FTH 2024 Auction Calendar

We blinked, and it's 2024, and our EIGHTH year of running this auction. 2024 has all the same problems as last year but more — but we also have a lot to be hopeful about, and a lot of good projects worth supporting and fighting for.

You can look at this page (also linked in our header) for the list of this year's supported nonprofit organizations. We'll be posting more detailed profiles of each of them in the coming weeks. Below is the full calendar for this year's auction.

February 5th: creator signups open

February 12: Fan Craft Bazaar signups open

February 19th: creator signups close

February 29th: browsing period begins, Fan Crafts Bazaar opens

March 5th: bidding opens

March 9th: bidding closes

March 16th: proof of high bid donations due

March 20th: Fan Crafts Bazaar closes (individual stalls may close sooner)

March 21st: proof of 2nd chance donations and Craft Bazaar donations due

December 31st: fanworks due

Back in 2021, as we were pulling together the fifth FTH auction, we joked together behind the scenes about how great it felt that the name of our auction was no longer quite as on-the-nose as it had been in our first few years. But it's 2024, and in all likelihood 45 will be back on the ballot: just one of the many sobering and scary things we're facing down this year.

But for the past seven years, we've had the privilege of watching thousands of fans -- yes, literally thousands -- dedicate their time and money and energy to the twin projects of sending support to some amazing organizations while building and strengthening community ties within fandom. Now, more than ever, that kind of community-building is essential.

We hope you'll join us, and join one another, in sending much-needed financial support to these amazing organizations and in putting more joy and beauty out into the world in the form of fanworks. These are dark times, but when we join together we can make them a little brighter.

Sign-ups begin February 5th for all creators.

A little bit about Fandom Trumps Hate

FTH is an online fanworks auction, designed to raise money for progressive nonprofit organizations that help and support marginalized people. In the past seven years, thousands of fans have joined forces to raise nearly $240,000 for a range of progressive organizations.

All fandoms and pairings are included. So, what are you willing to offer? If you are an author, artist, beta, or provide other services within fandom, all are welcome!

Check out the list below for different types of fanworks and fan labor to get an idea of what you may like to sign up for.

You can offer any type of fanwork that can be delivered digitally, including:

written fanworks (fic, poetry, remixes, etc.)

digital art, which includes but is not limited to gifsets, manips, mood boards, etc.

podfics

fanvids (including fancams)

fan labor, which includes but is not limited to betaing, brit/japan/America-picking, or offering specialist expertise.

Fandom Trumps Hate is a fanworks auction for progressive causes. Very simply put, you bid on a fanwork, if you're the highest bidder, you donate directly to a charity from the list and send proof to the organizers, and the person whose auction you won will be making the fanwork for you before the end of the calendar year! I joined up! I will have two works on offer this season, a 5-10K new work, and a 10-20K remix of one of my existing Justified fics.

As of today, there are a total of 7 Works that have been submitted for Justified fandom, which is AWESOME! I think we can do better though, so if you want to join, Sign-Up as a Creator before Feb 19th For those of you that don't know, you have from March 16 (Bid Proof due) to Dec 31 2024* to create the fanwork you have offered.

Announcing: Team Lift Fest 2024: A Charity Auction for Sports RPF Fandoms

What is Team Lift Fest?

Team Lift Fest is a charity auction for Sports RPF fandoms (any and all!) Inspired by @fandomtrumpshate, we’re here to utilize the energy, intensity, and competitiveness of Sports RPF fandoms to raise money for sports initiatives serving underrepresented and/or marginalized athletes.

How does Team Lift Fest work?

Creators and contributors sign up to create 1-2 digital fanworks for Sports RPF. Bidders then have 5 days to bid on the auctions. Once we confirm winning bids and contact winners, winners then donate money to one of our suggested charities, provide proof of their donation to the mods, then we’ll connect creators and bidders – and you’re off! Creators and contributors have approximately 8 months to create their work.

Announcing: the FTH Playbook!

Ever since our first year, FTH has actively encouraged people to run their own auctions, freely sharing our organizational materials as well as a brief guide to using them.

This year, we decided to get (very) serious about overhauling those materials. We've made a lot of back-end improvements over the years, and we wanted to share them with others who might be considering organizing their own events. Even more so, we wanted to offer the very best guidelines and explanations we could, based on our (at this point) several years' experience.

It's taken several months and a lot of effort, but we're proud to unveil it now: our step-by-step guide to organizing and and running your own benefit fanworks auction.

The catch: most of these creators are offering to create for other fandoms, too. We've got to make sure to win these auctions ourselves!

wait, what is Fandom Trumps Hate?

FTH is a fanworks auction that raises money for progressive nonprofits (here's this year's list.) The folks listed below are offering to make a fanwork for their highest bidder, but the money doesn't go to the creator themselves: the winning bidder donates directly to the nonprofit and sends in proof of donation to the auction, and then creator and bidder are put in touch to start planning out a fanwork. themysterybox (aka @frankandpercy) is offering to write a fic of 10-20K in length, up to an E rating. They're particularly excited to take on alternate universes, and are also interested in writing poly fic, genderswap, trans characters/interpretations of characters, f/f, and ambiguous or unhappy endings.

els (aka @midnight-els) is offering a fic of 5-10K words, up to an E rating. els is especially interested in f/f ships, queer interpretations of characters, and happy or open endings.

I like character studies and missing scenes, and I'm particularly interested in writing stories that capture the many different emotional layers of longstanding relationships.

I also have a fan labor offering: I will Yankpick or Russia-pick (or both!) a story of yours that is in process, and advise as best I can about everything from background culture to common turns of speech to local landmarks. I am also happy to do a more typical beta read in addition to/instead of language and culture-picking.

I haven't seen anyone in the bandom involved in this, even though I've seen my past fandom spaces jumped right in, I wanted to offer bandom fics for this charity event this year!
