🦋so yeah- like the title suggests. I just kinda wanted to voice my opinion on it. I personally am a self shipper. Ever since middle school and whatever. And I’ve had my fair share of animes, cartoons, etc

most common being Greek or Roman mythology since it’s more well known, you have the gods, the monsters, the nymphs etc. and it’s such a wide spectrum and variety. Even sometimes Japanese mythology since it’s used in most media like the Kitsune and all that- which I guess would fall under monster in terms of shipping and all that- I mean- they are yokai.

but my main question would be is it weird ? Like say you really like a certain mythological character and for whatever reason you fall head over heels for ‘em? Is it weird to simp for said character or not?

Caitlyn Kiramman - Name Symbolism

Looking at characters' names in anything is something I enjoy, and Arcane is no exception. Thought I would start with Caitlyn, because she has both the easiest and most complicated name depending on how you look at things.

I have no idea how League of Legends names their characters. I've only played a handful of times in the past, but I do know a fair bit of the lore. I'm looking at how they are in Arcane, and just gaging it from there because there wasn't much crossover until the recent season.

Caitlyn's first name comes the name Katherine which is derived from the Greek name Aikaterine; in modern Greek it's usually Romanized as Aikaterini or Ekterini. The roots and meaning of this name is actually a giant puzzle and it has several potential meanings, all of which can apply to Caitlyn.

1 - "Each of two."

Caitlyn is consistently a part of a duo throughout the series. Sibling duo with Jayce. Mentor and mentee with Grayson. Mystery solving duo + girlfriend of Vi. Mirrored with her enemy in Jinx, who's also her greatest foil. Master-apprentice with Ambessa. Combat duo with Mel.

2 - A reference to the Greek goddess Hecate.

Hecate was the goddess of magic, witchcraft, crossroads, ghosts, necromancy. She was also associated with night and the moon, as well as the Underworld. On the surface, Caitlyn has nothing to draw from here, she's one of the characters least-associated with Hextech and the arcane, but thinking for a moment, there's some things to connect.

For one, crossroads. Hecate was a triple-goddess, and was frequently depicted as having three different aspects of her body that were all attached to each other, meaning she could look down all different paths of a crossroad at once.

Caitlyn literally goes through three different stages throughout the show, from naive and compassionate, ruthless and violent, and then repentant and sober (in terms of bloodlust).

The next is ghosts. Not only is Caitlyn metaphorically haunted by the ghost of her mother, and of the phantom-like Jinx, butalso the legacy of House Kiramman looms over her. On the flip side, we see the memory of Caitlyn haunt Vi during her pit-fighter era to the point of appearing in hallucinations.

Lastly, the Underworld. What's the nickname for Zaun? The Undercity. Hecate was considered one of the Greek deities that was able to move between the Underworld (the land of the dead) and the land of the living with ease. Most people from Piltover never set foot in the Undercity, but Caitlyn does so several times, even going to deepest and most hopeless areas where no topsider had previously been.

Interestingly, she's guided through by Vi, who takes her through the milder areas like Jericho's and the main areas of the Lanes, the salacious ones like the brothel, and the pit of the tents where the completely forgotten live and - hold on, wait a minute... incoming tangent: call this a reach, but were the writers going for a Dante's Inferno type of reference, where Caitlyn is a stand-in for Dante and Vi is Virgil? Because now that has entered my head and I'm convinced it's true, I mean, I could see Vi writing the Aeneid. Caitlyn and Vi's excursions through the Undercity in S1 Act 2 now seem like such an obvious nod to Inferno that I find it kind of funny I didn't notice it on my first couple of watches.

This also means that come the end of season 2 act 2 Vi goes from being Caitlyn's Virgil, to being her Beatrice, which is kind of whimsically romantic.

Minor note, but Hecate's also associated with and sometimes depicted as a black dog. Caitlyn's girlfriend is Vi, daughter of a man nicknamed the Hound of the Underground, and her pit-fighter logo is two black hellhounds (Hecate's type of dogs). This was for several reasons, including dogs being considered protectors, a character trait both her and Vi have.

3 - "Torture"

...let's not forget...

...and the entirety of the "Paint the Town Blue" segment. Which, while is obviously about Jinx, also applies to Caitlyn. Her hair is dark blue, her eyes are sapphire. The Kiramman's in general are associated with the color blue. Zaun and Piltover are both being "painted blue" by two different people.

4 - "My consecration of your name"

Kind of reach-y but, I think Vi nicknaming her "Cupcake" and having specific times where she calls her "Caitlyn" or "Cait" (usually serious) and others where she calls her "Cupcake" (typically playful) applies here. She also calls Vi her full name at a very specific time, showing how close they've grown. This could also be to how she views her last name, Kiramman, as it and the legacy are treated as something sacred and of utmost importance.

5 - "Pure"

Season 1 Caitlyn was rather pure in that good-intentions way. She really never did anything with malicious intent until season 2, where we see her at her worst, and even then some of that previous "pure" Caitlyn is shown to be just bubbling underneath the surface, like in that scene where she asks Ambessa why violence is always justified in the name of peace.

Kiramman

Honestly, only Amanda Overton can answer for this. She gave Caitlyn a surname, but Kiramman as far as I was able to read, doesn't actually exist. "Kira" could mean several things including "young" or "humiliator of enemy" in Old Persian, or "lord" in Ancient Greek, or "black" in Old Irish, but I'm not sure if any of those were potential inspirations for the Kiramman name or not.

UPDATE: Because in the surname Kiramman, -man is the suffix that would make "Kiram-" the prefix. @sablesupergirl informed me that "Kiram" is an Arabic Muslim name that means "noble" and "generous." It's not to be confused with "Karim," which yes means "generous" and "noble" but also "honorable" and one of the 99 titles for G-d is Islam, "al-Karim" meaning "the generous one."

The Kirammans are clearly a noble house in the literal sense, that they are upper-class and one of the ruling families over Piltover, making them a sort of nobility. They're also slightly more generous than other houses, as Cassandra's the one who designed and implemented the air ventilation system for Zaun to get rid of the Grey, so, it's a very fitting name for the Kiramman family indeed.

I know what some of you are thinking: Caitlyn clearly has East Asian features, and people tend to not associate East Asian-looking people with Islam, but that's actually more common than you think. Plenty of people from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Chinese Uyghurs, etc... are Muslim and have very similar features to Caitlyn. It could also be due to Arcane being a work of fantasy and fiction, and therefore Amanda just could've thought the meaning of "Kiram" fit Caitlyn's family and decided to create their surname around it.

That's all I've got for Caitlyn. Either Vi or Jinx will be next.

General Jason Grace headcanons ⚡

⚡ I feel like he's kinda sensitive. He isn't the crier type of sensitive tho but since he's super emotionally attuned to body language reading and stuff, he gets a little hurt easily, sometimes misinterpreting someone's behaviour to him, so maybe if one of his friend's start getting snappy with him because they're having a bad day, he'd actually be pretty damn upset about it, but would hide it.

⚡ Also also, this man HATES being yelled at. Sure, he's been trained harshly and stuff but he's very hard on himself too so I feel like if someone yells at him (like in an argument or something) the poor boy's whole day would be ruined.

⚡ This is also why I feel like he NEVER raises his voice harshly at anyone even if he's super super angry because he knows how much damage yelling can do.

⚡ But. He can still manage to be terrifying if he's mad. He'd have that intense icy stare directed at the person (I'm pretty sure this is canon and is pointed out by multiple characters in the books). And his voice would be steady but VERY firm and strong. Kinda like a strict dad.

⚡ Also, his eyes would get a slight shade lighter if he's super angry. Like he usually has bright electric blue eyes right? It would just turn into ice colured ones.

⚡ Okay I feel like before they all go to bed, he'd go check on everyone in the Argo ii to see if they're comfortable or if they need anything, etc. definitely an overbearing mother friend tbh. He gets this habit from camp Jupiter where he was kinda in charge for cabin rounds since he was centurion.

⚡ I hc him to have like lemony yellow hair, instead of platinum or golden blonde. It's not too light but it isn't dark either.

⚡ Why do I feel like sun tan literally never affects this guy? Like for instance, I totally hc that percy gets tanned pretty quickly, but this man's skin just wouldn't budge. Instead of his body getting tanned I feel like his hair would get a few yellow shades darker instead lol

⚡ I felt like he'd be sunburnt instead tho. There would be blotchy pink patches on his face and arms after he comes back from the beach.

⚡ He definitely LOVES his roman baths, could spend hours in that bath (honestly if u guys have seen traditional Roman baths, you'd know that they look like a spa day DREAM omg) so he would feel super disoriented when he has regular baths in chb instead and would miss Roman baths SO badly.

⚡ Like the Roman baths literally ease his muscle tension after a long day. It would be like the only part of the day in camp Jupiter that would actually feel relaxing for him.

⚡ He's such a foodie okay. Remember how he kept munching on his brownies religiously when the crew were in such a dangerous situation? ("Pass me the brownies bro") or when he loved the sweet stuff the snake people had made for them? Like food just makes him forget his duties and be a kid for once.

⚡ Which leads us to our next hc, he has such a sweet tooth! (Tho I feel like this was aluded many times in the books aswell). Like he's every dentist's nightmare tbh. He has like teeth stains which he'd deliberately try to get rid of by aggressively brushing his teeth (it does come off lol)

⚡ As opposed to what people usually assume about him. Jason is secretly such a hopeless romantic tbh. Nothing like his dad in that category. Remember how he snuck Piper out the window, led her into his secret rooftop passage simply to recreate their first kiss under the stars, since Piper was super upset about it being fake? Yeah, he hates upsetting his s/o. he's like super thoughtful and plans stuff like these days ahead so he doesn't forget :(

⚡ He's such a people pleaser even with people he barely knows, and the effect only doubles when he has a partner tbh. Like if his partner doesn't like a particular place? He won't like it either. So he needs someone to encourage him and tell him it's okay to like something the others dislike.

⚡ Which is also why I think that he'd be easier to emotionally guilt trip and manipulate. :(( somone wrap him up in a fluffy blanky pls

⚡ As opposed to canon, I feel like Jason only dislikes Camp Jupiter, not New Rome itself. He ADORES that place to shreds. I feel like instead of settling in a mortal area or something, he'd definitely stay in New Rome for long-term living (bc screw canon, him wanting to leave new Rome all together seems SO ooc to me idk) some parts of his roman self would ALWAYS be there tbh. That place was practically his home. Also, he only wants a peaceful, monster free life right? New Rome would obviously provide with all that, yk since they have a strong barrier for the city to prevent invasion.

ok but roman would definitely make an imaginary world to cope with remus' death, like one where they're going on magical adventures together or just sitting around and chatting. he would go on about his day on autopilot, and all the while he would be imagining that remus is alive and well in this forested kingdom he's made in his mind. all his friends are like 'so sorry for your loss. you doing okay?' and roman acts very confused because remus isnt dead to him at all.

hehe imagine he isolates himself and spends all day asleep, dreaming up different scenerios to go with this bright happy world that he thinks is more real than anything that really happens to him. and because he goes mad trying to perfect remus, as in make the most realistic version of him in his mind, he ends up pining for him even in his dreamworld

Stray kids as Romance Tropes- Hyung Line

Bang Chan: second chance

Chan is definitely the type of person who fixes his past mistakes and tries to make it up to people.

Whether it'd be quickly after you break up or a rekindled romance years later, it would be hard to stay away from him.

I could also see it as sort of a right person, wrong time situation. I think there could be relationship issues due to him overworking himself or being in the band, but these could be overcome at a later time when both of your lives have settled down a little bit.

He would bump into you years later and you would both know how it would end. Despite all the extra years and relationships in between neither of you could forget each other, no matter how hard you tried.

He'd definitely worry he's making the wrong choice, not wanting to put you through anything negative again, but ultimately decides that love is worth it.

"I'm never letting you go again. I made that mistake once. I know better now. You're the love of my life."

Lee Minho: enemies to lovers

I mean do I really have to explain this one? (If you can't tell from my fics, enemies to lovers Lee Know is like my roman empire)

The sarcasm, the stubbornness, competitiveness, and ultimately just Minho all together makes for easy enemies.

I don't think it would be anything big, rather just like miscommunication or a misunderstanding over something silly that grows into something bigger. His love language seems to be sort of like teasing which would be an incredible way to escalate the enemies into lovers.

I think once you transition into lovers though, he would be the biggest softie for you. Once you break down all the layers, I feel like he would be the sweetest boyfriend. The sarcasm and teasing would definitely stay though.

Lowkey though, hero x villain would be so cute with him

Seo Changbin: forced proximity

I could totally see this being like work romance or even like the one bed trope. Just basically anything that forces the two of you to interact a lot.

I feel like maybe he just never noticed you, but being forced to work together or be together makes him start to realize how much he likes you.

If were being real, it would be so difficult not to fall in love with him especially in forced proximity. Like his laugh and smile are so infectious and it's hard not to be in love with him.

Once the two of you get closer and over the awkwardness and little bumps, you'd be attached at the hip and genuinely enjoy the other's company.

When he is finally able to leave the situation, I think it would finally hit him and he'd realize just how much he was starting to like you and enjoy your presence.

Or instead of one bed you just have to share a room for the night and you wake up from a nightmare. He would come over to your bed and comfort you back to sleep. You'd wake up the next morning in his arms and have to figure out how to make it not awkward.

Hwang Hyunjin: forbidden love

Hyunjin really gives like hopeless romantic vibes or like royalty aesthetic which I think fits really well with this trope.

He'd be like a prince who falls in love with someone "under" him who he isn't usually allowed to interact with. Or maybe a princess from a nemesis kingdom.

He would definitely run away to be with his love. If he gets caught he would never stop fighting to get back to you.

In a different situation, I could see him falling in love with someone really quickly which could end negatively. For example, he could meet someone whilst in a different country or on vacation and has to leave in a week, so he desperately tries to stay away, but is unable to deny his love by the end and has to face the consequences.

I could also see him being in a group and falling in love with a member despite a dating ban. They would have to keep their love a secret, but it's worth it to be together.

Ultimately, I just feel like love will win out for him in the end and he would do anything for his partner.

Simay (top) is the owner of the only kosher kebab house in the neighborhood and occasionally takes freelance sidequests, especially any that let her express her artistic talents or dress up in pastel eyeshadow. She is very good with cats, and they keep her establishment remarkably clean for the time period. Simay's only known personal enemy is a rival taverna owner who sometimes pulls cartoonish stunts to get her in trouble with the local Roman prefect and Department of Health and Safety. She comes from Byzantium and already has a very lively backstory, although other characters often dismiss her. (I made her with + based on one of my friends from high school so if her name is more modern-sounding, that's why; this is also where she gets most of her style and personality, and the special cat that she takes care of.)

Seleukos (bottom) is a hopeless romantic, chronically unemployed, and the worst "poet" in Athens; but unexpectedly manages to ingratiate himself with the Emperor Hadrian, who believes his work is just kitsch and a lightly satirical critique of modern decadence. He finds another ally in the prefect, who bonds with him over their shared hatred of the main villain and superficial literary interest that is really an interest in lounging around and talking about boys. Seleukos' main goals-- artistic greatness and true love-- eventually come true in ways he never expected and might regret later.

They are usually involved in Chrysanthos' business against his will, but the duo's combined creative thinking, low social capital, and undying loyalty to each other become useful in the strange situations that they often encounter.
