Bonkers patchwork playmat I made for a friend's new baby. As with all my patchwork so far, this is entirely handmade and constructed from scrap fabric (old clothes, leftover from other projects, etc). It's a variation on this pattern from talesofcloth.
EPP patchworking is one of the most rewarding hobbies I know of. The barrier to entry in terms of cost is very low. Give it a go if you're in need of a relaxing activity!

As I stitched row eighteen together I realised I did not have enough patches in the kit bag I had made up to make all of the row eighteens. Today I laid them all out on the floor to figure out what I had done. For some reason I had made up the kits from eighteen on with only four rows in each bag. Don't know why but it is all sorted now. I did wonder why I had a bag of patches left over but not any more. Now all I have to do is add the extra rows to the kit bags and keep on stitching.

Starting the adventure on this quilt! My arm hurts after doing all of this by myself but I’m excited to get working on this!

I am quite proud of this stitching line.

I wish they all looked this nice, but in the end they won't even be seen. I will just enjoy the pretty ones while I can.

All four eyes in one place!
Ive been working on hand piecing a quilt off and on for over a year now with these teeny tiny hexagons. A few months ago I started a mini project as a part of the bigger project which was to make eyes themed after each of the four podcasts with eye motifs Welcome to Nightvale, The Magnus Archives, Hello From the Hallowoods, and Malevolent.
Last night I finished the last of them. I figured I should add a post that has all four pictures at once.
After I add the last eye to the quilt itself I’ll update this with a picture of the whole thing so far.

I need to baste so many more 1" hexagons. I've done a few orange and 18 white tonight. Yesterday I cut about 120 of the white ones. I try to make good progress, but my right shoulder-to-neck flares up in pain. I want to get more done!

John O'Groats to Lands End in Hexagons by Frances Begbie
Why I like it: Obviously a huge amount of work went into this piece. The hexagons were thumbprint sized, but the overall quilt had a a huge presence. I liked that the colours of the counties sometimes related to them (like Cornwall's black and white). The whole thing reminded me of the election maps we saw this year. When I was at a textiles museum in Thailand I saw a map of Thailand where each province/changwat had been produced in a different regional textile technique. This reminded me of that, but slightly less cool.

Dr Who OBW. Did some free motion quilting on my domestic for this.
I thought the hexagon block was an excellent block for this fabric (you can see it unaltered in the borders), I think it gives it a swirly feel!
I love Toscana blenders too. The black looks like if you felt it, it would be velvety, but no, it’s just regular old 100% quilting cotton.
I didn’t have enough of the blue to do the entire back, but I think the two tone blue looks good especially because I did the binding in the smaller amount.

Friday was busy. I worked from home and got a heap of work done. I was able to smash it out in half the time in the quiet of my home office. The day started out chilly but it warmed up rapidly and so I decided to run on my lunch break. It was beautiful out there and it felt like a good reward for getting all the work done. When I got back I did my usual cool down walk around the flower garden. On the way back inside I grabbed some greens from the vege garden for my lunchtime smoothie. So yum. More work was done and then housework then patchwork to round out a busy Friday. So good to see the sunshine again after a sudden very cold snap.

Fantastic!! That’s super helpful! Thank you so much 😁😁😁
Question for the paper piecing quilt community particularly those that make hexie quilts or intricate blocks- how do you finish the quilt? Like when you are combining the quilt top, batting, and backing? Do you stitch in the ditch? Do you use a quilting stencil and a free motion foot?
I want my next quilt to be a hexie quilt but I’m not sure how the finishing process would look!
