My main hobby is just procrastinating in any way I can. The plan was to make a cup of coffee and then start working. What actually happened is that I watched a 3 part video series (by james hoffmann ofc) on Aeropress coffee and made a few cups with different variables. Still not sure if I found The Recipe for me, but it’s getting better (tho I don’t love the coffee beans I have)

ive been thinking about hard of hearing steve, who started losing his hearing after starcourt, the scoops troops are the first to find out because of how attached they are, robin erica and dustin all insist on steve learning to sign but he's insecure about learning a new language so they slowly learn and start teaching him

after vecna, eddie gets adopted to their little group and starts picking up on the signs and learning on his own, still struggles to hold a conversation, esp with the likes of robin or dustin, but he atleast knows simple words and phrases enough to communicate, eddie also gets into the habit of signing ILY to steve before he leaves, except steve rarely studies asl on his own most of what he remembers is from robin/erica/dustin, who never thought to teach him that specific sign, so steve just thinks eddie is just being a metalhead throwing up a 'rock on' gesture, hes still absolutely endeared by eddie doing this but he doesn't realize that eddie saying he loves him everyday, what follows is a ridiculous amount of pining where only steve doesn't know because everyone else know what that sign means, he only finds out because after gossiping with robin(who has tried to tell steve that its reciprocated) about eddie, erica interupts their convo by telling steve that eddie tells him he loves steve everyday (that clown is so obviously in love with you, how are you still pining? you're supposed to be a expert, steve?)

Secrets of the Obscure is alright and all but am I the only one kinda miffed that they ripped off a lot of it from Dragon Age: Inquisition and didn't really add or change enough to be it's own unique thing?

even the rift hunting mechanic is Exactly The Same, because you Open the rift, then fight something then close it. the animation is almost 1-1 and even the eye in the rift looks like the Inquisition eye. if it wasn't for the fact that Even The Mechanic is the same I might not have noticed it so much, but the more I play the more blatant it feels

and then their wizard lore also just feels like how demons come out of the Fade in Dragon Age to possess mages. it's almost exact

disclaimer that I'm still enjoying it because it's fun and I like that we get to see Zojja again and have a better map for practicing skyscales for those who don't have one yet, but uh...this whole plot was stolen!

and yes I know there are certain fantasy tropes that re-occur in fantasy over and over, but this doesn't feel like that. it feels like the writers legit just snapped the base ideas from DAI and then barely added or changed anything to make it uniquely Guild Wars

imo it's definitely the weakest of all the packs

which is a shame because I LOVEDDDDD the intro. the whole sequence of having to defend yourself and run for your life was so ridiculously tense, I really felt like I was playing a horror game

but now I'm on Ep. 7 and all the potential feels wasted because I feel like I'm playing the underwritten fanfiction of another game that I already played 10 years ago and didn't like that much the first time

Deadmeat Rem AU

We've seen Twin Swap AUs & recently, I've thrown my own hat (re: Purple Hyacinth AU) into the loop. However, upon rereading @lost-technology's Survivor's Guilt fic & going through our dms, I propose a more unorthodox role swap prompt:

AU where Vash & Rem swap places.

Vash is a Plant engineer who became a SEEDS navigator after losing Alex (he can be Vash's bf or relative in this AU). He's there when Tesla is born & has to live on after her (murder) death (which was his fault, he should've been better, should've done more, fought harder, they were gifted an angel & they slaughtered her). He's the goofy dad who's there through the twin's formative years, desperately trying to be better because he knows his best isn't & never will be enough.

And okay, I'm spitballing a bit here, but imagine: how would this impact Rem? The poignancy of her character comes from her role as much as her personality. In canon, she seemed to be an only child, so how would having Nai as an older brother affect her? How would she handle the Humanoid Typhoon's role? We, as the audience have only known canon!Rem through the 1 year Vash spent with her & snippets of her past, so how would her 150 year life span go?

Or if you want to shake things up further, maybe Nai & Tesla swap roles too. Maybe Nai is the one born first. A boy Plant who could produce metallic material, a weapon at worst & a tool at best. They name him Knives so no one forgets that & Vash nicknames him Nai to say 'no, I do NOT agree with that!'.

Thus, Tesla (maybe with electricity powers??) is the one who decides to end humanity because god forbid women commit crimes /j. Is this is also lowkey inspired by @shelternmberone's Roleswap AU? Yes. GIVE US MORE VILLAIN TESLA AUS!

If you want to go another mile: maybe Luida & Brad take Meryl & Milly/Roberto's places as Ship 3's residents & investigative reporters/insurance agents respectively.

Anyways, what I'm trying to say is, the sky's the limit rlly, which is the whole point of AUs like this.

Wildly oscillating between "LMFAO ah yes, sentimentality? Disgusting I'll drink to that (blasts Bring Me To Life)" and "BECAUSE YOU LOVE HIM DEEP DOWN AND HE LOVES YOU WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH."

I just can't get over how Jeanne says exactly one thing about liking another person and he's like, 'ew dad gave me cooties >:///// how dare he subject me to the mortifying ordeal of hope.' Jeanne I love you. Jeanne I would die for you. Middle schooler with well-meaning stepfather who begrudgingly accepts his kindness and grows for the better, but would rather perish than admit it. I never knew I needed this found family dynamic so freaking bad until I started playing this game. 11/10 I could watch this forever

Also a sidebar because I just can't help myself, I know I've talked about it before but: Mozart and Jeanne's friendship is so endlessly precious to me????? I love how Mozart is so NO I'M NOT NICE REEEEE (turtles) and Jeanne is like :> bestie. It's so damn cute watching Mozart squirm at being exposed for being sweet and Jeanne just truly grateful someone cares about him?????? How much Jeanne and MC dote on Mozart despite being together, how it only strengthens their friendship? Literally I'm over the moon, nobody touch me I'm tender!!! Jeanne deserves to live peacefully without being a tool of the state/bad actors!!!! Mozart deserves to be loved and happy without being defined by his musical success!!!!!

LIKE. Not to be dramatic but I could watch an entire saga of these two being friends and being adorable. Fresh serotonin every single time. Did I know Jeanne was going to share his food? Absolutely. Did I expect MC to think ahead and pack two lunches? Absolutely not. Was I delighted both times? Beyond what you can imagine!!!!!!!

I'm going to stop here at the risk of repeating myself over and over but wow. Jeanne's capacity to see to the very core of people, for better and worse, and how it lets Mozart be meaningfully seen. Mozart's recognition that Jeanne can mean well to a fault, worried that he might be taken advantage of--and how Jeanne can build trust with someone for the first time without being afraid. Naturally, I acquired the Comte and Shakespeare one next. Now, I'm gonna be honest, I saw their names together and went "oh dear God. What am I walking into. Why do I hear boss music????" But I gathered my courage (more like I'm just too feral not to gather info abt Comte, but I digress) and experienced something that left me literally on the floor because I just. Did Not Remotely Expect This Series of Events.

So like. It starts off by being pretty normal and cute and I'm like awwww baby boy (oh he's a little fked up actually) giving gifts to dad. I'm sensing an ulterior motive but right now just let me have this. Also adorable that Comte is struck dumb by it, that's really cute I'm taking notes. And then. I was hit with the veritable ANVIL that was these next few lines:

I LOST IT at the implication that Will was like. Holding back from ending Comte's entire life with mere words. WILL????? WILL P L S??????? (lowkey wanted to hear the roast snickers) Why am I sensing a pattern that Comte loves spicy people??? Love this for me

I also started losing my shit the second MC was mentioned and you could just hear the record scratch/kill bill sirens. Comte really out here like "son say WHAT about MC." I can't get over how he's always so ready to throw down for both MC and Sebas at any moment. Anywho, naturally I come to the conclusion that Will was just trying to one-up Comte to mess with him by giving MC gifts. It was the one thing I did anticipate--and, fool that I was--thought it rendered me safe from what happens next.

“Settled in yet, Harrington?” Steve nearly jumps as Eddie swings down from the rigging. “Not missing your feather bed?” 

Steve rolls his eyes. “Yeah, I’m crying myself to sleep every sundown.”

“Poor baby. Need someone to hold you through the night, huh? We’re a little short on lusty lasses out here, but your good pal Eddie’s always available.” Eddie flutters his eyelashes in that teasing way he always has, and Steve laughs.

“Okay, Munson, I’ll be expecting you in my bunk at six bells.”

Eddie winks, smirking. “It’s a date.”

He shuffles in to lean his elbows on the rail next to Steve, squinting out at the bright morning light splayed over the waves. The salt water stretches out in a blue so deep and pretty that Steve thinks it could pass for a completely different world from the sea he saw last night. 

“Seriously,” he says. “You doing okay? I know it’s…not what you’re used to. The first storm’s always the hardest, and we caught a real nasty one. You want to call it quits after this, you’re not on a long-term thing, no one’s gonna say shit to you.”

“What?” Steve twists around. Eddie’s staring up at the cloudless sky, stray curls escaping from the frayed scrap of linen binding up the bulk of his hair. There are grey shadows under his eyes; he probably didn’t get much rest last night, either.

“I’m not gonna quit,” he says. “Didn’t even cross my mind.”

“Sure. If you change your mind in the next few weeks before we reach port, though…”

“I’m not gonna quit,” says Steve again. 

He’d stepped onto the gangway for the first time less than a fortnight ago, but it’s true that he hasn’t once thought of going back. At least not yet. 

“It’s different out here, isn’t it,” he hears himself saying. Eddie hums in agreement but doesn’t say anything else. 

“I mean,” says Steve, when the silence stretches out. “Everything’s just, like. It matters or it doesn’t. ‘S just easier.”

“Like you can breathe, right?” Eddie nods. “No distractions. Just the stuff you do to stay alive and sane and moving in the right direction. All the bullshit falls away.”

Steve does feel like he breathes different here. The wind has a taste, and it seems to reach every corner of his body when he shuts his eyes and inhales deep. 

And yeah, when he opens his eyes again and there’s nothing ahead except the endless distant edge where the sea blurs into sky, all the shit that he cared so much about even a month ago—the broken engagement, the rejection from the Academy—none of it seems all that important anymore.

There’s just the sea before him, and the sky above him, and the man leaning into the wind at his side.

It’s well past dusk when Eddie shows up at the doorway to the cramped quarters Steve shares with a few other guys. One of those guys is Eddie, so it’s not weird for him to be there, but he lingers in the entrance, fingertips drumming a quick pattern on the rough lintel. 

Even in the low light, Steve can tell he looks a little different. He’s freshly scrubbed, hair unbound but tamer than Steve’s ever seen it before. He’s even shaved the patchy scruff that he’d been sporting earlier in the day.

Eddie looks like he’s made some kind of effort, and it’s that, more than anything else, that sends a near-painful spasm of fondness through Steve.

“Six bells was a while ago,” says Steve.

“I know,” says Eddie, too fast. “I mean. Fuck, this is so stupid, I know you were just kidding—”

“Yeah,” says Steve. He’s not agreeing so much as he’s just saying yeah. “I could be—not kidding, though. If that’s something…”

“It’s something,” says Eddie. He moves closer, into the glow of the lantern hanging from the top bunk. 

Steve’s eyes slip down the column of Eddie’s throat to where his shirt is hanging unlaced, crudely inked lines just barely uncovered at the edge. “Jeff,” says Steve, not looking away. “I got a full bottle of port that’s all yours if you fuck off for, uh…”

“Don’t come back until first light and I’ll throw in the knife I won last winter,” says Eddie. He folds gracefully to kneel between Steve’s legs, hands sliding up his thighs. 

“Pox on both of you,” Jeff groans. “Hand me that port and I’ll go sleep on the deck. Just keep it down, will you?”

Steve looks at Eddie’s dark eyes, his smiling mouth, the capable shape of his hands. Even through the rough breeches, Eddie’s grip feels like the air before a storm.

“No promises,” says Steve, and leans down.

so since I may be free this summer after all, would anyone be interested in an RP event that's a potluck? I've been wanting to do it for ages but there's never any interest compared to other themes

for a discord rp, I would make a separate server explicitly for this purpose so you don't have to be in any guilds or anything! I would also delete the server (or at least channel, if people would like an event-planning server long-term) after a week - enough time for people to read over their stuff but not preserved forever and ever.

When you were in high school/college/university/whatever, did you actually sit down and read the textbook? And I'm NOT talking about fiction, like plays or novels, I'm talking about nonfiction: science, math, language, history, theory, etc. Because every "study skills" resource is like, "take notes when you do the reading!🌟" but who out here is even DOING the reading, much less taking notes?!

I know I, personally, have probably never sat down and read a whole chapter of a textbook, start to finish. But I also know that I, personally, have pretty severe adhd. I usually flip through the book to find definitions and diagrams as needed to answer homework or study questions, and in this way eventually end up reading a majority of chapter. (sometimes)

I asked my brother, who, if he does have a adhd, has a mild enough case to go undiagnosed and graduate college on the first try, and he said he didn't usually read through chapters. But also, he studied engineering, and says most of what he needed to know were formulas.

I'm just finding it hard to picture anyone my age or younger actually reading through a textbook chapter. It just doesn't seem real. So, are any of y'all actually out there doing the readings? Taking notes?
