An Unexpected Situation

Jazz walks down the street to the dance club. Instead of walking an hour, he would drive most of the way, parking his alt mode and walking the last ten minutes. Walking by an alleyway, he hears trash lids dropping onto the concrete. Jazz doesn't think it's a cat. He enters the alleyway, unaware of a youngling searching through the trash. "Hey, kid," the boy looks at Jazz, who is alarmed by how filthy the youngling is. Believing it's not because he's going through the trash, "what are you doing?" The youngling doesn't answer. They get out of the trash bin. Jazz can't believe what he's seeing. Aside from the filthy clothes, the youngling is thin. Jazz gets out his phone. "Ratchet, I'm bringing a youngling to the base. I know the human hospital is an option, but—." "I could meet you at the hospital, but sure, bring them here." Jazz ends the call "Hey, kid, my name is Jazz. I can take you somewhere safe, and you can get clean clothes and food." The mechling hesitates to go with Jazz but agrees, hoping Jazz doesn't call the police.

Ratchet couldn't believe the state of the youngling as the youngling and Jazz walked through the doors from his ambulance bay to the medbay. It's clear to the medic that the youngling needs a bath. He needs to check for injuries that must be taken care of first. Jolt, Jasmine, and Ratchet are accustomed to handling a quiet patient but are concerned about this youngling's silence. "He wouldn't talk to me either," Jazz tells them. Things are more grim as the boy's clothes are taken off. Bruises are all over his body. The medics don't find any cuts, but Ratchet wants to take X-rays. The youngling is afraid to get the X-rays done but relaxes quickly.

Jazz can view X-rays with Jolt and Ratchet while Jasmine bathes the youngling. "I think he'll like the jets," Ratchet jokes. The three mechs smile until Ratchet puts the X-ray on the X-ray viewer. The improperly healed ribs are obvious, "I don't think this kid was choosing an odd activity for fun."

Ratchet has the youngling stay in the ICU room across from his office. This is to help him feel safe. Jazz sits beside the bed, watching the mech, who is afraid to get an IV put in for fluids. I don't think this is the typical youngling afraid of needles. Jazz believes. Once Ratchet is done and the infusion begins, he gives the boy applesauce and a spoon. "I know you're hungry, but it's safer to start with this, and I want you to go to sleep." The youngling nods and takes the items, and Ratchet leaves the room. Jazz desires the mech to communicate, yet he lacks knowledge of how to do so because of the mech's fear. Jazz stays until the youngling is asleep, relieved that he didn't take long after eating to fall asleep.

Jazz is back in the medbay early the next morning with Ratchet. The youngling still won't talk. Instead, he nods to answer Ratchet's question if he likes pancakes. Optimus and Prowl's holoform arrive before Jazz can leave. The youngling panics. "No," he says. "You're safe, kid," Jazz assures him. "I just want to ask what happened. Why were you in the alleyway," Prowl explains. The four mechs are confirmed in their suspicions: the youngling has been abused and ran away from home a week ago. The youngling won't say his name but gives his address. The four mechs leave the room. Rung waits in the hallway.

"We have enough evidence to forbid his parents from going near him," Prowl argues. "He doesn't feel safe anywhere. I think letting him stay here for a while is wise," Rung advises. "Agreed, Jazz, you will be the boy's guardian," Optimus decides. "Yes, sir." Jazz is relieved to avoid arguing with his leader about being the mechling's guardian. Everyone hopes the boy will feel safe and start talking. Prowl can find his name, but everyone wants him to tell them. "He'll be staying here for a few days," Ratchet tells them, "until I know he can eat without a problem. He's underweight, but it's not severe."

Jazz tells the youngling he'll be his guardian, explaining what that is and that he's safe before making the pancakes the youngling wants.

What if the Sparklings were Mosaic?

So I promised @itzbeearts that I would get back to their ask about my sparklings from my Rescue Babies AU as mosaical forms (hopefully I understood that correctly-)

But! It also gave me excuse to redraw their references with an updated style from the last time! So Snowblast will start us off—

Snowy would be an ice mosaic. Not quite water, not quite air, he is a figure that would send a chill running through the room as soon as he enters (though not from fright, he is quite warm-hearted, actually!) His body appears composed of shards of ice and is quite cold, so mind his sharp edges!

Downpour mimics her "Father's" water element, but essentially has her crest and limbs be replaced with water which makes her a lot more clumsy, as they are not the giant, sturdy pillars of metal she's used to.

Jolt mimics her "father's" element of electricity, as she already has that ability back home. However, her mosaic form is a lot more "wild" in nature, taking on more of a draconic form rather than humanoid.

Jack was probably my favorite because he's the only sparkling from that AU to not have an elemental power or dinobot mode to base off of. His "Ghost" element is a reference to his title as the "Miscarried Sparkling" (He was considered miscarried before emerging months later as the older twin to Jolt)

His powers consist of intangibility, voice projection, telekinesis, and mist manipulation. He would primarily avoid dangerous situations, but he'd do well in helping provide cover for the others if they needed to escape human eye.

Do not mock my horrible attempt at his vehicle mode, I don't draw cars like... at all (ironic given my time in this fandom XD)

I may do a part 2 for the other ones, but these four are up! You're welcome XD

Hidden Danger

When Jamie wakes up with a sore throat, she believes she is getting sick. She feels like she has a cold until the afternoon when her throat hurts more and feels like it is swelling. Crosshairs lifts her head by her chin, which Jamie finds odd. "Scrap, Drift." The two observe that Jamie's lower neck is swollen and red. Saying nothing, Crosshairs picks up Jamie, and the two mechs rush to the medbay.

The additional concern is Jamie's oxygen level is a little low. It's not an emergency, but with Jamie's lower neck being red and swollen, the medics are concerned about serious illnesses.

Because of the monitor chip's metal, an MRI is impossible. Jamie undergoes a CT scan. While the medics, Crosshairs and Drift are relieved Jamie isn't panicking, they worry about how calm she is. The medics confirm that Jamie needs surgery.

"Wow," Jolt says. The two observe that Jamie's throat is swollen and there are minor burns. They can tell the monitor chip malfunctioned. The concern is that a small amount of energon powers the chip. Ratchet takes a tissue sample to check for energon, while Jolt removes some burnt tissue. How was this not causing excruciating pain? Jolt questions. Even if this is a tiny section of her throat. "We can't put a new monitor chip in for at least two weeks," Ratchet tells Jolt, "The good news is no energon poisoning." "I know her throat needs to heal, but the risk we're taking." "We'll be fine, but I can inform Prowl that Drift will have two weeks off. Unless Jamie gets an infection in the next three days, she doesn't need to stay in the medbay. This never happened before. Why now? Add, it's been eight years since this one was out in." "I wouldn't worry about it." The two finish surgery, relieved the swelling isn't severe that they need to intubate, and move Jamie to an ICU room. Ratchet still plans on examining the malfunctioned chip.m, but for now, Jamie and her guardians are his priority. Hating the trauma Crosshairs and Drift struggle with whenever Jamie ends up in the ICU.

Ratchet assures the two worried guardians she'll be okay and mentions that he's keeping her in the ICU for three days before discharging her. The two guardians worry about the delay in putting a new monitor chip in but understand Jamie's throat needs to heal. They hope Ratchet can determine what occurred and if it's preventable. They wonder if their mistake was missing signs of the chip malfunctioning. Hoping the delay in putting a new one in doesn't turn into a mistake, but it's been years since the emergency system had to kick in. They sit by the bed. Jamie is on a little oxygen via a venturi mask. They wait for her to wake up. Ratchet suspects Jamie will feel as humans do after getting their tonsils removed, and recovery shouldn't be any different except that Jamie will need another surgery.
