I’m thinking of finally writing a fic I’ve been brain storming about for a while and I need some advice. It’s a modern au and I was wondering how other writers make Thorin and Bilbo translate into a modern setting if you know what I mean? I don’t want to write them OOC so tips would be much appreciated :)

I read Prayers for Rain by Azyungel today. It was really good. I like the idea of poor soggy Thorin keeping his tree friend company

Because of cultural misunderstandings thorin believes Bilbo is carrying his child. Bilbo has no idea why thorin and the company are walking on eggshells around him( pregnant dwarf women are fearsome) He would be complaining if it wasn't for the fact that someone keeps handing him snacks and sweet treats. No matter where he is or what time it is, there is now always a snack to munch on. Bilbo feels he should maybe lay off the treats after failing to fit in his newest walking vest. When he brought up the fact to thorin that he no longer fits his favorite garments, thorin and balin became a whirlwind of khuzud. There were many claps on the back from dwalin. Thorin was staring at Bilbo's stomach with the most strange expression. Bilbo wondered if his chubby mid section stood out that much?

I can imagine Bilbo shivering under blankets while waiting for his personal furnace to come to bed and heat him up.

Also can't figure out how to draw body hair, so please just imagine that it's there heh

Turns out Hamfast has been dealing with a ‘crow’ problem around the Baggins garden for the better part of the year and he’s been shooing these birds off and only when asked does he tell Bilbo.

My Heart Lies With You

Summary: Thorin is dead, and along with him every hope and dream Bilbo had for the future died too.

He may not be a Durin, but he loved liked one, and Durin's endure, so one heartbroken hobbit must too for the rest of his days.

And, as always, an excerpt:

“How do you pick up the pieces of a broken life, Balin?” Bilbo sobbed out as he stroked along Thorin’s carved cheek. “When everything that was going to be, the future you would do anything for was taken away? What do I do now Balin?” he asked through his tears, his eyes still glued on the pale imitation of Thorin’s eyes looking back at him.  “I … I do not know Bilbo. I have no answers for you, other than that we carry on. Durin’s endure, and whilst you may not have his name you had his love. You are one of us and so, like those of us left behind, you too must endure.” “I don’t want to endure,” Bilbo hissed as he turned his head enough to glare at Balin. “I don’t want to wake up every morning wishing it was all different. Wishing he was here. And yet it is all I have left. I shall return to my smial. I shall live alone for the rest of my days. And I shall endure, because to not to is to give up, something he would never be proud of me for. But I do it begrudgingly. I do it with a heavy heart. With a heart that will never be whole again Balin. I shall endure as you say, but I will be unhappy doing so,” Bilbo said as he gently lowered his head to rest his forehead against the cold stone of the only being he had or would ever love.
