Oh, the exquisite pain of falling into a new ship only to discover, as you mosey over to ao3, that not only is the fandom small, but your “surely everyone ships this” ship is actually a rarepair and has next to no fic, certainly nothing that matches the sprawling epics you’re mentally planning (but will never write), and to cap it off, the show went off the air many years ago and almost no one’s writing it anymore. Agony!

as i grow older and age in fandom especially, i have waning patience for 2012 style fandom wars. i don't have time for the type of person who goes "why is this the 2nd top ship on ao3 when it bugs me", i don't have the energy to be friends with people who go "i specifically expressed dislike for this ship and people still write it?" and i have absolutely no time for someone who goes "this very personal trauma i have projected onto this random character and ship should be recognized and agreed by everyone else, otherwise they're bad people"

With all the excitement around New Gods (2024) #1, seems like as good a timing as ever to mention this. It's not directly related, but seems like something yall might be interested in!

Recent years should have witnessed an explosion of interest in Jack Kirby and his legacy. Wildly successful films have been released based on Captain America, Thor, X-Men, and The Avengers ... Jack’s creations are more widely known today than they have ever been in their publication history. His original work on these characters continues to be reprinted and spotlighted as the genesis of these multi-million dollar properties, and Jack’s art is reaching thousands of new fans every day So, why is Jack Kirby still a secret?

The Jack Kirby Museum and Research Center, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit cultural and educational organization, has been working for years to collect and digitize his original artwork and related artefacts, and make them available for people to search online. The museum is run by a small group of volunteers with blessings from Jack's family members since mid 2000s. Their goal is not just to preserve the legacy of this singular talented person, but also to educate generations to come about comics and pop culture history. But they need funding to actually make the site.

While you should still read the newest run, JSA (1999) remains one of the best entry points to JSA for modern readers, including the most important thing to for any comic to have: Old Man Yaoi.

Also Brainwave it's where Jay adopts Hank.

It establishes a very nice dynamic for the JSA to have with multiple generations all forming a large family, and Wildcat's feet are out the entire time. And in general: Tumblr users you WILL get into JSA

Year of the OTP is officially back for 2025 with a new set of prompts!

we've switched some of the prompt categories around in an effort to make the event more inclusive of all kinds of fanworks. we've also included song prompts this year! the playlist is on spotify here.

Everyone knows the conspiracy theory by now: Goyer and Robinson intended for Sandy to be a gay man, which is why he seems awkward around shirtless sweaty Carter and shoves Kendra away when she tries to kiss him, AND why Hank appears outlined in the stars of Sandy's 2002 future dream, he was intended to be the boyfriend.
