Morag isn't going to become a vampire, but that doesn't mean she's going to die. she just thinks it's stupid for her to pick something that has such obvious weaknesses like vampirism, especially when Nat already is a vampire. it only makes sense to diversify this is what im building with katabasis and mellificāre tho its gonna take A While for her to settle on a Solution

hmm... now Valentine... i think she will become Something supernatural, but i don't know if it'll be a vampire. [spoilers idk] she's soulmates with both Mason and Mawlep (who are also linked to each other, they're a little soulmate triad <3) and even aside from the joke of 'Mawlep would pitch an everlasting stinkfit about valentine choosing Mason's version of immortality'- by the time this question comes up at all, Val wouldn't want to side one way or the other. it also raises the question of siren mortality- i don't know if they're actually immortal in the same way as vampires. i am very into the idea of Mawlep just growing bigger and bigger over time like a lobster's indeterminate growth, so one day many centuries in the future she finally is.........taller than Mason (jk she'd be much bigger she's a leviathan by then)

if she talks with anyone about it, it'd be Adam and Nate. i have to pick Just One for her Bestie route (Adam wins) but i do think that she's close friends with both of them. it has the energy of like- in another 300 years she'll be friends with the both of them in the way Adam and Nate are in TWC current era ykno? She's Here To Stay. and given amnesiac Mason is very Shrug (so far) about facing a future without her, she'd turn to those who have memories of their life before, and have seen the turn of centuries after...

i do think Valentine wouldn't commit to anything until she's like. late 40s to 50s? and it wouldn't be a fully planned thing- she'd have known she needs a solution to stay with Mason and Mawlep, that part isn't in question, but the exact Way and Circumstances are probably in the course of some huge lifethreatening mission/disaster/whatever. Val's gonna get a badass moment of waking up from the turning at the nth hour and saving everyone's asses before falling over nearly dead from straining herself so soon after the transformation is complete gfhhgfh

im writing a Pannie fic bit for what i think would actually happen for the pre-carnival-mission team briefing and she just gets more and more disastrous as i develop her ghfhghgf

now i'm thinking about if/why each of my detectives would turn

so far i don't have any that i think wouldn't turn, but i don't have any great reasons for most of those decisions (part of this is my weakness, part of this is because of the characters).

alina turns for sure and she has all of these different reasons that aren't untrue that she gives to different people based on which reasons she thinks they'd best understand, but she has a real reason that she tries to keep close to her chest (and which i will keep close to my chest because it's a part of the turning fic). andy turns too and i'm sure there's something there about vampire abilities/strength if i thought about it a bit longer, but it's definitely something that she doesn't give proper thought and consideration before doing because she (and, i think, farah) just assumes that she will turn and also because being a vampire's probably cool.

syd is the least likely to actually turn, not because she's particularly attached to her mortality or anything but because i think she feels no real impulse to become a vampire or live forever even a bit. but even then i think there's a good chance she does anyway, because (regardless of whatever opinion morgan ends up expressing or not expressing) syd thinks that morgan would handle her dying particularly poorly. there'd be no other reason for her

ok thats enough time staring at campsites i wanna torture pannie

I should remember that I kinda enjoy disappearing into the woods. Not for too long, mind. I tried camping once. Sorta. Okay, so it was sleeping in the car in the middle of a national park because I'd run out of fuel and I wanted to wait until morning so I had light to hike until I had phone signal again and could call for roadside assistance. I'd woken up to the other end of this bird chorus, achey for sleeping in the back seat, hangover weirdly absent. Cool night, rising temperatures- they made the windows fog over, lit up gold by the rising sun. Yeah- that gold, a half-subconscious thought comes, as I glance at my chaperone, and find the dappled light coming through the canopy to gild her short-cropped hair. She's grown it out a little. Not much. I find my fingers in my fringe, trying to remember how short it'd been when I last saw her. Tina had finally cornered me in the changing room with a pair of scissors, levelled it out. Does Ava do her own hair? Looks better than my crap attempt at a DIY undercut. "Is something the matter?" Art galleries must be terrifying, if every statue and work of art can suddenly frown at you. "Uh." I snap my eyes back to the path ahead. Good thing, too, because my shoe catches a root, and I mostly cover the stumble. "Fuck." "Take care." Her words are sharp, verging on scolding- but the hand that I see in the corner of my eye, reaching out, doesn't make contact. "Can't help tripping over my own feet," I grumble. "It's fine. But I am, and the expression that flickers across her face makes my mouth go dry. Then she makes it worse. "I should not." "...wh-" I can't finish it. My heart feels suddenly like a massive stone, swallowed and throwing me off-balance. Ava seems to hear what I can't bring myself to ask, though, and swallows- Then stops. I barely register that she isn't just stopping to have an actual conversation, I take the opportunity to drag my eyes away, back on the path ahead, and- okay well. Marching on and avoiding the fucking weirdness that just happened would be a lot easier without a fuckoff huge tree in the way. "...well fuck." I grimace, looking down its fallen length- it's not actually all that tall, just a thick chungus of a trunk, with a big old hollow in it. Looks like feathers and shit inside. Maybe a nest? RIP to those owls or whatever. We can probably get around it- I barely hear her approaching, but when her arm reaches past me, I skitter back. I watch as her arm goes into that hollow, the other clamps on a gnarled knot- jesus fuck, her fingers are driving into the wood like putty-
