Tamerlane’s not sure how she gets back from the brink of death. She wakes to Penelope, of course, her eyes hurting even as she opens them. Death had seemed sure but she knew too well that when she wakes to her family she will hear nothing but how much press she’s caused....    Penelope moves to her side when she wakes, checking her vitals and moving to smooth soft hair between her fingers, feeling Tamerlane shudder and speaking as softly as she can.    “Easy... it’s alright...”    “They’ll hate me...” 

“No, they won’t. Morella already came by... she’ll come get you when you can go home, if you want to.”    Tamerlane cries then, deeply pained tears that makes Penelope’s heart ache.    “Whatever they do... you’ll always have Morella... and me.”    Later, weeks and months later, Tamerlane goes home, Penelope checking on her at home and finally trusting that Tamerlane is completely safe.

Okay okay OKAY I was rewatching the jackie death dream and the lottie mall scene because these seem to be to most hmmmm this really feels like a ghost realm scenes we have right?? (Cabin guy, like why would Jackie OR shauna imagine cabin guy, shauna being shown as waking from it, indicated dream share, laura lee shoving lottie back into reality etc are you with me?) So of course I’m reeling about the Alice in wonderland ism of Lottie’s scene BUT but Jackie is offered hot chocolate and she TAKES A SIP and when she looks back to the group after that our ghosts appear and she’s cemented in death!! Laura Lee offers lottie food and she’s watching lottie anxiously and she says WAIT when Lottie’s about to eat and lottie doesn’t get a bite and Laura Lee has a sudden change in tone and she stands and she pushes her and lottie DOESN’T EAT!!! Alice and eat me and Persephone and pomegranate seeds and DO YOU SEE WHAT IM SAYING HERE CAUSE I FEEL INSANE ABOUT THIS

In light of my recent Asclepius and Apollo musings, I feel like it's the perfect time to post this, actually.

How do you build a human being? 

Bold question. Foolish question. But a question it is all the same. 

The memory of his father’s consternated expression is still bright behind his eyes, that unusually furrowed brow, the tension in his gentle jaw. He didn’t falter in his setting of Asclepius’ broken shin, hands perpetually steady and sure, but he hesitated for a conspicuously long moment as though reluctant to give an answer. In this body, he resembled Orpheus something fierce. The same flaxen curls of his hair, the same delicate eyelashes that stand stark against the dark brown of his skin. Often Asclepius wondered if his elder brother was nothing but a body built to suit their father’s preferences. The subtle wrinkle of skin around their eyes when they smiled was the same, and the steadiness of their hands, the soothing power of their presence. 

And Orpheus did not bleed like Asclepius did. The blood in Asclepius’ veins were as red as any human’s, any mortal’s, but Orpheus seemed not to bleed at all. Even when he’d suffered the same fall down the crumbling cliff as Asclepius had. Even when his skirts had ripped and jagged stone sliced into his shanks. 

Even so, Orpheus was unmistakably alive. His eyes were rich with grief fresher than any blood spilt from the worst of Asclepius’ wounds, his counsel too, was tempered with the wisdom of a life well lived. So even at the apex of his most perfect, inhuman beauty, Asclepius never once doubted that his brother was a human being. Just that he was more divine construct than flesh and blood. Just that their father had built for himself a son that would not break as easily as all the others. 

His father stayed silent for so long that Asclepius assumed it would be one of the million questions that would go unanswered. Then, just when the last of his bandages had been wrapped - 

��A human body is easy to build,” he’d had that faraway look on his face as he spoke, like he was speaking to the horizon. Or a version of Asclepius that was not quite here. Such things happened from time to time. “Any flesh would do. From men, or animals, or even monsters. Any flesh would do.” Their gazes had locked then, and Asclepius would never forget the flecks of gold which swirled in his father’s blue eyes, the weight of divine words rattling at the boundaries of their mortal apparatus, “But the breath of life, a living soul? That is beyond your means as a mortal man. You ought never seek it.” 

(Asclepius would remember these words when he revives a man for the first time at the age of nineteen. He’s surprised to find that his father is wrong for once. Souls are easy to source when they’re already eager to return to their mound of flesh.)

I think one of my favorite things about the Sunfire Elves Heat Being Mode is that it can be activated through most strong emotions and in fact one of their stories about the first elf to activate that mode was a gay warrior who after confessing his love to his comrade and getting kissed got so happy he escaped death by entering the Heat Being Mode

the thing i love about bill cipher is that even after i've learned all of this stuff about him, seen him at the most vulnerable he'll ever get, seen him at his most innocent, i still can't give a flying fuck about trying to justify his actions. yes he's traumatized, yes he was twisted into what we know today, and while it gives a semblance of context to why he did what he did, it doesn't matter. he still ruined ford's life. he still drove and baited multiple humans to suicide. he still tormented every human he saw as his ticket out of the consequences of his own actions. he still took delight in his actions. he was willing to commit genocide for fuck's sake!!! (freezing all of the humans into statues). trying to explain away what he did does not get rid of what he did, but it certainly puts it in perspective. you won't be catching me being a bill apologist any time soon <3

while the stables scene is a great example of percabeth's growth as a couple, particularly regarding their switch of roles in who plans for their future. an even better example is when they first told the other they loved them. annabeth, who is a well-respected strategist due to how well she can plan for the future, tells him as quickly as possible before something or someone could take him away from her again. she seized the first opportunity she had free of plan. percy, on the other hand, who is known for his impulsiveness and reckless planning, tells her two books later. not because he wasn't head over heels the entire hoo series. but because he was planning for the right moment. he wanted to wait until he could give her permanence and stability on a silver platter because he knows how much it means to her.
