Hypothermia
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: None Pairing: None Description: Jamie has stage two hypothermia. From Dark December ch. 24.
@medwhumpmay day 26; oxygen mask
Jolt’s P.O.V. “Eighty-five degrees; you sure we can handle this here?” I ask Ratchet. “Yes, she needs to be warmed up. Though by the fire would be great, I’m not carrying all this equipment downstairs.” Ratchet rushes to his medical trailer to warm the bags of IV fluids. I can start with humidified oxygen. “I know you have been hurting, but you don’t know how many Autobots and humans care about you. You don’t know how terrified Drift is. Even Crosshairs and Lightning are, and I think they try to act strong for Drift.”
Ratchet returns as I finish putting the IV in. He brought hand warmers and wrapping. “These are going to hurt in a few days,” Ratchet sighs, looking at Jamie’s fingers which have second-degree frostbite, before putting the hand warmers on her hands, wrapping them, and putting her arms under the blankets, being careful of the IV tube. I can tell he dreads telling Jamie’s guardians, Lightning, and Optimus, her condition.
Lightning’s P.O.V. We decided not to use the drug to keep Drift asleep for the night. It was rough waiting for word on Jamie. We wait two long hours before Ratchet returns to inform us that Jamie has been found and is being treated for serious hypothermia. She hasn’t woken up yet, but we can see her.
Ratchet explains she’s getting warm IV fluids and humidified air through an oxygen mask. We knew Drift would sit on his knees by the bed — being careful of the medical equipment — and cry. It’s not a great sight. This hurts seeing the human I consider my sister like this and why she did this, but this crushes Drift and Crosshairs. I hug Crosshairs, hoping to comfort him. “She shouldn’t be out for long. Should I sedate her until morning?” Ratchet asks. “No,” Crosshairs answers, “while I suspect she’ll wake up crying, Drift will feel a little better hearing that. Though he’ll also hate it, you know what I mean?” “Yeah, I do. I don't like how he’ll avoid sleep.” “We’ll try to get him to sleep,” I assure him. Ratchet gives Crosshairs the capsule with the sleep aid drug if we decide to use it and tells us the treatment should last all night, but we can stop it if we think Jamie is ok. Ratchet walks out of the room as Optimus and Lennox walk in. They don’t stay long before leaving. I know Optimus is not happy about today’s events. Crosshairs and I decide to sleep in this room. We can inflate an air mattress and carry it in here.

Stubborn Sick Mech
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: Mention of poor mental health Pairing: none Description: Drift is not pleased to be sick with the flu during vacation. He struggles to rest and not worry about Jamie. Day 1 of Drift being sick. This is long already, so I didn't write how the entire week he's sick goes.
@medwhumpmay day 25; high fever
After a few busy weeks, Crosshairs and Drift decide to take Jamie to Cade and Vivian’s house for a week. They’ve realized how helpful staying at their houses is regardless of location. They know it wouldn’t be an instant mood change for Jamie.
Crosshairs and Drift are up at six AM. The second Crosshairs sees Drift, he notices the mech looks sick. “You’re going back to bed,” he argues. “I’m fine.” Crosshairs gets the thermometer from his subspace. He decided since it’s cold and flu season, to have easy access to it rather than packed in his medkit. “102°, that’s a high fever Drift,” Crosshairs says, “I don’t have to call Ratchet, we both know that happens with the flu. Have you been hiding being sick?” “No, no point coming here if I would be sick all week. Unbelievable.” Crosshairs gets Ibuprofen from his medkit, while Drift gets his water bottle from his. The displeased mech takes the pills and gets back under the blankets. “I should be able to get her to leave the room,” Crosshairs believes. Drift says nothing. He believes he ruined the week. He gets his phone and finds his note for the soup recipe he’d make when Jamie is sick. He sends the recipe to Crosshairs. Crosshairs is unsure about making soup. He’d rather try than have Cogman make it. Crosshairs gets ready to work out as planned. As Drift relaxes, the chills set in. Now he feels unwell.
Crosshairs makes the soup once he’s done working out and showering. He knows Drift would prepare everything while the chicken is cooking if he’s not using leftover chicken. Cade, Cogman, and Vivian find out Drift is sick. They know Ratchet programmed the holoforms to get sick. Cogman has seen his share of humans being sick. The silver human-sized Cybertronian butler wants to help, but Crosshairs insists he doesn’t need help. Crosshairs lets Cogman cook breakfast.
Crosshairs walks into the shared bedroom. Both his friends are still asleep. He sees how pale Drift looks. He knows when to call Ratchet. Crosshairs hopes Drift will wake up and eat before the medicine wears off. He doesn’t want to wake him. Crosshairs sits on his bed, waiting for Jamie to wake up. He’s finding it challenging to come up with activities. He and Drift had ideas, but he’d rather not stick to the plan without Drift. Crosshairs: do you and Sunstreaker have the day off? Sideswipe: yeah. Crosshairs: Drift is sick. I don’t want to do what Drift and I planned without him. Sideswipe: I’ll tell Sunstreaker. We’ll be there soon.
Drift is up twenty minutes later. He thinks he’ll be able to eat. Crosshairs worries he will refuse to rest, and once the medicine wears off, ignore how unwell he feels. Jamie is up soon after Drift. She can tell he’s unwell. Drift instructs her to dress in the bathroom. “She’s worried already. That’s not good.” “No, it’s not. It’s like she forgets we can catch the common cold and flu. We can deal with this. Even after telling her you’re resting here for the day.” Drift is aware of the need to rest, as he may lack energy after the medicine’s effects fade.
The terror twins are in the kitchen when the three friends enter. Cogman is not pleased with the unexpected visit. Even though he’s slightly better, the twins observe Drift’s unwellness. Crosshairs explains to Cogman why the terror twins are present.  Drift waits until the three eat to tell Jamie she can’t stay in the bedroom with him. He didn’t think Crosshairs would stay with him. Jamie expresses displeasure about staying away from Drift. Aware he’d be sleeping most of the day. She goes with the terror twins outside. “You don’t have to stay with me.” “Not to be rude, but I advise limiting being near Drift before you’re both sick.” Drift agrees, hoping not to bring up his concerns about Jamie. Crosshairs agrees to go outside with the others once the soup is done. Drift goes back to the bedroom. Cogman gets right to disinfecting and cleaning. Commenting on how Jamie didn’t wash her hands before going outside.
Drift sits on the rocking chair on the balcony, watching Jamie and the twins in the yard. He knows being outside is good for him, but he won’t be able to stay outside for long.
The soup is ready soon after breakfast. Crosshairs sees Cogman put a warmer on the counter. He puts enough for everyone in the warmer, and the rest in the fridge. He knows he could just warm up enough soup for lunch at noon, but he’d rather keep it in the warmer. Crosshairs worries about how Drift will feel by then. Four hours from now. The medicine will wear off by then.
Crosshairs find Jamie and the twins in the living room. It’s no surprise Sideswipe is playing video games and Jamie joined him. Sunstreaker brought his sketchbook to work on art. Crosshairs sits with his friends. He’ll check on Drift a few minutes before everyone gets lunch.
Drift wakes up feeling cold and muscle aches. He checks the time on his phone, not liking he won’t be going downstairs for lunch. Crosshairs opens the door, hearing Drift coughing. Drift didn’t know Crosshairs walked in until the mech stood beside the bed. “No way you’re coming downstairs.” “No, unbelievable.” “It’s fine, Drift. At least it’s not either of us getting sick after Jamie gets sick,” Drift lies back down. He knew Crosshairs would take his temperature even though it’ll be at least two days before his temperature goes down. Drift didn’t think Crosshairs had a cooling cloth. The mech didn’t use cold water. Crosshairs puts the bottle of ibuprofen on Drift’s nightstand by his water bottle, “do you want tea?” “No.” “Ok, I’ll be back in a few hours.” Crosshairs leaves the room.
The terror twins are already trying to argue with Prowl about not returning to the base. Crosshairs hears Sunstreaker yelling at the security officer over the phone. “He’s just getting himself in trouble,” Sideswipe sighs, “Prowl doesn’t care.” “I mean Drift is the one sick and I’m fine. Prowl doesn’t think you need to stay. Which you two probably don’t. I don’t think we’ll have much luck getting Jamie to do much. It’ll be like at the base.” “Which you guys were hoping to let happen. We can help keep her busy.” “I will not worry about if Jamie is watching TV or playing video games for hours. You know if we took her into town, she’d be missing Drift.” “Right, I’d rather be here. I doubt Jamie will be difficult but… Maybe we worry too much about her. I know she struggles mentally, but to worry because Drift is sick.” “You two don’t over-worry because Drift is sick,” they hear Vivian, “it’s hard not to stop worrying about her. I think she does better mentally being here.” Drift stands in the doorway. The coughing hints at how unwell he is. “Drift? What are you doing?” Crosshairs asks. “You are sick, and need to rest,” Vivian argues. Drift wants to argue, but he’s regretting getting out of bed and coming downstairs, unsure if he can make it back to the room. Crosshairs and Vivian take Drift back upstairs with Cogman following.
Drift lies in bed, feeling a little better. Cogman puts a cup of tea on the nightstand and leaves. “You need to rest,” Vivian repeats, “you’re worrying about Jamie too much. Shes not happy she has to stay out of the room, but she won’t be difficult.” She hands Crosshairs the cooling cloth to refresh. Drift sits up enough to drink the tea. The hot liquid feels good for his throat. He takes a few sips before lying down. Crosshairs brings a refreshed cooling cloth for Drift’s forehead. The two leave the room.
“I worry about how hard he’s trying to ignore being sick,” Vivian says, “a cold is one thing, even while they can spread, but he’s trying to ignore being sick with the flu and a high fever. I thought you’d be the stubborn one when sick.” “Hey!” Vivian laughs as the two keep walking down the hall.
The twins are unsuccessful in getting a few days off. They can stay for another six hours. Jamie agrees to go swimming after lunch. “Maybe that will tire her,” Sunstreaker comments, “will she sleep elsewhere?” “I should. That’ll be a challenge.”
Crosshairs goes to the bedroom while the three are swimming. He brings soup in a ceramic bowl with a lid. Hoping Drift will be up to eating when he wakes up. He hates how worried Drift has been. Knowing that’s not good for him while sick. The two know they need to do better with their mental health, but it’s hard to watch Jamie struggle mentally.
Drift is awake two hours later. Surprised at the smell of soup. He sees Crosshairs lying on his bed, looking at his phone. Drift’s coughing alerts Crosshairs he’s awake. He sees the bowl on his nightstand. Drift didn’t expect Crosshairs to come to him, standing by the bed. Drift knows he should eat, but doesn’t want to. “You should have taken more ibuprofen,” Crosshairs says, “then you’d be up to eating.” “Are the twins still here?” “Until later tonight. Their efforts to get time off were futile, thanks to Prowl’s usual behavior,” Drift is disappointed. “our friends being here is unnecessary. I know Jamie has been struggling mentally, but she’s not a sparkling. You’re worrying too much. You have a high fever and should be resting,” Crosshairs takes Drift’s hand, “and Vivian thought I’d be the one refusing to rest if I was sick.” Drift smiles. He takes more ibuprofen and eats a little soup. He knew Crosshairs would watch to see how much he's eating. Crosshairs stays for a few minutes before saying he’ll go find Jamie. He takes the empty cup with him. Drift eats a little more soup before covering the bowl and lying back down. He wonders if he’s considered being difficult, how would Crosshairs be if he got sick? Drift knows he’ll be unwell for at least another four days. The fever may persist for that duration.

When Acting OK Fails
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: None Pairing: None Description: Crosshairs worries about Drift as the two watch Jamie in a coma. His efforts to act ok come crashing down. Continued from febuwhump day 20. Perhaps not what's expected but this came to mind.
@medwhumpmay day 16; coma
Crosshairs and the three medics worry that Drift blames himself for Jamie’s coma, despite the situation being beyond his control. Even if he watched her lose consciousness. Jamie would still suffer a moderate flare-up. They also worry about what Jamie said before running off. The medics also worry about Crosshairs brushing his own emotions with this situation aside with worry for Drift.
The medics don’t know that Crosshairs will not be sleeping tonight. He worries Drift will have a nightmare and because acting like he’s ok is backfiring on him. Crosshairs stands by Jamie’s bed, looking at the monitor. She’s stable for now, but knowing she could decline or that the ventilator is breathing for her hurts Crosshairs. He’s struggling to keep it together and leaves the room before he wakes Drift up.
Crosshairs sits on the floor, sweating like he did an intense workout. He takes his leather trench coat off and folds it into a pillow. He lies on the cold floor, hoping that’ll help.
Drift sits on the edge of the cot. Looking at Jamie’s vitals before standing up to walk to the bathroom. He assumed Crosshairs was sleeping on an exam room table rather than the chair. He doesn’t think either could be comfortable. Drift still needs to check on Crosshairs.
The mech wasn’t expecting to see Crosshairs lying on the floor. The second Drift sits on his knees by Crosshairs, he knows what’s going on. He worries this results from Crosshairs acting ok rather than Crosshairs slept on the chair and had a nightmare. He worries about seeing the sweat on Crosshairs. Drift wets a paper towel from the bathroom. Hoping to help Crosshairs. Uncertain if speaking is wise or if he can keep himself composed while saying something. They’ve seen Jamie in a coma from a flare-up before. It’s knowing this is a moderate flare-up with a higher chance of declining. They think about the nightmare situation. “Sit up.” Drift lifts Crosshairs up, discovering how sweaty his neck is. Drift is worried about the potential that Crosshairs is getting dehydrated. Crosshairs feels dizzy and leans on Drift. This worries Drift. He gets his water bottle from his subspace. “Here, you need to drink.” Crosshairs drinks some water as Drift wraps an arm around him.
The two sit in silence for a few minutes until Crosshairs is falling asleep. “Come on, up.” Crosshairs stands up with Drift. He lets the mech lead him into the room.
He sits on the cot. Crosshairs doesn’t argue with Drift as he’s made to lie on the cot. This does concern Drift even while he’d rather not argue. Drift sits on the chair, watching Crosshairs fall asleep. He sighs, frustrated. You need to stop acting ok, Crosshairs. He thinks. Drift falls asleep while on the chair.

Infection
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: None pairing: None Description: The medics find out Jamie has an infection caused by the dirty knife she was stabbed with. continued from day 6.
@medwhumpmay day 15; warmed blankets
The three medics walk into the medbay the next morning relieved everything went well yesterday that Crosshairs and Drift went to their room rather than arguing they need to stay with Jamie overnight. Ratchet and Jasmine attend to Jamie while Jolt reviews appointments and organizes lists.
The two thought Jamie slept on her side until they realized she was curled up. Jamie won’t let either of them touch her. They worry this means she’s in much pain. Her vitals also concern the two medics. Jasmine continues to note Jamie’s condition as Ratchet leaves.
The medic returns in minutes. “This will help,” Ratchet tells Jamie as he injects the contents of a syringe into her IV. The room is silent until the drug takes effect, and Jamie is asleep. “That should last two hours,” Ratchet explains as he moves Jamie onto her back and checks the incision in her abdomen, “scrap, infection. Take a blood sample and a sample of fluid from the abdomen. Those should help with diagnosis along with a CT scan.” They worry about what the issue is and telling Crosshairs and Drift. Worried about their reaction.
The receptionist heard there was a problem with Jamie. They assume they should tell Crosshairs and Drift to stay in the waiting room. This worries both of them. Crosshairs acts like he’s ok as Drift thinks Jamie is dying.
While Jolt and Ratchet run tests, Jasmine notices what time it is. She knows Crosshairs and Drift should have arrived by now. This concerns the female medic.
She sees Crosshairs hugging an anxious Drift before opening the doors to the waiting room. “What’s going on?” She asks the receptionist. “I heard Jamie isn’t doing well, so I —.” “Assumed they shouldn’t be allowed in the medbay!” The two mechs look at her, “come with me.” The two follow Jasmine into the medbay and to her office.
Jasmine tells the two that Jamie has an infection that is causing a high fever and pain in the abdomen. Also, Jolt and Ratchet are figuring out which infection. She knows the two are worried, even as she assures them the infection was caught early. “Come on, Drift, Jamie will be cold when she wakes up,” Crosshairs says as he gets Drift to stand from the chair. Jasmine watches the two leave her office. She waits for Ratchet or Jolt to come in.
A few minutes pass before Ratchet moves Jamie back into the ICU room and meets Jolt in Jasmine’s office. “Tests show peritonitis,” Jolt tells them. “CT scan shows no issues with her organs,” Ratchet adds, “this isn’t a post-surgery infection, but because of being stabbed with a dirty knife. We caught this early.” The plan is antibiotics and pain relief. They also decide to place a nasogastric tube in as Jamie’s ability to eat is uncertain.
Once everything is set, Ratchet sits by the bed, waiting for Jamie to wake up. He wants to assure her she’ll be ok but also is concerned she’ll worry about where her guardians and friends are. Jamie wakes up, searching for Crosshairs and Drift, oblivious to the time. Knowing they’d be here after breakfast. Jamie doesn’t think it’s early morning. She feels like they’re late. Crosshairs and Drifr walk in carrying blankets. “Look Jamie, we warmed blankets for you,” Drift says as the two cover Jamie with the two blankets. They see her vitals and worry about how today will go. Afraid Jamie will decline further.

Targetted
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: None Pairing: None Description: Soldiers target Jamie as she enters the training room. Note; this is part of a story, so there will be transformers.
@medwhumpmay day 12; stabbed
Jamie walks down the hall towards the training room, looking to do a workout. Crosshairs and Drift are aware. Jamie hates that she was expecting them not to let her go to the training room alone. Jamie doesn't think that they'll walk into the training room soon after she starts stretching. Three soldiers walk down the hall. She thinks nothing of it until the three rush as she opens the door. Two of the soldiers pin her to the hallway wall ensuring she can't fight them. Jamie should be able to break free with ease but is struggling. "Make it quick," the female soldier says, "I don't think this grip will last long." The male soldier pinning her to the wall covers Jamie's mouth. She watched the third soldier take out a knife and she questions if he got it from the kitchen. He cuts her arms, creating deep cuts. Jamie fears this isn't all the three planned on doing. After five cuts on each arm, the soldier did as Jamie feared, stabbing her a few times in the abdomen. Jamie's head is smashed against the metal wall, hard enough to knock her out. The three soldiers lay her on the floor and walk away, smiling.

It Was An Accident
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: E Warning: None Pairing: None Description: Jayce causes J.R. intense pain. The decition is to sedate her rather than make her wait for the pain relief medicine to kick in. From ch. 67 of Emotional Pain Hurts as Much as Physical Pain.
@medwhumpmay day 4; sedation
Jayce’s P.O.V. J.R. watched as I walked into the room. Crosshairs is asleep on the other bed. She pointed to the mask she is wearing and then the monitor.  “If you think you’ll be ok,” I say before taking the mask off, setting it within easy reach, and turning the oxygen off. Then she needed water.  “Much better,” she said after drinking from the water bottle I filled. “Until you have to go to the bathroom,” I laugh. “Oh crud, I forget about the damn chest tube. Wait for Jamie to check if it can be removed. I mean..,” she trailed off “It’s fine, I know what you mean,” I laugh. We watched Crosshairs on the other bed. “Oops,” we both said before laughing. Crosshairs moves to sit on the bed. “What’s so funny?” He asks. “Nothing,” J.R. says, smiling.  I attempt to move aside but trip on the chair’s leg, falling onto J.R. “GET OFF!” She yells as tears roll down her face. “It’s all right, Jayce, just an accident,” Crosshairs says before trying to calm J.R. “It hurts so bad,” she sobs. That much pain, even with the pain medication that kept her pain-free until now, shit. “What happened?” Drift asks as he walks up to the bed. “I hurt her again,” I cry. “It was an accident, Jayce,” Crosshairs repeats himself. J.R. doesn't know what to do. Though she can’t move much with the chest tube in place, it hurts to move, but it hurts to stay still. Crosshairs can’t sit with her on the bed either. Drift takes me to the front of the room. “It’s ok, you didn’t mean to hurt her,” Drift says as he hugs me. “This is why I need to go home,” I cry. “No, Jayce…” J.R. starts, but I can tell talking hurts. Damn it; the infusion is just about finished. I can’t increase the rate. Not sure if that would even help. Localized pain relief won’t help. Damn it; J.R. will be in much pain for at least two hours. I prep another IV bag of pain relief medication, trying to ignore J.R.’s crying, while Drift helps Crosshairs comfort her. This is the perfect time for you to walk in, Jamie. I think. I’m about to sedate J.R. to help her, but I don’t want to do it if you won’t agree with me. Crosshairs tells me he and Jamie talked about sedating J.R., and she was leaving it up to him. He permitted me to sedate J.R. I inject the drug, and we watch J.R. fall asleep before I connect the new IV bag of pain relief medication, keeping the settings the same as before. “It’s ok, just an accident,” Crosshairs repeats as he hugs me. I’ve been trying not to cry, but I can’t keep myself from crying any longer. Crosshairs laid me on the other bed. I hate how this is routine now. He knows I could end up having a seizure, an anxiety, or a panic attack.

Avoiding Sleep
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fanfom: Transformers Rating: E Warning: None Pairing: Drift X Jamie (OC) Description: Crosshairs and Drfit realize Jamie hasn't slept in two days. They need to help her get to sleep. Continued from whumpay aftermath 7.
@medwhumpmay day 30, alt 11; exhaustion & alt 12; shaking
Crosshairs and Drift thought Jamie had been sleeping the past two nights. At first, they thought her shaking was because of her being sick, but she hasn’t shown other symptoms of being sick. Jamie remains shaken from the nightmare. Which Crosshairs and Drift are concerned about. Crosshairs goes to get breakfast for the three. Aware of others other than the twins and Lightning would ask what’s going on. Drift watches Jamie get a sweatshirt from the closet to put on. This adds to Drift’s concern since it’s not cold enough to need a sweatshirt.  She hasn’t been sleeping like we thought. Drift concludes. He texts Crosshairs what he’s thinking and to get the twins up here.
Crosshairs accepted his sister would accompany him and the twins, despite his reservations. She also notices something is going on. The three already have a plan. They want Crosshairs and Drift to talk to Rung, but they know that’ll have to wait, hoping Jamie forgets about the nightmare soon.
Sideswipe is successful in getting Jamie to play video games with him. He sees how exhausted she is. “So how are we getting her to sleep?” Crosshairs whispers. “Not with drugs. That’s ignoring the problem. It’s concerning she’s still this frightened. I’m uncertain how cramming in one bed will help, but that’s the best we can do.” “You’re right, but we can’t let her avoid sleeping. It’s already been two days and look how she is. I hope this works.”
The two sit on the couch with Jamie between them. With how exhausted Jamie is and her usual lack of eating; Drift gives in to feeding her. He knows this could become an unhealthy habit, but he’s also concerned about Jamie not eating.
The day is uneventful. The twins and Lightning stay until lunch. They decide not to return. Crosshairs and Drift were hoping Jamie would have taken a nap. They worry about how much she’s fighting about going to sleep.
Crosshairs and Drift decide to get Jamie to sleep at eight. Deciding if she’s not asleep by then, then they’ll use drugs. Worried about how she’ll be tomorrow if they don’t get her to sleep.  Jamie is beyond exhausted, but the nightmare still frightens her. She believes it’s because she’s with Drift and always fears either he or Crosshairs will be killed.
Jamie didn’t think Drift would suggest a bath while she was exhausted. Jamie realizes she forgot Drift would suggest a bath and stay with her when she’s sick, or the last time a nightmare frightened her. He’d stay in the bathroom by the tub. Jamie knows he wouldn’t do it if she showed him she didn’t want him seeing her nude. Drift sees Jamie still trying to avoid sleep.
Crosshairs prepares Drift and Jamie’s bed. He told Drift he was not sleeping in the bed. Jamie was fine sharing a bed with the others, but Crosshairs preferred not to. Once he’s finished, he sits on his bed, waiting for Drift to walk out of the bathroom. Hoping Jamie is asleep.
Drift can’t believe Jamie is still awake after a twenty-minute warm bath. She’s struggling to keep her eyes open. Crosshairs and Drift can’t believe they didn’t see her doing this all day. Once Jamie is dressed, Drift sits on the floor by the tub holding Jamie. Hoping she’ll fall asleep. Drift knows a drive will work. Drift knows Autobots and soldiers will still be roaming the halls. He’d rather no one else knows what’s going on.
Crosshairs sees Drift walk out of the bathroom. He sees Jamie still trying to fight going to sleep. Drift tries what he’s Jamie to calm down; swaying.  This is not good. Crosshairs worries. It’s concerning that she’s scared to sleep, and it’s not ideal if this continues regularly.
Drift tries this for twenty minutes, before trying to lie Jamie on the bed. It’s concerning she won’t let go of Drift. The mech hoped she wouldn’t do this. He and Crosshairs did plan in case this happened. The mech gets into bed while holding onto Jamie. He has her lying on his chest. Crosshairs puts the blankets over his friends and lies next to them. Drift has Jamie lie her head on his chest as he rubs her back. Both mechs remain silent. Crosshairs lies next to Drift, feeling like he’s not helping. Jamie tries not to sleep for ten minutes before giving in. “She’s asleep,” Crosshairs whispers. He gets off the bed, gets in his own bed, and turns off the lamp. Both mechs hope Jamie will sleep all night and won’t remember the nightmare.

Guilt and Sadness
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: Talk of poor mental health Pairing: Drift X Jamie (OC) Description: It's not only Crosshairs and Drift struggling this time as Jamie suffers a flare-up.
@medwhumpmay day 28, alt 8; unconscious & alt 18; chronic illness
Despite the unpredictability, Crosshead and Drift struggle as it’s only been three months since Jamie’s last flare-up. They struggle to relax, knowing she won’t decline and they can keep her in their room. A rule Ratchet decided since the two know how to care for Jamie and she won’t decline. Still, Ratchet worries about Crosshairs and Drift’s mental health that he has thought of telling them to bring Jamie to the medbay, but Jasmine and Jolt advised him not to, pointing out that the two would panic. They also believe daily visits to the three’s room would also worry them.
Ratchet sits in his office, hating he has yet to figure out how to rid Jamie’s body of the chemical and thinking about her list of chronic illnesses. Hating the chemical counts as one as it tries to kill Jamie. Add her anxiety and depression. Everyone hates watching her struggle. Crosshairs and Drift believe this is the worst it has been since they met her twelve years ago. The Autobots who’ve known Jamie longer can’t remember if Jamie has struggled this badly or close. Which they find good rather than bad. Ratchet is one of them.  “Ratchet?” Ratchet sees Optimus has been sitting before the desk, “what troubles you?” “Jamie suffering another flare-up, her chronic illnesses which adds to Crosshairs’ and Drift’s. We know they struggle with knowing grinds and fellow Autobots are dead, but they are struggling a lot more watching Jamie struggle. I feel like I’m failing them.” “I understand. We know mental health is complicated. We don’t know all of Jamie’s battles and missions, but we know enough to know being in battle has affected her mentally as it has us. Add what she dealt with and continues to deal with in her dimension. The bond she has with Crosshairs and Drift affects them differently than the rest of us. Even while Bumblebee and Hound also watched Jamie fight for her life.” They decide Rung will check on Crosshairs and Drift later today and in a few days. They hope Crosshairs and Drift will talk to Rung.
Crosshairs and Drift know they shouldn’t push friends away, but they want to be left alone even from their closest friends and Crosshairs’ sister. Everyone knows the situation and worries about Crosshairs and Drift. Especially Crosshairs since he acts ok. The two mechs pushing them away adds to their friends' concern. “You know that going into the room when they don’t want us is not advised,” Lightning reminds Sunstreaker. “Yes, I know, but they wouldn’t push us away like this. Seldom do they when Jamie is in the medbay. I worry they haven’t recovered mentally from Jamie being in the medbay three months ago. I don’t think they remember the rules set depending on the level of flare-up Jamie is suffering.” “Frag, even with good vitals, they could be thinking she’s dying,” Sideswipe adds, “that’s not something we can ignore, Lightning. We need to tell Rung.” Lightning recognizes the potential mistake of the brothers, but her concern lies in the validity of their claim.
Drift sits on his knees by the bed, holding Jamie’s hand. He knows she’ll be ok, but it’s hard seeing her unconscious like this three months after she was in the medbay. Seeing the oxygen mask rather than the breathing tube doesn’t feel any better. Crosshairs sits next to Drift and hugs his worried friend. It’s still hard for Crosshairs to see Jamie unconscious, but he’s worried about how anxious Drift is. The two see Jamie’s stable vitals. “She’ll be ok.” “No, she won’t. I know she’s stable and won’t decline, but think about it. She’ll be struggling mentally when she wakes up. I know it’s normal because anxiety and depression are chronic illnesses, but this period of… feeling more depressed has lasted almost a year. Add this fragging chronic illness; a fragging poison in her blood trying to kill her. We learned Jamie deals with all this soon after the KSI scrap, but I never thought we’d see her struggling like this. I think this is the worst her mental health has been—.” “I know, it’s hard to watch her struggle. I’m worried about how this is affecting your mental health.” “What about you? You act like you’re ok until you can’t. I know you do this, so you’re not helping me.” Drift doesn’t want to argue, but he strongly dislikes Crosshairs’ behavior. He’s afraid Crosshairs will lash out. At anyone could get Crosshairs into trouble, but he’s worried about Crosshairs lashing out at Jamie. “Scrap,” the two hear. They see Rung standing by the couch. The psychiatrist worries the two Re arguing. “We’re not arguing, Rung,” Crosshairs assures him, “how much did you hear?” “Just what Drift said. The twins and Lightning are worried about you two. Actually, I think more Autobots are. I think you two need to talk to me.” Crosshairs and Drift have no choice but to talk to Rung, despite knowing he can’t help them.
Rung can only listen as Crosshairs and Drift talk to him. He doesn’t believe this is harder on Drift because he romantically loves Jamie. Even if he didn’t love Jamie like that, both Drift and Crosshairs love her as a friend and hate seeing Jamie’s mental struggle. Rung thinks this is why they want solitude more than Jamie’s flare-up. This wouldn’t make sense to their friends, but it does to them. “I’m sorry I can’t help Jamie, but you two need to let your friends support you two. I understand you don’t want to leave Jamie, but it would benefit both of you. You know she can’t decline. I think one of the medics can stay here.” “He’s right Drift. We know we need to take care of our mental health to help Jamie.” “O-ok.” Drift’s response worries both Crosshairs and Rung. The psychiatrist calls Ratchet.
Ratchet walks into the room, seeing how uncertain Drift is about leaving. He convinces Drift to go with Crosshairs. “That bad?” Ratchet asks. “It’s the trauma that’s getting to them and Jamie’s poor mental health.” “Even with these numbers. Jamie is stable. She’s getting the lowest oxygen support possible with a Venturi mask. It’s concerning they can’t think she’ll be ok.” “With this, yes, but they worry about her mental health. I think her desire to be dead is adding to the fear that they will lose her. I hate not knowing what to do,” the psych observes Ratchet, “are you blaming yourself?” “I know you can’t do much for Jamie mentally, but I should have purged the chemical from Jamie’s body by now.” Twenty-two fragging years.” “I know it’s a challenge. You’re trying.” Rung leaves the room. Ratchet sits on Crosshairs’ bed. It’s still hard for the medic to see Jamie unconscious. Tears roll down his face and he lets himself cry, feeling as if he failed Jamie.

Ignoring The Pain
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: E Warning: None Pairing: None Description: Lily hates having a sprained ankle. She ignores the pain to find Sunstreaker. Continuing from febuwhump day 14.
@medwhumpmay day 27; pain meds
Lily lies on the couch with her sprained ankle propped up. She likes playing video games with Sideswipe and watching TV, but she’s getting bored. Unfortunately, there’s not much she can do out of her room at the base. It would be the same if she went home and had her friend come over. Sunstreaker left Lily alone. She’s not sure if he’s doing a workout or painting without her.
Lily feels pain standing up. The pain relief from this morning has worn off. Sunstreaker didn’t leave the bottle of pain medicine on Lily’s nightstand, which Lily doesn’t care about, but she finds it odd that Sunstreaker didn’t put the bottle there. Rather than look for the bottle in the bathroom, Lily walks out of the room. She dislikes using the crutches she was provided with. Lily uses the wall for support.
By the time Lily makes it to her and Sunstreaker’s art room, her ankle is throbbing. She didn’t expect Sunstreaker to open the door. She falls on him. “Lily?” Sunstreaker can feel Lily is putting all her weight on him. That’s all he needs to know her ankle hurts, and she refused to use the crutches. He picks her up and carries her back to her room.
Sunstreaker lies Lily on the bed. Touching her ankle causes a lot of pain. Lily watches him go into the bathroom and walk out with a bottle. “You should have taken these,” he scolds. He hands Lily the bottle and her water bottle, “then you can walk around.” “And do nothing else. I can’t do anything else!” Sunstreaker sighs, uncertain what to say. He lies on the bed next to her. I need to set up an appointment with Rung. Sunstreaker thinks. Lily tries to ignore the pain, but even while off her feet, her ankle is throbbing. She takes the pain medication. She lies next to Sunstreaker and falls asleep.

The Next Step in Jamie's Recovery
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating; E Warning: None Pairing: None Description: Jamie gets most of the stitches removed and is discharged from the medbay. Continued from day 23.
@medwhumpmay day 24, alt 14; stitches
“The injuries on Jamie’s arms and legs healed enough to remove the stitches,” Ratchet tells Crosshairs and Drift. “I know it’s not standard procedure, but could you sedate Jamie when you remove the stitches?” Drift asks. “I’m not doing that. I doubt she’ll be upset, but you two can comfort her.” Crosshairs hugs Drift as Ratchet leaves his office. He too worries about Jamie’s reaction to seeing the cuts. She knows they’re there, but her arms and legs have been wrapped. Same with the surgery incision on her abdomen.
Jamie is getting bored with not being able to train. She knows she still won’t be able to for a few weeks. She’ll be staying in the shared bedroom, likely playing video games with Sideswipe. Ratchet walks in with a cart that appears empty. Crosshairs and Drift following him. Ratchet tells her it’s time to remove the stitches on her arms and legs. The incision still needs time to heal. Drift wants to hold Jamie, but he knows that’ll make it impossible for Ratchet to take out the stitches. He watches Crosshairs get Jamie’s tablet and find something for her to watch. The bed is positioned flat.
Jasmine walks in, seeing Ratchet removing stitches and gets what she needs to remove the stitches from Jamie’s legs. Ratchet wanted to lessen the chances of scars, which meant more stitches. The two are also applying more Vaseline. Crosshairs and Drift still can’t believe what happened when they see the stitched cuts. Crosshairs watches as the stitches are being removed. He doesn’t see scaring. The cuts are healing, and it’ll take a few days to know if Jamie will have scars. He still worries the attack will add to her mental scars. Drift still watches Jamie who is watching TV on her tablet.
Removing the stitches and applying Vaseline takes the medics twenty minutes. Jamie is happy to hear she’s being discharged. The terror twins walk in before the medics leave. Ratchet eyes the McDonald’s bag and drink tray. “Hey, they told us to,” Sunstreaker argues. No one thought Jamie would laugh. They see she’s paying attention to what’s going on. Ratchet informs the twins that Jamie will be discharged and they should meet Crosshairs, Drift, and Jamie by their room. The twins leave as Ratchet removes Jamie’s IV catheter and tells the three about Jamie’s recovery.

Scars
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: talk of poor mental health Pairing: Drift X Jamie (OC) Description: while hoping to prevent scars from the cuts Jamie has, Cro0sshairs ends up thinking about Jamie's mental scars. Continued from day 13.
@medwhumpmay day 23, alt 7; scars
Part of Jamie’s recovery has been helping to prevent scarring. The concern is Jamie’s mental health seeing any scars. Jamie’s friends and the medics doubt that her warrior mentality or disregard for appearances will be beneficial if she ends up with scars all over her body. The concern is her mental health. “It’s hard to know what she’d think, but I’m certain she’d blame herself,” Drift tells Crosshairs as Crosshairs applies Vaseline to Jamie’s arms as she sleeps. “It’s hard to know. I can’t believe this happened. Blaming herself wouldn’t be good, but that would be easy to deal with, unlike her mental scars. I’m done, your turn.” Crosshairs leaves the room as Drift sits by the bed to put Vaseline on the cuts on Jamie’s legs.
A tear escapes Crosshairs’ eye. He’s more surprised at Jasmine hugging him. Before either says a word, Jasmine leads Crosshairs into her office.
Jasmine asks Crosshairs what troubles him. Expecting him to claim he’s fine. He tells her how thinking about whether Jamie will be upset if scars are left from the cuts has him thinking about her mental scars and how there’s nothing he and Drift can do to help her. Jasmine sits with Crosshairs, uncertain what to say. Everyone who knows about Jamie’s, Crosshairs’, and Drift’s mental struggle and Crosshairs and Drift’s trauma hate they can’t help. Crosshairs stays with Jasmine for a few minutes, worried about causing Drift to worry about him if he stays too long.

Late Night Medical Emergency
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: Implied Rape Pairing: None Description: Lily is rushed into surgery for appendicitis. Snippet from Sunstreaker's Charge ch. 65
@medwhumpmay day 18; apendacitits.
Ratchet's P.O.V. Lily is in too much pain to stay still and let Jolt and I examine her. We had to use sedation. "What the?!" Jolt exclaims, "that bastard raped her!" "Hold on; I fear this is something else." I get the portable ultrasound, and we quickly discover the problem. "What the frag is happening?" Jolt asks. "Something tells me Fred thought the nanobots would deactivate and go through Lily's system, but something happened. We'll find out during surgery."
As we're doing surgery, this does seem we're only dealing with appendicitis. The organ does look like it would have ruptured soon. I go to the lab to examine the organ while Jolt ensures Lily remains stable. We might stay in the medbay overnight.
Jolt's P.O.V. It's scary not knowing if this is appendicitis with the additional issue of nanobots or something more serious. For now, Lily is stable.

Not What He Expected
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: T Warning: none Pairing: None Description: Prowl discovers the situation by the training room. Continued from day 7.
@medwhumpmay day 17; forced to stay awake
Sideswipe looks in Jamie’s blue eye, terrified he’s seeing the life fade from them. No one is relieved that Jamie woke up knowing she’s getting weaker.
Prowl walks down the hall. The group of either holoforms or soldiers by the training room raises concern for him. Believing no one would choose to converse there.
Prowl sees the grim scene as he gets closer to the group. Sunstreaker tells him he’s already called the medics. He hears Sideswipe trying to get Jamie to talk to him. Realizing she’s declining and, while it’s believed she doesn’t have a head injury, shouldn’t sleep. Prowl knows asking Jamie who attacked her won’t help. Jamie can’t answer him, but if she could, she’d worry about her guardians and Sideswipe while angering Sunstreaker. Where the frag are those medics? Prowl thinks. “Stay awake, Jamie,” Sideswipe repeats. He doesn’t know what else to do to keep her awake.

The Wait is Over
Author: Autobot2001 Genre: Fanfiction Fandom: Transformers Rating: E Warning: None Pairing: Drift X Jamie (OC) Description: Crosshairs, Drift, their three friends, and the medics wait for Jamie to wake from a coma. Continued from angstpril day 16.
@medwhumpmay day 3; "Squeeze my hand."
The three medics, the terror twins and Lightning struggle to keep Crosshairs and Drift’s anxiety in check after finding out Jamie is suffering stage two hypothermia. The twins and Lightning are worried about Jamie, but they know it’s a fraction of how worried Crosshairs and Drift are. The two asked for the details. They also allowed their friends to hear the details. The two knew it was bad seeing the hemodialysis machine. They’ve never seen that machine before.
Despite Jamie experiencing stage two hypothermia for the second time, her five friends remain worried about her waking up and recovery. This time, the twins and Lightning are afraid to leave the medbay. Ratchet restricts ICU room access to himself, and the other two medics, Crosshairs and Drift. Their three friends stand by the viewing window. Ready to go in if Crosshairs or Drift’s anxiety becomes a problem.
“So, are we forcing Crosshairs and Drift to leave?” Jolt asks. “I know we should be, but n,” Ratchet replies, “they won’t be ok out of the medbay. They’re struggling to stay calm as it is. I don’t think being with friends will help.”
Crosshairs knows he’s not getting Drift to leave. He gets dinner for both of them. By now, the others have left. He knows their friends will be back. He thinks if they all could sleep in Jamie’s ICU room, they would. Drift stares at the monitor. Jamie is doing better than eight hours ago. Her body temperature is a little low but at ninety degrees. He wonders why she isn’t waking up.
Crosshairs and Drift are prepared to argue with Ratchet about staying in the medbay until he enters with a cot. There’s limited space in the room. Crosshairs would sleep on a chair or on the bed in an exam room. Tonight he’s staying in the room with Drift, concerned about nightmares. Drift’s being able to check on Jamie doesn’t alleviate this concern. Crosshairs knows Ratchet wouldn’t let Drift if he’d find anything wrong. Neither are aware this has Drift questioning why Jamie isn’t waking up. Before he leaves, Ratchet takes Jamie off the hemodialysis machine.
Crosshairs is relieved Drift didn’t have a nightmare. He sees Drift looking at the ventilator. They know how to adjust the machine’s settings. Crosshairs worries that’s what Drift had to do. “Drift?” “Ratchet changed the settings last night.” “And?” “Jamie is breathing on her own. If there weren’t a weaning protocol, she’d be off the machine, but I worry why isn’t she waking up?” “You know how complex comas are. She’s doing better.” Crosshairs hugs Drift. He convinces Drift to go to the cafeteria for breakfast. They wait for Ratchet to come in, hoping to share the news of Jamie’s improvement with friends.
The three medics are happy to see Crosshairs and Drift smiling. They know they can’t predict when Jamie will awaken, but they believe it’ll be today. They allow the two to give everyone the good news. Despite Jamie not waking up, this news is good.
After breakfast, Crosshairs and Drift return to the room. Their friends have to work around the base today. They wait in the room, by the bed, until Jamie opens her eyes. They waited two hours - sixteen hours in total - for her to wake up. Both of them smile. Crosshairs goes to get Ratchet. The two rush in within seconds. Drift knows what he’s supposed to be doing to assess Jamie, but doesn’t argue. Ratchet nods, telling him to go ahead. “Can you squeeze my hand, Jamie?” Jamie does as he wants. Drift knew she wouldn’t squeeze his hand as strongly as she could, but enough to know she understood the instruction. Crosshairs, Drift, and Ratchet acknowledge the need for additional testing post-tube removal. The fact that Jamie doesn’t release Drift’s hand is a good sign. Ratchet gets what’s needed to wean Jamie off the ventilator. Despite Jamie breathing on her own since eight last night, he still won’t go against protocol. He can do this part for an hour before removing the tube.
“This is good,” Jasmine smiles. The three watch their friends from the hallway. “They are aware Jamie still has work to do for a full recovery, but they know she’ll be ok,” Jolt adds. “I just wish they didn’t struggle with past trauma when she ends up in the medbay,” Ratchet adds, “I worry they think Jamie was hoping to die in battle with Austin that she didn’t put up a fight. We’ll never know what happened, but that is concerning.“ “Let’s ignore that for now,” Jasmine insists.
