actor au saigou and daisuke are the same person to me a la pinoko toroko. no one ever talks about my guy daisuke but he was literally rock's sidekick in the boy hero era, man. and saigou in flashbacks literally looks similar to daisuke. need this meta connection in my life

semi-top-tier BJ fanfic author posted my favorite fic of theirs on ao3 but i can't comment publicly on it because it's a very dead dove do not eat type of fic 😳
#only semi-top tier because half of their fics are so good they make me cry and the other half gross me out#that's what you get when an author writes hardcore stuff like that lmao

like. The hypothetical post-canon nextworld dynamic of these two is crazy and soooo the opposite of what metropolis 2001 does with them
every time rock acts up or shows any signs of trauma, redonov has to confront that his country did this to rock. he allowed this to happen!
do you think ivan shared any correspondence with his dad before he died? do you think ivan told his dad how poponya was running the factory (aka gulag / forced labor camp)? the very same poponya redonov praised as a bright and talented young woman? redonov likely knew that the factory was a gulag, but as a head of state, it's just a fact of life, so impersonal. but now a tangible result of that is right in front of him: an orphaned teenage boy with severe PTSD that feels he can't trust anyone ever again.
metropolis 2001's "duke red adopts an orphaned rock, likely out of grief for his dead daughter, and even though he is uncaring and abusive, rock tries fruitlessly to be his ideal son and all but deifies him" vs nextworld's "duke red adopts an orphaned rock, likely out of grief for his dead son (as well as atonement for the pain his nation caused), but rock is so traumatized that he's a problem child who startles at any kind of affection"
#also note its not just the uran federation that made rock this way. nation of star also at fault ofc#but because redonov is taking rock in the focus is on his nation rather than rock's own#everyone failed rock. nextworld rock is a tragedy

I was going to add that I have exceptions to my release date rule and point to astro's april 7th birthday, but the first two astro chapters (ambassador atom and astro's parents) actually came out in the april issue of Shonen 🥹
and since i'm also always thinking of him, kenichi's debut day would be january 30th, 1947, the release date of new treasure island
i prefer release date birthdays over "goroawase" birthdays (aka 6/9 rock day 9/6 kuroo day etc etc) so release dates are a lil important to me :)

psst.... i was really busy today so i didn't do anything for it but.... rock might have officially debuted today, 76 years ago......
detective boy rock holmes was regarded as starting around october 1st, 1949, but some places (like the 400 complete works volume and the official tzk website) note that information, such as its end date and the release dates of individual chapters, is incomplete.
but then, later compilations with more info list out those individual chapters, and the chapter 「ニシキヘビの巻」 may have actually been released on march 15th, 1949, a few months earlier!
supposedly, it was published in the Osaka magazine Shonenkai, but the magazine was discontinued and left rock with only one chapter, and that's why the other chapters came out later in a different magazine.
happy birthday....?
#ides of march baby....... fitting#obligatory reminder whenever i bring up detective boy: don't read it. it's bad. i'm here solely for rock history
