ULTIMATE Realistic Money overhaul | Roleplay Guide | The sims 3

Introduction:

Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel! In today's video I'm going to show you how to overhaul the sims 3 economy, how to have complete control over your billing system, and how to have a more realistic money exchange mechanic! We will also be exploring how to go about a much more realistic renting/mortgage system. This guide has been a long time coming, it's very simple and beginner friendly, but to find all the mods it would take to set this up would be a pain for anyone trying to revamp their sims economy. I've playtested this mod setup for a couple of years, and I can never go back to the original EA economy and billing system. All of these mods work with each other in a synergy circle, they compliment, play off of, and enhance one another. All links will be included in my tumblr guide, and the comment leading to my tumblr guide will be pinned in the comments below. I recommend following alongside the guide and the video, especially if you do not speak english, so you can translate the guide to your native language, while still being able to follow along the video! If I am talking too slowly for you I highly recommend everyone to increase the video speed to x2, and slow it down at certain parts you need extra focus on. Don't worry, I won't be offended at all by this, I do it myself for tutorial videos.

First - Overhaul the sims economy.

No bills

First we need to get rid of the EA billing system. This is because we are going to add new mods that introduce much more realistic billing and rental mechanics. This also eliminates some core issues with the EA billing system. Such as having a large piece of land, but a tiny house, and your bills being upwards of 40k every couple of days. Utilities not being calculated properly. And being billed more because of your more expensive items on your lot. Since we are also overhauling the sims economy, the original EA calculations wouldn't make any sense anymore.

EVM Career Wages

This mod adds a much more realistic financial wage system. Since we have now removed EA bills, our sims wages need to be able to reflect the more realistic economy we are going for. Gone are the days of every Sim earning a fortune with a mere $45 per hour entry-level job. This mod adjusts the wages across all career levels to align with real-world standards, creating a more immersive gameplay experience.

With EVM Career Wages, climbing the career ladder feels genuinely rewarding as higher pay accompanies each promotion. This encourages players to strive for advancement and invest in their Sims' professional growth. Additionally, when paired with the UC mod, promotions become more challenging to attain, placing greater emphasis on the player's decisions and strategic gameplay.

Revamped Economy Essentials:

With Camo's Fairer Priced Groceries and Books alongside Camo's Tweaked Goods, the Sims 3 economy undergoes a significant transformation. These combined mods slash the prices of commonly purchased items, bringing a newfound sense of realism to the game. No longer will a single egg set you back $11; now, it's a mere $2, making grocery shopping a more authentic experience. The same principle applies to book prices, ensuring that essential items are now more affordable for Sims across the board.

This overhaul becomes even more impactful when paired with the Savvier Seller mod, which ensures that prices are not only reasonable for your household but also for the entire neighborhood. This adds a more balanced and lifelike economy, where every Sim can afford the necessities without breaking the bank.

Realistic Transportation Fees:

Combining the Taxi Charge and Simsmathew Subway Charger mods introduces a new level of realism to transportation in The Sims 3. Each time your Sims opt for a taxi ride or subway journey, they'll incur a small fee. This adds a layer of financial consideration, prompting players to rethink their Sims' commuting habits.

Immersive roleplaying opportunities emerge as players strategize the best way to navigate their Sims from point A to point B. Whether it's opting for eco-friendly methods like walking or biking, or planning a journey that involves a mix of walking and subway rides, every choice impacts your Sims' budget and experience.

This deeper level of engagement allows players to connect with their Sims on a more personal level, experiencing the journey alongside them and enjoying the rich scenery and interactions along the way. Now you'll be pushed to experience y

New Billing System:

The tax collector mod essentially allows you to create your own billing and taxing system. This mod introduces a scripted computer interface with customizable settings, allowing players to seamlessly implement various taxes and fees. From water and electricity bills to health insurance premiums and car payments, Sims will autonomously be directed to settle these financial obligations once the tax settings are activated.

For an added layer of realism and roleplay, consider situating these computers at opened rabbithole like the city hall. This not only streamlines your Sim's outing tasks but also enriches the gameplay experience, allowing players to engage in more dynamic and immersive storytelling.

I'm going to go in game and show you how I achieve this effect for a very quick and easy tutorial.

So because we turned off the EA billing system, we need to create our own bills, to still simulate having to lose money through our gameplay. You can place these new tax computers on an opened city hall rh lot (if you don't care for aesthetic then I recommend placing these in the basement), or another community lot altogether. Please note that if you place these computers on a cityhall RH lot, and you enable UC mod on that lot, you should lock the doors leading to the tax computers. This is because with SonyaJu's UC version, the sims working on the lot will be pushed to use the computers which will result in all of your sims being sent to pay their taxes throughout the day. You can lock community doors using Nraas Go Here, or nona lock community doors mod as an alternative.

Now that we have set up our computers, you click the settings and rename the computer. Rename this to any bill you want to pay. Here I am setting up a, Water, Electric, Phone bill, Car note, and Car insurance computer. Now I can click on tax collector > settings > edit multiplier.

Water = 0.8

Electric = 0.4

Phone - 0.2

Car note = 0.5

Car insurance = 0.6

these multipliers automatically calculate what you currently have available in your sims household funds, and deducts the "tax" based off of the multiplier. This adds a more logical calculations to what each individual household could actually afford, without being too overbearing on your funds loss. This make a much more realistic and immersive billing system actually possible in the game, that fixes a lot of the issues with EA billing system, and matches the new sims economy we have created with this combination of mods.

Which leads me to my next part. I pay all of these bills monthly in my game. This adds a much more immersive and realistic experience, and I even have to keep an eye on my sims budget throughout the month, like in real life. Sometimes, I may have to sell things or find any way to make extra money to pay my new bills, or pick which bill I have to pay if I can't afford them all. I give myself consequences if I can't afford certain things. When I show you how to use the new renting system, I'll even roleplay getting evicted as a consequence if I can't afford my rent.

Enhancement Miscellaneous Mods:

The collection of these next mods serve to either rectify the Sims economy hiccups or introduce a fresh layer of roleplay, prompting players to reassess their spending habits and EP career choices.

Some of these mods make purchasing certain items actually reusable like bubble bath products and painting supplies. While others make certain careers have higher payouts which makes the wages for that career make more sense and become more satisfying so you'd actually want to work at it. This also enhances rags-to-riches playthroughs, rendering them more intricate and gratifying.

For instance, with these mods combined, the necessity for pets to rely on manually refilled food bowls instead of random props elevates pet care to a level akin to caring for a toddler. This makes having a pet a lot more impactful in your household, as well as financially.

In general, all of these mods balance back out certain EA default settings, which slowly begins to push together a more and more realistic economy.

This introduces a compelling dynamic for players who wish to roleplay scenarios involving relationships with wealthier partners, where child support checks become a lifeline for sustaining the family's livelihood, as an example.

Furthermore, Sims can now apply for various forms of assistance such as health insurance and Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT), opening up new avenues for navigating the challenges of financial hardship within the game. These additions inject a newfound sense of complexity and realism into rags-to-riches playthroughs, providing players with additional gameplay mechanics to consider and explore. You'll find yourself embarking on a journey of resilience and resourcefulness as you guide your Sims through the highs and lows of economic adversity in the game.

If you are following my guide step by step consider applying these tweaks to the xml's.

As an added note, I no longer add a health insurance tax collector computer, as with MonocoDoll's new GA mod poorer sims can get affordable health care, and sims who do not qualify for this have a good job where I imagine the job offers it's own health insurance instead. So because of this new mod addition, this eliminates the need to set up health insurance payments for my households.

These mods revolutionizes the Sims' job acquisition process, enhancing realism and depth. This also enhances the effectiveness of attending university. Without a degree, Sims may struggle to secure certain jobs and will always start at entry level.

The mod introduces a comprehensive interview and application process, typically lasting about an hour in-game, during which Sims disappear into the rabbit hole. Sims can attend resume building and interview classes to improve their chances of employment, mimicking real-life strategies. Uploading a resume, particularly a University Life degree, significantly boosts job prospects.

Maintaining cleanliness, hunger, and a positive mood is crucial as neglecting these factors decreases the likelihood of job offers. The "check for work" option allows Sims to scout for job openings beyond the replaced job hunting UI.

Lemonaise's 50 Jobs Offer expands job opportunities, reflecting the realistic scenario where obtaining desired employment may require starting elsewhere. Just as in real life, a degree does not guarantee the desired job immediately, necessitating patience and flexibility in career pursuits.

This mod combination adds layers of realism and challenges, making Sims' lives more expansive and rewarding. Achieving dream jobs becomes a testament to perseverance and hard work, enhancing the sense of accomplishment for players.

Ani's job board

Ani's Job Board introduces a WA-inspired board object that fills the gap left by missing opportunities in UC mod. With UC's scripted behaviors for work, some autonomous opportunities were removed. However, this mod remedies the situation by providing Sims with a platform to browse and undertake additional work and school opportunities. Now, players have the autonomy to choose whether to pursue these extra projects, adding depth and flexibility to their Sims' lives.

Nraas Careers

Nraas Careers is a mod that expands the possibilities for Sims by enabling custom careers and establishing a homeworld university. While the details of setting up a homeworld university can be explored in another video, this guide focuses on how this mod integrates custom career opportunities with UC. With Nraas Careers, players can seamlessly bind custom careers to EA careers, unlocking a wealth of new professional paths for their Sims within the game. What this means in basic terms, is that UC works by adding a number of objects sims use on a lot, to increase their work/school performance. If you are playing as a custom career, UC won't know which objects can increase that careers performance if the career hasn't been bonded to an EA career.

Sonja's UC

Sonja's UC is an enhanced iteration of Zerbu's UC mod, designed to optimize the original mod's scripting for improved performance and stability. While still a work in progress and subject to occasional issues, this update enhances the main features of the mod, resulting in faster and smoother gameplay. Sims now spend less time deliberating their actions, experience reduced lag before heading to work, and are not as rigidly constrained to complete tasks. Instead, they are encouraged to take breaks and socialize, mirroring real workplace dynamics.

Although ongoing testing is underway, I recommend trying out this version as it also introduces additional modded script objects to careers. Setting up the mod in-game is straightforward and can be easily demonstrated.

On the Screen, will be a selection of miscellaneous mods that enrich your gameplay experience by introducing custom playable careers and intricately scripted mechanics.

With these mods, you can immerse yourself in diverse professions such as modeling, flower arranging, or managing a home-based Etsy-style knitting business. Additionally, you have the opportunity to delve into the legal world as an attorney or explore the unique avenue of earning money through litigation against other Sims and establishments.

For those inclined towards risk and excitement, Phoebejaysims' Betting mod allows for a full-time gambling lifestyle, leveraging specific store objects to enhance the thrill of the game.

These mods significantly expand the scope of gameplay possibilities, offering players a plethora of new career paths and immersive money mechanics to explore and enjoy.

Third - Biggest gameplay changes and fixes

Bank mod

Otherwise known as the non-core global banking mod, this mod is a game-changer in how you manage money in The Sims. This mod allows you to establish a bank account for your Sims, complete with essential banking functionalities like deposits, withdrawals, and money transfers.

I'll guide you through setting up a new renting and mortgage system in-game, offering alternative perspectives on cash handling, including household funds versus bank account funds. Additionally, I'll show you how to separate all Sims' incomes and present an edited version where the bank account resembles a debit card in your Sims' inventory.

Let's dive into these transformative features that will revolutionize your Sims' financial management experience.

How to make a bank account.

Simply click on a computer, whether on your home lot or community lot. Navigate to online banking interaction > Open Account. $25 will be deducated automatically, and you will have a new bank account in your sims inventory.

How to create a landlord.

Simply select any sim you would like to be your new landlord. Using Nraas MC > Make Active, you can then open a bank account for the selected sim you've chosen to be your landlord.

How to pay rent.

Once the bank account has been sucessfully opened you can go back to your original active household. Then select the bank account in your sims inventory > Transfers, if you are friends with the landlord then select "Sims you know", if you are not friends with them then select "in your neighborhood". Navigate the list to find your new landlord, then send them your rent or mortgage for the month.

How to separate income.

Using this banking system I separate my sims money by having their bank account as their debit card and their household funds as their cash on hand. I typically, split up the funds reasonably between everyone's bank account in the household. This leaves $0 in the household funds. Once a sim is done with their work day, the exact amount of money they made for the day will go straight into your household funds. From there, I deposit that money into their bank account. It only takes a couple of seconds and is very simple.

As an added note, when sending the sims out and about in the world, I'll need the money from their account in the household funds so that they are able to spend money. So I quickly withdraw a random amount of money I think they will need for the outing, allowing them to actually buy what they want from the community lots. For extra immersion, consider adding a deco ATM machine, to simulate where your sims would be withdrawing their money from.

Just as promised, I told you how I would roleplay an eviction process, using this new renting system. If my sims cannot pay the rent, and they ask their landlord to an outing, if the landlord does not have a good time then I only get 1 sim month to leave the home or pay rent for both months. If the landlord does have a good time, then I imagine they allowed me to skip my rent payment for that month. If I still don't have rent money by the end of the month, I move my sim to a 10x10 empty lot somewhere in the world, and have my sim live out of a tent, or shady motel (set as a base camp), until I can afford to move into another home. If I choose to live in a motel, while the base camps are free to stay in, I create a custom role titled "Motel front desk", open that sim a bank account, and then pay them $100 weekly, while this is still a payment it is much cheaper than my sims rent that we couldn't afford, and still allows me to roleplay money being lost. If I don't have to be completely homeless then I won't, if I have $0, then I will.

Nraas Consigner and Nraas Register are essential mods that address the shortcomings of the register systems in the base game. Consigner enhances gameplay by introducing the option to make all items consignable, simulating a realistic thrift store or pawn shop experience. Meanwhile, Register adds extra checks to ensure Sims are correctly assigned, along with providing additional population controls beyond the capabilities of Story Progression. Whether or not you utilize other mods, these fixes are indispensable for enhancing your gameplay experience.

@olomaya on Tumblr is currently developing an innovative new renting system for the game, which promises to offer Simmers a wide array of options for money roleplaying. This upcoming system represents a significant evolution in gameplay mechanics, potentially replacing older systems and providing fresh opportunities for immersive financial management.

George adjusted his go pro which was strapped to his chest as the Sidemen buzzed around him, each sorting out their gear for their latest video: a race across the UK. He’d been invited to join as a guest, he had been an increasing presence on the channel and he absolutely loved it. To his surprise—and slight horror—he’d been paired with Harry and Millie Harper, a rising YouTuber known for her travel vlogs and infectious laugh. Max who was his podcast co host had hinted multiple times George had a small things for her, something George had denied but always had blushed profusely. Chris had also stirred the pot asking both of them to a shoot and trying to convince his housemate to make a move.

Millie was smart, funny, and drop-dead gorgeous. George had been nursing a not-so-secret crush on her ever since they’d crossed paths at a creator event months ago. Now, they’d be spending the next two days in close quarters, and he was both thrilled and terrified.

“Alright, teams!” JJ’s voice boomed over the chaos. “We’ve got four groups. Each team has to make it from Land’s End to John o’ Groats, but no planes. You’ve got £500 and your charm to get there. First one to the finish wins!”

“Right,” Millie said, pulling out the map. “We need to figure out how to maximize this cash. Cheap petrol, cheap food, maybe hitch a ride if we can.”

George nodded, trying to focus on logistics and not the fact that her hair smelled like strawberries.

“You’re good at this planning stuff,” George said.

Millie smirked. “I have to be. My subscribers love it when I turn chaos into a masterpiece.”

Harry groaned from the back. “Boring! Let’s just drive until we run out of money and wing it!”

Millie laughed, rolling her eyes. “Classic Harry strategy. What do you think, George?”

“I think we should listen to you,” George said, earning a teasing grin from Millie.

Hours into their journey, the trio stopped at a roadside diner to refuel and grab a bite. As they sat at a booth, Millie pulled out her phone to snap a quick photo of their table.

“Smile, team!” she said, aiming the camera.

George threw up a peace sign while Harry stuffed a fry into his mouth mid-shot. Millie laughed, reviewing the picture.

“You’re such a goof,” she said to George, nudging him playfully.

“You’re one to talk,” George shot back, though his cheeks reddened.

“You’re surprisingly good at driving,” Millie said, glancing at George as he navigated through winding country roads.

The next morning, after a brief overnight stop at a budget motel, it was Millie’s turn to drive. She tied her hair up in a messy bun and pulled out a pair of glasses from her bag, settling them on her nose before adjusting the rearview mirror.

Millie climbed into the passenger seat, leaving George and Harry to squeeze into the cramped truck bed.

Millie stood, offering George a hand. “Come on, dork. Let’s celebrate.”

George took her hand, grinning as they walked back to the group, wondering if maybe, just maybe, this was the start of something more.

opening the front door to the karina wasn’t a privilege everyone got to experience, but y/n always deemed herself lucky. “hey, y/n.” the name fell sweetly from karina’s lips, earning a wide smile and rosy cheeks from the other. “hi, jimin.” she spoke sheepishly with barely contained excitement, elicting a laugh from the idol. “i hope it isn’t too chilly for your outfit.” the older woman spoke with a warm smile and a hint of concern, and y/n felt the coldness drifting away, replaced by a ruthless swarm of butterflies and a rush of wamrth. “nah, it’s fine. should we go?” the student laughed awkwardly, following karina to where her car was stationed.

“i didn’t know idols could drive.” y/n spoke while looking at karina, then back at the central control console. ‘love.’ by wave2earth was playing, and y/n couldn’t hide the smile creeping onto her face. karina’s breathy laughter didn’t add anything but trouble to the compound of nervousness and enthusiasm that was mixing up around her insides. “i usually don’t,” the idol started, slim, manicured fingers flexing against the steering wheel. “but i kinda wanted to impress you.” y/n froze for a moment. was she really talking to karina from aespa? “it’s our first time together, so i have to leave a lasting impression.” the older’s cheeks warmed up, eyes replaced with a softness that hadn’t been there previously. “where are we even going anyway?” the corner of karina’s lips curved slightly, and y/n couldn’t miss it. “you’ll see.”

once the car finally parked, they were no where else other than the han river. it was beautiful — lights illuminating the water and the duo’s faces to frame the perfect scene. after powering down the vehicle and opening the door for her date, an anxious karina fetched the plastic bag and blanket from the trunk. the gears in y/n’s head had finally begun to turn. it was a picnic date. her face beamed with joy and the idol felt her own heartbeat increasing at the sight. “you look really pretty with your bangs parted like that! i’m a forehead y/n defender.” y/n hadn’t even noticed that the wind managed to blow her bangs to the side, but she was secretly thanking the universe that it did. “thank you.” she giggled quietly, rubbing her elbows. it was at this moment when y/n realized why karina was so popular. she was too cute. “i’ll give you my jacket when i finish setting up.” y/n’s eyes widened slightly. “oh, no! it’s fine! there’s no need to, ji—“ she spoke once more, leaving no room for argument. “nuh-uh! i protect you in overwatch, so let me protect you in real life too. it’s not an option, y/n.” y/n mocked the older woman’s words exactly, finding her incredibly nerdy yet attractive in this moment. “i’m the protector! your dumbass just runs in because you know i’ll heal you.” “as if. the amount of times i’ve saved you with a singular headshot on widow??” this only led to more pointless bickering, because jimin was too determined to see how pretty the streamer would look in her jacket.

after everything had been set up by karina (it took her longer because she kept getting distracted by yn), the mood changed drastically and the atmosphere was getting to the both of them. the girls had bhc chicken complimented by soda, lounging on a hello kitty blanket as they watched shinchan on karina’s laptop. though, they mostly talked throughout the whole show. “wait, y/n.” karina turned down the volume, propping her head up onto her elbow. “you really like pnd, right??” y/n slowly nodded in response, hugging karina’s jacket around her slightly smaller frame with a look of faux disgust. “how’d you know that, creep?” karina froze before realizing that she was only joking, shoulders relaxing. “you said it in your most recent youtube video. your editor’s really good. he’s funny.” y/n raised an eyebrow. “i’m my editor, kari—” “jimin! and i didn’t know that. what else are you good at?” she shrugged, playing with the fur of the blanket, discovering that the tag was still on it. had karina bought the rug just for y/n? “this is really, really nice, jimin. thank you.” y/n said, glancing up at the older woman with a grateful smile. has she always been this pretty? “i’ve been kinda stressed lately, so i really needed this.” she concluded. “you don’t need to thank me, y/n. we’re friends, right?” the idol smiled, but y/n wasn’t sure why hearing that word made her heart sink. wasn’t it the truth? “when i’m stressed, or really anything, i come to the han river to clear my head. it always helps me.” she glanced towards the water. just then, y/n realized that karina must have worked really hard to get to the point that not only she was at, but aespa as a whole. she had done a fair share of homework on the group, and it felt like she was speaking with a totally different person at the moment. while y/n did feel closer to her because of this, another part of her felt pushed away. “i’ll have to try that.” was all she could say, basking in the silence and view of the river, sneaking glances of karina’s side profile.

“thank you so much for tonight.” y/n unbuckled her seatbelt, smiling widely at the other. “of course, y/n! i can always make time for you.” and her heart began to race again. but her mind repeatedly reminded her that this isn’t just jimin — this is karina, too. karina, the it girl. the woman she felt like she could never deserve. and her heart began to ache once more. “um, do you think we’re moving too fast?” the woman’s face fell, etched into one of concern before playing it off with a charming smile. “but we’re just friends, though. there’s no such thing as moving too fast with your friends.” that word still strangely hurt the streamer’s heart, but a smile was forced anyway. “no, we’re friends. i was just — nevermind.” she fiddled with her fingers. “i’m gonna go up now. i’ll text you?” and with that, they bid their farewell and y/n found herself sulking in bed like how she was before the idol arrived.

This is not a Wendy's, and my story is not your burger.

A note up front: the following does not refer to the serious issues of racism, anti-Blackness and white supremacy in fandom spaces, which deserves a much more nuanced discussion than a ridiculous food metaphor could ever hope to express. This is a general discussion of fandom standards around tagging and warnings.

Over the three – now nearly four – decades that I've been in fandom, I've seen a lot. I've seen a lot of foolishness, and a metric fuckton of toxicity, and even some good faith, honest debates about how we should conduct ourselves as we move through fannish spaces and interact with one another. So from the start, let me explain that this is not the old lady crabbing at the kids. None of this is particularly new, and fandom culture ebbs and flows. Heigh-ho, nonny nonny, the wheels roll on.

That said, we need to have a talk. Because some people may not be as experienced as the rest of us, and need to understand some fundamental truths about fandom that they may not have picked up, because no one reads Fanlore from top to bottom for fun. That's not inherently a concern. We all learn from one another – I've learned so much from younger people in fandom, particularly here on tumblr – but there are occasions when younger fans could also benefit from some knowledge flowing the other way.

First, fandom is vast. It was huge when I started in the Dark Ages, and it's increased exponentially in the last fifteen to twenty years, since “geek culture” has gone mainstream. That widening of the circle – and more importantly, the naked commercialization of it by media giants who smell our money like vampires in a blood bank – is both a blessing and a curse, because on the one hand, more people who love a thing means more love for everyone! On the other hand, though, I think it's unmoored us in some senses from the fundamental truth that fandom is unhinged, joyful obsession, the fulfilment of a need for communication, creative expression and connection, and most importantly – community.

Yes, fandom is – or should be, at its best – a community first and foremost. And just like any community, it's filled with individuals who form groups, subgroups and cliques. And none of those groups have ever, in the over half a century since the first Star Trek fan made Kirk and Spock fuck, agreed upon one single, overarching view of what 'community' means. Which means the minute you as a fan come striding up to another fan's little electronic nest on the AO3 or Youtube or tumblr demanding that standard X be applied to their fannish creation in the name of 'fandom courtesy' or 'fandom etiquette'? All the old ladies (gn) in fandom realize that you are desperately, painfully new*.

Does that mean that we shouldn't strive to be a community? Of course not. But I would argue that the single and only “rule” of that community is that we make an effort to treat each other, first and foremost, with kindness and grace, and the understanding that the person you are interacting with is not you. They're not even one of the fifty-two people you interact with on Discord who all agree to the same “rules of fandom” (newsflash: they probably don't). And if you come into their fannish space as a stranger demanding they cater to you, you are probably going to be in for a shock.

Commercialization complicates this issue, because I think one element that's new is that some of us have lost sight of the fact – or never learned – that fans do not place their creations in front of you like a server handing you a bag at a fast food drive thru window. They are not producing a commodity to be consumed for which you paid hard earned money that entitles you to certain rights, such as the right to complain if you ordered a burger with mayo and received mustard instead. You would certainly have a right to demand compensation if you're allergic to mustard and had to go to the hospital as a result.

Fandom is more like a potluck, a gigantic potluck with literally millions of dishes. At some tables, there are agreed upon warnings for certain allergens, but others are not required to be mentioned and if you have an allergy, you will need to ask directly. At some tables, you are told that there may be allergens in any of the dishes and you proceed to eat them at your own risk. That risk and your assessment of it is, for better or worse, entirely your responsibility to manage. And your preferences – level of spice, aversion to certain textures and flavours – those are not allergies and there is no prior agreed upon standard to break down every possible element of a dish so that you will always be able to avoid any contact with the foods you personally don't like. There never has been, and there never will be.

The only thing you can be certain of is that on every single table, there are dishes that people have created for you for free with love, effort, experience and care. If you walk up to that table and take a bite and then politely turn down any more, that's fine. If you take a bite, spit it out and loudly tell that person that is not what you were expecting, you wouldn't have tried it if you'd known what it tasted like, and you are appalled that this person did not inform you of every single ingredient before you tried it? You, my friend, are not going to be welcome at the potluck.

Fandom is not a Wendy's. The stories, songs, costumes, artwork, edits that we put out into the world are not mass produced burgers made in a giant factory and shipped to restaurants where you can rest assured that the burger you eat in London will taste the same as the one in Dubuque. And no, the time you invested in reading a fic, watching a vid or contemplating a piece of artwork posted freely on the internet is not something you have the right to demand a refund on either, because again, fandom is not a fast food restaurant, and our interactions with one another in fannish spaces are not transactions. Every creation you choose to put in front of your eyeballs took that person time and energy, and they are putting that out in the world to make a connection with other human beings.

The next time you leave a comment, choose connection. It's easier than you think.

(*I'm going on good faith here and presuming most people who do this are relatively new to fandom. I'm not counting the people who think it's fine and dandy to hurl abuse at strangers for not obeying their standards – those people should be blocked and excluded on sight. I sincerely hope that they get help for the demons that are chasing them and telling them this is an acceptable way to live.)

Rogue Trader - Commorragh - Achilleas - help him return

As described here - if you don't have Yrliet at the start of act 3, Achilleas will be responsible to start the events that bring you to Commorragh and you can encounter him there - as Wrack, guarding the entry to the Anatomical Opera.

You can also show him mercy and get him to realspace. He will also be mentioned in the ending slides.

It requires you to be Iconoclast - Votary (or toybox).

Read further for a video with the relevant scenes (including his ending) and how to get this ending.

This is how you can do it:

With toybox:

For example right before the ending, set etude HarlequinSavedAhilleas to start to get the ending slide.

In Commorragh before the third arena fight you can set etude "AchilleasWrackWeKnow" to start and the counter "AchilleasReveal" to 4.

Manually:

You need to recognize Achilleas as Wrack.

While not required, you have additional dialog between Achilleas and Heinrix if Heinrix is present when you discover his identity.

While talking with the Wrack / Achilleas you can get points for certain dialog options that will increase the counter/flag "AchilleasReveal". It will also start a etude "AchilleasWrackWeKnow"

Select "What kind of creature are you" to get more options.

Use the dialog option with the tech-use-10 skill check to get an additional option "Does your master always keep you on the verge of going berserk?" - gives 1 point

2. Ask "What offences earned you this hideous transformation?" You have two options to increase the counter by 1 point ("Perhaps it is the only way to survive..." or "It takes a true fool to ask...")

3. Already with two points you get a hint that this is Achilleas but continue to ask available options to increase the counter.

Only available for Iconoclast - Adherent - Peer through the slits of the mask into the monster's eyes - gives 1 point

4. Proceed with "Achilleas, is that you?" If Heinrix is present he will then have a short conversation with Achilleas. It does not affect the counter/outcome. You have two options that increase the counter: "I regret your fate" or "I did not relieve you from your oath..."

5. Should be self-explanatory but do not kill Achilleas here if you want to bring him to realspace. You also get other opportunities to kill him if you like (before the last arena fight).

You can have max. 4 points. And you need those for getting him to realspace.

Right before the last arena fight (you have to click on the portal entry) you will get a dialog with Wrack / Achilleas and there you can show him mercy, telling him to accompany you "Come along. I will get you out of here."

You need 4 points in the flag "AchilleasReveal" for this and etude "AchilleasWrackWeKnow" needs to be active.

After the arena fight and fight in the satellite spire where Nocturne shows up again, you can ask him to bring Achilleas to real space - this requires Iconoclast - Votary! If you go with option 2 it does not work, you will get another chance to select the Iconoclast - Votary option (if available).

In the ending slides you can then get this ending:

so after a whole bunch of research and watching endless youtube videos I am very confident that I am solidly in the PDA profile of autism. I knew I was autistic, but a lot of the coping strategies and mechanisms that I read about for being an adult with autism just did not work at all for me, and only increased my meltdowns and anxiety. Once I learned about PDA everything just made a lot more sense about my entire life, including my childhood and the problems I have been facing in the past few years.

I made a list of all of the things I do daily that my brain perceives as demands and it's no wonder I am so fucking exhausted and have no time for other people. Even just keeping myself alive by eating, staying hydrated, showering, going to the bathroom, brushing my teeth, getting dressed, going out to buy food/drinks, waking up at a decent time, going to sleep when I know I am tired, washing my hair... these are all things I don't WANT to do, but I NEED to and HAVE to do them which threatens my autonomy (there's always something else I would rather be doing) and triggers my stress response (depends on the situation but usually fight, sometimes flight, rarely freeze). God help me if I have other things I have to do that day like running errands, cooking for my partners, working a job (demand fucking city), cleaning the house, reaponding to messages/emails/calls that I have been putting off etc. etc.

It's no wonder i got so burned out in 2022 and needed fuckin 5 months off work sick to literally do NOTHING. Honestly it feels like I squeezed out the toothpaste tube of my autism and i've never been able to put it back in and get my shit together. I have no idea how I was able to cope for so long, cause these days it feels like I'm drowning and I'll never be in control of my life ever again. Like how the fuck do I get a job where people don't make demands of me all fucking day, where I'm the one in control of my time and life? Because even if I'm my own boss, then I'M the one who has to still do the fucking things I don't want to do but HAVE to do to earn the money just to keep myself alive

The best thing to invest in (aka yourself)

I'm sure everyone has thought about their current or future finances many times, and I'm also sure that you'd love to make a lot of money. Sure, you can spend hours searching the internet for the best business idea or the best college majors that you are not even interested in, but how about taking the easy route? A low risk, high reward and easy way to be financially free. Isn't that just a dream?

One of the most recent as well as most popular ways to earn money is investing. Although it can be a great way to earn money, 99% of the time it will only make you a lot of money if you're already rich! But there is one thing that you can invest in that will never fail you, yet no one talks about it. YOURSELF. The most valuable thing in the universe.

Define your goals

Ask yourself: What are your goals? If you want to be a business owner, learn skills that will be helpful in that field, for example marketing, so you can advertise your products, which will increase your revenue. Once you decide what your goal is research what skills are valuable and educate yourself of those topics.

But what if I don't know what I want to do?

That's completely fine! Instead of thinking about a specific niche, think about what you want your life to look like in general. Do you want to earn a lot of money? Google some of the most paying jobs. Do you value creativity in your work field? There are jobs for that too! It's ok if you can't find something that intrigues you. It's a journey and you don't need to find something that you'll do for the rest of your life right away.

Learn about money

Something that you can do regardless of what you want to achieve in life is learning about money! Unfortunately, most people don't know much about it except that it can buy you things. I can assure you that if you spend even just one week learning about this topic, you will know more than 90% of people. Robert Kiyosaki, who wrote the best seller "rich dad poor dad", is a great author that can teach you a lot about finance. I highly recommend all of his books, I'm sure you'll find something that peaks your interest.

Courses & school

Whether you are in school or not, you need to educate yourself! Everything can be monetized. Literally everything. We live in incredible times where if you just have a phone and access to the internet EVERYTHING you could want to learn can be learned online for free. Just go on YouTube and search something along the lines of (topic) 101, (topic) masterguide, etc. the possibilities are endless and I assure you that you will find something. If you don't mind spending money for courses try skillshare to unlock all courses available on their site or Udemy, they often do 80% off sales so you can get their courses for like $5.

Learn languages

I can't stress this enough! This is probably one of the best things you can do for yourself! Learning a new language can open so many doors for you! It can help you get a higher paying job, give you countless new opportunities and help you meet incredible people who speak that language. There are no right or wrong languages to choose, but in case you have no idea what you want, here are some of the most important factors:

Amount of speakers: This will be your main factor if your main goal is to reach as many people as possible, for any reason. This includes languages such as: Spanish, French, English (duh), or if you're up for a challenge: Hindi, Mandarin or Arabic.

Enjoyment: I think this should be important to everyone. You can't learn a language if you don't enjoy it. Try to learn the basics and see if you like how it sounds and how it feels.

Travel/domicile: if you know your dream is to move to a different country, where another language is spoken, it might be a good idea to learn it. Also, if you're interested in some country's culture you might also find it to be a great reason to learn it.

Job opportunities: although, as I mentioned above, pretty much every single language will give you many opportunities, it might vary depending on where you live and what your field of work is, for example if you live in the US, the most beneficial languages for you to learn will be English and Spanish. If you work in a company that works with Japanese companies, then Japanese might be a good choice for you. Of course, the most popular languages will have benefits pretty much anywhere in the world.

Other ways to invest in urself

Honestly, it would be difficult to fit all the resources in this post since that would make it ridiculously long, and I want to include many things so that everyone can find something that they enjoy, so I will make a whole different post about all of this in the future, because of that reason I will briefly go over a few other ways to grow:

Read

Reading is incredible! It has countless health benefits and it is a great way to learn about new things or expand your vocabulary. And no, you don't need to read educational books, although it sure is even more helpful. If you want to learn new words reading any book at all could help. I can say that as someone who grew up constantly reading people are often shocked at my vocabulary (in my native language), even since I was 5 years old, so yes, it works.

Mindful scrolling

Instead of just sitting on your phone all day watching stupid videos, pay attention to what content you're consuming and how long you spend on your phone.

Self care

I'm sure you guys already know that, so treat this as a reminder. Take care of yourself! And remember, looking out together can help you a lot in life. So put that face mask on, buy that new perfume you like and most importantly - prioritize your health!

Now you know exactly what you need to set yourself up for success. No more excuses!

Okay wait now this is truly a hot take that will probably ruin my reputation as a communist and a socialist but.

I wouldn't mind if netflix and other streaming sites started showing ads

Wait I swear im going somewhere with this.

Now I'm totally against the extent to which advertising has absolutely ruined the online space, especially how much it has driven the commodification of data collection so i would NOT like to see that level of advertisement on streaming sites (i know that once you open the gates to a little advertising you get it all, but.. thats kinda a different problem).

What i wouldnt mind seeing is something equivalent to what we see on TV or in movie theatres before a film, or basically youtube. And the reason for this is that the subscription business model does not translate well into tv/film production.

The reason netflix makes so many different tv shows and then cancels them after 1 season is because they dont care about increasing viewership numbers, they only care about subscription numbers. And they've done the calculations that a new tv show brings in more subscribers than cancelling that same show loses them.

Season 2 and beyond of a tv show doesnt earn them nearly as much money as season 1, but they cost the same amount to make, and it just gets worse with each season, pretty much no matter how popular that show is with very few exceptions (stranger things). Theres a reason we dont get 10 season long tv shows anymore.

Ads would allow them to earn money from someone long after season 1 of the show they subscribed to watch, for as long as they kept making a show worth watching.

It would also allow them to make money from repeat viewings, which takes up a lot of their bandwidth, further incentivising making actual good content rather than something eye catchy to draw in new subscribers.

Its also honestly not that unreasonable when you compare them to actual tv. Streaming sites are cheaper than cable, available on demand, allows infinite repeat viewing, and is currently ad free. Compared to cable thats a pretty good deal and im a little shocked they didnt start advertising years ago. And if it lets them produce cable quality shows without an incentive to cancel them straight away, then I wouldn't mind ads.

That's all im saying really. As long as the ads actually translate to higher quality and importantly more reliable tv show production, i wouldn't mind a youtube-level of advertisements.

Now that is all being said from within our current reality of a capitalist society. i am still in favour of burning it all down 🙏

In the last few years, a self-styled political movement that sounds like a contradiction in terms has gained ground online: “Maga communism”. Promoted by its two most prominent spokespeople, Haz Al-Din, 27, and Jackson Hinkle, 24, Maga communism comprises a grab bag of ideas that can seem lacking in coherence – ranging from a belief in the power of Donald Trump’s followers to wrest power from “global elites” to an emphasis on masculine “honor”, admiration for Vladimir Putin and support for Palestinian liberation. The two have been repeatedly kicked off social media platforms for spreading disinformation. Hinkle, for example, was booted from Instagram earlier this year – shortly after claiming in a series of posts that Ukraine was behind the terrorist attack on a concert hall in Moscow, despite Islamic State claiming responsibility for the act.

Hinkle and Al-Din have been ridiculed by critics as pseudo-intellectual, cravenly opportunistic grifters who have carved out an intentionally provocative niche designed to siphon followers away from other highly online political communities. “If you look at their policies, like what they actually propose, it’s clear that this is a deranged fringe movement that doesn’t really have a great deal of articulation,” said Alexander Reid Ross, a lecturer at Portland State University and author of Against the Fascist Creep, which explored how rightwing movements co-opt the language of the left. “It seems ludicrous, but I would say it’s really a symptom of the erosion of rational political life.”

Hinkle and Al-Din have also forged international alliances with the likes of the Russian ultranationalist philosopher Alexander Dugin, whom they met at a conference in Moscow earlier this year.

The founder of Maga communism cultivates a militant aesthetic when he addresses his followers via livestream from his home. His beard is carefully coiffed, and he often wears an oversized black blazer and black collared shirt. Behind him, swords are mounted on the wall, “to symbolize the war I am waging to defend the message I believe is true amidst mountains of lies”, Al-Din, 27, who streams on Kick and YouTube under the name “Infrared”, said in a phone interview. Both Haz and Hinkle say they support Trump not out of admiration for the man, but out of the belief that his followers represent the most significant mobilization of the American working class in decades.

They subscribe to social conservatism in a way that appeals to the growing numbers of gen Z males who believe feminism is harmful to men, and cast issues such as transgender rights, the climate crisis and racial justice as neoliberal distractions. “It’s not that we’re against women. We just perceive that the discourse, culture and the political sphere have seen a huge decline in the notion of honor,” Al-Din said. “One of the reasons for that is the decline in basic masculine virtues, the rise of a kind of effeminization, especially of men.” Hinkle has regularly made anti-trans comments on his own social media, making declarations such as: “We need to protect our youth from trans terrorists and propagandists.” “They’re firmly embedded in a corner of social media that is the most vitriolic, terminally online, troll culture,” said Reid Ross.

Hinkle and Al-Din’s links to communism are tenuous at best, but they may be opportunistically emphasizing the label to tap into shifting attitudes. Polling has indicated that members of gen Z, even gen Z Republican voters, are more open to socialist ideas compared with previous generations. In a video debunking Maga communism published last year, the Marxist economist Richard Wolff noted that there’s precedent for nationalist movements co-opting communist rhetoric, particularly during times of social upheaval and economic hardship. “If you’re a political movement and you want to get supporters at a time when socialism is attracting more and more interest, well, you might be tempted to grab hold at least of the name,” Wolff said, noting that this was a strategy most famously used by Adolf Hitler during his rise to power. “It’s provocative,” Hinkle said of his movement’s name, smirking, in a 2022 interview with the comedian Jimmy Dore. “But that’s why it’s trending on Twitter right now.”

According to an infographic regularly recirculated by Hinkle, proposed Maga communist policies include “dismantling big tech”, banning “antifa street terrorism”, ending “woke academia” and subsidizing gyms in every community. They also propose exiting Nato; deporting the Obamas, Bushes and Clintons to the International Criminal Court; ending “open borders”; and “putting banking into the hands of the people”. Hinkle and Al-Din also claim they’re anti-imperialists and cling to the enduring myth of Trump as the more dovish candidate. Their band of online followers see themselves as pitted against “the unipolar world” and “western hegemony”, and they often support authoritarian nations that the US sees as its adversaries, such as Russia, China, Iran and North Korea. Al-Din, for example, told the Guardian that he has a “profound” admiration for North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, in part due to his “resilience in defending the honor and history of Korean civilization”.

Al-Din and Hinkle’s position on the Israel-Gaza conflict makes them outliers in the broader Maga movement, which has largely rallied behind Israel. Trump and his allies have cast pro-Palestinian protests in the US as another manifestation of “wokeness”. Trump recently described protesting college students as “raging lunatics and Hamas sympathizers”. While some other young leaders on the far right, such as the white nationalist livestreamer Nick Fuentes, oppose Israel for explicitly antisemitic reasons, Al-Din and Hinkle insist that their position on the conflict is grounded in their broader “anti-imperialist” stance, shared by more prominent conservatives such as Tucker Carlson, who has also criticized US support for Israel. Hinkle and Fuentes have been allies in the past; Hinkle and Al-Din have previously streamed on Fuentes’ platform Cozy.tv, and Hinkle said he had gotten dinner with Fuentes last September. They fell out shortly after following an argument about class politics and the country-folk artist Oliver Anthony’s viral song about the working class.

But despite Hinkle and Al-Din’s high-profile support for Gaza, the pair were recently jeered at a pro-Palestine event at Emory University. The event was co-hosted by Cair (Council on American-Islamic Relations) and was to feature the political activist Norman Finkelstein. The Emory law student Grayson Walker, the showrunner for Al-Din’s Infrared show, was a co-organizer, and added Al-Din as a speaker at the last minute.

In his bizarre speech, Al-Din berated members of the audience, saying that they were responsible for spreading “imperialist and Zionist propaganda and slander against my comrade Jackson Hinkle” and were “just as culpable in the crimes of the Zionists as those who give their dollars and money to them”. The audience booed him and shouted “shame on you”, after which Cair abruptly canceled the event and put out a statement. “Today, we unwittingly damaged the movement for Palestinian liberation by allowing a rogue actor to hijack an event intended to highlight the Palestinian genocide,” Cair said in a statement. “A student co-organizer commandeered this platform by inserting hateful and divisive guests into the program,” it continued, adding that the organizer, Walker, had “greenlighted a deeply problematic speech”. (Hinkle and Al-Din later claimed they’d been “canceled” by “the Zionists” and used a homophobic slur to refer to the pro-Palestinian students at Emory.)

The Guardian has an article on MAGA Communism, an ideology that marries communism with MAGA politics (basically right-wing politics with a left-wing aesthetic). Jackson Hinkle and Haz Al-Din are its biggest spokespersons of it.
