So when baby number two came around it was less of shock, Hiccup was still mildly convinced conceiving her son so easily was a fluke, and yet, here was was with a one year old son and another in her belly. Hiccup's family has always had fertility issues. Dagur's did not.
Dagur was always thrilled when they were getting a new member of the family. I imagine of the two, Dagur had a stronger parental instinct, and was very nurturing. It was almost like he was able to channel his more violent impulses to something more productive. Mostly true. It's been shown to be the case in the show that once you find yourself in his affections, he does everything in his power to protect. Dagur of course does everything in his power to make Hiccups' pregnancies easier, drawing baths, feeding her cravings etc. Dagur desperately wanted a daughter, a daughter he could raise to be a great warrior. He's gotten lucky, baby two was little Sigrid, a great warrior with a gentle heart.
This was actually somewhat based on my late grandfather. My grandfather had two brothers and two sons, so when he got three granddaughters, he was ecstatic. The three of us could do no wrong.
To be clear Hiccup is not upset she's pregnant per say. She was happy to have another addition to the family. But being pregnant means she can't go jumping off cliff to test flight suits, ride Toothless into unknown territory for dragon research or work in the forge. It just means she can't be the feral little gremlin she is at heart. Hiccup struggled more with the role of parent, not helped by how easily to seemed to come to her husband. It seemed supremely unfair how naturally fatherhood came to a borderline madman.
Also she finds Dagur's doting, both annoying and embarrassing.
And kind of sweet.

Whispering Woods
Pairing: Hiccup 'Horrendous’ Haddock III x Fem!Reader
Wordcount: 1k
Summary: When the world gets too much for you, you have the tendency to 'run' away sometimes. This time you and your dragon don't get the peace and quiet that comes with it for too long as it seems you have an admirer waiting to make their presence known.
Bingo: @eclipsingbingo with the square 'Hand Kisses'
(Y/N): Your name
(D/N): Dragon's name
(D/S): Dragon species
(W/C): Weapon of choice
*Gif does not belong to me
It wasn't unusual for you to take a break from Berk every once in a while. Hopping on (D/N)'s back and flying off without a word to anyone else on the island. You knew it wasn't the smartest thing to do, not when Drago Bloodyfist or whatever Hiccup had called him recently attempted to take control of all of Berk's dragons, but you couldn't help yourself. There was nothing better the disappearing for a few hours with nothing but the wind in your hair, your (D/S) under you and the quietness that came with it.
The only repercussions for disappearing that you've ever gotten were some annoyed friends or a worried Hiccup, which you could say was one of the worse options since he tended to fret when you returned. Though anything was better than a mad Hiccup when you accidentally disappeared for three days and came back to half of Bekr looking for you since Hiccup had gotten worried enough to start a search party.
That's how you found yourself where you were now, surrounded by the quietness of a forest on some random island not too far away from Berk. The flight over had only taken twenty minutes as you and (D/N) took your time flying there.
(D/N) had slunk off not too long ago, making her own way through the forest as she explored, leaving you to your thoughts as you trailed after her, not trying very hard to keep up.
Berk had been hectic recently. Hiccup found his mum, Berk was attacked, you almost lost (D/N), and Stoick died... It was a lot to happen in the span of a few days, closer to a few hours if you don't count Hiccup's extended absence.
This island had seen worse for wear but there was still a lot of work that had to be done. Which you should be doing now but too many people were asking too much of you. You had also been avoiding meeting Hiccup's mum as the two of you had spared only a few words to one another when in the heat of battle.
It was a lot to think of all at once, so you found yourself off the island quicker than the Twins could say boar pit.
Being out here was doing wonders for your mind; calming you down and making it easier to think of nothing at all. It was all you could hope for, even if you knew you would have to head back soon unless you wanted Hiccup to deem this as another one of your escape attempts.
It was only when the forest got quieter than normal did you felt the need to come back to your senses, an actual need to be alert instead of walking around aimlessly as if you were on autopilot.
The soft thumping of (D/N)'s feet from ahead had stopped, along with the birds hidden in trees. The only noise that passed through was the rustling of leaves as a steady breeze glided through the woods. Your hand was itching down to grasp onto the small blade you had strapped to your belt, your (W/C) left on the saddle that (D/N) had run off with.
Before you had the chance to do anything though, a set of hands were slipping around your waist, tugging you back and into someone's chest softly. Years of Viking training were already kicking in as you raised an elbow, ready to dig it back with a low aim when someone caught onto your arm, stopping it in its motion.
"Hey," You struggled to get out, still trying to land a hit on the person behind you and push yourself away, attempting anything that would set you free.
"Calm down," A familiar voice laughed out, surprising you into stillness as your brain realised who it was. At your sudden stop, you were whirled around by the person who had disturbed you, being met with a bright smile and a deep set of green eyes as they bore into you. "I was wondering when you'd notice it was me."
"Hiccup," You deadpan, watching as the taller boy slowly pulled you closer, setting one of his hands on your waist without the hassle of a fight from you trying to dislodge it.
"(Y/N)," He copied, raising one of your hands with his free ones and bringing it up to his face, setting a soft brush of his lips on the back of it in the form of an extended greeting. You watched the motion with warm eyes, the annoyance that had crept up your spine dying down a bit.
"How long have you been here?" You questioned once your fingers got interlocked with his, not going to deny the soft touches as the both of your hands were brought down.
"Not long," Hiccup commented. Standing in front of you, Hiccup seemed like he didn't have a care in the world, reminding you of what you had left behind on Berk and how Hiccup himself could bring this feeling out of you. "Toothless saw you and (D/N) fly off not long ago and wanted to bring me to you so that he could play with them."
"Mm," You hummed, bringing your linked hands back up. For a short moment where your hands stayed hovering in the air, your lashes fluttering at Hiccup, you took him in, the small smile on your face expressing more words than you wanted to at the moment. Laying a kiss on the back of his hand, you murmur, "We better go find them then and make sure they don't get into too much trouble."

Hello! I hope your having a good day, I wanted to request a hiccup x fem! Reader who has a female night fury , sorry if this is too vague
No problem! I gotchu lol
ORPHIC
Pairing: Hiccup x Fem!Reader
Synopsis: Hiccup thought Toothless was truly the last night fury, but discovered otherwise, and found a possible future along with it.
Timeline: Before HTTYD 2
—
—
“Toothless! Where are you, bud?” Hiccup called. In response, the dragon’s head popped out from behind a large boulder, his tongue flicking out of his mouth.
“There you are, now we have to go meet up with Astrid,” He told the night fury. Toothless rolled his eyes and grumbled, turning away from his trainer.
“I- don’t be like that, Toothless! It won’t take long…” Hiccup reasoned. Begrudgingly, Toothless made his way back to the brunette and let him climb on.
—
A scent in the air caught Toothless’s attention. Swerving away from the original destination, he surged over the ocean, his trainer desperately clinging to the saddle.
“Toothless! Stop!” The man frantically yelled, but the dragon paid no mind. Continuing on his path, an island slowly appeared in the distance. The night fury eventually slowed his pace, flying at a leisurely pace before landing gently on the ground.
Hiccup stumbled off and away from his dragon, glaring all the while. He looked around the island, taking in the scenery. A waterfall cascaded into a beautiful blue lake, tropical flowers surrounding the water body. The lush grass rippled in the wind like waves, and towering trees ascended towards the sky, harboring various animals and plants. The sun peeked through various locations in the canopy, providing a sun-speckled effect. The call of various birds resounded throughout the forest.
What caught Hiccup and Toothless’s attention, however, was the screech of a familiar dragon. A sound that only one dragon had been heard making.
“A… night fury?” Hiccup asked, in awe. Toothless happily shoved Hiccup to the source of the noise, urging him to investigate.
The duo jogged to a clearing, where they stumbled upon a sight they thought wouldn’t be possible. A night fury slept on the lap of a girl, around Hiccup’s age.
“Woah…” Hiccup breathed. In his haste to get closer, Toothless stepped on a twig, snapping the wood. The woman and dragon snapped their heads towards the two boys, scanning the shadows.
Hiccup stepped into the clearing slowly, Toothless following behind anxiously. The woman and dragon shifted into defensive stances, and Hiccup raised his hands in surrender.
“Woah, I’m not here to hurt you,” Hiccup reassured.
She rolled her eyes. “I’ve heard it all.”
“No, really. H-here, Toothless, come out.” He beckoned his dragon forward, and Toothless stepped forward.
The woman’s eyes widened, and so did her dragon’s. Tentatively, the woman relaxed and urged her dragon forward.
The two night furies met in the middle, sniffing each other carefully. Suddenly, the mysterious woman’s dragon pounced forward, and the two rolled around the clearing happily.
Hiccup turned to her, smiling, and was met with the woman raising her eyebrow. Her face relaxed, and she smiled softly,
A red tint covered Hiccup’s cheeks, and he turned away quickly. He could hear the woman chuckling beside him.
“The name’s (name),” She said.
“I-I’m Hiccup,” He cringed at his stutter, but (name) paid no attention to it.
“U-uhm… would you like to- Gods, I mean- would you like to come back to Berk with me?” The man asked nervously.
(Name) shook her head. “I don’t think she should be shown to the world just yet,” she referred to her dragon.
“What’s her name?” Hiccup questioned.
“Her name is Orphic,” (name) told him.
“Beautiful name…” Hiccup trailed off. Not as beautiful as you though, He thought
“Thanks,” (name) said from beside him, and his face erupted in red after the realization that she heard him.
“You’re welcome to… y’know, come back here sometime,” (name) invited nervously, suddenly looking down while a faint blush coated her cheeks. (If you can’t blush, or the color of your blush is different, then ignore the previous sentence and replace it with “her face was warm” or smth else ^^)
“Yeah, I think I will,” Hiccup replied and smiled at the woman.
In that moment, with the greenery in the background and the sun shining down on her and illuminating her eyes, Hiccup realized that he found the woman he wanted to be with.

ᴀ ʀᴜʟᴇ ᴏꜰ ᴀꜱʜ & ꜱᴛᴏʀᴍ ───── ♛
pairing: evil!hiccup x f!mute!reader
wc: 1.7k
tw: yandere, implied kidnapping, obsessive/possessive behavior, mention of blood/violence, mention of death
synopsis: You regretted the day they left him for dead. And you’d regret the day you ever saw him again—he’d make sure of that.
A gleam of orange blazed in the bleakness of night.
You watched from your hilltop window—the thatched roofs off the eastern slopes of Berk twisting and writhing in flames. Even from a distance, you heard the breaking moans of ceilings, the cracks and bends of collapsing wooden structures, and the piercing wails of scales met with sharp edges of iron. Despite The Red Death’s fall, dragon raids still plagued the lands.
Perhaps it was all a sign of retribution.
You were told to stay within the safe confines of your home. Your father hadn’t wanted to risk your life, considering how precious you’d become. The next Seer in line after Gothi, gifted with spiritual wisdom, healing, and authority of officiating the next chief.
But the price to pay had been steep.
The house was dark, not even the smallest candle lit. Nothing that would draw a glimmer of attention to the home. A creak ached the roof above, and you flitted your nose up to the rafters, drawing lines across the ceiling. Nothing but your shallow breaths filled the silent dark.
The hearth then erupted with flame and spark, jolting you from back to neck bone. Had you any voice, a strangled scream would’ve ripped from your throat. Twisting, you had almost forgotten to breathe. A figure shrouded in shadow and leather stood beside the crackling firewood. Light and dark danced in an undulating battle across the strangers’ features–revealing a horrifying familiarity.
“Hope you don’t mind if I warm this place up a bit.” That voice, boy-ish in tone, lacked any hint of innocence or niceties. He stretched a gloved hand towards the licking flames, doing nothing to warm the ice coating his insides. “Couldn’t help but notice you looked a little cold and...alone.”
A snap of wood made you flinch; addressing him with quivering lips and dilated eyes. Your long-lost greeting didn’t forebode well.
Every piece of leather tightened around his body as he shifted. Turning to ensnare you within his talon like stare. When embers casted a sheen across his face, you braced against the sight. Soft features long since abandoned, reforged into a visage of cold iron. Carved and littered with scars and nicks across his furrowed brows, cheeks, and clenched jaw line.
“Well, this is kind of embarrassing. Wait, no. That’s not the word I was looking for. More like—disappointing. That sounds like a better fit. For you and everyone else here.” Hiccup stalked forward, a contraption of metal clanking and scratching against the splintering floors. Each step clanged through you, until he stood one heartbeat away. “After all these years, I’d thought you’d have a bit more to say than a blank stare. Every night, I dreamed about how this conversation would go. Just like how I dreamed things could be better than what they were. Funny how you can plan for things to go a certain way, but then…”
He pressed his hands at each side of your head, the glass window behind begging to crack from the pressure. His scent permeated, forcing you to swallow. Once smelling of spring honey and rolling glades, now sundered to singe your senses like bone ash and lightning storms.
“Looks like I’m not the only one who’s a little different.” He placed a calloused finger into the dip of your clavicle. He dug and dug until your pained gasp fell deaf to his ears. Tilting his head, he curled the lip of his mouth. “So, just like Gothi, you gave up your voice. Good—great, actually. This works out better for me.”
The smile that crept over his lips never made it up to his eyes. Not like before. Those vibrant meadows sullied into a sickly, muddled green. Thick and ichorous. And dared you stare long enough, you could never trudge your way out. Although you already felt stuck within them, your hand slipped silently into the pocket of your dress, where your fingers brushed against the hilt of a dagger.
You drew it a mere inch before his hand captured yours, twisting until he pried it into his possession.
“Come on. We both know you were never good at fighting.” He chuckled, wagging the sharpest point between your trembling eyes. “I’ll admit it. I wasn’t either back then. That’s something we had in common…until I had to be. Guess that didn’t work out in anyone’s favor on this wet piece of rock. Now, did it?”
Your vision blurred. Screams of the village roared in your ears. Screeches of dragons pierced through the air, engulfed in smoke and fire. Having consumed so much in its wake, you felt the heat of chaos leech into the glass. Searing your back pressed against it.
“Woah. Hey, don’t cry. It’s fine. Don’t worry about it,” he swept a rough thumb over a falling tear stain. “Not all of them will die tonight. I mean, just think about it for a second. Can’t be chief and rule over a bunch of burnt corpses. How counterintuitive would that be?”
“As for you though…” he continued, and your heart stalled as he traced the cold metal down your flush cheek and neck, pausing just above your breastbone. “I’m only standing here, watching everything and everyone turn to ash around us, all because of you. And don't tell me you don't remember. When you mended my leg. Somehow kept me from bleeding out. Just before the entire village abandoned me.” His clouded eyes narrowed down. “Including you.”
Releasing you from his pinning weight, your legs wobbled. As if he hadn’t just snatched your foothold underneath. Terror kept your feet webbed in place, watching as he twirled your dagger in his fingers like a child's play thing. Crouching near the fire, he mindlessly poked and prodded at the stoking wood. He picked away a scrap of charred chipping, before plunging the blade into the flank of the burning log. You gazed at him, chest tight, aching. How he hadn’t flinched when the fire slicked around his hand like oil.
He dragged the smoldering stump from the hearth, creating a scorched line. When the licks of fire seeped into the house floors, he rose, one vertebra at a time.
“If I’m being honest, I probably would’ve done the same thing.” He unhooked a masked contraption from his belt buckle and tightened it over his face. The eye sockets were of yellow stained sea glass, and the mouth of it appeared like a muzzle of iron teeth. “Leave something already weak, then crippled to survive on its own. Gambling on the high-stakes of death. So sure of the outcome, no one bothered to turn over a shoulder.” Hellfire rose and swelled in the reflection of his mask. “Maybe they should’ve.”
The rapid hunger of the hearth fire blazed and curled across the floor of the home. Heat lapped towards your skin, drawing out sweat from your pores. Dense smoke began filling the wooden death chamber. You inhaled the black snowflakes, searing your lungs once they melted inside you. You slapped a hard hand over your mouth, coughing and shuddering against it. A pang of panic willed your body to move. You attempted to open the window behind you, but to your horror, it had been welded to the frame.
Your eyes watered, hugging the wall as you traced it to the door. When the handle clattered against your pulls and tugs, a ghostly laugh floated around you. The metal was bolted shut from the outside. A bout of nausea cramped your stomach. Fear darted your eyes toward the stairs, where the flames hadn’t yet reached—but soon. Perhaps the window of your room hadn’t been tampered with.
You darted towards the steps, and before you could place one foot up, a black beast stalked from the darkness of the second floor.
The floating embers danced hauntingly over the onyx scales, and gashes rippled in the firelight. Revealing wounds healed twice, perhaps three times over. That body of night perfectly reflected it's master’s outward appearance.
And as you drowned in those feral slits of pure abandon, it was apparent they also shared the same broken, unmendable soul.
“Oh. You remember Toothless, don’t you?” Your face paled, backing slowly as the Nightfury slithered down the steps like black ink. A predatory growl rumbled above the snapping and collapsing wood around you. Hiccup sauntered to the dragon’s side, patting the thick of his neck, pulsing with power. Another laugh at your expense. “Looks like he remembers you.”
You fought the claw of unconsciousness raking over every part of you. Choking, straining against your hand pathetically covering your mouth.
“Since you did me a favor back then, I’m going to give you one chance to make it up to me.” The mask muffled his voice, but the wickedness screamed, rattling your veins. “You can either choose to stay here and burn with the rest of Berk or…” he lifted a hand, hardly an invitation, but a devilish bargain. “You can choose me.”
In the thick of your pounding head and chest, you considered burning to death was the wiser option of the two. All that he was—what he’d inevitably become—held no promise of a life worth degrading yourself for. Nothing about you would be spared. And it wouldn’t be long till you dropped on hands and knees, begging for him to take your life. To end his drawn out game of torture. One he’d carefully crafted for years and years.
Just for you, only for you.
Still, you clung to life. A measly mortal thread. Your shaking hand lifted, painfully reaching for his fingertips. One step forward, and the world spun in wisps of red and black. Your lungs and heart throbbed, practically seizing. A calculated arm caught you, cradling you wholly, close as any lover would.
“Good choice.”
You heard the waning words of approval, and through the fading light of your vision, something fastened over your face. Your last conscious breath had been clean, airy—a pleasant contrast to the toxic fumes.
Then, nothing.

would love to request a "friends to lovers" story between Hiccup and the reader.
They could have been friends since childhood, but I’m not sure what you think about the idea where, as they grow up, it becomes completely normal for them to hold hands or even share more intimate moments, like a kiss. (Don’t let it show how much I love this dynamic).
I’d love to see how you would develop this story (only if you feel like it, of course). I seriously ADORE your writing! Blessings and kisses, MUAK! ❤💗
One of These Days
Pairing: Hiccup Horrendous Haddock III x Fem!Reader
Words: 3,740
You didn’t know when it started; maybe it had been when he’d smiled at you for the first time, or he’d held your hand, or leaned his head over yours.
Tags: httyd 1, httyd 2, friends to lovers
It was growing darker outside.
Frigid air licked at the frame of your back, slithering and scraping past cracks in the walls and shutters. It tasted just as cool as it smelt.
You didn’t know when it started, nor were you sure how to feel about it, what with that odd thing sitting between the two of you. You could tell he expected something, what with the way he often shuffled closer than was necessary and fumbled over his own words in an effort to impress.
“Pass me the hammer?” He asked you without looking, lanky shoulders square, hands pressed against parchment, fingers sliding absentmindedly over scrawled-out charcoal and past thick-handled tools.
You snuffled, blinking from where you sat just beside him.
It was just to the right of you on one slightly uneven workbench, closer to the forge’s main window than away. You grabbed at it with slightly wobbly fingers, grimacing as it nearly fell from your hands.
At twelve winters, you still had some time left before you’d really be expected to bloody your hands, and by bloody your hands, you meant to be able to take down a full-grown dragon on your own.’ Of course, most children by now had done their fair share of slaughtering, both animals and otherwise, but none had been able to make it during a raid without help. While you hadn’t done any of it, putting you sorely behind, you were still fine.
For Hiccup, son of Stoick the Vast, feared dragon-killer, the deadlines were a little bit tighter.
You placed the hammer firmly, determinedly into Hiccup’s open palm, the tips of your fingers dragging against slightly sweaty skin.
Gobber had been generous enough to let you in. He didn’t often or ever stop the two of you from doing things. Even still, this was the first time you’d been invited into the forge, and he hadn’t said anything.
Hiccup had also been generous enough to invite you in. You hadn’t quite recognized the invitation for what it was, nor did you think Hiccup did, either. Really, the experience was proving to be rather close. It was the first time you’d ever seen him so enraptured in his work, though, to be fair, you hadn’t known him for long. He’d hardly talked about it.
You doubted he’d told anyone else- it was going to be a larger machine. He definitely didn’t have everything he needed to make it. Not the wood, which would make up a frame large enough to swarf half your body, or all the metals and ores he’d need to make all the levers and rods.
He wasn’t wearing any fur coat, just an apron and his green tunic. He scribbled notes down like the world might be swallowed if he didn’t. You could tell he’d never done that before- made such detailed instructions, thought up such an elaborate contraction.
You liked him happy. You’d seen him frustrated and you thought that was alright too, puzzling over his own work, tongue peeking out slightly from between two teeth, not comically. It was more a subtle, awkward thing.
With his back to you, he worked with a dedicated, single-minded focus, almost tireless. He worked from the moment he sat down to the moment he finished his task with a passion usually only meant for the battlefield, spotted in the eyes of the hungry past floating ashes and spraying gore. It was a passion that said that nothing had ever come natural to him.
He taught himself how to try.
You thought that he must be daring, more than any Viking warrior.
Maybe he wasn’t yet a man, but you could see the shadow of the man he would be-mature, confident, skilled, focused. The way he worked in the forge- his need to shoot down a dragon paled in comparison.
You wondered if anyone else would ever get to see him the way you did, red-and-orange firelight warming his cheeks.
He caught you looking and he smiled, something almost half-toothless and completely crooked, revealing brown-auburn hair made to glow in the light of the fires, spotted gaps in rows of teeth, freckles dusting over a nose’s bridge like speckles on bird’s feathers.
He spoke almost hesitantly, confusedly, as if he’d just realized he’d forgotten to respond, and hadn’t realized it was that important, or that you would have been expecting it, though that didn’t matter to you, because he’d hardly needed to, “Thanks.”
Even unsure, he was much more at home here than out in the open world.
You felt your head perk, shoulders dropping as a soft, gawky thing curled and writhed bashfully in your stomach, not unlike the way a worm reveled in soft, blooming dirt.
Wow.
It hadn’t occurred to you that during all of a fortnight, you hadn’t seen him smile. Now that you’d seen it, you weren’t sure how you’d ever lived without it.
You thought you could feel the heat radiating from his body as you shuffled closer to him, your fingers curling around his bicep, slightly damp through thick cloth. Your legs were nearly brushing then, leather smock teasing against cloth trouser as you pondered what it might feel like to be handed back soft, honeyed flowers by those very same sooted hands.
You shifted, the grass beneath you wet, dew clinging to the sides of your skirt like a few shiny glass beads. You felt the warm sun against your face, tickling against small hairs and soft skin. Your journal was to your front, scratched up leather cover pressed to your hands, a charcoal stick laying abandoned across empty parchment.
Nearby was a trickling stream, water weaving past water, spraying hollowly against rocks and moss- you could have likened it to yourself and the feeling in your soul, knotting up your chest and mixing up all kinds of squishy insides.
The last you’d seen, Hiccup had been walking. Now, he was nearly falling over himself, legs jerking as his saddle’s straps and reins restricted the movement of his ankles. His shouts echoed around the whole cove, sound bouncing off cold, stone-basin walls.
His dragon slunk off in the distance, still apprehensive and avoidant. It hadn’t quite gotten used to you yet, which was fine, because you were alright with keeping your distance.
Even after you’d had your hand on its slightly-sticky snout, whenever you saw it, you thought of wide, razor-sharp maws and torsos torn from small bodies. A dragon was always going to be a dragon and they were very much deadly creatures- his reassurances of the fact that the Night Fury was just as harmless as any man did you no favors. After all, the only creatures as deadly as a dragon were, in fact, bears… and men. It made you nervous.
It had large, slitted serpent’s eyes, though its scales were flatter and its skin more leathery than warted or slimy as you’d expected from such a fearsome beast. Its face was oddly symmetrical and squat in an abhorrently off-putting way, its horns or fins or whatever else that came sproutings from its skull sort of floppy and bashful and sort of too-big and not-grown-into-yet, just like it’s bulky, soft-looking paws, sort of like Hiccup.
“T-Toothless!” Hiccup practically yowled, distressed and scolding as he fell over, face-planting into dirt and short grass, half helped-along by the wet nose of his dragon. The difference- you felt almost enraptured by it.
He was awful and very often sort of standoffish and sarcastic though not often crude. He was picky and sort of insensitive and he often trampled over boundaries like he was dancing hand-in-hand with trouble, except he didn’t know how to dance, and the hall’s fires hadn’t been lit in a while- not for a celebration, at the very least.
In that moment, though, you remembered the way it felt to have his folded knuckle digging slightly into your shoulders as he nudged against you distractedly, just out of view behind the wooden barricade as he was scolded by Gobber. There was something about it that you thought might be either meaningful or accidental that turned over something in your stomach, most particularly because -and not in spite of- the fact that it had come from such a scrawny, lanky, often very, very clumsy-footed boy.
The way he’d seemed, looking off reminded you of his father a little bit. You saw it, really- all the good and awful parts of the Chief that he’d most definitely inherited, even when most others couldn’t see it. You were scared of it somewhat; of how confident it made him, how distracted and sort of brave-like he could be, even if it only ever ended up making things work for the worst.
Past all your yearning, aching, wanting, and needing-to-have-ings, it scared you just as much as you thought you could watch forever. Did he ever feel the same way about you?
You hadn’t noticed as Hiccup had untangled himself from his trappings. He must have though, and quickly, as during the time you’d spent thinking, he’d walked up close enough to you to cast a long shadow over your face, pulling you out of your own reverie.
You blinked aimlessly as he settled down next to you. You spoke hesitantly, “So, uhm, how did the saddle…?”
“He didn’t let me put it on.” Hiccup grumbled petulantly. While nothing more or less than sort of scrawny, with the way you were slumping and the way he was sitting with his back straight, he looked sort of tall. It did nothing to erase the pout from his face or the nasal from his voice.
You started, squeaking as his dragon -for the dragon was most definitely his, now- stepped out from the shadows, melded to its back like a fresh set of armor as it stalked its way around the clearing, eternally predatory.
Hiccup seemed to relax some as you leaned against him, sort of using his shoulder as a shield, scooting behind it as the Night Fury grew closer. You felt particularly offended, even as he let you drape his arm over your middle, leaving his hand dangling awkwardly in the air. Protect me!
“Wow. What did I do?” Hiccup asked, half-smiling, shifting where he sat, unintentionally pressing your shoulder into slightly jagged rock as he got comfortable.
Sometimes you caught him looking, eyes agonizingly blank though the rest of his expression looked to be somewhat soft, the corners of his mouth pressing into a sweeter-looking half-smile.
You grumbled incomprehensibly as you felt yourself once again eclipsed by shadow, much bigger this time.
You leaned harder against his shoulder, one hand coming to tangle in his sleeve. You eyed it apprehensively, feeling thin twine catch against the place nail met skin. He didn’t get it.
“Don’t leave me behind.” You said suddenly, abruptly. “Ever.”
Hiccup rubbed the back of his head with his free hand, freckles and thin fingers easily losing themselves under the mop of your hair.
“I-ah, yeah, okay.” Hiccup said, brows crinkled, slight confusion evident in his voice, though it didn’t seem any less calm or comfortable for it. He especially didn’t seem to mind as you clung closer to him, something in his face glowing a blotchy, raw pink. “Alright.”
You were in danger. Really, if enjoyment was all he could bother to feel for your predicament, then you took back all of your praises.
You scoffed miffed-ly at a brown, quirked, knowing brow. The devil- He was such a boy.
It didn’t matter what configuration of the face you had or your height or size of hair color. That wasn’t what he thought of when he thought of you, at least not at first.
He looked back at you, sitting in the grass, leaning behind him and he couldn’t help but to think about how pretty your smile was, the way the sun lay over the side of your face and made you look as if you were glowing. Something in his neck twinged as he did, probably sprung or pulled earlier while he was trying to wrestle the saddle onto Toothless.
You were smart- a lot smarter than him on a lot of fronts, though he was pretty ingenious on his own, something anyone, even you, was hard-pressed to match.
Now, he realized, you were just as squirrely as you were cynical.
He’d never really thought of you as someone that needed shielding. You were just as capable and incapable as him in equal measure… mostly. But in that moment, the realization came to him that maybe you… wanted to be?
He looked at you as you muttered something foul under your breath, feeling the same way he did trying to figure out a puzzle and the same way he felt piecing axles, barrels, ropes and wheels together to make up something interesting.
There really wasn’t much else to it, was there?
Really, if that was what you wanted, Hiccup was anyone but the right man for the job, but, well, if you wanted him… Hiccup winced as you dug your nails into his arm, leaving what was probably a deep set of crescent-shaped imprints in his arm, even through his tunic.
Yeah, he still wasn’t sure how to feel about it.
“It’s cold,” You mumbled absentmindedly, eyes shutting some as a breeze brushed over your cheeks and past your ears.
You were right. It was chilly, of course, so high up in the watchtower. It was only your second time up there.
“Yeah…” Hiccup said, leaning closer to the fire.
The two of you bumped shoulders, using a spare piece of kindling like a chair. Your ankles were hooked together, tied like a knot in a rope. The sides of your legs were so closely pressed together that they were nearly flush, despite the fact that no one else was there besides the two of you, everyone else having long since packed up their things and left. He wasn’t sure what they’d talked about. He couldn’t remember.
Hiccup kept his eyes exactly where he shouldn’t, watching you.
Your eyes were half-lidded. You leaned over your knees more than not as you turned over a small, split spit, a chunk of lamb speared over one end, his fur coat draped over your shoulders, one hand clutching at the opposite, empty sleeve. You looked very pretty like that, contented.
“They’ve got to add some walls up here, you know,” You said, your head tilting upwards as you examined a particularly soft bit of meat, thumb sliding up your skewer as you tilted it slightly downwards.
Wow. Hiccup’s eyes were half-lidded, even as he poked at the fires with a stick, nudging the ends of charred logs closer to the fire half-heartedly.
He could hold you by the waist and sway with you and touch your foreheads together and you could play-wrestle and fight in the grass but he couldn’t kiss you and tug his hands through your hair unless he was braiding it and it was driving him crazy. He didn’t want to or have to but now that he knew he could, he thought about it pretty often. He was a teenage boy and you were a teenage girl and he’d always been curious, so of course he’d considered it.
He needed to. He had for years with all the force of a child who’d just learned how to dream. It was- It was… The feeling was surprisingly moral, but no less impassioned.
“One of these days…” HIccup mumbled distractedly.
One of these days. He thought that every morning, now.
Hiccup blinked, the two of you standing in front of each other, curling your fingers around each other, with your fingers still relaxed. It was comfortable, warm… easy. He turned it over in his head, again and again.
The cheering of the arena was nearly deafening to his back, the sound of metal weapons crashing against cage bars grating to his ears. They wanted him, blood, the Nightmare… Astrid was waiting behind you, eyes burning holes into him with all the conflicted feelings of a lost warrior. Even past all that, it wasn’t hard, he found, to focus on you; the lines of your face, the soft and hard curves, each and every blemish and soft patch of skin.
Huh. He thought.
He leaned forward and pressed his face against your bowed head, your forehead touching his shoulder dully past thick brown furs. He felt the split of your hairline against the tip of his nose. His eyes were closed tightly shut.
He reveled in the feeling for the moment, taking in the way your hair felt against his cheeks and the way the leftover grasses and burnt wood and juniper left a scent that laid thick over your scalp, both dusty and spiced, a lot like pine.
Ultimately, he was doing this for Toothless, but now, today, he thought that he might be doing it a little for you, too.
The whistling of Toothless' -no, the Fury’s- wings nearly stunned him, loud enough to make it more difficult to think.
Hiccup nearly choked on wind as he gripped onto the handles he’d built into Toothless’ saddle. For a moment, he thought they wouldn’t hold. After all, one small strap of leather was nearly nothing against the full force of the Gods’ cursed offspring.
They had never gone this fast before, his body felt hollow, both as if he was being nailed to the back of his dragon and as if he might just float off at any moment. The feeling It made him cautious just as much as he was focused.
Even past all of that, the space to his back felt abhorrently empty, and not just because of the way they pierced through the sky. Your tears staining the back of his shirt as he and Toothless dived and shot… He wasn’t sure he’d ever seen you cry before. He still hadn’t- it was silent for the most part, and he’d just felt it, really. If he ever had, it hadn’t been like this.
He couldn’t bring you up with him. He couldn’t. Just as he’d almost died in the ring, you had too.
It wasn’t merely a roar, more of a phenomenon, something that shook even the air around him. It was all-consuming and nearly inescapable. The Queen had followed.
Hiccup furrowed his brows and kept urging his dragon upwards.
Rain beat heavily against the roof of the Chief’s hut, making the world around you feel even more cold, weak and hollow. Thunder roared violently outside as the storm raged on.
“Hiccup,” You choked on air and spit and half a sob as you stared down at a sickly, freckled face, sweat running down both too-pale and blotchy red cheeks, staining his shirt dark. Freshly-changed bandages bled a deep crimson, changing with the color of hot blood and foul puss as his knees, one foot-less and the other not, jerked reflexively against the sheets of his blanket.
He’d been consistently out between long bouts of delirium and fever, his eyes rolling beneath his lids, just barely visible under the flickering light of a single, dying candle, twitching viciously. You clutched at Hiccup’s slick palm with both hands as he fitfully fought his way past conscious dreams.
You’d stayed- you’d stayed all night and day.
If dedication had ever really meant anything, if worship and hope and work had ever really meant a damn, if the Gods had ever been real and if their decree had ever meant anything, you hoped your will reached the heavens.
“Lass,” The Chief rumbled deeply from behind you, his heavy weight causing old floorboards to creak deeply as he shifted.
You didn’t even have the energy to shake off the nearly unbearable heat of his father’s palm on your shoulder as you cried yourself nearly sick with tears and snot and spit gathering at every orifice. It was an ugly cry, an undignified, ungainly one, followed with all your fears and hopes and despairs.
You had your own injuries to tend to, yet you felt as if you couldn’t, not in that moment, not even if it meant that you’d have to be fighting off your own pains and fevers later, if you hadn’t already fallen under their grasp. The only thing you could do was watch and feel a need for Hiccup to be okay so deep it rendered you helpless. Ultimately, though, you knew his recovery had nothing to do with you.
Hiccup’s dragon had left to cauterwal outside, to wail and wreak havoc and feast on the latest fisherman’s catch. He seemed less worried than you and the Chief but more worried than everyone else, and rightly so.
Suddenly, you started.
With a voice both intensely raspy and wet, Hiccup mumbled your name. It hadn’t been anything special, more a simple expression of his recognition, yet you sniveled as Hiccup clutched back at your hand, his grip weak compared to yours, his eyes dull with the force of his fever. For a very long moment, he held it.
“Hiccup.” You tried again.
The Chief’s hand tightened over your shoulder, squeezing already stiff and sore muscles.
The last time you’d seen his eyes, he’d been staring you in the face, mouth opening and closing pointedly and yet no words had come out. He’d dropped you then, right before rushing up into the sky on Toothless’ back.
Parts of you had been pinned by the rubble after and you had nearly been left behind. You could barely think past the pain, yet you still remembered how it felt to be left on the ground, hands clutched to your chest, mind completely fogged with pain and fear, hoping and hoping and hoping, cringing and in pain as the sky flashed. The terrifying outline of the dragon queen in the sky, smoke and fog larger than life, everyone certain Hiccup was going to die, himself most certainly… It seared a painful picture into your mind.
Part of you had been in danger, then. You weren’t anymore. Now, you really loved Hiccup Haddock, and you needed him to be okay.
He hoped you were safe. He didn’t know what he would do otherwise.
He couldn’t ever let you go. Never. Not until- Not unless he died, even if it hurt and his forehead felt weighted with the pressure of all the world’s fires.

The amount of fear that ran through Hiccup when Drago yelled out his bone chilling scream, waving his staff around in the air… it was immeasurable. The aggression that the throaty sound held in it sent a chill down Hiccup’s spine. He knew at that moment, that he was in serious trouble.
The ground shook with each step that the bewilderbeast took towards them, and rather than the calm awe and serenity that Hiccup felt when he met his mothers bewilderbeast, looking into the eyes of this one made him feel a fear that he couldn’t get rid of.
“No dragon can resist the alpha’s command.” Drago said lowly, his voice scratching its way out of his throat. “So, he who controls the alpha, controls them all.”
A hint of rage settled in Hiccups veins as Drago spoke, pointing his staff towards Toothless.
The rage nearly dissipated, a low sound emitting throughout snow and ice covered land. The sound came from the bewilderbeast, it’s pupils narrowed at Toothless. Toothless began shaking his head, making a noise of discomfort. “Toothless?” Hiccup said worriedly.
Toothless continued to whimper, shaking his head around. “T-toothless, you okay, bud? What’s going on?” But all of the words leaving Hiccups mouth did nothing.
Drago’s voice sounded again. “Witness true strength. The strength of will over others.” Drago was holding up his staff again, the pointed end pointing to Toothless, who suddenly rose, ever so still. “In the face of it… you are nothing.”
When Hiccup realized he was now looking at the end of the staff, it being pointed directly at his chest, he knew that trouble was arising. Toothless slowly turned towards him, pupils as narrow as the bewilderbeast’s were. “Uh,” Hiccup slowly backed away from his dragon, “What did he just tell you?”
Toothless got low to the ground, snarling as he slowly crept over towards his rider, who kept backing away. “Toothless, come on. What’s the matter with you?” He felt the desperation begin to tear at his heart, knowing that there was almost nothing he could do. And sudden moves or sounds could result in the controlled Toothless to pounce on him, resulting in his demise. Even if Hiccup could get a hit in, how much would that break his heart? Would he be able to hurt his best friend?
“No, no, no, no. Come on. What are you doing? Knock it off.” Hiccup knew he was being backed up into ice, and soon he would have no where to go. “Stop!” He yelled out, “snap out of it!” But the attempt was useless, as Toothless kept his slow, creeping pace.
The world around his became almost meaningless. It was just him, Toothless, and mountains of ice trapping him in. “Toothless, no! Toothless.”
Toothless hissed, preparing to launch a heated breath of fire at him, and he felt his heart drop. “Don’t!”
He almost didn’t hear the broken cry of his name being shouted, his eyes remaining on Toothless’ sharp ones. “Stop!”
“Hiccup!” The voice shouted again, and with wide eyes, he looked, and his heart sunk further. You were running right towards him, determination and fear in your eyes. The painful realization of what you were doing came all too quick, and his fear that was once reserved for himself was now almost entirely for you. “Y/n! No!”
But it was too late, you were right next to him, and then crashing into him. Hiccup slid across the snow covered ground, gasping in fear of what he’d see when he looked at you.
He looked just in time to see the blast of fire miss you—just in time to see it hit the ice behind you, breaking a peace of it off as it came crashing down onto you.
“No!”
He startled himself with the cry that left his lips. The world around him faded out again. It was only you, him, and his shallow breaths. “No…” He said again, the disbelief strong in his tone. This couldn’t be happening.
He ran over to you, feeling like he was going to collapse. He was by your side in seconds—he was by your side and there you were, covered in shards of teal-blue ice. Your eyes were shut; your breathing was barely there. He feared every one of your breaths would be your last.
He groaned as he pushed the ice off of you, piece by piece. As each shard slid off, an already growing bruise was left in its wake wherever your skin was visible.
The despair was crushing him; engulfing him; making a home into his heart that was sinking even further as it buried itself into the ever so cold snow beneath him. He grabbed and pulled at your left arm, pulling you off of your side and onto your back. “Y/n!”
Hiccup hardly paid attention to his mother dropping by his side, and his father close behind her. Your breaths were still so shallow.
“Y/n… Oh, my Gods.” His breath caught in his throat, and he faintly felt his mothers hand rest on his shoulder. For the better of his own sanity, he pressed to fingers to your neck, sighing in relief at the slow and weak feeling of your heartbeat beneath his fingers. It wasn’t much, but it was something.
“Wake up… please wake up.” He ignored every sound around him, including the sound of his friends arriving to the scene. He couldn’t help but to wrap his arms around you, being ever so careful and gentle with your injured form. He felt like he had already lost you, the thought making tears roll down his face. He couldn’t believe that you had gotten hurt instead of him: the target.
You—the younger sister who came into his life when he was just 4 years old. The sister who listened to him when everyone turned a blind eye and pretended like he didn’t exist. You were always there, and as he held you close, he couldn’t get rid of the fear that soon you would be here no longer.
All of his attention was on you, until he heard a low coo from his very own dragon: the dragon who did this.
As Toothless’ snout brushed up against your hand, he couldn’t help the anger that enveloped him. Deep down he knew it wasn’t Toothless’ fault, but something else told him he needed something to be angry at. After seeing the way Toothless’ had unknowingly injured you, his emotions got the best of him. “No! Get away from her!” Hiccup harshly shoved Toothless away, feeling guilt at the way his dragon whined in response, but Hiccup was spiralling.
He stood to his feet, looking down at Toothless. “Go on! Get out of here!”
Toothless took a small step forward, his eyes holding sadness at being shouted at, but Hiccup shouted again. “Get away!”
Hiccup was a mix of emotions as Toothless coward away and ran off.
“It’s not his fault.” Valka said softly, her sadness making her voice wobble only slightly. “You know that.”
And Hiccup did know that. He fell to his knees again, fresh tears rolling down his face as he looked at you. Your eyes were still closed.
The bewilderbeast roared out, but Hiccup almost didn’t hear it as his mother spoke. “Good dragons under the control of bad people… do bad things.”
“Come on!” Hiccup heard someone shout, along with the sound of Toothless whimpering. He looked up, and Drago was riding a once again controlled Toothless, leading him away. “Gather the men and meet me at Berk!”
Hiccup felt an urgency rush through him, and he jumped up onto his feet. “Toothless!” He cried out to him, but Valka held him back. He felt useless as the alpha roared out, and Drago’s men prepared to leave the island.
He couldn’t help but to continue to cry. He just lost his best friend, and he looked down at you, worried that he would lose another. He dropped down beside you again, feeling like the entire world was against him. He felt lost and scared. He couldn’t lose you. He doesn’t know what he’d do without you.
“Hiccup…” Stoick said from behind him. Hiccup could already picture the look on his face based of the sadness in his voice.
“No, Dad.” Why were they acting like you were already dead? You just had to wake up.
As the tears kept falling down his cheeks, his friends backed away and watched from a good distance, as he needed his space. His parents stayed close behind him.
“We have to— we have to do something. Why isn’t anyone doing anything? My sister is dying and you’re all just standing around waiting for—“ Waiting for her to die.
“Hiccup,” Gobber said softly, a pained sigh leaving the man’s lips, “there’s not much we can do, right now. Not here. Back home, maybe things would be better. But we don’t have our dragons to get there, Hiccup.”
Hiccup remained looking at you, still. “So, why are you all acting like you don’t care?” Maybe that was harsh, but he was still spiralling.
“Hiccup, of course we care.” When Astrid spoke, Hiccup looked at her and found a world of sadness in her eyes. Maybe she was worried for you; maybe she felt guilt and pity for him; maybe it was both. The the look in her eyes made him feel less alone.
Hiccup was silent for a few moments, and then, “There’s nothing we can do?” He chose to ignore the way his voice cracked with emotion.
His father sighed, and removed his helmet, holding it to his chest. “Nothing we can do but pray that she wakes up.”
Hiccup inhaled deeply. “I need a second alone with her.”
He didn’t receive a response, he only heard the sound of footsteps slowly backing away.
With a shaking hand, he took your hand into his, watching a teardrop fall down and land on your fingertip. The desperation in him had been making a slow incline, and he wasn’t sure how much of this he could take.
“You have to wake up.” He whispered, falling back down to wrap an arm around you. “Come on. Wake up.”
But as your breathing remained slow, he felt the tears roll down a little faster, and he couldn’t help the sob that slipped past his lips. “Wake up. Come on, what are you doing? Get up…”
A hitch in your breath.
As the sound reaches his ears, and he feels the pattern of your breath change for only a moment, his head snaps up. Your face is neutral, a scrape and bruise on your right cheekbone.
“Y/n?…”
He’s filled with a sense of hope, and just as it feels like it was a trick of his mind, your breath catches again, and your brows move the smallest amount.
“Oh, my Gods.” Hiccup breathes out. “Y/n? Hey… wake up, come on.”
Your eyes began to flutter open and it’s like Hiccup and finally breathe again. He leans forward so that you see him, and your eyes meet his. “Hiccup?”
Hiccup laughs, light and airy, and nods. “Yeah, I’m here. You’re okay.
Your face scrunches up a little as you become aware of the pain running across your skin. Hiccup notices and a slight frown lands on his face.
Your hand squeezes his, “I’m glad you’re okay, Hiccup.”
Hiccup can’t help the shock that runs through him. “You’re glad I’m okay? I’m glad you’re okay…” he then sighs, thinking about how he nearly lost you. The ache in his heart was still there, like a poison latching onto him, killing him slowly. He couldn’t believe how close to death you had gotten. “I thought I was gonna lose you.”
And then he was hugging you again, being as gentle as possible. He felt you wrap an arm around his back, but he could tell that by the way your arm was shaking, it was taking more of a toll on you than you’d like to admit. Hiccup pulled back. “Don’t strain yourself.”
Your eyes were still only about half open and he wouldn’t be surprised if you passed out soon. “Don’t worry, you’re gonna be fine. I promise.”
But his words could only be heard so clearly as the world began to fade once again. It had taken so much of your energy to stay conscious as long as you did.
“No, no, no. Keep your eyes open, okay? Stay awake, stay awake— Dad!”
The last thing you saw was your brother and parents hovering over you, and then you were welcomed into a deep sleep once again.
⿻
The rest of the day went by so fast, yet so slow. Hiccup felt pride for him and Toothless—who he had since forgiven and apologized to—for being able to fight against Drago and the alpha. After this, it was clear that Toothless had earned his place as the alpha. However, as all of this had been happening, you were the only thing on Hiccup’s mind. He was fighting for everyone, and most importantly to avenge you. This was Drago’s fault—all of this. Hiccup had to do something about it, and he did.
It was likely clear how much he was worrying for you, because not long after the bewilderbeast had dove into the water, taking Drago with him, his mother was at his side. He knew from the look on her face alone that she was saying he should go to you. He didn’t waste a second.
He ran up to his house, passing by people cheering and shouting out of glee, and he pushed open his front door and ran straight to your room. There you were, under the care of Gothi, tucked into your bed and bandaged wherever needed. It was honestly a wonder that they were even able to get you to Berk while you were unconscious, but they managed. Hiccup was just glad to see you now, alive and breathing.
Gothi nodded at him, making her way out of the room. Hiccup remained still for a moment, looking down at you. It pained him to see you like this.
Eventually he sat on the edge of the bed, and looked down at his hands. He felt so guilty about you getting hurt. It felt like it was his fault, somehow. You had jumped to save him, and this is where it brought the both of you. Surely, he was partially at fault for this outcome.
“You’re not blamin’ yourself, are you?”
At the sound of your voice, Hiccup whipped his head around, eyes wide and burning with tears that haven’t even quite built up yet. “You’re awake.”
You nodded lightly, looking down at your bandaged and bruised body. You didn’t regret a thing you did.
“Why… did you do that?” Hiccup started slowly. He didn’t expect this to be what he decided to talk about, but he got to thinking and his mouth was moving before he even realized it. “I mean… save me—“ He took a deep breath, brows furrowing at the topic at hand.
“What else did you want me to do?” You said. You sounded determined, strangely enough.
“I—“
“I couldn’t just… stand there.”
“I wanted you to.”
You sighed this time. “And what? Watch you die? You could’ve.”
Hiccup saw tears begin to form in your own eyes, and he somewhat felt bad for bringing this up right now. “You could’ve, too.”
“I know.” You stated. There was a brief pause as you both collected your thoughts. You didn’t want to argue about this. Neither of you wanted to make anger out of grieving for someone who hadn’t even died. “I care about you, Hiccup. You looked just as scared as I felt. Even if you don’t want to admit it. I don’t know what I would’ve done with myself if you got hurt, or worse. I love you, but I’m not sorry for what I did. I’d rather be hurt than you be hurt instead.”
Hiccup gazed down at you and realized in that moment that you were just like any other Haddock—stubborn as hell. Hiccup and his father were some of the most stubborn people on Berk, if not the most stubborn, and he wouldn’t be surprised that if he got to know his mother a little more, she would turn out to be the same.
Having such a quality can be unbearable at times, but it made for some pretty promising trust with the people you love.
“Well,” Hiccup broke into a smile, chuckling lightly. “I would do the same for you.”
You laughed softly. “I’d hope so.”
Hiccup was shocked when you started pushing yourself up on the bed all of a sudden. “Hey, woah, woah, woah. What are you doing?”
“Relax. I know my limits.” You snickered, and then winced. All of a sudden your arms were around Hiccup and Hiccup wasn’t sure if it was the stupidest or sweetest thing you’ve ever done. Probably both.
Hiccup hugged you back, his eyes closing as it felt like the day was finally calming down. “Don’t ever do anything like that again.”
An amused scoff, and then, “no promises.”
Definitely a Haddock.

I don't usually write, let alone share fan fics, but I've been on a DEEP Httyd hyperfixation lately and it's been particularly inspiring, and I'm a slut for a good Hiccupxreader so have this lil piece I wrote, I plan on writing more and if people like it who knows maybe it'll be more than just a collection of one shots 🤷🏼♀
This Changes Everything...
Hiccup x Fem!Reader
This takes place between Rtte and Httyd2 when Hiccup is working on his map and trying to find the part of himself he thinks is missing, little does he know he’s going to find something else along the way that he really didn’t expect.
Y/N = your name
D/N = your dragon’s name
H/C = your hair color
E/C = your eye color
F/C = your favorite color
Chapter 1
It was late afternoon on a beautiful midsummer day, the sun was shining bright over the calm seas, the steady waves sparkling in the warm light. "What better time for an exploratory flight around the the archipelago?" Hiccup thought, ignoring the other glaringly obvious reason being that once again his father had tried to talk to him about taking over as chief soon. That wasn't something he wanted to talk or think about right now. There was still far too much he hadn't discovered yet, about the world, and more importantly, about himself.
He and Toothless had been soaring around the neighboring islands for what seemed like hours at this point, noticing nothing new or out of the ordinary, much to Hiccup's disappointment. He leaned forward to place his hand on Toothless' neck and opened his mouth to tell him to turn back towards home when the Night Fury's ears shot up in eager curiosity, and began sniffing excitedly at the air.
"What is it, bud?" Hiccup asked, curious himself now.
Before he knew it, Toothless dove towards a nearby island with such speed he nearly fell backwards from the sheer force. "Thank Thor for this harness!" He thought.
"Whoooa, bud! What's gotten into you?" Said Hiccup, as they plummeted faster.
They landed so abruptly that Hiccup lurched forward and tumbled off of Toothless' back. With a quick glance back at his best friend to make sure he wasn't hurt and an impatient bark, Toothless set off into the woods, eagerly bounding through the trees to find the source of his interest.
"Toothless, wait! Where are you going?!" Hiccup called, getting up as quick as he could to run after his wayward dragon. Try as he might, he couldn't quite keep up with Toothless and soon lost him in the brush.
"Toothless? Toothless! Toothless, where are you?!" He screamed, praying to the Gods that there weren't dragon hunters on this island. In the near distance he heard the distinct roar of a Night Fury and quickened his pace.
Eventually he came to a small clearing nestled in a thick canopy of trees, which blocked out most of the sunlight, making it difficult to see well. He saw a large, dark creature moving in the shadows and squinted for a moment before letting out a sigh of relief. It was definitely a Night Fury.
"There you are! What in Thor’s name was so important that you couldn't wait for me, huh bud?" He said, a twinge of annoyance in his voice, despite trying to maintain a calm tone.
The dragon shifted quickly and whipped it's head around, letting out a low warning growl as it did so.
"Wh-Hey, hey bud, it's me, it's Hiccup, what are you-" he stopped cold as the dragon moved into a small streak of light peaking through the trees, illuminating it's deep violet eyes that were angrily boring into his startled green ones.
Shock, then dawning comprehension, and finally fear spread across Hiccup's face as he realized Toothless had green eyes, this was not his dragon. He had somehow managed to find another Night Fury…and they were mad.
"Ohh my Gods…Wow, another Night Fury! And look at your eyes, I've only ever seen Razorwhips with purple eyes before, incredible!" He started, his fascination getting the better of him for a moment before remembering that this dragon was not friendly, yet. "Uhh, whooa-okay, easy, I-I'm not gonna hurt you, it's okay." He said gently, his hands up in attempt to show he wasn't a threat.
The wild Night Fury growled louder, and narrowed it's eyes, clearly not believing his assurances. He backed up slowly until he was backed up against a tree and suddenly, from a branch above him Hiccup heard a woman shout,
"You're damn right you won't hurt her!"
The next thing he knew, he was face down on the ground with a knee pressed between his shoulder blades, pinning him in place and the distinct sound of a dagger being unsheathed above him. He shifted nervously under her weight and tried to speak through the dirt and grass he was currently being shoved into.
"Look, ugh, I don't know who you are, but I really don't mean either of you any harm, I would never hurt a dragon, especially not a Night Fury!"
"Uh huh, sure, just like the last guy we caught sneaking up on us. You hunters are all the same! Why can't you just leave her alone?!" She said, angrily digging her knee harder into his back.
"Argh…Hey, could you ease up a bit? I'm telling you the truth, I'm not a hunter, I'm a dragon rider!" He said in a strained voice.
"Well that's a new one, huh D/N?" The Night Fury made a disdainful huff of agreement beside her, "but I'm still not buyin' it, I know you were just here for same thing they all come for, the last Night Fury in the world. Well, if you want her, you have to go through me!" She said, raising her arm to strike, but before she could bring down her dagger a purple plasma blast came out from the bushes, disarming her. She looked up at D/N in confusion, and the dragon simply gave her an equally confused look in return.
Toothless sprang out of the bushes, growling and baring his teeth as he slowly advanced on the young woman holding his friend hostage. With his captor sufficiently distracted, Hiccup managed to push her off of him and swipe a foot under her, knocking her to the ground.
"Look, we don't want to fight you, please just listen to me." He said, getting to his feet and once again putting his hands up in a gesture of peace.
She stared, dumbfounded at Toothless, who had positioned himself in between them to protect Hiccup, "I can't believe it" she uttered under her breath. She turned back to Hiccup with a suspicious glare, "who are you?" narrowing her eyes at him, one hand reaching for the bow slung across her back in case she still needed to fight her way out of this.
"My name is Hiccup Haddock, son of Stoick the Vast the Chief of Berk, and leader of the Dragon Riders of Berk. This is Toothless, and up until now we believed he was the last Night Fury left in existence…" He said carefully, taking a tentative step towards the young lady and her wary dragon.
D/N was so distracted at this point by Toothless that she had stopped growling and had begun eyeing him with curiosity. They cautiously approached each other. Glancing at the dragons, who had both dropped their defenses and started sniffing each other inquisitively, Hiccup smiled slightly and let out a relieved sigh "see? Toothless just wanted to say hello." He turned back to the girl who had now lowered her hand from her bow, but still looked uncertain.
"Look, I'm sorry we scared you guys, we were just scouting out new islands to add to this map I've been working on and I guess Toothless heard or smelled, er, D/N, was it? Anyway, dragons are gonna do what dragons do, right?" He said, smiling wider now.
He had such an unassuming, warm smile, she couldn’t help but feel more at ease, and there was something in his eyes that made it hard not to believe him. Realizing that maybe he wasn't quite the threat she thought he was after all, she relaxed slightly and took a few steps closer to him. With how fast everything had just happened, Hiccup hadn’t really gotten a good look at her before, but now that she was standing only a few feet from him he could see that she was easily one of the most beautiful women he’d ever seen. She had long H/C hair with two small braids around the crown of her head that met in the back where they merged with a larger braid that fell down the middle of her back, with the rest of her hair falling free underneath. Her eyes were a stunning shade of E/C. She was dressed in a long F/C tunic with a off-white fur wrap around her shoulders that clasped around her neck with a strangely carved broach, a leather skirt, and fur lined boots that matched the fur around her shoulders.
“Wow…” Hiccup thought out loud, then catching himself said “uh, I mean, how…did you find a Night Fury? For the last five years we assumed Toothless here was the last of their kind.”
“We sort of…found each other, I guess.” she started, pausing a moment as she recalled their troubled past. “Where I’m from dragons are considered evil, all anyone cares about is capturing or killing them, but something about that never sat right with me, even though they terrified me. It wasn’t until I came across D/N in one of our traps that I realized why, I saw how scared she was, how helpless, and it was like…” she trailed off staring at the ground, trying to find the words.
“It was like she was just as scared of you as you were of her? Almost as if you could see yourself in her?” Hiccup finished.
She looked up at him speechless, “Y-yes…how did you know that?”
He let out a light hearted chuckle and said “Because it was exactly the same with me and Toothless. I looked at him, and I saw myself, and we’ve been together ever since, isn’t that right, bud?” he said gesturing for Toothless to come over to him, prompting the dragon to jump over, nuzzle his arm, and lick him across the face. “Haha okay, okay, easy bud! You know that doesn’t wash out!”
She couldn’t help but let out a small laugh at this sudden display of affection between the two. D/N came over to her and gently head butted her as if to ask for her turn. She stroked the dragon’s smooth scales and whispered, “well, what do you think, girl? Should we trust em?” D/N cooed happily in response.
Taking another tentative step towards Hiccup, she said "I-I'm sorry I attacked you…it's just, we've never met anyone else like us…either of us. It's just been the two of us for so long, I learned trusting other humans doesn't usually turn out well." A look of quiet disdain darkened her face at the last few words.
Hiccup furrowed his brow, his smile fading with concern as he turned back to look at her and said "Sounds like you guys have been through a lot…we can relate.”
She looked from Hiccup to Toothless, suddenly noticing that he had a prosthetic leg, and that Toothless had a prosthetic tail fin as well.
"What happened to you guys?" She said, feeling as if she already knew the answer, "hunters?" she added with a scowl.
"Uh…not exactly." he replied sheepishly, absent mindedly rubbing the back of his head in embarrassment. Realizing this wasn’t much of an explanation, Hiccup sighed and said, “it’s a long story.”
“Well, I have time.” She gestured to a large rock nearby for them to sit on. Hiccup smiled and followed her over. He started telling the story of how Berk used to be, how he had shot down Toothless only to realize that he didn’t want to kill him, how they had slowly gained each other’s trust, and eventually how they had managed to change everyone else’s minds about dragons.
“Sure, life’s a little more chaotic now with dragons everywhere, but it’s so much better!” He said, absolutely beaming. She couldn’t help but return his infectious smile.
“That’s amazing! I wish my tribe was like that…” she said, her tone turning wistful. “We had to run away to keep D/N safe, the people back home just didn’t understand, they only wanted to mount her head on their walls” she glared at the dirt, fuming at the harsh memories, “even my own family turned against us.”
Hiccup gave her a sympathetic look and said “Well, if you don’t have anywhere else to go, why don’t you come back to Berk with me and Toothless?”
She looked up at him, her nerves suddenly returning, “Oh…Uh, I don’t know…I mean, you two do seem nice, and I still can’t believe we met another Night Fury…but, we don’t really know you that well or how well we can trust you, no offense. I have to do what’s right for D/N, she’s saved me countless times, I have to keep her safe too.”
“Well…if you won’t come to Berk, how about we come back here to check up on you from time to time? That way you know you’re not alone, and Toothless and D/N can finally have one of their own kind to spend time with, it’s a win-win!” He said hopefully.
She thought for a moment, unsure, but something tugged at her gut to say yes. She didn’t know why, but she really did want to see Hiccup again, and he did have a good point, this was D/N’s only chance to be with her own species, this chance wouldn’t come up again.
“Hmm…I guess that would be okay.” She said, smiling softly.
He grinned back at her sweetly and said “Great! Hey, uh, I just realized I never got your name.”
“Oh, right, it’s Y/N.”
“Y/N? Wow, that’s…that’s really pretty, uh I mean, I’m really glad we met, Y/N.” He said, once again smiling wide, his cheeks turning the faintest shade of pink.
She felt her cheeks warm slightly too as he looked at her, his green eyes bright with earnest enthusiasm somehow made her feel that for the first time ever, she was truly being seen. For once in her life, she was genuinely hopeful.

Something I haven't gone into depth here is Hiccup's relationship with her handmaid, Vessa. Vessa is Roman born who traveled north as a slave only to become a slave of the Berserkers. Someone pointed out to me that Rome was pretty much gone by the time HTTYD takes place, and while I appreciate the facts, it's too late to retcon her. Also the age of Vikings was pretty much at its end by the time HTTYD takes place too. And dragon never actually existed. So suspension of disbelief.
Vessa more or less fulfills he role of Astrid in the first film, being a person to bounce her thoughts off of. Vessa was prostitute her whole life, and despite being only a little older than Hiccup, she is vastly more experienced. Vessa was tired of being a "tavern girl" and deiced to shoot her shot and try to be the handmaid of the chief's wife. It works out well for both of them. Vessa escapes the less than pleasant existence she'd been living and Hiccup learns how to take control of her life through, "ahem", bedroom activities. The resulting relationship is one of mutual care and affection. Vessa views hiccup as both a daughter and little sister. Hiccup views Vessa as a mentor, confidant and big sister.
Like many sisters, there is banter. Since Vessa became a handmaid, she's somewhat cut off from village gossip. Now her main source of entertainment is watching the little virgin bride get flustered by asking about her sex life. Here Vessa is asking what position Hiccup thought finally knocked her up.
"Did you mate like dragons?"
"Oh my gods, no!"
"Ok, ok, let me guess, you were riding his dragon."
"Vessa, shut up!"
Hiccup would never let Vessa know she was probably right.
BTW, Hiccup has short hair ere because most of it got burned off when fighting the Red Death, this takes pace several months later. Also, Hiccup doesn't like wearing that heavy fur cloak usually, but Dagur got pretty protective during her first pregnancy. He wanted her to stay warm.

Romantic Flight
Requested: yes or no
Note: it's pretty much like how to train your dragon 1, but a tiny bit different
Title: Romantic Flight
Paring: Damian Wayne x Fem! Reader
Summary: Damian found that Y/N has a pet dragon
Warning(s): there might be some spelling and grammar mistakes, the dragon is male
Song Inspired:
Keywords: Y/N-your name, D/N-dragon name, Y/D/C- your dragon color, N/N- nickname
==================
Time: 8:49 P.M || Saturday || Y/N is about to show Damian something in the enchanted Mau Forest || the Mau Forest is a dark forest with lots of lakes, ponds, mushrooms, water falls and rocks
================
”Beloved, where are you taking me?” Damian asked as Y/N dragged him through the Mau Forest. The Mau Forest is a dark, and swampy Forest, so Damian was confused why his girlfriend would like it there.
"You'll see" Y/N said while dragging Damian's hand deeper inside the Mau Forest
As they got deeper, The Mau Forest starts to look less creepy and more pretty
When they got there, the Mau Forest wasn't super dark anymore, but it was still dark but not as dark as before.
The Mau Forest was beautiful. There's no litter, or anything, just tree's, rocks, ponds, waterfalls, and mushrooms
Y/N approached a pond. The pond was more sparkly then the other ponds there
Y/N crouched on the grass near the pond and gently grabbed a weird looking shell out of the water as Damian watched
Y/N blew on the weird looking sea shell making a weird noise, sounding like a dragon roar
Y/N kept blowing the sea shell whistle and after a few minutes Damian got impatient
"Look Beloved, i know you like collecting and testing out weird stuff, but it's getting dark, and i need to go on patrol" Damian sighed while starting to walk away until he hears giant flapping wings and landing near Y/N
Damian turned back to Y/N and he's see's a giant, Y/D/C dragon and he see's Y/N feed it fish
"Y/N! Get away from that... That.... That thing!" Damian yells
"Don't worry Dames, he's friendly"
"Who is he?"
"his name is D/N"
"How exactly did you find.... Him?"
"Uhm, long story. But he's really friendly, i promise"
"uhm I'm pretty sure those creatures are NOT friendly!"
Y/N didn't answer as she gently grabbed Damian's hand and walking him up to D/N as Y/N gently and slowly places his hand on the head of D/N as Damian looked at D/N with wide eyes
"He's.... He's not biting?"
"I told you, he's friendly"
Before Damian could answer, Y/N sat on D/N's saddle
"Get on" said Y/N while motioning Damian to sit on the saddle behind her as Damian hesitated but went on
D/N starts to fly high in the sky as Y/N spoke to D/N
"D/N, be slow and steady. This is Damian's first time riding a dragon" Y/N whispers to D/N as D/N starts to fly slower and more steady as he went above the clouds
The moon was beautiful and shimmering bright as Damian looked down, he could see all of Gotham from up here, Damian looked at the clouds, some were under them, and some were next to them. It felt truly amazing.

Chapter One: A Lightfury’s Guide to Stealing A Dragon Rider
Pairing: Hiccup 'Horrendous’ Haddock III x fem!oc
Word count: 3.1k
Chapter Summary: When a destroyed fleet of dragon hunter ships wash up at Dragon’s Edge, with all that is left behind are white scales and scorch marks, it leaves some questions to be raised within the dragon riders and what could have caused this. On the other side of the archipelago, a girl that appears and disappears at Northern Markets makes her presence known, planning to stick around until the heat calms down.
Overall Summary: A mysterious new dragon rider has been starting to make their presence known by tearing through dragon hunter ships and leaving nothing in their wake. What dragon they ride is unknown. What they look like is unknown. Why they are hunting the dragon hunters is unknown. The only thing that is known is that they will stop at nothing to destroy every dragon hunter ship at any cost.
N/A: Make sure you check out the prologue for this series! I feel like near the end of the chapter it sort of goes off the rails a bit. Hope you enjoy :D
*Art and gif is not mine.
Hiccup started his day like any other; waking up relatively early–at least earlier than the twins or Snotlout–and getting Toothless for a morning flight, usually to be met with Astrid as she finishes her rounds of the island, insisting she does a sweep of the island to make sure no hunters had found their way onto the beaches.
Toothless was already awake and bounding around Hiccup’s hut. His teeth were retracted as he watched Hiccup stir awake.
Not waiting for his rider to fully wake, Toothless jumped onto the bed, shaking it as Hiccup startled awake, trying to sit upright only to knock his head into Toothless’ snout. A disgruntled groan left the dragon at the contact.
“Sorry bud,” Hiccup began to say, cutting himself off as the grumbled scorn from Toothless. “What's got you so rowdy this morning?”
A gargling noise rang out from Toothless, flashing his gums before hopping off of Hiccup and his bed before jumping towards the hut’s door, large steps shaking the wooden beams the hut is balanced on. With the rustling from behind, Toothless looked back with a toothless smile to find Hiccup slowly awaking from bed, getting ready for the day on the Edge ahead of him.
“Alright bud, I’m on my way. Don’t worry,” Hiccup muttered with a yawn as he paced after the Nightfury. A steady hand landed on Toothless’ head, pushing him back a few paces so he could push open the door. The sun had started to rise by now, nearly set high enough to commence breakfast. Toothless raced forward, bumping Hiccup with his tail and causing him to stumble forward, a laugh rolling in his chest. “Perfect morning for a flight, isn’t it?”
Before Toothless could rumble a reply, Stormfly came barreling up, Astrid sat on her back as she stared worriedly at Hiccup. “Hiccup, there’s something you're going to want to see,” She announced upon her arrival, causing Hiccup to stumble out of his hut a couple of steps faster.
“What is it?” He hurriedly asked, resting a hand on Toothless’s head, ready to mount his back at any given second to follow after Astrid.
“I think it would be better if you took a look for yourself,” She called out, head flicking around to look down at the docks she and the other dragon riders had built when they first started working on building the Edge.
Hiccup didn’t have to be told twice.
Before Astrid could blink, Hiccup and Toothless were already in the air and flying towards her. His eyes hadn’t yet locked on where Astrid had come from, waiting for her guidance to lead him.
The two of them were in the air for only a few seconds, a quick glide down before their dragon’s claws were touching down on the wooden planks that made up their docks. That was when Hiccup was finally able to see what had Astrid so spooked.
In front of them was a fleet of half-destroyed ships.
Each ship had a number of scorch marks that plunged through the wooden decks, the sails that had the dragon hunter crest torn to shreds. Most of the ships also had discarded weapons and helmets, left behind by the hunters that had sailed on these ships. But something stuck out on one of the ships, the largest out of the lot. There was a variety of cuts and indents in the ship, looking to be placed there by a sword or some other kind of weapon, perhaps claw marks along with a few scales white as snow scattered around the destroyed ship.
“Astrid… what do you think could have done this?” Hiccup questioned, his head whirling around to face Astrid only to find the blonde girl staring hauntedly at the ship graveyard.
“More like who.”

"Ah, if it isn't my favourite customer from beyond the archipelago," A middle-aged man boasts as he sees a young woman walking up to his stall in the Northern Markets, his arms spread wide and a yellowing smile. His loud comments forced many heads to turn as Sindri was one of the best weapons traders within the isle, the man always having something to please any form of customer.
A dry chuckle escapes the girl as she steps up to the stall countertop, her boots digging into the muddy floor as she rests one of her gloved hands on the counter. "You should stop spoiling me with the praises Sindri," She says with a grin, her eyes briefly scanning over the items the man had on display for the day. “Your words might start to get to my head after all.”
"Maybe I'm just trying to make sure I get into Valhalla when my time comes," He says with a booming grin, leaving his prior task behind as he walks up to the girl. "I do after all need a Valkyrie to take me there. Your ego is free to inflate as much as you wish," He comments smugly, wiggling his eyebrows at the girl as he stops in front of her.
"Just because the name Valkyrie belongs to me it doesn't mean I will be flying you anywhere in the afterlife," She chides the man loosely. "And besides, you need to die in battle to be sent there. I don't think selling these weapons counts as so," She says amused at the slight drop in the man's shoulders.
"You might be right there," The man comments, an eyebrow being raised by the girl across from him in question at the might part. "So, what can I help you with today? It's been a while since your last visit to the Northern Markets," Sindri asks, both his hands leaning on the countertop as he waits for the girl across from him's request.
Valkyrie absently looks around the stall, staring at the many weapons discarded around the wooden crates and countertops. "Do you have any more of those Hideous Zippleback exploding boxes? The ones where the gas pours out of it until it gets lit," She asked, going into explanation since she knew that wasn't the name Sindri had given her when he first sold the items to her, and that exploding boxes could be quite vague.
"Of course, I have those in stock! I make them myself, remember?" He asks, grinning wildly as he bends down to reach for something hidden in a crate. Pulling out seven rectangular-like boxes, all made from vast metals and wood. He places them on the counter just in front of the girl’s hands. "Now, Valkyrie, these are the last ones I have in stock since you keep forgetting to bring the empty ones back to me." He says with a slight scold to his words.
"So there worth a pretty penny?" Valkyrie asks, staring up at Sindri slightly sheepish and with her shoulders bunching to her ears as she raises a brow in question, both palms facing up in front of her.
"Precisely," Sindri says with a sharp nod. "Now, I'm willing to trade them off for something, but if not, I'm going to need about two bags worth," He states, his face losing most of its joy as he goes into trader mode, making sure he gets the best deal for himself.
"Two bags?" Valkyrie questions with a huff of air, picking up one of the canisters loosely. When a hum of agreement leaves Sindri, Valkyrie places it down on the countertop rather harshly. "And here I thought I was your favourite customer," She says slightly dejected, pulling out a small pouch of coins from her waist. "How about this? I give you half of this, and the next time I sail in, I'll bring you two double-edged axes?" She offers, loosening the string that was keeping the pouch sealed and flashing Sindri a toothy smile.
Sindri's eyes narrowed at the girl, one of his fists balling as he study's her for a long moment. An air of silence dragged on between the two of them before he came to his final decision. "How do I know you’re not just going to fly off and never return?" He questions with a glower, an opening statement for something further.
A fake mortified gasp escapes Valkyrie's lips as she brings her hands up, resting them on her chest. "You wound me Sindri," She states, closing her eyes like she was crying. Bringing a hand up to wipe at a nonexistent tear, she says, "And here I thought we have built some trust up over the years."
The man across from her rolled his eyes with a huff before he shook his head with a grin stretching across his face. "I’d be in safer hands while wrestling with a Nightfury than putting any trust in you. But fine, I'll take you up on that deal," He mutters. His agreement got a crooked grin slipping onto Valkyrie's face as she raised her chin slightly in accomplishment. "But if you don't return in two moons, I'll be putting a bounty on your head."
The thing with Sindri is that he totally would, which only made Valkyrie grin more. "I'll be back in three then," She said, emptying half of her coin pouch onto the countertop as she pulled another brown bag from her waist. This time the bag was empty, and a lot bigger than the last as she started to load the Hideous Zippleback gas canisters into her bag.
Sindri only looked slightly amused at her words as he tested each of the coins, roughly gauging how much each of them weighed. Valkyrie attached the bag of items back to her hip as he did this, waiting until he had finished the task and put them into his own pouch. "Is there anything else you might need before you vanish without a trace again?" He questions.
"I think this is all I need for the moment," Valkyrie says, her eyes going distant as she racks her brain for any other possible items she could need for the next following days. She couldn't picture any dire situations arising where she would have to prepare for, everything already thought out in her own mind as they had repeated this process a number of times. The only reason she was buying the Zippleback gas was because she would be going in solo and she would be dealing with a larger number the usual.
Sindri gave her a sad nod. "I'll see you next time you decide to grace the aisle with your presence." He comments, lighting up with a grin before he is turning to a new customer—or maybe it was the person he abandoned to talk to Valkyrie.
Turning away from the stall, Valkyrie begins her way back through the trading village. She kept her head high as she began to weave through the different stalls, a steady eye on anyone who decided to get too close for her liking.
A certain thing that came with the Northern Markets is that there is a large number of dragon hunters always running around getting weapons fixed or buying new custom traps to help them capture dragons that they would later sell to a select few from this very island. It never mattered how much she attempted to avoid them when on the island so she gave up long ago, accepting the fact there was no getting around it.
So when a certain hunter clad in dragon hide started to approach her, there was nothing Valkyrie could do except hide her finds and ready herself for conflict.
Keeping her head held up, she planned to walk past the man, keeping her eyes from the mace hanging at his hip where his hand was starting to itch for. But as she passed a hand shot out, fingers enclosing tightly around her upper arm. Valkyrie was instantly on the defence, a hand shooting to her hip where a broken down sword lay wrapped around her waist. With a hiss, Valkyrie spoke, “Can I help you?”
“Do I recognise ya?” The man spoke, spit flying from his mouth.
“I would hope not,” Valkyrie started. “Now, if you would be so kind as to get your filthy hand off of me, I would be glad to let you leave with all your limbs intact.”
The two stood off, neither being the first to back down. As Valkyrie’s hand slid forward, fingers wrapping around the loose handle of her broken-down sword, another hand came shooting out and wrapping around her shoulder. “Why don’t we all take it easy for a second.”
Turning to see who had spoken, Valkyrie’s eyes landed on a tall boy with auburn hair and pale green eyes. He didn’t look directly at Valkyrie, his eyes instead focused on the hunter that she had previously been threatening.
“Mind your own business boy. This doesn’t concern you,” The hunter spoke with a sneer, attempting to pull Valkyrie closer towards him but when Valkyrie didn’t budge, the hold that the boy had on her keeping her grounded, he let go.
“Oh, I’m terribly sorry. Of course, this is between you and this helpless lady,” The boy said, releasing Valkyrie as he raises both hands in an act of surrender.
Valkyrie’s head whipped around to face the nameless boy, eyes wide with her top lip curling up. “Helpless?” Her voice rose an octave, once again her hand shooting down to where the handle of her sword rested.
The boy flashed Valkyrie a sideways glance with an almost pleading look on his face before he turned back to the hunter. “It’s just, I didn’t want to see anything break out when it was so clear that she wouldn’t be walking away as steady as she came in.”
The hunter pondered the boy’s words, face slowly starting to light up. “Aren’t you the chivalrous type?” The man huffed out before turning away, casting one last fleeting glance at Valkyrie before flashing his teeth and blending into the crowd and fleeing from Valkyrie’s sight.
Valkyrie glared at the man even long after he vanished from her sight. Only when she was sure he was gone did she turn to the nameless boy, putting an end to his stuttering responses as one of Valkyrie’s hands slammed into his chest. “I could have handled that myself,” She scorned, going in for a second shove where the boy’s hands mixed with hers, trying to deter their path. “And come on, a helpless lady who can’t fight her own battles? You couldn’t come up with a slightly more justifying cause?”
“It’s the first thing I could think of,” Came the strangled response from the boy, his grip tight as he stopped Valkyrie from pulling her hands away where she would most likely go in for another hit. “I didn’t exactly think of a plan when I came over.”
“You clearly didn’t think much if you had the bright idea to come over here in the first place,” Valkyrie snapped, tugging her hands free in a quick pull, making the unknown boy stumble and fall towards Valkyrie.
Valkyrie quickly raised her arms, bracing herself as the boy collided with her. A soft grunt escaped her lips at the close proximity of the two of them. “Uh hi?”
Valkyrie’s eyes narrowed at the boy’s words, their eyes meeting through the gaps in her arms. “Bye,” Valkyrie said in return, shoving the boy back one last time before turning on her heel, not caring for the startled yelp that came from the boy as she walked away. She told herself as she left, ready to disappear from the island and the views of the world once more, “I don’t have time for this.”
“It was nice meeting you too,” The boy called out after Valkyrie and said girl found herself gritting her teeth at the sound of hurried footsteps running after her. As the nameless boy came to her side, falling into step with her as they walked through the markets, he said, “I’m Hiccup by the way.”
“And I didn’t ask for that knowledge nor do I care for it,” Valkyrie said, earning a soft chuckle from Hiccup in return.
“Normally when someone gives you their name, there's an unspoken rule that you are meant to give it to them in return,” Hiccup said, gesturing loosely with his hands out in front of him, quickly drawing Valkyrie’s eyes to them and the leather cuffs wrapped around his wrists. “And, I mean, I did kind of save you from a fight with a dragon hunter.”
“Something which I didn’t ask you to do,” Valkyrie stated. But at the sight of Hiccup's dejected face, one of his hands bounding up to scratch the back of his neck, Valkyrie find herself speaking without her conscious permission. Turning her head straight and keeping her eyes off the other boy she said, “But if you must know, my name is Valkyrie.”
“Like one of Odin’s warriors?” Hiccup quickly questioned, his face lighting up as he put two and two together.
“Yes, like Odion’s warriors,” Valkyrie muttered, shaking her head as she answered the common question aimed her way once she revealed her namesake.
“Did your parents know you would be just as fierce as a Valkyrie when choosing a name for you?” Hiccup asked another question, seeming to have several more lined up for her to answer.
“More like vicious,” Valkyrie commented. “And I think they trained it into me when I was younger. Had to look at the world as a proper Viking one way or another.”
HIccup’s thick brows furrowed but he chose not to say anything. “What brings you the Nothern Markets?” He tracked back, changing the topic quickly. Before Valkyrie could say anything, Hiccup's head swivelled to the side, something catching his attention from another stall. Valkyrie was about to use these few seconds of distraction to slip away when Hiccup's head came swirling back towards her, large green eyes staring at her expectedly.
“Originally, before I got ambushed by two Vikings?” Valkyrie questioned, hiding a smile at the sheepish look that flickered over Hiccup's face first before a stubborn fierceness took over his eyes. Valkyrie quickly cut him off before he could once again go into why he had to help. “I came here for the same reason anyone else would. To trade and gather.”
Hiccup slowly nodded his head, wringing his arms back and forth and preparing to say something before a loud bang caught both of their attention, two heads of blonde hair fleeing from the scene. “Oh Thor, not those two,” Hiccup mumbled, dragging a hand down his face before looking back to Valkyrie. “You wouldn't be willing to wait here for me, would you?”
“No promises,” Valkyrie shrugged.
“Yeah,” A soft sigh escaped Hiccup's lips. “I didn’t think so.”

The Discovery
A/n: So, I originally was almost done writing this when I wanted to change the music I was listening to rq, meaning I had to switch my tabs, and Tumblr decided to not save my draft 🥸?(It hasn't done that before I literally did it so many times when writing this lol.) I had to write it all over again. Hopefully this came out how I wanted it to because I was really liking how it was going.
Warnings: Mentions of being wounded, being taken by a dragon, other than that it should be good.
Hiccup x !Fem oc!
Next chapter,
Fire encompassed the isle of Berk, bringing smoke along with it, as the cries of vikings alerting one another filled the air. Dragons and disaster had become a nearly normal expectation for those inhabiting Berk, though it was by no means pleasant.
One, perhaps two, young vikings seemed out of place even in the midst of such chaos. Their small frames could barely be seen through the surrounding smoke that began to cover the island like mist. Their footsteps barely reached their own ears as they ran deeper into the forest of the outskirts of Berk, farther away from the "main attractions."
"Haddock, what do you think you're doing?" Evelynn, the other young viking, spat out harshly, pushing away any remaining ferns and leaves in her way. The path ahead of her was already bumpy, but the moon only provided so much light that she could barely see her hands in front of her own face.
"Evelynn, I already told you! I just need to get this shot. Then, this dragon can help me get everything I ever wanted." Hiccup, the short and skinny "viking" she was following quickly answered her, not slowing down his pace as he hauled his “new invention" towards the place he planned on taking down the night fury everyone was trying to avoid.
He quickly glanced back at the girl chasing after him, concerned for her safety as she nearly tripped on a tree root that stuck out from the ground, but the adrenaline quickening his body to keep running was taking over his mind as he continued rushing towards the destined area.
She knew that she didn't have to, but when she caught Hiccup running towards the area where most vikings weren't at, Evelynn felt the need to make sure he didn't accidentally fall off a cliff to his death. She struggled to see his already fragile figure as he darted past every bush and obstacle before she found herself tripping over another tree root that caught her off guard.
Within the first few seconds she had, she quickly put her hands out to at least shield her face from the fall, her head nearly missing the ground. "Hiccup, you'll pay for this...!" Evelynn muttered, crumpling up the rough patch of grass underneath her fingers. She hadn't yet noticed the other pair of footsteps approaching her, too focused on the amount of pain creeping up on her leg. It felt like a chore just trying to stand as she leaned against the tree she fell on, her eyes scanning the area around her.
If it weren't for a quick glance in the direction, Evelynn wouldn't have noticed the movement against a nearby bush, as if someone or something had walked through it. She, however, found no culprit for it to be so. She knew the unsaid rules of a viking: never be scared, always show that you're strong and tough even when you're not - but the feeling of uneasiness started to fill her in a way she couldn't ignore it.
Her head turned back to the direction where she and Hiccup came from, the village still on fire as vikings struggled to put out the fires that dangerously swept across most of the land. Once again, something caught her attention, stirring her away from looking at the place she called home, having heard a stick being crushed before seeing a large figure approach her from the darkness, the threatening growl it gave shook Evelynn to her core. Suddenly, the pain in her leg was as if it was never there as fear started to cloud her mind, seeing this dragon supposedly come out of thin air.
The white scales of the beast before her glimmered in the little moonlight that was provided, its color standing out in the midst of the gloomy forest as a dangerous confidence radiated from its eyes. Evelynn felt her breath hitch as she held out her hand in front of her, trying to put some distance between her and the beast. Its steps were ordered as if it had finally caught its prey and the young girl knew she wouldn't be escaping anytime soon.
It was as if all the training on how to be a viking was blotted out of her mind as she took a few shaking steps backwards. Bravery was something she was starting to be known for in Berk, but with the white-scaled dragon approaching her, Evelynn couldn't find it in herself to fake that anymore.
Despite knowing the danger this creature carried, she couldn't help but let her gaze travel across the whole dragon. She acknowledged that, if what she learned over the years was correct, night furies were supposed to be dark, if not darker, than the midnight sky above her. The one approaching her, however, was practically glowing white as its eyes narrowed at Evelynn. The beast seemed to notice that she wasn't attempting to bring any harm to it either, making its nose twitch in confusion.
She found herself in a daze as her eyes stared right back into the eyes of the dragon before her. They were swirling with a shade of green remarkable to the forest around them both, not noticing the explosion that had just occurred on another house, making the shouts of vikings become even louder. Evelynn didn't seem to notice; all of her senses were focused on the large creature who was also intently gazing at her. She noticed its eyes widen ever so slightly with curiosity now that it realized she wasn't doing anything. The dragon's tail swayed to the left, then to the right, as it continued to make cautious and calming steps towards the shaking girl.
Evelynn thought she heard her name be called, but it was like her ears went deaf for the mere moment of looking at the small spikes that decorated the dragon, soon leaving her to be entranced by the slight glimmer its scales brought. Her hand no longer trembled dramatically as it did when she first laid eyes on the beast before her as she slowed down her steps, which made the dragon do the same.
"Evelynn!" The sound of leaves being ruffled and a pair of footsteps coming in her direction finally snapped her out of whatever daze she was put in and she quickly turned her head to see her father rushing to the spot she stood in. Her heart began to beat faster than it already was, worry paralyzing her for a moment before she held out her hand, signaling for him to stop.
"Dad! Wait!" The dragon, sensing her distress and fear, although misinterpreting it, lowly growled and spread out its wings, hovering over Evelynn to grab her by her small shoulders. Her father yelled, his battle axe ready in hand as he tried to get to his daughter.
Evelynn had felt pain before, yes, but when the dragon had hauled her up in the air with it, its claws had sunken into her skin more than what she was comfortable with, leaving her with an agonizing stinging sensation throughout her whole body. She struggled against the grip of the beast that was now bringing her higher up in the air, making it impossible for her to even try and jump off.
"Dad!" Evelynn cried out to her father, tears brimming her eyes as she saw her father still running to her. The last thing she saw before her vision went black, was the look of fear and grief in his eyes as she was carried off, as if she had already died in front of his face.
--------------------------------------
Hiccup had been called many things in his life, he was "anything but a dragon killer" as his father, Stoick, had put it. He found himself sticking to that phrase even now as the chief of Berk stood before him on the ship that gently swayed to the waves of the ocean below them.
The enemy they were facing this time around was stubborn and "couldn't be reasoned with." Hiccup didn't seem to mind it as he mounted Toothless, seeing the frustration and worry his father's eyes held. The story of Drago hadn't discouraged him from still trying to change his mind once he found him, even though almost everyone doubted his intentions.
"This is what I'm good at. A-and if I can change your mind, I can change his too." Hiccup gazed at his father, pleadingly and silently asking him to let him carry out his plan. "C'mon." He quickly motioned to Toothless as they flew off the ship, leaving the questioning gazes of his family behind.
--------------------------------------
If Hiccup had been in any other situation, he would've considered the view to be breathtaking. Toothless steadily flew above the clouds, which illuminated a soft orange glow from the setting sun before them. It was quiet, nothing bothered them, and it was supposed to be a peaceful moment.
The thoughts of Drago and his father, Berk, the dragons, and every other thing that made him angry seemed to fill his mind, leaving him no room to calm down. Not having the strength to hold all of his emotions inside anymore, Hiccup vainly punched the air, yelling out in frustration as he fell back on his dragon.
Toothless voiced his concerns with a confused grumble as Hiccup weakly patted him near his wing. "Don't worry, bud. I won't let anything happen to you, I promise." His gaze fixed on the sky above them, trying to calm himself down as the night fury glanced below them, seeing a strange figure approaching. He cautiously growled, simultaneously letting Hiccup know something was happening.
Though his view was focused on what was above him, he still could make out a figure coming to his vision and he groaned in annoyance, sitting up as he waved his hands in anger, "Oh, c'mon dad, really?" Both he and Toothless flinched as they saw the stranger hovering in the clouds with them, quickly realizing that it wasn't anyone he knew.
Hiccup couldn't find the words to speak as the figure slowly descended back into the clouds below them, leaving another eery silence in the air. "Okay, no sudden moves.." His hand found its way to Toothless' head as he scanned their surroundings, his nerves spiking as he found nothing.
The quietness was soon interrupted as Toothless' abruptly stopped mid-flight as another dragon soared above them, its size intimidatingly larger than the night fury. Hiccup could do nothing but watch as the stranger encircled them, standing confidently on the dragon who roared at them as if to warn them not to do anything. It wasn't as if they could anyway, the clouds started to rise up like smoke due to the constant flapping of the dragon's wings, making it difficult to see anything but what was in front of them.
He didn't see it at first, but when Hiccup heard another roar from a different dragon, he glanced at the second figure who appeared from the clouds, the white-scaled dragon sticking out in the midst of the orange glow that surrounded them all. In a mere moment, he felt his breath hitch. If his eyes weren't lying to him, that looked very similar to the night fury he rode, the one he thought to be the only one left in existence. Only, this one was the complete opposite to the name of "night" fury. Its pale white scales glistened in the sunlight as its eyes narrowed at the young chief-to-be.
"Hold on, hold on!" Hiccup didn't have time to register that the first stranger had waved their staff, signalling for more dragons he didn't know was coming. His gaze finally settled on the stranger who was occupying the white night fury, seeing that they had on armor of some sorts with the same color as the dragon, their mask hiding any clue of who they might be.
Toothless had been too focused on the threat in front of them to notice the ones quickly approaching from behind, as he noticed a second too late, the dragon swiftly picking up Hiccup in its paws as he cried out in distress.
"Toothless!" Hiccup could only watch as his dragon helplessly fell to the ice-cold depths below them, the water growing closer to the night fury with each passing second. Worry gripped his heart as Toothless fell beneath the ice that covered a certain part of the waters, his eyes brimming with tears as he knew that his dragon would drown on his own.
He hadn't noticed the rider on the white night fury stand up just as the other one had, pity starting to fill her as she watched the young man struggle against the grip of the dragon who began to carry him to their base. She knew other dragons would come for the night fury, but she still couldn't help and glance at the other stranger, knowing she would understand what she was thinking.
The only response she got was another wave of their staff as they all began to fly towards their destination. The rider offered one more glance towards the night fury who struggled against the waves of the water. She knew that the ice wouldn't be any help with its struggle, but she counted on the dragons who would soon bring him where they wished, which was to safety.
"Hey! You left my dragon back there! He can't fly on his own, he'll drown!" Hiccup tried wriggling out of the grip of the one who carried him through the fog that suddenly surrounded them as he kept trying to see if Toothless was at least alive.
The strangers gave no response, still steadily flying to wherever they were taking him. The white night fury glided faster ahead of the first stranger, now leading them to a cave covered in dangerous spikes of ice, as they suddenly disappeared with a blast similar to Toothless'. Hiccup's heart raced with a continuous fear as they dove into the darker regions of the cave and finally let him go, rolling on the floor as he got up as quickly as possible.
"Hey! We have to head back for my dragon..!" He didn't fully care that he was surrounded by a whole group of other ones at the moment, his mind solely focused on getting Toothless' back alive.
As he continued to look around for the two strangers in hopes that they would have a change of heart, a dragon had come too close for his liking as he stumbled back. The gears in his mind shifted to the part he knew best as he quickly grabbed Inferno, slowly waving it in a circular motion as the dragons became entranced by it. After a few seconds of success, one of the dragons seemed to challenge Hiccup, showing itself uninterested in the flames, as he began to encircle himself with the gas the sword carried. A small spark went off, lightening the area around him for a moment before he reached out one of his hands towards a dragon, their eyes wide in wonder.
He hadn't noticed the stranger who was observing the whole scene behind him as they suddenly swung their staff, making it rattle as a distant roaring could be heard, making Hiccup turn around to find Toothless being dropped on the ground beside him. Nothing but relief filled him as he ran towards his dragon as he shouted, "Toothless!"
The night fury looked weary as he stood up, gently rubbing his head against Hiccup who embraced him as much as he could. "It's okay, it's okay, it's okay. I'm glad to see you too, bud. You really had me worried there.." His hands gently rubbed his dragon's head, turning to face the stranger. "Who.. are you? Where is your...friend?" He said as he couldn't find the second person anywhere in sight. "Are you Drago, uh, Bludvist..?"
The stranger said nothing as they glanced at the dragons behind them, slightly shaking their staff once more as it rattled while they opened their mouths. Flames of fire started to light up the room as Hiccup scanned them all, noticing they were only using it as a light while the stranger started to step towards him. Hiccup felt Toothless wrap his tail around him as the stranger boldly approached the night fury as they lowered themselves to the floor, dropping their staff and shield as he wondered if he should allow Toothless to attack this person or not. He didn't have to make that choice, apparently, as his dragon suddenly fell on his back, purring in delight as the stranger gently glided their hand along his chin while still trying to reach Hiccup.
"Gee, thanks." Once again struggling to find the words to speak, all he could do was try and avoid the hand that was reaching up to his face, uncomfortable at the short amount of distance he and the stranger had before he heard them gasp underneath their mask, quickly recoiling their hand as they knelt on the ground.
"Hiccup..?" The voice spoke as she lifted her mask off, revealing an older woman with similar features that he carried. Confusion was plastered over Hiccup's face as he narrowed his eyes at her. "C-could it be? After all of these years.." She paused, her eyes slightly widening as if fully realizing the situation she was in. "How is this possible..?"
Hiccup stuttered as he tried to make reason for what was happening, "Uhm, should I - should I know you..?" He carefully watched her as she sighed, her shoulder slumping slightly and her gaze locking onto the floor as she considered her answer.
"No... you were only a babe.. and Ev-" She hesitated, catching herself as she shook her head lightly before slowly finding Hiccup's eyes once more, who managed to catch the mess up in her sentence. "But a mother never forgets.."
Silence clung to the air before Hiccup's breath got caught in his throat as his eyes widened as if he were about to scream. Thankfully, the woman held out her hand, gently shushing him not to make any sudden noise or movements for the sake of the dragons. She glanced to the direction she originally sat, finally seeing a small glimpse of the other rider that disappeared. She knew that she was there the whole time, but what made her want to be invisible with her dragon was something she couldn't figure out.
Knowing she probably didn't want to be seen still, she quickly motioned to Hiccup, who was still struggling not to choke on his own shock. "Come..!"
She swiftly left in a different direction, making Hiccup staggering to catch up to her as Toothless sniffed the air, his eyes going to a corner in the room. His eyes widened in curiosity as he found the white "night" fury carefully standing next to another stranger who still had their mask on. When they noticed his gaze they quickly ran in a different direction, making Toothless start to go after them before Hiccup called him.
"Toothless! C'mon, bud! We need to go!" The shock in his voice could still be heard even to the dragon as he bolted after Hiccup, forgetting about his original intention.
--------------------------------------
"That was a close one, Aurora... Too close." The girl muttered underneath her mask as she watched Toothless run off in the direction Hiccup had run with his newly discovered mother. The dragon beside her grumbled with curiosity as she wanted to go with them too. She watched with wide eyes as the rider took off her mask, revealing slightly messy light brown hair that cascaded just below her shoulders.
"I'm not ready to face him again just yet.." Evelynn mumbled, gently patting her dragons head with worry filling her eyes.
