books I read in 2023
I read 240 books in 2023, which is lower than my total books read than the past few years. But it'd be ridiculous to be bothered by it because, hey, I still read 240 books!
I set myself a goal of trying to read more out of my comfort zone this year. I wanted to read 30 non-romance books, 25 physical books, and 10 non-fiction books. By the end of the year, I'd read a total of 54 non-romance books, 62 physical books, and 27 non-fiction books. I'm hoping to continue in this vein in 2024.
Other stats - for fun -
My most-read author was Cassie Mint
I gave out 32 5* ratings
My most-read genre was (of course) romance, 120 of which were contemporary
I owned most of the books I read
I read the most books in June, with 34 books read, followed by August, with 25 books read
My most read trope was forced proximity, followed by hate-to-love
So, below is a list of the books I read this year. Rereads are italicised, favourite reads are in bold.

When Batfamily is written as a non-nuclear family it is really fun but the sad thing is people try to avoid that in canon (and fanon). For instance, a key example of non-nuclear Batfamily being is Babs and Bruce being Cass' mother and father respectively whilst being platonic colleagues, and fandom is often afraid to do even acknowledge that. People like Helena and Azrael who are members of the batfamily but in no way fall into the traditional family roles are just ignored entirely (or for Helena reduced to exclusively a bird of prey, ignoring her relationships with Dick and especially Tim). People even are weird about the fact that Steph is emotionally Damian's big sister despite not being anyone else's sister, or Bruce's kid. Adoption and fostering can create a non-nuclear dynamic, but most aspects which explore its nuances (Duke and his living but Joker-ified parents, and the fact Bruce is exclusively a mentor to him rather than immediately falling into a father-son dynamic) are neglected. The Batfamily is not a non-nuclear family when it is just Bruce having an uncomplicated father-child relationship with Dick, Jason, Tim, Cass and Damian.
Also a fun example of a DC family that's still allowed to be delightfully non traditional and complex (and I haven't seen as big a fanonisation of) is the flashfam. Like Jay Garrick is the grandfather of the group as well as a mentor, but he has no biological or legal connection to anyone else. Bart is Barry's future grandchild back in time who's being raised by a combination of Max Mercury and the Garricks. Wally grew up with his neglectful/abusive parents but emotionally saw his Uncle Barry and Aunt Iris as more important nurturing figures. Johnny and Jesse Quick just kind of there as an adjacent speedster family. Then there's reformed rogue Hartley Rathaway as the emotional support communist Uncle of the West-Park kids, and Wally's best friend.
And that isn't to get into how DC (and DC fans) hate acknowledging the ambiguity of Kon-el or Donna Troy or numerous other character's family situations.
i really don't mean to sound like a dick, but the more i see people trying to talk about "nuclear/traditional families" vs "non-traditional/chosen families," the more it really seems like a lot of people have absolutely no idea what the hell they're talking about or what these "chosen families" that defy the traditional family structure they claim to like so much even really look like
sorry, but "what if there was no mom" is not some crazy, groundbreaking unconventional dynamic. yes, the dictionary definition of a nuclear family is "het couple + kids," but also it's not 1956 anymore. single parent families are basically just nuclear family lite at this point. there's really nothing all that mold-breaking about an only-technically-non-nuclear-family where the only real difference is that you deleted the woman lol
#flashfam#batfam#Cassandra Cain#jay garrick#Jesse quick#max mercury#Bart Allen#Hartley rathaway#iris west#kon el kent#donna troy#Wally west#Barry allen#dc comics#sorry for adding this rant#but I feel like more could be done with the dc families as non traditional families#but the current batfam (as seen in fandom and wfa) isn't it

do you have any other headcanons about your rogue!iris verse?
so the rogues know exactly where the flash’s base is (because like, barry you’re not subtle) but the particle accelerator explosion killed all the plants in the area, which is why iris doesn’t know who he is
cisco having vibe powers means that he eventually realises the flash’s secret identity. he doesn’t tell the other rogues, because they all agreed pretty early on that secret identities should remain secret if at all possible (though he does tell them that he knows who he is), and he would never out barry, but he isn’t above manipulating him if it protects his friends, so he ends up convincing barry to agree to a similar deal that e-1 snart hadbarry: okay, so i’ll still try to stop your crimes but i won’t try to arrest any of you, but in return........ you can’t kill peoplecisco: yes that was definitely a thing we used to do it will be such a hardship to give it up oh no flash i guess you outsmarted me ;)barry: did you just say wink emoticon
obviously cisco can’t be team flash’s suit guy and whenever he ends up in the field the fights against the flash are a good half as long as usual because of all the time he spends insulting his suit. every now and again he leaves packages outside of the police station, all addressed to the flash, and they’ve got like sketches and pieces of fabric and small models of tech inside, because the flash’s equipment is just so bad it’s actually hurting his eyes okay
harry sends the packages back with corrections and insults and barry always apologises when he gives them to cisco
rip hunter never even tries recruiting any of them, because there’s no way in hell iris would leave wally, and caitlin’s and cisco’s abilities are too unstable for an enclosed space like the waverider, and i’ve got a very vivid mental image of linda park just like laughing in his face? so instead, rip recruits hartley hathaway and helena bertinelli, which was honestly such a bad idea. rip why
so cisco gets really drunk at kendra’s going away party and spends ~1hr trying to get thea queen to join the rogues, and honestly, she’s pretty tempted? because things have been tense since ollie came back to the team and she’s struggling with after-effects from the pit and also cisco tells her that she’s the only non-meta he’d consider asking (which is true because this laurel’s a meta) and that he’s already sketched her out a costume
also at that party, caitlin snow standing in the corner wondering whether to murder oliver queen, because she’s bored and he’s just got one of those faces you knowiris: we don’t kill people? that’s not a thing we do?cait: is that your only excuse because if it is then it’s a little weaknyssa: you can’t kill him because one day i’m going tocait: see now that’s a good excuse
the rogues and team flash spend like, three months competing over dinah drake, because she’s a morally grey meta who hurts bad guys and saves innocents, and then team arrow just swoops in and gets her. the audacity
cait: now can i kill himiris: ...no
at the next superhero meet-up the rogues and team flash are all like hey girl!!!! such a shame you chose to go with team arrow instead of us!!!! but don’t worry we’re totally cool with it!!!! not hurt at all!!!! and dinah’s like who are you people i’ve never seen any of you before in my entire life
the main reason it’s so hard for team flash to successfully stop the rogues is because they literally don’t plan anything. 90% of their mo is just one of them being like hey do you remember that cool exhibit at the museum?? let’s go steal it or i heard that these rich people are douchebags so let’s rob them. and it’s so irritating for harry because they have no system whatsoever??? why can’t they act like normal criminals dammnit
so one day iris is at work and this guy comes running in. he’s soaking wet and isn't carrying a wallet, but he's so apologetic about it that iris decides to buy his coffee for him. just this once she says, and he agrees, with a grateful laugh. his name’s barry allen, and he’s kinda cute, in a dorky way. very clumsy though, and prone to sticking his foot in his mouth. he probably won’t last another month in this new version of central, but iris figures there’s no harm in flirting back
#asks#rogue!iris#iris west#cisco ramon#caitlin snow#barry allen#flash#rip ends up recruiting helena and hartley in like all of my alt versions of the legends and it always turns out badly#i haven't thought about this au for a while but i love it a lot#the rogues here are probably a bit nicer than the series' ones#bc i'm pretty sure that if iris west was a straight up supervillain then barry allen would be /dead/#arrowverse

How Zulo Can You Go?
by Thomas the Tame
Original post on FictionMania
Note: This is without a doubt one of my favorite TF scenes of all time. I thought it lost for years until someone helped figure out that it's a "Medallion of Zulo" story from fictionmania.tv!
I'm reposting my favorite section here with some minor edits for Tumblr. The full story contains gender-swapping, but this part focuses on mostly consensual age-regression.
The door whipped open from the inside, pulling the keys from Chris's hands. He smiled to greet his wife, but was stopped cold by an unfamiliar face.
"Hello. You must be Mrs. Hartley's husband."
She was young, very young, too young, too damn young to be so pretty, with that pert cheerleader nose, and blonde hair that hung loose over her shoulders, around her face, and only seemed to find sexier and sexier ways of messing up itself. His next glance--done before he could help himself- -shot straight down her tank top. Oh god, creamy white breasts, small and perky, nipples as upturned as that sorority girl nose of hers. Who was she and how could he get rid of her before his dick jumped out of his pants and into her--
"Where's, uh, my wife?"
The girl backed away. It didn't help. Her tank top was short, and her smooth white belly peeked out and winked at him. He swore that little "inney" of hers was teasing him. Everything about this girl was a tease; she couldn't help herself; her body seemed designed for it. Her bra was black he noticed; the straps were not very well concealed. The sprinkles of freckles that ran up and down her arms (like sensual constellations) made him lose track of his thoughts.
" . . . back in a few hours. She said I could hang out here until she got back. That's okay . . . isn't it?"
"Uh, yeah, I guess so." He dug in his pocket for his cell phone and dialed Marissa.
The girl crept closer, her small hand pushing down his wrist to view the phone screen. "How come you're calling her?"
"I want to know why her car is still here."
"Her friend Helena drove."
He left a short message on Marissa's voice mail, hung up, and eyed the girl. "What was your name again?"
"I didn't say," she grinned. Her eyes twinkled. Her nose crinkled. She looked like a little devil. He could imagine . . . well . . . .
"What is your name?"
His stern tone made her flinch. Her grin fell away. She wore the expression of an admonished child. Her eyes flitted up into his, noticed the disapproval, and flitted down. "Sandy."
"Well, fine, Sandy. You can stay and watch TV or whatever you like, but I have some work to do upstairs."
"Okay."
Manipulative little--what was she thinking? He had to get a hold on himself. She was just a kid. Maybe she knew the effect she was having on him and maybe she didn't. Maybe she was doing it on purpose and maybe she wasn't. She reminded him of Sarah, his first crush, cheerleader, bouncy, sexy, and wanting nothing to do with a little twerp like him.
He was none too happy with Marissa either, leaving some teenage girl alone with him in the house.
He was halfway up the stairs before Sandy called out to him. And it was "Chris!" not "Mr. Hartley!"
He turned and chastised her. "Excuse me?"
"Your wife left this for you. She said it was urgent."
He took the envelope from her and started to tear it open, but she was still standing there, a step below, peering up at him, her large soulful eyes twinkling like an eager puppy. Was it his imagination or was there just the hint of a smirk on those glossy pink lips of hers?
God, her whole face, her whole body, had that healthy, vibrant flushed glow. So young. So very, very young.
"Something else?" he asked.
She slipped up beside him, uncomfortably close, gazed up at him. "I wanted to apologize. I shouldn't have just jumped out at you like that at the door. I just didn't want you to come in and, y'know, be startled that some strange girl was in your house."
His heart was like a clutching fist in his chest. His throat felt thick, his face warm, knees weak. He knew he should back away, but the part of him that wanted her won out.
"That's okay. I'm sure you didn't mean it."
She wrapped her thin freckled arms around him. He timidly patted her back. She snuggled closer, squirming deliciously. He could feel her erect nipples through her bra, through her thin shirt, through his dress shirt and undershirt, rubbing against his abdomen. He hoped it was his imagination.
She lifted her chin as if expecting a kiss, and locked eyes with him.
He swallowed, felt his breath go shallow, felt the terrible, wonderful, aching hardness of his erection stretching, and slowly, so slowly it killed him, unwound her arms.
Without a word, he went upstairs, flustered, more angry at Marissa than ever. And angry at himself, at his dick for responding, at God for designing him that way, at Sandy for--for--for being so confused and for tempting him.
He ripped open the letter, thinking, This better be good.
There was an electric jolt that he put down to static shock, then the medallion began to warm his hand. He stared at it, dumbfounded. This was just bizarre. And he was in no mood either, but it was interesting, fake, of course, by the feel of it. How could Marissa think it was anything of value?
It wasn't plastic, but it wasn't stone or metal or wood either. He couldn't quite identify it. One side was worn almost smooth, and he could just make out some writing. At first he thought it was runes, but then it appeared to be Arabic, then again, hieroglyphics. Hell, it could've been a parade of ducks for all he could tell.
His whole arm was warm now. He moved from the bathroom to the bedroom, and blamed the skylight. There was a strange ticklish-tingly feeling too. He scratched his arm idly, thinking offhand that his skin felt too smooth.
On the other side of the coin he spotted Lady Liberty. No, but close, some sort of figure, female he thought. She was holding something, not a torch though. It was, perhaps, a wand, and there was the slightest impression of wings, but they were almost entirely worn away.
He scratched his arm again. The warmth had spread to his shoulder, to his neck, and was unkinking a bothersome muscle. One cheek was growing hot. He touched it. By this time in the evening there was usually some stubble.
Then he saw his arm.
It was thin and hairless. It was the arm of a teenager, not a grown man. He gasped, dropped the medallion, and backed into someone. He turned and saw Sandy.
"Don't worry. It's reversible. It takes twelve hours though." The rules were coming to her. With every contact, she seemed to understand more about how it worked.
"I thought I told you to stay downstairs."
"Chris, relax--"
"Don't tell me--"
"It's me. Marissa."
"I want you gone. Do you understand?"
"Chris--"
"Gone. Call your parents. I want you out of my house, young lady."
"Ooh," Sandy gasped and pressed a hand against her chest. She touched her blushing cheeks, felt her hot forehead, felt the shame coursing through her. "God, when you use that tone--" She laughed.
"I'm not kidding."
"I know. I know you're not. But just relax. Okay? The medallion is magic or something. I don't know how, but it can change you."
"I'm calling my wife." He found his suit jacket on the bed and dug the cell phone from his pocket.
Sandy launched into a long list of facts that only Marissa could've known.
Chris stared at her. "That doesn't mean anything."
"Look at your hand, teddy bear."
Everything about the way she said it sounded like his wife, but it wasn't. Still, his arm, his hand...
She found the medallion on the bed, held it by its chain, and dropped it into his hand. "Just hold it for a bit and you'll see."
There was that electric shock again, followed by the hot creepy-crawlies. His skin itched a little, but not unbearably. The heat sank deeper, and he actually saw his other hand changing, growing smaller. He started to throw the medallion away, but Sandy wrapped her hand around his. She whispered, "It doesn't hurt. You'll see. And you'll be amazed. It's incredible. Look at me, teddy bear. See? Now you can have your fantasy. Don't you remember telling me how much you wanted to be with that cheerleader? Well, now you can be eighteen again, and I'll be her. I even have a uniform, pom-poms and all, and we can rewrite history for you, and fulfill our deepest fantasies."
"I can't believe it," Chris's small voice gasped.
"I found that old baseball cap of yours in the attic," Marissa explained. "Now you look exactly like you did when you were eighteen."
"This is . . . unbelievable."
He stared at the medallion again, almost laughing. "Where-"
"It doesn't matter."
"But are you sure it's safe?" he worried.
She wanted to kiss him, but restrained herself. "Wait here. I'm going to change."
"Change?"
"Yes."
"What do you mean?"
She couldn't help it. She launched herself into his eighteen year-old arms, feeling every bit of her teen year old body wriggling against him. She planted a kiss on his mouth, pressed it deeper until his lips parted and their tongues met. His arms encircled her, squeezing her almost to breathlessness. Gently, with a mind of their own, his hands began to fall.
She pulled away, wet lips smirking. She gave him another quick, hot kiss. He lunged at her, but she pushed him away.
"Nuh-uh! You have to wait."
"What? Why? I mean, what in the hell is going on?"
She scampered away.
He turned to the mirror and felt an erection like he hadn't felt in years. God, it was rock hard. And it was alive and incredibly sensitive. It was like it had never been touched before. Jesus, he was probably a virgin, sort of, maybe. Could you be a virgin again? Could she?
When she bounced back into the room again, she went into a cartwheel and ended with a slow descent into a split. God, just the sight of her, the blue and white pleats of her skirt draped over her white thighs, her hair in a messy ponytail, dirty blonde strands in her eyes, cheeks flushed with exertion. She was white and pink and pert and perfect and teasing him mercilessly.
Her lips glistened with gloss. She'd framed her eyes with black mascara and softened and enlarged them with dark brown eye shadow. Her blonde eyebrows were plucked and highlighted with a luminous gold. Was it his imagination or had she even sprinkled glitter on her cheeks?
She got to her feet and bounced--breasts up when she was down, down when she was up--ponytail bobbing, tossing her pom-poms around, banging them together with whispery crashes, swish, swish, swish-swish-swish. "Hey . . . okay . . . " She whipped her head to the side, thrust out a hip and pointed at him, leveling him with her eyes. "I want your dick today!"
He laughed and glanced down at the tent in his oversized pants. They fell away easily and his penis flipped up and pointed directly at her.
"Yo . . . your pole . . . " She spread her legs and leaned over to give him a good shot down her uniform blouse. "I want it in my--Home is where the heart is! Your hard-on's in your pants! I can tell you want me, but I want to see it dance!"
He rushed her. His eighteen year old body couldn't stand it anymore. He had to have her . . . right now.

Rules: List the first lines of your last 20 stories (if you have less than 20, just list them all!). See if there are any patterns. Choose your favourite opening line.
Thanks for tagging me on this @holycafe :D
Open Hearted - Barry remembers the dark and the silence and the emptiness that stretched on for what felt like an eternity.
A Place to Call Home - Star City has a Jitters now.
Unexpected - After the disastrous double date with Oliver and Helena - a mobster's daughter, Ollie? Really? - Tommy managed to mend things with Laurel pretty quickly.
Busman's Holiday - Brianna never talked to her sisters about it, but in the night she could hear the stars sing.
Mothers and Sons - Moira smiled up at Tommy as he joined her at the café.
Lateral Aggression - Caitlin wakes up in the morning and rolls over but... her bed is empty.
Reconstruction - Kendra is eight the first time she dreams of flying.
Sports Fan - So the thing was, Eobard did actually get a sports wheelchair.
A Thousand Miles (Just To Be With You) - Caitlin wakes up on Valentine's Day morning alone.
A Dozen Roses - It's a long day and Cisco's exhausted.
A Weekend in Central - The CCPD station Barry works at looks very different from the SCPD station Oliver's familiar with.
Not Like You - Tommy stays after everyone else leaves.
Homemade is Fine (Probably) - "What are you doing?"
Touch the Sky - The first time Lena kissed Kara, she felt like she could fly all on her own.
Mending a Heart - Barry struggles to express his feelings sometimes.
Frame of Mind - Hartley woke up to the sound of his phone ringing.
Christmas in July - Hartley had been, to some degree anyway, avoiding Joe and Iris West.
Happiness (Is Not a Fish You Can Catch) - Chester still remembers vividly how giddy he felt waking up next to Allegra.
The Banana Aesthetic - Barry knew he was wearing the yellow Reverse Flash suit.
A Beautiful Feeling - Lisa stretched her arms as she sat up.
All written this year and it's only March. I... write a lot, don't I?
Anyway... what patterns do I see?
A lot of short sentences for the opening line. Only one is a spoken line, because I tend to prefer to establish the setting or the tone of the story first. (Poor Caitlin wakes up alone when she'd rather not twice. Sorry, Caitlin.)
Even my more lighthearted stories tend to start with a serious feel to them. Christmas in July begins with Hartley facing his fears related to the Wests before moving on to the found family feels of Jerrie throwing him a belated birthday party/new apartment warming party. A Weekend in Central has Oliver navigating the CCPD to find Barry after arriving for their weekend long date early. Sports fan starts with Eobard musing on his private embarrassment regarding his his disability and the sports wheelchair before moving on to Hartley having a fun day playing basketball with Iris and Eddie.
A lot of my characters struggle with experiencing loneliness or finding happiness, which echoes in a lot of these opening lines too. Tommy's facing his father alone, Chester recalls a moment of happiness that's lost to him when Allegra ghosts him later, Barry's dealing with the intense loneliness of being trapped in the speedforce prison, Cisco goes home alone after a long day at work, Hartley wakes up alone, and poor Caitlin keeps waking up alone too. But in all these cases, that loneliness gets addressed in the story and the characters all wind up taking steps towards finding their happiness. Tommy leaves his father behind in favor of making Laurel (and everyone else who loves him) proud, Chester and Ryan reaffirm their relationship in the face of amatonormativity, Barry finds solace in both his current relationship with Iris and his budding feelings for Julian, Cisco opens himself up to a new relationship with Hartley, Hartley faces both his past and an idealized concept of the present in order to find strength and hope for the future, and Caitlin is either greeted by the person she most wants to see or finds strength in her friendships past and present depending on which story we're talking about.
I think if I added in last lines here, there'd be a trend towards opening with serious lines and ending on a hopeful note. I like happy endings, even for characters who mess up. That's what second chances are for, right?
I'm tagging @fezwearingjellybananas @rebelcaptain-badasspilot @purpleyin @sophiainspace and anyone else who might be interested in doing this game

The parents of the Flash Rogues, characters at varying levels of canonicity.
Farthest to the right in the top picture are Reginald Norton Dillon and Rosa Nicole Dillon, the parents of the Top (Roscoe Dillon). Reginald is a banker; Rosa is a housewife. They’re quite well-off financially. I came up with the names and backstories here.
Next to them are Larry/Lewis and Shirley Snart, the parents of Captain Cold and the Golden Glider. Larry used to be a corrupt cop; now he spends basically all of his time drinking and/or abusing whatever relatives are within reach. Shirley ran away from him when their kids were five years old; sadly, life hasn’t been much better to her since. Both of them are basically canon (Shirley’s name is semi-canonical), though I’ve extrapolated some of the expanded stuff.
The two on the left of the topmost picture are Matias and Paloma Mardon, the parents of the Weather Wizard (Mark Mardon) and Clyde Mardon (Mark’s older brother, now deceased). They immigrated from Guatemala when their children were toddlers and now work as a high school geography teacher (Matias) and a librarian (Paloma). They favored Clyde over Mark due to the fact that the former was better than the latter at almost everything. Neither has ever fully shaken their accent despite their efforts. I came up with the names and most of the backstory here. Mark’s family being from Guatemala is from th New 52/Rebirth continuity; the fact that Mark’s mother, at least, favored Clyde over him is also basically canon.
On the far left of the second picture is Martha Scudder, the mother of Sam Scudder, the first Mirror Master. She’s the widow of Percival Scudder (who died when Sam was seven months old), and she works as a seamstress for the Rathaways. She’s not well-off financially and has been living on what is colloquially known as “Skid Row” since her husband’s death. She was a good mother to Sam and was devastated when he turned to crime. I came up with her name and backstory, since we know very, very little about Sam’s past.
Next to Martha are Helena and Alessandro Giuseppi (alias Helen and Alexander Jesse), the parents of Giovanni Giuseppi, alias James Jesse, alias the Trickster. They’re tight rope walkers and acrobats in the circus, and they’re both very fond of their only son, even if they wish he would return to the circus with them. They’re the children of immigrants from Italy; as such, they are fluent in Italian. The names and backstory here are broadly canon (though I had to come up with the dad’s name). Also, for some reason, James’ dad has the same hairstyle and mustache as Abra Kadabra (I toned it down a bit here, but in his first appearance, he looks exactly like Kadabra).
Next to them is Miss Eva McCulloch, who runs the orphanage where Evan McCulloch, the second Mirror Master, grew up. She’s an incredibly kind woman who worked hard to be a mother to all the children there. She lives in Kirkcaldy, Scotland. Everything here is canon except her first name, which I made up.
Next to her are Osgood and Rachel Rathaway, the parents of Hartley Rathaway (the Pied Piper) and Geraldine “Jerrie” Rathaway. They’re extremely wealthy publishing magnates who are cold, distant, and demanding around their children. All of this is canon.
The third picture is composed solely of the relatives of the first Captain Boomerang, George “Digger” Harkness. On the far left is his mother, Betty Harkness. Next to Betty is her husband, Ian Harkness, and next to Ian is W. W. Wiggins. While married to Ian, Betty had an affair with Wiggins that produced Digger. Ian knew Digger wasn’t his son and treated him cruelly; while W.W. Wiggins never acknowledged Digger as his son at all. Next to Wiggins is “Aussie” Green, who was introduced as Digger’s dad in a Bronze Age Flash issue prior to Crisis on Infinite Earths. He was cheery and good-natured, and is the only one of Digger’s three dads who seemed to actually love him. Although if he really was Digger’s dad, shouldn’t his last name have been “Harkness?” “Green” was just an alias Digger used. (Cary Bates probably got a character’s name wrong again.) The couple next to “Aussie” are a pair of criminals whom Digger hired to pretend to be his parents in his first-ever appearance, Flash #117. The woman’s first name was Sally, and she was once an actress. All of the names and backstories are canon.
On the far left of the bottom picture are Alan Walker and his wife Barbie; Axel Walker’s dad and stepmom. Next to them is Alice Strickland, Axel’s mother. Axel’s dad is a wealthy used car salesman who divorced Axel’s mother when Axel was nine. He hired a slick lawyer to ensure that he wouldn’t have to pay to support his ex-wife or son, then proceeded to remarry a woman who was only 12 years older than Axel. Alice, who had been a stay-at-home mother prior to the divorce, was left penniless, and she and Axel were both plunged into near-poverty. Except for the fact that Axel’s parents are divorced, I made all this up.
Next to Axel’s mom are Digger Harkness and Meloni Thawne, the parents of Owen Mercer, the second Captain Boomerang. They met when Captain Boomerang was transported to the future with amnesia and somehow this produced Owen. This is canon, but we know very little about how any of this actually happened.
