Spy x Family's Secret Story

A few days ago, I learned something interesting at school: some stories have secret stories.

Hopefully, I can explain it: a secret story is what is not told explicitly in the narrative, but that the reader can understand by the character's behavior, thoughts or actions.

The most interesting part is that this secret story is, in many cases, what pushes the main story forward.

So, of course, I had to apply this to my sxf brainrot 😏 It took me a while to figure it out, but I think I got it...

It's one of the most celebrated panels in the manga. We finally got to see Twilight shirtless 😎 and we've enjoyed countless fanarts of it (thanks to all the wonderful artists 👏) Well, it was precisely this panel and the timing of it what made me realize about Spy x family's secret story.

This is the first time we see Twilight naked, right? This was also the first time he realized he was vulnerable.

Here, Twilight, master of disguise, best spy of Westalis, rips his disguise, admits that he has weaknesses and shows us that he's injured because of this vulnerability.

Think about the symbolism of it; a person is at their most vulnerable when naked and we didn't see him in this state until he had that conversation with Yor. Even though the arc was about catching Wheeler, the secret story of that arc was about weakness. Wheeler himself mentioned it several times and it's not a coincidence that in this arc Twilight shows weakness not once, but three times:

1. By not killing Yuri (and getting shot)

2.By getting hurt during the confrontation with Wheeler and lastly...

3.When he sees Yor again!

It's also not a coincidence that he got physically hurt because he showed weakness. I suspect it won't be the last time this happens. Keep that in mind for the future...

All this is related to that secret story l mentioned at the beginning. I think SxF secret story is precisely that, not weakness, but vulnerability.

That conversation he had with Yor was about that; she was trying to convince him to be vulnerable with her (more on that here). And his thoughts were about that too; he's telling Yor in his mind he lives in a world where he cannot be vulnerable.

And that last line!!

It's exactly what secret stories are about: unsaid things.

The fact that an arc about weakness and vulnerability started and ended with Yor and where Twilight acknowledged his weakness is very significant. Do you see it too? All this happened because of her and I think he knows it too.

Twilight's struggle with vulnerability is what pushes the story forward and ultimately what makes so many of us connect with the characters. Clearly, he's losing the battle with himself and he's trusting and relying on his wife more every day; we see it in his behavior. We all want that to happen too!

Because, what is more human than to become vulnerable because of love?

Freaky little guy I had a couple ideas for and a few of them clashed so I ended up going with him being the least human design cause that made sense in my head. I also love adding symbols and stuff into designs heheh

ALSO really struggled here but I knew I wanted Pokey to be the most human but also be impossible to Read (almost Uncanny) cause I was talking to my friend about TGWDLM last night (I looove youu;)) and that like of thinking inspired the stance and impression. Everything else? Inspiration beamed in from the Heavens I dunno man

And Finally! Last but certainly not least I wanted an equal amount of sinister and mischievous in Wigglys design. He also. Looks a bit like a pirate. I dunno what happened there though.

A Birthday Surprise to Remember

The anticipation in the air was almost touchable as you moved around the room, finishing the final touches on Gavi’s birthday surprise you’ve arranged. The space had been transformed, every corner of the room filled with decorations. Red and blue balloons floated against the ceiling, while golden balloons that spelled out ‘Feliz Cumpleaños’ (‘Happy Birthday’) shimmered in the lighting. It was a burst of colors, vibrant and full of life, just like he was. And on the bed, neatly arranged and waiting to be opened, were 20 carefully wrapped gifts, each one a symbol of the love and thought you’d poured into this night.

You couldn’t help but smile as you surveyed the decorated room. It looked perfect-exactly how you had imagined it would look. All that had been left was to keep Pablo out of the house for a little while longer, and for that, you had recruited Pedri and Fermín.

Pedri had been more than willing to help you with your plan, taking Pablo out for the evening with the promise of some friendly competition at an arcade near by. Fermín, he had been equally eager to play his part, Fermín tagged along to ensure that Pablo stayed occupied for the required time you needed. With the two of them, you were confident and trusted that they’d keep him distracted without Gavi getting suspicious.

As you finished blowing up balloons your phone buzzed, pulling you away from what you had been doing.

You could practically hear the mischief in Pedri’s voice through the scream, imagining the lengths he and Fermín have been doing ti distract your boyfriend Pablo. Knowing the two of them, Pablo probably didn’t have a clue on what was actually going on.

As time start ticking closer to midnight, you turned off the overhead lights in the room, letting the soft glow of the string lights you had hung around the room cast a nice warm, golden hue. The balloons swayed gently with the movement of the air conditioning, adding to the atmosphere she had created to celebrate in. Everything was set perfectly.

As you pulled out your phone to check the time another buzz could be heard from your phone breaking the silence in the room.

Your heart raced as you read the message, quickly tucking yourself into a hiding spot, trying to calm down the swarm of butterflies in your stomach. The house had once again fallen into silence, except from the occasional rustle of the balloons that flew above you. The anticipation built with each passing second, and you couldn’t help but wonder how Pablo would react to your surprise.

The clock had just struck midnight, and you could hear the front door creak open. Signaling that Gavi had just arrived.

“Y/n?” Pablo voice echoed through the house, a hint of confusion lacing his words. He had gotten used to you always greeting him the moment he stepped into your shared home, so the quiet house must’ve really thrown him off.

His footsteps had grown louder as he walked closer to the bedroom, the soft thud of his sneakers against the floor sending your heart into overdrive with all the anticipation.

“Y/n?” he called again, this time sounding more concerned then before.

You held your breath, clutching the edge of your hiding spot as you watched him reach for the light switch once he entered. The room was suddenly flooded with light, and before he could even try and process what he had just seen, you leaped out from your hiding spot with a confetti popper.

“¡Feliz cumpleaños, amor!” (“Happy birthday, love!”) you excitedly screamed, popping the confetti popper.

For a split second, he just stood there, too stunned to speak. His eyes widen as he finally took in the sight before him-the room filled with red and blue balloons, the golden letters spelling out ‘Feliz Cumpleaños’ (‘Happy Birthday’), the gifts neatly arranged onto the bed. And then, a big smile slowly spread across his face, wide and genuine.

“¡Dios mío! No lo puedo creer.” (“My god! I can’t believe it.”) He laughed, running his hands through his hair as he looked around the room. “This is…. amazing! How did you….?”

His voice trailed off as he took a few more steps further into the room, still in awe of what you had done for him. You couldn’t help but feel proud of yourself for pulling this off, watching as your boyfriend took in every detail of the room.

“So…. did you like it?” you asked, your voice was soft but it was filled with excitement.

“Like it?” he repeated, turning to you with his big bright doe eyes. “I absolutely love it! I can’t believe you would do all this for me preciosa.” (precious)

You only shrugged at his words, trying to play it cool, but the cheeky grin on your face betrayed you. “I just wanted to make it special, you know?”

He finally approached you, his expression softening as he pulled you into his embrace. “You didn’t have to go through all this trouble,” he murmured against your hair, his voice sounded thick probably from all the emotions. “Though, I’m really glad that you did.”

When he finally pulled away, his gaze landed on the like of gifts spread onto the bed. “What’s all this?”

You followed his gaze, a playful smile tugging at your lips. “They’re your birthday presents.”

He looked at each one, touched by your gesture. “Twenty gifts?”

You nodded, wrapping your hands from behind his waist. “One for every year. And yes, they’re numbered, so you have to open them in order.”

His eyes let up with excitement as he rescued over for the gift number ‘1’. “You thought of everything, didn’t you?”

“Of course I did,” you replied, pulling your arms away, watching as he begun to unwrap the first present. “Everything had to be perfect for your surprise.”

Each gift he opened brought a new wave of joy, one after the other. There were the personal, heartfelt gifts, like a framed photo of the two of you from one of your favorite memories together from you both’s anniversary date-and then there weee the small, thoughtful gifts-like his favorite snacks and a new pair of training socks. With every unwrapped box, Gavi’s smile grew wider and wider, his appreciation evident in the way he would look at you between each gift.

As he reached for the final gift, he paused, looking at you with a mixture of affection yet disbelief. Carefully, he unwrapped the box to reveal a sleek personalized gold watch-engraved with his initials and a date that held a special meaning to not just him but you as well.

His breath caught in his throat as he turned the watch over in his hands, his fingers tracing the engraving in it. “This is…. wow, Y/n. I just don’t know what to say, I can’t explain it.”

You stepped closer, wrapping you arms around him and resting your chin on his chest. “You don’t have to say anything. I just wanted you to have something to always remember today by.”

He leaned his head down slightly, pressing a kiss to your temple. “This is the best birthday I’ve ever had,” he said softly. “Not only because of all the gifts, or the decorations-though those were amazing-but because you went out of your way to do lo of this just for me.”

You could feel the sincerity in his words, the way his voice slightly wavered as he spoke. “I just wanted to make you happy,” you whispered, your heart swelling with love for the boy that stood in front of you “You deserve it.”

He cupped your face into his hands as he looked into your eyes. “You make me happier than I ever thought would be possible,” he murmured, leaning in to kiss you gently. The kiss was sweet and lingering, filled with so many unspoken promises for the future and the warmth of a love than would last forever.

When he pulled away, he rested his forehead against yours, a smile playing on his kissed lips. “So, is this the real reason why Pedri and Fermín dragged me out with them tonight?”

You laughed, nodding as you remembered all the lengths they went to keep him occupied. “They had been in on it. I needed time to set this up.”

He chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. “I should’ve known. Those two had been acting suspicious after all.”

You both laughed together, the moment light yet full with happiness and love. As the laughter slowly died down, Pablo’s expression turned serious, his voice softening as he spoke.

“Thank you, Y/n. For everything. This was more than I could’ve ever imagined. I can’t believe how lucky I am to have you with me.”

“You don’t have to thank me Pablo,” you replied, your voice equally as soft as his had been. “I love you, Pablo Gavira. I just wanted to make you feel extra special on your special day.”

He kissed him again, his lips warm and soft but puffy against yours, from your shared kiss from earlier. When he pulled back, he whispered against your lips, “I love you too, Y/n L/n. More than you could ever imagine.”

With that, the both of you got into bed, the balloons still swaying gently above you both, the room had been bathed in the soft glow of the string lights you had put up. As you cuddled up together, wrapped in each other’s warm embrace, you knew that this night-this birthday would be one that neither of you would ever forget in the years to come. Because it wasn’t just about the decorations or the gifts; it was the love you two shared, the memories you were creating with one another, and that no matter what you’d always have each other to depend on.

ASPECTS:

- aspects in homestuck represent a fundamental part (or "aspect") of the universe. each aspect is a building block that, when used in combination with the other aspects, creates the universe as we (or the players) know it. the aspects primarily work in distinct pairs to create six fundamental tenants of the universe. three of these tenants exist on a more cosmic scale, and the remaining three exist on a personal scale. additionally, within each pair of aspects, there is one aspect that serves as an expanding, limitless concept with large amounts of potential; the other aspect in the pair serves to limit and guide the first with a much more concrete definition and power. - MIND/DOOM: this aspect pair deals with the tenant of CHOICE AND FATE. mind is the limitless aspect of choices; it is the existence of every possible branching reality, brought upon by every individual choice that might be made. doom limits mind by definining the alpha timeline as the one that is 'real;' all other branches are 'doomed.' this does not mean they are meaningless, especially since doomed timelines frequently interact with the alpha timeline; it simply means the events in these timelines are not the ones fated to happen by paradox space. mind represents a player's free will, stating that their actions have distinct consequences; 'we make our own luck.' doom represents the determinism inherent to paradox space, stating that actions exist for the benefit of the alpha timeline; 'we've been doomed from the start.' doom players have a tendency to see the world in black and white, all in absolutes with no nuance; things are the way they are because thats the way they are. they may also tend to stagnate because of this; they accept things as unchangeable and are less motivated to action at times. conversely, mind players tend to take matters into their own hands; they see every outcome as something they are personally responsible for and can be extremely motivated to take decisive action. on the other hand, a mind player might find this responsibility overwhelming, while a doom player might find the predetermination freeing; it depends on the player's disposition. literal representations of these aspects include brains and dice/coins/any tool for random chance (mind) or death/decay and fire (doom); literal minded players may develop powers relating to these representations as well, such as a sylph of mind becoming able to heal someone from brain damage or mental impairment/inhibitors

- SPACE/TIME: this aspect pair deals with the tenant of BEGINNINGS AND ENDINGS. space creates limitlessly, ever expanding with dominion over all life, objects, locations, etc in existence; it sets the stage for all creation. time defines the ways life, objects, etc play out and brings them all to their proper resting point; it cleans up after space and closes chapters on space's creations. these aspects in particular and the cyclical way they interact with one another in paradox space are the most relevant aspects to the game of sburb/sgrub, because the goal of the game is to create a new universe, which lies heavily in space's domain, and it executes this goal through the paradoxical creation of players who are capable of playing the game as required, which is only possible through close association with time. this is why sessions without a space player are doomed to fail (especially considering the frog must be bred on a space player's planet) and sessions without a time player have an extremely low chance of success (the time player takes the role of making sure all loops are closed as they should be, and is naturally predisposed to clean up after paradox space). time players have strong associations with endings, particularly death, and tend to see things from the perspective of the end result. they may veer towards nihilism or determinism through this perspective, or they may find a sense of peace through knowing how things will play out in advance. conversely, space players have strong associations with beginnings, particularly birth and growth. they have the perspective of the starting potential, and may be optimistic about all the possibilities open to them, or they may be anxious from the potential ways things might go wrong. literal representations of these aspects include frogs, plants, and matter (space) or gears, corpses, and clocks (time) and more literally minded players may develop powers related to these manifestations, such as thief of time physically turning back the hands of a clock to travel backwards in time

- the personal aspects deal much more primarily with the matters of players and individuals, and players with these aspects are rewarded for developing their personal life and conversely not as poweful if they focus too much on the fate of the game and paradox space itself. each pair of personal aspects is directly parallel to a pair of cosmic aspects, they just deal with matters on a different scale. the personal aspect pairs are RAGE/HOPE (parallel to void and light), HEART/LIFE (parallel to mind and doom), and BREATH/BLOOD (parallel to space and time).

- RAGE/HOPE: this aspect pair deals with the core tenant of INSTINCT and PHILOSOPHY. rage is the aspect dealing with base, instinctual emotions and reactions, tied closely with behaviors in one's pure self interest, without trust in others and community. hope is the aspect dealing with enlightened thought, faith, and heroism; it surpasses rage's instincts by presenting lofty ideals for people to believe in, and produces heroes and strength for light's narrative. rage inspires fear in the isolated; hope inspires strength in the community. these aspects represent two schools of thought in the philosophy behind peoples' behaviors; rage insisting we are ruled by our instincts and the needs of our bodies, and hope insisting we have evolved beyond that and are ruled by thought, which can overcome those instincts. both philosophies have a degree of truth to them and combine to explain general human (or inhuman, depending on the player) nature, despite their contradictions. hope players have a strong connection to the narrative of the hero's journey (or, depending on their alignment, the villain's journey), though they are much less likely to be cognizant of this than light players. they deal with grandeur and lofty ideals about life and purpose, and can be either inspired by or overwhelmed by this, often feeling pressure to 'be a good person.' conversely, rage players have a strong connection to base emotion; they are good at finding core emotions that drive us and the fundamental feelings behind instinctual reactions. they deal with the innate, rather than the cerebral; some may find peace in their understanding of these subconcious emotions, while others may feel disturbed by the idea that they are controlled by their feelings alone and overwhelmed by this connection. literal representations of these aspects include angels and light (hope) or clowns and darkness (rage), and more literal minded players may develop powers related to these physical manifestations, such as a witch of hope summoning and controlling angels to fight for them

- HEART/LIFE: this aspect pair deals with the core tenant of SOUL AND BODY. heart is the aspect dealing with the essence of who a person is, including constants across all iterations of the person as well as their limitless potential to change across different iterations. mind represents all possible choices that can be made to influence reality, while heart represents the possible results of those choices on a single person. life is the aspect dealing with the physical and limited form that a soul inhabits; it represents the defined, exact iteration of a person in this reality and the form they take. the body (including the specific circumstances that create this body) houses the soul and limits it to one instance of a person, but the body without a soul is worthless. life players can (depending on their class), however, heal and raise the dead by reminding the body of the soul it previously held and reforging that connection. life players have a tendency to feel strong connections to their own sense of self, and can show strong confidence in their own actions; alternatively, they can feel overwhelmed by the limitations of the body they are 'trapped' in and feel as though they cannot break out of bad habits. conversely, heart players can feel overwhelmed by the enormity of their understanding of themselves, and their personal iteration of themselves can feel dwarfed by the possibilities of what they could have been; alternatively, they could also feel empowered by these alternatives and their ability to change themselves to better suit their goals and ideals. physical representations of these aspects include literal hearts and energy (heart) or plants and other forms of life (life); more literal minded players may develop powers related to these representations, such as an heir of life finding their enemies strangled by plant life.

- BREATH/BLOOD: this aspect pair deals with the core tenant of INDEPENDENCE AND COMMUNITY. breath is the aspect dealing with freedom, a disconnect from worldly and personal ties to focus on one's self. it has associations with the limitless ideals of nirvana, of removing one's self from others to achieve personal enlightenment, without the distraction of connections. blood is the aspect dealing with connections and relationships, choosing to focus more on the team or community as a whole than one's self. it utilizes connections with others to achieve social fulfillment, locking away personal freedoms for the opportunity to interact with others and creating strong social power. blood players are very often the best among all other aspects at helping other players work together towards a common goal. they are good at leadership, as long as they have and understand a goal; however, they are more focused on the team itself than the actual goals and may become lost if teamwork is not necessarily the priority. conversely, breath players are not generally good at working with a team, preferring to forge their own path, but their commitment to freedom and individuality can in itself be very inspiring to those who watch them, and they may be considered leaders in their own right (though a breath player would never consider themselves a true leader). these two aspects are not any more or less important than other aspects; however, due to the cooperative nature of the game and the game's focus on individual fulfillment and growth for the players, the aspects are strongly related to the themes of the game from the players' point of view, and as such blood and breath players are often held in high regard by others (though there are exceptions to this. it depends how commited the players are to realizing their aspect, and how contrary their non breath/blood teammates feel). physical representations of these aspects include wind, air, and literal breath (breath) or vows, family, and literal blood (blood); more literal minded players may develop powers related to these manifestations, such as a thief of blood having the ability to drain all the blood from an enemy's body.

CLASSES:

- unlike aspects, classes in homestuck deal entirely with the personal and not at all with the cosmic scale. a player's class represents how they interact with their aspect (broadly, in a constructive or destructive way), as well as whether they are benefited more by using their aspect power for themselves (active) or for others (passive). the classes are divided into 7 active and passive pairs, and both classes within a pair interacts with the aspect in a very similar way, but with the purpose of meeting a different goal depending on which side of the active/passive scale the class falls upon. these pairs are divided into three sets of contructively aligned classes, three sets of destructively aligned classes, and one pair that has ultimate control, both constructive and destructive. this exception is, of course, the master classes (lord and muse). it is this pair we will discuss first.

- LORD (-)/MUSE (+): this class pair interacts with their aspects using ULTIMATE CONTROL. unlike all other classes, lords and muses can both create and destroy their aspect and representations of their aspect, and have very few limitations to their connection with the aspect. the limitations that do exist lie within the differences between the two classes. the lord is purely an active class, and can bend their aspect to their will, and their will alone. they will struggle greatly with using their aspect to benefit others, but they will likely not feel compelled to do so in the first place. conversely, the muse is a purely passive class, and can only inspire their aspect to act in ways that benefit others. they, too, are capable of great power, but this power often comes at great personal sacrifice and they must rely on others to defend and protect them. however, by aligning yourself with a muse, you will have acess to great power frorm their aspect; their aspect will help you with your goals, so long as the muse feels as though they can place their trust in you.

- the destructively aligned classes associate their aspect with destruction in some way, whether that is by directly destroying the aspect, or using the aspect to destroy other things. the three pairs of destructive classes are prince/bard, thief/rogue, and page/knight.

- PRINCE (-)/BARD (+): this class pair interacts with their aspects using PURE DESTRUCTION. they are both often surrounded by their aspect in some way, and perhaps overwhelmed by it, and can find great power in destroying it or using it for destruction. the prince, as an active class, directly destroys their aspect in a desire to feel control over it, and must balance this with the power their aspect grants them when it is in abundance around them. too little of the aspect, and they have nothing left to control and use; too much of the aspect, and the aspect uncontrollably overwhelms them. the bard, as a passive class, invites destruction through their aspect, inspiring rather than controlling directly. their presence in a group must also be balanced; given too much influence, the bard's power could destroy everything around them uncontrollably, but with too little influence, the bard is supressed and unhelpful.

- THIEF (-)/ROGUE (+): this class pair interacts with their aspects by REMOVING AND RELOCATING. they both may feel a lack of their aspect around them, and cannot create it themselves; they must take it from others instead. both are also especially adept at turning the intangible concepts behind the aspect into something quantifiable and real. the thief, as the active class, draws their aspect to work for themself vampirically, taking representations of it exclusively from others to benefit themself. they are able to precisely control their powers and understand them implicitly. the rogue, as the passive class, struggles more with their understanding of their powers, and cannot control them as well, especially if they feel as though they are attempting to take their aspect for their own benefit alone. however, if they have a robin hood-esque motivation to rebalance their aspect and help their friends, they are capable of similar things as thieves.

- PAGE (-)/KNIGHT (+): this class pair interacts with their aspects by WIELDING them as a WEAPON. they both draw great power from their aspect and can channel it to great destructive force. the page, as the active class, is capable of channeling and controlling huge amounts of their aspect as raw power. however, this power is only accessible if the page desires it for themself; they are often predisposed to let their desires sit by the wayside and can feel lots of pressure from others to achieve their true potential, and that pressure can make it possible for a page to awaken their true power. the knight, as the passive class, can also wield their aspect as a powerful weapon, but their skills are most effective in helping or protecting others. the aspect is not kind to the knight themself, and often great power for the knight comes at great personal sacrifice.

- the creatively aligned classes associate their aspects with creation in some way, whether that is by directly creating the aspect or using the aspect to create other things. the three pairs of creatively aligned classes are maid/seer, witch/sylph, and heir/mage.

- MAID (-)/SEER (+): this class pair interacts with their aspects by COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING. they both have an innate connection to and knowledge of their aspect and can channel that information towards constructive purposes. the maid, as an active class, works in service of the aspect completely in exchange for dominion over the aspect itself; they become 'made' of their aspect. they have a fundamental understanding of the aspect that cannot be compared to another class's relationship with the same aspect, and can use that knowledge to their own great benefit. the seer, as a passive class, uses their aspect as a conduit to better understand the actions and paths they and their party must take for ultimate victory. while many seers are predisposed to work alone, their skills are much better utilized to guide others in the use of their own skills, and they are rewarded for taking an advisory position instead.

- WITCH (-)/SYLPH (+): this aspect pair interacts with their aspects by MANIPULATION AND CREATIVITY. they, like thieves and rogues, can take hold of conceptual ideas of how an aspect works, and can bend the aspect to their own will. a witch, as the active class, has incredible control over the aspect and creatively uses it to mold an optimal reality. however, their manual control over their aspect can sometimes lead to catastrophic mistakes if they are not careful. the sylph, as a passive class, struggles to reach this same level of control, but if properly motivated by the desire to help those around them, they can achieve similar abilities as a witch, albiet in a more roundabout way. the sylph in particular is drawn towards healing, and a sylph of ANY aspect might find a creative way to justify that power.

- HEIR (-)/MAGE (+): this aspect pair interacts with their aspects by PURE CREATION. they both manifest their aspect around them in abundance, conciously or not. the heir, as the active class, will find that their aspect protects and serves them, initially without concious control on the heir's part. they are beloved by their aspect and can wield it freely. the mage, as the passive class, is also surrounded by their aspect; however, the aspect is more aligned to helping those around the mage than the mage themselves. the mage can find benefit from this by surrounding themselves with friends; surrounding themselves with enemies will lead more towards detriment.

Mileven Star Wars Parallels

So I started this back in August, but for some reason I decided Halloween would be the perfect day to post this, lol. Others have pointed out the gender roles reversal for Mileven before, and here's my contribution.❤️

ST has lots of references to other fiction obviously, and lots of general Star Wars references. But since I'm a big fan of how Mike and Eleven break gender norms as a couple, I'd like to look at the SW references to Anakin and Padme in this post.

(And to get that out of the way - Anakin/Padme ended up being in a toxic relationship, but Mileven is not toxic.)

Of course Eleven's stretched out hand when she uses her powers is a general reference to Force wielders in Star Wars - the boys didn't compare her to Yoda for nothing! But her dark, menacing look resembles Anakin most.

S2 had a theme of Eleven using her anger to enhance her powers, as advised by Kali. All of that is a direct parallel to Anakin being advised by Palpatine/Darth Sidious to do the same.

In general, Kali's life devoted to revenge is reminiscent of the Sith (and being named after a Hindu goddess of destruction/war), who use pain and anger as a base for their Force wielding, and seek to take revenge on the Jedi (an institution that takes children with powers and raises them to be soldiers/weapons...hmm).

El listens to Kali's advice and remembers her words during the season's finale in which she closes the gate to stop the mindflayer, once again drawing on her hurt and anger. This scene brings us to the most overtly thematic and visual Anakin reference:

Both El and Anakin are dressed in black, got some rad eyeliner, and do the intense stare. Their surroundings express the theme of anger and pain, being all about red, black, and fire. Their faces are illuminated by red light.

Both are sweating; El has blood streaming down her face, Anakin tears. Both are shouting, being in extreme emotional states.

I was super excited about this when I first watched s2, because the theme of anger is so rarely explored for female characters - plus she looks fucking badass.🤬🌋😎

Of course there's also the more universal theme of "the chosen one/saviour" that the two characters have in common (gender non-conventional for El), as well as childhood abuse and being trained to be a weapon, leading to both having complex trauma, and others frequently trying to manipulate and exploit them.

Btw, ST makes the point that love makes El strongest, which breaks the SW dualism of Sith and Jedi (the Jedi's base for Force wielding is lack of emotion).

Now seeing that El has so many Anakin parallels going on, we can naturally wonder whether Mike has some parallels to Padme.

While I haven't noticed a direct reference (please let me know if I missed one!), both characters are defined by their strength in empathy and sense for justice (Mike takes El in and champions her throughout s1, for example, while Padme refuses to let her people suffer throughout ep. I, and she speaks for the voiceless in the senate).

Also, here's a cute little "You're cold (a symbol for being alone and unloved), let me give you a blanket (love)." parallel:

They are also both strong leaders, who hate to sit around and do nothing, while others are in danger (or to be told what to do by others).

Again, s2 gives us a good example:

Mike is told by Steve that they have to stay put, but he insists to go out and help Eleven. Likewise, in ep. II, Padme doesn't give a shit that Mace Windu just told Anakin and her to stay put, she insists to go out and help Obi-Wan.

Both have much more of these moments, of course. All of ep. I shows us Padme throwing herself into danger to help her people on Naboo, ep. II is just her being pissed, because she needs to go undercover due to assassination attempts (don't get me started on The Clone Wars), and Mike is always the first (and sometimes the only one) to rush to El's aid, or that of a friend.

They are both passionate, emotional, and compassionate; they constantly drive others to act for others, and inspire them.

Padme means "lotus", which is a Buddhist symbol for compassion; while Mike is termed "the heart".🪷🩷

Both are also the no-supernatural-power partner in their romantic relationship, often putting them into the role of the one who gets left behind/has to wait, and the supporter role.

Again, this is a very non-conventional role gender-wise for Mike, which I love (but just like Padme and other female love interests, he gets a lot of hate for it).

Ep. 15 "The Cavalry Has Arrived" Review

To say that I am happy is an understatement. I am beyond satisfied with the finale of TBB. For me, it was perfect and I cried several times. This was about a family. Of course, there are small things I would've liked to see more of, but that's more nitpicking. I watched the finale twice today and I am happy. I guess if I had to say anything, it's that I wanted more. I love these characters and I could spend hours with them.

From a more constructive criticism side (just to get it out of the way): I definitely think the writers needed more time overall with this show. There are corners that had to be cut and you can see it. The pacing is rushed at times. While I'm still happy with the final result, you can tell it really needed more time for character moments. I don't necessarily blame the writers; I blame Disney for not giving them more time. Jen and Brad are very capable of both action and character depth, but it's clear they didn't have the time for both.

On another note, the music and animation were phenomenal. The rain animation looked so real to me, especially when dripping off of the characters. Everything was stunning. And the music, like my gosh. The Kiners popped off here. Crosshair's theme and Omega's theme are two absolutely beautiful pieces of music and I really enjoyed hearing them throughout the episode. And my gosh, tension during the final stand against Hemlock was perfect. The music was incredible and I rewatch that sequence because of it (and other things).

Spoiler time; you know the drill 😎 This will be long, fair warning.

Crosshair's conversation with Wrecker and Hunter was truly heartbreaking. You can hear the guilt in his voice, especially when he admits he feels like he deserves to 'Plan 99' himself. To hear Crosshair admit that hurt. His past mistakes weigh heavily on him. However, I loved that Hunter stepped up and told him no. Family sticks together no matter what. It's a far cry from S1, where Hunter and Cross both left each other. But now, nothing will split their little family up. Crosshair's theme playing over that whole sequence had me in shambles.

The whole fight sequences with the operatives was also really well done. I can't imagine what would've happened if Hemlock managed to condition the boys. Omega got Cross out at the right time; if he'd stay'd there a few weeks longer, then Hemlock would've definitely adjusted the conditioning machine in time to fully break him. Luckily, Crosshair avoided that fate. Still, to know that he suffered in that machine for 5 months is heartbreaking. The operatives are true killing machines, devoid of life.

I can't believe I live in a world where Crosshair got Jaime Lannister'd. AND IM A HARDCORE JAIME STAN. This wasn't on my 2024 bingo card! I will say though, I can see why some people personally don't agree with it as a writing decision. Cutting off his had doesn't magically "fix" anything; it honestly will just add to his trauma. But at the same time, I love whump and there is symbolism of Crosshair being truly free. He is now just Crosshair and that's enough.

Omega really learned from the best, didn't she? Seeing her help the other kids and free the Zillo was epic. I got so many Ezra vibes from her as she slipped in and out of the vents of Tantiss. The faith and trust she has in her brothers is truly heartwarming. And it makes the epilogue feel even sweeter. Omega knows they raised her well and she can take care of herself because of that. She's grown so much since that first time seeing her on Kamino. It feels like looking in a mirror sometimes, at least for me. I see a lot of my life reflected in her, just like I do with Crosshair. It hits home.

The final standoff with Hemlock was definitely my favorite part outside the ending. I loved the music, the animation, and seeing Hunter and Crosshair work together. There is such trust between the brothers and Omega. Despite Crosshair's worries, there is no moment that Hunter doubts Crosshair's abilities. Hunter knows Cross will make it. He assures Cross that Omega also trusts her brother's abilities. And the hug after Hemlock died was so beautiful. I love that Omega hugged Crosshair first; he needed that.

Hemlock's demise was perfect. I kept joking that I just wanted him to fall off of Tantiss because it would be so pathetic. And guess what? He did fall off of Tantiss (after getting shot before hand).

Echo of course was awesome! Loved how he commented that he knew Omega was the one to release the Zillo. I also loved how he did get to fulfill his wish of freeing the clones and even lead them into battle against the operatives. The last domino still stands and I couldn't be happier. (Also glad that Emerie lived. She deserved it after realizing how messed up everything was).

Nala Se and Rampart were also handled well. Rampart never changed and I'm glad he didn't. Some people are just not nice, even after getting served humble juice. Meanwhile, I will cut Nala Se some slack. I will never forget Fives. However, she did save Omega so there's that. And she took out Rampart.

Overall, I'm just really glad that everyone made it out in the end. I would've been fine with a sacrifice, but the Batch was constantly being forcibly split apart, I'm glad that they now get a break and can be family. (Tech lives on in all their hearts). They will be ok and they know that. TBB was my comfort show and seeing that final shot of the Batch reminded me that I will be ok. Stuff happens, but somehow, things will work themselves out.

And the epilogue! I wish we got old man Crosshair and Wrecker (maybe one day we will), but it makes sense why it was only Hunter and Omega. He's her primary father figure and their relationship has been one of the driving forces of the show. For so long, Hunter has been very protective Omega, almost going too far at times. However, he learns to let her go and trusts that she will be ok. He is at peace knowing he, Wrecker, and Crosshair (and Tech + Echo) raised her well. It reminded me so much of my own experiences with my parents and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect epilogue. It also hit hard seeing Omega as an adult; she was so tiny in the beginning.

Anyways, that was a long review. I am overall thrilled with the final and I'm glad everything wrapped up neatly. I'm sure we will see Wolffe, Cody, and Rex in another project; their story isn't over. But Clone Force 99's is. They struggled so much and are now finally able to rest. The epilogue confirms that Hunter, Wrecker, and Crosshair got to grow old and watch their kid grow up. For me, there's such a beauty to that. In a galaxy that is riddled by war and darkness, there is hope for a better future. The Bad Batch started as a group of "defective" clones, but in the end, they became something so much more: a family. And in my eyes, that is the perfect ending.

Arcane season 2 trailer

Oh wow I'm so excited by this trailer. Spiking adrenaline...I'm scurrying up walls like spider on meth 🤪

Some thoughts:

- it seems to me that Mel is alive (Yay!). Maybe hurt. Ambessa doesn't sound angry enough for death. Also fuck you Ambessa with your "wrath must be met with wrath". What about Piltover's wrath to Undercity over decades and centuries, huh? But you're a war mongering tryant (and textbook narcissist), you wouldn't recognise concepts of justice and fairness it they slapped you in the face. She's on the bottom of my Arcane's characters' likeability list for sure. I don't care that she has got impressive physique. I hate that they gave her place in the game (yes she's even below Marcus and Finn. At least they have decency to be dead).

- Cait being all decisive and competent 😎 But if she's leading attack on Undercity, what are those Noxian soldiers about? Does she work together with Ambessa? *shudder* I like Cait but I kinda want her to fail in all three objectives. Sorry pretty officer, but I'm on side of Zaun's revolution and independence from Piltover's boot. And you sending in enforcers doesn't seem in support of that.

- Vi looks terrible in enforcer uniform. Terrible. And she continues her trend from the very beginning of the series of contradicting her own words to Jinx. How long that "Nothing ever going to change that." held up, huh? A few days? A month? Normally I would give benefit of the doubt due to deceptive trailer's editing, but as I said, it's hardly the first time. When it comes to Jinx, one must take her every statement with a pound of salt. Especially positive ones... I hope I am wrong, tho. Let me be wrong, trailer is lying, and after a breather and time to think, Vi is better than in S1 act three in relating to Jinx.

- Ooh chembarons fighting directly? Yay? Singed under enforcers' gunpoint! I know he's terrible mad scientist but someone save him. Jinx? Sevika? Victor??

- I'm surprised how happy I am to see Sevika again! I always strongly disliked her attitude to Jinx (she was kinda Silco's crew Mylo) so I didn't mind when Jinx hurt her, but I really love to see her back to full strength and fighting for Zaun. Also I am excited for Warwick?!

- Ekko is there. that's it

- and last but definitely not least - JINX! Most important in fact! Every bit of/about Jinx is absolutely BRILLIANT. *rolles around in utter joy* I'm so happy to see her again! 🥰 They already managed to exceed my expectations for her in season 2 in this very trailer. THE JINX MURAL!!!! 😍 It's Arcane's rendition of Liberty Leading the People, painting about French revolution! *explodes into fireworks of happiness* Our girl is so legendary that not one but two great works of art are referenced through her🥰 She is revolutionary for Zaun! Or the very least literally symbol of revolution. People behind her have all blue coloured hair. Possibility of Inxs or just sign of people's alignment/allegiance to her?

Despite all the turmoil, planning and fighting my favourite girl still has time for her art installations. Of course she has! Standing there on the pillar with Silco's face saying sarcastic line. (edit: oops it's monkey actually)That's pure theatre. She should really try hand in writing a dramatic play. I think pitch black comedy would be best bet. I wonder if she'll found out that Vi already said her name right before, when she grassed on her to Council. She looks so fierce fighting. Go Jinx go!!!

LO EDIT/REDESIGN

Decided to hop on into the trend and redesign Persephone's titan form when "fighting" Cronus, there's nothing wrong with the original design it does kinda gives off that girl boss vibes y'know, but it just doesn't feel that different from the original Persephone, like it's just Persephone with her blood red eyes and a black dress with a crown and earrings like that's it, so I decided to add a few things to further emphasize the dreadful aspect of Persephone.

About the design

Let's start with the snakes: I gave her snakes because in some versions the furies were daughters of both Hades and Persephone, and one of the main characteristics of the furies was the snakes in their hair, so I gave her snakes to reference that in my Design.

The hair: Persephone had two symbols, a stack of wheat and a torch, specifically a four-headed torch (pretty badass if you ask me 😎), so I tried my best to make it fire-like.

The face: you've probably noticed that her face looks darker in the edit than in the original, well there's a good reason for that, I wanted to make Persephone a little terrifying so I gave her a mask (I'm gonna call it a mask for simplicity) as a little emphasis on the dreadful aspects of her character.

I gave her dark blue makeup bc there's a version where it described Persephone as "dark-eyed Persephone" so I wanted to reference that, and also bc why not? I also gave her a more serious and prepared expression to make the scene more serious bc in the original she looked like your little sibling after they got you in trouble.

Her outfit: I wanted Persephone to have an ancient greek inspired dress because I thought it'll look powerful if a character who is based on an ancient story/figure wore an outfit that is inspired by the ancient culture they're based on.

I made the dress blend in with her skin because 1) it's inspired by Persephone's dress in the later episodes 2) I wanted to give this unusual vibe and make her look like an actual powerful non-human being rather than someone who got an entire bucket of paint spilled all over them.

So yeah, that's my LO edit/redesign, what do you guys think? Unlike some people, I'm open to criticism and looking forward to improving my skills in the future

Today's SoTE adventures! Hoooo boy that was awesome!! Too bad I have to interrupt to cook food and stuff but

1) So, I continued going down the road through Mausoleum where I defeated Rakshasa yesterday! But first attempted to snipe the hyppo enemies with a greatbow.. Barely reduced their health because I had whole 8 arrows and 4 of them only served to attract them to snipeable distance 🤡 I'll get them later..... :/

2) I ended up going all the way down! And it was a combo string of me thinking one thing but it was another!! So my objective was to get to that mysterious missing spot on the map. I went all the way down on a small island and saw catacombs, assuming I went to the wrong place because it is caves or mines that can lead to another location entirely, not catacombs! Then I went there in that very dark catacomb and as soon as I saw Fulgurbloom and a big talisman I assumed it was yet another Death catacomb that'd be mirroring previous two but no! Light puzzles and no Death. THEN I assumed 'there is no way the boss is anything but Knight of Death' but NO!!!

IT WAS LIKE, A CLERIC OR SOMETHING (inquisitor actually) THAT WAS REALLY HARD TO BEAT AND KEPT SUMMONING MORE AND MORE OTHER CLERICS LIKE SLIM AND FAT AS GHOSTS AND THEY WERE LIKE HOLDING THAT ONE CANDLESTICK-LIKE SYMBOL AND PILING UP GFGFHGHGB I really wish I took screenshots during the fight but I was too busy getting my ass kicked IT WAS REALLY FUN THOUGH I WON LITERALLY THE LAST SECOND WHAT IN THE DEACONS OF THE DEEP WAS THAT SHIT LOOOOLLLLL

And as if that was all not enough, turned out that WAS an actual way to the new location!! I got that right 😎

3) I however apparently missed at least two secrets in that catacomb.. I saw the ladder that I didn't know how to access, and I didn't understand the deal with an item where that big shooting Imp was. All I got was this:

Guess I'll have to watch tutorial or ask my friends like the annoying completions jerk that I am x)

4) Soooo I ran into this message when I wanted to hop on the boulder:

Meanwhile, I was looking around and thinking that the fire cracks layout was looking a LOT like Frenzied Flame. Damn, I feel like that was what scared Torrent since he pretty much burns alive in FF ending and JUST SO I DON'T HAVE ANY DOUBTS LEFT GODDAMN RATS THAT DEAL FRENZY ATTACKED ME LET'S GOOOOOO (or not ffgghfgg)

5) So on my way further there, I defeated a pretty annoying invader, just barely, and.......

Gfhgyyggyuyb I already cried a bitter tear of being Seen @ Undestood when Miyazaki managed to squeeze his trademark loathing for those who commit atrocities under belief in their sainthood in a talisman Queelign dropped, but this too.. Like yeah, I can absolutely confirm that being hunted as "heretic" by your own is the most insanity-inducing thing. I have seen what it did with another person, I have experienced this too and honestly I can't be bitter about lolrandom ship choice with Radahn or whatever on Miyazaki's side as long as he sneaks addressing this kind of stuff in his works. He actually GETS it.. This very specific grievance with human species in general that I don't see acknowledged on this level anywhere else. I feel seen ;-;

6) Also the map too!

I am going to make a wild prediction that Midra and the boys were also unfairly slandered like heretics and so the despair festered to the point of him (?) being contacted by the Three Fingers the same way Marika was contacted by the Two Fingers after her own tragedy 🤔 Listen it is not like I've had everything spoiled, I am just trying to guess! Lol I bet that the Hornsent clerics/saints/inquisitors/whatever are now looking at this land being tormented by Frenzy and go like "well see how much Midra overreacted, it was a good call to bully him :т" like you know, in the classic fashion of witch hunters completely missing the fact that they've created their own enemy. Dipshits.

(Ok sorry for getting too emotional on this bit, those three of you who followed my blog for a long time probably know why I am so occupied with this topic -_- Granted, Miyazaki already did the topic with the Nomads so maybe now he will try an alternative route and have people in this place being actually guilty? I'll see!)

7) There were strangely places on the corner of the map where rain started and ended quick, without any reason xd

I wonder why it is like this? Probably a mapping bug but it feels for me as though something is protecting this land from completely burning this way! Based if intentional!

So yes, not too much progress but a lot of emotions! One of the biggest "holy shit I love this DLC" moments so far after that pretty hard battle!

An open letter to everyone who now hates Chloe after the events of ‘Derision’...

…You do realize the writers invented this entire newfound premise for Marinette’s previous erratic behavior around Adrien just to ‘get one over’ on Chloe fans and continue the character assassination they’ve subjected her to since S3, don’t you? 

Think of this as just another extension of Zoe’s ill-thought out  introduction and suddenly forgetting Chloe ever had any more agency than ‘doing things for the evulz’ and hopefully then you’ll come to understand my point.

Like I’ve said on many previous occasions, idk whether to be angry, sad, bemused or simply in awe that Thomas Astruc would work so strenuously to drag a character down that only a couple of seasons ago was being touted as a multi-layered anti-hero.

And anyone who says this blatant retconning was ‘planned from the beginning’ is obviously wrong. If this show was a person, I don’t even think they could even remember what they’d had for breakfast. I don’t need to cite any examples… anyone who’s watched it from the beginning can figure out what I mean.

This entire continuity-busting farce is down to one man and one man only rewriting the entire show because a character he despises was becoming more popular than he likes around S2… so what better way to demonize her forever than to make her personally responsible for traumatizing the main character Marinette for the rest of her life?

The fact this clears up a LOT of questionable previous scenes (like Marinette stalking Adrien wherever he goes, having a copy of his entire schedule and that weird moment with his waxwork) also apparently lets Astruc and his merry band of hack writers off the hook, while now giving a tragic undercurrent to them which it hasn’t earned because it’s as clear as day they were originally intended to be ‘humorous’.

What he’s done is genius, really. In one fell swoop he’s permanently stigmatized Chloe in the eyes of a lot of Miraculous fans, rebranded controversial moments with Marinette at her stalking worse as somehow ‘symbolic’ with past abuse and cynically done it all without a hint of regret.

This is an evilly cunning plan that even Hawkmoth might find a tad excessive. I’d take my hat off to him… if I didn’t like to think I was one of the ‘good guys’.

So, I’ll simply say in response “YOU SUCK”, pull a stupid face before running off into the distance sneering at him all the way.

I like to think that Ahsoka is a Jedi who lived to be like 100-200+ years old. Obviously I really love Ahsoka but all biases aside I think it would be very cool for Ahsoka to be the last Jedi left from the clone wars and got to live past the empire and the first order. Obviously we hear Ahsoka’s voice in rise of skywalker and this most likely means she is dead by the sequels but im still making my point.

Ahsoka from the beginning was one of the most hated Star Wars characters. She was some bratty teenage student to the beloved Anakin Skywalker. She fought in the clone wars, was supposed to die but was resurrected by the closest embodiment of the light side we have, was framed for a bombing, expelled from the Jedi order, came back and fought for Mandalore, survived order 66, survived the rise of the empire, and the rebellion, and currently continues the fight for peace. Ahsoka some bratty teenager that was expelled from the Jedi order had outlived almost everyone from the order. I just think it’s symbolic in a way for a character like Ahsoka to live long enough to tell multiple generations of the original order, of Anakin the chosen one, stories of everything she experienced.

Personally I think it would be cool butttt that might just be me 😎😭

The birth and resurrection of Buck

Have a meta to tide you over until the episode airs!!!

The imagery that the writers and the crew (and cast but they’re doing what they’re directed to do so I'm not including them here) have been utilising in relation to Buck and Christian symbolism is pretty interesting - and especially in relation to the resurrection of Christ. 

We’ve seen so many references to it now that its almost like the universe is screaming at us or something! This is not fully comprehensive as I am sure there is more and I've not got time to do the level of in depth analysis I'd like to (I'm trying to get this out before 6x10 airs!), but this is the major points in relation to Buck and the resurrection. Putting it below the cut because its a bit long 😎

Buck is a saviour baby

We all know Buck was born to save his brother and that has had a profound impact on who he is and how he views himself - he has made saving people his entire personality. In Christianity Jesus was born to save the human race from sin and spent his life saving people through his preaching and miracles etc. Even Bucks name ties him to being a saviour - Evan means 'Gods gift' or 'Gods messenger' playing into the idea that God gave the Buckleys a gift (which they then didn't appreciate) and he then used Buck to spread his message (which we are only now truly getting to see the extent of) which leads me on to;

Travelling Buck

The bible details Jesus travelling preaching and spreading the word of God. These travels are an important part of the story and actually stem back to his birth - Mary and Joseph have to escape from Bethlehem and spend time in Egypt before returning to Nazareth

We see Buck escaping his parents and heading out on his own travels - sending postcards back to Maddie. Bucks travels are an important part of his own story - he didn't use his travels to preach etc in the way jesus did but he did use them to

St Christopher and the tsunami

I have a slightly unorthodox view of the st Christopher and the tsunami connection - but hear me out. So most people refer to Buck as being the embodiment of st Christopher in the tsunami arc because he carried Chris and got him to safety - all totally valid and definitely a legitimate way to read it. I However think there is a second way to view it because yes Buck saved Chris etc etc carrying him like St Christopher carried Jesus, but if you think about it metaphorically, things can look a little different.

Think about it this way - Eddie and Shannon have a baby and name him Christopher - then Shannon gives Eddie the St Christopher necklace - to protect him and remind him he has a family to come home to. Now Eddie carries that necklace around with him like a talisman.

Fast forward to the Tsunami and Christopher is dropped off with buck by Eddie to get him out of his loft - Buck is metaphorically drowning in his depression etc over not being able to return to work etc. The show was blatant in its use of the tsunami as a metaphor for the tidal wave of grief and depression both Buck and Christopher (and Eddie to a certain extent) were experiencing for differing reasons (Buck identifying himself through his job and feeling there is nothing else for him and Christopher the grief of losing his mother) - theres a reason he is they are the only two directly caught up in the wave! Buck directly refers to Christopher saving him - up on the fire truck "we saved each other" and then Eddie tells Buck its time for Christopher to "do the same [save him] for you" and then we get Bucks voiceover about the life raft that gets you home - implying that it is Christopher (and Eddie though his words) carrying Buck home (to safety.

We get to see it in action again in Eddie begins - Eddie is buried in rising water - yet the thought of Christopher (and Buck) leads him to safety - to saving himself. The story of St Christopher talks about the water swelling and rising - much like the Tsunami of course, but also like the rising water Eddie battles through to get back to safety - to his family.

It is this reason that I would argue Christopher is the embodiment of st Christopher, and not Buck, although they are in many respects interchangeable.

While we're on the subject of St Christopher, it is worth mentioning that he is not only the patron saint of travellers, but also of things related to travel and travellers—against lightning and pestilence in particular, obviously we had the pestilence shown through Covid - and the separation of Christopher from Eddie and Buck as a form of protection and now the lightning is coming out to play. I think the fact its Eddie connected to Buck on the ladder is more significant than it just being about Buddie - it also connects into the st Christopher of it all - Eddies necklace forms that direct connection to Christopher, and Eddie is going to be connected to Buck via a rope (I love layers connections like this!) thus connecting him to Christopher as well!

Maddie

Maddie as a name means 'from Magdala' - the place Mary Magdalene is from. Mary Magdalene has had a bad rap over the years - there is very little evidence that she was a prostitute - it is likely that another Mary (the most common name for women of the time) was conflated with Mary Magdalene and thus she becomes known as a prostitute. Mary was considered Jesus's most faithful follower, and the one who understood him best - she is considered to have taken care of him and financially supported his ministry. We could attribute all of these same characteristics to Maddie herself - she is the one who has taken care of Buck, she has supported him - one could say that giving him the Jeep and some cash so he could travel is that same as providing financial support (Bucks ministry being the fact that he needs to travel to find himself and end up in LA, so giving him the jeep sets everything in motion) and Maddie is also the one who understands him best (Eddie is on his way to superseding her but shared childhood trauma edges in her favour right now!) Mary Magdalene is the one who witnesses the empty tomb and the resurrection of Jesus - ergo Maddie being the one at Bucks bedside when he wakes isn’t that much of a reach for us to make.

A couple of other snippets before we get to the resurrection itself;

Jesus was 33 when he died - Buck is 33 (approximately) in Canon at the time of the lightning strike 👀

Jesus was resurrected on the 3rd day - we’ve been getting all the 3’s - literally all of them - this season and I wouldn’t be surprised at all if Buck is in a coma for 3 days (and if I'm right about this i'll be flinging myself into the sun over it!)

Also we haven't talked about the Taylor of it all - Taylor is Judas! Let me explain, Judas became Jesus's closest apostle, but he is also separated from the other apostles, through his dislike of the way Jesus went about certain things - he's the only Apostle to question Jesus outright right and he betrayed Jesus - which lead to his crucifixion.

With Taylor she has always had this antagonistic side to her - she questions Buck (without understanding or reason), and she is technically the closest to him (by virtue of dating him not because she is actually the closest person to him) whilst also being separate from everyone else in the show. It is Taylor who betrays Buck and leads to the higher ups semi blacklisting Buck in the aftermath - similar to the way Judas's betrayal of Jesus allowed Pilate to arrest and ultimately kill him. In the same way that it was essentially predetermined that Judas would betray Jesus, it was predetermined on the show that Taylor would ultimately betray Buck (and the 118). Its important to remember that Buck feeling like he's been black listed etc as a result of Taylors actions is a key part of his spiral in season 6 - it is the catalyst for so much of what has happened thus far and part of why he was so determined to prove himself captain material and for his decision to try the age of absolutely and say yes to everything!

As an aside to this Judas is often depicted in Christian imagery with red hair - just like a certain reporter we all know and hate!!

The Resurrection

So we've all been screaming over the imagery of Buck hanging in the air and subsequently being lowered to the ground and into the arms of Bobby and how it fits into Christian imagery of Jesus being removed from the cross Like this one - 'Deposition' by Caravaggio

Deposition is one of the more famous paintings depicting this moment, but Christs removal from the cross is often depicted with the presence of ladders and the pose they have Buck in is also a commonly used one in the depiction of Christ's removal from the cross

such as this one by Rembrant;

or this one by Rubens

in both instances Christ is removed from the cross and into the arms of Joseph of Arimethea and we see the women of Christ (I hate that term but there we go!) both Mary Magdalene and his mother Mary in these paintings. Joseph was granted permission to bury Jesus - a feat normally undertaken by the father of the deceased. The fact that Joseph of Galilee wasn't present (when Mary was) suggests that he was already deceased.

you cannot convince me that this;

wasn't inspired by the above art! there are a couple of really interesting things about the fact we have Bobby very obviously in the position of Joesph of Arimethea. Joesph of Arimethea is taking on the role of father figure to Christ and we know Bobby has taken on the role of father figure to Buck. I'm also willing to put money on the person we can't see being Hen - thus representing the women. This will also likely be accompanied by Maddie being at Bucks bedside (and we might possibly see Margaret there as well in some capacity even if I start growling!!)

The thing with the crucifixion, deposition and subsequent resurrection is that they are the key turning point in the bible - they are the moment when the work Jesus has undertaken up to this point gains its importance and status - without his sacrifice at that moment, it is very possible Christianity (and Judaism and islam as well for that matter) may not exist!

If we break it down in 911 terms and look at where Buck is at right now and where he is headed it all ties in very interestingly with Jesus.

The pipeline is essentially the same

Jesus; betrayed - crucified - removed from the cross - resurrected.

Buck; Betrayed - crucified - removed from the ladder truck - resurrected (and in a coma before waking up)

We know Buck isn't going to actually die - that wouldn't serve the same purpose for the show that Christs death did in the bible. The outcome is the same though. Buck is going to die - temporarily and its going to land him in a coma, but hes going to die. and that is so important. Buck is at apoint where he needs to shed the 'Evan of it all. the saviour label is so firmly attached to Evan and at this point in time Buck cannot escape its clutches - he even leant into it with the sperm donation. Now though hes discovering leaning into hasn't actually helped or made him feel better.

Buck is still stuck with this saviour label attached to him - only the risk is that now its becoming attached to Buck as well - not just to Evan (Connor knows Buck from before - when he was still Evan remember). Bucks choice to become a sperm donor means the lines are becoming increasingly blurred between Evan and Buck. In order for Buck to learn and grow - for him to be able to move on and essentially become who he wants to be - who Buck is, he needs to not be Evan anymore, so that means some form of rebirth.

This is where the coma storyline is such a great narrative device as a representation of the resurrection - in his coma Buck will get to see who Evan would've been - without the Buck of it all. He'll discover that it's not all its cracked up to be in his head - that thats not who he is, who he wants to be or who he'll ever be and being that won't make him happy. It won't be straightforward, nor will he get there immediately (healing isn't linear but Buck is on that road finally), but he will be carrying that knowledge with him and that will help him figure out that Buck is loved and wanted in a way Evan never has been (with the exception of by Maddie), that he isn't spare parts in the way Evan is and he will be able to be resurrected as Buck.

We need to remember that Christ was resurrected 3 days after his death and then appeared to certain people (in particular the apostles but also to others) during the next 40 days. This is why I'm expecting Buck to be in a coma for 3 days.

This is in no way as coherent as I'd like it to be - I think I'll have to revisit when I'm not feeling quite so insane about the episode tonight!!

I don't think I've written this much on religion since I was in RE classes at school!! I find the use of religious imagery in modern media really interesting and 911 is really going all in with it! Anyway I hope you found it interesting and I'm sure I've left out a lot of stuff, but the important points are all there I think!
