John and Gale are the hosts of once-popular, now-failing ghost hunting show 100 Haunts. They do not believe in ghosts. All these shows are fake; with scripted, doctored footage. But when they're asked to return to a previous location, their second shoot there captures more and more horrors they can't explain.

John studies him. Holds onto the tips of his fingers as long as he can. Thinks of the scar nestled into the divots of Gale’s spine; old and faded, the apostolic shape of it just as jarring to see now as it was the very first time. John opens his mouth to say something more when Benny turns around, says they’re done, and Gale breaks contact fast as anything to get out of that room.

Mr Cleven’s head is the last to turn, in seemingly no hurry at all to finish what he was doing, writing a checklist of documents due in from his homeroom kids in preparation for the next morning. “Can I help you, Coach?” Now leaning almost leisurely against the doorframe, arms crossed over his broad chest, Coach Egan cuts a tall, distractingly imposing figure in dark sweatpants, a dark burgundy hoodie branded with the school’s crest and an oversized black coat. “Yes, sir, you can. What time do you call this?” he shoots, motioning towards his watch, as if to only illustrate his outrage. There’s a silent, collective intake of breath. Here we go…

former tag team champions, john egan and gale cleven, have had a long-standing feud since the dissolution of their baby face faction in the name of shaking things up in the world wrestling association. while cleven continues to perform as a face, egan has turned heel, much to the enjoyment of wrestling fans the world over who praise him as being one of the greatest antagonists in the world of wrestling.

out of the ring, john and gale don't break kayfabe, maintaining the suspension of disbelief for the sake of entertainment. but what fans don't know is that this isn't necessarily kayfabe, the animosity between the two is real. on top of being wrestling partners, there was a behind the scenes romance that only a select few were privy to knowledge of, and with the end of their reign as tag team champs came the end of their relationship as well.

wrestling storylines have the potential to go on for years. do john and gale stand a chance of rewriting their own?

Last Summer

Bucky's last summer began like any other, with a kiss of the sun, hot and pink on his skin. The trees beckoned him to soothe the ache of that love in their shade. Come, you’ll feel better, they said, and he followed their whispers away from his grandpa's house and into the woods, where he met Gale.

Gale, who was like the gentle wind that glides between stone and leaf, like the cool relief of the spring and the constellations the fireflies draw in the grass at night. He was the smell after the rain. Bucky's sunburn healed, and he traded one ache for another. Love hurt, but he knew he would gladly brave the pain if life came full circle and his summer ended with a kiss.

“Didn’t think you’d actually go through with the costume, though," Gale says, his eyes flicking to the bunny ears perched on John’s head.

“Yeah, well,” John glances away, then back again, staring unabashedly at Gale’s arms before meeting his eyes. “Didn’t think you’d show up looking like you’re about to close a business deal. Where’s your costume?”

Gale shrugs, moving closer, casually sliding an arm behind John. The warmth of his palm against his back is enough to cut through the noise and mess of colours and lights, and John blinks slowly when Gale’s pretty lips curve up into a smile. “Thought I could just wear you instead.”
