As she makes her way down the hallway, Liliana feels what is perhaps an unwarranted set of nerves settle in her stomach. It isn't like she will be the one on the ice (Thank god. Not even Taner's enthusiasm had been enough to make up for her lack of balance last time she tried), but she knows how important tonight's performance is in order to qualify for the first post-season competition. She also knows that without Taner, Adem, and Joel in town to cheer Derya on, there are some big shoes to fill.

Not that this is a role she minds filling in for. Given their mutual friends, the two have ended up spending plenty of time together. She has gotten to know Derya well and to consider her a friend even without the Kavas brothers there to bring them together.

"Hey!" Her smile is automatic as she comes to a stop. "Wow, you look amazing. I'm glad I found you before you went on. Joel left very specific instructions about your pre-skate routine, so here I am," Liliana says with a fond roll of her eyes. "How are you feeling?"

At the company retreat, one extremely drunk girl asked what my pronouns were. (Eventually, it took her a while to word the question.) After the whole conversation was done, she goes- "YEAHHH GURL, Get on with--with THY bad self! See what I did?? They/them/thy."

do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

Ive said this before but swear the biggest skill to learn as an adult is how to resist high-pressure sales tactics. You do NOT have to answer questions with anything other than "Sorry I'm not interested." No matter how nice they are or no matter how many follow up questions they ask or even how agitated they get when you stand your ground. Just keep saying I'm not interested. Don't answer their questions. Don't give them an opening to try to push back on your reasons. Be a fucking brick wall of I'm not interested.
