Ok but I’m having another category 5 Sam Rockwell in “Argylle” moment and just 😵‍💫😶😩
“You need some rest, kid.”
“I knew you better than you knew yourself, kid.”
“Pretending not to love you, kid.”
🥺🫠😭 He’s always talking about how great of an agent Elly/Rachel is, tells her he’s proud of her, makes sure she gets rest, is always trying to cheer her up and calm her down even if it’s in his awkward and clumsy dad™️ kind of way
The way he refers to her as “sunshine”, “hot sauce”, and ofc “kid” and literally refers to himself as “father” in that one scene 👀😵‍💫🥲 all in that low, gravelly voice; the arm touches, the gosh damn fuckin whirlybird, when he refuses to hit/fight her, and the way he looks at her throughout the movie, both before and after the reveal, with so much softness, affection, yearning, adoration
In conclusion, Sam Rockwell/Aidan Wilde is a pink, yellow and blue smokeshow

It’s so funny that macaque is just in wukong’s domain. Like the show has made it clear that the seal is very much working and can keep whatever entities in or out. But Macaque was able to just stroll in no issues. He never…he never locked Macaque out.

there’s something about you that makes me want to protect you from the whole world. to hide you from the people who hurt you, to show you only the good. what i wouldn’t give to have you in my arms, your head against my chest, as i sing you lullabies, watching your eyes gently close. kissing your forehead as you slept, muttering a foreign prayer as you sleep, wishing you good dreams. and when i fall asleep, the watercolor of my subconscious will only paint portraits of you and i dancing in the rain, or through the sunflower fields i love so much.
i want my lips against your neck lovingly, i need you to know that you’re cherished, even if that’s the last thing i ever do. i need you to know that you are one in 8 billion, never replaceable. and as you let out shaky breaths from your parted lips i know that there is no one who will ever compare to you and your beauty.
as if blessed by aphrodite herself, you stand above us mortals. your smile the warmest hug. at the sight of such a divine being, i’d happily accept my place as below you, for nobody could ever have my heart as you do, my dear.
i want you, little dove, even if it kills me.

JAMES POTTER | GENUINE
SUM. : your boyfriend finally takes a role who has a romantic interest but his expression is hardly convincing; only you can get a genuine reaction from him
LENGTH : 1.8k
TAGS : actor james potter au ; modern au ; muggle au ; singer reader au ; actor/director sirius black au ; actress marlene mckinnon au ; fluff ; celebrity couple goals ; james can't do romantic roles ; he's too loyal!
Tumblr media
“CUT!” Sirius shouts and James drops his shoulders in disappointment, his expression of ‘hopeless love’ also slipping off his face. This is why he wasn’t suited for romantic roles. As Sirius shouts for everyone to take a short five-minute break, James catches Marlene sending him a sympathetic look before moving to her chair with the help of her make-up team, who lifted the heavy skirt of her wedding dress for easier movement. “Come on James, what’s gotten into you?” Sirius asks, making his way over as Remus touches up James’ hair and suit.
“I’m trying Sirius,” the actor sighs, “I think I just need a break to collect myself and then I can finally get that winning take for you,”
“You better,” Sirius playful threatens, “I know you’re a lovesick fool so I know the type of infatuated expressions you can pull. Just try to emulate that and you’re golden, okay?”
‘It’s not that easy if it isn’t her…’ James was tempted to protest but settled with a simple, “Okay…” satisfied, Sirius walks away with Remus to discuss some things with the camera crew while James leans against the set’s alter.
As an actor, James should find it easy to perform his characters’ expressions and emotions, his stardom and recurring roles in thriller, action and adventure films were a sentiment to that. However, his current role requires romantic displays, something he had actively avoided in his acting career.
Characters that had passionate, romantic and intimate scenes were roles James tended to avoid primarily due to his endless loyalty to you, his childhood sweetheart. As young teens, you and James fell in love long before your successes. Since then, you have only grown a deeper love for each other, fostered by the hardships that came with your dreams of becoming a singer and his of becoming an actor with Sirius.
His best friend eventually divulged into directing his own films whilst James continued expanding his career as an actor — as much as he’s able to with the number of scripts he’s dropped for their romantic interests and amorous scenes. It didn’t sit right with him having to kiss another girl let alone look lovingly at someone that wasn’t you. He felt like a cheat. Many, including Sirius, however, have told him that it was part of his job but James was insistent on making no exceptions. He respected you and the love you shared too much. The same way you would play your own love interest in music videos while wearing a short wig and masculine attire. It was a show of mutual respect you both had for the other before and after your relationship became public.
The only reason James had taken on this role was due to Sirius’ insistence as the director, the lack of intimate scenes as well as the dominating adventure, and fantasy genre. It would all be underpinned by small heartfelt moments with his character’s love interest played by his close friend Marlene McKinnon. The two characters’ love story will end in tragedy, haunted by the trope of ‘right person, wrong time’. James believed he could convincingly play his loving expressions only brought on by you in the rare, romantic moments his character shares with Marlene’s but it’s proving harder than he originally thought. Simply thinking about you wasn’t enough…
Mulling over his character’s story, James imagines you in Marlene’s place. He only had three minutes remaining to focus on how he should convey his character’s ‘hopeless love’ convincingly.
To concentrate, he closes his eyes and thinks deeply, ignoring the sudden scuffle and whispers around him. On an adventure to rescue his unrequited love’s significant other, James selflessly volunteers to aid in her quest, protecting her and cherishing her throughout the arduous journey, putting his life at risk for a girl who would never love him back. Unselfishly, he continues forward without drawing any attention to the deep love he holds for her, the audience kept in suspense of his mysterious ambitions— that is, until the dream sequence. In his sleep, influenced by the surrounding, foreign plants’ effects, James dreams of his ideal future, one where he gets to marry his love, who will reciprocate his feelings wholeheartedly. It’s the moment all audience members realise James’ true motivations, encouraging a swell of heartache amongst them when they are forced to accept the reality his own character is made to face: that he cannot be with his love no matter despite his efforts. Her heart belongs to another and if he were to fall for the plant’s trap, he will never wake up from his heavenly dream-come-true and become living fertilsier to continue the plant’s life. The heartache of that realisation is further emphasised when James doesn’t stop loving her in his own, silent and benevolent way.
This is going to be a big moment for James’ character; he needs to put his all into this!
Before he has the chance to open his eyes, however, James is already being led to his spot on the set by Remus. The brunette informs him that the short break is over and instructs him to start before his turn to face Marlene.
“Again, the shot’s focus will be on your face, James, Make it a good one,” Sirius instructs from his director’s chair and, with a small pause cues for the start of the hundredth take.
Opening his eyes gradually, as if waking up from a dream, James takes a moment to analyse his surroundings. He meets the eyes of his groomsmen, shooting them a confused look before slowly turning and raising his gaze. He’s become familiar with Marlene in her wedding dress now so her off-centred placement doesn’t deter him. He also fully trusts in the team, if they saw it fit to make any changes, he’ll help follow through. Marlene is only slightly off centre, he realises, to accommodate the camera’s view of his expression more clearly. James fully expects to only see Marlene, however, when he finally raises his gaze, in the distance, he sees you by the camera.
And James immediately smiles.
He completely forgets where he is, rather, he savours the warmth that fills his chest at the sight of you, the burst of elation in his brain when he sees you smiling at him, dressed in his oversized sweater and your casual jeans. You’re not in a wedding dress nor dolled up the same way Marlene is for the take but you’re just as gorgeous. There’s a tingling itch in his fingertips to reach out for you and he almost does but stops when he remembers where he is and what’s happening around him. His look of sweeping joy and deep affection falters ever so slightly but is completely captured by the camera’s close-up shot. James’ internal berating of another failed performance barely begins when Sirius is suddenly cheering in delight.
“CUT! AND PRINT!” Sirius claps and laughs at the success but James is left blinking in confusion. Did he hallucinate you? He looks in your direction again. No, you weren’t a figment of his imagination, you’re really here! “Finally! That was what I was looking for! Great idea on putting her beside the camera, Moony,”
Remus nods his head in graceful humility as you giggle from where you stand. You had planned a surprise visit for James and called Remus beforehand for access to the set. It was the perfect surprise considering you had barely seen each other the last few weeks; he was busy filming with Sirius and Marlene while you were recording songs for your new, up-and-coming album. That only seemed to add to James’ favourable reaction, however.
“BREAK!” Sirius announces with a wink directed at you, “Let's give the two love birds a moment, as thanks for finally getting the job done. Let’s give it ten!” it seemed as though succeeding after multiple failures had made Sirius a little too happy and laidback but who was James to complain? As Marlene knowingly smirks at him, he runs past and launches himself at you. With a squeal, you return his embrace and giggle into his shoulder.
“I missed you…” he whispers into your crown.
“Surprise!” you announce despite the lateness and giggle again. Music to his ears.
“Thanks for helping me with my scene, love,” he pulls away with deep affection swimming in his hazel eyes and he cups your jaw while resisting the urge lean in and kiss you endlessly. He loves the sound of your voice just as much as the feel of your lips against his own so, for now, he’ll willing listen. He can taste your sweet lips later.
“I didn’t really know what was happening but I’m happy to help,”
“You’re so cute,” he sighs and finally pulls you into passion-filled kiss before you can utter another word. "I can't believe you're my lady,"
"Your lady?"
"Yes," James giggles and kisses your cheek again and again and again, "my lady, the same way, I'm your man,"
"Mmm, sounds good," you utter against his lips, "I'll have to feature you in my new music video then~"
⋅˚₊‧ ଳ ‧₊˚ ⋅ ⋅˚₊‧ ଳ ‧₊˚ ⋅
“...tell me about that scene. It was such a big moment for the audience and your character. How did you manage to look so in love but then so heartbroken?” the interviewer asks, smiling but tilting his head in curiosity when Marlene burst out laughing.
“Oh, this is such a good story!” James looks away, unable to meet his co-star and friend’s mischievous smirk and glimmering eyes, “Can I tell him?” she doesn’t even give him the chance to answer before ingeminating the tale, “James couldn’t get that moment right for multiple takes. We were all getting tired of him, really. But since Sirius knew he was capable of being a love-drunk fool, he persisted for over an hour! And this is just for a one minute section of the film!” James finally chuckles despite his flustered expression when Marlene makes a side comment about how the wedding dress was a chore to wear for such an extended period of time and didn’t appreciate James’ slow uptake, “there wasn’t even an after-party for me to let loose in, my supposed ‘groom’ had his brain elsewhere,” the two share a laugh and James picks up on the story.
“Elsewhere, meaning my girlfriend. She actually planned a surprise visit during filming and was brought in by Remus. He put her right by the camera and the reaction you saw on film was my reaction to seeing her instead of Marlene.” his co-star coos at how adorable he is whenever he’s around you and gossips with the interviewer about how cute of a couple the two of you make behind the scenes.
“Is that why you’ve become her love interest in the music videos for her new album?” the interviewer asks impromptu. He’s on the edge of his seat and is a clear fan of your music, which makes James happier than if the man was to say he was a fan of him.
“Naturally,” James smiles to himself, “she did say I was the inspiration for her love ballads,”

“mama, i don’t remember this!”
when you turn to look up, you’re staring directly at a photo you have not seen in a long time. once it sinks in just what picture it is you’re looking at, a soft smile grows on your face before meeting your son’s gaze.
no wonder he was confused, because the slightly crinkled picture he had managed to find wasn’t of him, despite the kid being nearly identical to himself. had it not been for the fact that you knew it wasn’t your son who was staring back at you on the piece of paper, it would have fooled you too.
“‘s because it’s not you, sweetheart,” you smile. “come here,” he doesn’t hesitate to scatter over with tiny steps, before you gently lift him into your lap, resting your head on his shoulder as you look at the picture together.
you had nearly forgotten the picture even existed, hid away with other tokens of your late love.
it was a rather simple picture, one from when satoru was just a child, long before you had the privilege of loving him. standing straight and proud, a young satoru was smiling at you, a toothless grin stretching so far across his face that his eyes were squeezed shut.
“it’s your daddy,” you sigh as your son leans back against you. “i think he’s a little older here than you are know.”
“he looks just like me!” excitement carrying his words.
and he did. same tufts of white hair that were always sticking in every direction. same warm smile that greeted everyone he encountered. same kind eyes that never lied.
“do you miss him?”
you turn to look at him, meeting familiar blue eyes you used to get lost in for hours on end. “every day,” you say simply, a sad smile painting your lips.
never letting your eyes leave your son’s face, you notice how his eyebrows narrow slightly and he turns his attention back to the photo. “i wish i met him.”
“me too, baby.” it came out quiet as a whisper, leaning forward to press a soft peck at his temple. “but he’s not gone gone.”
“what do you mean not gone gone?”
“well,” taking a deep breath, sensing how your eyes slowly started to turn glossy with tears. “he lives on in me, in my memory,” you say softly. “and in you,” grabbing his soft cheeks and rubbing your nose against his, causing a delightful little giggle to fill the space. “and all around.”
“all around?” he asks, the confused line between his brows deepening.
“i like to think so. for example, on sunny days i am sure he’s in the sunlight that kisses your skin, keeping you warm and safe. and you know when the wind is blowing so loud we hear it in the walls?”
“mhm,” he nods enthusiastically.
“i’m sure that’s your dad talking,” you laugh a little to yourself. “my god, how he used to talk. all the time.”
you keep looking for at the picture, reminding you of a time where you were able to enjoy the privilege of his strong arms around you, protecting you from any potential harm. it always amazed you, that despite everything he was put through, he was still soft and kind — truly one of his many brilliant qualities that he hadn’t let the world that was so cruel to him, tarnish him completely.
“he’s also in the rain,” you say, your voice falling back to a whisper when he turns to look at you again. you capture his eyes, trying to force a smile as his big eyes stare back at you with such curiosity. “you know how you’ve sometimes seen mommy just stand outside when it’s raining?” he nods. “i miss your dad more than anything, and it makes me sad sometimes. so when it rains, i like to go outside and feel the little droplets hit my face. i thinks it’s how he shows me he is still here, comforting me. sharing my pain so i don’t feel it on my own.”
you don’t even notice the shy tear that has rolled down your cheek until he reaches his small hand to gently wipe it away. “i don’t want you to be sad,” his voice is so full of compassion, wondering how such a small person could have such a big heart — he got that from satoru too.
“it’s okay to be sad sometimes,” you assure him. “it just proves that all i felt for your dad was real.”
he doesn’t seem to understand it fully, but you can’t blame him. he’s still just a kid after all. but as time pass, he'll grow up, it will all eventually make sense to him.
“mama?”
“yes, baby?”
“you’ve said before you talk to him.”
“yeah, all the time.”
“you think i can talk to him too?” your lips instantly start to tremble in an unsteady smile.
you nod slowly before pulling him closer, pressing your cheek against his. “of course! i think he would be happy to hear you talking to him.”
“where do you think he is now?” the loaded question comes out so innocently, unable to stop how you huff a breath, trying to find the right words that would give an answer a child could comprehend.
“i don’t know,” you said honestly, “but wherever he is, i hope he’s resting. that’s the least he deserves.”
with his eyes on the picture again, he gently wiggles out of your arms. his kindness steers his hand to dry more of your tears, again causing your lips to curve into a small smile.
“if it’s okay, i think i’m going to go talk to dad.”
“say hi to him from me, okay?” he nods, flashing you a grin similar to the one satoru bore in the picture in your hands. and he runs off into the garden, standing in the exact spot you so often find yourself in.

Capitano would occasionally find himself caught in moments when the weight of his duties seemed to pull him too far from you. Even though his responsibilities demanded the best of him, he could never forget the quiet joy he found in small acts of care, his affection wrapped in parcels, far away yet never distant.
When he was away on missions, he made sure that even in his absence, you always felt his presence. Wrapped gift boxes would arrive at your door, carefully packed with gifts chosen to nurture your spirit and keep you connected to him during the long, quiet hours.
Inside, there would always be an array of paints, vivid, rich hues, each one selected to reflect the shades he imagined you’d bring to life. Brushes with fine, supple bristles and palettes made of polished wood were nestled alongside spools of lace in intricate patterns, delicate and elegant, meant to inspire your craft. Every item was a token of his devotion, a gesture that spoke of his desire for you to find beauty and solace even when he was far away.
The paints and lace became tangible extensions of his love, ways of saying, I’m with you. They were silent promises, bridging the gap between him and you, even when he couldn’t be by your side. Each time you mixed a color or traced your fingers over the soft, intricate weaves of lace, it was as though you felt his presence, grounding you in his unwavering affection.
Upon his return, the sight of your finished creations, paintings filled with emotion or lacework that adorned your shared home, always filled him with a quiet, unspoken pride. Capitano, so stoic and commanding to the rest of the world, would find himself softened by these glimpses into your heart.
Sometimes, you would tuck small pieces of lace into the lining of his coat or paint tiny, intricate designs on a corner of his gauntlet; hidden details that only he knew were there. These small tokens, created with your own hands, were treasures he carried with him wherever he went. During quiet moments in the midst of battle, or when the solitude of his duties weighed heavily, he would trace the painted edge of his armor or run his gloved fingers over the lace tucked away in his coat.
“It’s like you’ve become a sentimental fool, Capitano,” one of his comrades might jest, smirking as they noticed his softened gaze lingering on the lace or paintwork.
Capitano would never respond to such remarks. He didn’t need to. The truth was, he wore those small details like armor, reminders of the love that awaited him beyond the battlefield. For him, they were anchors, tethering him to a life that was more than duty and chaos.
No matter how far his missions took him, no matter the storms he faced, he always carried a piece of you with him, stitched into the fabric of his life, painted onto the edges of his world. And when the weight of the world grew too heavy, those small, cherished pieces gave him the strength to carry on, until he could return to you again.

012825. moon carved, love written on skin
tsukishima kei x reader . . . cw / tsukki has a back tattoo. fluff. not proofread and i am sleepy. i dreamt about this lmao. notes / when will i stop writing for this 6ft stickbug pls. (gn again im gonna eep)
Tumblr media
tsukishima kei, years after high school, now in his mid-twenties. no longer the snot-nosed looking teenager that he once was, more taller, and softer and tender and so much more forgiving of himself— allowing his vulnerabilities to slip through quite easily with you.
then there's the tattoo, one he doesn't tell you about until now.
you only find out when the two of you are lounging at home one night, moonlight filtering through the curtains, bathing his skin in a dim-lit glow, low music humming in the background. he's lying facedown on the bed, his shirt discarded, and his glasses abandoned on the bedside table. he almost fooled you, making it seem like he’s sleeping, with slow breaths and closed eyes.
you see it clearly, the moon cycle inked onto his back.
“love,” you murmur, your voice laced with curiosity, careful as to confirm if he’s actually out like a light or not, “when were you planning to tell me about this?”
he stiffens almost instinctively, your fingers trace the faint outlines of his shoulder blades, trying to ease him. he turns his head slightly, one eye peeling open, the corner of his mouth curves in faint amusement, as if he didn’t anticipate getting caught in the first place. “wasn’t planning to.”
your hands explore the tattoo—the phases of the moon, spanning the breadth of his back and etched in crisp black ink. each phase feels like a pulse of one’s heartbeat you’ve come to learn and memorize, mirroring the cycles of your lives together: waxing, waning, full, and new.
“why the moon?” you ask softly, running a fingertip along the crescent. you’d never have guessed that the man you’ve come to love had anything as sentimental as this. feels like another layer of intimacy you’ve set foot on, a secret unearthed by the only person he’s planned to reveal it, almost as if this occurrence was already predetermined by him.
he trusts you so much it hurts, in a good way.
he hums, burying his face into the pillow, muffling his voice. “it’s for you.”
“for me?”
“yeah. don’t make me explain it—it’s embarrassing,” he grumbles, his ears tinged red. even more so when you chuckle whilst letting your hand caress his back.
but you can’t stop smiling, “no, no, kei. you can’t drop something like that and not explain.”
he groans into the pillow, but you don’t miss the way his fingers twitch against the sheets, betraying his nerves. after a beat, he rolls over onto his side, propping his head up with one hand, the other resting on his stomach, he looks at you and—your smile curls into a smirk, raising one eyebrow playfully—and then he urges you to join him.
so you do. cuddling into him as he sigh in faux resignation and gently planting a kiss to your temple. the old habits from his teenage years die hard.
“it’s... stupid,” he starts, hesitating.
you interrupt, your voice gentle but insistent. “i want to know.”
he exhales, trying to steel himself, his gaze fixating somewhere over your shoulder. “it’s the phases of the moon. you know, waxing, waning... all that.”
“i can see it, thanks,” you tease lightly, earning yourself a flat look.
“let me finish,” he mutters, his cheeks slightly pink. he fiddles with the hem of the blanket before continuing, quieter now. “it’s... because you remind me of the moon. you’re constant—always there—even if i’m too blind or stupid to notice it sometimes. and even when things feel... off, like everything’s dark, i know you’re still there, just waiting to come back.”
your chest tightens, his words sinking into you, pulls you in like gravity.
“you’re always changing, too,” he adds, his voice steady but soft. “growing, shifting... but still you. and i—” he pauses, swallowing thickly before meeting your gaze again, his expression open and raw in a way the ache never buries itself, only stretched into a shelter inside you that is love. “i just wanted something permanent. something for me. to remind me of you, even when you’re not... here.”
you blink rapidly, trying to keep your emotions in check, but your voice wavers when you respond. “...that’s not stupid at all.”
he scoffs lightly, looking away again, but there’s a faint smile tugging at his lips. “a little, still.”
“it’s perfect,” you counter, sliding closer to press your forehead against his. “and you’re lucky you explained it, or i might’ve cried.”
“you’re already crying,” he points out, brushing a thumb against your cheek, his voice teasing but tender.
“my bad.”
he laughs quietly, you stare at the moon with warmth.
his thumb lingers on your cheek, tracing gentle circles, “you’re ridiculous,” you say, though your voice carries no malice—just a kind of awe tinged in disbelief. “keeping this to yourself for so long…”
he shrugs one shoulder, the ghost of a smirk playing on his lips. “didn’t think it was worth mentioning.”
“you have an entire tattoo on your back—dedicated to me—and you thought it wasn’t worth mentioning?”
he opens his mouth to respond but falters, and for a second, you see the remnants of his old high school self, the boy who avoids vulnerability like it was a volleyball hurtling toward him. but he doesn’t retreat now, he lets you see him in full view.
“it’s not that i didn’t want to tell you,” he admits. “it’s just… i didn’t know how. or when. and i guess…” he trails off, his brows knitting together like he’s trying to piece together the right words. “i guess i wanted it to be... ours, you know? just ours. something no one else gets to know about.”
you cup his face in your hands, your thumbs brushing over his cheekbones, and he leans into your touch, his eyes fluttering shut.
“kei,” you murmur, your voice steady despite the lump in your throat. “you’re incredible, you know that?”
his eyes flutter open, half-lidded gaze as he blinks to your lips, “you’re being dramatic.”
“no, i’m being honest,” pressing a kiss to his forehead as you continue, “you’re incredible, and this—” your hand moves to trace the outline of his tattoo again, arms stretched to reach his back, fingers light and reverent. “this means the world to me.”
you hear the slight hitch of his breath. the way his arms tighten around you says more than words ever could. “i’m glad you like it,” he murmurs eventually, breathless.
“i love it. just like i love you.”
“good,” he says, his voice teasing but soft. “because i don’t plan on getting rid of it.”
“good,” you echo, settling back against him, your head resting on his chest. you can feel the steady beat of his heart beneath your ear, it’s telling you what you already know, but always search for a reminder: you’re home with him.
the two of you stay like that for a while, until kei speaks again,
“i guess this means you’re stuck with me now,” he says, his tone light but tinged with something deeper. he chuckles to himself, “i love you, too.” and he’s glad these words are already carved to his skin. his own museum he’s carved just for you.

bachelor!abby who’s positively gleeful the first time she gets you back to her penthouse, trying not to trip over her shoes as she stumbles through the door with you in tow and practically drags you to her bedroom. you’re beautiful in your long black sheath dress, but even more so when you step out of it, fabric pooling on the floor along with abby’s jaw. she tries not to stare, but she can’t help herself, eyes skimming your figure as she tries not to cry at the reincarnation of venus being in her fucking bedroom. you’re on the bed and for a second it almost feels as if you belong here, like you could live in her apartment with her forever and maybe take her last name whilst you’re at it—and fuck, she’s not normally one to be this sentimental about the girls she fools around with, but is it her fault your heels look so perfect at the foot of her bed? it doesn’t take her long to get distracted from the domestic thoughts though, fingers scrambling to unhook your bra (red, just like the soles of your shoes, she vaguely registers) as her teeth graze the top of your breasts, hand coming up to grope at them as she tries not to stare. briefly she wonders if you’d let her do a line off your tit, maybe chase it with a body shot, but she tamps the thought down in her mind and stores it for a later date. right now, she’s not convinced you’re not going to walk out the door and so she leaves a trail of sloppy, open mouthed kisses down your stomach and snags your underwear in her teeth in a desperate attempt to keep you here via the art of seduction. it seems to work because you moan a little, swallowing the sound lest it inflates her ego a little too much as she drags dark lace down your legs and buries her face between them. your hands wind onto her hair and tug as her tongue laves over your clit and she groans so hard you can feel the vibration against you. what she lacks in finesse she makes up for in enthusiasm, pausing to nip at your thigh and leave the indents of her teeth before returning her attentions back to you, practically purring as your hands dig further into her dirty blonde tresses. you don’t let her relish in it for long though, eyes rolling as you pull at her locks, voice dripping with condescension. “that seriously the best you got? c’mon, i could get better from some guy behind a strip mall—” abby cuts you off with a slap to your clit, light enough that you don’t scream out but hard enough to sting, moaning as you writhe beneath her. “where are your manners?” she chides, eyes glinting as her breath fans hot over your cunt and you squirm a little, desperate to have her mouth back on you. “didn’t your mother ever teach you not to insult the host?” she tuts before sliding two fingers into you, tongue tracing circles on your clit as you sob, hips canting up to meet her as she crooks her digits inside of you and you yelp out an apology. “yeah, yeah. thought so. now stay still or i’m gonna walk out of here and leave you like this.”

hi!! I read your fics and I love your writing style! I was wondering if you could do something with a human reader, maybe she works in a bookshop or she’s a teacher? And it’s all cute because he finds her genuine??? Maybe some angst because she finds herself in danger? Idk sorry I’m rambling I just wanted something with a human reader 🧍🏻‍♀️💐
Tumblr media

The sky is heavy with the promise of rain, and you suck your breath in through your teeth. It’s fifty-fifty on days like these: either people will seek shelter in your little store, or they’ll scurry away with the fear any purchases they make will get soaked and ruined.
God damn it, what kind of fool opens an independent book shop in New York?
You’re the kind of fool, apparently. Still, it’s your home, both figuratively between all the old paperbacks and literally with your tiny apartment on the top floor. Barely more than a studio, but enough for you. A piece for yourself carved out of this world.
Outside it starts to pour. You sigh. Well, at least you know you’ll get one visitor today.
Charles, your dear friend and long-time financial supporter of your store, had called earlier to let you know that the usual face wouldn’t be coming to grab his order. It’s a shame, you like Ororo, enjoy sitting and sharing a pot of oolong with her on quiet days. Also she could have chased away this terrible weather for you. Ah well.
“Who can I expect?” you’d asked.
Charles had laughed, a warm and friendly sound.
“Ahh, you’ll know Logan when you see him.”
You don’t know what you’d do without Charles. Between orders of rare books for his personal collections and en-masse copies of classics for the kids, he pretty much keeps this place running for you. Bless that man, honestly, because you’re not sure where you’d be without him.
The sound of someone pulling up outside has you putting down your book and turning towards the shop window.
A pickup truck parks up by the kerbside and you watch the man in the driver’s seat emerge into the rain. He cuts a fine figure, tall and strong, but you don’t get a good look at him until he walks through the front door.
Oh no, you think, he’s handsome.
Leather jacket now pocked with raindrops, very obvious white vest beneath it showing off his broad chest. He shakes like a dog to get the moisture out of his hair as he stamps his boots on the doormat, pausing only briefly to scrutinise its no admittance expect on party business slogan.
“Logan?” you ask. He looks up and when his eyes first meet yours? Oh, a fire is sent down your spine.
“Yeah,” he confirms, looking around to take in the place. You can’t tell if he’s impressed or not. He has a remarkably neutral face, careful, the sort of man who doesn’t want to give anything away about himself.
“You’re… here for Charles’ books?”
He’s sauntering over to the counter now. Cocks an eyebrow. It goes right through you. Fuck.
“That’d be me.” There’s a beat. “Why, you think someone’d try and steal them?”
“People can steal books!” you say, defensively.
“People named Logan who you’re clearly expecting?”
You bristle, because he’s got you. Something flickers over his face for a second: a smile.
Oh no, you think, he’s handsome and he’s an asshole.
Huffing, you fish the box out from under the desk and groan with effort as you lift it up. Logan takes it from your grasp as if it weighs nothing at all. Your fingers touch as you do. You try to ignore it.
“Thanks,” he says, easily.
“Mm. Mind the rain. It’d be a shame if you slipped.”
A proper smile crosses his face then, but he turns away too quickly for you to let it sink in. The bell on the door chimes as he heads back out into the rain.
Well, you hope you never see him again.
Tumblr media
By the same time next week, you’re really hoping you see him again.
You’ve sort of not been able to get him out of your mind. He was kinda prickly, sure, but a welcome break from the mundanity of your life, and pretty good looking to boot. It’s probably just a pipe dream. You’re sure it’ll be Ororo again, and you can go back to the easy pattern of seeing your dear friend. That’s okay. You’re fine with it. Who needs a handsome man? You have your books, you have your store, you’re happy.
Yeah. You’re happy.
Imagine your surprise, then, when you hear a motorbike outside your shop.
You must be blessed with street parking, because Logan pulls up right outside again. Same jacket, same well-worn jeans. He catches your eye through the window and you’re sure they glisten. You pretend to be engrossed in your book but it’s not fooling anyone, the words swim into soup on the page as you see him approach.
The door goes; he approaches the counter. Closer this time, you can smell him. Tobacco and leather. Fuck it’s good.
“You should wear a helmet,” you say, trying to be flippant. Logan lets out a single, solitary note of a chuckle from deep in his chest.
“I’ll be fine. Thanks for your concern, though.”
You feel your cheeks heat up and try to hide it by looking for Charles’ order again. It’s a single book, a first edition you had to go through the backwater book depositories to hunt down. You’re the best at what you do, though, so it was no real problem. It’s why he always comes to you.
“Here you go. Let him know I’ll try and find the sequel if he’s interested, too.”
“Sure.”
Once again your fingers touch as you hand the book to Logan. No. No, this is too quick! You want to keep him here for a little while longer. He looks so out of place between the wonky shelves and hanging plants, it’s just perfect.
Your mouth tries to say two things at once: can you tell Charles I’ll have his other order ready same time next week, and, do you like to read often?
Instead what comes out is, “can you read?”
You must wince when you ask the question, because Logan stands there transfixed. Baffled, just for a second.
“Can I… read?” he repeats slowly.
I’ve failed you, I’m so fucking sorry I didn’t stop your mouth in time, says your brain.
“I didn’t mean… of course you read… I just… I didn’t want to assume… maybe you didn’t like books… erm…”
“Yeah, I read,” he says softly, as if you are an old dog and he is putting you out of your misery. You fucking wish he would. Jesus Christ, it’s like you’ve never spoken to another person before.
You can’t find a way to recover this. Your cheeks are on fire. You’re going to explode and burn down your store. Oh authors, you are so sorry for using all these works as kindling.
You expect Logan to turn on his heel and walk out but he… doesn’t. Instead he takes a step back so that he can look at the shelf nearest to the desk. Runs his fingers across the spines before picking one. It’s slim, no more than the width of his finger; he puts it on the counter and fishes his wallet out of his pocket.
In the Miso Soup by Ryū Murakami. You ring him up, punching the price into your old cash register, give him his change. His palm is soft as you drop coins into it.
“See you next week,” he says, stashing both his book and Charles’ inside his jacket.
“Okay,” you say, amazed you’re able to get any words out, and watch him walk away again.
Tumblr media
He does see you next week.
The sun’s out, so he’s sans jacket, and oh fuck you can see how his arms are like treetrunks. The way this man has you reacting is unhealthy. You try and focus on the hardback in your hands but all you can picture is those veins which are bulging on his biceps, begging you to come and get to know them better.
“You’re always reading huh?”
His voice makes you jump a little, you’re not expecting him to be so close. You look up. He slides his sunglasses up into his hair. Fuck it’s the hottest thing you’ve ever seen.
“Would you trust a bookstore owner who didn’t read?” you ask, bristling with the need to defend this little shop and your place in it. He holds his hands up in the universal sign of peace.
“Not an insult, just an observation.”
You sink back from attack mode, walls still a little high, but definitely coming down.
“How did you get on with the Murakami last week?”
Logan takes a moment to consider this, trying to piece his answer together in a way which won’t offend you.
“I liked it until the last chapter.”
You sit up in your chair.
“Yes! A lot of people say that. It feels like it ends sort of abruptly, but if you just appreciate it for what it is, it’s a good book.”
He smiles a little as you speak. You fucking love talking about books, to a degree some people find absurd. You don’t want to babble though, so you force yourself to end your observations there.
Logan nods at the book in your hands.
“What are you reading now?”
You lift up your book so he can see the cover: A. S. Byatt’s The Djinn in the Nightingale’s Eye.
“It’s very good! Byatt has such a wonderful way of writing. I love fairy tales and there’s such a wonderful voice in this one. They made the titular story into a movie a couple of years back, it’s quite good actually, it has Tilda Swinton in it.” You’re floundering. Don’t stray too far from the normal lines of conversation. Mouth, for fuck’s sake stay on course, begs your brain. It doesn’t. Instead you ask, “do you… like Tilda Swinton?”
Logan raises an eyebrow and you know this is a man who has never once had to consider the question of whether or not he likes the actress Tilda Swinton.
Mouth still talking. MOUTH STILL TALKING, your brain screams. It’s true. It is. You were too busy being horrified to notice.
What your mouth says while being unchaperoned is, “There’s a little single-screen theatre nearby doing a showing of it this week, actually, do you wanna come with?”
DID YOU JUST ASK HIM OUT. DID YOU JUST ASK HIM OUT?!
Logan doesn’t seem to know what to make of that. He seems just as shocked that you’ve asked as you are. But then, just as you want to cast yourself into the street so that a passing garbage truck might take pity on you and sweep you away, he smiles. It’s slow, but it makes him look so much hotter.
“Sure, why not.”
Oh mouth you genius. I shall never doubt you again.
“Oh, okay, great! Uhh, are you free Friday?”
“I can be. What time’s the screening?”
“Seven. Meet me here at six-thirty?”
“It’s a date.”
Fuck, it is a date, isn’t it. It’s a date!
Logan stands there, awaiting something. You’re confused for a beat, then go up on your tiptoes, aiming your mouth towards his.
“As much as I appreciate the gesture… Charles’ book, honey.”
Hmmm, okay. Still time for the earth to just swallow you whole then, actually.
Tumblr media
You sort of don’t expect him to turn up. You wouldn’t go on a date with you, all awkward edges and uncomfortable words. And he’s… the coolest fucking guy you’ve ever seen.
Of course he won’t turn up. Of course he won’t.
He turns up.
He’s waiting for you outside the store, leaning against a lamppost, dressed in flannel and smelling like subtle cologne. You can’t help lighting up when you see him and hope you’re dressed suitably - your nicest pair of dungarees and a tight-fitting jumper.
“Hey! You made it,” you say.
“‘Course I did,” he replies with a little smile. Oh, you’re giddy.
“C’mon, it’s not a long walk. It’s a nice night too.”
He lets you chatter as the two of you make the brief journey, content to have you talk his ear off about business and books. He’s happy to answer any questions you ask him about himself: what he does for a living, how he knows Charles, if he’s got anything else on his to-read list. The two of you skirt around the most obvious thing: if he lives at the mansion, he’s definitely a mutant. You can’t quite get the courage to ask him about it. Seems easier to just let it lie, so you do. It’s not that important anyway, you think, you like Logan, with or without any extra bits.
When you arrive at the little hole-in-the-wall cinema, he gets the tickets and the popcorn and the drinks. You do your best not to feel absolutely pathetic by his side. Surely everyone here knows you’re punching above your weight with this absolute grade A specimen of a man? You’re so busy looking around the foyer to make sure nobody is staring that you almost don’t realise when he takes your hand in his.
“You with me, honey?” he asks, soft, low. You swallow thickly and nod because for once, you can’t find the words.
It’s not a very full screening, which is just fine, because you’re happy to be alone with Logan in the dark. You share a bucket of popcorn and a secret little thrill runs up your spine every time your fingers brush together. When that’s finished, he puts his arm around the back of your chair and you snuggle up against his side, cursing the damn plastic cupholder in the middle forcing you to keep a distance.
One hundred and eight minutes. They’re not enough. You want to be here forever. But eventually the credits roll, the lights come up, and Logan has to pull his arm back; you hope the reluctance in the withdrawal of the gesture isn’t just your imagination.
“What did you think?” you ask, standing up and stretching. Logan follows suit, mulling over the question.
“It was… cute,” he decides. “I can see why you like it.”
You beam.
“I can lend you the book if you want. It goes into way more detail about the main character’s life at the start, it’s very stream-of-consciousness but I really enjoy it? It’s different to the other stories before it but definitely worth reading. I think that…”
You’re outside now, under the streetlights, fingers tangled easily with his, and when he stills you’re pulled to a stop too.
“Hmm?”
He drops his grip on your hand so that he can put one under your jaw, tilting your head to get a better look at you. Your heart beats violently. He can definitely feel it. He knows. You don’t care. Fuck, he’s so near.
“You talk a lot, huh?” he asks. It’s not unkind, the smile on his face is one of fondness, and all of your skeleton turns to jelly as you fucking melt under the affection in his gaze.
“Please shut me up,” your beg comes out as a whisper, and he does.
His lips are rough against yours, guiding, but sweet. The hair on his face tickles your cheeks. You wrap your arms around his shoulders and bring him down to kiss him with more enthusiasm. This is not a public-appropriate display of affection, and someone honks their car horn at you both, but it just serves to make you laugh against his mouth and keep going. His hands slide onto your hips and hold you tight against him. Possessive. Wanting. Covetous.
“You know,” he says when he pulls back for air, still running his lips along the line of your jaw to the hinge beneath your ear, “when Charles told me I should go and get those books, he said I’d like the person who runs the store. Didn’t expect you to be such a gorgeous little thing, though.”
You, gorgeous! Logan thinks you’re gorgeous! You could do a fucking cartwheel in celebration. You don’t though, you’d probably give yourself a concussion.
His hand goes to his pocket and his brow furrows and, for a second, you panic. Has he started regretting kissing you already? Another quick kiss calms that down though, settling the simmer of worry in your stomach.
“I think I left my wallet in the theatre. Hold on, I’ll grab it, then I’ll walk you home?”
“Only if you come in with me,” you breathe, and once again your mouth has taken the reins on that one. Logan huffs a laugh, a little incredulous, but mostly pleased at your gumption.
“Okay, sweetheart. Okay.”
He leaves you standing there, feeling all tingly. This is happening. It’s fucking happening! Sometimes the stars align for a book nerd and a handsome guy wants to come up to their studio apartment. You thank Jesus, Buddha, Arthur C. Clarke - whoever is listening, they fucking deserve it.
“You gonna fuck that mutant?”
The voice sends a chill down your throat.
The trio of guys standing behind you do not look friendly. The biggest one, the one standing in the middle, sneers at your panic, crossing thick arms over a broad chest.
“Well? I asked you a question.”
You screw your courage to the sticking place, puffing up a little.
“Don’t see how that’s any of your business,” you spit back, hoping that vitriol will deter them. It does not. Instead, they close in, hyenas around a cadaver.
“Never had a human dick you down good enough, huh? Need a little help? C’mon baby, we’ll show you.”
He reaches out to grab your arm. You let out a noise of panic.
At the same time, Logan’s fist collides with his face.
The guy is sent stumbling back, spitting out a globule of blood. His friends step away with panic in their eyes. Logan moves in front of you, his bulk your shield, three metal claws extending from between his knuckles.
Yeah. Mutant, huh?
“I think you were just leaving, pal,” says Logan in a voice which doesn’t bear messing with. The man bares his reddened teeth.
“The fuck do you think you are, mutant scum--?!”
He lunges for Logan and the breath is sucked from your lungs when you see he’s pulling out a fucking knife, but another punch sends him flat on his ass. The blade clatters across the street and into the gutter. His friends grab either one of his arms and half stand him up, half drag him away.
“Shit, it’s not worth it—!” is their conclusion as they disappear into the night, shouting back expletives, blood trailing from their leader. Logan shakes out his fist, flexes his fingers; claws retract. He turns to you, slowly.
“You okay?” he asks, hurriedly checking you over. You nod.
“Y…yeah. Shaken.” you confess.
“C'mon. Let’s get you home,” he sighs, and from the cadence of his voice you can tell he’s worried the night has been ruined. You place your hand on his bicep.
“Logan?”
“Yeah?”
“Will you still… will you still come up?”
He softens.
“If it’ll make you feel safer, sweetheart.”
It does.
And that’s how you find him sitting on your well-loved couch in between your needlepoint pillows, looking around your tiny home as you make a pot of coffee to share.
“Jesus, you’ve got more books in here than in the store,” he mutters.
“Well, some of them I couldn’t part with. I like them too much. And, as you pointed out, I am always reading.”
You look around at the shelves stuffed into your flat, the dozens of them holding hundreds of novels, plays, poems. You love them all dearly. They all hold a special piece of your heart, you can remember where you were when you read most of them. (Downstairs while manning the desk is often the answer).
“Oh, even this?”
You can hear the smile in Logan’s voice. He’s holding up a copy of Fifty Shades. You scoff, rolling your eyes.
“Christ, I read that as a professional courtesy to the art of bookselling. Got it for fifty cents at a thrift store. It’s crap. If you want some good erotica I can recommend…”
The sentence lingers unfinished. Logan raises his eyebrows.
“You can recommend what, huh?”
The coffee is ready. You can smell its rich scent enveloping your little apartment. An idea forms. Creates a heavy anticipation on your tongue. Your brain screams at you.
Locked. Loaded. Fire, mouth, fire!
“… then I’d recommend you take me to bed,” you say.
Logan stares, eyes wide. You’ve had an immediate effect on him. His pupils dilate.
“I… honey, after earlier, I’m not sure if you should…”
You cross the room and sit on his lap, an easy feat when his legs are so thick and inviting. His sentence stops as you press your mouth to the pulse in his neck. Kiss.
“I’m a consenting adult,” a kiss on his cheek, “who’s invited you into their home,” a kiss on his brow, “and is asking you to take them across their painfully tiny apartment and fuck them. If you don’t want to, that’s okay, but Logan? I’ve been game ever since you first walked in from the rain.”
He looks up at you to double check that you’re telling the truth, then kisses you with such ferocity that you squeak.
You do not make it to the bed.
He undresses you there on the sofa in the middle of your bookshelves, between Brontë and Austen, beside Carter and Rushdie. Your clothes end up in a messy little pile on the coffee table. It gets kicked and the pile of literary magazines slide to the floor as Logan moves to take off his shoes, letting you drag his jeans down and off of him, cupping his cock in his boxers.
Fuck. Thick, heavy, large, you want all of it. All of him.
He leans you back against your kitschy little pillows with book quotes on them and pulls your dungarees off, an act both ridiculous and endearing. He catches your knee in his hand and begins to kiss up your thigh towards your underwear.
“Fuck,” you whisper as he presses a kiss to your sex over the fabric. He grins up at you from between your legs.
“That was the plan.”
He fucks you with his mouth like a man starved, luxuriating in the little sounds you make for him, pressing fingers inside you without any effort at all. You cum all over his knuckles embarrassingly quickly. He looks sorta smug.
“Baby, when was the last time someone took care of you…?” he asks, licking a stripe along your sex to taste what he’s done. You huff.
“Too long. You gonna fix that?”
It’s a challenge and he takes it as one. You strip off his shirt, making sure to get a good feel of his muscles as you go, kissing his pectorals and abs just because you can. He slides inside you with one thrust, one of your legs in a crook at his hip; the other with its ankle resting on his shoulder. He starts moving and the couch shakes but all you can do is cling on for dear life to the crocheted blanket.
“Holy shit… so fuckin’ tight… aren’t you just the most gorgeous thing…” he hisses. You reach up enough to tangle your fingers in his hair and drag him down for a kiss, sloppy and charged with heat. His hand moves in between your legs and you cum for the second time that night, hissing with satisfaction as he spills inside you.
You collapse onto the sofa together, your heavy breaths harmonising. When he pulls back to kiss you this time it’s softer. With intention. With reference.
“Uh, you know, they’re showing To Kill a Mockingbird next week. Maybe dinner beforehand, if you’re interested?”
He laughs affectionately and you can feel the rumble in his chest.
“Sounds good. You’ll have to lend me the book first.”
Fuck yeah. You’re never doubting your mouth again.

Yandere Phainon inspecting your body
Phainon x gn! reader
Tumblr media
cw: dubcon-ish touch and exposure, yandere Phainon, suggestive, clothes withholding, love bombing, humiliation, reader is insecure, Phainon is slightly delusional. Word count: 1.5k
Imagine Phainon being so obsessed with you that he feels compelled to inspect every part of your body.
There was nothing about you that Phainon didn’t glorify, whether some parts of you would be considered as imperfections by others or not. Anything less fitting for the beauty canon only made you more human to him.
Unfortunately for you, such sentiments got him force you to face each of your insecurities, as you now stood in front of him in nothing but your underwear, for him to inspect your body. You weren’t much eager to end up in this situation, but Phainon’s few sweet and affectionate poet-like lines got you convinced enough to let him put you in this state. Suddenly, your shared bedroom no longer felt like a safe space for you to rest in his arms and talk to him about anything your mind has gathered throughout the day.
You didn’t move, a sense of shame and humiliation burning you and keeping you in your spot. Instead, it was Phainon circling you, his eyes scanning each part of your body with looks of appreciation or analysis. You’ve never felt more vulnerable in your life before, because while you’ve been intimate with Phainon before, he never made it a show of scrutinizing you; or rather, it was easy to forget yourself and acknowledgment of your physical being when lost in bliss.
You felt even more nervous when he finally stopped in front of you, a supposedly warm smile on his face. What will he do now? “You look so tense as if I’m going to eat you up or something,” he chuckled lightly, his voice so soft that it didn’t match the stressful situation. “I just wish to admire my other half for a little bit.”
Phainon was either not aware of the discomfort and creep this circumstance would have brought anyone, or he simply made you look like a fool here—you’re so silly, so shy, so insecure over nothing and he’s your loving lover worshipping you regardless.
When his hand landed on your stomach, you immediately tried to grab his hand, but he kept it on your belly. “Phainon, I think you’ve seen enough!” you protested in distress, feeling out of your body’s comfort, when he caressed one of the rolls here. “Shh, my love. You have nothing to worry about,” he said reassuringly and kissed your forehead, but any further protests, he’ll simply ignore. In his mind, you were just too self conscious over nothing, and exposure therapy might do you well. Isn’t this what people wanted, to be accepted by their partners for each part of them? He found you most beautiful anyway.
You felt like crying. Your belly was one of the most sensitive spots on the list of your insecurities, and now you had to be worried where his hand will land next. And you were right to worry, as his right hand ended going up onto your nose next.
“Such a cute nose,” he said gently, rubbing his finger down the bridge of your nose that was curving to the side. A little bit crooked, enough to make you hate it sometimes. Your nose scrunched upon his touch, both from intrusion and your growing sense of unease, only for Phainon to chuckle again. “You are quite sensitive here too! Maybe I should kiss your face all over the next time.”
The idea should have sounded affectionate to you, yet with how unbearable he made his touches, his words filled you only with worry. You really weren’t sure how comfortable with Phainon’s touch you will be after he’s finally, hopefully, done with the body inspection. “Phainon, I’m not feeling like—“ you tried to say no again, but you gave up in the middle when you noticed he wasn’t even listening to you. You assumed letting him do this will end this circus show sooner.
Phainon was instead busy being marveled by the idea of your beauty he created in his mind; coming up with it each moment of analyzing and deciding that you have a lot he loved about, but even more he didn’t want others to see. “I don’t think I ever want to let you go, beloved,” he whispered to himself.
It was becoming ironic that any other day you’d cry from the happiness hearing such words, only for them to be uncomfortable to hear this time.
Phainon moved to stand behind you next moment, making you feel less in control when you couldn’t see his face and judge his intention on it. You jolted when he touched your back, no matter how warm his hand was. The spot was so specific and you knew he found your mole, one you always hid by denying yourself of backless clothes; more darker and bigger than the rest, enough for you to deem it as disgusting.
His voice was cheerful anyway, “Haha, I must have left that mole on your back in the previous life you had. I’ve heard that moles are where a soulmate kissed you in your previous existence.” The implication of him considering himself to be your soulmate in this life too was clear. Would you really want to be bonded to him for the rest of your life? You felt loved by Phainon, but each day of Phainon monopolizing you in his life has started to overwhelm you lately.
At this point, tears started to gather on your lashline. Phainon didn’t see your face, but he noticed the small tremble of your back, and leaned in to kiss your mole between your shoulder blades. “These must be the tears of happiness, I assume,” he murmured against your skin, as he enjoyed the warmth of your skin against his face and wanted to stay like this for a second—human’s flesh to flesh, all alive—with his cheek pressed against your back. “To finally have someone who will love you regardless of your imperfections, when others may not be so accepting of you.”
You suddenly squirmed and tried to move forwards after hearing that. Phainon made it sound like a compliment, but in your state of mind or maybe even objectively, this compliment was nothing but backhanded. He wasn’t denying you have something to worry about—instead, he was confirming your imperfections are indeed real and to worry about, and that others might actually hate them like you do. Phainon didn’t let you move, and wrapped his arms around you, and after trying to fight him off of you for long, dreadful seconds, you finally gave up and broke down.
He held you behind you like this, letting you cry in his arms. “I know, I know,” he said softly, trying to comfort you. “You have nothing to worry about anymore, not if you have me.” He kissed your shoulder gently, he kept spilling soothing words into your ear, and you squirmed again. You wanted to scream in frustration at how much he misunderstood. You weren’t happy, you weren’t relieved, you felt as if each part of you was unpeeled from your body for him to see and made to sound as if they were actually ugly—just accepted.
It’s your body first, and so a mind exploration was just a matter of time with him.
Especially now, when even your crying sounded and looked beautiful to Phainon. He was more focused on observing you than worried about your feelings, his love for you growing, as even your vulnerability was worth of worshiping. He felt so departed from his human side, it felt comforting to see humanity through you. And even if you might feel rejected by others, wouldn’t it mean you’ll need him even more?
Right when your cries were near dying down, you thought this torture was finally over, just for Phainon to grab onto your thighs next—in your mind, so disproportionally big to the rest of your body. He was standing behind you still, talking directly into your ear. “So soft… I wish I could sleep on your thighs every night, instead of our pillows…” he mused teasingly, and his grip on your waist tightened from his excitement he felt from just talking about you for so long like a madman. “Though I assume that wouldn’t be really comfortable for you. However…” Phainon’s voice was filled with intention. You felt dread fill you—your lover clearly wasn’t done with you, when you already felt near breaking point for today. You just stopped crying!
“I think you should stay undressed like that,” he continued his speech with contented tone, making you feel scared at this point. Trashing in his grasp didn’t stop his romanticized talk, one you desperately wished to shut down as you couldn’t bear this undressed state anymore. “I wish to see you like this for a bit longer, just for the rest of the night while I hold you in your sleep. I’m sure there’s many more parts of you I didn’t get to fully explore and love.” But you didn’t feel like you’ll be able to sleep near him tonight, not when he plans to stare at you like a creep all night.
Before you could protest again, Phainon maneuvered you around, needing to kiss you with desperation after all that he has learned about his lover today.

casual
suguru geto x f!reader
**loosely based on casual by my beloved chappell roan

in the three months that you spend with suguru geto, he leaves a sour taste in your mouth and it’s not only because he tastes like black coffee. and in the two months that follow, before your deeply unfortunate circumstantial reunion, the last five words that you uttered to him, the sentiment behind them, only seems to grow.
you can go to hell.
and it’s all you can think when he shows up to the emergency room – a pinkish sunburn across his nose, his hair messily tied back – and eyes dripping in a concern that fills you with a rage. and it’s a deep sigh that he gives you, before reaching for your hand.
“what happened to you, peach?”
--
the general education class that you choose to satisfy your values and ethics inquiry is the sociology of religion. counting all the stakes – a stellar review on rate my professors, a night class at the start of the week, and minimal homework – it makes for the most ideal choice.
“so what’s your major?”
the downside? the midterm and final project are group assignments. and on any other occasion, you would have appreciated it – getting to split the work, taking some of the load off and sharing the work with someone, except for the fact that you didn’t know anyone in the class – and for the most part, you were expecting some half-brained idiot that would make you do all the work.
you suppose it’s at least fair that he’s not horrible to look at. in the dimmed lights of your apartment, there’s something almost off putting about your partner, suguru geto. you count seven piercings across his ears – dangling silver pieces almost shining in the glint of the light – and the smallest rim of purple around his eyes. harsh cheekbones, a hard jaw, and wrinkles by his eyes.
“educational studies. what’s yours?” you state.
“computer science.”
you hum in response, filling the two glasses with water and snatching one of the peaches from its container before taking your seat across from him, noting that he has a dimple on the left side when he smiles in response to your gesture.
“did you want some?” you ask, holding the peach in between the two of you.
he shakes his head, slumping against the counter in what seems an almost unnatural pose – his long limbs spreading into the space underneath your chair. you wonder if he always had an unusual way of taking up space.
and it seems that as time goes on, he gets more and more unusual. quietly working through the portions that you split up, except for a few deep breaths here and there, though he would stop once in a while and would almost ask for approval of what he had written, waiting for some confirmation from you that it was okay with you.
“you’re comparing adam and eve to…orpheus? i’m not really familiar with that.” you state.
suguru nods, before turning towards you to explain. his eyes waver in the slightest as he turns over to you, his gaze flitting down to your lips, before looking back up at you.
“you don’t have to be polite. you really can have some if you want, it’s really sweet.” you state.
suguru smiles.
“maybe later.”
you shrug.
“so orpheus…”
“it’s a really old greek myth. orpheus and eurydice. to kind boil it down, eurydice is in the underworld with hades. and orpheus is trying to convince hades to let her return to the mortal world, with him.”
he scoots his chair a little bit closer to you and you’re able to note one thing – that there’s a resonance in his voice, that it hums in his chest when he talks.
“hades tells him that he’ll let him take eurydice with him, but on one condition. she has to walk behind him.”
“that’s not that hard.”
suguru grins.
“isn’t it?” he asks.
you pause.
“you’re being told by this big, all powerful god, that she’s walking behind you. but you can’t look. you wouldn’t even consider the fact that you were being fooled? that maybe she had decided not to follow?”
“i mean, i guess. i don’t think it would really cross my mind, i…i think i’d just follow out all the way til the end because i’d kind of have faith if that’s what i was promised. and that she’d want to come with me too.”
suguru pauses, like he’s almost taking in what you’ve said – like it’s the first time he’s heard it – and responds rather slowly.
“you’re rather trusting, aren’t you?”
you roll your eyes.
“is that such a bad thing? what do you think about it?”
suguru shrugs.
“it was a worthless pursuit in the first place. there was no way that he wouldn’t have turned around and looked back.”
“what do you mean?”
“it’s simple. he loves her. if he hears something that deceives him – like the sound of her tripping over a rock – he doesn’t think. he looks back. if he thinks that she isn’t there, he won’t be able to get over it and he’ll turn around.”
you pause, mulling the thought over. and you suppose it’s true – that if you really did love something, it would be almost impossible not to check for the promise of their presence.
“i guess. so what? she goes back to the underworld?”
“yeah. it’s one of the most tragic love stories.”
“i guess it’s kind of romantic. that he loved her so much that he had to look back, like it was almost an instinct.”
and in the split second that the two of you stare at each other, he leans forward, pressing his lips to yours, with the strong taste of coffee lingering on his lips.
you’ve kissed three people before in your life – the boy you sat next to in the seventh grade, your date to the prom, and now suguru geto.
the first was overwhelming. a quick locking of the lips, that at the time, made you nearly erupt into a puddle of butterflies. the second was lackluster. waxy from too much chapstick, abrupt from the fact that he was quick to shove his tongue in your mouth.
and the third was indescribable. only because you could feel it – something lingering under his demeanor that you couldn’t exactly place. there wasn’t a word for the feeling it gave you – though there was one that was close enough.
curiosity. about what that feeling is, about who suguru geto was, and why he felt so inclined to kiss you upon your third meeting.
you wanted more of it.
“you’re right, you know?” he murmurs, breath warm against your lips.
“about being trusting?”
he laughs.
“no. about the peach. it really is sweet.”
he leans back, eyes fixed on the reading in front of the two of you again, as you reach up to touch your lips, the sticky sweetness of the fruit gone from your skin.
--
suguru comes around often after the fact. always here and there, an almost abrupt and concise text testing the waters.
[suguru]: is your roommate home?
[you]: nope. she’s at the district.
[suguru]: can i keep you company?
[you]: okay!
and he always arrives promptly twenty minutes after the fact, to the point where you wondered if he lingered around just to get there as fast as he could. and never empty handed – with dinner, dessert, or a flower that he plucked out of the cement in his hands.
that was the thing that confused you about him.
after the very first time you kissed, he had made one thing very clear.
no attachments. you’re not together.
but yet, he’d show up sometimes and do nothing but kiss your forehead and sleep in your bed next to you. or make you do something entirely mundane – like watch toy story three with a sheet of cookies in your oven – or watch you study.
and in the two weeks you had known him, you knew better than to question. your curiosity never stopped you, but you found that you were always left with more questions than the vague answers that he gave you.
“hey peach?”
“yeah?”
“your mom is calling.”
you widen your eyes, immediately snatching the phone from him, and giving him a weary smile. and you side shuffle into the walkway between the laundry and your bedroom, pressing the phone to your ear and murmuring under your breath.
“hi mom.”
“hi doll. how are classes?”
you pick at the loose thread of your sweater, nearly breaking the seams of the sleeve, noting suguru’s curious eyes – that he’s very poignantly trying to hide – from the kitchen.
“they’re good, ma. what’s up?”
“right. i’m so sorry to do this to you, my sweet, but i won’t be home when you get back.”
“what?”
“we’re going on a trip to see sheila in new york. and well, her vacation is only during those dates and we want to spend as much time with her as we can.”
you sigh, the frustration tempering in yoru chest.
“i already paid for the tickets. i saved up for a month trying to buy a flight back.”
“darling, i know. i’m really sorry, but you know how it is. she just gets so stressed out that we just wanted to go out there and make her holiday nice.”
“and what about my holiday? you don’t want me to have a nice christmas with my family?”
you can feel it burning in your cheeks – that embarrassing feeling that’s been simmering in your chest since you were kid. a mix of an insurmountable amount of envy and dejection, from trying to vie for attention from the second that you realized you never had it.
“don’t try to make me feel guilty.” she scolds
“i’m not trying to make you feel guilty! i just wished you would have thought about me too.”
you hear an irritated sigh on the end of the line, which is your first sign that you had made a mistake. because if there was one thing you knew how to do, it was push your mom’s buttons.
you wonder if it’s because she sees herself in you – and that utter hatred that she has for herself was now placed on you instead.
“do you always have to be so curt with me?”
“i’m not being curt, i just…”
“maybe when i die, you’ll think back and wished that you had appreciated me more. been more understanding that i’m not just your mother, i am someone’s friend too. that i have my own life. and that at the very least, my friends like to call me here and there. acknowledge me while you do god knows what wherever you are.”
“okay, well, i –”
“enjoy your christmas. we’ll see you in the spring.” she states.
there’s a static on the other end of the line and you drop your phone, staring at the dark screen in your hands for the few seconds that follow. and you must have been standing there for too long, because a few minutes later quiet footsteps accompany you in the dimly lit hallway, suguru’s head obscuring the light from the bulb.
“hi peach.”
“did you hear all of that?”
“no.” he responds.
you look up at him and glare. and he reaches forward, hands soft on your cheek wiping away the wetness that you hadn’t noticed. you’re not sure when you started crying.
he leans forward and presses a kiss to your cheek.
“you’re a liar. if you’re one thing, it’s nosy.” you respond.
he smiles.
“maybe when it comes to you. what happened, pretty girl?”
you shake your head, his grabby hands coming around your waist as he presses you closer to his chest. you can hear his heart thumping against your ear, the metal of his necklace cold on your cheek, as you heave a sigh.
“nothing.”
“oh, come on, peach.”
you look up at him, expectant and full brown eyes waiting for an answer, as you give in.
“i just thought i would be going home next week for break. but i think i’m just going to stay here.”
“because your parents are going to…”
“see their friends in new york.”
suguru frowns. you can’t tell if it’s pity in his eyes.
“it’s not a big deal. i just was expecting to go home, that’s all. and it’s not that big of a deal that i’m going to stay here, the weather is nice and it’s probably frigid cold there.”
suguru pauses.
“you’re going to be here alone?”
“yeah. my roommate is from the east coast.”
“you should come home with me, for break.”
you look up at him, eyes wide.
“what?”
“s’not that far from here, i usually just make the drive. there’s a nice coffee shop on the way that i always stop at for some energy. and my mom is really nice.”
you shake your head, almost too violently.
“i can’t just go home with you. i wouldn’t want to impose.”
suguru pulls back, his fingers fast on the screen, as he murmurs under his breath, his voice uncharacteristically soft.
“you’re not an imposition to me, peach. i can’t leave my baby here alone.”
“sure. but to your parents, and…and staying rent free in your house.”
suguru grins, handing over the phone to you, as you read the texts on the screen.
[suguru]: can my friend come home with me for break? her name is y/n.
[mom]: YES!!!!!
[mom]: A GIRL!
[suguru]: not like that
[suguru]: but she’s sweet
[mom]: I’M GETTING EVERYTHING READY
you look down at the phone, noting the sweet heart emoji that he has near her contact name, the contact photo a picture of the two of them when he was considerably younger, hugging cheek to cheek.
“and i stay rent free in your apartment all the time.”
“suguru, this is…weird. i can’t just come home with you, that’s…that’s too much.”
he shakes his head.
“it’s casual. we’re just friends, you’re just coming home with me for break so you won’t be here alone.”
right. you’d almost be inclined to believe him – if it wasn’t for the fact that the time you spent around him, the more curious you got.
the more that feeling festered in you, wanting to know anything and everything about him, wanting to crawl deep into his skin and memorize everything and make sense of why he was the way he was.
“you promise?”
“for sure.”
--
“you’re a loser.”
mei mei is never one to mince her words. and you’re grateful for it – because it’s something that you need when you return from your two weeks stay in long beach with suguru over the break.
because despite the words that he told you, the ones that you didn’t really believe anyway, you come back in a worse state than you expected.
you think you love him.
because in the days of uninterrupted time that you spend together, you let your mind wander too far. because in the quiet moments that the two of you had – knee deep in the passenger seat outside the stupid coffee shop you stopped at, giggling in the bathroom when you went to dinner, and tangled in the bed sheets with him every night – you let yourself taste too much.
let your mind run a little too wild. thinking about meeting his friends at the pier he showed you, of living together in an apartment in the following year.
and the two of you teeter a dangerous line. putting each other as emergency contacts, swapping your wardrobe in between your flats, and showering together every morning – his soft hands massaging the shampoo into the roots of your hair.
“don’t be mean.” you state.
“i’m not being mean, i’m just saying that…”
mei mei sighs, cheeks in her hand, with an almost irritating look in her eyes – wholeheartedly judgemental. she just didn’t get it.
“look, he’s friends with todo. that guy i know from the finance club? and i asked around about him, apparently he loves to brag about how he gets girls off all the time. now either he’s talking about you – clearly not the way you talk about him – or he’s talking to someone else.”
you sigh. because you can’t even put it past him. because in the months you had known him, he was impossible to understand. a futile effort to read. impossible to touch.
“look, i’ll just ask him later.”
and when he comes around your apartment, well after mei mei has left, he brings a slice of peach cobbler that his coworker insisted that he take home with him.
“peach cobbler for my peach!”
you wince.
“that was corny. even for you.”
“i saw an opportunity and i took it.” suguru responds, shrugging as he loops his arms around your waist, chin resting against the top of your head as he eyes the pot of boiling ramen on your stove.
and you bite the bullet as fast as you can.
“do you see other girls?” you ask.
“huh?”
you swallow hard, dry patch in your throat, as you feel the sweat tickling the top of your forehead. it’s from the heat of the stove.
“do you see other girls? or guys?”
“no. do you?”
you shake your head. and you’re unsure how to word the next question – because there was something humiliating, too bare about having to admit that you want more to him – when things were so sweet as they were.
perhaps you should have known better. coffee was always bitter at the end.
“why do you ask?”
you shrug.
“dunno. was just thinking about us. and how we spent break together and all that.”
suguru presses a kiss to your hairline.
“yeah? did you have fun?”
you hum in response.
“yeah. i really liked the city. and your mom and your sister. it was really sweet of you to take me.”
you pause, wincing as you decide to be as blunt as possible.
“and i like you.”
he laughs.
“well, i like you too.”
“no, no, i like you. well, i more than like you, but i…i can’t say those words.”
there’s a silence. and his arms feel like loose limp noodles around you. and you realize now, that you made the wrong choice. you turn around, only to find hollow brown eyes staring at you, the makings of a frown on his face.
“suguru?”
he winces.
“i can’t.” he whispers.
“why not?”
and you’re not sure what it is, but it throws him into a panic. with his facial features scrunched up, eyes hollow, and nervous hands running through his hair.
“i just can’t.”
you cross your hands over your chest, the bitter contempt of rejection blooming in your chest, as you look down, picking at the scab on the inside of your palms as you ask again.
“i said i didn’t want any attachments.” he adds.
“i know. but can you blame me for being confused? you took me home to see your family.”
“as a friend.”
“you didn’t act like my friend while we were there.”
suguru groans.
“and that’s my fault, i know that but –”
that one stings. admitting that he regrets it.
“okay, well. that’s alright. maybe you should leave now, then.” you state.
“wait peach, no. i don’t want to leave, i just..”
you scoff.
“you don’t want to leave?”
“no?”
it comes out meek, almost timid when he utters it. a question. like he can’t even admit it fully – that he wants to stay. and it fills you with anger, searing red hot anger on the heels of being cast aside so nonchalantly, that it comes to a head then and there.
“do you really think so little of me?”
“what?
“i’m not good enough to be your girlfriend. but whatever else you want, that’s fine. i…i thought you thought of me better than some girl you just fuck around with.”
suguru sighs.
“you’re not some girl i just fuck around with.”
“am i not, though?”
suguru shuts his eyes, the look on his face is so pained – so miserable – that it irritates you.
“you’ve made it abundantly clear. that you like me a decent amount, but not enough to care about whether or not you’ll lose me.”
you bite down so hard on your lip that the taste of metallic blood fills your mouth, coupled with warm tears in your eyes.
“and for that, you can go to hell.”
--
“what happened to you, peach?”
you scoff, curling your nose at the old nickname, as he yanks the closest stool – his legs still too long to even be comfortable on the thing as he leans forward, noting the dried blood on your forehead.
“a car accident. you can leave now.”
suguru frowns, almost resembling a kicked dog, as he shakes his head. there’s something softer about his expressions now – something you’re sure is a byproduct of the time you spent apart or the fact that you have a broken rib – and you choose to ignore it for the time being.
“i can’t just leave.” he whispers.
“and why not?”
suguru shakes his head.
“you have a broken rib. and a deep cut on your forehead. forgive me if i’m concerned about you.”
“i can’t. knowing you, you’ll casually linger around here for a few days, and when you figure it’s appropriate to leave, you’ll be gone with the wind.”
the two of you sit there in silence, the harshness of the words hanging in the air between the two of you.
and yet again, suguru geto leaves you with a never ending pit of curiosity. about what he was doing here, to ask how he is – to make it a note to him that his cheeks look fuller, that his eyes aren’t rimmed red anymore, and that he looks good.
that you like the new hairstyle. that it killed you when he wasn’t around anymore. that you still want him to go to hell.
suguru twists the silver ring on his pointer finger a few times – a fourth, a fifth, and a sixth – before you break the silence, your curiosity getting the best of you another time.
“why are you here?”
“they called me. i’m your emergency contact still.”
“no, i gathered that. why are you here?”
suguru pauses, swallowing hard before responding.
“if orpheus hears something that deceives him – like the sound of eurydice tripping over a rock – he doesn’t think. he looks back.” suguru states.
you scoff. vague again.
“right.”
“no, really. i got the call. and i didn’t think and just showed up. i just…just had to see you.” suguru states.
he pauses.
“it’s kind of romantic, don’t you think? that he loved her so much that he had to look back, like it was almost an instinct.”
you turn to glare at him, at the audacity of him repeating your own stupid words back to you.
“is it? because his carelessness left her in hell with hades.”
suguru scoffs.
“i never did tell you the end of the story, did i?”
you roll your eyes.
“orpheus becomes so distraught that he uses his lyre to charm death – just so that he can return to the underworld to be with her. and people debate how it happens, him being ripped apart by irate women or getting killed by the menades, but it does happen. he dies and goes to the underworld. and in some versions, people think that he reunites with her in the underworld. and she forgives him.”
“and why would she do that?” you ask.
“because he tried his best to do right by her. he was asked to do one thing – to stay away. and that’s what he did, because…because i know you’re right. because you do deserve better, i do think the world of you and think you deserve to be with someone who wants to be with you, the way that you want.”
suguru pauses.
“it’s not my fault that i can’t help but look back. i can’t do anything about the fact that i love you.”
you swallow hard, an embarrassing amount of regret – mixed in with that deep longing that he left in your chest – searing through you.
“in the casual way, right?” you respond, sarcastically.
he groans.
“it’s not casual at all. it wasn’t casual when i leaned forward to taste the sweetness of the peach on your lips – especially when i fucking hate peaches. and it wasn’t casual when i took you home with me, it was…i just couldn’t stand the thought of you being alone. and it’s not fucking casual that i drove three hours when i was supposed to be home this weekend just because i the thought of you sitting in this room alone, in pain, was driving me crazy.”
you wince, turning to look at him. and it seems that in the mere acknowledgement of his presence by locking his eyes, it seems to fill him with something – something that puts the whisper of a smile on his face.
“what?”
“i turned around for you. i didn’t know i would, but now that i have, i…i realize that i probably always would have.”
“okay?” you whisper.
“are you going to forgive me for it? not doing it earlier, for…for not getting it right the first time?” he asks.
you pause, mulling the thought over. and the silence, he takes it as an invitation to plead his case.
“i’ll beg. i’ll get on my hands and knees if that’ll do something to make it better.”
you turn to look at him.
“you…you’re special. i haven’t forgotten about you and…and i know we had something. just let me fix it? i’ll get you a hundred gifts, i’ll tell you a hundred times and i’ll - oh!’
he reaches into his bag, shoving his arms into the depths of the pockets, before yanking out a little napkin and reaching forward, opening your hand and placing it in your palm.
“a tissue?”
“open it.”
and you oblige, unfolding the tissue to see four little gummy peach rings in the napkin, before turning back to him.
“peach rings?”
“for my peach! i eat them all the time now, even though i fucking hate peaches. i only had a few left so i grabbed what i had left when i ran out. and i ate some on the way on accident because i was nervous, worried about you and all..”
you look down, the sugary crystals on the candy almost sparking in the light, as you look back at him. and he's wholeheartedly different - not the cool, cold guy you left behind, but a weird mess of awkwardness and jitters, and maybe even the tiniest hint of desperation.
he seems wholeheartedly more touchable this way.
“you make no sense.” you state.
suguru frowns.
“i know. but i’m trying.” he responds.
and you sigh, wiping your hands at your side, before eating one of the candies. bitter at first, but sweet at the end.
“suppose that’s my problem then. i’ll have to figure you out.” you respond.
suguru’s face splits into a smile, his motions so eager as he leans over the railing of the bed, the angle entirely off as he leans forward to kiss you. and it’s entirely different from every other time you’ve kissed him – full and whole, a warm and tender promise behind it.
“you’re wrong, you know?” you whisper.
“about what?” he murmurs.
“the peaches. they taste good.”
he laughs.
“is that right?” he whispers, his thumb tracing the outline of your lips, as he wavers his eyes up again, to the cut on your forehead.
he leans forward, pressing a kiss to the bandages, before pulling back, lips lingering over yours.
“i think i need one more to decide.”

spencer first noticed it when your hand brushed past his on the jet. you were reaching for something and had to lean over him, so he began to grab the same thing to get it for you.
your hands touched briefly, and he noted how cold they were. maybe you had poor circulation? “your hands are so cold,” he had stated.
you shrugged in response. “i mean, i guess. i’m just kind of used to it.” to some extent, you were. you regularly carried hand warmers to stuff inside jacket pockets, carried gloves occasionally, and tried to increase your blood flow whenever you could.
after that, he noticed just how cold your hands often were. on the jet he brushed it off due to the altitude or maybe even just the air conditioning, but he couldn’t deny how much you rubbed your hands together or discreetly opened warming packets.
one time on a particularly chilly case in michigan, he saw you digging around in your bag. “what are you looking for?” he asked.
you looked up briefly just to continue to rifle through your things. “oh, it’s nothing.” the brisk air was beginning to become to much to bear, you needed your hand warmers. “i just need to find my hand warmers.”
after a few minutes you gave up and began to rub your hands together to generate some warmth. spencer watched for a moment, and contemplated if he should say anything else. he then spoke before even realizing that he had said anything. “do you just want to hold my hand?”
what first struck you was how odd this was, coming from spencer specifically. you had known about his germ issue, obviously. everyone did. “it’s actually safer to kiss,” he would always say. but, if he was offering, who were you to turn him down? you were no fool.
his eyes widened after he realized the sentiment of what this proposition could mean, and quickly followed it up with, “only if you want to, of course. just because your hands are cold all the time.”
and so, you reached for his hand and gently held it. he then took your enclasped hands and placed them in the pocket on his jacket. your hands weren’t the only thing that were warm that night. you weren’t sure if he could see the red heat that had risen to your cheeks.
from that moment on, spencer began holding your hand or putting your hand in his pockets when he could tell they were getting cold. surely other people on the team were noticing, but it didn’t really occur to you to mind. eventually your wallet was appreciative of the money you were saving on purchasing hand warmers in bulk.
presently you and spencer were walking back to your apartment after a case. you both were quite tired, and you didn’t want him taking public transportation this late at night. it hadn’t snowed yet, but it was still incredibly cold.
spencer noticed the telltale signs that your hands were getting uncomfortably cold, and so he reached for the hand that was closest to him and laced his fingers with yours. “sorry i’m such a frigid bitch,” you joked.
your statement stopped him in his tracks, literally. what could you even mean by that? you weren’t a bitch. frigid, maybe. but definitely not a bitch.
his sudden stop startled you a little. “what do you mean? you’re not a bitch.” his brow was knit together, and his lips curled downward ever so slightly.
oh, he hadn’t quite understood what you had intended to imply. “that’s not what i meant,” you said, laughing lightly. “i just meant that i’m really fucking cold, like all the time. thank you for sharing your body heat, i guess.”
due to his expression, it had clearly dawned on him what you had meant. “i don’t mind at all.” he smiled and squeezed your hand a little tighter. “you can hold my hand whenever you want to.”
you continued walking to your apartment. the lights from the surrounding buildings reflected dimly off the road, creating a soft ambiance. cars drove past every now and then, and sometimes you’d move to the side of the sidewalk for people passing by.
“what if i always want to?” you asked under your breath. he turned to look at you, a quizzical look sitting upon his face.
“what do you mean?”
you paused. “what if i want to hold your hand, even when i’m not cold?” you looked into his eyes, and then something shifted. spencer opened and closed his mouth a few times. you flicked your eyes away and looked ant the ground. maybe you shouldn’t have said anything.
spencer moved his head in an attempt to meet your gaze, but was unsuccessful. “hey,” he prodded, trying to get your attention. his voice was softened; the sound of it vibrating softly in the air between the two of you.
“hey,” he called out again. “do you mean that?” he questioned. the tone of his voice was nothing accusatory; it was curious, maybe even a little shocked.
you gulped down any embarrassment that you could. okay, you were doing this. “yes,” you mumbled. “i really enjoy holding your hand even when my hands aren’t cold.”
at first, his eyebrows raised a bit, but then his expression softened and grew more rapt. this was not what you were expecting. what you had been expecting was an awkward exchange of, “i’m sorry, i don’t like you that way,” or perhaps even a declaration of his purely platonic feelings for you.
his silence was beginning to stress you out. you looked for any recognition on his face of what his next words would be. finally, he spoke. “really? because i do too,” he whispered.
upon his lips sat a small smile that did little to hide his glee. thank god, he wasn’t upset or uncomfortable. “what if i held your hand whenever i wanted to? not just when my hands get cold?” you pondered.
his smile widened. he nodded passionately before speaking. “yes!” he exclaimed, a little louder than intended. he quietened his voice again, “yes. you absolutely can. i want you too. i like holding your hand.”
the remaining tension in your jaw and shoulders finally dissipated. you turned your body to face him completely, and you were met with the backlit halo of light from the street lamps that illuminated him in an almost angelic way. his curls looked softer than ever, and the creases around his eyes made you want to melt.
your free hand reached forward in search of his other hand, and you grasped it tightly. finally you broke the silence. “can i kiss you, spence?”
his eyes bound shut tightly and he smiled even wider, if possible. his eyes opened and looked right into yours. “please. please kiss me,” he declared.
your hands still intertwined, you leaned forward and pressed your lips against his. you tilted your head to the side to get even closer to him. one of his hand let go of your own and cradled your jaw gently.
his breath tickled against your cheek, and despite his typical bashful nature, you felt him smile into the kiss. when you pulled away, a string of salvia connected the two of you. in another situation you might’ve found it gross, but presently you didn’t mind.
you took your free hand and brushed a piece of hair from his face. nothing in this moment mattered but you and him, and you with him.
