Okay, so. Backstory time. Richie Foley is an original character for the show... ish.
He actually takes inspiration from a supporting character of Static, Rick Stone.
And he is gay in the comics, explicitly so. Like, for the times the comic was made? Very fucking explicit, even for the more edgy comics that weren't of the Big Two.
So, Rick is kind of Virgil's best friend? I dunno, like I said... most things of Richie are taken from Frieda Goren. She is Virgil's confidant, best friend, partner, support and everything. This role was obviously given to Richie which...
Y'know, was made from the face of a gay character and basically taking the role of Virgil's love interest in the narrative of Static Shock so... take that as you will with whatever the show was doing with Virgil and Richie.
this is honestly a little incredible. i was REALLY not expecting any intentionally queer characters until the 2010s at the earliest, so getting a show whos main dynamic is arguably an intended gay relationship is surprising but i will take it
#og post#ask#theunstablejester#batposting#i was still enjoying the show before but knowing this makes it cooler lol#i can see why some people specifically mentioned this show when telling me to watch the entire dcau

ripper street for the tv asks!
Fantastic! Thank you :)
Favourite character: In this house, we love and protect Detective Constable Albert Flight
Funniest character: It's a tie between Fred Best and Homer Jackson... nah, it's totally Fred
Best-looking character: Well, I won't say Flight again (although he's a cutie). So, let's go with the lovely Rose
3 favourite ships: Oh my, there are a lot... Rose/Bennet (they earned their happy ending); Reid/Jane Cobden (we could have had it aaaaaaaaalllll); but I also like Reid/Deborah Goren, and Reid/Jackson (someone just please love that tragic DI); and Raine/Susan (there is some really nice fic out there)
Least favourite character: See, this is hard, because the caliber of antagonists on this show is just *chef's kiss ... so, I'll say Jedediah Shine (because I could write many essays on his twisted pseudo-father-figure-emotional-blackmail dynamic with Flight)... but damn, if he isn't a great character
Least favourite ship: Shine/Flight (because, ugh, no thank you please); Reid/Mimi (I'm sorry, y'all... I did not like Mimi as a character); Mathilda/Samuel (because they were kind of boring)
Reason why I watch it: THE WRITING... especially the dialogue. See Silas Duggan's "Men of Old Stone" speech in s2
Why I started watching it: My guess is because after Being Human UK, I wanted to see DaMo (Damien Molony) in as many things as possible. And then I fell into the Void.
Let's Play! Send me a TV show ask game...
#ripper street#tv asks#albert flight#damien molony#great writing#fangirling#why don't we get drunk and queue?

Michael J. Fox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Henry Winkler Big Additions To FAN EXPO Philadelphia, June 2-4
FAN EXPO Philadelphia today announced several huge additions to its celebrity lineup across numerous fandoms, including icon Michael J Fox, his Back to the Future costar Tom Wilson, Vincent D’Onofrio (“Daredevil,” “Law & Order: Criminal Intent”), Henry Winkler (“Happy Days,” “Barry”), Peter Weller (Robocop, Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension), Katee Sackhoff (“The Mandalorian,” “Battlestar Galactica), Bonnie Wright (Harry Potter) and Emily Bett Rickards (“Arrow,” “The Flash”). They are part of a growing, standout roster appearing June 2-4 at the Pennsylvania Convention Center.
Advanced Tickets for FAN EXPO Philadelphia are on sale through May 18 at www.fanexpophiladelphia.com, with discounts on individual day, 3-day and Ultimate Fan Packages available for adults, youths and families. VIP packages are also available now, with dozens of special benefits including priority entry, limited edition collectibles, exclusive items and much more.
The announcement of the eight new guests follows last month’s initial wave of Joseph Quinn (“Stranger Things”), Christina Ricci (“The Addams Family,” “Wednesday”), Sam Raimi (The Evil Dead, Spider-Man), Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings, Rudy) and Christopher Lloyd (Back to the Future, “Taxi”), already committed to the event. Additional celebrities, voice actors, creators, cosplayers exhibitors and programming for this major comics, sci-fi, horror, literary, anime and gaming convention will be announced closer to the event.
From the Back to the Future franchise to TV hits like “Family Ties” and “Spin City,” Michael J. Fox has thrilled and moved millions with his performances as well as his work on behalf of Parkinson’s disease research. He won his first significant role as the lovable conservative Alex P. Keaton on NBC’s enormously popular “Family Ties” (1982-89). The five-time Emmy winner (three for “Family Ties,” one for “Spin City” and one for a guest role on “Rescue Me”) recently received an honorary Oscar for his commitment to Parkinson’s research.
Tom Wilson is a character actor, writer and comedian with more than 100 film and TV credits. Wilson burst into the BTTF movies as the now iconic bully “Biff,” his grandson “Griff,” and even his own great grandfather, gunslinger Buford “Mad Dog” Tannen, for which he won the Saturn Award for best supporting actor. He’s also known for iconic roles in “Freaks and Geeks,” "Wing Commander,” April Fool’s Day, “Zach Stone is Gonna Be Famous” and “SpongeBob SquarePants.”
In addition to starring as “Wilson Fisk” opposite Charlie Cox in the Netflix series “Daredevil,” Vincent D’Onofrio has a resume of more than 100 roles, most popularly as the lead detective “Bobby Goren” in the long-running NBC drama “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” His notable film credits include Full Metal Jacket, Dying Young, Men in Black, Mystic Pizza, Jurassic World and The Break Up.
Henry Winkler first captured the nation’s attention as the leather-jacket-wearing, motorcycle-riding “Arthur Fonzarelli,” a.k.a. the “Fonz” in the iconic series “Happy Days.” He has gone on to produce TV shows like “MacGyver,” direct several movies, act in plays and feature films, and write the popular Hank Zipzer children’s book series, with co-author Lin Oliver, about the adventures and misadventures of the ever resourceful, but struggling student named Hank.
Accomplished actor, director, voice over artist and occasional professor Peter Weller’s amazing career has taken him from the mean streets of old Detroit to the final frontier of space. He has appeared in more than 50 films and television series, notably in the title role in 1987’s RoboCop and its sequel RoboCop 2 and as the title character in the quirky 1984 sci-fi cult film The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension. Katee Sackhoff is a favorite at FAN EXPO events for her portrayal of “Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace” on “Battlestar Galactica” as well as “Bo-Katan Kryze” on “The Mandalorian” and “Niko Breckenridge” on “Another Life” among more than 60 film and TV credits. Her extensive voice acting work includes “Robot Chicken” and “Star Wars: Rebels.”
Bonnie Wright first appeared as “Ginny Weasley” in a small part in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in 2001 and has gone on to play the character in a much larger role in the franchise for the next decade. She also portrayed young “Agatha Christie” in Agatha Christie: A Life in Pictures and co-starred alongside David Warner and Tom Sizemore as “Phoebe” in the drama Before I Sleep.
Best known as “Felicity Smoak” in the long-running CW series “Arrow,” “The Flash” and “DC’s Legends of Tomorrow” and animated series “Vixen,” Emily Bett Rickards also gained notice for roles in the family drama Dakota’s Summer and hit romance film Brooklyn. She starred as the lead character “Alice” in last year’s comedy feature We Need to Talk.

Note: Before starting the theory, I want to point out that it is a theory for a girl from the Arab fan, not mine, and all I did was translate it from Arabic to English because I loved her so much.
This is her Instagram account More of her theories :
https://instagram.com/ti_ta_n_ia?utm_medium=copy_link
And the mother, to move on to the theory that relates to the last chapter:
First, Shikama asked Saito Ho about not having the mother's keys, but did you notice? Shika saw Kharon already stamping him with three after he took two of Saito and saw Ferid stabbing Sami one, this means that he already knows that Saito does not have any key and the reason for Saito's silence is not because he failed but because he can't tell where the keys are.
Then he said, “We underestimated our creations.” Here, Shikama was referring to Mahiru and Shinoa for him, and Guren and Ferid to Saito. They all understood the reason for these characters being in the arena.
Then he said I spent tens of thousands of years fine-tuning my plan, but this person outdid me and corrupted it... He said he was a person who was willing to destroy the world for personal gain... and no matter what we thought, it was not logical that this person wanted it. Then who is mine who destroyed the world? Eight years ago for a personal reason? Of course ichinose Guren...
And if we go back to the story, there is a law in the Ancestral Council that forbids any human experiments or organizations that do this to be destroyed by vampires, and anyone who approaches the experiences of the Seraph of the End will be killed. What if they knew then the name of the person who was the cause of the destruction of the world and the death of humans? ...
Of course, we know that Shika is to blame for everything that happened in the world, and even what Guren did was the cause of it, but do the ancestors know? No of course..so in their view everything is Guren's fault...simply Shikama wants to make the ancestors see Guren as a sinner who should be executed according to their law. He is the culprit in everything and if they kill him he can repeat it while Shikama appears as an innocent person whose whole goal is to He saves the world and that's why he was hidden from view. Shika simply wants to blame Guren for all his mistakes while winning the vampires on his side once again to come back with a new plan to confront the angels.
Of course, with his plan, he will kill two birds with one stone... As you know, Guren is not the one who was supposed to destroy the world, but who made him the reason? Mahiru Hiragi... she made Guren bear the guilt of the resurrection because she knows that he will take responsibility and will seek to correct everything. But now the council will know that Goren is the culprit, and they will seek to execute him, and if this happens, who will most blame himself? Of course, Mahiru is the one who pushed him to resurrection and thus Chika took revenge on Mahiru, who defied him and stood in his face. She tried to stand up to him.
As for the reason for Saito's silence... it is because it is impossible for him to say that the keys belong to the person who destroyed the world or that he was collaborating with him because he will be accused with Guren even if he was a second ancestor, it would not be in his interest to become an enemy of vampires and shika will appear innocent. Saito already realized this, so he preferred to remain silent...
He literally played on the ropes and sat making everything walk with his fingers even though he lost... This is one of the reasons why the class was called "Moving Pieces" because Shika is still able to move everyone the way he wants to prevent the collapse of his plan...
At first I said that Ferid's presence would protect him from the plot..but all my hope was destroyed when I remembered Shi...the ancestors had a hostage in their hand and it was Shinya Hiragi...they were able to use Shinya to bring Guren and force him to surrender easily. ..
It reached the worst point....if you notice everything Guren Yu went through as well, starting with losing his family to turning the closest person to him into a demon and many other things, but there is one thing that Guren went through that Yu did not go through... which is that he sees his father He is executed in front of his eyes despite his innocence...and we all know who is considered a father to Leo. Therefore, there is a high probability that Shika's plan will succeed and Guren's death in the coming chapters...
Now most of you will say why would he do a check all just to kill Guren who is just a mortal whose death is neither advanced nor delayed? But you are simply wrong about the value of Guren in the story. Now, if Guren dies, Mahiru will collapse because of blaming herself, and Feridyu's plan will falter, and with his collapse and Mahiru's collapse, Shinoa Kimizuki, Yuichi and Mitsuba will not comment. Without Guren, they will not do anything, Shinya and Guren's team after and even Kureto and the demonic army was the biggest support for them is Guren...simply Guren is considered the beating heart of the Seraph of the end, and that's why Mahiru said about them the bright light of humanity, he is the only one to me. Never, and with his death, he will collapse. I hope and Shika is the biggest beneficiary of this hope...People think Guren is a normal character and his death does not affect and it is impossible for a check to be devoted to him, but the truth is that the most dangerous enemy of Shika is Guren.
What Shika can gain from the plan:
Wins the vampire in his class again
- Shut up Saito
- Killing Guren Lee is the biggest obstacle in his path
- He takes revenge on Mahiru and destroys the bonding between humans
- He gets rid of everything that gets in his way
- He regains control to start his war again with a larger force
- Recovering the keys to sin, which poses the greatest danger to him
This is the theory and special thanks to @ti_ta_n_ia on this analysis.
And thanks also to @thesoundofanicefall For hearing the theory and her beautiful comment, she is my refuge and my role model in love with Guren

Introduction to my overlord NPC!
Goren The Crystalline Angel
Race: Angel Lv: 80 Alignment: 50
Racial Levels: [Angel 15] [Cherubim 10]
Job Levels: [Cleric 15] [Miner 10] [Assassin 10] [Ninja 10] [Shapeshifter 10]
Personality: Quiet, observant, shy, and unintentionally rude to most who interact with him. He is mainly a personal guard but also mines materials that are required for experiments. If he got close to someone, he’d be more relaxed and talkative. His favorite activity is telling and hearing bad puns. He is very knowledgeable about minerals and gems and likes being in caves. He’s materialistic when it comes to stones, but will give up ones useful for Kelpie’s experiments. He has a hoard of stones and has embedded the prettiest ones into his metallic skin. He organizes his hoard by rarity. In the new world he acts as a merchant selling materials he's foraged and items Kelpie has made to buy new materials for experiments. He likes to "rescue" gems and stones from undeserving owners. In very rare cases, he will bestow someone who seems worthy with one of his less rare stones. He will retrieve the stone with great anger if he discovers them mistreating it. If they are truly worthy he will bless the stone.
Equipment: Has natural armor that is enchanted with a defensive sigil. Ten of the stones on his body are enchanted with vision giving him extra eyes. Each eye will blink as a normal eye would. If he desires with his shapeshifting he can make all the stones appear to blink and change their locations on his body. Any stone can be taken off but in some situations he will take off one of his eye stones for spying purposes.

This story originally appeared 10 years ago. It is being republished now to mark the events that occurred 90 years ago this week in the city of Hebron.
Jews this week will be marking the 80th anniversary of the Hebron massacre that began on August 23, 1929...
The slaughter that took place in 1929 was part of a series of attacks on Jews. On August 17 in Jerusalem, in what was later seen as a portent, a Jewish boy had been stabbed to death. The killings in Hebron were particularly barbaric, with Arabs wielding hatchets against yeshiva students and women and babies. Before the affrays—to use the word the New York Sun used in its editorial of the time—had passed, scores had been slaughtered.
The story is retold in gruesome detail in a just-published book, Hebron Jews, by a professor of history at Wellesley, Jerold Auerbach. I have known Auerbach for years, as our mothers were cousins, and have admired his work on both labor and Jewish subjects. He uses the skills of a long-tenured professor to remind us not only of the importance of the Hebron story, from Abraham’s original contract on a burial site for Sarah to the return of the Hebron Jews of our generation, but also of its ironies.
Back in 1929 the Jews who called themselves “settlers” were the relatively secular Zionists who lived on the Mediterranean coast and in northern Eretz Israel. The Jews of Hebron had dwelled there intermittently for thousands of years and continuously since the expulsion from Spain in 1492. In the 1920s there was an influx of young scholars from a Lithuanian yeshiva, Knessett Israel. Their arrival coincided with rising tensions throughout Palestine. By August, trouble was sensed by the one British police officer in the town, Raymond Cafferata. He was told by both Arabs and Jews in Hebron that “any trouble” was “out of the question.”
Yet that same week a Jewish teacher named Haim Bagayo was warned, “This time we are going to butcher you all.” Earlier that day, there had been clashes in Jerusalem, in which three Arabs and three Jews died. The Jews of Hebron, Auerbach writes, “refused to believe that their Arab neighbors, with whom they had lived in relatively peaceful coexistence for four centuries, meant them harm.” Cafferata noted that in Hebron “everything appeared normal.” But before the day was out, Arabs began to attack Jews with clubs, and Jewish shops were quickly shuttered.
The first to die was a student, Shmuel Rosenhaltz, who was set upon as he studied, alone, in the main yeshiva. The Jews were warned to stay inside their homes. Early the next morning, Arabs, screaming “Allah akbar” and “Itbach al Yahud,” or “kill the Jews,” began surging through the streets. Two Jewish youths were stoned to death outside the house of the Heichel family. Some 70 Jews sought refuge inside a relatively large house, owned by Eliezer Dan Slonim. Almost the whole family of Slonim—his wife, Hannah, and their son, his father-in-law, who was the chief rabbi of Zichron Yaakov, and his wife—were among 22 persons who were clubbed or stabbed to death and, in some cases, disemboweled. The Slonim’s one-year son survived, having been hidden under dying Jews.
Rabbi Hanoch Hasson was murdered, along with his family. A pharmacist, Ben-Zion Gershon, who’d served both Arabs and Jews, “had his eyes gouged out before he was stabbed to death,” Auerbach relates. His wife’s hands were cut off before she and their daughter were killed. Mr. Goldshmidt was tortured, his head held over a kerosene flame, before he, his wife, and one of their daughters were killed. Twenty-three corpses were discovered in the Anglo Palestine Bank, where women were raped on a floor covered with thick pools of congealing blood. Rabbis Meir Kastel and Tzvi Dabkin and five of their students were tortured and castrated before being murdered. The killings went on for two hours, and the final death toll reached 67.
...One American writer, Maurice Samuel, who’d been visiting Eretz Israel at the time, wrote a book about the event titled, What Happened in Palestine? Like a number of other Zionists, he focused blame on the Mandatory authorities, while insisting relations between Jews and Arabs were broadly amicable. The sheik who incited the slaughter served a month in prison. Any moral standing of the Mandate, if it had ever existed, drained away.
In the years after the establishment of the Jewish state, when Jordan ruled Hebron, the vestiges of Jewish presence were obliterated. The ruins of the Avraham Avinu synagogue were razed and its site given over to an animal pen. Houses of Jewish learning were converted to Arab schools. The ancient Jewish cemetery was torn up. Jews did not return until 1967, when the chief rabbi of the Israeli Army, Shlomo Goren, commandeered a jeep and, carrying a Torah scroll, Israeli flag, and shofar, raced to Machpelah, becoming the first Jew to enter the burial place of the patriarchs and matriarchs in 700 years...

Electrical Transformation: Due to Static's power to generate electromagnetic energy, He is able to transform his entire body into pure electrical energy.
Abilities
Science: Static is a highly gifted student with a particular interest in math and the sciences. Static also possesses an almost fanboyish knowledge of comic books, role playing games, and science fiction.
Tactical Analysis: Static is able to apply his scientific knowledge in combat and real life situations and does so almost intuitively. This allows him a certain advantage over less clever opponents.
Multilingualism: Virgil has learned to speak German for unknown reasons and is fluent enough to carry on a simple conversation in the language.
Weaknesses
Vulnerability to Bang Babies: For unknown reasons, Static can be affected by electricity-wielding metahumans whose powers are derived from Quantum Juice.
Equipment
Static Saucer: Static uses it to fly through the air.
Static Traps: Normally, Static does not use any real weapons and mainly relies on his electromagnetic powers in battle. However, to defeat particularly formidable opponents, he will employ his "static traps," a well-planned use of his powers and everyday materials. These static traps were limited only by Static's creativity and the preparation time available.
Dakota City
The poorest and most crime-ridden neighborhood of Dakota City is Paris Island. Gangs were commonplace, and turf wars a regular occurrence. So much so that eventually all the local gangs agreed to settle things once and for all, at an intersection of the three main gangs' territories, a spot called "Ground Zero".
This "Big Bang" was no secret, and when more than five hundred gang members converged that night, armed and ready, everyone in the area, police included, knew what was going down. Even Dakota's mayor Thomasina Jefferson, knew about it. Mayor Jefferson decided to take advantage of the unique situation by marking herself as a "tough on crime" candidate for the next election. Once the Big Bang began, she ordered the police to release a special tear gas containing a harmless radioactive marker, which would allow them to track any gang members who got away for days afterwards. Then, the police would move in on the gangs in force and apprehend as many of them as they could. By morning, the vast majority would be incarcerated, and the stragglers could be chased down and picked up over the next few days.
Things went hideously wrong. The gas killed over ninety percent of the people exposed to it, with the survivors either being hideously mutated into monstrous forms or gaining superhuman powers. Those survivors became known as "Bang Babies"; to the world at large the deaths were attributed to gang violence. Fifteen-year old school kid Virgil Hawkins was bullied, like most kids are. But after taking one beating too many he was given a gun by his friend Larry Wade, who encouraged him to seek revenge. Virgil showed up, and hid behind some crates and old oil drums, but while he was waiting he decided this was not for him. Throwing the gun into the water, he wandered off, deep in thought and heedless to where he was walking. Thus it was that Virgil, although not a gang member, ended up present at Paris Island on the night of the Big Bang. Exposed to the gas he gained a variety of electromagnetic powers, and, inspired by the superhero comics he read, decided to become a superhero, Static.
It is not all good being a superhero though. At school the only person who knows Virgil's secret is his best friend, Frieda Goren; he cannot use his powers to deal with bullies for fear of giving away his secret identity. Because his sense of duty means he will drop everything to deal with threats to the city, he finds it impossible to hold down even the most menial job. He has got enemies aplenty - Hotstreak, Commando X, Holocaust, and more. His close friend Rick Stone came out as gay, forcing Virgil not only to deal with his own homophobia, but also to protect Rick when a gay rights rally was attacked by a homophobic super villain.
And then there is Dusk. Dusk was another teen vigilante, with a strong code of justice, whom Static encountered. He and the young lady hit it off immediately, and combined patrolling and dating. Then the two of them assisted the police on a drug bust, only for Static to discover one of the dealers was Frieda's boyfriend Larry. Shocked, Static initially let Larry go, putting a slight rift between him and Dusk. A day later, the two heroes caught up with Larry just as some other dealers decided it was time to silence him. Dusk was shot trying to protect Larry, who died anyway, and if Static had not carried her to safety, Dusk might have died as well. Afterwards, Static told Frieda he had decided to abandon his costumed identity. He was convinced not to by Dusk, who was leaving Dakota because she had become wanted for murder.
DC Universe
At some point, Static was abducted by the Dark Side Club, drugged by the Anti-Life Equation and forced to compete against other heroes in an arena for entertainment. He proved too strong to control, and the proprietors mostly kept him locked up in the basement, although he was allowed out to compete with the other reigning champion, Ravager. After being freed from the Club by Ravager, he applied for and joined the Teen Titans, becoming a full-time member.
Return To Dakota
Virgil finally decides to see his family again after learning that a deadly virus has been infecting citizens of Dakota, including Sharon. After returning home, Virgil reunites with his family as well as Frieda, and learns that his girlfriend Madison has left him during his absence. He discovers that whoever created the virus is also selling limited supplies of the vaccine, and attacks the lab where it is being made. Upon breaking into the facility, Static is surprised and knocked out by Holocaust.
After refusing to help Holocaust in his pursuits, Static is imprisoned in a specialized containment unit alongside Aquagirl, Wonder Girl, and Bombshell. Holocaust informs the heroes that he plans to kill them and weaponize their abilities in order to sell them, but is ambushed by the rest of the Titans before this can happen. Holocaust easily defeats them, only to be confronted by Cyborg, who has recruited former Titans Kid Flash and Superboy.
Fun Facts
Static has had a few nicknames and street names, they include "Kilowatt Kid", "Sparky", "V-man", "Virg", and "Hero".
Early in his superhero career, Static flew using everyday metal objects like garbage can lids. He now flies on a hover disc of his own design and construction.
