It was earlier than that, as early as the 40s. Where do u think rainbow came from? Over the Rainbow touched queer people deeply. Judy’s father and husband/s (2 min) were gay tho she was in denial.
She liked the gays and used outdated words but famously said when she died the gays would riot in the streets. So a lot of ppl took stonewall that way but it mostly had nothing to do w her

Hermione Gingold (The Music Man, Gigi)—a weird weird weird woman. Nobody can angrily rock a feather boa like this queen. Also scrungles perfectly in Gigi.
Bert Lahr (The Wizard of Oz)—I don't know much about his other work but the cowardly lion, i would argue, is peak weird little guy exemplary. i've always felt wizard of oz is the story of three vaudeville gays taking dorothy to the emerald city and i think that's mostly bert lahr's fault (affectionate)
