I know the comics were never canon, but I thought it was such a charming idea that I HAD to do something with it, you know? It has so much potential. So bittersweet. I love bittersweet things. It's canon to me haha

(There's one more chapter btw. A big, long epilogue set in the future, when Tiger Lily is grown. I wrote the outline eons ago, all I need to do now is write the actual chapter haha. I'll try getting to it after some other stories I need to get started on)

KALLUZEB: AN UP TO DATE REFLECTION

I hope everyone has enjoyed Star Wars Celebration. Be it in person, or online, it’s been great seeing all these amazing cosplays, interviews and announcements for our favourite galaxy far far away.

As some of you may have seen, I have been VERY active over the last few days on the Kalluzeb socials. And with celebration out of the way and Andor Season 2 starting, I thought I’d do a little look back to how my favourite ship got to where it is today and what, with recent revelations, it might mean going forward.

For those who may not know, “Kalluzeb” features the relationship between the Rebellion’s Garazeb Orrelios and the Empire’s Agent Alexsandr Kallus in the animated show “Star Wars Rebels”. Two sworn enemies who spent almost 2 seasons fighting each other. That is until, they both crash land on an ice moon and rely on each other to survive and are finally able to put the traumas of their past behind each other. It was, without question, one of, if not THE most homoerotic pieces of media in all of Star Wars. While it may not have been intentional originally, the vibe and consequential shipping of the two as an enemies to lovers story came about very organically.

In season 3, after the experience on the ice moon, Agent Kallus turns against the Empire and turns Fulcrum spy for the Rebellion, saving the Ghost Crew’s lives several times. He gave up EVERYTHING, risked his life for the rebellion and truly earned his place at the table.

In the fandom, there was a lot of shipping from fans on social media, but what was surprising was that a lot of the shipping developed from the cast and crew from the show itself, which lead to conversations about it at fan conventions and Star Wars Celebration.

By the shows finale at the end of season 4, Kallus helped the Ghost Crew liberate the planet of Lothal. And after the events of the original movie trilogy, Zeb takes Kallus to Lira San, the secret original planet of Zeb’s kind. Kallus then realises he hadn’t destroyed the Lasat. They also welcomed Kallus to their planet as one of their own kind. Both Zeb and Kallus have a seemingly developed a very close and intimate relationship since Lothal’s liberation, to the point where Zeb covers Kallus’s eyes to surprise him and proudly wrapping his warm around him infront of his people. While their relationship was never directly specified, it was left in a neutral “maybe they are, maybe they’re not” position.

That being said, Zeb had given Kallus a new life, a new purpose, a new home, a new family and gave his soul and mind peace.

If that isn’t love, then I don’t know what is.

For a while, that’s all we thought we would see of them.

That is until, we saw the first appearance of Zeb in live action as part of the third season of “The Mandalorian” in 2023. He had a 30 second cameo and seemingly without Kallus. Safe to say, the conversation about the possibility of on screen Kalluzeb was re-ignited.

It’s also worth mentioning that in the credits of the episode in question, Zeb’s (well established) surname was excluded from the credits. This begs the question as to what is the status of his surname post-Rebels.

A few months later, the official Star Wars account released a video promoting the Darth Vader comic series with special anniversary covers of the Rebel’s characters. Agent Kallus was one of the covers and the video had the caption; “His pre-Kalluzeb days.”

This is the first time that Star Wars has used their ship name in official media. Fans (and Steve Blum himself) rejoiced.

That being said, Neither Zeb nor Kallus made an appearance in the first season of “Ahsoka”, the self proclaimed “Rebels Sequel.” Much to fan’s disappointment with Zeb’s name being mentioned only once as “training recruits.”

However, at D23 2024, a teaser trailer for the movie “The Mandalorian and Grogu” was released. And Zeb was revealed to be a part of the movie. Which proved to be VERY exciting for fans as Zeb is now going to be a movie star and finally getting his time to shine.

After that, over the next few months, the Star Wars socials posted things about the boys with very specific wording, using a specific shot of the two at Lira San and even a comment referencing to the boys as a couple.

They could have very easily used the term “best friends” in the post, but it’s the deliberate use of “partners” which is very intriguing.

Most recently, Agent Kallus was recently announced to have a classic action figure coming out in the summer of 2025, proving that Kallus is still on the radar of current Star Wars media.

(And yes, I have already pre-ordered mine.)

Which brings us to Star Wars Celebration 2025 where Lucas Animation unveiled a 20th Anniversary poster featuring all of their characters. In this poster, Zeb can be seen with his arm wrapped around Kallus in the same style as some of the other couples in the franchise. Both of them beaming brightly. Hunter from “The Bad Batch” is under Zeb’s other arm, but they’re not from the same show and anyone who knows “Rebels” knows the significance of the two being together.

Zeb was also announced to be a part of the second season of “Ashoka”. While only a few fan favourite characters have been announced to appear so far, I am hopeful that Kallus will be a surprise for the fans (hopefully Rex will be too).

Overall, when we consider how the Kalluzeb ship began and where it is now with the two characters, fans have hope now more than ever before that we will see the two interact again. While we might not know when or if live action Kallus will appear on screen, fans are still very eager and excited to see him with Zeb again.

While the ship is a gay ship, it is debatable whether or not Star Wars will fully commit to it. However, because of all of the support for it from fans, cast and crew, as well as all of the reasons l have listed up above, I choose to remain optimistic that we will see both Zeb and Kallus together on screen again. In my eyes, as well as many other fans eyes, they are as good as canon at this point.

Only time will tell as 2026 comes around and we enter what I am personal referring to as;

“The year of Kalluzeb.”

tim used to be my fav robin a long time ago but I've started to understand why so many ppl don't like him

he was an okay character in the 90s/2000s but now with all of the other characters that have been added to the batfam he just brings so little to the table. he pales in comparison and has just become white guy with blue eyes number 738393. everything that stood out about him can be found in other characters, in the other robins, but better (big brother-little brother with dick&damian, solo robin adventures with damian, detective robin with maps, timsteph with daminika, family outside of the bats with damian or maps, etc).

it's so bad that in adaptations he's the most likely to be omitted (and can we blame dc?). steph is omitted as a robin more than him but in her case it's misogyny; what's tim's excuse?

he contributed to some important aspects of modern robin but those aspects are far better utilized by other robins. and I think steph is better off as a cass cain cast character bc, although dc is misogynistic and racist, cass has far better longevity than tim as a character and I think she has so many great things to achieve. so steph becoming part of her cast is a far better option for her popularity + perhaps steph could have her own solo stuff in the future bc she also is more interesting than tim. steph even has her own hero alias as spoiler which is already far more than tim has done post-robin. I frankly can't blame dc for not knowing what to do with him bc there's not much to work with and he doesn't stand on his own as a character

I actually had a lot of difficulty liking Tim or getting started on Tim at first because of this but the Old Media Lover brain took over. I think, yeah, it’s super doomy to think about the future of Tim drake and I have pondered what could be done about him and whether they’ll let him move on.

I really do think the power of being a fan is being able to take the character you loved before and simply create a universe for them where they have that future that you want for them. My friend and I have discussed a potential future for Tim that we really like and it honestly involves an aspect that other people probably won’t like- leaving gotham and leaving the “batfamily”. It’s one of my secret projects.

I guess once you realize that you don’t have to wait for DC to give your favorite character a better ending, you can just write it or draw it, it’s easy to stay a lot more optimistic.

Because when you say this for Tim drake, it’s hard to not say the same thing for Batman- the incapability to move on. For Batman, it’s part of the charm, but you realize gotham will never heal, Batman will never heal, or else the story will change. That’s the consequences of being a story that must go on. Once you think about that, it all gets very depressing because you realize eventually characters have to regress or stagnate because they are a product.

My point is, as a fan even though these are valid criticisms, I don’t believe you have to lose interest in characters if you truly don’t want to. A company doesn’t have control over your imagination. You can fix him. You can give him what he needs. It’s easy to get swept up by the negativity of being a comic fan especially with other people saying the same points and agreeing with you but you are put on this earth to be happy and enjoy life. So you can give him a new path if you want

1: hmm i think it would depend on the circumstances? but overall ur right probably not haha. Thad navigating new and terrifying relationships in an absurdly neurotic and dramatic way is one of my favourite avenues to take his character so if he ever DID it would have to be extremely embarrassing for everyone involved

2: ppl may have gathered im a big fan of unrequited/onesided romance lmao so 90% of the time id say Kon tries to let him down easy

i mean piggybacking off of the konthad discussion i do think of Thad having a crush on Kon as a very puppy love/hero worship kind of crush. like i can't really see them in a real relationship bc im too attached to Thad putting Kon on a pedestal lmaoo. like here's this guy who is also a clone but still has his own identity/life/friends/interests outside of Clark and yet also has an amicable relationship with the guy and his family! it's all Thad has ever wanted!!! and with the rose-coloured lenses on he doesn't clock all the ways Kon actually really struggles with basically all those things.

yall already know abt my goth Thad propaganda which is based on very little except that he'd likely want to differentiate himself from Bart's appearance and a vibe that he's naturally drawn to a darker/edgier aesthetic (based on his palette-swapped black Impulse suit and the needlessly dramatic cloak and the look CRAYDL goes for when they inhabit the technoplasm monster)

^this is a little in conflict with another canon-adjacent headcanon which is Thad's hyperactive level of social awareness. i do think he wants most people to like him unless he's deemed them an enemy, so he fronts a very amicable sociable young man when he's around strangers or people he wants to impress. im reconciling it with the countercultural goth aesthetic by saying he can contain multitudes :P (also i think of Thad as having a delightfully dialectical brain that both desperately wants to be unique and special but also instinctively tries to comply with societal expectations)

not based in canon at all but i think he should be into the kinds of animals people find weird/gross/strange. #1 rat/snake/spider/insect defender he should have a pet snake named cornwallace or something.

4: aand Bart headcanons!

i really like how into video games he is especially in his solo and i would love to see that explored more as a genuine special interest. he tops speedrunning leaderboards and finds the insane easter eggs and secrets. his username (which is either his full legal name or an inscrutable series of numbers and letters no inbetween) becomes infamous in several online circles. ppl beg him to start streaming but Bart doesn't care he's in it for the love of the game

i really enjoy Bart having an eclectic aesthetic big fan of the grunge skater stuff he was wearing in the 90s and in sprinkles throughout the 2000s. one thing abt modern comics that makes me a lil sad is how everyone seems to have the same general sense of style :( (which is more a fault of tight deadlines and lack of characterization rather than the fault of the artists lbr)

the man strikes me as a collectibles guy he likes the fun of tracking down rare trading cards/action figures/etc and the satisfaction of a complete set. i think he would use facebook marketplace worldwide and have endless frustrations trying to communicate with the sellers

i want his having read a whole library to actually have an impact on things so i do think he has a grasp on most latin alphabet languages (having read every X to english dictionary) so his vocabulary is awesome but his grammar and accent are Trash (like he can read signage but struggles to hold a coherent conversation)

Stepping into AU territory, what if Zuko had a childhood friend his own age? The son of some noble or general or bureaucrat perhaps?

One from before his exile?

What kind of arc would they have had and how do you think it would have affected Zuko's arc?

Uuuuh... well. On one hand, I'd appreciate that because I hate the fact that Zuko seems to have zero connections with his nation beyond his family. And no, Mai doesn't count, let alone Ty Lee, because they were Azula's friends first, ergo, he only knows them because of his sister: connections through his family.

So on paper, I'd like for Zuko to have a friend from the Fire Nation that maybe was a strong connection for him.

If it was a positive friendship, it would be interesting to see Zuko grappling with the reality of all his worldview changes upon returning home in Book 3... to find that his best friend is still in the same mindset of believing the Fire Nation's rhetoric. This could make Zuko a more active character throughout Book 3, and it would enhance the whole "he's got everything he wants now, but is it REALLY what he wants anymore?!" theme they were going for with him here. So that would have been interesting for sure, and there'd be two possibilities: either Zuko reforms this fellow, or he fails to, and they might have a depressing friends-to-enemies arc where Zuko has to fight his friend and defeat him (hooopefully with more compassion than he showed his sister, I dunno :'D).

There's also the possibility of the "friendship" being negative, which means toxic, which means not really friends but fake friends? Zuko and this guy could've had a competitive, unpleasant dynamic all along that then gets worse once Zuko comes home a hero and MAYBE this guy is scheming to try and get one over Zuko...? It would be a very unpleasant thing but it would serve to show how the Fire Nation's society in itself is corrupted and it's nearly impossible to tell who's friend or foe. This guy could be a social climber who simultaneously wants to put Zuko down and humiliate him and endear himself to Ozai by doing so? I dunno, this could be a bit of a stretch, but it's also a way to take that concept forward.

As for the final possibility... a friend who joins him on his journey? :'D as in, a fan-favorite concept with mild AUs that follow the same path but you add whoever to the exiled prince (or princess)'s journey? I... don't really vibe much with that. Iroh's already there as a mentor figure. A second character involved here would just clutter the situation and either wear on Zuko further (if the guy is, say, a comic relief type who makes his life a mess along with Iroh), or just... not provide much to the story other than needless drama? So, in this specific scenario, I wouldn't be too interested, personally, in exploring this route. Would be a little odd, imo.

All this being said, interesting things can be done by giving Zuko some more basic social graces, or just making it clear that his status means people will want to use him for connections or to improve their own status through him. It's, if anything, quite strange that canon decided to make him the biggest loner of all time, whose only friends in life apparently were his mother and uncle, and maaaaaybe if you squint Mai and Ty Lee but even that's not something pre-banishment, or at least, doesn't really look like they were particularly close in Zuko Alone. It makes the sudden turn of the finale, where Zuko is universally beloved and people are ready to die for him, while his sister is completely abandoned, feel a little less contrived. The whole concept that Azula was loved by randos and Zuko was not has never made any sense to me, because we have zero evidence of that. Zuko absolutely had more people on his corner, beats me why or how, and the story somehow wants to convince us of the opposite. So... I'd be perfectly happy for some of the story's themes (Zuko knows how to be friends with someone, Azula doesn't) to be enforced further with an OC like this one, who could show us that Zuko CAN be a good friend. Would be a change of pace that makes the guy a little less disagreeable for me, who knows? :'D

illi: glue of the group, introduces them all to each other. for the sake of this, illi and louise are not related. name is from the 4k rendition of the mv. incredibly ambitious and always creates the main idea for the schemes that the group gets up to. kind of only nonbinary due to the fact that illi is an incredibly interesting name, and a very open opportunity for me to make revenge gerard even more nonbinary. their uniform is neat and tidy, not particularly out of respect for the school, but more out of awareness of their own appearance. into fashion but doesn't really know how to deal with their hair. just lets it grow out and fucks with it in the moment. croquet mallet is blue, so draws a lot of inspiration from veronica sawyer. they/she pronouns? maybe? but i lean towards they/them.

frances: placeholder name i guess? it's important for him to have the initials "FTW" to play on both ft willis/fuck the world but i think percy also works since it's a bit of a play on pencey prep. incredibly strained relationship with louise- very different personalities is a source of conflict between them. frances has the messiest uniform because he's the least put together, and has the most carefree attitude about things. hes really into being a problem but hes an unnaturally bright student when he actually gets into doing the work - taking a page from max fischers book here lmao. chipped nail polish. wears barrettes sometimes. very clever.

louise: i've always been enamored by that interview where gerard says that the band used "louise" as a nickname for mikey so i've associated it specifically with his glasses era. no last name for now but i think it has to have the same ou sound. primary inspiration for his character is max from rushmore. used to wear his hair slicked down until illi staged an intervention and forced him and frances to hang out one-on-one and style hair. neat uniform, but doesn't fit him properly for whatever reason. hand me down? transgenderism? he's just too tall? idk! connected with adults more than peers growing up and as a result is very under-socialized. involved with student leadership at the school.

ray: ughhhhh WHYYY did he have to write ray rules on the paper it would have been so fun to make a completely new name. okay anyways i just like graham and i think it suits whatever i have built for him. undiagnosed adhd and if anything a bit of a halfway point between illi and the rest of the group. illi is really intense and cannot be stopped sometimes so graham is kind of the "babygirl i was made to understand you vision" person. yeah im getting this from the hand on shoulder and sitting closer in that one scene but be nice to me im working with like. two minutes of footage as a launching point. uniform isn't buttoned, not because of carelessness, but forgetfulness. he's a little bit inconsistent about everything he does.

the school in general: rushmore style private school, kind of dying in recent years so funding and management is all over the place. mascot used to be the dogs or something but there were copyright issues with the logo and now they are the bears.

"A Rule of Fear"

I really wanted to play around with the framing device in this story, as I liked imagining the air of mystery that Defiance cultivated while they existed. I don't know who the unnamed narrator in this story is, it can be you if you want.

However with this framing device, I do understand that some of the details may be a little hard to glean, so here's a quick summary of everything that happened with Defiance. Deepdark got chronic wasting disease by eating the crow that had eaten Wild Rose, and at the end of his life he asked Prowl to kill him so he wouldn't die from the disease. In doing so he also killed Prowl, and after their deaths Defiance collapsed into chaos and became destroyed. Spike and Fang left to their own devices, but occasionally visit Deepdark and Prowl's gravesite, and Ranger and Hacksaw left for a nearby town to terrorize housepets.

A couple cameo characters appear from Issue 28, which I've used here in the panel on Page 2. Please refer to Issue 28 for user credits.

Shoutout to Deepdark for being one of my favorite characters I've ever written. He really was a blast to create, and I love how many people responded to his brand of overdramatic evil. Fly high, my freak. I'm planning to create a short comic about his childhood at some point, but I don't know when it'll be. Just be on the lookout!
