My rigging professor makes reference videos for us to watch as he rigs, to demonstrate new material (it’s largely useless because he goes at the speed of light over brand new concepts but whatever).

So right now we’re working on a quadruped. I got a little miffed when he saw my model, he was critiquing the anatomy on the dragon I made and I disagreed with his sentiments heartily. Two other creature artists who had looked it over were also perplexed by his feedback but I let it go.

So I’m watching his video later in the evening and he’s decided to rig a horse. He starts off by saying he did a bunch of research first. He said things like “wow! Did you know they don’t have clavicles? That’s their scapula!” and “Oh my gosh they walk on their finger bones!” And I’m sitting there like yeah yeah, the horse finger bones, we’ve all seen it.

He starts showing the skeleton he built to rig on and all the joints and it looks normal….

But then. THEN!

He gets into the movement and this is how he made the horses front legs bed.

I screaaaaamed. I was laughing so hard I almost fell out of my chair. I kept waiting for him to be like “Ah yes, this horse is the stuff of nightmares” and fix it but he didn’t!

I finally dropped a comment when I could breathe again being like “Hey so that front knee…” He felt very silly and said he’s gonna fix it but I’m saving this pic for when I’m sad.

. . . So, centaurs are basically top half is human, bottom half is horse or animal of your choice, I guess. Got that covered? Good.

. . . So, I'm looking at it, and my one question is. . . Where are their organs?? Because the horse part were replacing with a human body is basically the neck, and the human part were replacing with horse is like, the waist and the legs. Both parts hold most of the respective organs for the creatures, right??

I assume we're only giving the centaur a single set of organs- but who's organs are we working with? Where are they?? Are they just stretched out to fit through both human body and horse body??

Will the heart be the horse heart of the human heart??

I know this is just a drawing, but like- I'm Honestly trying to figure this out XD

Today at the horspital there were a lot of horses trying to unalive themselves. It’s uncommon for us to have a day with 0 emergency calls but today was a rare high for this time of year. One died of a tummy ache on the table in the AM, and two more were on their way in when I clocked out. It’s always a gamble on if emergency=euthanasia but that’s just business.

For those interested in a morbid round of play along at home, vote below for which, if either, of the two emergencies arriving at the horspital this evening make it out alive based on the symptoms I was given over the phone.
