Manwhore AU headcanon
I like to believe Manwhore Ody got home shortly after the war ended because he didn't have to deal with any of the bullshit that canon Ody has to deal with.
Like imagine: if only he seduced his way out of the whole Polyphemus situation, he wouldn't have pissed off Poseidon, meaning he would've got home pretty much immediately.
I'm not even saying he had to fuck Poly (he'd die), but he could've used his babygirl looks or something. Be like "I'm sorry about your sheep, pookie *bats eyelashes*", but no. He just had to abandon all reason and blind the cyclops before telling him his full legal name and address.

here's part 7! hope you guys enjoy! part 8 will be uploaded tomorrow!
(p.s my headcanon explainations are in the tags if you're curious)
the post/thread that started this whole au
dinner scene: part 1 | part 2 | part 3 | part 4 | part 5 | part 6 | part 8
there's a masterlist now!
*after everyone had gone inside, telemachus left to go to his room to change while penelope and odysseus headed to theirs*
*penelope had help getting changed/ready from her handmaiden, however odysseus doesnā€™t start changing, instead heā€™s just sitting on a lounge chair looking out the window at the sun setting*
penelope: *now ready for the evening*
penelope: *to her handmaiden* thank you for your help.Ā
penelope: *smiles as sheā€™s walking to the bedroom door with her*Ā
penelope: *remembers something* oh! please let the others know to make sure you all grab yourself enough to eat after all the hard work the past couple of days! or take some of the remaining fish & meat home to your families!
penelope: *waves goodbye as her handmaiden leaves the room*
penelope: *closes the door and turns to face odysseus*
odysseus: *still staring out the window*
penelope: odysseus?
odysseus: *no response*
penelope: *understands he doesnā€™t mean to ignore her*Ā
penelope: *slowly walks towards him* my love, it's just you and i now
odysseus: *finally realises penelope was calling out to him*Ā
odysseus: *turns his head to her* iā€™m sorry penelope
odysseus: *looks her up and down, always amazed by the beauty of his wife*
penelope: *giggles as she see the lovestruck look on odysseus face*
penelope: *stops just in front of him and twirls around*
penelope: see something you like?
odysseus: *standing up and pulls her into him by her waist*Ā
odysseus: always *goes in for a kiss*
penelope: *accepts the kiss*
penelope: *giggles when odysseus keeps planting kisses all over her face*
penelope: my dear husband, stop distracting me!Ā
penelope: itā€™s time for you to get ready.
odysseus: *stops the kisses and looks down and sighs*
penelope: *cups his cheek with her hand and turns his face back to hers*Ā
penelope: you know iā€™m not going to force you to wear anything you donā€™t want to, right?
odysseus: *leans into her hand* i know, i knowā€¦
odysseus: itā€™s so silly of me isnā€™t, itā€™s just clothing-
penelope: *now holding his face with both her hands* nothing is silly, not if it makes you uncomfortable my love
odysseus: *smiles* i love you
penelope: *smiles back* i love you too
penelope: *lets his face go* now, what would you like to wear tonight?Ā
odysseus: *looking at the tyrian purple pelops she's wearing* i would like to match my beautiful wife
penelope: *knows she had a chiton made for him at the same time she had her pelops made* ok, let's get you matching then
*once odysseus is ready, him and penelope leave their room and make their way to the palace entrance ready to greet their dinner guests*
*when they arrive, they see telemachus; who is dressed in more ā€˜princelyā€™ attire than his usual day-to-day clothing, talking to athena who arrived not long ago*
telemachus: oh! mother, father, you're ready!
athena: *turning to them*
athena: *smiling* good evening
penelope: *smiles back* good evening lady athena
athena: please penelope, i think weā€™ve known each other long enoughā€¦ especially after everything in the past year
athena: just athena is fine
penelope: *smiles* sureā€¦athena
odysseus: *looking at athena*Ā
odysseus: itā€™s still so weird not seeing you in all your armour
athena: *laughs* well i thought the occasion didnā€™t require it
*the four of them continue talking for a little bit*
athena: i see that my uncle hasnā€™t arrived yet.
telemachus: *turns to his father* you told him it was tonight right?
odysseus: *nods* i did
odysseus: *thinks for moment and sighs*Ā
odysseus: heā€™s not going to come to this entranceā€¦ but i know where heā€™ll be
athena: iā€™ll go with you to get him
telemachus: me too!
penelope: *laughs* well i guess i might as well join too
odysseus: letā€™s go then
*they all head in the direction of the entrance for the palace gardens*
odysseus: *stops them before they all head outside* ok maybe we donā€™t all need to go down to the sea
odysseus: iā€™ll go meet him and weā€™ll both join you shortly
*telemachus, penelope and athena wait by the entrance talking amongst themselves, while odysseus makes his way down to the palace cove*
*odysseus arrives at the cove when he sees poseidon making his way out of the water*
poseidon: *sees odysseus*Ā
poseidon: king of ithaca
odysseus: *deadpan expression* poseidon.
poseidon: *rolls his eyes at odysseus, for the clear lack of title for him*
odysseus: the others are waiting, shall we get going?
poseidon: *about to agree when he remembers about the arrow*
poseidon: wai- uh i mean, i have a question before we leaveā€¦
odysseus: *eyebrow raised*Ā
poseidon: you're notā€¦ i donā€™t know, mad or angry with me or the seaā€™s inhabitants by any chance?
odysseus: huh?
poseidon: *pinches the bridge of his nose* has the sea or i, done anything to offend you in the past day?
odysseus: *now confused* no?
poseidon: *drops his hand from his face and then points at odysseus* then why did you shoot me?!
odysseus: *even more confused* shoot yo- whAT?
poseidon: *reaches into his chiton and pulls out the arrow he kept there*Ā
poseidon: *shows the arrow to odysseus* please tell me then, what have i done that's got you shooting arrows at the sea?
odysseus: *looking at the arrow, then up to poseidon* i've not shot any arrows at the sea?Ā
odysseus: also, who shoots arrows into the sea?!
poseidon: *hands up in the air in agreement, the arrow being thrown behind him*Ā
poseidon: that's what i said! but who else would it be? it hit the waters of this cove, so unless-
odysseus: *suddenly realises where the arrow has come from*
odysseus: *starts laughing*
poseidon: *brings his hands down and narrows his eyes at odysseus* what is so funny?
odysseus: *wiping a tear away from his eye from laughing so much* my son
poseidon: *now his turn to be confused* huh?
odysseus: *having collected himself * my son, he shot the arrow during archery practice
poseidon: *eyebrow raised* and you're teaching your son to shoot the seaā€¦ because?
odysseus: *rolls his eyes* it was an accident, my wife startled him and he misfired.Ā
odysseus: *lets out a tiny chuckle* i canā€™t believe it made its way to the sea thoughĀ
poseidon: oh
odysseus: yeah ā€˜ohā€™Ā
odysseus: why would you think iā€™d shoot the sea anyway?Ā
poseidon: *arms now crossed and looking away from odysseus*Ā
poseidon: who knows with youā€¦
odysseus : *smirking* oh poseidonā€¦iā€™d just use other ways to get your attention
poseidon: *whips his head back to odysseus*Ā
poseidon: *sees odysseusā€™ shit-eating grin*
poseidon: oh be quietā€¦ what if i arrived early?Ā
poseidon: *points at himself* i could have been hit!
odysseus: *snorts* oh pleaseā€¦ an single arrow wouldn't kill you
odysseus: besides we both know you've been impaled with worse
odysseus: *turns to head back up to the palace* anyways, let's head up to the others
poseidon: *realising what odysseus said* wait-
poseidon: odysseus of ithaca!
odysseus: *just keeps walking ignoring poseidonā€™s outburst*
poseidon: *grumbles under his breath but swiftly walks to catch up odysseus*Ā
*odysseus & poseidon make their way to the palace garden entrance where now only athena is waiting*
odysseus: *looking to athena* where-
athena: *already knows what odysseus is going to ask* they headed to the dining hall.
athena: telemachus wanted to check some final things and penelope left to accompany him.
odysseus: *nods at her explanation*
athena: *turns to look at poseidon*
athena: *nods head at poseidon* uncle
poseidon: *blank look on his face* athena.
athena: *now looking at her nails* not seen you since you were up on olympus in apolloā€™s infirmaryā€¦
athena: *looks back at poseidon and grins* speaking of whichā€¦ howā€™s your chest?
poseidon: *scoffs and crosses his arms* fine.
poseidon: *suddenly smirks back* need i remind you that you were also there for a similarĀ  reasonā€¦howā€™s your face?
athena: *grin has left her face and now narrows her eyes at poseidon*
odysseus: *not wanting to deal with two bickering gods*Ā
odysseus: *sighs*
odysseus: *claps his hands together sharply* OK! how about we donā€™t fight in my palace, yeah?
odysseus: besides, telemachus has been extremely excited about tonightā€™s dinner, so i do not want anything ruining itā€¦
odysseus: *makes sure to look at both of them*
odysseus: *red eyes appear & disappear in the blink of an eye*
odysseus: got it?
athena: *now semi-understands why poseidon listened to odysseus ā€˜requestsā€™* uh-
poseidon: *putting an arm around athenaā€™s shoulders* yep, no arguing here!
poseidon: *turns his head towards athena* isnā€™t that right my dear niece?
athena: *stares at poseidon in disbelief at the words ā€˜dear nieceā€™*
athena: *turns to odysseus* you canā€™t be seri-
odysseus: *raises his eyebrow*
athena: *sighs* sure, no fighting in the palace
odysseus: *smiles* good. now i know you know where the dining hall is located athena, but poseidon doesnā€™t.
odysseus: so, if youā€™ll both please follow me.
odysseus: *starts walking down the hall*
athena: *shrugs poseidonā€™s arm off in disgust and follows odysseus*
poseidon: *sighs and also follows odysseus*
#*meanwhile in the dining hall*#telemachus: *hands on his hips looking at the table* perfect!#penelope: *looking at the name scrolls telemachus put out in each seat*#penelope: are you finally happy now?#telemachus: *laughs* yes mother#telemachus: i thought itā€™d be nicer for them to see where they are rather than me pointing to seats#penelope: *pulls telemachus in for a hug* oh i'm so proud of you for coming up with this whole evening#telemachus: *hugs her back* thank you mother#telemachus: i just hope everyone has fun#penelope: *thinks of the potential chaos that's about to happen* oh i'm sure they will#so as for the whole clothes/getting ready bit between penelope and odysseus#one of my other little headcanons is that while on calypso's island odysseus had no say about how she wanted him to look/dress#like i know most people have animated/wrote odysseus as scruffy/unkempt looking after the 7 years#but i think calypso wouldnt let him get like that. hes her 'love of her life' / pet she's going to make sure he's always groomed & well kep#including making him wear all sort of clothing and outfits she makes/creates for him#so once back on ithaca odysseus isn't too keen on having to dress up or have servants dress/groom him like a normal king would#after months of healing he'll only now just let penelope help out as he knows she loves him and views him as equal than a doll to play with#odysseus epic#odysseus#penelope epic the musical#telemachus epic#telemachus#poseidon epic#poseidon#epic the musical#epic: the musical#friends in higher places au?#nonsense thoughts#ongoing

I don't think we are talking enough about the moment in the Odyssey when Odysseus and his men were sailing away from blinded Polyphemus.
I mean, when Odysseus started to mock the cyclop, Polyphemus heard from where the sound was going and threw a big rock at their ship, which almost got them and, if I remember correctly, made their ship start going back to the shore, so they had to row harder to prevent ship from returning to Polyphemus.
And then after that, Odysseus stood up and continued to shout his name, address, and security number to Polyphemus while all his crew was trying to stop him because, you know, they didn't wanna die.

Hi, itā€™s me again. I made another Drabble as you can see but Iā€™m kinda wondering if itā€™s alright for me to make a story from your au? It will take some time though, I donā€™t know how long but I wonā€™t do it without your permission. Aside from that, hereā€™s the Drabble, I hope you have a good day/night, take care ^^:
The cry of grief
Zeus circles around the shoreline below him, thunder clapping with each flap of his wings. He eyes down his target, a lone mortal watching as his ship sail away. Did they leave him to die? So much for a loyal crew, but they have good preservation.
The king of the gods canā€™t help but wonder on how to punish the fallen king. He could kill his crew right in front of him, but that seemed too easy and too light of a punishment for the mortal who slew one of Heliosā€™ cattle. Truthfully, the god of the Sun would be the one giving out the punishment but according to him, something feltā€¦ Wrong. Dangerous even.
It was ultimately curiosity that drew Zeus in, wishing to see what about the pathetic man struck fear into Helios but even miles above in the sky, he could feel it. A simmering power, threatening to boil over and combust. Something unnatural that twists and snaps the law of the lands that paint the world, too weak to identify yet terrifyingly powerful enough to sense.
He has to look into this.
With a swoop downwards that no bird would survive doing, Zeusā€™s body becomes engulfed in lightning and struck down right in front of the king of Ithaca, inches away. His smile was wide, his presence dominating yet his eyes hide his true thoughts, veiled to assess the situation until the time comes to strike.
ā€œPride is a damsel in distress.ā€ He started, watching as the kingā€™s head hung low, body trembling. Though it is not of fear or shame he had noted in his mind before continuing. ā€œHiding away where only I can undress her. Try as she can not to confess-ā€œ
*SLAP*
Zeus blinked, his mind slow to register the blooming pain on his cheek. Did that mortal just-
He looked down and finally met the kingā€™s eyes, full of anger, guilt and sorrow as though he had been deceived by someone he held most dear. Heavy tears rolled down his face, blending with the rainfall as the mortal hissed, ready to strike once again, ā€œShut up..! JUST SHUT UP YOU LIAR!!ā€
ā€œLiar?!ā€ Zeus repeated in offense, his hair raised through his fury at the accusation. ā€œHave you gone mad since your encounter with Poseidon?!ā€
ā€œOf course you wonā€™t knowā€¦ Of course..ā€ The mortal muttered, a few broken laughs of disbelief slip away from his mouth. ā€œWhat did I expect? Not even you could stop this! Why did I believe you?!ā€
Zeus held back a retort, his body crackling with electricity in a vain attempt to expel his anger. He would almost call this situation pitiful, a king driven mad during the tragedies to return home, believing something the god of the skies had never claimed. However, there was clearly something the mad mortal knew that he didnā€™t, things donā€™t add up and Zeus would not be satisfied with letting that be. Plus, if someone was perhaps impersonating king of Olympus himself, oh that wonā€™t do.
ā€œTell me, Odysseusā€¦ What was it that ā€˜Iā€™ had claimed?ā€ Zeus questioned, taking a step closer. He caught the manā€™s wrist with ease when he tried to slap him again, staring down at the crying mortal before him.
ā€œWhat does it matter? You would not remember thisā€¦ā€ Odysseus hissed, his pupils glistening with silver, the power inside him threatening to erupt. ā€œJust like before, and even nowā€¦ Eventually youā€™ll forget all of this.. you and everyone else wonā€™t remember what will happen. Only I- Iā€™m the only one whoā€” damnit! Why did I call you a liar, when you arenā€™t even to blame?ā€
He sobbed, silver streaks split open around his face like the cracks found in old statues on the ends of their use. Those cracks travel around where his tears went down, extending downwards to his neck and free arm. The sand shifts in the violent winds, flowers wilt and grass grows simultaneously at different speeds. To Zeusā€™ horror, he finally recognised who this power really belonged to. ā€œHow did you-ā€œ
He summons a bolt of lightning to strike, but it fizzled away before it could even harm him. Odysseus jerks away, too lost in his grief to notice the danger that had latched onto him.
ā€œCurse me, curse my heart that still loves.ā€ Odysseus choked out, broken and defeated as he raised his sword to his heart. Zeus wants to reach out, to stop whatever heā€™s doing and cease his plans but his body would not respond, left unmovable even with the king of godā€™s best efforts. Odysseus locks eyes with him again, and it finally hit Zeus that there never was any pride to undress and find. Laid bare before him was pure grief; chaotic, erratic and mournful, calling for someone who is no longer there.
ā€œIā€™m sorryā€¦ I donā€™t know what Iā€™m even doing.. Perhaps I am going mad, but it certainly wasnā€™t because of Poseidon.ā€ Odysseus laughed, his smile wobbly as the tip of the blade starts to cut through his clothes. His voice cracks with anguish, only scraping the surface of the true depths to his plight, ā€œI canā€™t do this anymore Zeusā€¦ Iā€™m so tiredā€¦ Iā€™m sorry, youā€™re not a liarā€¦ I just- I missed the Zeus that I loved. And, he canā€™t come backā€¦ā€
ā€œWhat?ā€¦ā€ Zeus could only stare, puzzled and confused as Odysseus gave him a look, one full of unrequited love and lamentation that had struggled to crawl out from the chaotic storm of his emotions. ā€œGoodnight Zeusā€¦ And goodbye.ā€
The last thing Zeus heard was the sound of a clock coming to a halt, the world becoming silent as the grieving king plunged his sword through his heart.
The next time the king of the gods woke up, he continued on his day as though nothing was different. His confrontation with Odysseus, his promise to free him from his cage, all lost to the hands of time with only the king left to mourn the memories of what no longer had occured.

thinking about telemachus recently and how odysseus was gone for like. his entire life. strictly speaking, telemachus wasn't the child of a single parent but he may as well have been. do you think that showed through, when odysseus did finally return home?
certainly, he was always a mama's boy. no one doubted that. he had no one else, after all. there was laertes, and the men around the palace (who harbored a disgust for the horde of suitors that almost rivalled penelope's) and he loved them all dearly, but it was not the same. telemachus grew up loving his mother with all of his heart, and defending her with all his strength.
and then this man comes home, and he has telemachus' smile and he knows things that only telemachus' father would know, but he is a stranger. odysseus arrives home as a creature of myth, the misty stuff of fables that you could almost touch if you reached, but never quite grasp. telemachus does not know this man, but seeing him that day in the throne room is the first time in twenty years that penelope has shed tears of joy instead of pain, so he decides there must be something to him. he smiles at this man's jokes and listens raptly to his stories (and he does have so many stories!) but there is always that distance there. a gap in the planks of the bridge, a crevasse that's just too wide to jump across. he tries to know him, but it is not as easy as either of them would like it to be.
it is penelope that finally bridges the gap. telemachus finds her in tears again one day, tucked away somewhere odysseus would not see, and he rushes to his mother's side, but when he reaches her she cups his face the way she did when he was a boy. her hands are thinner now than they were then, and there are lines on her face that had not been there before, but behind the glimmer of tears is that spark. that strong, intelligent spark that first drew odysseus to her; that spark that convinced young telemachus that his mother could rival athena in wisdom if she wished to be so bold.
but these tears, he finds, are not the ones he expected. as penelope takes her son into her arms she whispers, you're just like him. you're so much like your father, and i am so proud.
and that sticks.
telemachus meets the stranger with his father's face and thinks, he's just like me. he watches him laugh the way he himself does, he compares his face and odysseus' in a mirror and the similarities make him smile this time. he hears others in the palace tell of the king's courage and his wit and he thinks, perhaps i can be like him. perhaps he is like me.
telemachus greets odysseus that night and calls him father, and for the first time, the word does not feel strange on his tongue.
it feels right.

hdhahdhajfbajdnaudb Okay having Thoughtsā„¢ļø about some of these ā€˜Odysseus raises Astyanaxā€™ fics. Because. Because if weā€™re talking about the full odyssey experience. If Astyanax were to survive. He would have spent 11 years of his life growing up with Odysseus as his father. Now, to the main area of thought - Telemachus. Imagine. Imagine being a child, hearing of your father only in stories. From your mother, the servants, your grandparents. Seeing your grandmother succumb to her grief, seeing your mother grow sadder by the day, more sullen, seeing your grandfather withdraw into himself, all because of your father.
The man you are told you look like, the man who left for war, six, eight, eleven, fifteen, TWENTY years ago, left your home in disrepair, left your mother and you to deal with suitors disrespecting your house and name, the man who you are so angry at, yet Also worship as a god, because you donā€™t have a CHOICE. You canā€™t love him, you donā€™t KNOW him, but you love him in the way you love your gods - distant, unknowable, unreachable, and yet you have his face, your mother sometimes gates at you with these sad, sad eyes and you know sheā€™s not really seeing you when she tells you she loves you.
You know he is a man, logically, how could he not be when your mother still remembers every calous on his hands and your grandfather tells you of how he almost set his room on fire one day, but he is only a legend to you. You hear other Kings, Kings from the same war your father left for (they came back, they are already back and he is still gone) discussing him, you hear how he helped end the war with your and your motherā€™s name on his lips and YET! Heā€™s not here, heā€™s not here but he canā€™t be dead, because everyone agrees that he is too stubborn to die.
And then. He is back. And he has a boy with him. A boy who is younger than you, still just a child. And he regards the boy as his own, introduces him to you as ā€˜your brotherā€™. He hasnā€™t dishonoured your mother, he took the child from the burning city of Troy because he is merciful and kind and you see it in the way the boy hugs him and calls him papa. And you should be happy, your father is back, you have a sibling now, your mother finally smiles properly again, your grandfather no longer cries when he sees you.
But. This boy. The boy your father brought from Troy. He got all that you have ever wanted: he got your father, from the moment he was Born he got your father, he was there for his first steps, his first words, he taught him how to sail, fight, read, count, he has been there with him through it all and you have never wanted anything more. ā€˜This child is not his sonā€™ says that hateful, angry voice in your head.
You spend time with your father. He weeps, hugs you. Tells you heā€™s proud of the man you are now. Teaches you how to rule, it is your birthright, he says. He goes hunting with you and tells you he loves you and that the thought of you and your mother got him through many a peril. You spend time with your brother, you make him laugh, he loves you, clings to you just as much as he clings to your father, you teach him more about Ithaca, the way it is now, because heā€™s only heard stories. And still, in the back of your mind, you know you hate the child. You despise him with every fiber of your heart even if your mind knows he is not to blame - and that he has dealt with the same thing, just opposite to you.
Whereas you had a home, your mother and the rest of your family, but yearned for more than just the memory of your father, wanted for freedom, the boy had him, in the flesh, soothing his nightmares and teaching him to live, had the open sea and the deck of a ship, the capability to go anywhere, he lacked the stability that you had and despised. He didnā€™t know his grandfathers, would never get to know his grandmother, only had a memory of a mother and a brother, saw them as saints, as a reason to keep pushing forth.
You are opossites. You donā€™t know how it happened, as the child is not hers, but your brother looks like your mother where you are clearly your fatherā€™s son, yet your personalities seem to have been switched. Youā€™re calmer, much more subdued, you donā€™t smile easily and are weaker of will. Your brother is loud and boisterous, quick to crack a grin and so, so Brave.
You still get the compulsion to bow to your father whenever he enters a room, to touch him to make sure he is real, at times. He sometimes wakes screaming, seeing horrors that you could not imagine in his sleep and doesnā€™t feel comfortable in a proper bed for years. He sets the curtains on fire and your father laughs in relief and he holds him to his chest. Your own chest cleaves in two.
Just. Is this anything?

You're not looking for a mentor, I'm not looking for a friend.

do you ever think that the ending of six hundred strike, actually added to the poseidon & athena beef? like i can just imagine them both in beds in apollo's olympus infirmary, just arguing with/at each other! meanwhile poor apollo is just tying to heal them both.
athena: *ranting* i've been odysseus' mentor/friend since he was a teenager! and he still didn't listen to me!
athena: i told him to put his emotions aside but noooooo, he had to let the cyclops live!
apollo: athen-
poseidon: are you forgetting he literally stabbed me? repeateDLY? WITH MY OWN TRIDENT?
apollo: poseid-
athena: *ignoring poseidon and continuing her rant* ruTHlesNEsS iS meRCy UpOn OUrseLVEs. isn't that what you said?!
poseidon: well yeah, BUT HOW WAS I TO EXPECT THAT SAD WET CAT OF A MAN WOULD BE FILLED WITH SOME FORM OF DIVINE RAGE?
apollo: please you two are gonna open your stitche-
athena: oh you deserved it. you literally showed the man his island before trapping him AND THEN you started THREATENING his wife and son? oh that was your final mistake.
poseidon: whatever! so much for you calling him a warrior of the mind. he's a monster!
athena: *wipes tear away* i know, im so proud.
apollo: *tired of their bickering & now glowing in anger* please for "dad's"sake will you two just shut up and let me heal you both?!

Since Hermes is essentially the god of tricks/wit, and Ody is his descendant, I just love the idea of him watching parts of Odysseus' journey and excitedly pointing and slapping the god or goddess next to him, like "DID YOU SEE THAT!?"
Think about it: Odysseus literally sacking Troy by hiding in a giant horse; bluffing so well that Athena- goddess of wisdom- falls for it; drugging Polyphemus with lotus wine (Hermes would be proud).
You can't convince me that Hermes wasn't somewhere eating popcorn during "Ruthlessness" and that when Ody opens the mother f-ing wind bag like a cocky little sh!t, Hermes didn't burst out laughing and start applauding.
He fluttered down to Uncle Poseidon after that, like, "Ohoho! My darling little grand-baby just schooled you!"

The thing about Odysseus is that he was so proud to be able to take all six hundred of his men through a horrific war and survive. And then he lets a cyclops live and he gets into the underworld and one of the first things he hears is the souls of his dead crew accusing him "558 men who died under your command". The baby he killed.
and then Polities shows up. telling him to lead from the heart because that's what he's been trying to tell Odysseus for so long. All of his regrets, all in one place to torment him
im not okay about this
