Hm, he probably wasn't Tritoma. You'd have to play with the timelines quite a bit to make it work since Tritoma is said to have died 13 years ago, when Crocodile was already well established as the Hero of Alabasta and pictures of his face were circulating. I'm not saying it's impossible because this is One Piece we're talking about. But it's not likely. Which of course doesn't stop me from playing around with Kuja Crocodile ideas ;3 I do with canon what I want! And of course Crocodile could still have been a Kuja, even related to Tritoma but it doesn't seem necessary. Him having been a Kuja seems fun enough *lol*

And I think any potential visual similarities between the two are predominantly owed to how Oda tends to draw pretty women? And considering how Oda pulled his female Law design into canon (even if just for a bit) we could expect a pre Iva Crocodile to have looked like this, though Croc in her 20s might have had looked a liiiiiiittle bit different. If Oda had wanted to hint as them being the same person, he might have borrowed from Croc's design a bit more heavily.

i already said it but it does really frustrate me how little agency Taash has and the more i think about it the more insidious it gets. again their entire story revolves around Rook making choices for them, and they're also consistently talked down to by other characters, even if those characters are depicted as being friendly or nice. Isabela treats them like a child despite Taash being a very accomplished dragon hunter with the lords (which we see, repeatedly, when fighting the blighted dragons! Taash is not a child), and of course there's their mother (at least this is intentional) and both her and Isabela go behind Taash's back to throw them in with Rook, without asking for their input. Isabela just assumes without even trying to discuss it with Taash separate from their mother, despite seemingly being aware of the two's strained relationship... and from there Isabela continues to make unnecessary comments to Taash whenever you visit the hall of valor with them.

even Flynn, the nonbinary grey warden you meet in the wetlands, condescends to them about the Qun when discussing their gender, and Taash isn't allowed to disagree with them (apparently they give Flynn a Look but ultimately don't press the issue) and Flynn is depicted as being helpful in this discussion. Rook lectures them about gender and their own culture; their entire narrative revolves around Other People telling them what to do and how to feel-- it's obviously meant to be Bad when Taash's mother does it, because she (the Qun) is oppressive, but otherwise the game seems to be fine when it's Rook or literally anyone else doing it, because we're the enlightened Good Guys, and Taash is just helpless and confused and so oppressed. of course, i don't think it's bad for Rook to discuss these things with Taash or give them gentle suggestions, and i don't even hate the potential gender discussion you can have with a trans Rook; and for the record, their mother does treat them poorly. but we can't ignore the way Taash's repeated infantilization culminates in the player being the one to choose their culture for them in the end, because..?

well, the game clearly doesn't think Taash is capable of doing it themselves. at one point Taash links the ropes they wear for the Qun to the ones the antaam used to tie down a dragon and "blight" them. even if i'm feeling gracious and say that Weekes really meant that womanhood & their mother's expectations are restricting, they actively chose to use the ropes of the Qun to make this comparison, and so are also implying here that their mother teaching them the Qun has tied them down and "blighted" them-- that the Qun has "infected" their thinking and is as bad as the blight (this is also implied in the previous discussion with Flynn). this is.... really racist. it takes Rook and their, again, "enlightened" (white) ideas about gender to get through to Taash, nevermind that the Qun has its own ideas around gender that just get shouted down or completely ignored. the racism here results in the narrative contradicting itself, considering one of the first things Taash says is "you don't get to tell me who i am" but... Rook does, in the end, because intentional or not the game is clearly convinced that a person like Taash needs someone from outside of their and their mother's culture (aka free of "blight") to come tell them what's best for them.... 🤔 hm! and while it's true you can choose for them to align with the qunari in the end, that doesn't mitigate all of the heinous and racist writing that leads up to that choice (and that the choice itself is racist. and you have to make it twice!)

of course we can say that Rook makes choices for all of the companions, this is true, but it's obvious that none of the other companions' choices are in the same ballpark, we aren't directly deciding something about their identity, and none of them lack agency to the same extent as Taash. we can even argue that they need Rook to explain gender to them, no one else ever has-- well, sure. the thing with Taash is that some parts of their story, when removed from context, are perfectly fine. i'm not criticizing the way Taash talks or acts or "does gender," all of which are things some people may connect to for various reasons (all of our experiences are different) but unfortunately we cannot discuss any of this without addressing the racism that is so thoroughly baked into every aspect of their character.

i criticized Taash for being "childlike" previously and that really wasn't the right phrasing-- i don't think that Taash themselves is childlike, it has nothing to do with them-- it's the way the narrative treats them, the way other characters talk down to them, how it takes away their autonomy & forces us to go along with it, and ultimately educate them and "save" them, and i think it's worth interrogating why Taash, of all the companions, is specifically depicted this way (it's racism).

"MORE STUDENTS HAVE COME TO CUT CLASSES!"

It looks like a fight's about to break out. Just what kind of discipline is going on at his school?!

Grim panics so Yuu apologizes for him.

SO OUT OF DESPERATION, Crowley turns to Yuu and asks if they remember.

The random Savanaclaw student cuts in and says he's noisy as hell. He's the Headmage, but it's not that they need to listen to him yeah?

Savanaclaw Student: "What a loser. 'Kay, let's just ignore him!"

He sighs and comments that these kids are underestimating him one too many times. It won't do that children who can't even gauge their own abilities are looking down on an educator like him.

🤔 You guys sometimes really make me think about things I don't often have to think about LOL. I'm just gonna do the gang this time so off the top of my head:

Izm and .D are often eating sushi in my drawings and since I'm pretty sure Izm is mainly the one buying, sushi is his fave. He'll eat any type but he prefers the raw fish ones.

Whilst .D also likes sushi, it's not his fave dish. His fave dish is pasta in a red sauce (like Sugo or Arrabiata) for some reason. Nostalgia maybe?

Zeke is a meat and potatoes kind of guy, so, a nice juicy sirloin with mushroom sauce and a side of roast potatoes and veggies. (BP!Zeke is similar but he really likes pork/bacon particularly, so a pork roast for him probably).

Wei Ren's comfort foods are chicken congee, and seafood steamboat/hot pot.

Marcus' fave is his mom's chicken casserole.

Hm, that's a good question! I think, for doodling purposes, my fave is Rire mainly because Rire always looks more or less completed in black and white. My other two faves are .D and Izm - .D is a good exercise in subtle expressions whereas Izm is the complete opposite (esp with BP!Izm with that mouth).

The rest of society is pretty standard so yes there are charlatans in the world of BP lol. HOWEVER, no one would pretend to be a BP for three distinct reasons:

You need to be sanctioned to be a BP (ie they have abilities that normal people do not, like being able to perform exorcisms.)

There is no profit to be had as BPs generally don't get paid (all their living expenses are generally covered by their religion's HQ).

It's dangerous work. You'd have better luck being a bank robber.

In what capacity lol if there's something I've learned from real life it's never agree or disagree to anything without knowing specifics. Eg if you would like to use my art as a PFP on tumblr then you can if you credit it, but if you want to use my art as a face claim for your own charac then i would have to say no, etc.

This is an AU, if that wasn't obvious. In said AU, he still sang Hold Him Down, but, instead of HIM being shot in the throat by Ody, Eurymachus takes the shot for him. Somehow, Antinous managed to get away from the palace, and took a ship out into the sea. (He literally just ran off.)

He later returns (which will be shown within an open starter. With a specific time that he's been gone for.)

You may have already mentioned this somewhere, but I was thinking about that one scene where Felix mentions marriage and I was wondering if poly marriage is a thing in the RON universe. Like, could they all get married to MC if they wanted? Would it be an all-or-nothing thing? Or does a pack bond kinda supersede all that?

I know some ABO universes either don’t have marriage, or have it as something that’s like… a nice gesture but not necessarily a dominant social practice.

Also, wayyyy later in their relationship are there members who would be more likely to jokingly-but-not-really-jokingly call her “wifey” regardless of whether they’re married on paper?

Hi hi! 💛 Poly marriage is a thing! So yes, they could all marry her if they wanted, or just some of them could, and they could do it as one big group wedding at once or smaller ones (unit weddings…) or classic 1v1 mode 😊

I do think in RONverse marriage is a little less important if you’re part of a pack? If you aren’t in a pack and aren’t ever planning on being in a pack (say, Soohyun and Yuri), marrying your partner does all the same useful things it does in our real world: a legal tie, various financial affects, access to spousal rights… But if you’re in a pack, you can get those things anyway, to varying degrees. I mean, I imagine you and your packmate would still have to choose to register for various things or to combine finances or whatever, and I don’t know exactly how pack legal registration as a whole goes to be honest 🤔 But there are opportunities for various perks, definitely! I could see some mates within packs or various romantic combos of pack members choosing not to pursue legal marriage because there isn’t much of a point.

“Wifey” hahahaha— If we’re ignoring language boundaries like I usually do in fic, I think if they WERE actually married, most of them would use it at least some of the time 😆 If I had to narrow it down, I think I’d exclude Seungmin and I.N? I.N seems like the kind of guy to call his girl noona literally forever, and I usually don’t write Seungmin using pet names unless he’s horny (but now I’m thinking about horny use of ‘wife’… 🤔😵‍💫 hm hmm...). I COULD see them both saying ‘my wife’ in a bit of a weightier, more sincere, lowkey possessive way! But that’s probably true of all of them to be honest 💛

If they were together but not married, I think I'd exclude the ones where the longing and sincerity overtakes commitment to the bit — which might... just be Chan... 😆 I could also see Hyunjin and Felix saying it in a joking way and then later on getting kind of sad that they're not actually married hahahaha. Listening to sad love songs alone in their rooms like they don't literally have a girlfriend who loves them like down the hall 💔

The whole time I've been typing to this point I've been trying to think if there's a kr equivalent for wifey so I can chat about that too, but if there is then I'm blanking 🤔 You could say yeobo in a joking way maybe, but it's kind of a stiff word isn't it... how hard(?) would you say it is to translate? Ive been kinda curious about that, like does anything get lost in translation/ just not make that much sense without knowing the og language? or anything like that? 🤔

Hm, maybe 7 or 8 on a scale of 10? Though it can easily go higher at times, haha. (Always when Sung Hyunjae is in a scene because his name is a misspelling and it pisses me off.* This is a joke. Only half, though.) Basic word-by-word dictionary lookup is simple, which is why machine translators can do it well enough. But then you have to string all of it together in a sentence where you:

figure out and find a way to convey any difference in connotation between this specific chosen word and other words that mean the same thing (think the connotations of "regal" VS "royal" in English), and

do the same as above, but on a sentence-wide level translating the nuance of a particular grammar/sentence structure (thousand and one sentence endings in Korean, I swear -_-), and

make sure distinct character voices are retained or translated from the original Korean (think Song Taewon's stiff formality VS Han Yoojin's more casual speech VS Sung Hyunjae's middle-aged rich guy-type speech), and

make sure this sentence flows with the overall paragraph/chapter.

All those priorities have to be juggled throughout the chapter and add up to make it a fairly hard task. It definitely gets easier with practice once you're more familiar with the language (especially the nuance/connotation stuff), though, and I did get lucky in that my native language shares some aspects with Korean so the grammar is easier to intuitively grasp. Of course, I'm still learning, so I do have times I need to call in more experienced speakers for help.

(I definitely wouldn't say I'm good with the language period. Recently I've tentatively picked up a new novel—people following my personal blog will know which one—and it turns out I'm familiar with the way Geunseo talks and familiar with the vocabulary typical to dungeon fantasy novels, but kind of. Majorly hopeless when it comes to other stuff. The phrasing is juuust off enough that I keep getting tripped up and taking thrice as long to understand what's being said.)

There's definitely stuff that wouldn't make sense in English—certain idioms, cultural stuff, and all that, but that's why I try to localize wherever possible and add footnotes with relevant info/links if not. And there is stuff that gets lost in translation—you can look at the chapter titles from 302–307 for an example of that, where the joke is much more immediately obvious in Korean but had to be translated differently as chapter title VS in-chapter text messages and lost the clear parallel. I also remember being grumpy back during the virtual reality dungeon arc because Yoohyun would use 네놈 (ne-nom but typically pronounced ni-nom, a derogatory way to say "you", LMAO) towards Sigma and there was no concise way to get that across in English except having him be aggressive and direct. Especially since he isn't the type to swear by word of god, so I couldn't have him addressing him with "asshole" or "jerk" to convey it.

TL;DR: Fairly hard to translate, but gets easier with time, and there is stuff that's lost or difficult to understand, but I do what I can to make it understandable in English!

* Sung Hyunjae uses "ae" at the end, but that implies it's 성현재, which is wrong—the correct spelling is 성현제, which should be "Sung Hyunje". (If you wanted to go the full Revised Romanization route, it'd be Seong Hyeonje, but I've weathered my share of name changes and that's a step too far even for me.) I've been meaning to make a poll about changing it like with the Lauchitas spelling, but I keep forgetting.

That's a good question. If we assume that Xebec really just wanted to be king of the world then he might not be particularly fussed about Doffy's whole deal. He might not like the fact that he's a (former) Celestial Dragon and therefore has got an annoying superiority complex. But if he has a superiority complex that he can back up with strength then he might be fine with it, as long as he doesn't get in Rocks' way.

(I have watched some Rocks theories on youtube yesterday which reminded me to doubt a lot of what we hear about Rocks, at least everything that actually is being told to us by the Marine. We know that people who were present on God Valley are reluctant to talk about what actually happened, which might hint towards the fact that it wasn't at all like we're being told.)

Doffy on the other hand... I don't know if he'd know who Rocks was since Rocks' existence had been erased. I assume however that if Rocks had been notorious in certain areas of the sea then people would still have whispered about it in the years after God Valley, maybe when he was in the North Blue. Or he heard about him from Kaido? Hm. Doffy might find it intriguing that one of the great horrors of the past is now back. It will spice things up. Maybe he'd try to get involved in whatever Rocks is up to (if he's not fed up being at the potential mercy of a much stronger person, like Kaido.)

(What IS Rocks up to? *lol* I'm sure he's not just going to do nothing but be a doting grandpa at the ripe old age of... I don't know. 40 or whatever age he was when he "died". I think if he had the spell ready to escape into the future, he must have had plans. That if he can't do whatever he wanted to do, then he'd try again some years down the line - I don't think he could control how far he jumped, maybe to a period where his child is the same age as him? Maybe it's a set amount of years? 20, 25 or something like that?)

i think it's kinda funny that you don't like hickory since he's a fan favorite but you're valid in your dislike, its just a shame that DW didn't do much to redeem him like the other hunters, other than make him feel remorseful and ashamed of betraying Broppy and providing gumdrops to Poppy in the final confrontation, they could've done more. Regardless of feeling bad, he did nothing to stop it really. If you had the chance to possibly fight back against the oppressor but you actively aided in her plans, and your only excuse was "Well I didn't want to lose what is important to me," you're really just saying "fuck everyone else losing their freedom ig cuz I don't want to lose mine."
