oscar fumbles with the key to his and morris' apartment, cursing. finally getting in the door, he re-locks it behind him, and hangs his hat on the peg by the door. he attempts to sneak past the kitchen, where he can see the lamp-light signaling that his older brother is still awake.

"os." son of a- mission failed.

oscar stops trying to sneak, clearly having been discovered.

"mo." he grumbles back.

he hears a barely audible sigh as his brother turns in his chair to face the doorway where he stood. morris' face seems even leaner and more gaunt with the lamplight illuminating only the sharp angles of it.

"oscar, where were you? you said youse would be back by nine, and i dunno if you noticed, but it's near half past midnight." morris says quietly. that's the worst thing. when someone is mad, but they don't yell, or shout, or hit. they have the quiet anger, the kind that turns into days of silence and avoidance in disappointment and disapproval.

oscar's stomach feels heavy thinking about morris being mad at him. he hated making morris mad, hated the silent days that followed, and the bandages around both of their fists from getting their anger out on the trolley strikers.

"s'not important, i'se sorry, okay? i'll-" oscar starts.

morris' hand slams flat on the table, making oscar jump. "you'll what, os? you'll do better next time? you'll keep track of time? like every other time you've promised me that?" he shuts his eyes, working his jaw.

oscar's insides flare up with anger, and he scoffs. "yeah, well, who died and made you king? last i checked, i'm grown now, and i don't got no curfew. i don't need you breathin down my neck, youse ain't my keeper." he spits, immediately regretting it at the hardening of morris' jaw. because that's the thing.

morris is oscar's keeper. has been since their father left them at the refuge.

"mo, i-" he tries. "oscar, go to bed. uncle weas wants us early tommorow." morris' voice sounds like steel, and hits oscar somehow harder than his dad's belt.

"morris, please, i'm sorry, i didn't-"

"go to bed, oscar." morris turns back to the papers oscar hadn't noticed on the table.

seeing the tired and tense slump of his brother's shoulders makes oscar's heart feel like someone squeezed it in a juicer. morris shouldn't have to work that hard to support the two of them, already working both the odd jobs they pick up and a near full time job at the factories, and whatever weasel happens to want them to do that unfortunate day. morris shouldn't be so spent at twenty four, when pulitzer and all the high and mighties get to live like emperors, never getting their perfectly soft hands dirty.

oscar shuts his eyes for a second, before turning back towards the hall. "g'night, mo." he says over his shoulder.

he doesn't get a response.

guys I'm gonna be a hater for a minute I'm sorry but anyway on that poll someone in the tags was like janto r just basic white bitches which like. okay I see where you're coming from but like. torchwood was airing from 2006-2011 right. and I haven't watched it yet I will when I finish rewatching dw but anyway they were canon. in a mainstream tv show. which is big. and even before that in 2005 in dw jack was explicitly bisexual it's never denied it's never made into an offensive joke one of his final scenes in the first season is kissing both rose and nine on the lips on screen in 2005 and it's a really emotional scene and this was Really Big. anyway all this is just to say shut the fuck up lolll 💖💖

OH MY GOD IM SO SORRY I MEANT TO REPLY TO THIS AND THEN I JUST COMPLETELY FORGOT, SO: hello :D

This is something I think about often as well. Teammates are a weird dynamic in F1 because you're forced to compete for the same resources and against each other in the WDC, but at the same time have to still think combined for the team, for the WCC. I think teammate relationships are like being siblings or like being in a marriage(actually I think Mark has said this before haha.) You can never fully hate or separate from each other, even if you go through rough patches, because you're stuck together and have had the same experiences, for good or for worse.

Turkey 2010 is funny because I think that was one of their first bad moments as teammates, right? And I love that RBR made them take that couples therapy, "us in our get-along shirt", picture. That's what I mean by going through the same experiences, like yeah they were probably pissed at each other but were also probably bonding over the hilarity/awkwardness of RBR making them do damage control.

I just think it's probably difficult to stay upset with someone consistently when you're constantly working with them, and you've also experienced the highest highs and lowest lows with each other. I think I referenced this in my Martian champagne pics post but it's kinda funny when you look through all of those shared podiums that Mark always seemed to be way more willing to spray Seb and smile at him when Mark was the one who won(Literally 3/4 of the pics from that post when they were both at RBR were from Mark's wins.) Like it was such a "I can't stay mad at you 🤭" relationship with them. Like with Mark in particular, it feels like whenever he got a better result, he was mostly like "I shall forgive your transgressions." But then 2013 was kind of the last straw for him, with Multi-21, and especially since he really was getting crushed by Seb and not even getting any wins like in the prev years. But then, by removing himself from it all when retiring, he was able to take a step back and see what it was like to not be in constant, direct competition anymore.

Idk if I'm the best person to ask as I don't think I'm in any measures a great Martian scholar. But these are my thoughts :D I just think being teammates in such a competitive environment can result in such love-hate relationships and that Martian is one of the greatest examples of how it fluctuates. I think it'd be really difficult to try and parse when exactly they were on good or bad terms. For me, tbh I think it kinda correlates with Mark's results because I think with just that whole situation, where they were in as teammates directly competing at the very top, it was a lot easier for Mark, rather than Seb, to start feeling resentment as he was generally drawing the shorter straw most of the time.

Basically, teammates(Martian especially) are bonded through triumph and trauma
