In the soap opera that was the Greek pantheon, Zeus, as a figure, satirized toxic masculinity. The supposed all-father and king of the gods was a hormone-controlled, illoyal, cowardly, power-abusing womanizer. When adapting that, the Abrahamic religions glorified that and made it into a good thing.

Point is: These are stories, you know? As a writer myself, it's part of my work to understand the purpose of stories, as well as their themes. And religion is just any story that stays popular for so long, no one can prove that is indeed fiction anymore. I'm not saying that these stories are worthless. Certainly not, they get people to do extraordinary things. But that is precisely the issue: For centuries, religious institutions have been abusing the power of these timeless stories to maintain their own wealth and power. It's caused so much damage, I just can't accept it.

FLASHBACK 5 Imani wrapped up her match, surrounded by the sound of cheers from the crowd. She had initially felt uncertain, wondering if the people watching would support her. To her delight, they did, and that filled her with a deep sense of joy and validation.

After her match, Imani entered the locker room and opened her locker, gathering her belongings. She was eager to head home for the night, as she had no intention of staying for the main event; her focus was on creating music back at the studio.

"You not gonna stay for the main event?" Zilla asked causing Imani to flinch while turning around seeing him standing there.

"Jesus, Isayah you can't be scaring folks like that. I thought about it," She said.

"I mean you can stay and go home afterwards, don't worry about Jordan and his boys trying to get you Imani just know I got your back fasho," he said as Imani smiled at him while nodding her head.

"A'ight, I guess I can stay who's going against who?"

Zilla laughs at her comment about him pursuing the title tonight, and Imani feels a surge of excitement for him, wishing him luck as they both step out of the locker room together.

"I like that moonsault you be doing though Mani, it looks cool as hell,"

"It took a lot of practice to perfect it without feeling like I was going to break my damn neck," Imani replied as she was eating her dinner in the front row seats since the place was small.

"I can tell, have you been keeping touch with Jey and them?"

Imani shook her head in dismay. Ever since her family relocated to a new state because of her father's job, she had lost touch with everyone, including not having their phone numbers anymore.

"Nah, I haven't talked to them in a while. It would be nice though to see them," She said.

"I mean can send out a message to them, we suppose to be having a family outing soon."

Imani fondly recalls the moments when her parents would allow her to visit the Fatu's home to enjoy the company of Jimmy and Jey during family gatherings. Their mother always ensured she had a hearty meal before she left, making those times truly special.

JIMMY I was at the gym with my twin brother, working on some bench press reps while he stood by to spot me, ensuring my safety. As I focused on my sets, I suddenly heard him asking me something.

"She's given herself three weeks to figure out if she's going to keep runnin' from me or let me love her correctly," I said while focusing on my reps.

I paused in the middle of my set, setting the equipment on the rail as I sat up on the bench and turned to look at him. "yeah, she told me why. And I told her she can do allat with me you know I'm not goin to hurt her,"

Imani may try to escape from this situation, but I will always pursue her, regardless of the challenges we face. I am determined that she will be with me, and I truly believe that. I understand her fears and her hesitation to open her heart again, but I promise that my love will be a different experience for her.

"I lay it out there for her what it is and what it ain't, so if she wants to keep runnin' I don't mind chasing." I responded while shrugging my shoulders hearing my brother chuckling at me.

"Mane, you a trip for real dawg. Then what about Trin then? You know she's goin to find out eventually about this,"

"Let her find out about me and Imani I don't care, she wasn't making me happy anyways. I always hated playing pretend in front of the fam Uce it started to become draining, and then her wanting sex every single time shit get bad mmcht was so tiring I don't get that feeling when I'm with Imani," I expressed to him.

I couldn't keep pretending about my feelings anymore. The constant ups and downs with Trin made it incredibly difficult to put on a brave face during family gatherings. Whenever people asked how we were doing, we would just say we were fine, but deep down, I knew I wasn't truly happy.

Seeing Imani at our last family gathering was an overwhelming experience; it felt like a jolt of electricity ran through me, leaving me with goosebumps. She looked absolutely stunning and radiant, especially after not having seen her for so long since her move. When we found ourselves alone together, I struggled to contain my feelings—she is far too precious for someone like Jordan to ever lay a hand on her.

After returning from the gym, I was relaxing at home and scrolling through my social media when I noticed Imani had shared something on her story. She looked absolutely stunning, and I couldn't help but quickly react by liking her post. Just seeing her made my heart race, but I managed to keep my composure.

I could hear Trinity's voice echoing as she made her way down the stairs, her footsteps heavy and determined. She approached me, playfully weaving between my legs while I looked up at her.

"What's up Trin?" I asked.

"Where do you be going after work?" She questioned me as I raised an eyebrow at her.

I didn't want to hide the truth from her about my plans after work. I do spend time with Imani, my best friend, and it's natural for me to be with her often.

"I be with Imani, I'm not finna lie to you Trin. If that's what you wanted me to do ." She let out a bitter laugh at my remark, wishing I would fabricate a story about where I had been, just to stir up some drama, fully aware of how exhausting this situation can be.

"That figures because you smell like her every single time you come home, are you fucking her?" And there it was the question about me fucking her which caused me to chuckle a little bit. "No, I'm not fucking her Trin. I'm only spending time with her that's all." I said lying through my teeth knowing damn well I be fucking her shit in.

She crossed her arms over her chest, clearly unconvinced by my lie. It felt as though she had already figured out the answer to her own question. So why did she feel the need to ask me about what was happening between Imani and me at this moment?

"If you're here just to start some shit Trin, I'm not here for it aight? I'm tired of this on and off shi," she had scoffed at me while rolling her eyes.

"I know you're fucking her! I mean who spends a lot of time with their best friend in the middle of the night?"

"She's working on her new singles album and she just wanted some support Trin what else is there to say?"

"Some support or some dick from you?"   I was taken aback by her unexpected outburst. Even though I had been expecting this moment, it still left me feeling uneasy. I stood up from the couch and headed upstairs, recognizing that I just didn’t have the strength to face the situation at that moment.

She trailed behind me up the stairs, her words spilling out carelessly as I chose to remain silent. Entering our shared bedroom, I felt a wave of frustration wash over me, as if I were carrying a heavy burden of unexpressed anger within.

I silenced her by gently holding her throat, pressing her back onto the bed, my legs positioned between hers, fully aware that this was what she desired from me.

To be honest, I've been avoiding him because I've never encountered someone like Jimmy before—he just acts so unpredictably, and it's been overwhelming for me.

I sat in Kehlani's locker room, scrolling through my timeline, when I heard the door creak open. I looked up to see Kehlani chatting with Jaida. A smile spread across my face as I watched her break away from Jaida and rush towards me.

"Oh my god! What are you doing here?" Kehlani gasped as we separated from one another.

"I had to come see my best friend whoop some ass tonight right? And besides I got a day off today so I didn't want to miss anything," I said.

"Oh, I love you so much. But Imani this is Jaida and Jaida this is Imani my best friend I've been telling you about," she introduce us as me and Jaida shook hands with each other.

"Girl, you have to tell me everything like now."

I couldn't help but laugh a little as she told Jaida she'd catch up with her later. I began to share everything that's been going on while I've been away for so long, including finally seeing Jimmy and the others, but then I paused for a moment.

"What happened Mani?" She asked.

I sighed softly, " Jon and I are navigating a situation after we shared a kiss during their family outing, and he's someone I haven't encountered in this way before, Lani." I explained before continuing on.

She raised an eyebrow at me in confusion, "so what's the problem bestie?"

"He's with Trinity and I kept telling him that it was so wrong to do this behind her back but he was so adamant about it, and he's different but I don't think I'm ready to handle something like that he makes me so nervous and flustered every single time he's around Lani...I'm just running from him."

"Girl, is this the same Jonathan Fatu we are talking about?" I nodded my head fiddling with my fingers as she patted my back. "Mani, you can't be running away from a good man like him I know he's dealing with Trin but if he's showing you that he wants you then there's no reason for you to be running," she said.

Kehlani had a point in her words. I realized that if I kept pushing him away, he would eventually grow weary of the chase I was putting him through. Yet, I found myself uncertain about whether I was truly ready to let go.

 Navigating my relationship with Jordan and his manipulative behavior took a significant toll on me, especially on my mental well-being. It felt as though he had no genuine concern for me; his primary focus seemed to be exerting control over my life. It was truly distressing, and I found it unbearable.

"I never dealt with someone like Jimmy Lani," I said.

"You've been knowing him since high school Mani, what's the problem?"

I sighed, "I never dealt with a man that wanted me as much as I wanted them and it scares me because he's so different from Jordan and every single time I'm with him it's like my brain malfunction,"

"Mani, you should be able to let new things happen instead of running away constantly and that's your problem you always run away when something good happens whenever things get bad," she said.

It's true what she said; I tend to retreat when things start to go well. I made a promise to myself, and I often wonder how different things might have been if I hadn't moved away as a teenager. Maybe Jimmy and I would have connected instantly, but there were factors beyond my control that shaped my path.

Kehlani knew me better than anyone well except for Jimmy and Them, I wasn't sure if I wanted this to happen between him and I.

"I don't want to look stupid Lani, that's all I'm worried about right now it's bad enough Jordan embarrassed me who knows what Jimmy can do."

I was just about to say something when I received a notification from Instagram. Someone had sent me a message in my DMs. When I opened it, I was surprised to see a picture from Trinity, showing them and someone else in what appeared to be an elevator. It really caught me off guard.

I felt really unsettled by that message. It made me wonder if she was aware of what was going on between him and me. Was she trying to provoke jealousy on purpose? I can't deny that I felt a twinge of jealousy, but I know I shouldn't. The truth is, he isn't mine, and I don't belong to him—it's as straightforward as that.

Kehlani noticed the shift in my expression, which turned frustrating. I really didn't want to find myself caught up in drama with his girlfriend.

"Was that Trin? Let me see," she said as I showed her the message that Trinity had sent me.

I saw her facial expression changed into as she looked at the picture then the message that Trinity had sent me. "You see why I'm running away from him, I don't need all of this drama between her and I Lani...it's just too much,"

Kehlani was heading toward the gorilla for her match tonight, and I couldn't help but let out a deep sigh as I read the message, fully aware of the challenges that awaited me with this man.

I just ignored her message, rolling my eyes as I got up from the couch. I made my way to the locker room, heading to my front-row seat. As I was doing that, I received a text from Jimmy, and I couldn't help but let out a deep sigh, feeling reluctant to respond to him.

I haven't received any messages from him all day. It's amusing to think he was likely with her the entire time. I just left him on read, shaking my head in disbelief.

After watching Kehlani's match and the main event tonight, I made the decision to head home. I completely overlooked the fact that Jimmy had texted me, but honestly, I wasn't too concerned about it. He should really be focusing on Trinity instead of reaching out to me.

As I neared my apartment, I noticed a car I recognized parked in the lot. A wave of anxiety washed over me as I silently hoped it wasn't Jimmy, ready to confront me about my lack of response to his texts. I switched off my car and gathered my belongings from the back, the sound of my keys jingling echoing in the quiet as I made my way up the steps to my apartment door.

I was caught off guard when I heard someone clear their throat behind me. When I turned around, there was Jimmy, and I instinctively shot him a disapproving glance, rolling my eyes at his unexpected arrival.

"What you want Jimmy?" I questioned firmly as I opened the door to my apartment, realizing that allowing him inside was my first misstep.

As I closed the door behind us, I walked past him, setting my belongings down on the couch. I made my way to the kitchen, intending to prepare something to eat, while he remained still, his gaze fixed on me, as if he were captivated by my every move.

"What's up with this attitude mamas? You left me on read," he responded as I scoffed at him.

"Nigga, we aren't together so what's is there to discuss right now? Shouldn't you be with Trin right now?" As I seasoned the salmon with a blend of spices, I couldn't help but respond with a bit of sass before placing it in the air fryer.

I felt his footsteps approaching from behind, and suddenly, he took hold of me by the back of my throat, forcing me to meet his gaze while my body was pinned against him. "Fix yourself before I do sweetheart,"

"Jonathan, I'm not dealing with this with you. I told you the last time we seen each other,"

Jimmy shook his head, "why are you being like this with me Mani when I wanted to check up on you?"

I stood there with my arms crossed, glancing at the timer on the air fryer, and then I gently pushed him away as I met his gaze.

"Should've thought about that before fucking her, and then have her ass text me some bullshit," Jimmy raised an eyebrow at me in confusion of what I was talking about at the moment, I let out a deep sigh as I walked over to the couch, pulling my phone from my purse. I turned it towards him to show the message she had sent, along with the picture.

He met my gaze, and I could tell he recognized my frustration. I had tried to warn him about this, but he had chosen to ignore my concerns.

"I didn't know she was going to text you Imani," he said.

As I was about to speak, the air fryer chimed, indicating that the food was ready. I walked by Jimmy, who was eagerly waiting, and opened the air fryer. The delightful scent of spices filled the room as I carefully removed the salmon, placing it on a plate before reaching for some hot sauce.

"It doesn't matter, I don't want this and I don't need this drama between me and her just work things out with shawty," I said.

I passed by him once more as I made my way to the living room. I settled onto the couch and switched on the television, all the while he remained there, taken aback by how I was treating him.

I was just about to enjoy my meal when I felt him pressing me back against the couch, positioning himself between my legs and looking deeply into my eyes.

He gently pressed his lips against mine, and I felt myself surrender to him as I wrapped my arms around his neck, drawing him nearer until our bodies met in a warm embrace.

The kiss lingered, unfolding gently and profoundly.

I could feel his tongue exploring my mouth as my fingers tangled in his curls, craving more of him in a way I had never experienced before.

I felt his fingers entwined with mine as he pressed his lips against my neck, sending shivers through me with every kiss. I couldn't help but moan his name, overwhelmed by the intensity of the moment.

"You're though, why do you keep fighting this?"

"I don't know...I literally don't know Jonathan." I said feeling him getting off of me.

I propped myself up, noticing him standing there, adjusting himself while casting a glance in my direction. His face told a story of frustration and pain, and I felt a wave of regret wash over me—I never intended for things to turn out this way. As I slipped my shirt back on, I watched him turn and walk toward the door, feeling the weight of the moment.

I caught up with him stopping him in his tracks as he looked at me. "Jon...please,"

He shook his head yanking his arm away from me, "when you figure out what you want, then you can hit me up." Jimmy said while placing a kiss on my temple before slamming the door shut.

I lean against the door, tears streaming down my cheeks as I quietly sob, struggling to stifle my cries with my hand while the hiccups start to take over.

 Am I really throwing away something valuable in my life just because I feel the urge to escape? Was this my one opportunity to experience genuine love?

A new world view thought of by Tsunekazu Ishihara and Koichi Nakamura

Pokémon and Mystery Dungeon... The two completely different worlds were merged to give birth to an unexpected monster of a game. I was able to interview the two key figures about the popularity and secrets of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, which has exceeded 5.5 million in sales worldwide.

On November 17th, 2005, the Pokémon released Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team (Nintendo DS) and Red Rescue Team (Game Boy Advance)*1, exceeded total world-wide shipments of 5.5 million. The meeting between Pokémon, beloved by children all over the world, and Mystery Dungeon, known for its hard, unforgiving gameplay, caused a powerful chemical reaction, giving birth to a new world known as Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. But how did these two games, which should surely reject each other, manage this miraculous fusion?

I was able to have a long talk with the father of Pokémon, Tsunekazu Ishihara, and Koichi Nakamura from Chunsoft, who created Mystery Dungeon, and hear their secrets. Eventually, our conversation even extended to the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon sequel!

Altering the world to match the core of the game

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon has now exceeded 5.5 million. This really is an incredible number. Have you analyzed the reason for its success?

Ishihara: There is a pattern when it comes to Pokémon titles that are a hit worldwide. The sales ratio for Japan, North America and Europe start at 1:1:1. This time, we were able to replicate this pattern very well with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. If it starts with this ratio, then the ratio for North America and Europe will increase, as there is a greater tendency for software to continue selling in those places compared to Japan. And so I think this 5.5 million number is a single waypoint.

And how do you view it, Nakamura-san?

Nakamura: I have also been involved in the production of Dragon Quest, but even then, I have never had the experience of selling 5.5 million copies worldwide with a single title before. It is a big number that really shows that people around the world are playing it. So as a creator, I could not be more happier.

For people currently in their 30s and 40s, I think that Dragon Quest would be the first game that showed them the ‘impact of a story.’ But these days, a child’s first game with a story would be Pokémon. The Dragon Quest phenomenon that occurred in Japan is now happening on a worldwide scale with Pokémon. I believe that creating games that ‘appeal to every market’ has been your lifework, Ishihara-san. What is your secret?

Ishihara: North America, Europe, Asia and other regions… I think that every market is incredibly unique and different in terms of what is accepted. With that being said, if we were to remake every game for every market, I doubt we would have been able to circulate this far and wide. For instance, the Pokémon called Pikachu is also Pikachu all over the world. The gameplay elements, the Pokémon trading system, the parts that are the core of the game are all shared. If we tried remaking them for each market, it would have crumbled eventually.

Previously, you have said, ‘There is no point in being fun if it is not fun all over the world.’ I suppose that applies here.

Released on separate hardware, Nintendo DS and Game Boy Advance. The system of the player becoming the Pokémon and exploring a ‘Mystery Dungeon’ with other Pokémon attracted a lot of attention. The ‘Help a Friend’ system that allowed you to use an internet connection to help friends who fell in the dungeon was also quite innovative.

Ishihara: I’ve operated with the mindset of, ‘What should I do to have the finished product be something that can be enjoyed all around the world?’ With Diamond and Pearl, *2 you were able to trade Pokémon with other players around the world through the Global Trade Station *3. However, if the content of the software that was circulating in each market was too different, it would not allow for any proper trading. On the other hand, I do think it’s important to enjoy ‘small differences.’ Just like with the first generation Pokémon, where different Pokémon appeared in Red and Green. But if the differences become too big, then it no longer feels like you’re enjoying it with everyone. This feeling is the same as an internet browser. The basic OS is the same, only localized for every territory. But we can use the same browser to see the same sites.

It was then that you encountered Mystery Dungeon. It must have looked quite strange, coming from the world of Pokémon.

Nakamura: Just as he’s said already, Ishihara-san is very particular when it comes to the world of Pokémon. But first and foremost, Ishihara-san is a genuine game fanatic. What I mean to say is, even with such a fixation on the world, he still allows the gameplay to be the priority. He prioritizes the essence of what makes a game fun, and is very tolerant of certain rule changes in regards to the Pokémon world. For instance, you know how the Pokémon talk, or how the player is a Pokémon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon? This had not been done in the series before, and is a very big change to the rules, but he reacted with incredible flexibility.

These rule changes. Were they ‘acceptable’ with the Pokémon world?

Ishihara: The things that others might say should not happen, are not really that big of a problem for me (laughs). Instead of that, I think it’s much more important to be faithful in conveying the fun of computer games, or rather, the ‘structure of fun.’

I see…

Ishihara: In Mystery Dungeon, the map is automatically generated, you can write what you want on scrolls and use them. It is a game with a very traditional computer game structure. Pokémon is the same. After all, the foundation of networking and trading was demonstrated 10 years ago. These two series have proven that ‘Playing with a computer is so fun!’ And if the two were combined, then it would result in a game that is even more fun. And so even if Pikachu starts talking, I don’t mind it at all (laughs). If anything, it’s fun to think of how you can make such an idea ‘acceptable.’

That’s an incredibly flexible way of thinking.

Ishihara: When it comes to great ‘gameplay’ that is along the lines of the traditional, I would very much like to increase the fun through multiplication. Because of that, there was meaning and value to creating something new with Mystery Dungeon and Nakamura-san.

Ishihara: I think there is also compatibility. Between games.

Was that something that you had already felt? That Pokémon and Mystery Dungeon were compatible?

Ishihara: Indeed. Also, I just happened to like them personally (Laughs).

I heard that you are a big fan of Mystery Dungeon.

Ishihara: After all, I consider myself a Mystery Dungeon professional (Laughs).

Nakamura-san, do you also feel the same way as Ishihara-san?

Nakamura: When the possibility was first brought up to me, I did feel that they were greatly suited for each other, as Pokémon has a lot of characters, a lot of tools and different kinds of skills. But on the other hand, Mystery Dungeon has a high difficulty level, and a game system that is quite hands-off with the player. Would it really be able to fuse with a game that is beloved by children…? I did have some doubts.

Ah, that’s true…

Nakamura: But judging by the surveys gathered from people around the world who have played the game, while many had the opinion that it was ‘difficult,’ they were all able to finish it. I’ve always believed that the ideal form of a game is when you have a person who thinks they are the only one in their class who can beat it, but actually everyone can… It is that balance. And I think that with Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, we were able to get incredibly close to achieving that balance.

It seems like a difficult adjustment to make…

Nakamura: In Japan, there might be certain immunity or a foundation for playing, due to Torneko and Shiren. But they don’t have those in other countries, so I was anxious about whether it would be well-received or not. But the results were… Well, that’s the power of Pokémon for you (Laughs).

They were a good match in the end.

Nakamura: Looking back, I really do think it was a wonderful encounter.

2 games on Nintendo DS

After the game has become such a worldwide hit, I cannot help but ask about the next game…

Ishihara: We’ve actually been working on the next game for quite some time. It will be for Nintendo DS hardware.

Ohh! Previously, you released one game for DS and Advance respectively. How will it be this time?

Ishihara: 2 on the DS.

Ohhh! When did development begin?

Nakamura: A very long time ago (Laughs).

Ishihara: We are developing it with the hope of releasing it in 2007.

That is not very far away!

Ishihara: Yes. So we wouldn’t finish it in time if we had just started now, right? (Laughs)

Well, that is what Ishihara-san says, but how are things at your place, Nakamura-san…?

Nakamura: The situation is quite hectic, of course (Awkward laugh).

Did you always plan to make sequels?

Ishihara: No. It would be difficult to do until you felt confident in the first game. A big part of it was that the reception abroad was better than expected.

What was the reason you chose to release both games on the DS?

Ishihara: When the previous game first went on sale, it was the perfect time, as the leading platform was switching from the Game Boy Advance to the DS. But the situation has changed completely in just one year. When deciding to release two different types, we had to discuss which hardware to choose, and there were even some suggestions of ‘Why not DS and Wii?’ (Laughs). But considering the current market and development environment, we felt it would be best to have both released and played on the DS.

How was it as a creator? Releasing only on the DS.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon became an anime in North America, and recorded incredibly high viewership. Since Pokémon Mystery Dungeon plays differently from previous Pokémon, and it takes place in a new setting where the Pokémon can talk, Ishihara explained that it was made with the intent of being an ‘orientation.’

In fact, this anime is to be released in Japan as well. It will commemorate the release of the new sequel mentioned in this interview, and be available on March 23. Nakamura: With the previous games, we were forced to create them in a way that accommodated the inferior capabilities of the Advance. But since both will be on the DS this time, we can incorporate ideas involving the dual screens as much as we wish.

It sounds like there will be a lot of new elements.

Nakamura: That’s right. In particular, as we can create it on the basis of there being Wi-Fi support, aside from the ‘Help a Friend’ system from the previous game, we are putting even more effort into having that feeling of ‘playing with everyone.’

Specifically, what kinds of elements are being added?

Nakamura: I can’t say (Awkward laugh).

Will Pokémon from Diamond and Pearl be included?

Ishihara: Of course, they will be. Not only that, as simply being put in without a solid role would be meaningless. So please look forward to that. Also, one thing that I can say is in regards to the question of ‘releasing two types?’ If there are two dungeons, then the two games will be slightly different… Well, I am still discussing various things with Nakamura-san (Laughs).

Wh-what do you mean?

Nakamura: For instance. This is an example, alright? Even if it’s the same dungeon, if the items you pick up are different, then it would affect the way you finish the game, or what strategies you use. …Well, that is just an example (Laughs).

It would be a very big difference for Mystery Dungeon!

Ishihara: Originally, in Pokémon games, the gap between Pokémon was a gap in playing. In other words, it dictated the direction of the game. In Mystery Dungeon, the acquiring of items has been added to that. I think that things like that will become the great difference between the two sequels.

With the sequel, as far as you are able to say at this time, can you tell us what point you want players to focus on the most?

Nakamura: For the previous games, we received a lot of feedback about how the scenarios and story parts were incredibly interesting. And so we are consciously trying to create a game with a substantial story that surpasses the previous games and be a more enjoyable adventure. An even longer story is waiting for you.

Ishihara: In regards to the amount of story, there were many different opinions. We thought that we had incorporated a great amount of it, but there were still people who said there ‘wasn’t enough.’ And so we thought, ‘what wasn’t there enough of…’

In the previous game, after you see the ending and closing credits, quite a lot of elements are unlocked. But expanding on things like controls and character selection may have made the partner relationship between the player and the Pokémon feel a little more distant. That was the conclusion I reached after analyzing it. This time, we mean to create the story while taking that into account.

Always be bold towards things that seem traditional!

Lastly, in regards to future developments. It seems like Pokémon will continue to develop in many different directions.

Ishihara: There are plenty of ideas when it comes to simply expanding the license. However, when you find themes or mechanisms that make you wish to collaborate in some form, like Mystery Dungeon, it is very helpful. In fact, there is no meaning in making something new without that relationship. Once you realize you can combine two things to create a new way to play, as we did with this game, it makes you want to try out many other different things too. When it comes to things that are considered traditional with video games, I would like to be bold at all times.

Nakamura-san. Mystery Dungeon turned out to be an incredibly good game. Has this experience made you want to try out anything in the future?

Nakamura: The DS has complete network capabilities now, so I believe that it’s time to start focusing on that. With Wi-Fi taken into consideration, I think some interesting things could be done with Mystery Dungeon. I have all kinds of ideas.

Ishihara: There is something that both Pokémon fans and Mystery Dungeon fans can look forward to the most this year, and that is these two games. Whether it's the gameplay or the expanding world of Pokémon, I hope that they are looking forward to it.

Nakamura: I feel like I’m being pressured (Laughs). As Ishihara-san said, we will create something that won’t disappoint fans, so please look forward to it.

The moment that I saw Tsunekazu Ishihara and Koichi Nakamura sitting together, I felt goosebumps all over my body. And then the two spoke directly of the worldwide hit, Pokémon Mystery Dungeon. I could not help but think about how it was such a privilege, and somewhat forgot about my work.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon was created from this meeting between the two, and while listening to them, I nodded with an ‘I see,’ many times. At a glance, the two worlds might seem to oppose each other, but with Ishihara’s flexible stance, and the technical ability of Chunsoft led by Nakamura, I think that the creation of a balanced game that was a hit on a worldwide scale was not so much ‘miraculous,’ but ‘inevitable.’ I have great expectations for the sequel, which is said to be released in 2007. I've mostly managed to dodge the gross right-wing dudebro ST fans in my spiral into the fandom, but I did run across a few wild takes from them in tracking down clips and reading up on the individual TOS episodes and such, and I continue to be kind of amazed at what kind of blinders you have to have on to engage with TOS that way.

One of them was like "oh, I bet the feminists hate Kirk because he's horny and just goes after this hot woman because he's into her and act like there's some problem with it" and then the hot woman in question is Lenore Karidian. You know, the woman he pursues in order to dig up information about her barely-veiled Nazi metaphor father who orchestrated the genocide Kirk himself survived, a genocide which Lenore defends even more than her father does (though both try to justify it while Kirk teeters on the edge of contemplating murder), and she suggests Kirk has no right to judge what harm has been done and both she and her father repeatedly suggest Kirk is subhuman and she has been systematically murdering the nine witnesses who survived the genocide, with only two left after she murdered Kirk's still-traumatized fellow witness and friend and Kirk takes things further with her specifically because of the murders and she's plotting his murder as well.

So, you know, as a feminist I think there might be other issues at hand.

I've also been struck by the same sort of thing with the "hur hur look at Kirk being horny with the hot alien babe, this is what the feminists took from us"—but the shot is almost always Shahna from "The Gamesters of Triskelion." And to my very great surprise when I actually watched the episode, the context is that Kirk, Uhura, and Chekov have been captured and imprisoned as "thralls" and Uhura is nearly raped while the others hear her screaming. Kirk is panicking and losing his shit the whole time, and literally the next thing he does is start trying to charm his guard (the hot alien babe in question), gather information, and figure out a way to save them all as fast as he can.

It's not that I'm by any means uncritical of the episode—it's explicit that this thralldom is just a euphemism for slavery and the choice to have Uhura specifically enslaved and nearly raped is grotesque IMO, I find Shahna deeply cringe as a character, and the episode is broadly a middling one. But come on, Kirk's calculated flirtation with Shahna immediately follows from him screaming, "Lieutenant, are you all right? Uhura! Lieutenant! Lieutenant, are you all right? Lieutenant, answer me! Lieutenant! What's happening to Lieutenant Uhura? Lieutenant, are you all right?" He later apologizes to Shahna and says, "I did what was necessary."

I think there's plenty to consider in how this is a relatively common tactic of his, and in some ways operates as a pretext for our dude hero to be desired by nearly every woman he encounters, even as it also tends to be complicated in terms of the visual language and interactions with gender and autonomy throughout TOS. But this is definitely not a simple Horny For An Alien Babe situation.

Of course, you'd have to actually pay attention to the episodes to know that, which these dudes seem allergic to doing.

First, let's just talk names.

Coriolanus Snow, after the Shakespearen play, which is about the Roman General, Gnaeus Marcius Coriolanus

Second, how Coriolanus (tbosas) views women.

He views women as their usefulness. If they can not provide him anything, he doesn't like them, care for them, keep them around.

and, he sees women through the madonna-whore complex.

The madonna whore complex, for those who don't know, is a psychological complex that basically states "where men desire, they can not love and where men love, they can not desire" because they only see women as either saintly Madonna's (Madonna in the 'my lady' 'lady, virgin mary' kind of way, not in the singer-songwriter kind of way. im making this clarification because i was confused the first few times i heard this term) or whores to satisfy their physical urges.

another way it's presented is madonna/mother-whore complex. so madonna is interchangeable with mother in this sense

it's important to remember that this complex doesn't mean that these men could never possibly have sex with a madonna, especially if they have mommy issues. They're actually more likely to want to be intimate with a madonna if they have mommy issues because it feeds into the lack of love from their actually mothers.

We'll get to that in a very disturbing way in a moment!

so in Coriolanus' lense, Tigris? she's a madonna. Arachne? she'd be a whore. Dr Gaul? she'd be a mother in Coriolanus' eyes. Lucy Gray? she can't be a whore in his eyes because he's disgusted by her previous mention of romantic relations, so mother it is.

Third, Mrs Snow's and Lucy Gray Baird's similarities and how Coriolanus tell us himself he is attracted to his own mother.

now, Mrs Snow either had green or brown eyes then. and based off how he mentions Persephone Price being the prettiest girl in the Academy because of her hazel eyes, second to only maybe Clemensia, who's is described as having golden brown skin and raven black hair in the book and is played by Ashley Liao in the movie, who has brown eyes. And Tigris, a mother figure to Coriolanus, having brown eyes, I'm leaning towards Mrs Snow having had brown eyes.

Coriolanus doesn't straighten his hair at the end of the book. That was added to the movies to visually demonstrate how much like Crassus Coriolanus had become. Meaning straight hair was a Crassus Snow thing. Crassus is always depicted with straight hair. Meaning Mrs Snow was most likely who Coriolanus got his curls from.

okay, so Mrs Snow had curly hair (lets say for the hell of it that her hair was brunette) and brown eyes. Who else has brown curly hair and brown eyes? Lucy Gray.

not to mention her youthful appearance.

Or how fast he attached himself to Dr Gaul. He doesn't go to anyone else after the arena, just Dr Gaul to get his back stitched up and soaked up every word she spat at him while he was vulnerable. (I hate Dr Gaul so much omg actually don't get me started). When he found out he was getting sent out as a peacekeeper, he ran to her, to beg for her mercy.

idk how well I just listed that because I felt it wasn't too necessary but my point is, ITS CRYSTAL CLEAR HE HAS MOMMY ISSUES. not even to mention his insistence on roses being his thing long after his mother's death and the 10th annual Hunger Games.

now, feel free to skip this disgusting detail because it's not necessary for my overall point, however I would just like to say, he gives Lucy Gray his mother's scarf. that scarf that still smelt like his mother. like roses. also, coriolanus is a teenage boy and not above physical relations, especially not in alleyways behind train stations, anyway! so, Lucy Gray wears this scarf when they head up north, and idk if you know how scent works but it transfers, not to mention it was raining which meant the scent would've bleed more, meaning Lucy Gray would've smelt like his mother. Lucy Gray, his girlfriend, would've smelt like his mother, when they were alone in a small cabin together with no one for miles. do with that what you will.

Anyway, all this to say, Coriolanus Snow has mommy issues and it's not some 'theory', it's canon.

im bored, so here are the jobs i think the marauders would have if they were just normal ass people pt 1;

James would work for his father in the company he owns. i'm not sure why but i get the feeling that after he graduated school he didn't really know what he wanted to do with his life so income Fleamont Potter (the man he is) and offered his son some low-level job in the company (we only allow an acceptable level of nepotism). he does regular paperwork and he loves making powerpoint presentations. oh and i get the feeling that James is the one who’s standing by the water cooler making small talk with everyone (in all honesty James is the personality hire and he knows that). the funny part about all of this is that James would tell everyone that he's only there until he figures out what he wants to do with his life and no one believes him (his current goal is to become team leader of a project) there are some people who despise James because he's the son of the ceo. like there have been complaints of James not working and stuff and they complain to Fleamont hoping they fire James and Fleamont's just like ok I'll deal with it (he does not in fact deal with it (James always gets his work done and always has lunch with his dad to give him updates on his work)).

Sirius is funny. i dont know how else to explain it but Sirius would be one of those guys who's like a mechanic but doesn't actually have the job of a mechanic. like he says he is, but he's not. and it's not to hate on him or anything because he's actually a really good mechanic, he just doesn't have the 'official qualifications' or whatever. and the only way he even makes money is by inserting himself in other people's conversations. like he'll be at an auto store and someone's having an issue with their car (about some part or another) and they'll talking with the cashier about it (the cashier doesn't know shit about cars, they just work there). in comes Sirius who'll pop into the conversation and give his opinion and offer to solve the issue for like free (because it's an easy fix) and when he goes they're just like 'no let me pay for this' and it's like fifty bucks, a beer and the request to fix a friends car (it's how he met James). and that's how he would make both friends and clients. also, i just know this man smells like brake fluid (the smell gives Remus a headache).

Remus is an odd one because i see him as being like an interpreter or something similar. and when i say interpreter i mean like the ones in the tablet that the doctors drag around when they don't have an interpreter on site. what language, i don't know, your choice really but i can just see him on the tablet, the image is lagging and the audio is cutting off a bit but know he still looks good with a headset. (i also see him as a Mcdonald's employee, but that seemed too basic for him (again the headset)). generally, i feel like Remus would be a polyglot (he was so bored he learned different languages for fun (definitely, knows like french and german)) so he would be translating a lot. in fact, that's how he met Sirius (you know before he was an online interpreter). Remus is also James' chosen interpreter whenever he is to meet with foreign companies (yes James does meet with other companies because although he's technically he's in a low level position he's still son of the ceo and he trust Remus not to fuck him over).

Peter works as either an accountant or works in marketing. i'm more inclined to say he's an accountant because he would mostly be in charge of Sirius 'business' (he's trying to actually open up an auto shop) but at the same time he would be in marketing in the Potter company and have all of the office gossip (he would be working with James and I one hundred percent believe Peter would be James' boss). Peter would be an absolute terror toward James when he first starts (always sending him out on coffee runs for the whole floor with complex orders, and James just takes it in good fun (no James never messes up an order) but he's the first one to help James if he ever feels overwhelmed by the workload. over time though James starts to do better and eventually becomes Peter's boss, and he's only a little annoyed by this but at least James isn't sending him on coffee runs (no, that's the job of the new intern that James can't keep his eyes off of (oh and god forbid Peter asks for coffee, James would chew him out for 'overworking' the intern)), Peter can't wait for that bit of information to spread through the department, he might just tell Fleamont and Euphemia next time he goes for dinner at the Potters.

nat who is too scared to regress sober 𓈒 he's scared of his father , of what he might do to him , of what he might say , of how he might feel 𓈒 nat who knows he needs to regress again but the confines of the trailer feel more like a prison than a home 𓈒

he uses weed as an escape , as a means to feel all that he can't allow himself to feel sober , as a way to regress quickly and easily 𓈒 he typically smokes shitty joints he's gotten from guys at school 𓈒 he much prefers rolling his own but often can't afford to 𓈒

he typically middle or teen regresses , not feeling safe enough to go any younger unless he's away from home 𓈒 he almost entirely vent regresses to cope with his relationship with his father , dysphoria & his conflicting relationship with gender , and the mistreatment he faces at school 𓈒

he's a nonverbal regressor , though he can get very giggly depending on how high he is 𓈒 he's usually careful not to smoke too much , not wanting to green out while regressed and have his dad find out about it but on worse days he'll smoke more , getting higher and experiencing a more blissful regression 𓈒

nat keeps himself confined to his room while he's regressed for safety 𓈒 sometimes he'll get bored of it but he doesn't dare venture out aside from to go to the bathroom unless he's sure nobody is home 𓈒 if he has the trailer to himself he may find himself in the living room sitting on the ragged carpet in front of the compact tv watching old cartoons 𓈒 he'll be half focused on his show , half focused on his one toy car , a gift from van , rolling it back and forth in front of him 𓈒 he's always sure to be aware of the clock , skittering back to his room the second he hears the sound of his dad pulling up 𓈒

when he's higher or more emotional he'll have trouble identifying where he's regressed to he just feels Little 𓈒 he doesn't much care about labelling his regression ages so it's not a super big deal to him but it can be frustrating if he's with van or lottie who are trying to check in with him 𓈒

as much as he doesn't much need or want a caregiver he prefers when he's with van or lottie while regressed 𓈒 especially van , his brother figure since they were both just kids 𓈒 he can get embarrassed or frustrated if his friends try to truly take care of him which is more of an issue with lottie 𓈒 he likes having company and friends but he doesn't like when they treat him like he's fragile or feeling like he has to rely on them 𓈒 he's afraid of being a burden , of being too much 𓈒

he's not typically a fussy little guy but if lottie is overstepping in her attempts to parent him , using petnames or asking too many silly questions he'll get upset 𓈒 he'll let out a frustrated grunt , a scream if he must , face screwing up and tears beginning to fall uncontrollably 𓈒 lottie will be shocked , and immediately apologize feeling upset with herself 𓈒 she never meant to make nat upset 𓈒 van might have to pull her aside and explain why he's frustrated but there are no hard feelings 𓈒 nat will offer her one of van's toys , his favorite dinosaur to let her know he still loves her 𓈒

van doesn't smoke , but although they habor some negative feelings toward the habit they never shame nat or make him feel guilty 𓈒 while they don't actively encourage him smoking they're supportive of him coping in a way that works for him 𓈒 he's always looking out for his brother and although he might pull faces or complain about the smell it's all light hearted 𓈒

sometimes nat and lottie will smoke together 𓈒 while nat prefers smoking alone , it's nice to have a buddy to get high with and it's certainly better than her just watching him smoke 𓈒 they'll often pass a joint between fingertips , nat's fingers getting clumsy as he begins to regress 𓈒 the first time nat regressed while smoking with lottie he started to cry , something very out of character for him 𓈒 this of course worried lottie but she was never going to judge him , giving him time to explain , trying her best to get him to smile by telling him about her shoplifting skirmishes 𓈒

van will often babysit a high nat and lottie , rolling his eyes at how giggly and stupid they are 𓈒 he'll try to tell them stories and nat will keep patting his knee to show them his drawing board covered in messily scrawled questions that have nothing to do with the plot of the story but rather the irrelevant details 𓈒 van tries not to act exasperated , after all nat has a very serious look on his face but they usually give up on the story after awhile 𓈒 lottie will be enraptured in van's tale , adding in strangely philosophical comments that make nat snort in an attempt to hold back a chuckle 𓈒

Tbh I do enjoy both of these tropes mentioned-but like tweaked a little.

Like you have every right to have these tropes as an ick.

But like-personally I love seeing Selina as a maternal figure for the batkids. And for damian specifically I see her and damian havin kinda a stepmom-stepkid type relationship. Damian being kinda upset about Bruce moving on from his mother whom he adores but Bruce communicating that he'll always love Talia. Maybe not romantically anymore but because she gave him Damian and he'll always love her for that. From then on Damian begrudgingly accepting Selina as a new part of the fam and eventually seeing her as another adult whom he trusts to have his best interest at heart.

Then with the whole Ra's and Tim thing, I've noticed Ra's character overall is handled very poorly. And he's often used to prop up Tim as a character. Which-yknow. Unfortunately Characters of Color being used to put the White characters is a long since used trope. Even unconsciously.

That being said I do occasionally read the Ra's and Tim angst. But not too often cause SA is also not represented tastefully in a lot of media.

If anything I prefer Ra's manipulation to more so come from him purely trying to establish himself as an important figure in Tim's life. Not quite a father figure (though I have seen that before) but more so as someone Tim is loyal to. Because Tim's loyalty is fucking insane to have. Bro has attachment issues lmao

But anyways, no shade. This is just my personal interpretations of these tropes that make them more bearable.

I do think that it is maybe just a little bit really funny that there is a group of people on the internet in a medium-small corner of the Harry Potter fandom who absolutely live off of the idea of Severus Snape being Harry Potter's father. were we all depraved of good father figures or do we just live off of the found family trope?

yeah im trying to be civil about this considering. i mean one. it doesnt really matter and two. nobody actually enjoys arguing online 😭 im trying to make this as not-an-argument as possible. although i do have some more points to say.

When you brought up how “Nathan didn’t ACTUALLY kill Rachel because he’s surprised to see what he thought was Rachel” I think this could be a SUPPORTING point on why Nathan didn’t kill Rachel, but definitely not a proving point as you use it here.

Max has very similar build to Rachel, and not only does Nathan see just the clothes at first, but it’s still possible to be genuinely surprised at first to see someone you thought you killed. Especially when you deal with all of Nathan’s issues. It doesn’t prove anything.

Plus, regardless of this, Jefferson himself said Nathan overdosed Rachel. Nathan killed Rachel bottom line— on purpose or not.

Continuing on that, for discussion sake, Jefferson also says that Nathan did it an attempt to mimic what Jefferson was doing.

Of course, this could be because of his inflated ego or because of how lowly he views Nathan, but we also know that Nathan was desperate to get approval from his “father figure.” The idea of Nathan “handling” and photographing Rachel when Jefferson was away, or even having done it all by himself (I have an upcoming post about this idea to elaborate if you’re interested. Not making it just because of this, but more of just analyzing for analyzing’s sake), to try and gain his approval really isn’t far fetched at all.

The only thing I can think of that could go against this (Nathan trying to follow in Jefferson’s footsteps + Killing Rachel) was when Nathan said he didn’t WANT to hurt her in his voicemail. However, not only does “not want to” not equal “didn’t at all.” But it’s also honestly just really hard to just take his word for it in general.

Now, I’m heavily paraphrasing off another user (arcadiabaytornado) here when I say this, but I really agree with it: Nathan only confesses to what he did when Jefferson is coming for him— or, in the Sacrifice Chloe ending, when he’s arrested for her murder— He only decides to confess when he’s beyond screwed. He waited until he was in such deep shit that the consequences of his actions no longer mattered. It’s hard to believe he really felt THAT sorry about it when he only waits until it doesn’t affect anything anymore.

I honestly could go on and on about this one topic but this isn’t really the point, and I want to mention your next point.

You say Nathan’s eyes are dilated like it’s a fact but, with the art style, it’s definitely not that clear.

His eyes do look a bit odd but that could either EASILY be attributed to the art style, or by just the fact that it was pitch dark outside and the flash of the camera caught Nathan’s naturally-dilated-to-see-in-the-dark eyes.

Or maybe even that it was decided by one or both of them to get Nathan on some drugs for the photoshoot to make it more realistic— Or maybe even Nathan took some drugs after he overdosed Rachel as he was rightfully freaking out. Or maybe Jefferson edited it in later on.

I’m just trying to say you should’t see one little detail or possibility and decide to make a fact out of it.

Loose strings is an understatement here. There’s almost a million different things all of these could mean. What you said is more of just your own speculation or even headcanons. Which is fine, truly, but you’re calling them straight facts and telling me to get educated.

I do agree Nathan is a well written character and does go into the darker side of mental health, but he’s also a character about privilege and the nuances of bad people.

I understand you might find comfort in your interpretation of Nathan, and I think that’s fine— good even— but not so much when you’re stating your own speculations as pure facts.
