The federal government unveiled its new dental-care plan on Monday — a $13-billion insurance program that will start covering routine dentistry costs next year for people who meet a certain income threshold.
Ottawa will cover kids under 18 and some seniors first before expanding the program to all eligible low- and middle-income Canadians in 2025.
Applications for seniors aged 87 and over will open later this month. Other age groups will be able to apply in the new year.
The staggered application process is designed to make the rollout as smooth as possible. The government says it expects millions of people to avail themselves of this new component of Canada's social safety net.

United Health Insurance is the absolute worst insurance company. I found out today, one day before the change in coverage, that they had decided on 9/25 to stop covering LPCs, LSWs, ALMFTs, or clinicians working under a supervising psychologist/therapist. That coverage stops tomorrow.
I was not notified by United Health Insurance. Rather, I was notified by my health care provider. They had been notified today as well.
This is all because they want to recoup some of the money they lost in the cyber attacks earlier this year- and they’re doing this by reducing their mental health coverage drastically.
I have to stop my mental health care right now, because the out of pocket rate is not sustainable.

AN OPEN LETTER to THE U.S. HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES
Pass H.R. 6270, the State-Based Universal Health Care Act!
371 so far! Help us get to 500 signers!
I strongly urge the Congressmember to support and help pass H.R. 6270, the State-Based Universal Health Care Act, introduced by Rep. Ro Khanna of California. This bill helps states test universal health plans that could be a model for a national plan - a Universal, Simple, and Affordable (USA) plan. A USA plan will drastically reduce administrative overhead, freeing billions of dollars for our health care and general welfare. With your support, states can save money and provide health care for all their residents. How H.R. 6270 moves us toward health care that is universal, simple, and affordable (USA): Mandates that participating states guarantee healthcare coverage for at least 95% of residents in the first 5 years, thus reducing the uninsured and underinsured populations to less than 5% (currently 30% in most states). Requires any state-based plan to have benefits equal to or greater than those received by beneficiaries of federal healthcare programs. Allows states to cooperate on multi-state plans. Section 1332 of the ACA does not. Enables states to integrate Medicare funds into a state plan. Section 1332 does not. This is critically important for equity. Please work to pass this bill, and then get to work passing Medicare For All. Nothing else will fully solve our healthcare crisis.

Today in USamerican health care is insane
About a month ago I went to the doctor for a checkup. She ordered some labs just to keep an eye on a few things. Some nothing-special tests on a blood draw.
I have health insurance through my employer*, thank god.
Today I got the bill.
Total cost of five tests: $478.80 Adjustments**: $425.79 What I owe: $53.01
I can pay the $53. Not worried about it.
Whenever I receive a bill like this I think about people without health insurance or who are under-insured, meaning they have insurance but can't afford to use it unless things are dire because they can't pay their part of the bill. So they wait until something awful happens and might end up bankrupt anyway.
This system is inhumane and obscene. * Non-USamericans, know that I still have to pay a monthly premium. My employer pays thousands to have a plan for the bunch of us. I couldn't afford this coverage without the money my employer contributes. This is the case for literally millions of USamericans. This is why millions work at jobs they hate or tolerate. ** what the health insurance company has paid

Inexplicably just got two letters from Aetna asking for additional information for prescription drug prior authorization in the state of Florida. Couple of things wrong with that: - the prior authorizations have already been approved - I don’t live in the state of Florida and never have - the information it asks for is information I cannot provide, only my doctor can, and she’s named on the paperwork so they definitely know how to send her the letters - I’m not in Florida???? Why Florida?????
#the person behind the yarn#medical mention#tj is in insurance hell#honestly this one's not that hellish it's just bemusing#absolutely miraculous that filling out surveys saying Aetna's practice of denying coverage of life-saving preventative care could kill peopl#and that I would be actively advocating against Aetna in every arena available to me#ended up with them suddenly changing their minds and covering my inhalers#miracle. Truly as all their employee emails to me say they 'have my best interest at heart'#the second page in the letters that was titled Notice of Nondiscrimination made me laugh out loud#like. Sure. Sure Aetna.#just in case: everything here is based on my personal experiences dealing with Aetna#and is not intended as a factual representation of the company. It's me venting about dealing with health insurance#I do not know what their literal company policies are#only what I have perceived of the company's actions and what policies could lead to those choices

working on some lisa stuff and like. no wonder birdie can't budget or plan easily. how do you plan for this, ESPECIALLY as a single parent, ESPECIALLY as one with a seriously ill kid who might require you to take sudden and unexpected absences
#i know there's full time vs. part time but either way the hours seem inconsistent and a little nuts#full time employment would have gotten him the chance to join the union which DOES have some really good benefits#(part time would too in the modern day but idk about the 90s)#buuuut i can only find modern union contracts not ones from the 80's-90's#and the one i found implied that coverage for dependants was only won after 2018? so the hall boys were NOT included#again i might be wrong i don't have a good head for contract jargon!!!#i can also see birdie being part time at least occasionally because even with PTO he probably wouldn't have the time to take care of joey's#health if he was a full time worker-- even when joey WASN'T in the hospital. when he WAS... hoo boy#you never know how long that's gonna last and this just does not seem like a job with much flexibility or consistency#and ESPECIALLY especially when the boys were really young and maybe weren't both in school yet#sorry here's a glimpse of what like 20% of fic writing looks for me. btw#the amount of stuff i have researched about colorado custody agreements and victorian ableism for my two current fics is a lil absurd#also this is really hard to research because all the articles i get are like 'can my employer dock my pay?'#like no i'm looking for infor about DOCK WORKERS not DOCKING WORKERS

A few weeks ago my 8 month old took a tumble down 9 wooden stairs landing on the cement basement floor. He’s ok, but this resulted in a call to 911, an ambulance ride to the hospital, and 6 hours of monitoring to make sure he didn’t have a brain bleed.
I live in Canada and today I got the bill for that.
I can’t imagine what I’d be looking at if I lived in the US.

Hey guys!
Friendly reminder that the Affordable Care Act marketplace assistance isn't actually very helpful.
The "subsidy" is just an advance on your tax refund. That means that if you make less than expected, you have to pay the difference.
The less you make, the more you pay. The more you need help, the less you get.
It's actually just another program that says fuck poor people.
Thanks for coming to my bed talk.
