Why do they need to be so loud? Why can’t they just shove him into a cupboard and leave him alone? He’s so tired. The adults keep talking, but Harry doesn’t try to listen to them anymore. Why bother? They will do with him whatever they want, either way. That’s how it will always be.

Serious Business

(Look. LOOK. I am a big big fan of twisting canon, as attested by my ridiculously long series of AUs that mostly feature Harry getting to live somewhere besides Privet Drive, with events afterwards going ever so slightly sideways, minor differences building to send the plot off on a new course that gradually gets further and further from the original. But! Sometimes, it is kind of nice to write a fic that takes a sharp left turn as soon as possible.)

In hindsight, perhaps taking off just as night really started to settle over the landscape hadn’t been the best of ideas. Too late to turn back, though, so Harry kept on hurrying down the dark streets, dragging his school trunk with one hand and carrying Hedwig’s empty cage with the other. He didn’t have much of a destination in mind yet, aside from the rather short and to the point Away.

Away from Privet Drive. Away from Marge and the Dursleys. Away from too many chores and too few meals and far too much ‘boy’ and ‘freak’ hurled at him all through the day.

It took a moment too long to notice the swerving headlights.

Harry’s only warning came in the form of a sudden increase in brightness, before a hand seized onto the loose material of his shirt and heaved. The car never so much as honked, nor did it bother to slow down afterward - whatever drunk fool drove it simply continued on their merry way, swerving back and forth across the road, bumping up onto the sidewalks every so often. From his new position lying on a lawn, heart rapidly pounding and mouth abruptly dry, Harry watched it go with wide eyes.

And then he looked at the man crouching over him. “Uh. Thanks?”

“Are you alright?” The stranger rasped.

“I- I think so?” Harry did a quick check up and down his body: no broken bones, thankfully, though he might develop a bruise or three from the hard landing. Beyond that, his trunk looked to be intact, though Hedwig’s cage sported new dents in several of the metal bars. Thank Merlin she hadn’t been in it at the time.

The man made a small noise, gesturing at the cage. “I can, fix that, if you’d like. Probably.”

“Oh- sure. Thank you.” Harry cautiously held it over, squinting to try and get a better look at his mystery savior. There wasn’t all that much to see, really, besides matted hair and ragged clothes. He did blink, though, when the man pulled out a wand. “You’re a wizard?”

“Yeah. Reparo.” The bent bars straightened out slowly, squealing a bit as the metal shifted. Both Harry and the stranger winced at the shrill sound. “Sorry- new wand. Doesn’t like me very much.”

“That’s okay,” Harry said. “At least it worked, yeah?” Hedwig’s cage looked more or less right again, a couple of wobbles the only indication something had been amiss at all. “Thanks, again.”

“Don’t mention it,” the man replied, mouth twitching like he wanted to smile. “You, ah. You’re not exactly out for a stroll, are you?”

Harry winced again, glancing back the way he’d come. “Erm.”

“It’s alright, I- I’m not strolling myself, either. Know where you're going, at least?”

After a beat, the boy shook his head.

“Ah. Well. Something else we’ve got in common, then.” Pausing, the man shook his head, before offering a hand to shake. “I'm Padfoot.”

“Harry.”

“Nice to meet you, Harry. Especially since neither of us got flattened by that car.”

“Yeah, definitely. Um. I should- I should get going...” He stood and reached for his trunk, only to stall indecisively, looking up and down the road.

“Harry,” Padfoot said, “There’s a- a bridge, couple miles from here. Decent shelter, for a night’s sleep. Just- not a great hiding place, if someone comes looking.”

...he hadn’t thought there might be homeless wizards before, but supposed they’d likely just never been in places he’d visited before. “I don’t- I think I should keep moving. I don’t really want to be found, right now.”

“Yeah, ‘course. Well. Ah. There’s a- somewhere I know that’s, a better hiding place. If you need one.”

“Where?”

Padfoot stayed quiet for a long moment, staring at the ground before he answered. “It’s, my old home. When I was a kid. Lot of- lot of bad memories. Even if it is empty now. Haven’t been back in years, I- I haven’t-” A short, bitter bark of a laugh tore out from his throat. “Don’t seem to have enough Gryffindor courage left in me to handle seeing it.”

“...well,” Harry said carefully, “I’m a Gryffindor.”

“Yeah?”

“Yeah. Kind of a stupid one, sometimes, but- definitely more than enough courage to go around. Where’s your old home?”

Very, very stupid, and Hermione would have a lot of things to say about this if Harry ever told her. But Padfoot looked at him with an expression of such aching, honest gratitude, that Harry couldn’t even berate himself for volunteering to go visit a homeless wizard’s former house without knowing a damn thing about the man.

Oh well. At least if it turned out to be a trap meant to kill him, he wouldn’t have to worry about impending expulsion.

It took about three days at Number Twelve Grimmauld Place for the whole, awful, unhappy story to come out. Didn’t exactly help that Padfoot would frequently trail off, either staring off into the middle distance, or gazing at Harry with so much profound grief that the boy couldn’t bear to ask any further questions.

But. By the end of those three days, he’d at least gotten the basics:

One: Padfoot, also known as Sirius Black, had been illegally imprisoned for twelve years and was currently on the run from pretty much all of magical society.

Two: the man couldn’t stand to go into the private family parlor, the lower cellar, or the house’s master bedroom.

Three: the house itself didn’t seem to care much for Sirius, and the wizened, cantankerous old house elf named Kreacher definitely didn’t like him.

(Three and a half: saying ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ to Kreacher tended to get just as many insults in reply as not saying them at all.)

Four: Sirius had been in prison because everyone in wizarding Britain believed he’d been a Death Eater spy, who handed Harry’s parents over to Voldemort on a silver platter right before the end of the war; Harry needed to sit down for a while after learning that tidbit.

Five, and possibly the most important: Sirius also happened to be Harry’s godfather. Or dogfather, or however he wanted to say it. Mainly- he held a legal right to look after Harry, but thanks to being framed and locked up and then escaping, that right wasn’t likely to be recognized by a court any time soon.

Still. It made Harry feel a lot better about having followed the man home.

After all the rest of that, Sirius also told him about Peter Pettigrew, and how he'd escaped from Azkaban after seeing the other Animagus alive and well in a picture printed by the Daily Prophet. His vague plan had been to check up on Harry while waiting for the rat to come back into the country, then go kill him, as Sirius had meant to do twelve years beforehand. Harry, who'd known Scabbers ever since Ron pulled him out on the Hogwarts Express when they first met, had a bit of a hard time picturing him as a fully grown man pretending to be an ordinary pet. Still. He agreed with getting justice, with clearing his godfather's name. He just didn't think that Sirius, who'd sometimes startle from a cold draft and spend the next hour shaking, was the right person to handle the situation.

So. How to convince an escapee that he really should take some time to recover before going after the man who'd framed him?

“I bet we could probably go abroad somewhere.”

“Hm?” Sirius looked up from his tea, blinking at Harry across the kitchen table. “Abroad?”

“Yeah. If I’m in trouble for using magic on Marge and you’re on the run anyway, why shouldn’t we go to another country, some place that doesn’t like Britain and probably wouldn’t mind us hanging around?” He pressed a little further. "We could probably buy you a better wand, too, instead of a stolen one."

“...yeah,” his godfather said slowly, a bit of light entering his eyes. “Yeah, we could- we could try that. There are some countries on that middle ground of Europe and Asia that ought to love getting one over on our Ministry.”

Harry started to grin. “Anywhere with flying carpets?”

“I think we could manage that.”

It took another week of tricky negotiating through owl mail, but Sirius managed to get access to his Gringotts vaults. (“More than one?” “Oh, sure, there’s the Ancestral Black Family Vault, that thing’s ancient and huge. But aside from it, there have to be a dozen smaller accounts for cadet branches, special projects, trust funds, so on and so forth. They tend to be reabsorbed into the big one when whoever was using them dies, but not always, so I’ve got to argue to be granted permission to access them too.”) Once the goblins reached a point of agreeing not to turn information about Sirius over to the Aurors, he also requested that Harry’s trust vault be added to his list of accounts, sheltered under the aegis of the Black rather than Potter family.

“I could technically do this by myself,” Sirius told him, when they looked over a reply from the bank. “If I were actually recognized by the Ministry as your guardian. Since I’m not, we’re using an older wardship legal term to get ahold of your money, which needs your willing participation for them to accept it. Alright, got the pin? Prick your finger and press the blood here...”

After a few more rounds of letters, they managed to pull it off. The Black Account manager sent over a thick folder containing a complete list of assets Sirius could use - poor Hedwig strained to get the thing through their window. It landed on the library table with a heavy whump, and once they got the binding strings undone, extra layers began unfolding. Harry stared as stack after stack of parchment flopped out, completely covering the polished oak surface which itself was longer than he was tall. To make matters worse, each individual page looked to be utterly full of words and figures, tinier than even Hermione’s most painstakingly extra-detailed notes.

He aimed a stunned expression up at Sirius, who merely looked resigned. “Merlin. And here I thought I’d escaped the ruddy homework assignments.”

They had time, at least. Thanks to Kreacher’s begrudging assistance, no one on the outside realized Number Twelve was inhabited once more, and the ancient family wards kept anyone from getting inside, either. Sirius figured they were safe from Aurors - magical policemen - at least for a while. There’d been one search already before he and Harry arrived; apparently some spells had gotten placed to keep an eye on things afterward, but the house went and ate them.

(“Old family homes don’t exactly take kindly to people not of the family leaving magic behind without permission,” the man explained with a wry grin. The corners of the room they were in at the time creaked ominously; possibly the house itself agreeing.)

Eventually, paperwork straightened out, Gringotts sent them a set of enchanted items to make withdrawal of funds much simpler. Basically, at the bank itself, a vault was set up to hold a certain amount of galleons, refilling at the end of each week. Connected were two drawstring coin purses and two leather wallets designed in a muggle style; each of those could hold a certain amount of money as well, refilling every night. Sirius took the larger pair, effectively carrying around several thousand galleons that only he could access. Harry’s set didn’t go quite as high, but Sirius insisted he still needed enough to look after himself in an emergency - food, shelter, transportation, so on and so forth. It still gave him a start to open up his new wallet for the first time and see several hundred pound notes in the billfold.

His godfather also sent in an updated will. He didn’t hesitate to share the official-looking document, which indicated that in the event of his death Harry got pretty much everything, and was designated into the legal care of a Black cousin, Andromeda Tonks, until he came of age.

...after a bit of a tearful pause, Harry asked if he could make a will as well. He didn’t have much, of course, but- it was the principle of the thing. Making sure his Nimbus went to Ron, and Hedwig to Hermione, plus a few other things. As well as transferring the contents of his trust vault to Mr. and Mrs. Weasley, in thanks for being so wonderfully kind to him the previous summer. Maybe they wouldn’t have to wait for another newspaper prize to take the whole family on vacation again.

“Ready?”

Harry double checked the straps of his new knapsack, then picked up his equally new duffel bag and grinned. “Ready.”

Sirius held out an arm, also bearing recently purchased luggage and clothes and disguised with some Glamour spells. Harry took hold, and they Apparated away from Grimmauld Place to a hidden corner of Heathrow Airport. Dressed like average muggles off for a brief holiday, Sirius quickly purchased a couple of tickets without any trouble, before he and Harry set off to get through the security screenings. The Undetectable Expansion charms on their luggage thankfully didn’t attract any notice, and the bags were small enough to be kept as carry-on items.

Within a couple of nerve wracking hours, the pair watched with building excitement as their plane drifted out onto the runway, Harry by the window and Sirius in-between him and the aisle. Taking off came with a great deal of noise, and by the time they actually lifted off the ground, Harry found his hand being gripped almost painfully by his godfather. “You alright?” He whispered.

“Give me a bloody broomstick any day,” Sirius muttered back. After a beat, they shared a chuckle, which very quickly developed into genuine, if muffled, laughter. Outside the window, England dropped away from sight.

To Whoever Handles This Sort of Thing,

 I’m still not entirely certain if I’ve already been expelled for using magic on a muggle or not, but I’ve decided to send this note just in case. It was an accident, and I’m sorry for losing control, but that woman was saying awful things about my parents with the intention of getting a rise out of me, and she got her wish.

 Anyway. I ran away right after, so I don’t know who came, or what the official consequences were. Something like this happened last summer, when a house elf who didn’t want me going back to Hogwarts did- something- to make it seem like I’d cast a Hovering Charm, and a letter came right away warning about underage magic and how I would be expelled after a repeat.

 You don’t need to bother, if you haven’t already. I don’t think I’m going back to school - not this year, at least. I mean- nothing against Hogwarts, it was the first place I ever felt at home, and I’ll miss my friends and Quidditch and most of the teachers- but I found a family member who actually wants custody of me, except he can’t get it, and I don’t want to leave him alone. We’ve also sent letters to the Aurors and some other people, so they can at least try to straighten it out, but until Peter Pettigrew gets caught and Sirius is proven innocent, I’m not leaving him by himself.

 Just in case something happens, I made a will with Gringotts, and I left my school supplies to Hogwarts - I figure if I don’t get to use them again, they could be donated to students without enough money to pay for their own things. I promise the potions cauldron isn’t too badly scorched.

 That should be everything. I’m not entirely certain who’s going to be reading this, but if you could please tell the headmaster and my professors that I’m sorry for skipping out like this. (Well. All of them except Snape. I bet he’ll be delighted I’m gone, in all honesty.)

Stealing Harry is a Harry Potter fanfic I wrote beginning in roughly 2003 -- I'm not sure when I ended but it was posted across a couple of years, because it had several sequels. It's an AU written before the books were complete (it was begun before book five came out, and the last full chapter was posted sometime around the time book seven did) where Sirius never goes to Azkaban and instead ends up, along with Remus, taking Harry away from the Dursleys when Harry is eight. Stealing Harry basically only covers about a year, but the sequels cover up through Harry's third year at Hogwarts as a total AU.

somehow didn’t realize he could be gay til around 3rd year- thought since he was a guy he had to date women. he was not happy about that

he and lily went on one date to hogsmeade (james cried but gave his blessing) and he ended up coming out to both her and himself at the three broomsticks

they fake dated for a while until he eventually came out to the other marauders and for the most part james was just thrilled to find out lily was single

sirius didn’t react as well but only because he had a baby crush on remus that he didn’t understand yet and was pissed when remus started dating kingsley around 5th year

the other marauders know he’s trans starting 3rd year because of a mixup between them finding out he’s a werewolf and trans

“we know what you are” “okay yes i’m trans” “you’re a werewo- wait what”

alternatively he tells them he’s trans to cover up for his monthly clinic visits when they start catching on to his lycanthropy

5th year he starts hormones and sirius goes insane because his voice is getting deeper

remus dates a couple different guys to distract himself from his growing crush on sirius who is growing out this stupid beard that definitely doesn’t make him want to jump his bones

sirius finally comes out as bi and has a fling with a guy in their year that ends because he’s too in love with remus

they have a weird back and forth for a while until they kiss 6th year and finally start dating (peter called it, james is floored, lily is just glad remus will shut up about sirius’s hair finally. she is wrong.)

they are obsessed with each other, get promise rings 7th year.

Remus keeps having pregnancy scares and Pomfrey is so close to strangling him

“just because you’re on testosterone doesn’t mean you won’t get pregnant remus! here’s a condom.”

sirius and james pay for remus’s top surgery when they graduate- he feels terrible about taking the money but they insist.

they want to get married but decide to wait until after the war

remus isn’t sure he wants kids but as soon as harry is born he’s a complete mess

he immediately asks sirius if they can have one

sirius is thrilled and they start planning for a baby as soon as the war is over

that obviously doesn’t happen and remus is devastated, swearing off the idea of having kids entirely.

after sirius gets out of azkaban they discuss it again but decide that it’s once again not the right time and besides, they have harry now.

and then

oops! they got too carried away and it happened anyways

they have a daughter because wolfstar girldads are so important to me

harry is deeply confused when he’s first told because he had no idea remus was trans or that they were together

he comes around and is a very proud older brother to the little one, doting on her constantly

no one dies and they all live 60 more years as a happy family

Hear me out:

Sirius travels to the future and goes to Hogwarts, he sees Remus as a professor and flirts with him and that kind of shit. It’s an au where Sirius in that timeline hasn’t escaped from Azkaban. He questions shit and Remus eventually tells him that he killed Lily, James and Peter and that he’s now in Azkaban and he can’t accept it, he has a mental breakdown. He finds out about what happened to the others like Marlene, Dorcas, Evan, Barty, Mary, Pandora etc. And he sees Luna yk and thinks about Pandora and he’s like “wait I thought Pandora was with Lily?”

then together they figure out what really happened cuz they see Peter on the marauders map. And they deal with him.

Then Sirius sees Harry and goes: “holy shit he looks just like James!! Am I an uncle?” And when Harry gets a little closer, he goes: “wait- his eyes? Why does he have blue eyes?” And Remus has to explain to him that Regulus joined the death eaters and died when he was 17 and that Harry’s mother is Lily and Sirius goes through another mental breakdown. And after he’s calmed down, he’s like: “so I’m not his uncle?” And Remus is like: “you’re the godfather.” And Sirius cheers up a little.

And when he sees that Harry is in love with Draco he is like: why do the potters have smth for the snarky, sad, depressed, Slytherin seekers who’s mean to them. And ppl from the black family. (I count Draco as a black cuz Narcissa is a black so yeah) (Regulus and Draco both getting the dark mark cuz they were forced😭😭😭)

and when Harry gets a tiny crush on ginny sirius goes like: HIS BEST MATES SIBLING?! OH LOOK HOW FUNNY SHES A GINGER TOO! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? See moony I told you it’s in his genes. (You can decide yourself if it’s endgame hinny or Drarry)

And he sees the Weasley twins and he’s like: “they’re my new idols!!” And Remus is like: “We’re their idols actually”

And he sees himself and James in Ron and Harry.

And after a few months when Sirius has caught up with everything, he flirts with Remus and is like: “you know moony I’m horny” and Remus is like: “well I can’t do anything about it, that would be pedophilia” and Sirius is like disappointed. But they eventually have sex (help😭Sirius is like 15 or 16 btw) and Sirius is like: “yOuR cOcK hAs GrOwN”. They take every chance they get to make out. And Remus is like: “oh how much I’ve missed this, missed you”

(They’re at Hogwarts btw) (it’s up to you if he pretends like he’s a student or if he’s hiding in Remus’ room) (but some professors would know if Sirius pretended like he was a student) (maybe he goes in disguise with polyjuice potion or smth?)

(He meets Harry if he’s just hiding and tells him everything but if you decide him to disguise as a student then he just watches from afar and doesn’t talk to him often.)

Remus asks him if this counts as cheating on his past self. And Sirius is like: “no you’re still you, so cheating on you with you is impossible”

Mcgonagall finds out about Sirius but doesn’t tell anyone.

Oh and it takes place during PoA and GoF. But the events just don’t happen, it’s like a normal Hogwarts year. So yeah no voldy coming back. Or no Sirius escaping Azkaban.

You can decide if Remus stays at Hogwarts during GoF or not, like the events didn’t happen so he doesn’t have to leave. But it’s up to you if he leaves and lives with Sirius in his house during GoF. But they’re definitely at Hogwarts during PoA.

and a bit to the end of GoF they figure out a way to send Sirius back to the 70s. Sirius says goodbye to everyone and leaves (Remus is like FUCKING sad cuz he has no one left) and as soon as Sirius is back he begs his brother to run away with him so that that terrible things don’t happen and he talks to James and Remus about Peter, and they do smth to fix that.

So yeah that was it

I'm a LOUD AND PROUD HUFFLEPUFF! BADGERS UNITE! Seriously, literally every test I have ever taken, Pottermore or otherwise, good and bad, has put me in Hufflepuff. I am so agressively Puff it's not even funny. My secondary house is Ravenclaw, and my Ilvermorny house is (probably) Pukwudgie.

I put waaaaayyyyy too much in my tags, seriously (siriusly. Heh). Check the tags of any post I put tags on, and you will find at least half of them are disorganized rambling.

I currently cannot pick a favorite marauder. I love them all too much. My favorite HP character is probably Ginny Weasley.

I am very much a book fan, not a movie fan. I've read all the books at least 5 times, but have read the Sorceror's Stone and The Prisoner of Azkaban more times than I can count. I have watched the first 3 movies all the way through once and have only seen the later movies in bits and pieces. I don't hate them, but they're not my favorites.

In case you didn't catch it in that last paragraph, I'm American, and nothing I write will be Britpicked. Sorry.

I love Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, but I don't watch them on official platforms because JKR sucks. I don't have a favorite character; Newt, Tina, Queenie, and Jacob are all favorites.

While I loved Harry Potter as a kid and have a deep emotional attachment to it, it is a children's book with a LOT of worldbuilding and story issues. I like to use the world and magic as a sandbox to play in, less as a strict rule.

I don't really care too hard on ships. My aroace ass honestly says "the less you focus on it the better," but if you write it well, any dynamic can be good. That said, my usual likes are as follows:

Marauders: wolfstar (I'm basic trash), jily (again, basic trash), peter thinks everyone is hot but never gets to seriously date anyone r.i.p., marlene mckinnon/mary macdonald (although marlene has a fat crush on Dorcas Meadowes that never really goes away), Dorcas Meadowes/Pandora Lovegood, and optional Rosekiller but I get sad if we spend too much time with the Slytherins.

HP: Ron/Hermoine, Ginny/Harry if you like or Ginny/Luna if you don't, Perciver, dislike Tonks/Lupin but I don't care that much, and I really really don't give a shit about anyone else.

I hate muggle AUs with a burning passion (no shame if you like them, just not my cup of tea), but I do like it when we get to let the wizards use muggle tech and in general be more integrated into the muggle world.

Peter Pettigrew is a marauder and I will DIE on this hill. I will defend this slimy turncoat disaster rat man to the end of my life. Please fight me, I'm excited.

and literally everything changed, bc this is a 36 year old man that survived a decade in Azkaban. he's rough around the edges, traumatized and aged, way more than teenage him should be. the timeline will inevitably change.

plus, the new Sirius comes with an unhealthy attachment, protectiveness and devotion to jily. It changes his relationship with them, it changes them bc they don't understand why he's suddenly so clingy

Sirius is also going insane because he's changing events from the original timeline, he's changing his relationships with the only two people he's in love with, and by doing so, the Jily of this timeline will never be his Jily and there's nothing he can do about it. he has changed too much so nothing can be the same. But it's a sacrifice he has to make for the greater good (mostly so they can survive)

not only that, this is like the third time Sirius has to pine uselessly after jily. The first is bc they were dating..? Like they were never going to look his way like that afterwards. Second was after their deaths, so it was literally set in stone that Sirius can't do anything about his feelings for them. Third is now, because yes Sirius still loves Jily but they aren't his Jily, he loves them yes, but they aren't the same people.

And worst of all? Harry isn't here.

His Jily will always be so out of reach for him and he spends the first years of his new life missing them, grieving them all while fighting to make sure this Jily survives.

He's trying to accept this was going to be his entire life, all full of unrequited feelings. (He does not succeed)

But then what if one day Lily and James start staring at each other confusedly and everyone around them? And they suddenly seem like a settled couple that has been dating for years when they just went on their fifth date? What if similarly to Sirius, they changed so much they almost barely seem recognizable?

How will Sirius react when he hears them mourn for 'Harry'?

He tells them what happened that night, how he went to Azkaban, how he escaped because he found out Peter was still alive, that he escaped to avenge them, how he met Harry.

He tells them all about Harry, every detail he could remember, whether the color of his eyes changed, how he liked his eggs, what he usually does with Ron and Hermione, everything he could remember about Harry's Hogwarts events.

And they just soak it up.

Sirius is literally talking about their son and of course they love it because they never got to know him but they also hate it because they are never going to know him, because he's not here and he never will be.

They are the only three people to grieve for harry, to mourn losses in a future that will never happen, all unresolved feelings they keep for each other.

but through this, Jily develops a type of trust and appreciation for Sirius that he doesn't expect. he doesn't realize it, but they notice the amount of loyalty and love Sirius must have for them if he survived and escaped Azkaban just to hunt down their killer, for Harry, through his stories alone.

So their love for him grows. Abundantly. Until he starts to fit into their relationship. And eventually, Jilypad happens!

Whoop!! We are finally back on track. I wrote 31,765 words this week, it was a slog and half as I mixed up some date fests 🤦‍♀️. I uploaded 7 fics this week, but 3 are unrevelaed until the 29th!

But as always, first is the fic recs.

The Lesson of You - thecouchsofa - Harry Potter (Harry/Draco, kid fic)

Summary: Harry likes kids. That doesn't mean he's ready for a small boy to turn up on the doorstep of Grimmauld Place insisting that Harry is his father. That was weird enough, but the child identifying Draco Malfoy as his other parent was something Harry had no bloody idea how to handle.

Not All That Glitters (Is Good For Your Health) - comatosecombat - The Hobbit (Bilbo/Thorin)

Summary: In his attempt to distract Smaug from attacking Lake-town, Bilbo accidentally destroys the One Ring of Power, saves the day and brings peace on Middle-Earth.

When it comes to him and Thorin, that resolves absolutely nothing.

The Herd of Durin - DomesticGoddess - The Hobbit (Bilbo/Thorin, Centaur Au, as we know in the Bagginshield fandom, Domestic Godessess' fics are phenominal, this is my fav of ALL their work!)

Summary: Thorin's herd is the last of the Durin Tribe. Between dwindling food supplies, a mare shortage, and an increasing human population, Thorin has his hands full trying to keep his herd alive. Thorin knows, despite his best efforts, its only a matter of time before the Khuzd centaurs face extinction. At least, he though he did. Everything changes when he discovers a strange  a strange little pony centaur who smells like a mare, but looks like a stallion.

Take me as I am - phiaura - The Witcher (TV) (Geralt/Jaskier, AWAU)

Summary: Thus, a deal was struck, a treaty agreed upon. Rivia would not take military action against any allied kingdom and in turn, the kingdoms would provide the king of Rivia with a consort. So far, that last bit was the part of the treaty that had gone to shit. As far as Jaskier had understood, up to now the White Wolf had turned down all the proffered brides. If a consort was not approved, the treaty would be null and void.

Where Jaskier is the last chance of fulfilling the requirements of a treaty between the warlord of Rivia, and the allied kingdoms. Will it prove to be his rescue or his doom?

Summary: An everybody lives fanfic that follows the Marauders from before their first year to the end of Hogwarts - may include mentions of their children/marriages and future stuff because I can. Dumbledore is a douchebag, Voldemort doesn't exist and the Black cousins join together before the elder Blacks start burning that damn family tree

Green-Handed - lotus0kid - The Hobbit (Bilbo/Thorin)

Summary: Post-BotFA, while Thorin, Fili, and Kili are slowly recovering from their wounds, Bilbo finds himself subject to a condition that hobbits might experience at a few very particular times in their lives, under very particular circumstances, none of which apply to him. Very confused (and somewhat embarrassed) he decides to keep it a secret during this delicate time in the mountain. This goes about as well as you might expect.

Why he thought his siblings would have at least a small amount of decorum he doesnt know, he thinks as he watches Viktor get interrigated and the rest if his siblings cheat at snakes and ladders, because of course they do!

Summary: It has been 6 months since the Battle of Hogwarts. 6 months since George's twin, his best friend, was ripped away from him. And now its Bonfire night, a night both Fred and George had loved their entire lives.

Summary: Thorin's hands have always been warm, always been strong.

What was Bellatrix like after Azkaban? How did it impact her and her relationships?

Anon I have to be honest, I hate fanon interpretation and the more I watch the movies the less I enjoy HBC's interpretation too. Don't get me wrong she's an exceptional actress and I absolutely fell in love with her the moment we saw her on screen but her version of Bellatrix is very very ooc from book canon.

There are some aspects of her I absolutely love from the films, but honestly book Bellatrix is where its at. Now, we don't know what Bellatrix was like pre-Azkaban. We get snippets of her but everything else we get is from Harry's perspective and he thinks her simultaneously repulsive and attractive.

So here's my take on post-Azkaban Bellatrix:

Mentally changed - no, not insane. Not in the way the films showed. I think she was marked criminally insane when she was sentenced to life in Azkaban however the actual meaning of 'criminally insane' is: not being responsible for ones criminal actions because of a mental disorder. She was fully aware of what she was doing and she did it all with pride for the love of her life and likely also because every action she took acted on her own personal beliefs that muggleborns and halfbloods and muggles are below her.

Similarly, a personal headcanon - she is mentally changed because she's been occluding so deeply and for so long. I think her perceptions of reality are slightly distorted, I think her perception of time is completely thrown off and I think this is because she was locked in a cell for 14 years and unable to be with the love of her life who she knew was alive but no one else believed her and she couldn't do anything about it.

I see her physically changed too. I think Azkaban didn't leave her too thin for too long and too ragged looking (like HBC's version with the birds nest hair and disgusting teeth) considering witches have a lovely little thing called magic... and Bellatrix also strikes me as too conceited to let herself look that bad. She was described 'feverish' in the department of mysteries but I personally put this down to bloodlust like a predator finally released from its cage. I think she practiced a lot of wandless dark magic in her cell whether it was rune marking - with her own blood too probably. I don't think she just sat there and rot away. I think she went deep into her magic while she occluded, calling to the stars to keep her love safe and so on.

Relationships:

Rodolphus. I think she missed him. I will forever headcanon they are best friends (who also happen to have very good sex) and they get on like a house on fire but Voldemort was always the one she felt that chemistry and deeper rooted passion with. I think they likely grow closer post-Azkaban.

Narcissa. This one is complicated. I think Narcissa is a little apprehensive of Bellatrix this time around. I think Bellatrix is a lot darker than she remembers, I think Narcissa sees a lot more of Voldemort in her sister and she begins to really resent it. I can imagine however that there's something about her darkness that Narcissa likes...something she can't resist getting close to given she too is a Black.

Voldemort. I think they find their rhythm fairly quickly. I think they spend a lot of time together, even if its just relearning each other. I think he doesn't see her as any different - if anything, he thinks her more beautiful. I think they spend every night together, I imagine her clingy and him for once not minding it. Their passion goes through the roof and I think Voldemort wants to indulge in her again and again for months on end (I mean with canon Delphi, how did that happen? Lots of hot filthy toe curling sex).

Delphini. in which of course I mean my AU where she's trio era. Now this one I think is more complicated. I love to headcanon that Delphini looks a lot like Bellatrix. I like to think Bellatrix finds her hard to look at for exactly that reason. She sees what she used to be in her daughter. I think physically she restrains herself from affection for a long time because she mentally can't take looking at her. However, I think eventually they start to heal and things will go back to normal.

Death Eaters. I don't doubt for one second every single one of them is shit scared of Bellatrix. I think they know her reputation well since pre-Azkaban and now she's even more ruthless they're not for a second going to test her.

Family: she's come out of prison 14 years and everyone she loved in her family (save Narcissa) is dead. That's a lot to wrap your head around. She loses her father, her Aunt, her Uncle (though I do like to HC Orion dies just before she goes to Azkaban) and she and Cissa are the last Blacks.

An AU Idea I had

So I have heard from some people that if friendships last more than 7 (or 10 - I forget which), it lasts a lifetime.

The Marauders met on the 1st of September, 1971. While it is difficult to say whether they became friends instantly (like James and Sirius did, but I am not sure about the other two) or not. But it is safe to say that they did cross the 7 year mark right after they left for Hogwarts. (And assuming they became friends instantly, September of 1981 would have been their 10 year anniversary.)

So let's take the wizarding world. The whole friendship for a lifetime thing. Love and friendship are important themes in the Harry Potter saga, so let's take it a bit further. If you have been friends with someone for a certain period of time, you are bound to be their friend for a lifetime. You can choose the number - either 7 (the number with the most magical significance in the series) or 10 (a special number, which feels more significant when specifying the length of time spend together)

With 10:

For the 10 year friendship thing, I figured that they'd have to be friends instantly for their 10 year anniversary to fall before James dies. Now this gives us a period of 2 months - all of September + most of October (or even all). Let us consider 31st October to be the actual date their friendship started (like Harry, Ron and Hermione)

For the 10 year thing, idk I just figured Peter is really content with being friends with them. He still does spy, but he tries not to let his friends be the ones in danger. (The list eventually also includes Lily and Harry.)

Until the prophecy.

Until Harry Potter is Voldemort's newest target, and there is no way Peter can convince James to just hand over Harry. Peter knows, that James would die for Harry, if it came down to it. But it's okay, he figures. They'll go into hiding. He just doesn't have to know where, so Voldemort wouldn't find out either.

Enter Sirius and the brilliant plan.

Exit James and Lily.

Wait, wait, a whole bunch of stuff happens in between.

Peter doesn't want to betray his friends, not really. He doesn't want James, Lily and Harry to be in danger, because he does love them. But he loves living more.

So, when he becomes the Secret Keeper, and Voldemort asks him for the Potters' location, he gives it. Belatedly, he remembers, that their 10 year anniversary is coming up. That it is tomorrow - Halloween. If James dies on Halloween, the 10 year pact wouldn't really have kicked in, per say. Peter would be fine. He hopes.

He prays that James and Lily just let Harry die - atleast they'd survive. But he doesn't dare ask Voldemort that.

Now we're back to the 'Exit James and Lily' part.

But of course, the bond doesn't kick in - not really, not until the 31st of October is over. Somehow, Peter ends up cursed anyway.

Sirius Black confronts Peter on the 1st of November, 1981. Hours after the 10 year anniversary of their friendship. Peter betrays Sirius. Peter blows up the street. Sirius goes to Azkaban. Peter ends up cursed.

James seems to haunt Peter - a ghost only he can see. Keeps haunting him, keeps guilt tripping him, keeps blaming him, and most of all, keeps wanting to be with his son. It drives Peter crazy. He is unable to do anything about it because as far as anyone else is concerned, he is dead. So if he makes a reappearance to get help, he is dead. And he is worried that if he stays like this, he will kill himself.

(Ofc James is not really there. James cannot be forced to spend the rest of his existence haunting Peter. James is wherever dead people are - not with the living. Peter's magic, having bonded with the other 3, seems to be going against him for what he did to them. James is just the only one who could reasonably haunt Peter, so his magic (or head) conjures up images of James.)

(Or it could go a different way. Maybe they become friends on Sirius' birthday. Maybe Peter had James killed and framed Sirius right before their 10 year anniversary so he wouldn't be bound by the promise of a friendship lasting a lifetime (it did last a lifetime for James). Maybe Peter planned out the day. Maybe.)

With 7:

The same story really. Except, in this case Sirius is also haunted by 'James'. Yes, yes, I know Sirius did not betray James. But Sirius thinks he was (atleast partially) responsible for James' death. That guilt is enough to convince his magic that he broke the friendship pact.

The dementors ........................... do not help.

I admit, I got this idea from a Coco fanfiction called The Bedside Ghost by the amazing PengyChan. It is an amazing story and I 100% recommend everyone to check it out.

Anyway idk where I am going with this.

Ugh maybe I will write something like this one day when I have the time.
