December 2023: Christmas

We started the day with mimosas garnished with pomegranate seeds:

Christmas dinner. All the vegetables are from our garden. We used this recipe for the honeynut squash:

A storm overnight dropped temps and the garden is loving it! A Pipsqueak, a Renegade (on that vine that snapped) and a Honeynut Squash all opened this morning. Even saw my first (male) cucumber bloom.

I, uh. I have somehow lost a squash??

Tonight I made dinner out of roasted honeynut squash, Brussel sprouts, and mushrooms. Tomorrow, I'm going to work myself to death in the kitchen making traditional Thanksgiving dishes, and I'll be lucky if it's 1/3rd as delicious.

August 2023: The Last Weekend

One day's harvest of okra from Plot 420:

Honeynut squash. We haven't tasted them yet but they are supposed to be similar to butternut squash. I do find the smaller size appealing:

So you're telling me this puny Honeynut Squash half the size of the other varieties is the first one putting out tendrils. You really never know.

my favorite bakery coworker came over for dinner last night and lavender made a fucking insane feast... home grown honeynut squash roasted with brown butter and sage and blended into reduced homemade chicken stock with garlic onion habanero chili oil and cream poured over fresh pasta with basil and ricotta & smashed gin and sage chicken thighs with crispy skin & my coworker brought a really lovely fennel arugula lemon green apple salad it was incredible and we did not take any photos but i am very delicious
