EXPLODES
#and it ties in with an underlying current i am sensing#them + ivan are all around the same age but from different countries-- japan uran (USSR) and star (USA)#they /should/ relate to and confide in each other but rock and ivan have tension bc of their nationalities#politics ruining potential friendships 😔#well see how this is expanded once kenichi catches up to them

people will say "why cant the eldritch gods just be nice to humans :((" and then kill a bug for existing near them
#FUSHIGI NA SHOUNEN!!!!!#the fourth dimension girlies are like the equivalent of hobbyist entomologists. bug enthusiasts for the fun of it#sabutan is just a bug that wandered in from outside and they're all now fascinated by him and let him wander around#and also a couple humans get teleported across time and space in the midst. dont worry about it

there's no better feeling than writing something tzk related and being able to cite manga you physically own. feeling like a goddamn scholar over here

HE CAN'T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS
Sabutan is turned Two-Dimensional and has to thwart a plot involving actual time travel? He gets put into a coma by a falling rock which "shocks" him into reverting back to three dimensions, the time travel plot is resolved off screen, AND ALSO he loses his powers because Sure Why Not
(i peeked ahead and it looks like he gains them back really quickly so like. what was the point of that)
one thing about the strange boy is that it REFUSES to think too deeply about the time travel aspect. Tzk's like fuck yall I'm writing 5 manga at once here I don't have time for thought experiments
「時間よとまれ!!!」 only works sometimes with no rhyme or reason? Its because there wouldn't be any conflict if it always worked, idiot! 🙄
Sabutan stops time for the equivalent of 10 years? He doesn't age mentally or physically, he's just stinky because there was no running water 😝
Sabutan gets stuck in a time loop as punishment? He breaks down crying, and then once he starts to experiment, the 4th dimensional girlies stop the loop because they felt bad 🥺

This is not tzk related but
finding out "shotacon" comes from the tetsujin 28 kid blew my mind more than it should have. like huh? That's the guy?
shotaro I am so sorry. You did not deserve that. I know nothing about you but I know you shouldn't have had that happen to you
but now it makes sense why it seems like eastern tzk fandom-- especially for works i like-- is just infested with shotacon. We are dangerously close to patient zero himself

been powering through strange boy because i'd like to finish it before the end of the year, and since I have the ~Color Revise Version~ (which presents it as originally published in Shonen Club), I've been reading it that way
BUT an errant ableist slur made me remember that there are differences between the original Shonen Club version and the 400 works version that most other people read. Let's check for them!
said slur was removed, obviously, along with some other minor paneling and dialogue changes. Can I get an F in the chat for this possible Kenichi cameo that was removed
Left: Shonen Club/"Color Revise Version," Right: Kodansha Complete Manga Works
Is that Kenichi? Has he been slandered? vote now on your phones
but there's a BIG difference I saw that leaves me baffled
The story I'm looking at, "The Run-Down Time Machine Affair" (タイム・マシーンのおんぼろ事件), features a diary from the future: 23 years into the future, to be exact. What year, exactly?
Top: Shonen Club/"Color Revise Version," Bottom: Kodansha Complete Manga Works
1985 changed to 1989.....
WHY?
What's the purpose? They changed the year in all panels and dialogue I looked at, this was calculated!!!
The problem is that Sabutan still says that's 23 years into the future! 1985 - 23 = 1962, which was when Strange Boy was published and therefore then-present day, but 1989 - 23 = 1966, which doesn't line up with anythi--
I FIGURED IT OUT MID POST.
STRANGE BOY HAD A REPRINT IN MANGA KING.
IN 1966.
When Kodansha was compiling for their collection, they DIDN'T use the original Shonen Club version, they used the Manga King version!!!
CASE CLOSED! now I can go back to 2D sabutan shenanigans with a clear head

everyday i imagine sabutan in star system appearances he does not have, and everyday i grow sadder
this is about the temporal earthquake chapter of midnight not leaving my head and wanting to insert sabutan/ichiro in the two brothers' roles rather than just two randos
but that also means sabutan would get fuckin DECAPITATED SOOOOO LMAO
this is also about that one SF mix story-- the 3 eyes in the building (?)-- where our lil protag dude looks VERY similar to sabutan but isn't technically him, so in my head i just make it sabutan anyway.
and if we're messing around like this the long-haired architect guy becomes dr. kiriko >:). (i think long-haired architect guy might be a star system character of his own, but I've never seen him named? i swear he was also in that possessed sword dororo chapter)
