new sense of purpose. Shiro is also learning those things. If Allura is regaining faith in herself and how to trust others, so is Shiro. After all, both of them felt left down by others and also felt they failed themselves.
In S6 we also see Keith grow when he interacts with his mother, Kroalia. This is what he needed because Shiro has limitations towards Keith as well. When Keith says that Kroalia realised how important the mission is we see Kroalia state that she chose her family and that is why she left. After all, Keith and his father were in danger. She didn’t want to lose them. They were too important to her. This reflects how Keith also felt about Shiro as a family member and how he feels about Voltron, and the Blade of Marmora. Keith is very mission oriented but in S6 he realised he could lose everyone he ever loved and he didn’t want that to happen. When leaving in S4 he was actually sad. He was happy he was given the freedom but confused about it. He was willing to give his life in S4 for the other paladins of Voltron until Lotor showed up.
From being very selectively empathetic to mission oriented, Keith is growing up. Now, he can connect with the other members of Voltron better because he got to do what he wanted. This also speaks a lot for Lance, Pidge and Hunk. Lance is the most underestimated member on the team but he is very important because he is truly the backbone of Voltron, if Allura is the heart. Lance seemingly has the least mission oriented focus on the team but he has never personally failed Voltron. Also, Lance was able to pilot two lions, aside Keith. The most stubborn lion is the Red lion and Red chose him and the most calm one is Blue Lion and they also chose him.
Now, S7 and S8 will actually break or make endgame ships for people in canon but that doesn’t mean no one can no longer ship them. For some, like Pidge and Hunk they may remain open. I mean Pidge is a kid and I think they want her to grow up and be with someone outside the team, which is fair and just. Hunk has some connections with Shay that may also become full endgame canon. Now, it is Lance, Keith, Allura, Shiro and Coran who seem to be people with possible romantic interactions that may reach some canon point.
Shiro has to start thinking more about himself than other people, Lance and Allura must own up to their greatness andKeith must apologise to people and grow up outside himself.
All the ships: Shadam, Shallura, Kallura, Allurance, Shieth and Shance are still viable because the narrative has been structured in such a way that all these relationships can be romantic endgames to some extent or very good platonic endgames. Now, it is up to S7 and S8 to show what will happen.

hey I can’t wait to never talk about Voltron ever again so I’m gonna make a compilation of a few if my S8 thoughts here:
-season 8 wasn't great. it was okay, it had it’s good moments, but overall I was unimpressed
-allurance was rushed and I cringed every scene they had. it could just be me but it seemed very forced and they didn’t have any real chemistry?? like lance’s character changed completely and he wasn’t anything other than his love for allura which, in my personal opinion, should have been handled better. I have nothing against allurance, but the writers did a shit job at creating a romantic relationship between them.
-yeah lance seemed really out of character...I mean it could be war trauma I guess but idk that special boy was missing some razzle dazzle
-where the hell was krolia?? did not make sense for her to barely be around idk felt like she would be fighting to be at Keith’s side more.
-axca??? I liked the episode where her and veronica kinda bonded but also I am still confused as to what axca’s motives were. thought she was related to keith in some way especially with her watching krolia and keith at the end of s7 but nvm the writers love to mislead us I guess
-hunk was perfect as always tbh
-the ending was soooo drawn out I lost interest a lot idk seemed like poor writing to me, the plot was just inconsistent and messy and there were a lot of repetitive monologues by the paladins (i.e. keith’s “THE POWER OF TEAMWORK!! speeches)
-tbh allura dying....did not impact me as I thought it would? maybe because the last few episodes fight scenes were so tedious I was just ready for it to be over, I kind of expected her death but it was messed up how they coupled her with lance only to rip her away.
-don’t get me wrong I’m upset she died but like this season made me lose emotional interest in characters for some reason but I did binge watch it in one sitting so my brain is probably fried
-lance’s altean marks...????
-I feel like there were a lot of plot holes but i’m too tired to think of them all so whatever but yeah idk the writing for this season (and the last few...) were not great but it’s a kids show so who am I to critique
-Shiro...I’m glad he found love! Glad this shitstorm of a show ended with a gay kiss/wedding!! but I also felt like it was used to appease those who were angry over adam’s death and the overall lack of promised lgbtq arcs/rep with a quick lil snapshot at the end. BUT it is a big step in the right direction, for an animated dreamworks show to have two men kiss so I will hold back my inner cynic and take this as a win
anyways if u read this lemme know if you agree/disagree with anything I wanna know what other people thought of this season, I’m genuinely curious. scream in the replies the good, the bad, and the ugly.

Okay so after some deep thought and the new voltron books
I am high key confused and very suspicious of dreamworks.
I know this has been said many times before and how people either are vouching klance is gonna be canon or they say it is as dead as my chances are getting a damn date on valentines.
Here is the thing, and yall can totes disregard this bc technically I am biased to Klance, so I could be wrong.
But a big question that has constantly been popping up throughout the most recent seasons is this: If Allurance is meant to become canon, then why is it such an unpopular ship?
Just to disclaim, no hate to Allurance shippers. I wish I were you cause then I wouldn’t be sitting here like a crazy person analyzing a bunch of meta and interviews like it was a psychology assignment.
But the thing is, if a studio has a couple in mind, they usually make it very clear that this couple is meant to get together. They hype it up. Or confirm their love interest. Market it as the power couple to rule the show. We have seen this with many shows. For instance, Robin and Starfire from teen titans. Hanna and Caleb from Pretty Little Liars. Aang and Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender. Jace and clary from the Mortal instruments, and Aelin and Rowan from Throne of Glass.
It just. There is a line that doesn’t make sense. Technically throne of glass didn’t have a confirmed couple until book 3, but that was after the author stated the canon couple will be made clear in book 3, Heir of Fire. She led us on a goose chase, but made sure to let us know when the canon couple will indeed become canon, because here the star of the books had not two, but 3 potential lovers. But she still alluded to the other ships who are not canon as not being a thing. After rereading it, you see the signs. And the author, despite leading us on a goose chase, did a good job of convincing us of that relationship rather than the others we were hell bent on believing in.
But here in Voltron, the lines don’t add up.
Say Allurance becomes canon in the eighth season. Klance is dead. The heteros win.
But while there would be cheering for the couple finally being a thing after seven whole ass seasons, you can’t deny the portion of those supporters are very small compared to not only Klance shippers, but also shippers of different fandoms. the canon couples from what I’ve seen had a large following. Even I, a big Dorian and Aelin shipper since book one of Throne of Glass, began to like Rowan and Aelin together. The writing is meant to convince you. The author(s) goals is to convince you, and make it into either a marketing scheme or a huge breakthrough in the idea of love after giving us breadcrumbs for so long.
Why make a couple with such a small following, intense discourse, and claims of bad writing be made canon? Why would an author settle for less rather than for what is chemistry; what feels right?
Which is Klance, because they had the most development and have a huge ass following right besides Sheith. Heck to me, who doesn’t really like the Sheith ship, sees better chemistry between them than Allurance.
So why on earth settle for less? It is very foreign for a writer to do and while there is always room for new things, I can’t find the line connecting point A to point B. These books, the show, the vague answers from the staff, writers, and VAs. There is so much contradiction and lack of following a basic formula I wonder what the intentions are.
“Well they could have planned Klance from the beginning but had to change it last minute because the studio changed their minds/ didn’t green light it.”
No no no. That also doesn’t make sense, because like Lauren said, you can’t simply go back and change the story. You can’t do all this work and then suddenly be told “no you have to change it” and scrap the entire thing. They had to go into this carefully for their vision. Like they said, they had to fight. Adashi was last minute and can be the kryptonite to my thinking, but the only reason why I see them changing their initial relationship is because adam didn’t have a part since season 1 like the others. He, in the outline and overall idea, was destined to die. Therefore they had more of a liberty to change lines and alter relationships because of how little content was put out with him and Shiro. But there is a shit ton of content with Klance, even from season 7. So if they had to scrap it, why not scrap the part with Lance saying Keith is the future and make, I don’t know, Hunk choose keith and change his lines? It would be a small correction, like Adam and Shiro’s lines were. Why not scrap the pool scene, the two red and blue stars, the “roger that team leader” as they are being chased by zethrid’s and Ezor’s goons? Why have Lance’s hurtful words refer to Keith leaving, rather than something meaner and more generic, like “Shiro had always been a better leader than you” or “Allura actually cares about the team, unlike you.” Why make it about him leaving and therefore alluding to how Lance felt Keith ran away?
There is so much they could have fixed to really kill klance, probs spanning all the way back into season 4 or 5.
If they weren’t given a green light, WHY DIDN’T THEY CHANGE THE INTIMATE LINES AND CERTAIN LOOKS AND MAKE LANCE’S BOOK COME OUT WITH ALLURA’S AND TELL THE ILLUSTRATOR TO CUT OUT THIS AND THAT AND WHY MENTION PAST INTERACTIONS IN SAID BOOKS WHEN THEY COULD HAVE BEEN EASILY EDITED OUT.
Is this just me? Am I making sense? I hope I am but yeah those are my thoughts.
