Fandom Trumps Hate 2025 Calendar

We're back, folks! FTH is back for be our ninth (!) auction, and there's lots of good work to be done. (What is Fandom Trumps Hate?)

In this post you'll find the calendar for the 2025 auction, along with links to some useful information, including this year's list of supported organizations. (All of these same links can be found in our masthead, but since that's not visible on mobile we wanted to make them easy to find elsewhere.) You'll also find dates for our Crafts Bazaar. (wait, the what? Read more at our 2024 Crafts Bazaar page.)

Here is this year's list of supported organizations. We'll be posting more detailed profiles of each of them over the coming weeks. We also encourage you to look at the Auction FAQ (which has lots of useful information for people thinking about signing up as creators, as well as dedicated sections on bidding and on nonprofit orgs.) If you're raring to go, you can look at our bidding policies.

Lastly, in a couple of weeks we'll be kicking off our newly-revived offscreen activism blog @fthaction. Why not give it a follow?

FTH2025 Auction Calendar

Monday, January 20th: creator signups open for both the auction and the crafts bazaar

Sunday, February 2nd: creator signups close; craft bazaar signups remain open!

Friday, February 21st: browsing period begins, crafts bazaar announcement goes live

Tuesday, February 25th, 8am ET: bidding opens

Saturday, March 1st, 8pm ET: auction bidding closes

Monday, March 10th: craft stalls close

Wednesday, March 12th: proof of donations due

Wednesday, December 31st: fanworks due

...and if you're thinking the gap between the end of signups and the beginning of browsing period looks long: we have also noticed this! In order to accommodate some back-end changes that will help the auction run more smoothly, we've given ourselves an extra week to get ourselves set up. We've also got some stuff in the works to occupy that time -- we'll say more about that when the time arrives.

Together, we're going to make sure that there is at least one (1) good thing in the world with the number 2025 attached to it.

FAM fanworks for a better world!

So okay: on one level, every FAM fanwork already makes the world a better place just by existing. Yes? Yes.

But consider: what if your fanwork could also fulfill the hopes and wishes of another FAM fan, and raise some money for a progressive nonprofit, all at the same time? Could all of these amazing things be possible at once, even in our timeline?

friends: they can.

When you sign up to create a fanwork for the @fandomtrumpshate auction, you are giving your fellow fans the opportunity to prompt you. Those fans will bid competitively for that opportunity, and the winner will make a donation to one of the amazing nonprofits on this year's auction list. After that, you'll have until the end of 2025 to work out a prompt with your winning bidder and create their fanwork.

The full auction calendar is here (along with links to the FAQ, some information about the Crafts Bazaar, and other useful info) but the main thing you need to know right now is that creator sign-ups begin on January 20th and run until February 2. You've still got some time to decide... but start thinking about it now! It's also definitely not too early to start plotting your bids on your fellow fans

FTH is an online fanworks auction, designed to raise money for progressive nonprofit organizations that help and support marginalized people.

Sign Ups: Jan 20-Feb 2 Browsing: Feb 21-25 Bidding: Feb 25-Mar 1 How does it work?

Each Creator can make up to 3 auction offerings, and it can include ANY kind of fanwork, for example:

Written fanworks (fic, poetry, remixes, etc.)

Fanart, which includes but is not limited to digital art, scanned art, gifsets, manips, moodboards, etc.

Podfics

Fanvids (including fancams)

Fan labour, which includes but is not limited to betaing, brit/japan/america-picking, or offering specialist expertise

When the time comes, bidders will bid on these offering, and when the auction ends, the winner will donate their high bid to one of the non-profits on the creators list. The Creator will then fulfill the offering for their high bidder.

Fandom Trumps Hate 2025 Auction

I am strongly considering signing up as a creator for this year's Fandom Trumps Hate auction. This blog post has all the info you need to learn about the event. In a nutshell, this is an online fanworks auction designed to raise money for progressive nonprofit organizations that help/support marginalized people.

(Please note that this event does NOT sell fanworks. Winning bidders donate directly to nonprofits, and the creators create a work as a thank you gift. The creators and event organizers do not receive any money for this.)

Since it would be my first year, I would only offer one fanwork to ensure I don't stretch myself too thinly. I'm hoping that my fandom friends and followers can give me some opinions on what would be the best type of fanwork to offer up!

Types of fanworks I am considering offering:

Writing a fanfic

Betaing a fanfic

Typesetting a fanfic

Binding a fanfic

My Considerations:

I have by far the most experience in writing fanfic. However, this is also the category I'm most picky about. In the HOTD fandom, I strongly prefer to only write fics in my House Full of Daughters universe (as opposed to a blank slate for writing anything in HOTD). This would severely limit the potential pool of bidders, so it isn't conducive to the event's purpose, which is raising money for nonprofits.

There is the option to offer writing a fanfic for a different fandom where I'm less picky. For example, I would have broader horizons for writing GOT-era fanfics that don't involve HOTD. I also would be OK with fandoms like Hunger Games, Shadow & Bone, Lord of the Rings (Peter Jackson movies), and others I could list out later.

I haven't formally betaed for another person's fanfic before, but I have participated in editing and critique exchanges for original writing. I meticulously edit my own fanfics, and I would apply that level of meticulousness to anything I beta. I also read a lot of historical nonfiction, so I can offer research help, which would be useful for anyone writing an ASOIAF fanfic. I'm just not sure how popular betaing is as an auction item.

I only started typesetting and binding last year, but I like to think I've gotten the hang of it! I would be OK with typesetting a fanfic in lots of fandoms. The limitation with this is that if you aren't a bookbinder (or friends with a bookbinder who'll do it for you), I'm not sure how useful a typeset would be if you bid on it.

Likewise, I would be OK with binding a fanfic in most fandoms. However, if the fanfic doesn't already have a typeset that someone else made, then I would need to make the typeset, which doubles the workload. Shipping might be tricky, especially if it's international.

If anyone has opinions or suggestions for any of the above, please feel free to comment, send a DM, or send an Ask! I would love to make a meaningful contribution to the event (and hopefully enjoy myself as I create the fanwork).

FTH is an online fanworks auction, designed to raise money for progressive nonprofit organizations that help and support marginalized people. In the past seven years, thousands of fans have joined forces to raise nearly $240,000 for a range of progressive organizations.

All fandoms and pairings are included. So, what are you willing to offer? If you are an author, artist, beta, or provide other services within fandom, all are welcome!

You can offer any type of fanwork that can be delivered digitally, including:

so as a brand new podficcer, i am super excited to participate in this year's FTH auction! i'll link it HERE when the auction goes live but in the meantime, here's what i just submitted in the sign-ups as my author profile:

my very favorite and oldest ship is wangxian from mdzs/the untamed! i am active in svsss fandom for bingqiu, bingyuan, binggeyuan, qijiu and moshang and sometimes bingliushen. i am active in the tgcf/heaven official’s blessing fandom for the hualian, beefleaf and fengqing ships. i have an ongoing love affair with guardian and the weilan and chuguo ships. i am active in the word of honor/shl fandom for wenzhou and yexie ships.

fandoms that i enjoy but don’t live in: gideon the ninth (the locked tomb) for the main griddlehark ship. star trek (tos & aos) for spirk! due south for benton x rayk; marvel for stucky; h50 for mcdanno; top gun & top gun maverick for icemav (ICEMAN LIVES) and hangster; yoi for viktuuri; dc for superbat

all that being said: i am willing to podfic for any fandom & any ship that is not pedophilia or parent/child incest. however, if you pick a fic from a fandom i'm unfamiliar with it will take me a lot longer to get started reading it since i'd have to check out the source media to do the project justice. oh! consider picking a few shorter pieces that add up to your total bid-related word limit ($10 per 1k) to mix and match our favorite fandoms???

->Are there particular subjects, themes or tropes that you are particularly interested in focusing on?

i will read polyships, crackships, rarepairs. i celebrate bi-visibility, acespec rep and queerplatonic found families! i prefer to create for a ship that is queer, whether that is gender identity or sexuality. i like neurodiverse characters (explicit or implied).

i like to support wips. my favorite fic of all seems destined to languish an unfinished wip. i hope that one day it will get enough love to reinspire the author and reconnect them to their desire to write it. got a fic like that? I’M SO THERE

i like all sorts of tropes and rating levels. from gen fic and kid fic thru teen shenanigans and ranging all the way thru to Let’s Get Weird and Have a Kinky Fun Time! lets do a crawl thru the tags on my bookmarks:

i have 3 hard-no things: fics containing actual noncon between the main ship; pedophilia in the main (point of view character(s)) ship; parent/child incest in any ship. those are a firm pass for me.

these are things that i do not enjoy and would make it difficult for me to continue reading a fic if they are a majority of the content: torture porn (hurt/no comfort and hurt with no purpose other than to cause pain & suffering); spiders & other bugs; angst with no guaranteed happy ending; miscommunication with no resolution; manipulation and/or gaslighting between main ship; intentional & unresolved infidelity between main ship characters

i will typically refuse to read sex acts involving the following, but invite you to make your case if you feel very strongly about it (or it 'occurs off-screen’): scat, vomit, piss, bestiality, vore, explicit non-con, your name fics (y/n), reader x character-in-one-of-my-main-ships, genderswap to force a hetero pairing from an originally explicitly queer ship

firstly! pick a fic from an author with blanket permission or reach out to them for permission to podfic before bidding closes. i can help you do this if you’re not comfortable reaching out directly to the author. (aside from ao3 and tumblr, i am available via my fandom email xkspods9 @ gmail [.] com) [btw, if you don’t win my bid, i am homebound, unemployed and looking to record podfic in every fandom that i love. just reach out!] if you like my reading style but don’t have a fic picked out, i would be thrilled to have you choose from my ao3 bookmarks! also, i don’t mind recording for a fic that already has a podfic. TWO CAKES BABEY!!!

my “brand” is what i like to call “bedtime stories” podfic. due to some circumstances beyond the scope of this post, my podfics are recorded on my secondhand e-reader in a very basic app. i usually read curled up in bed or in my favorite chair. i like to imagine my close fandom friends as the intended recipient to give it a cozy hangout charm. so the concept goes like this: “bedtime stories is a very chill, completely unedited, live-read style podfic. the vibe is like i'm the grandpa from the movie the princess bride and you need a distraction bc maybe you're not feeling too great today. so you get comfy and i'm gonna read you a story.”

one of the reasons i started making podfics is bc i am post-T-puberty genderqueer transmasc and learning to lean into and love my new voice. i am experimenting with and learning how to do consistent character voices, but it is not a strength of mine at this time. and, again, my ability to do that will depend on my familiarity with the characters and the source media. i also sometimes play songs in the background to help me focus (autism & adhd here), especially for longer projects (but i’ve figured out how to play the music directly in my headphones while still recording, if you don’t want to have what i am listening to also recorded while i am reading)

i like to pair music videos/fanvids/gifs with my podfics in the ao3 post to make it a fun multimedia experience (and like a game for me!) even with my nonexistent editing and post-production style. i welcome the bidder to share their “fandom propaganda”--i want to know why you love the fic(s) and why you chose it to be podficced! and maybe i'll feature a fanvid you shared with me in the ao3 post!

so. if what you want for your podfic are lots of post-production editing with added sound effects & soundscaping/music effects, with a “perfect” read and no environmental noise or outside interruptions: i am not the person to make that project for you. if you don’t mind/actively enjoy a "friendly hangout & fandom chatty" sort of cold-read & zero-editing style, then bid on me!

Coming Soon: FTH 2025

Happy new year, everyone! Even if a lot of things about the future are looking grim, there's lots to look forward to, including the good work we can do together.

We'll roll out this year's auction calendar and supported organizations in the next few days, along with some more information about and plans for @fthaction.

In the meantime, you can help us get ready in two ways: 1) Spread the word around your fandom! The more fanwork creators we have in a given fandom, the more fun the auction is for folks in that fandom.

2) Help us figure out what new fandoms to add to this year's list. As always, you can sign up to create fanworks for literally any fandom at all; still, it's easier for everyone if that fandom is included in our dropdown. So if you think something is going to be popular in the coming year, let us know in the notes!

We're looking forward to running the auction for again for our 9th year, to raise money for great causes via your fandom talents.

I joined up! I will have two works on offer this season, a 5-10K new work, and a 10-20K remix of one of my existing Justified fics.

As of today, there are a total of 7 Works that have been submitted for Justified fandom, which is AWESOME! I think we can do better though, so if you want to join, Sign-Up as a Creator before Feb 19th For those of you that don't know, you have from March 16 (Bid Proof due) to Dec 31 2024* to create the fanwork you have offered.

CHARITY EVENTY! CHECK IT OUT!

It is @fandomtrumpshate! The browsing of the offerings has started, and the biddings run from 8:00AM EST, 5 March 2024, to 8:00PM EST, 9 March 2024. All the money goes to nonprofits!

I haven't seen anyone in the bandom involved in this, even though I've seen my past fandom spaces jumped right in, I wanted to offer bandom fics for this charity event this year!

I would absolutely suggest looking at the event and the charities/art/fanwork they support.
