Fandom Trumps Hate 2025 Calendar

We're back, folks! FTH is back for be our ninth (!) auction, and there's lots of good work to be done. (What is Fandom Trumps Hate?)

In this post you'll find the calendar for the 2025 auction, along with links to some useful information, including this year's list of supported organizations. (All of these same links can be found in our masthead, but since that's not visible on mobile we wanted to make them easy to find elsewhere.) You'll also find dates for our Crafts Bazaar. (wait, the what? Read more at our 2024 Crafts Bazaar page.)

Here is this year's list of supported organizations. We'll be posting more detailed profiles of each of them over the coming weeks. We also encourage you to look at the Auction FAQ (which has lots of useful information for people thinking about signing up as creators, as well as dedicated sections on bidding and on nonprofit orgs.) If you're raring to go, you can look at our bidding policies.

Lastly, in a couple of weeks we'll be kicking off our newly-revived offscreen activism blog @fthaction. Why not give it a follow?

FTH2025 Auction Calendar

Monday, January 20th: creator signups open for both the auction and the crafts bazaar

Sunday, February 2nd: creator signups close; craft bazaar signups remain open!

Friday, February 21st: browsing period begins, crafts bazaar announcement goes live

Tuesday, February 25th, 8am ET: bidding opens

Saturday, March 1st, 8pm ET: auction bidding closes

Monday, March 10th: craft stalls close

Wednesday, March 12th: proof of donations due

Wednesday, December 31st: fanworks due

...and if you're thinking the gap between the end of signups and the beginning of browsing period looks long: we have also noticed this! In order to accommodate some back-end changes that will help the auction run more smoothly, we've given ourselves an extra week to get ourselves set up. We've also got some stuff in the works to occupy that time -- we'll say more about that when the time arrives.

Together, we're going to make sure that there is at least one (1) good thing in the world with the number 2025 attached to it.

Always an experience watching the leftism leave FNAF fans when someone mentions that Scott Cawthon financially backed fascist politicians.

The switch from posting hardline leftist tweets about boycotts and signal boosts and critical takedowns of politicians and celebrities to ‘ohhh, well. everyone makes mistakes. who can blame him, listen he. he donated money to gay charities too. that makes it ok! a millionaire in his forties is allowed to have political beliefs. does it even matter? just let it go!’ is whiplash inducing. The antivaxxer celebrities have got to go, but this one horror dev who quietly handed wads of cash to antivax lawmakers? He’s chill, he can stay.

The charity thing is so funny too because suddenly utilitarian positive-negative point counting is the way to go. Maybe an abacus would help calculate the net good of donating to the Trevor Project minus donating thousands of dollars to Mitch McConnell and Donald Trump. -10 points if I push a kid in a lake but +11 points if I help an old lady across the street, so I’m chill. You can’t judge me. Hey, maybe. Just don’t push a kid in the lake period. How fucking low is the bar when we’re excusing maxing out the possible dollar amount of donations to Mitch fucking McConnell. A lot of life happened between the commission date and now, but I'm very proud of how this turned out, and I know that 2021 Rebecca wouldn't have been able to create this, so the time was worth it. (No offense 2021 Rebecca, we've just grown as an artist.)

Reminder to anyone who reads/writes fanfiction: buy a hard drive/flash drive/whatever you can get your hands on and download as much fanfiction as you can.

Once tr*mp hits office, one of the first things related to project 2025 is the banning of porn and all sexually explicit material. This can and will include fanfiction off of here, AO3, Wattpad, etc.

If they’re small one shots, print them off so that you have physical copies. If they’re too big to print, either do it in multiple sittings or download onto a flash drive. Downloading to your files is no longer a good option. You need something physical that is separate from your main device.

I hate that this is what we’ve come to, but we’re literally doing this prohibition style.

As a side note, make sure that if you’re reading any books involving queer content, that will most likely be counted as sexually explicit once these laws go into effect. Start stock piling on any books you’ve been planning to buy. There are several lists of books that will be banned, so go look at those if you need any ideas.

Edit: thank you @theladyoffangorn for letting me know to include this! AO3 will be very low on the list of things targeted by these new laws! The biggest issue for fanfic readers is that more authors will be deleting, orphaning, or putting their works on private. Make sure to check out the AO3 subreddit if you need any help with downloading fics. Remember, laws like these take time, so this will not happen right away. You have time to get your bearings, so please do not panic like I did while writing this.
