first, i'm really happy to hear about your insurance!! im wishing you alllll the best!🫶

second, im nervous about the state of the world right now, so i'm bringing a little distraction in the form of a rtte time-travel au i've been thinking of👀

so, i don't know from what point Hiccup would travel back in time, i'm doubting between the end of rtte or from httyd 2, but something goes BIG wrong and he dies, and then wakes up back in his body at the start of rtte. he doesn't understand what happened until the twins bust in with Johann between them, who tells him Dagur escaped—the gods have basically given him a second chance! (and for my own joy, Toothless traveled with him<3).

he makes his inventions early, upgrades the tail to the newer model, and plans out his steps with the knowledge of the future he has. he struggles with it at first, seeing Dagur like his old self again instead of the friend he became, knowing of the war that comes. but he's older now, and even if he doesn't want to think about it, Viggo did teach him a lot, and he's using that to his favor. first of all: he makes sure Dagur never finds out about the Dragon Eye. he hides it in his saddlebag before they come out of the Reaper. it's a big part of why the hunters and the riders fought, after all, it's better if everyone thinks it's still gone (im torn between Hiccup keeping it a secret from his friends too, for extra angst, or if he, because he's older, knows they work best as a team).

also, speaking of Viggo, Hiccup would 100% take the chance to rile Viggo up, to cut into his operations, stalking hunter ships before they even know he exists. but he wants to do it differently, this time. he knows that Viggo can be changed, so he needs to build this relation carefully. he frees dragons, of course, but he tries to keep damage to a minimum, and, for the kicker: he leaves the maces and talons "dragon" piece in the empty cells after raiding them. gotta make sure Viggo knows he plays!

anyway, yeah, i have a ton of ideas but i just wanted to share them and see what you think! (i just love time travel aus hihi)

And omg, just… waking up in his younger body must be a shock. There are probably scars that he had that are no longer there! (That would be so angsty.)

This whole concept is so awesome! I love the idea of him taunting Viggo while also wanting to try to make peace with him.

Hiccup has so much more knowledge of the world now and how things turn out, that I wonder if he ever feels overwhelmed, like he has to fix everything that went wrong in his eyes.

Sorryyy I'm not writing a fic (I never write the fic rip) but anyone totally could??? Feel free to! I still wanna talk about this idea though! So let's say everything remains the same, except Hiccup and Toothless' respective injuries are reversed!

I'll say it is likely going to take Toothless longer to find empathy for Hiccup than it was the other way round, because Toothless has a different, more aloof character. The emotions have got to be more ramped up than the dragon's soundless desperation which originally prompted Hiccup to save Toothless' life.

Hiccup has got to be loud. He's not going out like that.

Would he scream for help? I don't know. Let's say he knows that no one will hear him from the distance of Berk's village. Also, the dragon might hear him and come back to finish the job. So no initial screaming here, just a lot of complaining and talking to himself.

But let's say during the skirmish where Hiccup and Toothless ran into each other and fought... say, Toothless fired a plasma blast and it hit some flammable wood in the cove and it created a coal fire. Hiccup is going to want to use that to cauterize his wound (sorry for being so graphic). And then there's gonna be some screaming. That can draw Toothless back in to check on what the heck happened to that human.

Hiccup may have recovered his knife, mayyybe he is even in possession of his shield. He'll hide in the crevices of some rocks that Toothless can't dig into and build a fort for defense.

He'll have to leave the fort for food and water though. I personally headcanon that Hiccup is actually quite skilled at fishing, the fact just never came up during the movies haha! Still, he'll be sooo slow and in sooo much pain and he's terrified that the dragon will spot him and finally kill him this time around. Toothless, observing the clumsy human's efforts to stay alive, now has the chance to earn his trust by catching fish for him, by ripping out entire bushes of berries (Hiccup'll eat the berries and use the sticks for firewood), by keeping him warm with his fire beams, and providing buckets of water somehow.

I want a scene in the pouring rain where Toothless is shielding Hiccup with his wings.

...Well, you know the deal, they become the unlikeliest of friends and then, at some point, Toothless has to decide to return Hiccup to his village, walking into a certain death trap for himself. Yep. Very yep.

I know there are stories like this out there but I want it with them.

Reverse Httyd where Toothless bites/rips off Hiccup's leg at the start of the movie. Hiccup then falls into the cove and is trapped there, or maybe he already was in the cove from the struggle during the dragon attack, but... he can't get out. And he is like actively dying from the blood loss, the pain, possible infection, exposure.

He hasn't got long. No one finds him, it's so deeply in the woods.

It's Toothless who has to decide to nurse Hiccup back to health/bring him back to his people, but it's Hiccup so he'll somehow still put up a fight against his deadly dragon enemy. Toothless is gonna have to earn this scrawny and injured human's trust.

It happened spontaneously, but I love AU. So… Avatar Hiccup. Hiccup considered himself an ordinary person before meeting Toothless. (Dragons can be equated to spirits, i mean relationships between people and them). Then he discovered his talent as an airbender and Toothless became his teacher. Later, other talents were discovered, which made it clear that Hiccup was an avatar.

Astrid became his waterbender teacher. Snotlout was an adept of firebender, but he sincerely did not understand how to teach, because he himself used magic on a subconscious level. Fishlegs is an earthbender, but he did not go beyond the amateur level and could not become a teacher. The twins are always on their own wave. Ruffnut is a master in airbending and can perform techniques with clouds of gas, while Tuffnut is not a master, but is ready to set fire to the gas with his sparks at any moment. The twins always come in a set.

Brothers Grimborn! Lord of Fire Viggo. The aesthetics of blue flame and lightning were created for him. So I couldn't resist. The hottest flame and deadly techniques of lightningbending made him the most terrible opponent for the young avatar, but in the future, he will become the teacher of fire magic for Hiccup. I endowed Riker with explosion magic, as for me, it suits him perfectly. An explosive mixture of rage and bloodlust.

Berserkers! Remembering Viggo's words about how the berserkers in ancient times lured the Skrills with metal, I thought about a tribe practicing metalbending. Dagur discovered his talent for earth magic much later, including metal. I like to think that Dagur could be a threat to the avatar even as an ordinary person, relying on his ingenuity and physical strength. Heather is a master of earth and metal magic, she could well become Hiccup's teacher in this matter.

Huge HTTYD Fan Geek Part 4

Finally got a design down for the actual Isle Of Night itself.

The isle is surrounded by fog and sharp rocks so without being able hitch a ride on the back of a dragon or being a dragon yourself it’s extremely difficult to even get close to it. The topside of the isle is covered in dirt and grass, and has sharp rocks running down it which gives them the appearance of back spines. Because of the amount of rain that falls in the area a dip has formed at the ‘snout’ of the isle, which has created a waterfall and two small rivers. There is also a ring of cliff and beach which circles the isle.

Humans who do make it close enough will likely see it through fog and will more often than not mistake the shape of it for a huge sea dragon and be scared away by it’s appearance. And if even that doesn’t scare people away there are Night Furies perched on the sea stacks as look-outs, ready to defend if anyone hostile makes it through.

Once inside there are three main caverns, the Den, the Hatchery and the Healing Den. The Den is where the vast majority of the flock sleep. They gather grasses from the isle and the other small surrounding islands and make nests next to the stalagmites on the ground, which they can heat up with their plasma blasts to warm up. Some prefer to sleep on the ground whilst others hang from the stalactites on the ceiling.

The Hatchery is the deepest cavern in the isle where it is the safest and best hidden. It is inhabited by parents and their hatchlings, who stay there until the hatchling has learnt to fly on their own or can get around without a lot of help. A huge broken stalagmite is used as a fire pit which passing dragons will drop kindling into to keep it burning. It helps to incubate the eggs and keep hatchlings warm.

The Healing Den has a connecting tunnel to the Den and is a place where sick and injured dragons can rest and get the care they need from other furies. The cavern is split down the middle between injured and sick dragons, so there’s a lesser chance an injured dragon could catch something from an ill one. There is also a fire pit in this cavern to warm up dragons who can’t regulate their own body temperatures properly. There is a very shallow pool in the Healing Den where small amounts of water run off of the stalactites and drip which gives the weaker dragons easier access to water.

There are some Light Furies that live on the isle with the Night Furies but the Night Furies make up the vast majority of residents in the isle.
