rewatching with the benefit of distance from the actual viewing - it really is so loud at how much tommy treats buck like a child - like literally every single interaction they have in 805 is like a parent talking to a child.

Combined with the shows decision to have Tommy call Buck 'Evan' all the time, feels like they're really trying to convey that this is the relationship equivalent of Buck's childhood and young adulthood - before he became Buck. When he was figuring out his place in the world and who he wanted to be. Its very much feeling like in combination its leading up to him getting to the same place in his bisexuality as when he started at the LAFD academy and changed his name to Buck - that he will make the choice from a bisexual perspective to become Buck and leave Evan behind once more.

#the way he talks to Buck is just super jarring and at this point its getting very loud and feels like its increasing in frequency #theres something about people pleaser Buck - in his first queer relationship not fully understanding that he's being treated like a child #plus there is the metaphor of tommy being a parental figure in queer terms (not being derogatory at all I just mean in terms of buck being #a baby queer and being 'brought up' in the same way a baby is brought up and parented)#it plays rather nicely into the way we might get Bucks feelings realisation about Eddie as well #that he'll dump tommy as he becomes Buck - then spend his 'probie year' being single and exploring (Buck out on the town at gay bars etc)#and then when we get to the point when Eddie turns up - we get a whatta man redux and the feelings realisation clicks into place #911 spoilers #eddie diaz #evan buckley #911 abc #buddie #anti bucktommy #anti tommy kinard
