I see the scene of NHS picking up the jin Guangyao hat and wiping it off and maybe... Just maybe actually mourning the loss of another brother.
Because a big part of his plan worked not just because he was the best actor but because Jin Guangyao trusted and cared for him.

@thedarkline ask which disappeared:
Can you do one where Huisang is upset about the loss of his best friends? After the cloud recesses and the training camp he looked forward to seeing Wei Wuxian and JC again and now they don’t even like each other and WW is so cold now. Maybe they deserve a forced vacation?
ao3
Nie Mingjue blinked.
“Oh,” he said. “I see. This is a hallucination, and I should go get checked out by the doctors.”
“Rude, da-ge,” Nie Huaisang sniffed. “Also, you should in fact go get checked out by the doctors some more. I’m still worried about you, you got out of bed too quickly after everything. But also: rude!”
“All right, I’ll concede that maybe I didn’t hallucinate and you in fact said what you said,” Nie Mingjue said. “But…why? I thought you liked Wei Wuxian!”
“I do like him! Of course I like him!”
Nie Mingjue threw his hands into the air. “Then why in the world would you want me to bring him to trial?”
“Because he hasn’t done anything wrong,” Nie Huaisang said. “It’s all a bunch of rumor and innuendo, and now Jiang Cheng had to throw him out of the sect and pretend he doesn’t like him – which is ridiculous – and we can’t all hang out the way we used to and it’s awful, da-ge! Just awful!”
“Pretty awful for Wei Wuxian stuck living on the Burial Mounds and Jiang Cheng having to rebuild his sect all by himself, but yes, by all means, let’s focus on how it affects you personally,” Nie Mingjue said dryly. “No fun hangouts with your friends. How will you survive?”
Nie Huaisang ignored him.
“My point is,” he said loftily, “if he’s found innocent after a trial, then he can come back. It’s perfect!”
“Huaisang…”
“I’m serious.”
Nie Mingjue rubbed his forehead and, reluctantly, started trying to actually think it through. Nie Huaisang could sometimes be distracted by shiny things, like a shopping trip or a new fan, but sometimes he would demonstrate his heritage by getting his teeth into something and stubbornly refusing to let up on it, ever.
It was nice to see him living up to at least some family traditions.
“Wei Wuxian did murder some Jin sect guards,” he pointed out. “He’s unquestionably guilty of that.”
“First off, no one cares about that,” Nie Huaisang rebutted. “And you know it.”
“They should. The fact that the Jin are soulless bastards isn’t exculpatory.”
“No, but also you’re wrong. The fact is, Wei Wuxian didn’t kill them.”
“What?”
“He didn’t! Wen Ning did.”
“…I’m not sure how it’s better that the Ghost General was involved.”
Nie Huaisang waved his fan at him. “Da-ge, don’t be obtuse! Wen Ning wasn’t the Ghost General at that point – he was just a fierce corpse. No consciousness.”
Nie Mingjue waited for his brother to explain his logic. He assumed there was some, anyway.
Nie Huaisang rolled his eyes as if he thought Nie Mingjue was being purposefully slow just to mess with him, which he wasn’t, for once. “Da-ge. Wen Ning was a fierce corpse who had been killed by the Jin sect guards. If he’d resurrected without Wei-xiong’s help, would anyone have said anything?”
“Of course not. A murderer’s victim seeking vengeance for the crime committed against them is a classic case that calls for liberation, provided they haven’t killed anyone else in the process or gotten a taste for killing people such that they would continue doing so afterwards.”
“Exactly.”
“But Wei Wuxian did resurrect him.”
“Naturally he did! He was looking for his friend, he wanted to speak with him; he’s a demonic cultivator. What could be more natural? It’s no different from a Lan playing Inquiry to see if they can find a lost soul. How was Wei Wuxian to know that the Jin sect guards had murdered him, and that Wen Ning would therefore arise as a fierce corpse bent on immediate vengeance?”
Nie Mingjue wanted to laugh, and also possibly to suggest that Nie Huaisang consider picking up a sideline in advocacy, except that he really didn’t actually want a lawyer in the family.
“All right,” he said, suppressing his amusement. “Let’s say I’m following where you’re leading. Then why didn’t Wei Wuxian, demonic cultivator, stop the murder?”
“Da-ge, please,” Nie Huaisang cast him a horrified look. “You’re not suggesting a cultivator can be held responsible for not acting swiftly enough to stop something, are you? Imagine how much of the cultivation world might be at risk if that were the rule!”
“Mm. A good point. Didn’t I hear somewhere that Wei Wuxian had already known that the Jin sect guards had killed Wen Ning…?”
“Surely Wei-xiong would never make such an assumption about the good, upstanding people that a good, upstanding sect like Lanling Jin took on as their own. It must have been a misunderstanding. You know how young heroes are, all bluster and hot air. Are we kicking people out of sects just for that?”
Nie Mingjue’s shoulders were shaking with the effort to keep his laughter inside.
“There, you see! Perfectly logical,” Nie Huaisang concluded, throwing his sleeves up with a flourish. “Obviously the entire sequence of events that led to Jiang Cheng kicking Wei Wuxian out is simply a misunderstanding. Easily resolved!”
“Right. And the Wen sect? They were supposed to be in Jin sect custody.”
“Uh, da-ge, the Jin sect appointed guards that killed some of them, a fact we know for sure because we’ve gotten it based on the testimony of the dead – again, like Inquiry. Are you saying we can’t rely on things like Inquiry? What will the Lan sect say if they hear you suggest such a thing?”
“I’m suggesting that we still need to do something with the Wen sect.”
“Let Jiang Cheng take them and put them to work.” Nie Huaisang shrugged. “He’s got a whole sect to rebuild, hasn’t he? Anyway, they were the ones who were massacred, they should get first call on what to do with them.”
“Firstly, taking them in means that Jiang Cheng has to feed them –”
“The Jin sect can pay for that, if they’re so enthusiastic about helping deal with them.”
“Secondly, why would Jiang Cheng want the kinsman of the people who killed his parents? I thought you liked him?”
“I’m getting him back Wei Wuxian,” Nie Huaisang said. “He’s going to have to deal with the baggage Wei Wuxian picked up along the way on his own. What do I look like, someone who fixes things for people? Please, da-ge. I’m only human. There’s only so much that I’m capable of.”
Nie Mingjue gave in and started laughing.

Fic Finder
~*~
1. Can anyone find me wangxian fic in which lan zhan captures nie huisang and nie huisang ask Wei wuxian helps to save his brother from Meng Yao in nightless city @wangxianpet
FOUND? The Way It Wasn’t by KouriArashi (T, 72k, WangXian, XiYao, Canon Divergence, Angst with a Happy Ending, Fix-It, (eventually haha), Slow Build, Family Feels, Moral Ambiguity, Eventual Happy Ending)
~*~
2. I need help looking for a fic please.
All I can remember about it is that they were smuggling Wen Ning and possibly Wen Qing across a border somewhere and they put a fake mustache on Wen Ning. People kept complimenting it, even the bad Wens they came across, and some possibly even grew their own Wen Ning-staches after. WWX might've been dressed as a woman? I can't remember for sure.
Thank you!
NOT FOUND! Propagate Understanding by draechaeli (E, 175k, wangxian, not everyone dies, pregnancy kink, consensual non-con, adoption but they’re all birthed by wwx, mo xuanyu lives, temporary character death)
FOUND! Bloom where you are planted 🔒 by luckymoonly (M, 44k wangxian, MM/WQ, Canon Divergence, Fix It, courting, Mpreg, Sunshot Campaign, Fluff, Happy Ending, getting together early, Romance, WWX giving birth in the middle of the war? Most likely than you think!, Yúnmèng Siblings Feels, Smut, Drama, Blood and Violence, Minor Character Death, There Is Only One Bed, No Fall of Lotus Pier, Crossdressing, Shotgun Wedding, Mention of miscarriage (not WWX), wangxian Have a Breeding Kink, Giving Birth, Soft granduncle LQR)

3. I just remembered a fic that would fit in the ghost comp but I forgot it's name 😔 it was a fic about wx haunting a house together and I think taking care of a yuan as they do? I may be thinking of two fics because I think there was one where they were ghosts in the bm and raised yuan too but in this one they died in a fire i believe and the house was alive? Again may be combining fics 😅 thank you!
Yes I think that was the bm fic I was thinking of! But I can't remember much of the house fic besides I think wen ning and wen qing lived in the house with yuan? And I think either xichen or Jiang Cheng appear at one point?
Those are definitely 2 different fics. I remember reading the Burial Mounds one, where they're both ghosts and they raise A-Yuan together, and there was no house fire. Couldn't find it myself, but hopefully that'll help someone else find one or both of these...
FOUND! Gently Haunted by LusBeatha (T, 19k, WangXian, Character Death, Sentient Burial Mounds, Autistic LWJ, Shutdowns, Canon Divergence, Ghosts, Child LSZ, Oblivious WWX, Getting Together, Ghost Marriage, ghost parenting, Grief/Mourning, but only for ghosts that are still present, Golden Core Reveal, Soup, Happy Ending) Wouldn't the one where they are both ghost raising A-Yuan in the Burial mounds be "Gently Haunted" by LusBeatha?
FOUND? The Ghostly Adventures of Wen Yuan by Llamamomo (Not Rated, 13k, WangXian, Ghost WWX, Ghost LWJ, Established Relationship, Married Couple, Supernatural Elements, Modern AU, Murder Mystery, Haunted Houses)

4. For the fic finder, there's a fic I'm pretty sure I first found somewhere on this or the recs blog but I can't for the life of me find again. It deals with WWX accepting a deal where he'll be a prisoner of the Nie clan if the Wen remnants are promised safety. NHS is happy to have his friend around, but it's major depression hours for WWX
I remember him neglecting himself to the point of not brushing his hair for weeks
Thank you 💕
FOUND? Always walked a very thin line by tucuxi (T, 22k, NHS & WWX, JYL & WWX, WangXian)
~*~
5. Hello! I hope you all have been having a great day. I have been plagued by this fic that I just can't remember the title! 😭
It was a post-canon fic where WWX just kept "bothering" LXC in his seclusion and sorta made him help in his research. There was also a scene where WWX got injured and LXC was there to help.
I really appreciate your help and thank you 🥺❤️
Agapé (home is in your arms) by estel_willow (G, 14k, WangXian, fraternal bonding, Mutual Pining, Post-Canon, Wwx is oblivious, lxc is patient, sizhui remains the best son, Wwx uses his words, Or tries to at least, Wwx is an unreliable narrator, Light Angst, well semi-lite angst, canon-typical self dislike from our favourite chaotic disaster bi)
~*~
6. Hey! I was hoping you could help me find a fic. WWX has some "ghost brides" while they're living in burial mounds. There's some description of these ghosts picking and pulling at his clothes, skin, etc.
Hey! I'm #6 on the latest fic finder. I'm afraid that's not the fic I was looking for. It doesn't have f/f wangxian or any gender bending. The fic I'm looking for doesn't have any smut either
Not FOUND your grave, a garden; a barrow, your bed by twinagonies (E, 31k, Female WangXian, Canon Divergence, YLLZ WWX, Ruke 63, Gender or Sex Swap, Genderbending, BDSM, Power Play, Undernegotiated Kink, Restraints, Bondage, Impact Play, Cunnilingus, Vaginal Fingering, Bottom LWJ/Top WWX, Top LWJ/Bottom WWX, Somebody Lives/Not Everyone Dies, Porn With Plot, Golden Core Reveal, Wēn Remnants Live, Mental Health Issues, Plants, WWX's Ghost Girls, Sex Magic, Dual Cultivation, POV LWJ, Switching) a wild guess but this one has the ghost brides doing a lot of touching with wwx. it is a genderbent f/f wangxian so it might not be right
FOUND? 🔒💖 love, in fire and blood by cicer (E, 360k, wangxian, immortal WWX, slow burn, pining, arranged marriages)

7. I am looking for a specific untamed fiction. It is modern day. Wei wuxian is an omega. Supposed to rule all the clans. Gets injured when the Jiang fall. Lan zhan finds him and helps heal him in the back mountains. Later meet when the clans start fighting to mate wuxian. Lan zhan is selected as his guardian. Ruohan tries to force a mating but gets killed by wuxian.
Recesses basically function as assassins.
Qinghe tend to function as military.
Huasang and Lan zhan have similar scents. @manalover

8. Hi! I've been trying to find an a/b/o fic (Lz is an alpha and Wy an omega). What I remember of the plot is that people thought Wy was always hooking up around. Lz had a one night stand with him to try getting over his own feelings for Wy. When Wy went days later to confess to him, Lz said something about Wy hooking up around, and Wy left crying because Lz also believed the rumors about him. Wx, who was Lwj's roommate, said something about fucking Wy, so Lz punched him and went to apologize to Wy.
~*~
9. for the next fic finder: i only know that it was post-cql and wangxian were writing each other letters until wwx broke his leg very badly on a night hunt? i don't remember much else, im sorry!

10. Hi! For the next itmf, I have been looking for a fanfic in my bookmark and my history I couldn't find it 😅
I think it's (abo) I don't remember quite good I think Jiang Cheng ran away for lotus pier with wei ying to the woods later on lan zhan and lan xichen will find them and take them back to lotus pier, madam yu wants to beat wei ying and wei ying take the blame and Jiang Cheng wants to stop madam yu because lan zhan was there to and lan zhan is wei ying mate, and I think lan zhan will step in front of wei ying, and later on Jiang fengmian slap Jiang Cheng(I think it chapter 9 or something 😅) @rayan12sworld

11. Hi! I remember reading a modern au fic on AO3 where Lan Wangji, while preparing for an arranged/political marriage, finds out he was actually married to Wei Wuxian and needs to divorce lest he commit bigamy. Lan Wangji does not remember getting married at all! Less clear on the following details: Wei Wuxian was either missing or dead, and Lan Wangji travels to the courthouse where it happened for more info. He finds on the back of a photo of the occasion that Wei Wuxian had written it was the happiest day of his life.

12. Hi. Firstly I wanna say I absolutely adore this blog and thank you for providing us WangXian fans with amazing fanfiction.
I've been dying to find this one fanfic but I have no idea where it is now and after constant serching I decided to give it ago.
From what I remember: Lan Wangji is taken prisoner and kept in a prison next to Wei WuXian who is some sort of creature (a Phionex to be exact) and Lan Wangji watched helplessly as he is tortured everyday to provide for the Wen Sect using his tears, Phionex cry, etc.
I also remember Wei WuXian helps him escape the prison and Lan Zhan goes back for him but (I think) Wei WuXian already burnt Nightless City and saved the civilians and the Wens but is unconscious.
Please, I hope you have better luck in finding this fic, I've been dying to reread it.
Thank you in advance!!!

13. Hi! I’m looking for a Pregji fic. It’s post-canon and I think wangxian had some sort of post-sex misunderstanding that led wwx to leave. Lwj finds out after that he’s pregnant. I remember the juniors going out and searching for wwx, trying to bring him back. (I checked the Pregji compilation, but it wasn’t there and it’s not under the pregnant Lan zhan tag on AO3) thank you!
FOUND? 17. Hi, I'm hoping that you could help me find a fic. It was after wwx death, lwj keep on dreaming a life where wwx didn't die. Then he found out that the incense burner is the source of his dream. To avoid the pain of losing wwx, lwj start to sleep more and it started to affect his health. Lqr and lxc notice this and try to interfere since lwj condition keep getting worse as he choose to stay asleep. They tried to warn and stop lwj but he ignored them and keep using the incense burner. Later lqr and lxc found out that lwj is dead. Sorry if I'm ranting but that's all I can recall. I can't remember the name and wish to read it again. I would really appreciate it if you could help me find it. Thank you in advance! @mayuchi96

18. Hi lovely Mods! (^▽^) I hope you can help me find these fics I've been looking for!
A) WWX builds (is that the word?) a new core, that isn't a golden core, and I think it's something about yin vs. yang cultivation?
B) WWX grow op with XXC, and I think WWX get a title in the same style as XXC and SL?
C) I just remember a scene where LWJ gives WWX a knife (dagger?) made of like the same material a Bichen, and say something about it protecting him when LWJ can't?
hope you have a great day!

19. A) I have been searching for a specific fic for a while but I cannot find it anywhere. It's an ABO Au with Alphaji and Omegaxian, LWJ is older (35ish) and WWX younger (18ish) and they're being set up on an arranged marraige. WWX is originally hesitant but falls for LWJ and it turns out LWJ travelled from a universe where WWX died and found this one where he lives. There's a scene where LWJ gets jelous of LJY and one where WWX dolls up to look silly but YZY lets him bc he looks cute. Thank you!
B) I remember very little about this fanfic except that LWJ travels back in time to his child body but keeps his power so everyone thinks he's a reincarnated ancestor (or smth)so let him do anything, this includes him destroying the wall of rules. I think WWX also has returned and the story follows both of them. It's the destruciton of the wall that sticks most in mind. Any info would be amazing! Thank you!! @yilingweiclan

20. Oh woops, missed the collection window.
Anyways I've been trying to find this fic for a few weeks now, so no rush.
I'm trying to find a specific fic that is NOT decay by antebunny, because I was reading that one and got reminded of the fic I'm trying to find!! But it has a similar plot hook: the Lans broker a ceasefire with the Yiling Patriarch, under the condition that they purify WWX of resentful energey & WWX agrees, even though he assumes it will kill him. Unlike "decay", i think in this fic the purification ritual was held *not* at Cloud Recesses -- maybe in Koi Tower?? Anyways LWJ is also the one to perform the purification, halfway through he realizes what the ritual is doing to WWX and improvises a change in the music to save his life, while still making it seem like the proper ritual was completed. @businesstiramisu

Caught (Day 5 - Tickletober)
Kanene's notes: I offer this humble meal to my incredible, lovely friend @squeaky-n-blushy who is absolutely delightful and deserves every good thing in the world especially for screaming about those characters with me kjhgfrdfghyujki
Day 4: "Hide and Seek" (tickletober) and "Wine" (MXTXtober)
Warnings: Lots of nibbles, raspberries and soft tickles. Ticklish!Jin Guangyao and Ler!Xichen. Around 2.000 words. Implied 3zun (in the future, maybe).
[~*~]
Jin Guangyao should’ve expected it, really.
It should’ve been clear when Nie Mingjue, with crinkling eyes and a twitch in the corner of his lips looked at him, then Lan Xichen, who was still talking about any and everything while being carried by the shorter in the group, and looked away with an amused huff, suddenly announcing that he just remembered something to help them to “burn the alcohol from their system”. Lan Xichen sang a happy whistling tune and Mingjue’s eyes locked on the way he hugged the smaller one close, fingers burrowing through the fabric on his skin and A-Yao had to freeze his smile on his face so it would not wobble.
He should’ve protested the idea, truly. There was too dark and they had to wake up early, not prolong their lack of proper sleep over a game of Hide and Seek. Jin Guangyao should’ve reminded them about actually good things that would help with their future hungerove, like drinking water and eating something, but then Lan Xichen was nuzzling the back of his neck, saying that he wanted to seek and find all of them and his voice suddenly disappeared leaving no saving words and came back after Mingjue stepped away with a wobbling tune into his marching to hide somewhere in the house.
(Out of their eyes, Mingjue grumbled and snickered and burrowed himself on the guest’s room bed.)
Lan Xichen whispered then a promise in his ear and opened his arms to let him out. In a blink their A-Yao was gone.
He was never introducing them to boiled wine ever again, even if Nie Huisang was right. It had been a nice outgoing, yet a dangerous one. He had been careful, as always, to not drink too much, just enough to take out a few of his inhibitions, never to slow his mind, though.
It had been so hard, however, to keep his guards up, especially when they crowded close, when Mingjue put an arm around him and pulled him to his broad chest, showing how much perfectly he could fit there, all while Lan Xichen giggled on his shoulder, going from talking excitedly to toast their cups together (and make sad noises when A-Yao didn’t take a sip with him) or nip playfully at his neck, ear, shoulder, anywhere he could reach (which also counted with Mingjue’s hand when he got distracted) and hopping away when they threatened to take revenge.
He felt drunk, not on wine or any kind of alcohol, but in the way he could still feel Mingjue’s large hand rubbing at his back, the way he laughed and swayed easily, following Xichen’s each move, the way feelings and small, insignificant and silly secrets like his favorite food, favorite place in the word, favorite playful touch spilled like drops of ink from his mouth and they wiped it away with no fear of getting dirty, the way he reciprocated them honestly, tyding Xichen’s hair when he passed out and took a nap on his lap and adding more and more tiny braids into Mingjue’s hair, brushing fingers on the warm skin of his neck and watching fondly as he huffed and turned but never pushed him away. Suddenly, he looked at the sky and saw the sun setting, only to blink and find the moon high in the sky and their time together to end.
Maybe that is why he didn’t protest at Mingjue’s idea, maybe that is why he felt so dizzily warm after Xichen’s promise that he didn’t even notice the light steps getting too close to the shadow he was hidden, behind a large trunk and thick bushes in the yard, eyes firmly staring the other way.
(Maybe he did, maybe he let them get closer anyway.)
Not even a few seconds later Jin Guangyao felt himself thrown on his back, staring with wide eyes at Xichen, hands pinning his wrists to the ground, body pressed firmly on top of his, forehead ribbon askew, a brillant, excited smile on his face (for him, for him, all for him).
“A-yao, I found you.”
His voice tasted sweet and Jin Guangyao was caught in every sense and every way someone could be. If his life depended on it, if he was taking his final breath, if he was waking up and glancing at his side, he would wish to be watching at those eyes and discovering that he had been caught over and over again, feeling no worry if it was Lan Xichen, not when he was looking at him like this, not when he was pinned under his weight, warm and warm and warm.
“You did, er-ge. What are you going to do?”
“What I promised.”
He knew that already and still, an anticipatory shock ran through him, his breath stopped.
“I won’t escape, Er-ge, you caught me.”A-Yao shook his wrists softly and Lan Xichen’s closed around them more firmly, which did something to his chest. “Let go?”
He did and the Jin held the other’s shoulders in a strong grip, grounding himself, realizing this was real. That he heard Xichen’s promise and let him catch him, that he was doing it. This realization made him want to push him away and closer at the same time. Xichen looked so soft, so earnest, he tilted his head and kissed his wrist with care.
(Everywhere he looked, every quirk, every glance, every move he analyzed brought the same result: care, care, care).
A-Yao couldn’t hold it anymore, especially as tiny sparks of ticklishness ran across his arm. He giggled.
Lan Xichen’s eyes shone in delight. He lifted his hand, but only rested it on top of his, warm, real, safe.
“May I?”
Jin Guangyao giggled again, this time having nothing to do with the tingling touch in his wrist, but the feeling a wonderful mix of silly and embarrassed, signals exploding in his stomach, electricity lightning each one of his nerves, running to the tip of his fingers. His eyes found those brown ones and he smiled, small and real.
“You may.”
Lan Xichen didn’t answer, he pressed another maddening kiss on his wrist, then another and another, nipping at the ticklish sensitive skin, teasing it and grinning proudly at the tiny giggles it bought. He payed close attention to each inch of skin, went to the other arm and repeated the gesture. Jin Guangyao was already huffing and puffing in laughter when his voice floated in the air.
“Where else is my A-yao ticklish?”
(Mine, mine, mine.)
Jin Guangyao deviated his gaze, pretending to think. There was a playful twinkle in his eyes.
“Er-ge too eager, but this lowly one does not have the necessary knowledge to answer him.” Lan Xichen replaced his kisses for the soft scribbling of too energetic fingers, goosebumps follows his every touch and Jin Guangyao could not even pretend to feel betrayed by his own body when Lan Xichen watched each twitch of his smile, every change of tune of his snickers so, so reverently close.
Another moment, he internally promises, it will be his turn and Jin Guangyao will hoard each laughter, each sensitive spot like it’s the finest silk, the most precious golden to keep and then tickle them until he is the one mapping the other’s reactions.
“If his curiosity is so… impatient, maybe he would find it beneficial to pursue this information on his own?”
Lan Xichen chuckles and he jolts when those tickling fingers stop by the soft inner side of his elbow, making a quiet yelp leave his lips before more snickers followed suit, the other stopping his research to trace and skitter at the newly discovered spot, refusing to not give it every drop of his ticklish care, divided equally in each arm.
Suddenly it got much harder to keep them extended, at the mercy of his light teasing tickles. They continued their path to his biceps, stretching at each line with a single finger and making him snort, snickers higher and a tad more uncontrollable, even if still quiet. He poked his armpits, Jing Guangyao, huffed and pointedly did not lower his arm.
“Very good. Can you continue keeping them up for me, my A-yao? I want to find all of your weak spots and tickle them until all this lovely giggles, all your melodious laughter of yours is singing in the air. I want to play with your reactions, I want to cradle them close, to tease, tickle and care until I see how wide your smile can be. I want your every squirm, your every squeal, your every snicker, I want to hear your laughter by only looking at me.”
“Ah.” His face was on fire, but this unyielding, fond gaze would not let him go to hide it. Maybe he could try doing it in the future, see what tricks Xichen would pull to make him show his every honest, every uncontrolled reaction. His eyes were almost closed, with how much more he was tittering, chuckling at those words, torso wiggling the slightest bit from one side to another as Xichen started clawing softly on his armpit. “Er-ge will find it unfortunate that I am not too… ticklish, then.”
“I will make you.”
Jin Guangyao sputtered, then, blurting his next word in surprise. “What.”
A little more hysterical laughter fell from his lips.
“I’ve found that teasing and anticipation can increase it, the effect of the tickles and the body’s reaction to it.”
“You’ve found.” He put just the littlest trace of an innocent question on it, enough to see the color bloom on the Lan’s neck.
Interesting, he will be holding on that information for later, then.
“We will not try if you don’t wish, but,” he got closer and his blunt nails kept crawling to his ribs, pressing in each bone and vibrating in the perfect way to make him squirm more, scrunch his neck and let out funny sounding huffs of mirth. Lan Xichen continued, determined, “A-yao, your laughter… it already sounds so adorable and your face looks soft. You look happy. It’s perfect, I could stay here forever if so you wish..”
(It’s you. I want you.)
“Er-ge!” He trailed off, without words for once, without anything that wasn’t the light titter of his chuckles and the way they all got squeakier when Lan Xichen shoved his face on his neck, making him instinctively try to curl up and hide the spot but being unsuccessful.
“A-Yao.” He  hummed pleased and grinned at the louder squeak it brought in between the sea of snickers. “Oh my, so cute… Ah, if my memory is not mistaken, there is a lovely, extremely ticklish spot right around…”
He trails off, his breath hitting his neck and teasing it together with the ghost tingling of his words still vibrating on it. Jin Guangyao lets his head fall to the side and giggles and giggles and giggles with abandon.
“Here.” A tiny raspberry finds the exact point where his jaw meets with his neck and a loud, silly squeal-y snort escapes from his lungs before he can stop it, breathless guffaws leaving his lips. He squirms and twists and wiggles but the raspberries just keep coming, being quickly substituted from moment to moment by nibbling and nipping that stretches his giant smile on his face even more, lends his mind even further on the insanity.
Those playful fingers scratch his sides, seemingly only more fuelled every time he accidentally wiggles it away only to find himself found by the tickles, no matter where he tries to go.
There was really no doubt, then.
Jin Guangyao really has been caught.
(He would continue willingly letting himself to be, again and again and again.)
[~*~]
Have you ever thought about how cultivators would pull away from Jin Guangyao's touch or any object he touched because of his heritage all while Lan Xichen held the cup he gave to him and smiled and thanked? Have you ever thought about Jin Guangyao feeling sometimes dirty, sometimes like he shouldn't be touched and then how Lan Xichen could trail his hands and lips on his tickle spots until he is giggling too much to think about it? How he could try to protest half-heartly at first and then Lan Xichen would simply smile calmly and continue his ministrations until there was only laughter leaving his lips?
Yeah I never thought about it either. Anyways Lan Xichen wakes up on the next day and partially remembers what happened which already leaves him all shy and worried he crossed some line and he and A-yao keep titoeing each other until Mingjue loses his patience, starts tickling Lan Xichen like his life depends on it and encourages Jin Guangyao to get revenge.
Lan Xichen, after hearing Jin Guangyao admit that he likes being tickled because it reminds him of good times in his childhood, at first cooing and smiling at him until the mental image of him giggling, squirming, blushing under him appears: *Pass the fuck out*
Gosh imagine discovering you have an enourmous crush on your friend, who you saved the life and who helped you to climb upwards in life and then being promptly DESTROYED by tickles by him rip mah bro a-yao
On a last note, after everything both of them go to sleep, don't find Mingjue at the bed and them squishes on the guest bed to stay with him. Somehow.

You made history. All I can do is try to live up to it.

the ever lovely @saltedpin tagged me in this <3
tag someone you want to get to know better! Or just check in with.
favourite colour: on a whim, i'd say orange, but lime green is up there with it too! but nothing satisfies me more than seeing a bunch of different colours fitting harmoniously together with one another.
last song: involuntarily, pazza musica - marco mengoni & elodie as it was the last song i heard playing as i was leaving my pottery class yesterday and i haven't been able to stop singing it since. voluntarily, mentira - manu chao as i wanted to put on something soothing and his music always calms me down so much. clandestino is one of my favourite albums.
last movie: embarrassingly enough, the lizzie mcguire movie... two of my flatmates and their friend were getting ready for an early 2000s revival party and they wanted to revise some of the staples, so this was the one i happened to watch with them.
currently watching: as in something i have been actually watching these past days, the fourth season of sex education. not my favourite, but i watched the first season when it came out because Gillian Anderson was in it and then actually got interested in some of the characters' storylines. AND also king the land with my flatmates, which i am enjoying a lot. i WAS also watching the fiery priest together with @saltedpin when i was over there, and watched a few episodes when i got back, but i was missing her too much and it didn't feel the same so i put it on hold. OH and i should definitely go back to watching the untamed too, GOD I MISS nie huisang the most...
other stuff i watched this year: oh god, more movies and series that i initially thought... i've rewatched tiger&bunny at the beginning of the year and I have been watching my favourite star trek tos episodes here and there... i have watched tear along the dotted line, as i really like the comic artist who wrote it. i have watched some of the hit movies that came out this year, such as barbie, across the spiderverse (which i LOVED) and, my favourite because it was just too funny, the pope's exorcist. watched almost all of the available somebody feed phil episodes. watched the dungeons and dragons movie because i missed chris pine and actually enjoyed it. OH i went to the far east film festival in Udine last spring so i saw a bunch of movies there too. and many other ones i have no memory of as of now because my memory is not the best.
shows i dropped this year: umhhh, not anything that i remember? i don't really start shows that i know i won't be into, but i do watch things casually sometimes if my flatmates are watching them and then don't really care about keeping up with them.
currently reading: the singer not the song by audrey e. lindop, that @saltedpin gifted me because she thought i might have liked it too and she was absolutely right. oh i am also reading skip to loafer and it's been such a lovely read.
umh i tag @rabbit-habits, @extra-rancid, @chalkythetalkie, @liquid-valo and whoever wants to do this, of course without any obligation to actually do it :)<3

“You think that helping everyone else will keep you from hurting, huh?”
The Lan head disciple had visited the Unclean Realm before and he had treated the Sect Leader Nie kindly during the rise of troubles before he had not changed since his discovery of his own Wen blood, there were rumors about him and his involvement few believed such things always saying that he did not have the sense to do such things, but Sizhui was a study of behavior, and while he played up the helpless role, he also was astute and keenly observant as well. Sizhui could certainly not say whether or not he had something to do with avenging his brother.
Tumblr media
If he did--good for him. Sizhui was forgiving and selfless to a fault. However, after what Jin Guangyao had done to Jin Ling in the temple, after he had destroyed what little happiness he had for his father's sect. Sizhui could not forgive it. He was Lan almost through and through but there was also some of him that was Wen. He walked peacefully beside Nie Huisang a smile on his face. He tilted his head and half turned his body to regard him properly. "I will speak freely." he said softly "My hurt--is bearable." he whispered "I am more concerned for those I care about." he admitted "I have lived well, in these years, and I have had the best of most things--how could I feel anything but gratitude ?" he wondered if he was asking for his own hurts. "Helping others makes me happy." he agreed "I have always been like this though." he said "I think that we gravitate towards what makes us happy." he dug in his sleeve for the feather he had found on a night hunt and opening his qirken pouch he pulled the brightly colored feather and offered it to him. "Nothing will ever bring them back, our loved ones that are lost to us." he whispered "I know this and I have come to terms, sometimes the best thing we can do is be ourselves, and live for our lost ones, honor them and remember them." he blinked violet eyes. He dared to tip his head to the side quizzically "Do you hurt ?" he asked softly. "You know I do not judge, and I do not gossip." it was one of the four thousand rules of his sect. "The only thing I ever share about our chats, when we can have them, is information on birds, or painting techniques. You know that Ouyang Zizhen is quiet accomplished with poetry and he has been painting with watercolor more recently." it was there as a thread to take up should he make the man uncomfortable with him and this train of thought. @cuckoo-among-beasts

Okay, y'know what? I am making a call out post on the MDZS fandom. Specifically those people who are saying "X is a sweet little meow meow who did no wrong" AND those saying "X needs to be condemned they are soooo problematic".
You wanna know why MDZS got me so invested?
All of the characters are FLAWED. They are so human and so real, even for such a fantasy esque setting.
Someone in a fit of anger said something unforgivable without thinking. Someone not knowing all the facts cast judgement on someone else. Someone in a blind rage attempts to kill someone. Someone who had been hurt and abused grows up to be abusive and continuing the cycle.
And that is unfortunately REALISTIC. People IRL are like that. How many times you yelled "I hate you" at your parents because you were mad? Have you ever gotten into a school-yard fight coz someone said something mean to you? How many times do you hear a rumor and think someone is a piece of shit only to find out the real situation is entirely different.
Even Lan Xichen, someone who arguably is such a pacifist and ain't done no wrong, was so blinded by the fact that Huisang and Guangyao are his besties, he never even thought they could do something wrong or be lying to his face.
And that is so painfully real. Nobody in MDZS is supposed to be a pure little meow meow who ain't ever done anything wrong. Everyone there has done something wrong, in different states of severity. Some commit a straight up criminal offence and had to pay for it. Some just shoulda kept their mouth shut and listen. Some should have not sat idly by but taken action.
And that is the beauty of MDZS. It's so real, and so full of raw emotions and knee-jerk reactions and mistakes. You're not supposed to defend anyone blindly or condemn anyone blindly, and instead think critically amd try to look at the situation from every side and understand that some people did a fucked up thing, but why. Some can be forgiven, some cannot and should not. And that's how it should be viewed. As raw human nature on full display.
Rant over, sorry for rambling, but scrolling through the tags of people defending and condemning characters for all the wrong reasons started pissing me off and it needed to be said, as someone new to the fandom who saw this whole issue- Have a good day, drink plenty of water and do the self-care, please don't take this personally, it's just one annoyed old foxes thoughts.

Not to mention Jin Ling then trying to turn all of his hatred onto Wen Ning afterwards. He's a kid who's been reminded of his parents' deaths with every breath he takes, only having stories about them and being fed Jiang Cheng's unhinged hatred for all the love that was lost. If Wei Wuxian turned out to not be the monster he thought he was, then he...he has to hate someone else!
But then Wen Ning turns out to be even MORE gentle than Wei Wuxian, filled with guilt for what happened, flinging himself in front of Lan Sizhui and saying "I won't fight back, get your anger out on me if it'll put you at ease!"
That scene had me crying too yo. Everyone rallies behind Lan Sizhui and calls Jin Ling out for being too aggressive - no one takes his side, no one understands how much he's been affected by his life. Jiang Cheng's solution is to tell him to get angry, but now that's just turned all of his peers against him and calling him violent and unreasonable. So he just breaks down sobbing saying "Yes, I'm a horrible person!" even though NONE of what happened is his fault and he has a right to be angry and trying to find an outlet for his emotion. He just doesn't know HOW. No one ever taught him, everyone ridicules him for crying and distances themselves from his anger. People treat him delicately yet say he needs to toughen up.
I think the worst part is that Wei Wuxian's first scathing (accidental) comment, "Your mother never taught you any manners" is kinda really true. He never had a mother to teach him to express himself, to support him and be vulnerable with him. We joke about how many uncles Jin Ling has but I mean how many AUNTS does he have? How many mother figures does he have? Qin Su is basically traumatized by the death of Jin Rusong so is maybe not the motherly type. Nie Huisang, Lan Xichen, Jiang Cheng - unmarried, unmarried, unmarried.
Wei Wuxian is really the first one to A: tell Jin Ling to get over himself and doesn't treat him like some untouchable young master who no one has the right to lord over, B: openly admits when he's sorry and apologizes and teaches Jin Ling the concept of emotional vulnerability, C: stands by Jin Ling's side to teach him to be himself rather than scolding or threatening or guilting him to fit in better. The fact that Wei Wuxian is NOT a woman may even be better because Jin Ling is seeing that men don't have to fit into the unyielding mold of tough guys but can still have fun without being a pushover.
Jin Ling is such a tragedy because there really is no one left to blame. It's not that easy. Wei Wuxian and Wen Ning are responsible, but they're not maniacal villains laughing at the top of a mountain without a care in the world for the consequences. They cared, they had family who were lost, they suffered before and don't want anyone to suffer again - they hate themselves just as much for their part in what happened.
Even Jin Guangyao is such a complicated case for Jin Ling. It's the uncle who was always nice to him, who gave him his spirit dog, who was always putting on a smile. In comparison to Jiang Cheng, Jin Guangyao was a lifeline. And then Jin Guangyao turns out to be a villain who doesn't bat an eye at killing and threatening...but who also didn't WANT these bad things to be "necessary." He too was wronged by the world and lashed out at its unfairness.
This fifteen year old kid has gone through so much, simultaneously pampered into a spoiled brat and utterly isolated from his peers, filled with vengeance for his entire life but also trying to love and be loved. He learned from Jiang Cheng to pretend to be above it all, and he learned from Jin Guangyao to be kind and forgive, but all of it was lies and unhealthy coping. Jiang Cheng essentially taught him to argue with anyone who disagrees with him or looks down on him to assert his dominance, and Jin Guangyao taught him to suppress his desire to speak his mind and never start fights because of etiquette and self-preservation - to the point that he rejects who he is and wants to be.
At this age, Jin Ling's already having to learn the lesson that everyone's going to be throwing opinions around, no one is perfect, you can't easily sort people into categories. In the end, he can take advice from others, but it's up to him to make the choice of who he wants to be. And he's learned that unrelenting resentment makes for an easy path to walk in life, but it's not actually how life works. The cultivation world can turn on someone they worshipped unconditionally. That included Wei Wuxian, that included Jin Guangyao, and even to an extent Jin Ling himself.
He has to take over the Jin Clan after all these scandals and atrocities, but he's become the kind of kid who will answer an insignificant man's plea for help, who is making friends who won't judge him and will stand by him even when he makes mistakes, and by the end of the story he's matured, yet also finally learned to be a kid. Nothing's perfect, none of the tragedies of the past can be reversed (and Jiang Cheng's still gonna get into fights whenever he accidentally runs into Wen Ning), but at least now Jin Ling can choose how he decides to live, who he hates and who he forgives.
while reading the books, i remember wei wuxian’s relationship with jin ling hitting me especially hard. i was crying when the whole stabbing thing happened. but i truly adore what becomes of them and do you know why? because jin ling does something the others could never, something miraculous really––he actually unlearns the prejudice he’s been taught to hold against wei wuxian. he meets wwx, full of disdain, slowly learning about who wwx really is and it has nothing to do with wwx’s outward appearance. and when the truth is revealed, the internal warring for jin ling is plainly portrayed and even if he does give in to a hate intermingled with grief that he has internalised towards this one entity (wei wuxian was never a person in his mind, just the ‘killer’ of his parents, a phantom, before the events of the book happened), you can tell his heart has already turned, that it will keep turning and that’s what happens. you have jin ling, an orphaned child, who hated someone whom his mother loved dearly, because that man caused his parents’ death but it is such a commendable thing that wei wuxian was able to create a space in jin ling’s heart and jin ling was able to accept it. it’s the way both jin ling & jiang cheng blame the death of their parents on wwx but only the former was able to see wei wuxian clearly and actually forge a bond of love with him.
it’s the fact that if ANYONE in this story can actually rightfully hold a grudge against wei wuxian, it’s jin ling, but instead this teenager decides that wei wuxian is much too good and that having him as an uncle is lovely, after all.

How often can I sigh deeply thinking about how JGY always saw NHS as his own little brother.
Like in the untamed, from the start he's very protective and at no point that protectiveness stop.
Like the one time he looks at NHS without affection or care is at the temple.
And just... Damn. That's his didi.
Because just like he supported LXC, he supported NHS too, sure his statement was that he never hurt lxc or ever thought about hurting lxc but that's cause he knows he already hurt NHS by killing NMJ.
But he didn't have to help NHS as much as he did or as often as he did, cause it seemed to be a lot.
The answer is every other night.... SangYao my beloved....
God I really love fics that have Meng Yao being protective over Huisang... Just the best. God bless. Thank you for writing. All of you.

It’s 2am and I’m thinking about how even war couldn’t kill off Huaisang’s brightness but the moment his brother died he killed it himself and set a fire instead that would burn everyone responsible and devour whoever got in his way
He proved himself a Nie without lifting a saber
God NMJ would hate the way his brother turned out, especially because it was for him and NHS knows that, knows that so well but he refuses to let NMJ be murdered and the killer go free
JGY took his world and NHS broke his down and tossed the shattered pieces at his feet before lighting them on fire
#the untamed#mdzs#nie huaisang#nie huisang#nie mingjue#nie sect#ignore me it’s 3 am#well it’s 2am but that’s my ramble tag lmao#feral NHS is something we should talk about more#he urged MXY to kill himself set his brothers uncontrollable arm free in mo village#without remorse to any innocents there or nearby#he trapped the kids (13 in the book!!) in Yi city with Xue Yang on purpose!#NHS is not an uwu soft baby in canon he’s absolutely there for violence and pain#he hurt he was hurt he lost his entire world and now the rest of Jianghu will bow to him#(in reference to his chief cultivator status but also like he’d fucking burn everyone for his bro)#if he thought for a second that WWX and LWJ would turn against him and support JGY I have no doubt he would have gotten them killed instantl#NHS is arguably the most dangerous person in MDZS not because of strength (I’ll give that to YLLZ) but because he has nothing left to lose#he was more than happy to toss his reputation and sect to the side and leave it dor others to care for for his revenge#NHS might have been a sweet boy who didn’t want to touch blood in cloud recesses but when he lost Da-Ge he lost everything including#the only person in the world who could call him to a halt#JGY still loved Qin Su still kept Sisi alive still remained fond of NHS and clearly adored Xichen and Jin Ling#NHS had Da-Ge and JGY took him away and now NHS has nothing to lose but EVERYTHING to gain#so I personally think he’s the most dangerous just because if you fuck with him he can destroy you but you won’t find evidence or#a living person#someone else may have a diff opinion but I’m in a Nie mood so NHS is my killer boo rn

You usually write Nie Huisang as someone who's always been a bit of a schemer so I'd like to see your take on him if he wasn't someone who enjoyed manipulation much before being motivated to do it to achieve revenge
“How am I supposed to trust you now?” Lan Xichen asked, and Nie Huaisang laughed bitterly.
“I’m not any different than what I was before, er-ge,” he said. “What, do you think I’m, what, some sort of mastermind now? Or that I’ve been one all along?”
“Haven’t you?”
“No.” Nie Huaisang looked down at his hands. “Do you think it would have taken da-ge a decade and a half to avenge me, if I’d been the one that’d died?”
Lan Xichen hesitated.
“Or say it was you that died, and Lan Wangji was the one who figured it out. A decade and a half? In the end, I had to rely someone getting resurrected so that they could figure out in a few months what it took me years to puzzle out…what sort of mastermind would you call that?” Another laugh, even more bitter. Mocking. Full of self-hatred. “The only thing I was ever good at was finding someone to cheat off of. What was all this, if not just more of that?”
“Wei Wuxian’s return, then. Mo Xuanyu’s sacrifice. Didn’t you plan that?”
“Plan? You assume I planned anything. I took advantage of any opportunities I ran across, and that was one of them. Mo Xuanyu told me what he was going to do and wouldn’t listen when I tried to dissuade him, and he was the one who knew the ritual, not me. What was I supposed to do, locking him in a room with nothing sharp for the rest of his life?”
“I suppose not.”
“He was nice,” Nie Huaisang said, morose. “We chatted sometimes, when he lived in Jinlin Tower. You never paid him any mind, but I did, sometimes. We bonded over being the most pathetic people there…you know, when they sent him away, I had no idea where he’d gone? I looked, a bit. Not much. I’m not good at things. I’m not even good at friends.”
Lan Xichen was silent.
“I didn’t have any contact with him after that, right up until he sent me a letter telling me that he was worried about what would happen to me when the world ended…ah, no, don’t give me that look, er-ge! See, he was planning on bringing back someone really nasty, and he knew that after they finished the job he wanted, killing his family, they’d be free to do as they liked, and he figured whatever they did would be pretty bad. He didn’t care, though. He thought everyone deserved it.”
“Except you.”
“Except me,” Nie Huaisang agreed. “I did ask him to bring back Wei-xiong, though. That much I did do. I told him that Wei-xiong had been my friend once, so if he destroyed the world, then he probably wouldn’t be too mean to me in the process.”
“Wei-gongzi would never have destroyed the world.”
“Yeah, well, I wasn’t going to tell a dying madman that, was I? If I’d been smart, if I’d been a mastermind, I would’ve asked him to include san-ge on his list of names for revenge so that Wei-xiong would have no choice but to do what I wanted.”
“That’s a good point. Why didn’t you?”
“I only thought of it later!” Nie Huaisang giggled. It was not a happy sound. “Not until after Wei-xiong was already here and free as a bird. I just didn’t think of it! Ah, look at my great revenge, er-ge. You shouldn’t be mad at me for it, you should be proud. I fucked it up every chance I could, but somehow I still managed, in the end. It’s the only good thing I’ve ever done.”
“…Huaisang –”
“I didn’t actually come back here to ask you to trust me,” Nie Huaisang said. “I just wanted to wish you a fruitful seclusion. You can believe me or not, whatever you want.”
His lips twitched.
“On this, and any other subject.”

Good take OP, good take 👏
The Lan Clan of Gusu's motto is "Elegance and Righteousness."
While Wei Wuxian certainly never adhered to their principles of elegance (which was really rather about order, obedience, restraint and control), he too lived by his own code of righteousness, as nurtured in him by Jiang-shushu.
I personally believe Lan Wangji did develop a big ol' crush on Wei Wuxian just from all his teasing and mischievousness, long before he realized Wei Wuxian's true character, but he resented this crush at the time because of how shameless (read: obnoxious) Wei Wuxian so often was.
But then Lan Wangji saw Wei Wuxian over and over looking after others - whether it was cajoling Nie Huisang, defending his shijie from a young Jin Zixuan, saving that Gusu sect disciple from drowning at his own endangerment, protecting mienmien at the Xuanwu Cave, offering to carry him when he was injured and later even saving him, too - he began to realize that Wei Wuxian was indeed a truly good person at heart.
Then they became older, and Lan Wangji witnessed Wei Wuxian standing alone against even more injustices. He openly defended the innocent Wen clan members to the other sects' faces; helped Wen Qing and Wen Ning not only because they saved him but because he knew they were genuinely good people. He took in and cared for the young, the old, the injured, and the infirm. During the ambush, Lan Wangji knew Wei Wuxian had principles and would never curse someone nor kill indiscriminately. He saw how Wei Wuxian was repeatedly demonized for doing what was right (or just) in whatever situation, and he saw how the other sects repeatedly maintained a standard of, "Not my problem, not my concern." I love Zewu-jun, but not even Mr. Kindhearted himself said anything about any of this. I think that's when his worldview changed.
After everything, Lan Wangji knew Wei Wuxian was more righteous than anyone, and coupled with his profound feelings, he was willing to be Wei Ying's sole defender and stand in defiance against the other sects and his own clan. Because he loved him, because it was right, and because Wei Wuxian would absolutely do the same for him.
I think it is slightly overlooked that Lan Wangji, at first, had been upset that someone as unexpected (to him) as Wei Wuxian could embody everything he admired in what he saw as good and right in the world. He had a very traditional expectation of what that was supposed to present itself as. It wasn't supposed be anything like Wei Wuxian, detachment is what he was told was to cherish.
Yet everything he idealized was in Wei Wuxian. He was thrown off over this and I think this is what he has to come to terms with as he fell deeply in love. It's what made him hesitant in his youth about what propriety was and the conflation in the world that propriety means good as well. It's what makes his core frustration within Xuanwu Cave spill over as he was upset that everything he loved at the time was continually what he was told was the wrong way to be.
I also think it is at that point while not fully understanding Wei Wuxian as a person he accepts his own love of him, and why during the supervisory office he realizes his own assumptions of righteousness hurt Wei Wuxian and caused Wei Wuxian to wall himself up from him for many years. Especially because before Wei Wuxian had taken his surly interactions and harshness in good nature and affectionately until then. He had unintentionally insulted Wei Wuxian's own good nature by clinging to expected but cold proprietary.
He doesn't say what Wei Wuxian himself did to those he killed was wrong, but that he had the potential to lapse out or his chosen moral code. Which does wound Wei Wuxian emotionally as he also idealized what Lan Wangji was as a person and believed they would both see that they were nothing unwavering there. Lan Wangji's own hesitation to drop his assumptions of proprietary meaning moral is his own realization that he has deeply misjudged Wei Wuxian.
After that point he tries to be gentle and probing in his inquiries to Wei Wuxian but Wei Wuxian has already been hurt and put a barrier between them. One that doesn't fall until they are older and Wei Wuxian is revived for Lan Wangji to grow into his own comfortability in what he chooses to follow as his moral path and Wei Wuxian is able to also lower his defenses as he goes back to praising Lan Wangji as a good person and they are both able to stand as equals in meeting the others thoughts and knowing they are able to naturally gravitate to the other in shared moral understanding without fear of offense.

I want to write the co-dependent soul-bond psychic link fic about basically the whole Sunshot generation (Wei Wuxian, Lan Wangji, Jiang Yanli, Jiang Cheng, Jin Zixuan, Mianmian, Nie Huisang, Wen Qing and Wen Ning) all struggling to adapt and re-settle into their normal lives and responsibilities despite desperately wanting to all pile together at all times, partially because of the bond and partially because of the trauma, but that fic won’t make any sense if I don’t first write the fic of all of them being transported to a hell world and trapped there for what feels like a year but is in reality only three months, being forced to rely on each other to survive, sleeping and eating and fighting and taking care of each other, uncovering the terrible secrets of this fucked-up Silent Hill type city, and finally working together to open a portal home again (and of course in the process ending up soul-bonded.)
But I don’t WANT to write that fic. That fic is angsty and painful and full of gore and horror elements and absolutely ripe with pain! And the other fic is ALSO painful but it’s HEALING painful and it’s different! I WANT to write a fic about everybody splitting up to go back to their homes, and waking up screaming with nightmares every single night but desperately trying to be strong because they all agreed their families and sects would need them until finally Mingjue writes Xichen who grabs his didi and flies right for the Unclean Realm, and they both watch with a complicated mix of emotions and Wangji and Huisang (who grew up together but never actually struck up a friendship in all those years) collapse into each other’s arms and cling like they may die if they let go!! I want to write about everybody else just kind of turning up at The Unclean Realm in twos and threes to crawl into the cuddle puddle in the middle of the floor in Huisang’s room!!

Plan tell me what the books says about relationship between Wei Ying and Nie Huisang? Because I’ve been reading a lot of fanfiction lately and now I just can’t remember how it looked in canon
Answered here & here.
Nie Huaisang and Wei Wuxian got along quite well in the Cloud Recesses. Nie Huaisang was impressed and intrigued by Wei Wuxian's ideas re : cultivating w resentful energy. Unlike jiang cheng he does not constantly put him down. It's interesting to see the difference in dynamic especially in the moments were it's closely contrasted w jc's behavior:
Nie Huaisang thought for a while. “Actually, I thought what you said was very interesting,” he said, not entirely able to hide his envy and yearning. “To get spiritual energy you have to cultivate it yourself, and you can only form a golden core with a lot of hard work. It takes years for people who were born without talent, like me. It’s like I’m missing something because a dog bit me when I was in the womb. But all resentful energy comes from fierce ghosts and demons and so on, so as long as you can take it, you can use it. How amazing that would be.” …
Wei Wuxian laughed. “Right? Not using it is a waste.”
“Enough,” Jiang Cheng warned. “Whatever nonsense you spout, you better not head down that sort of dark road.” (Chapter 13)
(jc also dismisses WWX's ideas for the compass of evil and the lure flags...)
Changing the topic, he said, “If only there was something like fishing bait that could draw the water ghosts in. Or, something that could point in the direction they’re hiding, like a compass, that sort of thing.”
“Lower your head and watch the water,” Jiang Cheng said. “You’re letting your fantasies run wild again. Concentrate on looking for water ghosts like you’re supposed to.”
“Hey, mounting swords and flying was also only a fantasy once!” Wei Wuxian said.
Here NHS comes to tell WWX the good news that he probably won’t get punished meanwhile jc is hoping otherwise:
To prevent fuddy-duddies Lan the Elder and Lan the Younger from dragging him out of bed in the middle of the night to rain punishment upon him, Wei Wuxian clung to his sword the entire time he slept. However, the water was quiet and the air was still, and when the next day arrived, Nie Huaisang came to look for him, overjoyed at unexpected good news. “Brother Wei, luck is really on your side. Last night, the old man left for Qinghe to attend the Discussion Conference my clan is hosting. We don’t have to listen to lectures for the next few days!”
Without the old one, only the young one remained. This would be easy to deal with! Wei Wuxian rolled off the bed and laughed while putting on his boots. “Heaven’s charmed clouds are blessing me with shade.”
Jiang Cheng was beside him polishing his sword with loving care when he decided to spill cold water over Wei Wuxian’s head. “Just wait until he gets back. You can’t escape punishment.”
Keeping in mind that Wei Wuxian was perpetually punished and singled out for punishment in Lotus Pier this hits some type of way... NHS also asks for medicine for WWX while jc is just thinking of himself... as usual:
Jiang Cheng couldn’t have felt more awkward and had no idea how to answer, so Nie Huaisang beat him to it. “Brother Xichen, Brother Wei was punished by being hit over 100 times with the discipline ruler. Is there any medicine that could help him?”
...
Jiang Cheng was too embarrassed to talk about what Wei Wuxian had been up to. After all, all of them had egged him on to go and buy alcohol, and they all deserved to be punished as well. He could only speak vaguely. “It’s nothing. It’s nothing. It’s not that bad! He can walk. Wei Wuxian, why haven’t you gotten off yet?”
Ultimately though NHS and WWX don't have that many interactions throughout the book. The friendship aspect of their relationship was beefed up by cql/fanon. NHS didn't bring back WWX because he missed his bff, he brought WWX back because he realized WWX was the only one specialized enough in resentful energy to be able to manage NMJ''s resentful arm and solve the mystery.
He tried to search for his elder brother’s corpse, but after so many years and so much hard work, he could only find a single left hand. He was stuck at this step, without anything that could lead to the next. In addition, the left hand was abnormally fierce, too difficult to suppress. If it was left by his side, it’d keep on resulting in bloodshed. So he remembered someone. Someone who was best at dealing with these things, these problems.
The YiLing Patriarch.
But the YiLing Patriarch had been torn into pieces already. What should he do now? And so he remembered someone else. Mo XuanYu, who’d been kicked out of Koi Tower.
Perhaps to gain information from Mo XuanYu, Nie HuaiSang talked to him once. From Mo XuanYu’s grievances, he knew that Mo XuanYu had once read the fragmented manuscript that recorded an ancient, forbidden technique in Jin GuangYao’s collection. He then urged Mo XuanYu, who had had enough of the humiliation coming from his own clan members, to seek revenge using the forbidden technique of body sacrifice.
And which fierce ghost was summoned?
It was the YiLing Patriarch again, of course.
Mo XuanYu, no longer able to put up with his circumstances, finally painted the blood array, and Nie HuaiSang also used the opportunity to release the hot potato he was no longer able to keep: ChiFeng-Zun’s left hand.
From then on, the plan successfully began. He no longer needed to exert his energy on searching for the remaining limbs of Nie MingJue, instead leaving all of the dangerous and bothersome things to Wei WuXian and Lan WangJi.
These of course are all WWX's thoughts, so we don't know exactly what went through NHS's mind- as WWX himself caveats but probably close enough.
Wei WuXian stared at him for a while before finally averting his gaze. Conjectures were conjectures, after all. Nobody had evidence.

In the end though, regardless of his relationship w WWX or of his motivation NHS is the one who made WangXian possible again.
