sorry it cracks me up that WWX in the novel and donghua, in his original body, literally is so fit that he probably only fainted like once right after the Xuanwu cave arc + self proclaimed that he can continue to fight several battles after being gutted. meanwhile in The Untamed, boi went thru Xuanwu cave arc, fainted, got rescued, got home, got changed and presumably rested, and proceeds to faint AGAIN right in front of JFM and his peers like LMAO PLEASE THE INDIGNITY

𐙚 Ao3 Fics I’ve read and love 𐙚

𐙚 infidelity by @tawus (completed)
gojo x fem reader
Your marriage to Gojo Satoru lost its initial excitement, since your husband spent all his time either at Jujutsu Tech or on exorcism missions across the world. To ease your loneliness, you picked up your favorite pastime from your student years — clubbing — behind his back. Too bad that on Satoru’s most recent mission he spots his wife dancing in a nightclub with a bunch of guys in the skimpiest dress he has ever seen on her

You've never been a particularly good person, you're self-aware enough to know it. It's your only flaw, and recently you've actually been working to better yourself. For example: paying for a 30-dollar Uber so you can take your friend home only for her to ditch you for some guy when it comes down to it. Although you’re pissed, you decide to try and make the best of it instead of get into a screaming match with her. It's an easy thing to do when Getou Suguru is offering you everything to do just that. Everything a party entails: liquor, weed, and sex with a perfect stranger. And Getou knows perfectly well you have a boyfriend, so it's not like he'll want anything serious.

The Fushiguros needed a nanny, and the pay was too good to not apply, especially since your family needed financial help. You were the perfect nanny for the kids, they loved you as if you were their own mother. Slowly, you built up the perfect relationship with the family. Especially with Mr. Fushiguro. A man who would constantly visit you after dark. A man who you thought had sincere intentions but at the end of the day didn't care about you. A selfish man who just saw you as a tool to make his wife mad. A man who didn't care about you but didn't want you with anyone else. A man that took away your ability to know what a healthy relationship was. You couldn't speak up about it since all the fault would fall at your feet and would be deemed as the "homewrecker".

After having an affair with your boss, you're left to deal with the consequences, those being: two exhausting new jobs and a child. A child that he never got to know the existence of. Now all you had to do was keep her hidden, which should be an easy task, right?

Both men agreed to a game about who fucks you first, but they didn't play their cards right. Gojo and Geto changed the course of the game when they decided to keep you around for way longer than intended, making you fall for their sweet way to deprave you, and now you have to face the consequences in a gamble that they call their life.

Five years later, you meet again but nothing is quite the same. Too many things need to be explained, especially the fact that there's another Gojo that Satoru has yet to meet.

So what happens when you agree to help your ex one night? And what if you catch the attention of a certain white haired assassin? And he shows you just how colourful this world truly is. or, a story of a girl with a violent mind and a boy with violent tendencies, finding each other, intertwining, and feeding off one another. perhaps it is fate that has brought them together. or perhaps it's something more sinister, something more cold.

Ellie fisted the joystick into neutral and killed the engine. She cracked all 5 knuckles before reaching over to release your seatbelt. The belts cold buckle sprang across your breasts and over your shoulder, turning your nipples visibly hard and full in their wake. Ellie fought off the urge to glance down; to drink them in. She was semi-successful at managing away her inner teenage boy every time it chose to rear its ugly hungry head at inopportune moments.
  “So
” she started, her hand massaging the inner dough of your thighs, warmed by the hug of your crossed legs. “We just gettin’ your little sparkly earrings? Or are you gonna get distracted and spend more money than I make in a single paycheck?”
You ran your palms up the sleeves of Ellie’s brown military jacket. Fascinated by the texture of the rough fabric everytime one of its crinkles caught against your acrylic nails. You couldn’t fathom how Ellie walked around in clothes so rough and distressed, all of your outfits were soft cotton or silky satin. And here Ellie wore a deconstructed uniform jacket like it was meant for her body. You blinked away your distracted thoughts, and leaned into nose at her neck. Pressing nose and lips to the source of the most comforting scent in the world to you. Allspice, cigarette smoke, and 2-in-1 body wash. There was still a faint trace of her cologne, you wish she wore it, the traces of it made you go brainless for your butch.
“Earrings only.” Your sweet voice was muffled against her neck. She reached her other hand up to cup the back of your neck. The cold metal of her rings kissed your skin, but you leaned into it.
“I’ll wait for you right here, peach.”
“Okay.” You nodded obediently.
“Don’t spend too long in there, okay?”
“Okay.” You nodded once again.
“If anyone stares at you too long or makes you feel weird for being girly, call me and I’ll meet you wherever. Especially those judgemental ass grandmas.”
You looked up at her, her hair was in her eyes, casting a shadow that turned her gaze into a deep hunter green.
You leaned in slowly and kissed her lips. Ellie attempted to chase the kiss, until you slid your hand between the valley of her breasts and urged her to stay. Behave baby boy.
Ellie’s right eyebrow quirked up in response, impressed that you kept her in check. That you knew her so well that you could tell exactly where that kiss could’ve led to if you didn’t tell her to slow down.
“Be right back here in an hour.” Ellie was relishing in how your thumb rubbed across her chest. Your hand rested on her chest like you were her little damsel in distress, looking to her to save you. You made her feel like Clark Kent, and it made her want to puff her chest out.
“Hour-and-a-half, I wanna get ice cream.” You prattled.
  “An hour.”
  “Ellieeee” You whined.
“If you’re not back here by 2:30 pm, I’m stomping into Icing myself, throwing you over my shoulder and marching right back out.”
“Please as if you could hoist me up over your shoulder.” You leaned over to fish Ellie’s wallet from her back pocket.
Ellie side-eyed you intensely as she tracked the movement. She enclsaped your wrist in an iron grip once your acrylics brushed the back pocket of her jeans. Her thumb pressed down. You couldn’t move.
“You didn’t seem confused about my strength when I lifted you into that full nelson and pounded you in front of the mirror.” She dropped her blue steel face and started grinning like a fox. “Uhnnuhuh Ellie, m’gonna squirt. I’m gonna squirt on you daddy.” She mocked in a high-pitched overly feminine voice. She drew her eyebrows together to school up the appearance of someone deliriously aroused. One that mimicked your cock-drunk face all those days ago.
Ellie dropped the comedic expression for a moment, in favor of replacing it with the one she sported to intimidate customers who started testing her boundaries or her patience. The one that said ‘respect me.’
“Fuck you, asshole. I’m made of steel.” She spat.
You leaned up, and just planted a glossy kiss on her cheek. She blushed until she was cherry tomato red. She always blushed harder when you were affectionate to her, in the middle of her egotistical masculine delusions. Like a mom kissing her son's cheek, after he called himself Spider-Man.
Ellie would tease you for hours. But remind her again you were her adorable little girlfriend who she worshiped, then she’d be back to acting right again. Ready to hump the air just to get a whiff of your hair. Sweet and pliable. Ellie crossed her fingers subtly and hoped you got specks of glitter gloss on her cheek from that kiss. She wore your kisses like merchandise. Those and the smell of your pussy on her mouth and fingers. Some days, the smell was just smeared all over her face.
You blinked at her, slow and pouty in the way that got her real happy and pleased. “Now that you’re done poking and teasing me, can I go inside to get my sparkly earrings?”
Ellie slid her wallet into your palm, her lips parted at the way your acrylics snatched it. The way they sunk into the soft leather. Mmmm.
  “An hour.”
You climbed out of her beat up hatchback. The metal groaned as you slammed the door shut. “See you Els, if I get in trouble or get lost I’ll call you okay? I charged my phone this time. Bye-bye.”  You sing-songed just before walking away, out of the parking lot and towards the entrance of the mall.
You were the utter definition of hate to see you leave, but love to watch you go. Ellie drank in the very very obvious little characters of your ass. The jiggly flesh, dimpled skin, and the way they smacked each other with each step. The type of visual someone could only see if the person walking in front of them was naked. Which you practically were considering how your pink cotton leggings looked painted on. The silhouette was way too intimate with how well it showed the character of your ass. She could’ve forced you to change, but you two had such a good morning today.
Ellie didn’t want to—no—she hated picking fights with you. Ellie being mad at you? That was just another Tuesday. She had temperament issues, trauma, death of a loved one blah blah blah. But you being mad at Ellie? She’d kill herself. She shuddered in the car at the thought of it, and swallowed her jealousy. Everyone sees your little dimpled ass? Fine. She’s the only person that’s seen it twerking for her during backshots. And anyway, you’d get jealous if she wore gray sweatpants to work, so she kinda understood the sentiment. Especially because she packed everywhere, and the bulge was glaring.
Ellie wrapped her knuckles on the steering wheel. Trying to distract herself from the slow and lonely weight of the parking lot. Joy Division’s “disorder” played in her head. She considered pulling out a Marlboro to smoke, but thought against it. She remembered how you squealed whenever she kissed you with cigarette breath, telling her how it made your kisses taste so bitter.
Truth be told, she was just as clingy with you, as you were to her. You just initiated it more often. When someone follows her around like a little puppy trying to catch up to its much larger owner all day, it’s hard not to notice their missing presence.
Ellie played with her rings as the mounting anxiety gnawed at her tummy. She turned her wrist over to check her watch. Ten. Only ten minutes had gone by? Fucking christ.
She puffed out her cheeks. Yeah she was being ridiculous. Knowing you, you probably had only just arrived at the store, and that meant making a cute pikachu face at every new piece of merchandise they shipped into the shop floor that week. So it’d be a while before you were back. She could’ve gone in with you, but Ellie knew her presence there would’ve weirdly encouraged you to take a full day tour of the mall. She was your walking wallet apparently. But it’s worse when the wallet can actually give in.
It was better this way, you kept her card in hand, but Ellie wasn’t physically there to actually convince of anything. So you couldn’t use it to buy anything more than earrings. Plus, she couldn’t stand another trip to Victoria’s Secret. As much as she loved the way you modeled a show for her whenever you tried stuff on, and as much as the jokes she cracked with the other boyfriends waiting for their girlfriends to be done made for good conversation, Victoria’s Secret just served to make her feel incredibly out of place. Mostly due to its overtly sexual displays of femininity. Something she still struggled to place how she felt about. All Ellie knew was that she didn’t want it.
Matter of fact she had repelled femininity so much, it even reflected in her dating preferences. You were by far the most feminine girl Ellie had ever dated. That was a considerably large shift from the tomboys she typically had crushes on in highschool.
But she couldn’t help but be turned on by the way your acrylics stroked her bulge, by the way you blinked up at her with those dolly lashes like you needed her approval more than you needed oxygen, by the way she got both wet and enraged seeing men’s gazes linger on you as she walked behind you. Lingering in a way that they never did for any of her exes. It ignited a possessiveness in her she had convinced herself she didn’t have the ability to feel. Made her walk out the house with her shoulders drawn up to her ears, scowling. As if to say to all the men, ‘fuck off, get your own cocksleeve. This one’s claimed.’
You were the cutest cocksleeve too. The human embodiment of a little bow for her dick.
Just the thought prompted her to squeeze her bulge through her jeans, feeling phantom erections.
God it’d been how long now? Ellie checked her watch, reading the watch face to make sure she’d read that right. Twenty minutes? Only?
Her palms started perspiring, and she started grinding her teeth. It’s fine, it’s fine, it’s fine. She’ll be back any minute. Be cool, you freak.
Ellie reached to grab her phone, but the way the time flashed at the top bar of the screen made her stomach knot up anxiously. She chucked her phone into the passenger seat, and rolled down the window to get some fresh air. It felt beautiful for a moment, her rough short hair curling around the wind and blowing in her eyes. But then she felt like she couldn’t breathe again. Like her throat was squeezing in on itself. So Ellie unbuttoned the top button of her navy plaid button down. She yanked the collar away from her neck, and took deep breaths. Nice and deep slow breaths. The demonic little shadows and whispers of panic ebbed away, leaving only room for peace and the sunlight of the early afternoon. Ellie smiled, she’d be fine.
She played with her rings, recounting all the places and dates she’d thrifted them from. Then she started fidgeting with them as her leg bounced in the car, working off some of that returning nervous energy. The little shadows were starting to creep back in her mind again. Ellie white-knuckled the steering wheel. “No, no, no please. Not now, please not now.” She sucked in a deep breath as unshed tears lined her waterline. She flipped her wrist watch face up quickly, you’d been gone for thirty-five minutes by this point. And Ellie felt her skin run cold. thirty-five minutes left twenty-five minutes. Twenty-five more minutes for the ebb and flow of panic to infect her brain and trigger her adrenaline response. Twenty-five more minutes of letting her own mind attack itself. Ellie couldn’t stomach the thought. She started gasping as she fidgeted to remove the car keys from the ignition. The dark whispering shadow only urged her to look at one thought in her mind: Alone. You’re alone again, Ellie.
She nearly keeled over from the sheer nausea that thought brought about. Ellie tripped out of her car, slammed the door and stumbled towards the mall as her heartbeat thundered louder than her thoughts. And her thoughts were very loud. Her face felt tight and itchy, as she ran. And due to the combination of wind and glossy eyes, her vision warped until it became disfigured. Which only set off to make her blood run icier. Like she was being deprived of all her necessary  senses as she yanked the mall door open and stumbled around trying to wade her way through until she got to the side where women’s jewelry and clothing was huddled. Her vision was disjointed, Ellie felt as if she was looking through a fish-eye lens. It caused bile to rise in her throat. Ellie was spiraling, she knew it. And if she didn’t find you—fuck where were you?—it was only going to get uglier for her. She despised being reduced to ugly. She hated herself when she was ugly.
Snot mixed in with tears as she scaled the walls of the mall trying to use the brightness of pink and white signs to guide her to the right store. You promised you’d go to icing, you promised you’d go to icing, you promised you’d go to icing. She hummed the mantra in corners of her brain.
She gurgled “better fucking be at Icing otherwise I’m gonna kill he—my heart christ—fuck fuck fuck baby please be at icing.” The palpitations rolled in, causing her heart to beat erratically. Two beats instead of one, a skipped beat, or an extra hard beat. Every bastardized combination instead of the reliable, glub-glub of a healthy heart. Ellie gripped her own shirt, and tried to feel any lingering warmth from your hand when you placed it there nearly an hour ago. Her breaths were coming out ragged, and she was still blind with a disjointed vision no matter how much she rubbed her jacket across her eyes to soak up tears. Ellie stumbled until she saw a store with the familiar lettering, and she yanked and tugged at her shirt to ground herself as she made her way to the checkout lane. “Hi.” Her voice came out so small and strained. She hated herself for it.
“Have you seen a girl, she’s—seems about yay-high and she’s wearing pink leggings and a tight pink top. Oh—she’s pretty—long nails. My girlfriend, do you know where my girlfriend is?” Ellie choked, her sanity was slipping. Her bloodshot eyes were crazed as she stared down at the cashier like the woman held the answer to curing Ellie’s mental suffering.
“N-no. Sorry I didn’t see a girl with pink leggings.”
“No?” Ellie’s voice grew fainter, weaker. She sobbed “are you sure?” but her voice crackled with that sentence, and the cashier just stared at her with a puzzled expression, unsure of what to say to diffuse the situation.
Ellie stumbled out of the store, flinching at the expressions of customers who were looking around the store to see if they were the only one witnessing the girl's mounting panic attack. She ran to an empty hallway in the mall. The one where they kept those gumball machines that hadn’t been replaced since 1998. She fell to her knees and curled in on herself. Her nails scratched her scalp until it broke skin, trying to draw out the thoughts of being alone, being alone, being alone, being, alone, being alone, being alone, being alone, being alone, out of her head.
Ellie tugged at her hair now, using the self-inflicted pain to distract from that hungry giggling fear, the one that wrapped itself around her eyes and throat and told her to describe what she saw: loneliness. Pitch black, devoid of warmth, pure unadulterated isolation.
She needed you, needed you so bad as she cried to herself on her knees. She should’ve never let you go alone, she should’ve never let you walk away from her, she should’ve never let you have an hour to leave her, she should’ve never let you take her wallet and not take her, she should’ve never ever ever ever ignored the signs, the raised hairs and the feeling of dread that pooled in her stomach the past week. Just waiting to be triggered by something insignificant. Now it was triggered, and in an incredibly public place too. Ellie beat her chest, coughing just to bring herself down from the dissociative hell her mind was flinching in. “Baby where are you? I’m hurting
it’s hurting me again. Pleasepleasepleaseplease, peach.”
Nails bluntly tickled her nape, sending a shiver down her spine just as the smell of sweet jasmine and vanilla perfume engulfed her. Ellie broke from her kneeling fetal position to draw you into her lap. She didn’t even need to look at you, she knew you like the back of her hand. Ellie knew the feeling of those acrylic nails because of how deeply they’d scratched down her back in bed. She knew the smell of your perfume from how often she’d buried her face into your waiting body after work for comfort. Her grip was painful, likely breaking capillaries from its tightness. She mewled for you like a kitten finding its mother. “Babygirl.”
“Ellie—Ellie I’m sorry did I take too long? I set an alarm, I don’t think it went off, I’m sorry Ellie I didn’t mean too I promise.” Ellie let out a wet laugh from where her face was crooned in your neck. She just shook her head. It absolutely was not your fault. But God weren’t you just the cutest fucking thing in the world for thinking you’d made another little mistake? How sweet, that even in the face of Ellie’s utter mental crack and breakdown, you found a way to give your baby the benefit of the doubt. Ellie dragged her face up your neck, inhaling deeply as her nose traced a path up your throat. The scent alone was like Xanax to the nerves, drowning her in a sea of serenity. Letting the anxiety ebb away until it was no more than a dull twinge, the whispers reduced to muted hums. You were her light. Ellie’s grip on you tightened, her medicine.
She pulled her face away, and she could only imagine how distressed she must’ve looked by the way your eyebrows drew up, and by the way your pretty little lips formed a worried pout. Ellie gnawed on her bottom lip. There was nothing to fear, you would understand.
“You didn’t take too long princess, I just had a panic attack.”
Your hands flew to cup Ellie’s reddened blotchy cheeks, massaging her face cutely as her eyelashes fluttered. God, you were a balm. “I should’ve seen it coming, I’ve been feeling so out of it the past week. But then this morning was so fun. We made fluffy pancakes, you sat on my lap and listened to my dumb work drama, helped me trim my bangs, then...” Ellie blew air into her cheeks and looked up. This was going to be hard to say. Felt like a lump stuck in her throat. “Then we got ready and the kiss we had before we got in the car made everything melt away. This morning was so good baby, so good. I tried to ignore it, thinking my brain just wanted to be a little asshole and spook me for no reason. But no—I should’ve known—it doesn’t play tricks, it only gives warnings.”
Ellie leaned into your palms, she kissed them gently. “Can we go home baby?.” She held your gaze through wet eyelashes. You nodded “Mhm. I’m sorry Els I’m so sorry. I’m so sorry, I’m sorry, I missed you.” You were disappointed because you didn’t intuitively know the right words to say, and how to say them. Didn’t know how to articulate that you understood her pain but she also shouldn’t beat herself up. Everything you thought of sounded cliche, you weren’t smarter than her, you weren’t able to come up with reassuring words the way other people could. Not like her uncle Tommy or Maria, or anyone. All you could do was cover her in kisses, tell her you loved her, that next time you’d never ever be separated from her, and cradle her head against your chest.
Ellie rose to her feet, pulling you up with her by your elbows. The kiss that followed was for comfort, for reassurance. For the feeling of squeezing her human emotional support plushie.
Ellie pulled away first, leaving you wanting more. She tasted so good, smelled so good. Made you want to pur and stroke her through her jeans. But it wasn’t the time nor place. Not after recent events.
“Did you get your earrings at least?”
“Yeah, I got a pair for you too!” You shared excitedly.
Ellie was still shaken up, but for now she could break out a small grin. “You got earrings for me?”
  “Yes, same color too!”
“Baby, my ears aren’t even pierced...”
“Oh.” Ellie loved that, your characteristic little ‘oh’.
“I knew that. I just got them for when—for when you decided to pierce them, yeah.”
Ellie was hot in your heels as you two made your way out of the mall “Is that right?”
“Mhm.” You refused to meet her eyes.
“Oh yeah? K, then. Thank you so much for getting me a gift using my credit card.”
“You’re very welcome, I love when we match as a couple. Els when we got home, did you want my chicken noodle? Cause it’ll make you feel better.”
Ellie sucked in a breath. Cuteness aggression was real, and she was feeling it so hard right then. Right after her emotions had already been frayed by her anxiety. She knew, if it wasn’t for the way the panic attack had left her feeling utterly exhausted, bone tired like a wet blanket, ready to drop at a moment's notice to recuperate, that she would’ve done something that would’ve pulled a squeal out of you in the car. And she had the package to do so.
“Sure, I’ll eat your damn noodle soup.” She chuckled tiredly.
You put both palms on her chest and leaned in to kiss her, stealing back some of the desire that was ripped away too soon in the mall.
“You’ll feel better in no time.”
Ellie gave you a once-over. Over eager, as usual.
“Somehow I don’t doubt that.”
You littered her face in kisses all the way home, like you always did. Like you thought each press of your lips to her freckled face was going to cure her of her anguish. And believe Ellie, every press of your puffy lips to her cheeks, tip of her nose and forehead did more for her state of mind than two hours of trauma therapy a week did. Or at least that’s what she’d like to believe. Fuck the noddle soup, it’s you. You’re what’s going to make her feel better. As long as you’re there, everyday for her to come home to. All she needed was her pretty princess, her little babydoll, her little bimbo.

『Featuring Babytrapping with the Hitman Team』
——;——;————;———-
Cw: 🔞NSFW MDNI! Fem reader! Baby trapping,
——;——;————;———-
Would Babytrap you intentionally
——;——;————;———-
Bjorn the Strategist: As the strategist of the team it’d only be fitting for him to intentionally plan. On knocking you up to make sure you’ll forever be inclined to stay with him. But only after doing some intensive research about child rearing and pregnancy. So he’s able to provide you with everything you may need and ensure that both you and his child are safe and sound.
Yujin the hacker: he’d be upfront with you on his plans of knocking you up. With a childish grin on his face, the hacker will straight up tell you that he’s going to get you pregnant. So that he can finally get a tasteful of your breast milk. His openness would dupe you into thinking he was joking since Yujin’s always been a prankster at times. So really you can’t blame him if he did exceed in doing exactly as he told. since he made sure to give you a prior notice ahead of time.
——;——;————;———-
Would Babytrap you unintentionally
——;——;————;———-
Ossian the sniper: don’t get me wrong he loves you dearly. So much in fact that in his sleep. He’ll go as far as to make sure you feel how deep his love for you goes until you’re filled up like a cream puff. The funny part is that when you’re holding up a positive pregnancy test in Ossian’s face he’d think he was dreaming. And would promptly wish aloud that he’d never wake up. Since the dream of having a family with you would make him feel as if he’s floating on cloud nine.
Vincent the Enforcer: would be so wrapped up in how good you felt going in raw. That he’d completely forget to pull out, and would mutter apologies underneath his breath. Whilst continuing to bust his thick spurts of jizz inside your squelching cunt. Saying how he can’t help himself and promising with butterfly kisses. Against your neck that he’d be a good daddy and take care of both you and the baby.
Danny the boss: this otaku cannot cope with how turned on you make him feel on a daily basis. He’d be so desperate to have more of you, to get balls deep inside. That place he calls heaven in between those thighs of yours. To the point of where his fat tip would break through the condom and make him nut prematurely inside you. From instantly being exposed to your depths. After Seeing the positive pregnancy test, Danny would faint like a damsel in distress. Due to an extensive nosebleed at the mere vision he had of you having baby bump. His baby bump
——;——;————;———-
Wouldn’t try to Baby trap you.
——;——;————;———-
Moros the Torturer: would never try to baby trap his sunshine. He’d want to make sure of having kids is what you’d so desire. So if you want kids you’ll have to reassure Moros constantly that you’d want to have a family with him. Since he’d hate to do anything that would cause you any kind of harm or discomfort. He knows that pregnancy can affect you long term and is well versed in the risks. So he’d never put your wellbeing in jeopardy despite how he truly yearns for a big family.
Koji the medic: is meticulous when it comes to sex, he’ll make sure that no happy accidents. will happen under his watch since he doesn’t particularly like to idea of having kids. Nor does he plan to entertain the idea of losing his dearest nurse to birthing a parasite. If push comes to shove he’ll definitely choose to toss the whole kid away than to ever risk lose his darling.

CONTENTS:・teeth rotting fluff-heavy plot (imo) ・star!reader ・mild language ・sleeping in the same bed・artist!chris ・substance use + more (part two here) WC: 2.3k masterlist: here
i highly highly recommend listening to this on repeat, as that’s what i did :,) promise it sets the mood. + heavily dedicated to my literal star @55sturn
The roof of Chris’s trailer creaked as Star stretched out on the patchy blanket, her black hoodie blending into the night sky above. The air was cool, almost cold, but not quite enough to send her shivering. Pine View was never silent, even at night—the hum of cicadas buzzed low in the background, broken occasionally by a bark or the far-off growl of an engine.
Chris sat beside her, leaning back on one elbow, a joint hanging loosely from his fingers. His face was calm, unreadable as always, except for the faint furrow in his brow. Smoke curled lazily in the air between them, dissipating into the starry sky.
“I’m telling you,” Star said, voice animated as her finger traced a constellation, “if aliens exist, there’s no way they’re not watching us right now. We’re like, prime reality TV for them. Chaos, drama, stupidity—it’s got everything.”
Chris exhaled a slow stream of smoke, not bothering to look up. “Pretty sure aliens have better taste than watching us fail at life.” His tone was dry, the corner of his mouth twitching like he wanted to smile but wouldn’t let himself.
Star glanced over at him, her lips twitching into a smirk. “You’re such an optimist, Chris.”
“Realist,” he corrected, passing the joint to her without looking. His eyes were fixed somewhere on the horizon, but she could feel him listening in that quiet way he always did.
She took a drag, coughing slightly before handing it back. “Still. If they’re watching us, I bet they’re rooting for us, y’know? Like
even when life’s a mess, people find these little moments of peace. Kinda like this.”
Chris finally glanced at her, the faintest flicker of something soft in his sharp features. The way her nose crinkled when she tried to suppress her laugh; the way her eyes lit up, reflecting the stars she couldn’t stop rambling about—it was
annoying, maybe, how effortlessly she made the night feel less heavy. But not in a bad way.
“Maybe,” he muttered, almost to himself, before looking away again.
They lapsed into silence for a while, the kind that felt comfortable after months of stolen nights like this. Star broke it first, as she always did.
“You’re extra quiet tonight,” she said, nudging his shoulder. “What’s on your mind? Or are you just too high to function?”
Chris rolled his eyes, taking another drag. “Maybe I like the quiet, Kid. You ever think about that?”
“Nope,” she replied easily, grinning. “You’d be miserable without me, admit it.”
“Sure,” he said, deadpan, though the corners of his mouth twitched again.
Eventually, Star sat up, wobbling slightly as she eyed the trellis below. “Alright, we should head down before I fall asleep up here. You’re terrible at carrying people, and I refuse to be a headline in the Pine View Gazette: Local Emo Girl Plummets to Death Off Trailer Roof.”
Chris snorted. “They’d probably get your name wrong, too.”
Star nudged him with her elbow. “Go first. You’re the guy. Don’t guys like
live for this macho stuff? Protecting damsels in distress n’all that?”
Chris rolled his eyes. “You’re about as distressed as a cat on catnip.”
He swung his legs over the edge of the roof, gripping the trellis. It creaked under his weight, but he made it down smoothly, dusting his hands on his jeans when he reached the ground.
“See?” he called up. “s’fine. Just don’t be an idiot about it.”
Star pulled a face. “Thanks for the vote of confidence, Captain Supportive.”
As she carefully climbed down, the trellis groaned ominously. Her foot slipped on a loose slat, and the sound of wood snapping was followed by a startled yelp.
“Chris!”
She fell backward, and he scrambled to catch her. The impact sent them both crashing to the ground in a tangle of limbs.
Star landed on top of him, groaning as she tried to sit up. “Oh my god, I told you this thing was a death trap! Are you okay? Did I—”
“Shut up,” Chris said, breathless, but there was no heat in his words.
He stared up at her, his eyes locked on hers, and for a moment, the world seemed to still. The joint haze lingered in the air, making every detail sharper—the warmth of her body against his, the way her breath hitched slightly, the glint of stars in her wide eyes.
Her voice softened. “Chris
”
He didn’t move, didn’t speak, his gaze flicking briefly to her lips. It was as if gravity itself was pulling them closer, and she swayed slightly, her hands braced against his chest.
And then—
“Chris?”
Lila’s small, groggy voice shattered the moment. They froze, heads snapping toward the trailer’s back door, where Lila stood in her pajamas, rubbing her eyes.
Star scrambled to her feet, her cheeks burning. Chris sat up slowly, running a hand through his hair as he muttered, “What are you doing up, Lila?”
“I had a bad dream,” she mumbled, sniffling.
Chris sighed, climbing to his feet and brushing off the dirt. “Alright, c’mon,” he said, jerking his head toward the trailer. “Let’s get you back to bed.”
Star stood awkwardly to the side, still flustered, as Chris led Lila inside. When he came back out a few minutes later, his face was unreadable again, the moment between them seemingly forgotten.
“You coming?” he asked, nodding toward the trailer.
“Yeah,” she said quickly, following him in.
They collapsed onto the couch with a spread of leftover snacks, bingeing Rick and Morty in comfortable silence. But every so often, Star caught Chris sneaking glances at her, his expression softening just slightly before he turned back to the screen.
Star popped a fry into her mouth, her legs curled beneath her on the couch. The glow from the TV flickered across her face as the absurd antics of Rick and Morty filled the small living room. She stole a glance at Chris, who sat slouched next to her, picking at the crust of a slice of leftover pizza.
She couldn’t stop thinking about the moment on the ground—the way his eyes had locked with hers, the way her heart had flipped in her chest. It was ridiculous, really. Chris was
Chris. Gruff, blunt, emotionally unavailable Chris. And yet, her cheeks still felt warm when she thought about how close they’d been.
“You’re staring,” Chris said without looking up. His tone was as dry as ever, but the faintest smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.
Star jerked her gaze back to the TV, stuffing another fry into her mouth. “I’m not staring. Don’t flatter yourself.”
“Right,” he drawled, finally glancing over at her. “Because you’re the picture of subtlety.”
“Like you’re one to talk,” she shot back, turning to face him fully now. “You’ve been sneaking looks at me all night. What, do I have something on my face?”
Chris raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable as he leaned back against the couch. “Maybe. Or maybe you’re just paranoid.”
She narrowed her eyes, trying to gauge if he was messing with her. “You’re so annoying, you know that?”
“And yet, here you are,” he replied smoothly, grabbing the remote and flipping to the next episode.
Star crossed her arms, leaning back with a huff. “I could’ve stayed home.”
Chris turned to her, the ghost of a smirk still lingering. “You wouldn’t have. You like it here too much.”
Her mouth opened to argue, but no words came out. Because he wasn’t wrong. For all his snark and the peeling wallpaper of his trailer, Chris’s place felt
 safe.
“Whatever,” she muttered, grabbing a handful of fries.
They watched the episode in silence for a while, the tension between them softening into something almost comfortable again. But as the credits rolled, Chris spoke, his voice quieter than usual.
“What
what was that earlier,” he said, not looking at her.
Star stiffened, glancing at him out of the corner of her eye. “What was what earlier?”
His jaw shifted, like he was debating whether to say it. Finally, he turned his head to meet her gaze, his expression unreadable. “You almost kissed me.”
Her face burned. “I—what? No, I didn’t!”
Chris arched an eyebrow, leaning slightly closer. “You sure about that?”
The air between them grew heavier, the space on the couch suddenly feeling much too small. Star swallowed hard, her pulse quickening as she held his gaze.
“Well, if I did,” she said, trying to sound casual, “you almost
did it back.”
He didn’t deny it. Instead, his eyes flicked down to her lips, just for a second, before meeting hers again.
For a moment, it felt like they were back on the ground outside, the rest of the world fading away as gravity pulled them closer.
But then, from the hallway, Lila’s small voice rang out again.
“Chris? Can I have water?”
Chris sighed, breaking eye contact as he stood up. “Yeah, I got it,” he called, his tone softer than usual.
Star exhaled, her shoulders slumping as the tension dissolved into the air. She stared at the TV, her fries forgotten, as Chris disappeared into the kitchen to help his sister.
When he came back, he sat down beside her without a word, grabbing another slice of pizza.
“Chris,” she said after a long pause, her voice quieter now.
He glanced at her, chewing lazily. “Yeah?”
She hesitated, her fingers twisting in the hem of her hoodie. “Never mind.”
Chris studied her for a moment, his expression unreadable. Then he leaned back, grabbing the remote again. “You’re weird,” he muttered, though there was no edge to his voice.
Star rolled her eyes, pulling her knees to her chest as the next episode started. But despite the casual banter, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something between them had shifted.
Neither of them said anything more about it, but as the night stretched on, Chris stayed just a little closer to her on the couch, his shoulder brushing hers every now and then.
The glow of the TV flickered softly across the living room, the chaos of Rick and Morty still playing, though Star hadn’t laughed in a while. Chris glanced over, noticing her head drooping slightly, her knees pulled to her chest. Her eyelids fluttered shut, the stubbornness that usually lit up her expression now replaced by something softer, more unguarded.
“Star,” Chris muttered, nudging her leg with his foot.
She mumbled something incoherent, barely stirring.
He sighed, dragging a hand through his hair. The night had already been a whirlwind—her almost falling off the roof, the tension of their moment on the ground, and now this. Yet here she was, passed out on his couch like it was her own home.
Chris stood, stretching before leaning down to scoop up the half-empty plate of fries on her lap. He set it on the coffee table, shaking his head. “You really can’t hang, can you?” he muttered under his breath, though his voice lacked any real bite.
Star whimpered lightly but didn’t wake. Chris hesitated, his hands twitching at his sides as he debated whether to just leave her there. But something about the thought of her waking up in an uncomfortable position, complaining about her back for the next week, pushed him to act.
He bent down, sliding an arm under her legs and another behind her back. She stirred slightly as he lifted her, her body instinctively curling into his chest. Her head lolled against him, nestling into the crook of his shoulder, and Chris froze mid-step.
Her soft breath tickled his neck as she adjusted again, snuggling closer, completely unaware of what she was doing. His heart stuttered in a way he wasn’t used to, an unfamiliar warmth blooming low in his stomach.
“Damn it, Kid,” he muttered under his breath, though there was no malice in his tone.
She mumbled something incoherent again, her arm curling loosely against his chest like she belonged there. It was so unlike her usual sharp edges, her endless teasing and snarky comments. Like this, she was
soft. Vulnerable. The part of her she didn’t let the world see.
Chris carried her down the narrow hallway to his room, his movements careful and deliberate, as if afraid to wake her. The soft creak of his bedroom door greeted him as he nudged it open with his foot. Moonlight spilled in through the window, casting a faint glow over the small, familiar space.
As he lowered her onto the bed, she stirred, her head shifting slightly. For a brief moment, he thought she’d wake, but she just sighed, curling into herself instinctively.
Chris lingered, crouched beside the bed, watching the way her face relaxed, her lips slightly parted as she fell deeper into sleep. The faintest furrow creased his brow as he studied her, caught between the familiarity of her presence and the strange, twisting feelings in his chest.
She shifted again, burrowing deeper into the blankets as her arm stretched out toward the space where he usually slept. He swallowed hard, rubbing the back of his neck as he stared at the pillow he always placed between them. The unspoken rule—his own attempt to avoid another awkward morning of waking up to find her tangled around him.
But now, as he watched her, those feelings from earlier returned—the strange pull, the warmth that made him feel more unsettled than he wanted to admit.
Chris dropped the pillow.
He stood there for another moment, his gaze lingering on her soft features before he climbed into the bed beside her. He stayed on his side at first, stiff and unsure, leaning back against the headboard.
But when her arm instinctively draped across his stomach and her head found his shoulder again, he didn’t pull away.
For a while, he just lays there, staring up at the ceiling, her even breaths filling the quiet space around them. The barrier was gone, and something in him—something unspoken—decided it didn’t need to come back.

Bad communication (Nightcrawler X FemReader)
Tumblr media
Everything had gone well on the mission until Kurt's delicate landing in the Blackbird set fire to one of the abandoned barns near the mansion.
Hank was going to kill them.
Someone take away Kurt's permission to pilot ships please.
They were both trying to catch their breath. A couple of seconds more and both of them could have been trapped in the fire, but thanks to Kurt they managed to get out.
"First and last time I leave you behind the wheel Fuzzball" Y/N was leaning against the tree trying to gain posture.
"Look on the bright side, the mission was a success." Kurt's accent sounded thicker due to the lack of air. Y/N was going to say something but a crash interrupted her. The structure of the barn ended up collapsing on the remains of the Blackbird causing a loud noise.
"Let's blame Scott. He always destroys those things"
Kurt just nodded.
Y/N stood up and looked in the direction of the mansion, they were a little far away and they had no other means of transportation than walking, yes, Kurt could teleport them but the boy was exhausted so they had no choice but to walk back to home.
"Well... let's go, Azulito, there's still a long way to go" Y/N began to go down the hill, determined to get home as quickly as possible, Kurt followed closely behind her.
"What did you say? 'Azulito?' Well, my dear Y/N, how kind of you to give me a new nickname!" He smiled, appreciating the affectionate gesture.
"You needed a new nickname, and it suits you perfectly." She just shrugged her shoulders.
Kurt's heart skipped a beat at Y/N's compliment, a warm blush spreading across his cheeks. "Azulito
" he repeated, savoring the sound of his new nickname. "I must admit, it does have a rather charming ring to it." He shot Y/N a gracious smile.
"Thank you, my dear, for bestowing such a delightful moniker upon me. I shall treasure it like a precious gem."
"The pleasure is mine," Y/N responded mockingly, imitating an English accent followed by a small bow straight out of a Jane Austen movie.
Kurt couldn't help but smile at Y/N's attempt at a charming English accent. He laughed softly, completely amused.
"Ah, Y/N, you really have a talent for mimicry!" he exclaimed, playfully feigning fainting. "Your attempts at a stately English accent are quite endearing. Are you preparing to play the role of the damsel in distress, perhaps?"
"I'm not a damsel in distress Kurt, that position is yours. I always end up saving you." She winked at him.
Kurt couldn't help but burst into laughter at Y/N's spirited banter. He feigned a wounded look, placing a hand over his heart.
"Ah, Y/N, your words wound me! To be accused of being the damsel in distress, when I am clearly the suave and debonair hero of our adventures," he protested theatrically.
"I'll have you know, my dear, that I have saved your fair self more times than I can count." He smirked playfully, a glimmer of mischief in his eyes.
She squeezed his cheek lovingly "Of course you're a hero, you're my favorite hero Krut."
A soft chuckle escaped Kurt's lips, his cheeks flushed with warmth from Y/N's affectionate gesture. He leaned a bit closer, his eyes twinkling.
"And you're my favorite damsel, Y/-darling," he replied, emphasizing the newfound nickname with a charming smile. He gently reached out to tuck a lock of hair behind Y/N's ear, his touch tender and reverent. "Your beauty and bravery make me feel like the luckiest hero in all the realms."
Kurt's words made Y/N feel something strange in her heart, she felt a warmth inside her.
She always knew what to say and now it seemed like her brain had short-circuited, she couldn't answer anything and just babbled.
Kurt watched her reaction with a mixture of amusement and affection. He could tell her words had affected her deeply, and he couldn't resist teasing her further. Closing the remaining gap between them, he gently cupped Y/N's chin, his thumb gently tracing her jawline.
"Have I rendered you speechless, my lovely damsel?" he whispered teasingly, his voice dripping with warmth. "I must admit, I rather like this flustered state you've found yourself in. It's quite endearing."
How frustrating it was! She couldn't speak and now Kurt was making fun of her! That little blue goblin was going to pay for it! Without thinking, he grabbed Kurt's tail and gave it a little tug, enough to take him without warning but without hurting him.
Kurt's eyes widened with surprise as Y/N seized his tail and gave it a sudden tug. He let out a sharp squeak, caught off guard by his quick move. His expression shifted from astonishment to playful indignation, a hint of a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. He intended to stumble, clutching at his heart as if wounded.
"Alas, a treacherous trick!" he dramatically declared, his voice laced with mock despair. "My tail has been betrayed by its own damsel in distress!"
"That happens when you make fun of me." She crossed her arms over her chest, feigning indignation while sticking out her tongue.
Kurt couldn't help but burst into laughter at Y/N's feigned indignation. He held his tail protectively, pretending to pout.
"Ah, you've wounded me, my fiery friend. Not only my tail, but my heart too!" He feigned a heartbroken expression, pressing a hand to his chest. "But I must admit, the sound of your laughter and the sight of your adorable teasing make me forgive you easily."
Y/N understood, she liked Kurt but she was too cowardly to do or say anything. So she was only content with their friendship, if that was the only way to have him close to her and to have a space in Kurt's heart.
She loved spending time with him, no matter if it meant getting into trouble or making jokes. She wasn't a fan of making jokes but Kurt loved them and she loved Kurt.
Kurt picked up on Y/N's internal conflict, sensing her unspoken emotions. He understood her feelings all too well, for he harbored a deep affection for her too. Yet, like her, he also hesitated to express his true feelings. He had his own reasons for keeping his emotions in check, fearing that revealing them might jeopardize their dear friendship.
Kurt loved the time they spent together, treasured their laughter and shared adventures. But he also yearned for more, to open his heart and voice the profound feelings that resided within. Yet he, too, was held back by a certain cowardice.
The rest of the way was silent and somewhat tortuous. Y/N wanted to hit her head, she ruined the conversation in just a second and now she didn't know how to continue the conversation, for a moment the floor looked more interesting.
Kurt's lighthearted teasing and laughter faded as he picked up on Y/N's internal turmoil. The silence that settled between them grew increasingly uncomfortable, the weight of unspoken emotions hanging heavily in the air. He glanced at Y/N, noting her distant gaze fixed on the ground.
Curiosity and concern compelled him to break the silence. "Y/N," he began softly, his voice tender and caring. "Is everything alright?"
"Eh?" She looked very distracted. "Yeah, sure, everything's fine." She gave him a small smile. "I'm just a little tired, I guess burning barns by accident is more tiring than it looks."
Kurt's concern deepened as she dismissed her feelings with a small smile. He noticed the tiredness in her eyes and the forced cheerfulness in her voice. He gently placed a hand on her shoulder, his voice soft and soothing.
"You don't look alright, my dear friend. Something seems to be troubling you." He leaned in a bit closer, his eyes filled with genuine warmth. "If there's anything you'd like to talk about, I'm here to listen. I hope you know that you can confide in me."
'Dear friend'. God how she hated that word, she didn't want to be his friend, she wanted to just be his darling! Is it too much to ask!
"Thanks Kurt, but I'm just tired" No Kurt! I'm not okay at all! But she decided to bite the inside of her cheek and continue on her way.
Kurt's eyes softened as he caught the subtle longing in Y/N's eyes, a hint of her true feelings beneath her guarded exterior. He wanted to reassure her, to tell her that she was more than just a friend to him. Yet, the words died on his lips, replaced by a warm smile.
"Alright" he finally replied, his voice tinged with a hint of unspoken affection. "If you ever feel like sharing, know that my ears and heart are always yours."
She truly wished that his heart was only for her, but it seemed like a cruel joke and Kurt didn't even notice it; those words caused her pain rather than encouraging her.
"It's not that big of a deal Kurt, that smoke is already taking effect" She laughed "Maybe a bath will take away the discomfort" she tried to calm him down and evade the situation.
As soon as they arrived at the mansion, Y/N said goodbye to Kurt and practically ran to her room without letting Kurt speak.
Kurt watched her run off to her room, his heart heavy with the unspoken words that lingered between them. He longed to tell her the truth, to reveal the depth of his affection, but as always, he hesitated. Instead, he simply nodded and watched her go.
"See you later," he murmured softly, his voice tinged with a hint of sadness and longing. With a deep sigh, he turned and made his way back to his own room.
On the way to his room Kurt ran into Rogue.
"Wow Fuzzball, what happened to you, why the sad face?"
Kurt turned his head to see Rogue approaching him with a concerned expression. He masked his disappointment and sadness with a small smile, feigning a cheerful tone.
"Oh, Rogue" he greeted her, his voice laced with a hint of forced optimism. "Sad face? Ah, it's nothing. Just tired after a long day of
hero duties." He shrugged nonchalantly, not wanting to burden her with his emotional turmoil.
"Hero duties? What are you talking about?" Rogue approached her brother "I know you very well Kurt Wagner, I know something is not right with you, come on! You know you can tell your sister anything"
Kurt's smile wavered, his facade cracking as Rogue's concern grew. He let out a weary sigh, realizing that his attempt to deceive her had failed.
"Ah, Rogue," he finally conceded. "You know me too well, sister. I
I am burdened with emotions I can't quite understand. Longing, frustration, and a deep ache in my heart. And yet, I fear to voice these feelings, for they may change everything."
Rogue invited Kurt to sit next to her. "Looks like this is going to take some time. Luckily I have all the time in the world for you, Sugar. Come on, tell me what's bothering you."
Kurt complied, taking a seat next to Rogue. He took a deep breath, releasing a weary sigh.
"It's Y/N," he confessed softly. "I find myself deeply in love with her. The warmth of her laughter, the brightness of her smile, it all fills my heart with a longing I cannot deny." He paused, a flicker of fear crossing his features. "But I hesitate to reveal my feelings, fearing the potential consequences on our friendship."
Rogue couldn't hide her happiness and jumped off the couch "Y/N! You like her!? I knew it!"
Kurt's eyes widened in surprise, a mixture of amusement and unease at Rogue's enthusiastic reaction.
"Ah, sister, please control yourself!" He tried to feign a stern tone, though a soft laugh escaped his lips. "But yes, I find myself enamored with Y/N's charm, her kindness, her everything. However, admitting these feelings feels both exciting and terrifying."
His sister approached and took him by the shoulders, practically moving him almost like a rag doll. "She has to know, brother, why haven't you told her?"
Kurt allowed himself to be moved around by his sister, a sheepish smile on his face.
"Well
" he began, his voice soft and pensive. "I've been hesitant, unsure of how she might react. I cherish our friendship above all, and I fear that expressing my feelings might disrupt the delicate balance between us. The thought of jeopardizing what we have is
 daunting."
"Are you kidding?! Kurt, she loves you!" Rogue was definitely into this "Everyone knows, she's dying for you!
"That's true," Gambit's voice sounded from the hallway. "Come on man, you have to tell her."
Kurt couldn't help but chuckle at Gambit's interjection, though his eyes widened at Rogue's revelation.
"Everyone knows?" he echoed softly, a flicker of hope mingling with disbelief. "Could it be that Y/N returns my affection? The idea makes my heart swell."
He took a deep breath, his gaze lingering on Gambit's knowing expression. "Perhaps you two are right. I must find the courage to express my feelings to Y/N. But
" A hint of hesitation clouded his eyes.
"No buts" Gambit approached Kurt putting his arm over his shoulder "If you want to have the lady you will have to overcome your fear, do you want her to end up in someone else's arms?"
Kurt's expression darkened at the thought of Y/N being with someone else. A surge of possessive protectiveness welled within him.
"No, I do not," he replied firmly. "I cannot bear the thought of her being with another. I must find the courage to tell her how I feel."
He straightened his shoulders, a newfound determination in his eyes.
His brother-in-law gave him a few small pats on the chest. "Well said, now go get her tiger."
"Do you know where she is now Kurt?" Rogue's voice stopped them "You'll need a plan"
Kurt pondered Rogue's question for a moment. "I believe Y/N went to wash up in her room. She seemed tired and overwhelmed, but I couldn't quite discern the cause of her affliction." He scratched his chin thoughtfully. "Perhaps I should take some time to prepare, gather my thoughts and emotions, before I confront her. After all, I want every word to be perfect when I finally confess my feelings to her."
"We'll help you," Gambit offered. "You'll learn from the best teacher."
Rogue punched him in the stomach jokingly.
"I don't think you're the best one for that Sugar, why don't you let me talk to Y/N? We're friends, I can get information about you Kurt"
Kurt grinned at the playful exchange between Gambit and Rogue, appreciating their willingness to help. "Ah, my dear sister, your support means the world to me," he thanked them with a chuckle. "Gambit, while I appreciate the offer to learn from the 'best teacher', I believe that Rogue is the perfect person to gather information about Y/N. Your friendship with her will make it easier, and your understanding of women's hearts is unparalleled."
"Leave it to me, is there anything I should ask specifically?"
Kurt considered the question for a moment, his expression warm.
"First and foremost, find out whether Y/N harbors affections for me. Then, if she does indeed reciprocate my feelings, I want to know how deeply this affection runs, if she would consider a romantic relationship with me." He took a steadying breath, adding with a hopeful gleam in his eyes, "And if she does love me, inquire about her favorite flowers and romantic gestures. I wish to make my declaration of love truly unforgettable."
"Noted" Rogue got up from the chair as she walked out into the hallway "I'm going to go see Y/N, in the meantime you should calm down Kurt, you look worse than a nervous Chihuhua. Everything is going to be fine you'll see. Who knows, maybe Y/N will soon become a my sister in law"
Kurt chuckled softly at Rogue's playful remarks as she left to go find Y/N. He leaned back on the couch, taking a moment to steady his nerves.
"Perhaps she is not far away from the truth," he murmured under his breath, a flicker of anticipation and excitement stirring within him. He couldn't help but hope that Rogue's words would come true, that Y/N would someday become a part of his family. And he was determined to do everything in his power to make it happen.
Rogue arrived at Y/N's room and knocked on the door hoping that she would be in the room, otherwise she would have to look for her in every corner of the mansion.
"Rogue? What happened?" Y/N opened the door, Kurt was indeed right, she had just gotten out of the shower.
"Nothing, I just wanted to talk to you for a while. You know, a girls' night."
"Sounds good" Y/N said with a smile and giving her friend space to enter.
As Rogue entered Y/N's room, a mischievous grin played on her lips. She took in Y/N's appearance, noting the fresh scent of soap clinging to her friend's skin and the way her damp hair clung to her neck.
"Ah, it seems my timing was impeccable," Rogue remarked with a chuckle, closing the door behind her. She took a seat on the edge of Y/N's bed, stretching her legs out comfortably.
"Yes, it's been a while since we've had an afternoon together." Cenitt fell onto her bed next to Rogue. "How have you been? How have things been between you and Gambit?"
Rogue's smile widened knowingly as she reclined on Cenitt's bed. Her friendship with her friend allowed her to feel truly comfortable.
"Ah, Gambit and I are doing just fine," she replied, a spark of mischief in her eyes. "But let's leave aside the talk of my love life for now. I'm more interested in yours, Sugar."
"Mine?" Y/N lifted her upper body carrying her weight on her elbows. She could notice Rogue's mischievous look.
Rogue nodded, her eyes twinkling with intrigue.
"Indeed, yours. I'm curious to know what's been happening in the romantic realm of your life."
She leaned closer, her smirk widening. "Has a certain blue, furry mutant piqued your interest lately?"
"You speak of Beast?" Y/N was pretending not to know what Rogue was talking about. "Don't get me wrong, but don't you think Hank is a little too old for me?" she was trying not to laugh
Rogue chuckled at her friend's attempt to play coy.
"You know very well, Sugar, that Hank is not the object of my curiosity," she teased, her eyes gleaming. "I was referring to a certain mutant with a tail and a penchant for teleporting. A certain Nightcrawler, perhaps?"
"I've never heard of him. Is he new?" She was definitely playing with Rogue, trying to evade reality. She slowly get out of bed with clear intentions to flee.
As Y/N attempted to make her escape, Rogue's reflexes were quick. She darted forward, gently tugging her back onto the bed.
"Oh no, you're not escaping that easily, my dear friend," she teased, pinning Y/N down with a soft but firm hold. "We're going to talk about Kurt and your feelings for him."
Y/N ended up under Rogue, she held her without moving on the mattress "I have nothing to say, you won't make me talk" she tried to squirm.
Rogue kept Y/N pinned with a mischievous grin. "Oh, come now," she teased, her grip tightening. "You don't think I don't know how you look at him? The way your eyes light up whenever he enters the room. The way your breath catches in your throat when he smiles at you. You can fool others, but you can't fool me."
"Am I really that obvious when I see him?"
Rogue nodded, a knowing smirk on her lips.
"Oh Sugar, your feelings for Kurt are written all over your face. It's impossible to miss the way you look at him. Your eyes follow his every move, and your heart skips a beat when he's near."
She released her grip, allowing Y/N to sit up as she continued speaking. "But the real question is, does he know how you feel? Does he know the depth of your affection?"
Y/N looked at Rogue sadly "No, he doesn't know" her voice sounded very sad and almost like a sigh.
Rogue's expression softened at Y/N's answer. "Ah, why haven't you told him how you feel?" she gently asked, placing a comforting hand on her shoulder. "It's clear to me that your affection for Kurt is genuine. Why the hesitation?"
"Because your brother doesn't love me, at least not that way. I've seen how Kurt treats other people and believe me, there isn't much difference in how he looks at me and how he looks at the rest of the team." She sat up, leaning her back against the headboard while hugging her knees. "He doesn't love me. Rogue."
Rogue gently shook her head, a sympathetic smile playing on her lips. "Sugar, you couldn't be more wrong," she said softly, putting her arm around Y/N in a comforting but firm hold. "Kurt's affection for you is different. There's a warmth, a depth of feeling that he doesn't show towards others. He may not have expressed it yet, but he loves you. I can see it and I know it."
"You're only saying that because you're my friend Rogue, Kurt likes pretty girls like Amanda or Wanda, not simple girls like me. He deserves to be with someone like them."
Rogue's expression turned firm yet compassionate. She gently turned Y/N to face her, holding her friend's gaze earnestly.
"Listen to me, Y/N. You are not 'simple'. You're intelligent, kind, beautiful in your own way. Don't underestimate yourself or underestimate Kurt's capacity to see the beauty within you. And trust me, he does see it. I wouldn't lie to you about something like this."
"How do you know? How do you know he's not lying?" Y/N looked at her eagerly awaiting her response.
Rogue met Y/N's eyes with a steady, sincere expression.
"Because I've seen the way Kurt looks at you when he thinks no one is watching. There's a depth to his gaze, a longing in his expression that he simply can't fake. When he gazes at you, his eyes light up as if he's looking at a treasure he can't quite touch. I've never seen him look at anyone the way he looks at you."
"So
do you think I have a chance?" The color seemed to return to Y/N's face. "Do you think Kurt wants to be with me?"
Rogue chuckled softly, a mixture of amusement and affection in her voice. "Sugar, if there's one thing I know for certain, it's that Kurt Wagner would be a fool not to want to be with you. You have a chance, and not just any chance - a great one. Trust me, he's just struggling with his own insecurities, but deep down, he feels the same for you."
"And what should I do?" At one point she felt like she was going to hyperventilate. "What if I tell him and ruin it? You know I get very nervous being with him."
She thought for a moment before agreeing with Rogue. "Yes, you're right. I'm going to tell him." She got up from the bed and walked out the door, leaving Rogue confused by the change in attitude.
Not two seconds passed when Y/N came back through the door.
"I better tell him later"
Rogue got up from the bed and grabbed her by the shoulders. "No, no way. You'll go right now and tell him what you feel." She turned her around as he pushed her toward the door. "The both of you are like a pair of love-struck teenagers."
"Well, tell me what he likes. You're his sister, you know what he likes." Y/N began pacing back and forth in front of her. "Maybe I can prepare his favorite food."
Rogue rubbed her chin thoughtfully, a smirk playing on her lips. "Ah, Kurt has a weakness for good food. He does have a sweet tooth, and anything involving chocolate usually puts a smile on his face." She chuckled softly, then added with a mischievous glint in her eyes, "And speaking of things that make him smile... don't forget, he's a gentleman at heart. Acts of kindness and thoughtfulness mean a lot to him, especially from those he cares about. Just remember, my friend, be yourself, be genuine."
"I'll make Kurt a chocolate cake, maybe I can get a German recipe." Y/N took out his cell phone and started searching for recipes on the internet. "I can get the ingredients and maybe write him a letter. And, Since you're so interested in my romantic life, are you going to help me with the cake" Y/N took Rogue by the hand and together they left the room laughing on their way to the kitchen without seeing that Gambit and Kurt were behind them.
Rogue shared a secret smile with Y/N as they made their way to the kitchen. She had no idea of the duo following behind them. As they entered the kitchen, Kurt and Gambit silently crept closer, their curiosity piqued.
Gambit whispered to Kurt, who seemed on the verge of panicking. "Easy there, mon ami," he said, trying to maintain his cool composure. "Rogue and Y/N don't know we're here. Let's just see what happens, alright?"
Y/N was finishing measuring the flour when someone entered the kitchen and greeted the two girls. He was the new boy, he had not long arrived at the mansion, he began to talk to the girls, paying special attention to Y/N.
"Oh that's not good" Gambit said quietly turning to look at Kurt.
Kurt's eyes widened as he watched the newcomer's attention on Y/N He glanced over at Gambit, a mixture of anger and jealousy evident in his expression.
"No, it's not good," he hissed through clenched teeth. "I know that look. He's eyeing Y/N!"
Y/N didn't realize the boy's intentions and was just being nice to him. She was more interested in the cake for Kurt but Rogue was beginning to doubt the boy's actions. At one point the boy was very close to Y/N.
As the boy came closer to Y/N and leaned in an all too familiar way, Rogue's protective instincts kicked in, her eyes narrowing.
"Hey, buddy, you're getting a bit too close to my friend there," she interjected, her voice tinged with warning. "Maybe dial back the charm a bit."
Rogue's response calmed Kurt but left Y/N confused. "Come on Rogue, he is just being nice, right?" She looked the boy straight in the eyes.
The newcomer, emboldened by Y/N's naive response, smirked and leaned even closer, his intentions becoming quite clear.
"Nah, Rogue's just jealous of our chemistry," he said, his tone oozing with false confidence. "We have a connection, don't we, sweetheart?" He reached out to touch Y/N's hand.
Y/N tensed when she felt the boy's hand on her and it was worse when he pulled her to his side.
and Kurt didn't like that
"Okay, enough. Hit him." Gambit moved from the door, letting Kurt pass.
Kurt, filled with a mix of protectiveness and anger, stormed into the kitchen without hesitation. His gaze landed on the newcomer, and before anyone could utter a word, Kurt's fist flew straight into the boy's face, sending him stumbling back.
"Hands off," Kurt growled, "Y/N is not a toy for you to play with."
"Kurt!" Y/N expected anything but this, she had never seen Kurt so upset, but it didn't stop her from moving away from the boy.
Kurt's eyes met Y/N's, the intensity of his gaze softened as he realized his reaction might have startled her. He took a deep breath, trying to compose himself.
"I'm sorry, Y/N," he muttered, his voice laced with a mix of frustration and regret. "I couldn't stand the thought of that guy touching you or disrespecting you. I acted before I thought."
"Don't worry Kurt, I'm fine" Y/N gave him a small smile to reassure him "Your hand
" She reached out to take his hand in hers but she was shaking.
"I think it's better that we go somewhere else" Rogue was upset.
Kurt's expression softened at Y/N's concern for his hand. He glanced down at his bruised knuckles, a small grimace on his face.
"It's alright, Y/N. Just a bit of bruising," he muttered, his tone a mix of annoyance and resignation.
As Rogue spoke up, Kurt turned his attention to her. Recognizing the tension in her voice, he nodded in agreement.
"Yes, let's leave this place."
Everyone left the kitchen in silence, they chose to go to one of the rooms on the second floor, at that time there was no one in that part. All the way Kurt didn't let go of Y/Ns hand. Once they arrived, Rogue went to the bathroom to look for a first aid kit.
"You have blood on your hand Kurt." Y/N caressed her knuckles.
As Y/N gently caressed his knuckles, Kurt couldn't help but cringe slightly at the sight of the blood.
"Oh, don't worry about that," he muttered, a hint of pain in his voice. "It's nothing serious. These hands have been through worse. A little blood doesn't phase me."
Despite his dismissive words, Kurt secretly appreciated Y/N's concern for his injury.
Y/N took the first aid kit that Rogue brought "Can I?"
I take out a couple of gauze and bandages.
Kurt was going to refuse but out of the corner of his eye he saw Gambit moving for him to accept the offer, giving him a thumbs up.
"This is your chance" Gambit was trying to tell him, Rogue understood what Gambit was implying and followed Gambit's plan.
"We'll go make sure we haven't gotten into trouble."
Kurt hesitated for a moment, feeling slightly self-conscious about the attention. However, taking a deep breath, he decided to accept Y/N's offer. "Well, fine
If you insist," he said with a hint of reluctance, trying to sound indifferent. As he extended his injured hand towards Y/N, he shot a subtle glance at Gambit and Rogue, silently acknowledging their plan.
"Tell me if it hurts." Y/N began to carefully clean Kurt's hand. "Thank you... Kurt"
Kurt watched quietly as Y/N tended to his injured hand with gentle care. He winced slightly as the cloth touched the wounded area, but a small smile tugged at the corners of his lips. "It's alright," he muttered softly. "I've suffered worse. Besides, I would do it again to keep you away from that disrespectful fool."
"I'm not going to lie to you, that boy scared me a little. I didn't think he would try something like that."
Y/N was finishing cleaning the wound "But I guess I have the best hero on my side"
Kurt smiled slightly at Y/N's words, feeling a mixture of pride and humility in his heart. He could feel a tinge of blush on his cheeks, but he tried to suppress it, keeping a composed expression on his face.
"Ah, you flatter me too much, my dear friend," he replied with a hint of humility. "I'm just doing what any true friend would do. Protecting you from those who don't deserve your kindness."
Y/N couldn't help but feel a pain in her heart when she heard Kurt call her friend. Rogue was wrong, Kurt was just being nice to her.
"Yes
It's good that you're my friend" She said, turning to look at his bandaged hand.
As Y/N grew silent and tears threatened to spill from her eyes, Kurt gently reached out to cup her chin, tilting her face gently to look at him. His gaze held a deep affection and sincerity as he spoke softly.
"Y/N, please don't feel like you have to say anything. I just wanted you to know that my feelings for you run deeper than mere friendship." He spoke with a gentle vulnerability, his words holding a genuine love for her.
"Please stop" Her voice sounded so broken
"Don't play with my feelings Kurt."
Kurt's heart sank as he heard Y/Ns broken voice, her pain evident in her pleading words. "No, no, Y/N." He rushed to reassure her, pulling her into a gentle embrace, "I would never play with your feelings. You mean too much to me for that. My words come from the deepest depths of my heart. I care for you deeply, and my love for you is -"
Y/N looked at Kurt interrupting him "I like you Kurt"
Kurt's heart leaped in his chest as Y/N confessed her feelings for him.
He gently brushed away her tears with his bandaged hand, a tender smile on his face.
"Y/N," he whispered softly, "I feel the same way. My heart has known for a while, and now my mind understands it too. I like you, Y/N
No, it's more than 'like.' "I love you."
"I love you too..." She hugged him "Why you never said anything?"
Kurt wrapped his arms around Y/N, encircling her in a tight hug. As he held her close, he let out a soft chuckle. "I suppose... I was afraid." He admitted quietly, his voice tinged with a mix of vulnerability and contentment. "Afraid of ruining the friendship we had, and of jeopardizing something so precious. But... I can no longer deny the depth of my feelings for you. It's become too powerful to ignore."
"We both think the same thing, I liked you from the first day I met you but I was very afraid to get close and when you offered me your friendship I knew that I didn't want to be far from you, I accepted it but I always wanted to be something more"
Kurt listened intently to Y/Ns words, his heart swelling with a mix of joy and regret. He gently cupped her face between his hands, his touch both tender and filled with passion. "We were both fools," he whispered, a hint of self-deprecation mingling with his affection. "All this time, we've been yearning for something that was right in front of us. But now... now that we've confessed our love, we can finally make up for lost time."
"I would love that" She looked at him lovingly and rested her head on his shoulder.
Kurt's eyes sparkled with affection as Y/N rested her head on his shoulder. Softly wrapping his arm around her, he gently squeezed her closer, relishing the closeness they now shared. "Then it's settled," he whispered, his voice filled with adoration. "From now on, we'll cherish every moment we spend together. No more hiding our feelings or fearing what could have been. We'll love each other openly and passionately, just the way it was always meant to be."
"I told you they ended up together" "We already know that, everyone in the mansion knew it except them" Gambit and Rogue were leaning against the door listening to the conversation between Kurt and Y/N
Kurt's cheeks flushed a deep shade of crimson as he heard Gambit's teasing remark. He had completely forgotten that they were listening in on their heartfelt confessions. With a sheepish grin, Kurt turned his head towards the door, locking eyes with Gambit and Rogue. "Oh, come on," he groaned, a mix of embarrassment and amusement in his voice. "You didn't have to eavesdrop on our private moment, you two."
Gambit chuckled, a mischievous twinkle in his eyes. "Well, what can I say? We couldn't resist witnessing this long-overdue romance unfold." He shared a knowing glance with Rogue, both of them smiling at Kurt and Y/N's newfound relationship.

THIRD TIME'S THE CHARM . . .
oliver queen / the arrow x reporter reader; cw angst ish fluff ish
💭 written with smallville!oliver queen in mind
Tumblr media
oliver queen, notoriously rich playboy (and the green arrow behind closed doors), is not amused when he meets you, the nosy reporter from the daily planet who doesn't have an ounce of self-preservation.
the first time oliver meets you is as the green arrow. slinging through the streets of star city, he's surprised to find some metropolis journalist so far from home. but more than that, he's shocked to see just how careless you are when you're chasing a lead. it's like you don't even care if you get hurt!
"for your information, i totally had that handled." you dusted off your pants and waved away the outstretched hand he offered.
he rolled his eyes under his mask. "you almost got your ass handed to you by that fence, which might i add is electrified."
"and that concerns bootleg peter pan because?"
at that he scoffed. "i'm—"
"the green arrow aka arrogant asshole vigilante, yeah i know."
"arrogant asshole is taking it a little bit far," he deadpanned.
you ignored him. "listen, i'm sure there's some damsel in actual distress out there for you to help, but i've got a story to chase on queen industries, mr. glorified leprechaun, so i'll take my leave now."
he watches you leave and a very tiny part of him smiles at the thought of you despite the sarcasm and biting insults.
the second time he runs into you, oliver is at a charity gala that queen industries is hosting to boost their publicity (or rather, their public image which has taken a dip in light of recent news). he sips leisurely on the glass of champagne as his eyes trail after you (because he wouldn't admit it, but you looked damn good in what you were wearing tonight).
"mr. queen, sorry to interrupt, but i'm with the daily planet," you flash your business card to him and try not to act surprised when he actually takes it, "i've just got a few questions for you."
"and this wouldn't be about the collaboration between queen industries and luthercorp on meteorite technology, would it? because that isn't public knowledge yet, and considering that we recently had a security breach," he looked at you squarely, "it'd be awfully convenient for you to have insider information regarding said breach."
you tensed under his gaze. technically, breaking and entering wasn't criminal unless you got caught, which you hadn't been. plus, it's not like you stole anything, you'd just been . . . exploring queen industries' laboratories for a scoop on their experimenting.
"i have my sources," you settled on saying. "unless you're accusing me of—"
he scoffed, and you frowned. it sounded familiar.
"no, i wouldn't be so much of an arrogant asshole to accuse you of such a thing," he quipped sarcastically, the comment slipping out before he could think twice.
that was definitely familiar.
"now that you mention it mr. queen, how are you so sure it wasn't that green masked vigilante that no one seems to know anything about that broke in?" you pressed on, gauging his reaction, "mr. glorified leprechaun could have been the cause of your security breach."
he didn't say anything nor give you the satisfaction you were looking for, but you'd gotten all the reaction you needed.
"i'll be seeing you around, mr. queen."
"that's not likely."
the third time oliver sees you is when his mask slips off his face from all the blood. he'd stopped in an alleyway briefly to catch his breath; he should have known better than to let his guard down.
the lit cigarette between your fingertips fell to the ground as your eyes widened with recognition.
"i knew it," you breathed. "oh, i fucking knew it."
and you're all but barreling over to him before he can stop you from coming any closer. he's bleeding from all over, bruised from the night's patrol, and he doesn't want to hurt you. not to mention, he's feeling faint—dangerously faint.
so he catches you in his arms just as you catch him.
"you can't tell anyone," he says before passing out leaving you with one hell of a problem on your hands.
Tumblr media
💭 i'm feeling a part 2 in the works
💭 update: i have crazy writer's block for oliver queen i'm sorry 😭 the part 2 is being worked on but if it'll see the light of day any time soon . . . i'm not sure

Dick
Dick looks at the numbers on the digital thermometer with a sigh. “Your temperature’s only going up.”
“Is that a bad thing?” You try to joke but your whole body aches, your skin is feverish and clammy, and your head spins every time you open your eyes.
He looks at you seriously, giving you the signature Dick Grayson disappointed older brother, team leader look.
“I take it no patrol tonight?”
He rests his hand on your thigh. “Not a chance in hell.”
“I figured as much,” you grumble.
“I’ll stay in with you tonight,” he insists, giving your leg a squeeze. “We can watch a movie or something. I’ll even let you choose.”
You let out a deep breath, leaning back and resting your head against your cold bed frame. His offer is tempting—it's not often he stays home during the evening. “Okay,” you nod your head slowly. “We’ll stay in tonight.”
He beams at your decision, planting a chaste kiss to your forehead before jumping up and leaving you in your bed. “I’ll be back in an hour, alright?”
You offer a weak thumbs up before relaxing back into your nest of blankets and pillows. It won’t hurt to sleep a little while he’s out, and you are pretty tired.
—
You wake up hours later, Dick nowhere to be seen. Your whole body feels like it’s been set on fire and beat with a baseball bat, but you still struggle out of bed to go find your boyfriend. Of course, he’s nowhere to be seen.
You narrow your eyes, a sinking feeling in your chest because you know exactly where he is. Your hunch is proved right when you open the closet door with shaky hands and see the empty hanger where the Nightwing costume should be.
What happened to staying in tonight? No patrol?
The thought of him leaving you while you feel this sick lights a fuse in your chest, and before you know it, you’re lazily tugging your own suit over your limbs. The suit only makes you feel hotter, your muscles aching in protest, but you need to see him.
By some miracle, you manage to stumble your way across Gotham in the dead of night while dealing with an extremely high fever and body aches.
Still, your boyfriend is nowhere in sight. You followed the trail of beaten thugs and failed robberies straight to the centre of the city, but Nightwing wasn’t there. You feel slightly woozy, your knees shaking below you.
Your phone buzzes in your back pocket and you take it out, the writing blurry on the small glowing screen. You squint but the letters spin on the screen, and you can’t seem to make them out.
In fact, when you look up from the screen, the whole world is spinning. Your head feels impossibly heavy, and suddenly your body is pitching forwards.
————
Dick knows he’s fucked when he gets home and you’re nowhere to be seen. He sees the open closet door and the empty hanger where your costume should’ve been, and groans.
If only he had just stayed home like he said. Guilt overwhelms him, but he swallows it back and forces himself to push through.
You shouldn’t even be out of bed, let alone roaming the city dressed as a vigilante. Dick cards his fingers through his hair and starts to make his way through the city again.
He assumes you were trying to find him, so he circles back through his usual patrol spots. The longer it takes to find you, the more anxious and guilty he feels.
It’s all his fault that you’re even in this mess, stumbling through the city sick and disoriented.
He finds you unconscious on a rooftop, tucked away in a corner, a small cut on your face from what he assumes was the impact. Seeing you like this makes his heart drop and for what feels like a thousand years, he watches you and waits for your chest to rise. He stares, holding his own breath until he finally sees your lungs inflate with air.
He’s scooping you up in his arms and carrying you back to the apartment in an instant, careful not to jostle you too much. He can feel your feverish skin through your costume, sweat pooling on your forehead and neck. He could set a record for how fast he had you home.
He changes you out of your suit and into comfortable pjs, patching up the mark on your face and tucking you into bed. He’s always taken care of his younger brothers so he knows just how to take care of you.
He puts an ice pack on your forehead to keep you from burning up too much and gets water and ginger ale for your nightstand. He knows you’ll need fluids and medicine when you wake up and he wants to be prepared.
Even after he’s prepared everything and double checked his, his nerves don’t settle. You’ve been out cold for at least an hour, with no sign of waking up. Another hour of this and he’ll have to take you to the hospital.
He paces the room, eyes never leaving your sleeping figure. Wake up, wake up, wake up. He tries to will you awake, hoping your eyes will open any second and you’ll berate him for leaving you.
“Dick..?”
His pacing comes to a stop, eyes snapping to yours. “Oh, thank god,” he kneels next to your side of the bed and takes your hand in his. “How’re you feeling?”
As if on cue, you groan in pain. The ice pack he placed on your forehead does little to help with the heat that’s ignited your whole body. Your eyes feel painfully heavy, and all of your muscles feel inflamed.
He holds a glass of water up to your lips, helping you tip your head back so you can drink some. He pops a couple pills into your mouth and pours some more water in to wash them down.
“They’ll probably take fifteen minutes to work,” he keeps his voice quiet. “You’ll feel a lot better soon though, I promise. I’ll make sure you’re all better.”
You nod weakly. “You—you left me
”
Dick’s heart breaks at the sound of your sad, weak voice. He was hoping you wouldn’t dwell on that too much, the reminder that his fuck up for you into this mess weighing heavily on him.
“I know, baby. And I’m so, so sorry. There was an emergency and I thought I could sneak out quick but,” he sighs and tugs on his hair. “I’m not gonna leave your side until you’re all better, okay? Never again.”
You’re too tired and sick to care for grovelling, you’re just glad he’s here and you don’t have to suffer alone. You reach a hand out to grab his hand and weakly tug him towards the bed.
Dick obliges, crawling in next to you and letting you rest on his chest. “I’m gonna make you all better, hm? You’ll be all better soon, hun.”
His soothing voice coupled with the circles he traces on your back are enough to keep you content until the medicine kicks in. Then, you’re drifting back to sleep in Dick’s arms, already feeling better from the turmoil of the day

Jason
You think Jason may be the most dense man on the planet. Unlike his father, his detective skills seriously need some work.
When you woke up this morning with a fever and aches, you were sure you could push through it. It’s just a little cold, or so you thought. As the day turned into night and you got ready for patrol, your symptoms only worsened.
Your body aches grew worse, your fever grew hotter and your movements got sluggish. Still, you brushed it off. You never miss patrol with Jason, and tonight wasn’t going to be a first.
“You’re off to a slow start,” he teases.
You would roll your eyes if you weren’t so tired. “Shut up. I didn’t sleep well last night.”
It’s a total lie, of course. And if he could see the swelling of your glassy eyes or touch your boiling skin, he would know otherwise. Lucky for you, the adrenaline rush Jason gets on patrol creates a kind of tunnel vision that allows him to completely overlook your symptoms.
You stumble a bit, having to brace yourself against one of the shipping containers. You’re glad Jason shot out all of the street lamps at the old dock, leaving you in perpetual darkness. A perfect cover to hide the pain you’re feeling.
You take a deep breath and groan, pushing off of the container and running to catch up with him. The friction only makes you hotter, the air being forced from your lungs. Your head spins and black spots crowd your vision, but you take a weak breath and force them away. Now is not the time to be weak.
Jason tilts his head at you, and you can feel his judging eyes from under the mask. “Seriously, are you okay? Did you get hurt or something?”
“Did you? You’re off your game too, Red.” You try to nudge him teasingly but it just sends a shockwave through your body, your head suddenly pounding.
He looks like he’s going to say something you don’t want to hear but you’re saved by the bell when an unlucky drug dealer stumbles into view.  Jason is pouncing on him in a minute, leaving you to your thoughts.
His form gets blurrier the more you watch him fight, and you swear your arms and legs are growing heavier by the second. Your head lulls back and you worry for a minute that you’re going to pass out.
You manage to catch yourself, pinching your arms to keep yourself aware. It works, but only for a second. You have enough time to make eye contact with Jason before your eyes are rolling back and you’re dropping like a sack of potatoes.
—
Jason is freaking the fuck out. For a minute, he’s worried you’re injured—or worse. All he saw was your panicked expression before you dropped to the pavement. If he wasn’t so worried, he would have laughed at your lack of grace.
He makes quick work of the remaining drug dealers, tearing through them with all the anxiety he’s feeling. By the time he’s made it to you, your body is practically on fire. He flinched away at first, not expecting your skin to be as hot as it is.
“You idiot,” he lifts you into his arms, letting your head hang over his shoulder. “You should’ve just told me you were sick.”
He forces himself to keep his calm demeanour the whole way to the apartment. He doesn’t let himself worry until you’re both changed out of your patrol clothes and into normal, ordinary pyjamas.
He has you laid down in the passenger seat of his car, his foot pressing heavily on the gas the entire way to the hospital. He knows it’s just a fever, but you fainted. Something could be seriously wrong, and he can’t chance anything. Not with you.
—
You come to in the hospital, an IV in your arm. It takes a few blinks for you to take in your surroundings, but even then, it’s hard to keep your eyes open. Your throbbing headache does not mesh well with the fluorescent lights.
“Jason,” your voice is barely a whisper. “Did you take me to the hospital?”
“No shit,” he scoffs. “
You would laugh at his brazenness if you weren’t in so much pain. The scratchy cotton thread of the hospital blankets aren’t enough to keep you warm, and despite being covered in sweat, you’re shivering.
Jason sighs. “You’re an idiot, you know that? You could’ve just told me you were sick.”
“I-I—,” you can barely speak with how bad you’re shivering.
Jason’s heart hurts at the sight of you, and despite how frustrated he is with your antics, he climbs into the bed with you and lets you lay against his chest.
You relax into him, trying to sap his body heat. You know this can’t exactly be comfortable for him, especially considering you’re a million degrees, and it makes you appreciate it even more.
“You know, I thought about just tossing you in the harbour and calling it a day.”
You let out a weak laugh at that. “I’m sure you did.”
“Okay, maybe not,” he admits, “but if you ever do that to me again, you will be taking an impromptu swim.”
“As you wish, Jay.”
He kisses the top of your head, “get some rest, hm?”
You nod weakly, letting your body sag against his. Just as sleep begins to take you, you mumble, “I love you.”
Jason’s heart flutters at your words. “I love you too.”

Tim
Tim is such a hypocrite.
When he pushes himself to his absolute limit, staying up until he quite literally drops, it’s fine. But god forbid you try to push yourself even the slightest, or there’s hell to pay from your boyfriend.
“Tim, I’m fine,” you insist, narrowing glassy eyes on him.
He raises his eyebrows in annoyance. “You’re not fine, y/n. You’re burning up. You’re so congested you sound like a little kid. You need rest.”
“Rest, schmest. I’m coming with you.”
“Y/n, honey, love of my life
if you try to come with me, I will slip you Nyquil and you will take a nap.”
You maintain your glare. “You wouldn’t dare.”
“Maybe I already have,” he shrugs, an amused smirk tugging at his lips. “How was the tea I brought you earlier?”
Your eyes shoot wide and you scramble to inspect the now empty Wayne Enterprises mug. There’s no indication that it looks or smells different from any other tea. You look up again, ready to mock laugh at your boyfriend, but he’s no longer there.
“Fucking Timothy,” you shake your head.
He’s been trying to force you to get bed rest all day, refusing to even let you come with him to the grocery store. Sure, you have a fever and you’re congested and your head really hurts,  but that doesn’t mean you have to stay in bed.
You toss the blankets onto the other side of his bed and struggle your way out of it. The air outside of his bed is cold, forcing goosebumps onto your arms, but you don’t care. You tug on one of Tim’s sweatshirts and stumble your way downstairs.
He’s gone when you get down there, the only semblance of human life being Alfred sitting at the kitchen table. He’s reading a newspaper, seemingly deep in thought, yet the minute you step towards the front door, he speaks.
“If you are trying to follow Master Timothy, I would advise against that.”
“I-I wasn’t
how did you know?”
He smiles at you, “Master Timothy expected you would try to follow him, and asked that I make sure you rest.”
“Damn you, Tim.”
“I’ve prepared some water in the kettle and there are blankets on the couch if you’d like to watch a tv show with me?”
“That sounds great, thank you,” you sigh, giving up and trudging your way to the couch.
You settle in under a blanket, leaning your head against the couch cushion. Alfred comes in a few minutes later with two glasses of tea and a bottle of medicine.
You thank the man and take a few pills and the mug of tea, swallow down the pills and set the tea on the nightstand.
Alfred turns on the TV and starts to play one of his English soap operas. The sounds all blur together and you fade in and out of consciousness, every once and a while snapping back to reality when you hear the door unlock.
Of course, a million people seem to come and go from Wayne Mansion and your boyfriend is nowhere to be seen. Alfred has seemed to doze off as well, his eyes closed and head resting on the couch cushion behind him.
You stand up from the couch on shaky legs, discarding the blankets next to you. You feel dizzy and lightheaded as soon as you stand up but you persevere.
You’re not really sure where you’re going, all you know is that you want to see Tim and the first step is getting to the front door. You make it to the front entrance, and you’re only five feet from the door, but your whole body hurts so bad and you’re so tired and everything is so hot and cold.
You brace yourself on the wall, leaning your whole body weight on it. You blink a few times, trying to keep the black spots from spreading to your vision. Everything overheats, and your muscles start to weaken. Before you can take another step, your body is failing, and your vision is going black.
—
Tim comes home just in time to see you hit the floor. He drops his groceries onto the floor, not even closing the door behind him as he runs to your side.
“Y/n?” He presses a cold hand to your forehead, “y/n, wake up!”
He gently shakes your shoulders, willing you to wake up and be okay. His family all arrive at once, staring at the two of you on the floor.
“Why couldn’t you just stay in bed? Dummy.”
He slips his hands under your knees and arms, lifting you off the ground. Your skin is hot to the touch but you’re shivering, sweat rolling down your temples. He carries you back to his room, laying you down in the bed and covering you in blankets.
He knows rationally that you’ll be okay, that your body was just responding to the exertion you put it through today. But emotionally? He’s freaking out. He can’t help but wish he’d stayed home with you, taken care of you himself, laid in bed with you all day.
Tim tries to distract himself by bringing up water and medicine and a cold cloth for you, but it does little to calm his nerves. Every minute that it takes you to wake up, he only gets more and more anxious.
Finally, after almost two hours, your eyes flutter open. Your head is pounding and it’s hard to keep from falling back asleep, but you force yourself to stay awake.
“Tim?” You call out, your voice even raspier than before.
“Hey, hey, I’m here,” he murmurs, getting up from his desk and kneeling at your side. “How are you feeling?”
“Bad,” you admit, tears threatening to spill. “Really bad.”
He hands you two pills and a glass of water. “Here, take these, okay?”
You struggle to swallow the pills and water but somehow manage. The pain in your body is enough to bring you to tears and you can only hope that the medicine will kick in soon.
Tim rubs your forehead with the back of his hand. “You’re burning up
”
“I—will you lay with me? I miss you
”
Tim can only oblige. You just look so cute and so vulnerable with your glassy eyes and clammy skin. He wouldn’t dare say no to you right now.
He kicks off his jeans and t-shirt, trading them for a pair of sweatpants before settling in next to you. He can feel your body heat even though he’s not touching you, and even though he wants to hold you, he’s not sure if he should.
“Are you hot or cold?” He asks.
“Cold.”
That’s all the answer he needs before he tugs you into his chest, holding your body gently to his. He places a small kiss on your forehead and makes a silent vow not to leave your side until you feel better.
-
Wally
“Are you sure you should be going on this mission?” Wally looks at you seriously.
“Yes. Why are you even asking?”
He presses a hand to your skin, recoiling when he feels how hot you are. “Jesus, you’re hot.”
“Well, hello to you too.” You roll your eyes.
“Y/n, you don’t look too good. I don’t think you should be coming along,” he looks at you with genuine concern. “You’re running real hot and that’s coming from me.”
“Wally, if I don’t come along, the whole mission is screwed.”
“I know, I know. You’re so stubborn,” he sighs. “Come along but the minute you start to feel worse, you tell me, alright?”
“Alright.”
He flashes you his signature grin, planting a kiss to your nose. He squeezes your shoulders once, before giving you a half assed salute and taking off at the speed of light.
You smile after him, but your smile fades once he’s out of sight. Your head is spinning and your whole body feels like it’s on fire. With the way your muscles are aching, you’re not sure if you’ll even be able to finish the mission.
Still, you have to try.
————
Going on this mission was a mistake.
It feels like every floor of the sinister science institute is filled with more and more baddies, tougher ones too. You were beat after the first floor, but now that you’re on the fifth, with three more to go, you’re not even sure if you’ll make it.
You can hear Wally up ahead, zooming back and forth and taking out any baddies in his way. You know he’s partly doing this for you—trying to clear the floor and make things easier on you. He’d asked you one more time before you entered the facility if you were feeling up to it, and after you insisted you were, he didn’t bother to argue.
You almost wish he did, though. Your head is spinning, everything hurts and everything is so hot and sweaty. You try to force yourself to stay awake, but even you know your movements are slow and sluggish and you’re a danger to all of your teammates.
Nightwing is somewhere behind you, insisting there’s an air duct he can sneak through to get to the main lab before they evacuate. A part of you wishes you’d gone with him. At least then you wouldn’t be stuck leaning against a wall, desperately trying to get your bearings.
You force yourself onto your feet, stumbling down the hall after Wally. You only make it a few steps before your muscles turn to jello and the black spots crowd your version.
You go limp, your mind retreating far, far away.
Wally turns around just in time to see you go limp, and he’s speeding down the hallway and catching you within a fraction of a second. He doesn’t give you the chance to hit the ground, his arms already under your knees and shoulders, ready to carry you to safety.
Your skin is hot to the touch, hotter than it was earlier. He shakes his head at you. He knew this was gonna happen. He knew you would push yourself too hard and end up getting yourself hurt.
He gets you out of the building and into the jet you and some of the other Titans had taken to get there. He hates the thought of leaving you there, but he knows you would never forgive him if he abandoned the team now.
Still, he only gets more and more anxious the longer the mission takes. The second Dick secures the samples he was looking for, Wally is taking off. He’s got you in his arms, speeding back towards your shared apartment.
He’s got you home in a matter of seconds, changing you into a pair of his boxers and one of his old t-shirts. He tucks your boiling body into bed, covering you with blankets up to your waist.
He doesn’t really know how to take care of someone when they're sick. Whenever he was sick as a kid, he would always just eat ice cream and play video games. That, or he would sneak out and go hang out with Dick or Connor.
But he knows you need more than ice cream and video games right now.
He decides on grabbing you water and digging through your cabinets to find any medicine that could possibly help. He tries to remember what his mom did for him when he was young, and all he can think of is a cold cloth on his forehead. Still, that’s better than leaving you there to boil to death.
He lays the cloth gently on your forehead, leaving your water and medicine on the nightstand for when you wake up.
He changes out of his suit, opting for a pair of sweatpants and a t-shirt. Of course, you’re wearing his favorite t-shirt, but this one will have to do. He settles into the bed next to you, turning on the tv. He tries to keep the volume and the brightness low.
After what seems like forever, you start to stir. Everything is too bright and hot when you open your eyes, and it has you squirming and crying. Wally is grabbing your hand as soon as you wake up, using his other hand to press the cold cloth into your forehead.
“Shhh, babe, it’s okay.”
You clench your eyes shut and shake your head. “E-everything hurts so bad!”
He reaches across you for the water and the medicine, holding the glass up to your lips so you can take a sip before popping the pills into your mouth. You gladly swallow them, relaxing slightly at the taste of water. Wally sets the glass on the nightstand, resting his hands on your thighs.
“I’m sorry for pushing myself so hard
I’m sorry that you had to clean up after me.”
“Aw baby,” he grins at you, but it’s not as wide and carefree as it usually is. “You know how much I love rescuing damsels in distress.”
Classic Wally, trying to make you laugh even when you feel like you’re on your deathbed. He rubs your thighs gently up and down, trying to soothe you.
“Did the mission at least go okay?”
He kisses you gently, “don’t you worry your pretty little head about the mission, okay?”
He goes to pull away but you weakly wrap your arms around him, trying to pull him to you. He wraps his arms around your shoulders, holding you tightly.
“It’s okay baby,” he whispers. “Everything is gonna be okay. I love you so much.”

✹✹✹✹✹✹✹✹✹✹
A warm summer evening. The humidity had seeped into the subway tunnels and warmed the smell of the sewage and stale air. A young woman clutching a small bag of groceries was crouching down in the middle of the slightly crowded platform - an unusual sight - looking quite pale.
‘Just three more stops and I’ll be home.’
You despised the long wait for the next train between transfers. The long day of errands had drained what little energy you had and left you feeling dizzy. The sign above the platform stated the next train would be arriving in roughly 7 more minutes, and you let out a light groan as you scrolled down the light of your phone.
An echo of a stampede suddenly cascaded down the subway steps. Unbothered, you did not glance up from your phone, assuming it was a group of kids or tourists in a rush to make the next train. That is, until you were nudged roughly by an offending leg, knocking you over with a surprised shout.
“Hey!!! What-?”
Your complaint was cut short as you regarded the woman standing above you with shock. The older woman was clad in all black tactical gear, holding a large assault rifle.
“You- get up.”
The command was short and loud as the gun was nudged at you, and you quickly scrambled to your feet. Looking around you saw more thugs cornering the other people on the platform and ordering them to hold their hands to their heads, and stand with their backs facing the platform.
A man shoved you towards the edge of the platform to join the others, your shopping bag abandoned. Your vision swam slightly as the blood rushed to your head, and you tried to get your breathing under control. Everything was happening so fast.
The thugs in all black tactical gear unzipped their duffle bags and started to stick small white boxes to the shadows of the station’s pillars. They were unassuming and blended in.
When they were finished, the older woman ripped off her mask to reveal short stark black hair. You recognized her face from the evening news. She was a head of the Foot Clan that had terrorized New York City many times in the past. It was rumored they had gone into hiding after their leader had disappeared during the invasion. Why had they resurfaced?
“Stand still!” A man barked at you, as you were starting to sway in place. An older man standing beside you gave you a worried look as your breathing became shaky and the color drained from your face, like you were going to be sick. Your eyes were distant as sweat dripped from your temple. You tried to focus as your waning stamina drained and your vision started to blur.
“I
. I need to sit down
” You stated desperately in a small shaky voice. Black dots danced behind your eyes.
“I said STAND STILL!” The man pacing around with a gun shouted at you once more, walking over to you to give you a curt shove with the but of his gun. What little balance you were retaining was broken and you weakly fell to your hands and knees, shaking and breathing heavily.
“HEY!! GET UP!!” The man shouted and kicked your shoulder with his foot. You groaned as your arms trembled but did not have the strength to get up, fighting to stay conscious as your vision swam and nausea crawled up your throat. Then the woman with the short black hair approached at the sounds of the shouting, regarding the collapsed hostage with mild disdain.
“

Throw her onto the tracks.” She coldly ordered, and a few of the other hostages cried out quietly in shock. Your yelp of distress echoed through the station as the man grabbed you and began to drag you the short distance to the edge of the platform. No one dared to step up and protest.
“If anyone else moves a muscle, they shall share the same fate!” She called out to the horrified crowd. Then she spoke a quick order into her walkie talkie, and started to walk towards the exit of the tunnel. The rumble of the train approaching sounded just as the man finally kicked you down onto the train tracks. A shriek rang out from the hostages but still, no one dared move. You tumbled hard onto the dusty dirty tracks and a dull thud could be heard as your head struck metal. You were soundly knocked unconscious.
Suddenly the lights started to flicker. A shout and a cheerful whoop called out from somewhere in the tunnels, the sounds bouncing off the walls with the blaring horn of the train. A darting motion, quick as lightning, two, three, four figures blending into the shadows. In the blink of an eye, the young woman disappeared from the tracks just before the train passed over them.
Wap! Bang!
Two Foot minions were slammed to the ground. There were shouts of alarm and the men with guns looked around for the culprits, shooting wildly at the shadows. The woman in black called out another command before fleeing up the stairs and out of the subway station, escaping the fight. Many of her minions began to quickly follow her while those remaining were quickly subdued by the unseen force.
“Quick! Get out of here!” A new voice in the dark shouted. As the people suddenly were allowed to flee, a large figure appeared, green and in an orange mask, carrying the young woman.
“Here!! Someone take her! Get her out of here! Hey!!!!” He called, holding her out for anyone rushing by, but all the fleeing people gave him a wide berth as they themselves escaped.
“Mikey! Put her down. The police will come find her later.” A gruff voice called out.
“No no wait, she might need immediate medical assistance-“ Another one supplemented.
Suddenly, a small beeping sound started to echo from around the tunnel. The brothers looked around, and noticed small flashing red lights on all the surrounding pillars. They had walked into a trap.
“Ah shit- RUN!!!”
All four brothers jumped down onto the train tracks just as the bombs exploded, sending rubble flying onto the platform and tracks. Pieces of concrete and beams from the ceiling cracked and came loose as the tunnel started to cave in.
“WE NEED TO TAKE COVER!”
The leader in blue led the team down the tracks and towards an unlocked door in the maintenance tunnel. Everyone rushed through the small door just as the rest of the bombs exploded, causing cracks in the street above to stretch down the street and layer upon layer of road and cement to crash down and completely block the tunnel. They waited for the rumbling to die down until the dust settled in the dark of the small room and they all caught their breath.
“Great. The Foot are back and they want us dead.”
“We don’t know that- maybe they were just trying to rob the passengers?”
Donatello cracked a large red glow stick to illuminate what looked like an old control room lined with various pipes and levers.
“And set up all those bombs to go off when we’re the last one in the tunnels? I don’t think so.”
“Uuuuuuh guys?”
“What Mikey?” 3 of the brothers turned to the youngest with exasperation. In the low light they noticed he was still holding the unconscious young woman in his arms.
“You still have her?!?!”
“What??? Was I just supposed to leave her in the collapsing tunnel?!?”
Leonardo sighed and ran a hand down his face as he paced the room. “
Right. We need to get out of here and find a hospital to drop her off at.”
The purple banded brother approached, dropping the glow stick and flicking on a small book light on his shoulder, shining it on the woman’s face. Checking her over for injury, he followed a small trail of blood up into her hairline and found a noticeable bump there and took note of a darkening bruise on her exposed shoulder.
“Duuuuude
. She’s pretty cute! Betcha $10 I can get her number- Ow!” Donnie swatted him for good measure.
“It looks like she might have a concussion. I won’t be able to tell the severity until she wakes up.”
“She must’ve hit her head pretty hard to knock out on the tracks.” Leonardo said, glancing over his brother’s shoulder.
Suddenly the small woman groaned as the light shining in her eyes began to rouse her. The shoulder light was quickly switched off.
“Come on. Let’s find a way outta here before she wakes up.” Raph said gruffly.
He pushed past Donnie and Mikey and slowly tried to pry the metal door open.
“Careful!” Leo jogged over to brace the door as some large chunks of concrete tumbled out, disturbing the dust in the air. Donnie coughed and waved a hand in front of his face as he picked up the glow stick and approached, Mikey being left to stand in the back of the room still holding the injured woman.
Raph and Leo stepped aside as Donnie waved them out of the way, stepping over the wreckage and tossing the glow stick at the base of the door. The light illuminated a small gap in the collapsed stone at the top of the door.
“There. The cave-in isn’t piled high enough in this part of the tunnel. It looks like we can squeeze out through there and look for a manhole cover.”
“Alright, sounds like a plan. I’ll go first to check if it’s stable, then Mikey can pass the girl up to me.” Leo ordered, getting a nod from everyone in approval.
“Be careful not to trigger another shift in the rubble, Leo. If we’re not careful, then another tumble could bury us in here.”
“No pressure or anything dude.” Mikey joked as he went to stand next to Raph as Leo began his climb, the red banded turtle rolling his eyes. Donnie was fiddling with the holo screen on his wrist with a blueprint of the tunnels pulled up.
“You see anything up there Leo??” Donnie called up after Leo fully climbed out of the rubble. The shifting of small rocks could be heard as the blue leader found his barings.
“Looks like there’s a ladder a little ways down the tunnel. Could lead topside.”
“Woo!! Let’s get out of here, I wanna get this dust outta my mouth.” Mikey sputtered and spit as Leo crouched down by the opening, reaching down to be handed the unconscious young woman.
“Me next! I’m gonna check if the ladder is the same one that showed up in my blueprints.” Donnie piped up. Leo set down the girl gently and reached down again to offer a hand to Donnie. Raph took a knee and locked his hands together to give Donnie a boost out of the room. Mikey got excited.
“Oooooh! Me next! Me next!” Raph grunted as Mikey immediately placed his foot in his hands and put a hand over Raph’s face to steady himself.
“Ugh. Just get it over with.” With a steady throw he launched his brother up out of the room. Lastly, Leo and Mikey each reached down a hand to help pull Raph up and out of the stuffy room.
Once out, Raph noticed the glow of the city night lights streaming down through the broken ceiling, accompanied by the red and blue flashes of police lights from street level.
“Sheesh. This is gonna take ages to fix
” Raph wandered away from the light towards the base of the rubble where Donnie was looking around by the far wall.
“This should lead us outta here! Come on guys!” Donnie called, closing his hologram and waving the brothers over. Mikey had scooped up the unconscious girl again while Leo guided them both carefully down the slope, stumbling a bit and causing a few rugged cement blocks to tumble down past them.
They climbed the ladder up to street level and all piled out into an alleyway. Discreetly, they climbed the closest building’s fire escape up onto a roof. Sirens were wailing as police worked to section off the collapsed road and subway entrance just around the corner. Leo was surveying the wreckage and scanning for an ambulance from the edge of the roof, when suddenly a soft sound came from Mikey that made them all pause.
They all turned to look down at the young woman whose eyes were just fluttering open, and Mikey quickly moved to place her down on the rooftop before stepping back in a crouch. They all had a little bit more experience dealing with the human shock after April, so they knew to give some space in case she screamed or passed out again.
“Mh
? Ow
.” You managed to sit up, arm coming up to grip your head in pain. You felt a bit dizzy, looking around as your vision cleared, until your eyes landed on a materializing fuzzy shape. You blinked, and wondered if you were dreaming. Right in front of your eyes was what appeared to be a large green alien-looking being crouching a few steps away, smiling and waving at you. Looking past him you saw 3 more large green men, all looking at you with a variety of different expressions. For a long moment you just looked between them in quiet pause, taking in all the details of their individual forms. One of them appeared nervous and bashful at meeting your long gaze, another standoffish, and one stood firm and steadily sized you up. The one closest to you wearing an orange bandana over his eyes looked excited as he shifted around to pull out his smart phone from his pocket and hopped a little closer.
“Hey, the name’s Mikey! You haven’t screamed yet so I'm taking that as a good sign- Can I have your number?” You raised a shocked eyebrow at the cheerful chatter and the other green men groaned, shaking their heads. But the silly casual reaction did wonders to calm your nerves. They seemed
 friendly.
Quickly, the (nervous) purple banded
 greenman
? Stepped forward and crouched beside you, slightly blocking out the excited orange one and pulled down some binoculars over his eyes, switching on a light over his shoulder.
You were a bit taken aback, nervous for a moment before he spoke.
“a-ahem, s-sorry, if you could just follow my finger for a moment?” He held up a green finger from a 3 fingered hand, and moved it from left to right. You followed. “Good. Can you tell me what city you’re in?” He reached up and oh-so gently touched your jaw to tilt your head, getting a better look at the bump on your head.
“N-New York City.” You now realized this was a concussion test and not some alien probe. “Um
Are you all wearing costumes or am I hallucinating?” You said a bit embarrassed. You weren’t scared, just mildly confused. This *was* New York afterall. After an attempted alien invasion and the arrest of a mutant rhino and warthog, anything was possible.
The red-banded turtle in the background groaned and threw his hands up, turning away. The blue one however stepped forward with a sheepish expression and a slight grin.
“Mutants, actually. We should get you to an ambulance to get your injuries properly checked out. The police would also probably appreciate a statement, if that’s alright with you.” He said leaning down slightly over his purple companion, who switched off his light and offered you a hand to stand.
“Oh
” You said, blinking a little as you looked at him. You noticed the offered hand and gratefully took it. “Thank you.” With a little effort he helped you to stand up, the orange one also jumping to his feet behind him and crowded your space at your side.
“Hey!!! You seem pretty chill! What’s your name?” The orange green man asked you excitedly, still clutching his cellphone in his hands.
You felt a bit shy but returned his smile. Mutants, huh? The news made them sound scary, but these guys just felt like
. People.
“My name is (y/n).” You said warmly. “What’s your names? The last thing I remember was being thrown onto the train tracks
Did you guys get me out of there?” You asked, looking between them.
The red one looked over his shoulder at you, looking slightly surprised. And the blue and the purple one exchanged looks. The orange one beamed and bounced on his heels, stepping in front of you and picking up your hand. The skin of his hand felt rough and calloused.
“Yeah, that was us! No need to thank us though, just doing our jobs.” He held his chin up high like he was proudly striking a pose. You giggled a bit. “My name’s Mikey! And that’s Donnie-” He stepped aside for you to see the purple one straightening suddenly and raising his hand up in a wave. “That’s Leo,” The blue one crossed his arms and nodded at you. “And the grump in the back is Raph!” Said grump shifted the toothpick he’d placed in his mouth and turned his head away, feigning disinterest.
“Wow
well, thank you- very much, regardless. I really appreciate it.” You started to shift back and forth on your feet, starting to feel the creeping discomfort of being idle on your feet for too long. You shifted your attention to your hand clasped in Mikey’s, and noticed the phone he was still holding. You reached out tentatively to take it, watching as his eyes widened in mute shock as you looked for permission. “You wanted my number, right? You seem very nice, and
I’d like it if you gave me the opportunity to thank you all properly sometime. Is
 that okay?”
You glanced over to the rest of the mutants, who all equally looked to have frozen up with shock.
“Y-yeah! Of course, dudette! You can text or call me anytime you want!” Mikey seemed flustered with barely contained excitement as he let you take his phone. You took his heavily modified smart phone and began to enter in your name and number into his contacts. Mikey turned back to his brothers and shot them a double thumbs up which made them relax with minor content. You sent yourself a message and returned his phone once you felt a buzz in your pocket. Mikey happily took his phone and looked between you and the screen like you had just gifted him the nobel prize. Then backed away to swing over a show Donnie and brag that he got a pretty girl’s number. Leo took a few steps toward you, and suddenly your eyes widened as you remembered something.
“Oh, shoot, my groceries
” You mumbled looking down in mild frustration. It was already such a difficult chore getting out of your apartment, so you huffed in annoyance realizing you would have to repeat the task.
Leo chuckled lightly hearing your discontent and placed a hand on your shoulder, drawing your attention to him.
“You can worry about that later. For now, let's just get you down there so the paramedics can get a look at you.” Leo looked past you out at the street for a moment, then leaned down slightly next to your ear and whispered. “And
Thanks for not being scared of us. I know it means a lot to Mikey.” *And the rest of us.*
The last part was left unsaid as Leo straightened with a kind smile. You felt your cheeks heat up at the sincerity and nodded your head with a grin. He felt like a strong and protective big brother, you realized. You looked past him at what you assumed were his brothers lightly roughhousing as Mikey excitedly waved around his phone.
“Let’s move out!” Leo ordered from beside you, and all the brothers turned their attention, Raph shoving Mikey one last time before they all jogged over to you both.
You turned around to look off the side of the building, wondering for a moment how you were all going to get down. Your thought was cut short as you yelped, big strong arms scooping you up like you weighed a couple of grapes.
“Hold on tight, shorty.” Raph said with husky amusement, smearing over a Mikey who was complaining about not being the one to carry you.
“Wait, where are we-” You were cut short as you startled a gasp as they all suddenly leap off the side of the building. You didn’t have enough air in your lungs to scream so your arms shot around his neck. Your arms brushed against something hard and rough attached to his back. The boys bounced off the walls of the narrow alley and landed swiftly on the ground with barely a grunt. You shifted a bit in Raph’s hold to look over his shoulder, making him grumble as he jogged towards the street. You saw up close the ridges and panes of his shell reflected in the city street light.
“Huh
turtles?” You asked curiously, settling back and looking at Raph’s profile.
He snorted a laugh. “Yeah. Turtles.” He glanced at you with an amused grin before looking back ahead.
Your lips pulled into a grin. The boys jogged through back alleys until the flashing of the police light at the safe edge of the collapsed underground came into clear view. Other hostages were standing around getting interviewed by police while some sat at the back of an ambulance wrapped in blankets. The boys jogged to a halt and Raph gently placed you down on your feet.
“They should be able to help you out. Make sure someone helps you get home safe, okay?” Leo said from beside you.
“Should you need anything, we have friends that will be in touch.” Donnie said, his attention seemingly on typing up a text message before tucking it away and looking up at you. You raised a curious brow at that.
All four brothers started to step away in preparation to leave.
“Text me when you get home angelcakes!!!” Mikey said with a wave, bouncing as he warmed up for a run.
Raph grunted but still waved at you goodbye as he turned to leave.
“Thank you again!!! I’ll see you!!” You called after them, waving from the opening of the alleyway as you watched them run and jump up the side of the building’s fire escape, marveling at their strength and speed. They whooped and laughed as they nimbly disappeared from sight, leaving nothing but the faint shadow of figures leaping over the rooftops in their wake.
Once they were out of sight, you sighed and turned again towards the flashing lights and chaos of the city street. News vans only just started to pull up as you stepped out and approached an officer who had caught your attention.
Hours later, after being checked over by a medic and given your testimony to a tired officer, you gratefully stepped out of the cab in front of your apartment building. By now it was the early hours of the morning. You panted lightly from the exertion of getting back to your apartment, exhausted. You pushed through the door and barely had the energy to shed your jacket, wallet, and keys, trudging straight to your bed. Knowing you couldn’t stand being upright any longer, and longed to lay down after the long events of the evening.
You flopped heavily down onto your mattress, barely remembering to kick your shoes off, before rolling over onto your pillow. You felt a little better now laying down, but sleep still crept up on you. Before you could pass out, you groped around for your phone and pulled it up to type out a quick text. One, to your boss, briefly explaining what happened and that you would not be fit to work tomorrow, and a second, with a grin, to the new number that popped up into your messages. You recognized the message you had sent to yourself from his phone earlier that night, reviewed it, and moved to add the name ‘Mikey’ to your contacts, making sure to add a little turtle emoji next to his name.
‘I’m back home. Thanks again for tonight. Talk to you later? :)’
You sent the text and dropped your phone to your chest. Settling back into your pillow and closing your eyes. Then the quick buzz not a moment later caught your attention, and you eagerly checked your messages again.
It was a short and quick confirmation from your boss, making you groan and roll your eyes. But the followup buzz and the message notification at the top of the screen reading ‘Mikey’ had you quickly pulling up the other conversation.
‘Heck yeah dudette!! Glad you made it back safe!! 😀 Lets talk over pizza next time!!’ The message was followed by lots of pizza and heart emojis and a little turtle emoji at the end. You grinned. He sounded exactly the same over text.
‘Pizza it is! :] Let's plan more tomorrow’
Your message was quickly responded to with a myriad of different emojis ranging from fire, winky face, and thumbs up. You chuckled and placed your phone down, satisfied and ready for sleep to consume you. You were grateful. It was a rare thing for you to make new friends in person like this. You were just hoping your lack of energy and mobility wouldn’t be a problem for them. They seemed so strong and energetic, you just hoped you would be able to keep up with them.
You turned on your side and grabbed a stray blanket to throw over yourself, and allowed yourself to go to sleep.
“Dude!!! Look!! She said we could get pizza together!!” Mikey excitedly bounced around clutching his phone on a random rooftop in Brooklyn.
Donnie adjusted his glasses to observe the bright screen in his brother’s hands. “She seems nice.” He offered, looking back up to Leo who was watching the street as a steady flow of people exited a bar.
“Yeah, she does. Just make sure you still run a thorough background check on her when we get home, and forward her info to April just in case.”
“Roger.”
“Can we head back already? My show will be on soon.” Raph complained.
“You know I can just stream Gunsmoke for you anytime, Raph.” Donnie scrunched up his nose as he regarded his brother.
“It’s not the same, I like the commercials.” He quietly grumbled as he stalked over to watch a couple stumble into an alleyway below and turned away when he confirmed their consent.
“Alright, let's head back. Good job tonight team! And Mikey- remember, no personal information until we confirm she’s safe.” Leo said, pointing to his little brother.
“Right!” Mikey stood mock salute, before running off giggling like an excited little girl, brushing past an exasperated looking Donatello.
Raph sighed, slumping his shoulders and breaking into a jog after his little bro with his brothers. “You know he’s not going to shut up about this, right?” He distantly called out as they leapt over rooftops.
A mirrored goan erupted from the other two.
“Don’t remind me.” Donnie called back as he landed on another roof, pressing some buttons to check on the police scanner.
“Guys!!! Maybe I can finally get a girlfriend!!!” Mikey yelled over his shoulder as he kicked off a shed and spun around in a cool flip.
“Shut up Mikey!” They called back in unison.
And they called an end to their night.
The End!

OMG YIPPIEEIE YOU'RE BACK🎉 you're one of my favorite Lotr blogs ever❀❀❀ hope you're having an absolutely wonderful day❀
You know when there's a short character that's comically strong? Could you do the characters of your choice reacting to a short reader just tossing them over their shoulder like it's nothing? I'd think it'd be a little funny
Thank you very much, nonnie! I hope you’re doing well, too. I picked six characters which I think would be the funniest for your prompt!
Also: I’ve decided to introduce a “humour” tag! And a divider, perhaps? What do you guys think? Anyways, have fun reading!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
✧ Boromir.
When you pick him up, Boromir is so stumped he cannot speak. How could a small person like you be so strong? Did you practice dark magic? Have you been bonded to the enemy and only now shown your true colours? It causes him quite a dramatic headache. He would stay up late by the fire to stare into it and question your relationship. Once he realises nothing had changed – you’re still yourself after all, always have been! – he would grin and exhale in relief (but still probably ask you to not do that again).
.
✧ Éomer.
You probably won a bet against Éomer, that’s why he lets you throw him over your small shoulders in the first place. He expects to hate it but actually has a lot of fun being carried around like this. The two of you would often joke about how you could become his horse (or rather: pony) and use your strength to win many bets and free drinks among those who haven’t heard of your power. Additionally, Éomer would invent legendary stories to tell about you at drinking sprees. His fun would only be over when someone would ridicule your height – then it’s time for a brawl.
.
✧ Éowyn.
When you first threw Éowyn over your shoulder, she protested like a dragon, so you let her down again quickly. But as time passes, she grows accustomed to the thought of being carried by someone she loves so deeply – just maybe not over your shoulder, but bridal style through the halls of Edoras. She would also carry you in return, needless to say, though she would often blush when asked about it. But she would always defend you against bigots! Sidenote: Éowyn loves your standing on your tip toes to kiss her ♡
.
✧ Gimli.
You and Gimli vow to never speak of the day when you effortlessly carried him all the way back home over your shoulder. Though it fractures his Dwarven pride, Gimli is impressed with your strength. After all, he was wearing his heavy armour as well as his helmet and axe. Secretly, he would think back fondly to the instance. Still, the principle remains: “No one tosses a Dwarf over their shoulder!”
.
✧ Haldir.
You wouldn’t have carried Haldir all the way back to Lothlórien if it hadn’t been absolutely necessary. But he was unconscious, so you had no choice. Other Elves of your party had volunteered, but you were quicker than anyone else (and also untiring). Every single one of you swore to never speak of this again, though you now do share a great insight joke to rile dear Haldir up more than you already do. Needless to say, he would never suspect you tiny little thing were the main culprit!
.
✧ Legolas.
Being the Elven prince that he is, Legolas likes being carried around by you (and the scandalised faces of other people) so much that he would pretend to be fainting or otherwise stricken so that you would pick him up again. He is very playful about the entire thing, throwing his long arms around your neck and kicking his legs like a damsel in distress. He would also retort to your massive strength to threaten people, should the need arise

knuckles bruised (like violets) │ jacaerys velaryon x targaryen!OC
Tumblr media
Title: knuckles bruised (like violets)
Pairing: Jacaerys Velaryon x Targaryen!OC (Daenys Targaryen, daughter of Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower)
Summary: There is no war so hateful to the gods as a war between kin, especially for those caught in between, longing only for peace as they're met with fire and blood.

Chapter 3 - Dragonstone
Word count: 3k
When Daenys opened her eyes again, she found herself back in bed. From the light beginning to filter through the window, she assumed it was already dawn. Glancing around the room, she noticed her mother sitting beside her, eyes fixed on Daenys’ hand as it rested on hers. Ser Criston stood guard by the door and was the first to notice she had awakened.
“There she is, Your Grace,” he notified Alicent. The queen looked up immediately, relief washing over her features.
“Oh, thank the Gods,” she whispered, placing her palm on her daughter’s forehead to check for a temperature. Daenys watched her, feeling a bit confused.
“What happened?” she asked.
“You fainted. From the anguish, the maester said,” Alicent informed, her lips a tight line.
“A dragonrider since you were nine, and I have to be scooping you off the floor like a damsel in distress,” quipped Ser Criston, making Daenys chuckle. The queen didn’t react.
The memory of the previous hours made Daenys’ smile fade. She couldn’t remember much, but the important bits were impossible to gloss over: Aemond had lost an eye at the hands of Lucerys Velaryon, whose brother was now her betrothed. A tight knot in her throat made her believe she might choke, but Daenys was able to speak anyway.
“What Father and Grandsire said. Do I really have to
?”
“Yes, sweetling,” Alicent confirmed, eyes full of sorrow.
At her mother’s answer, tears welled up in Daenys’ eyes, and when she spoke again she sounded half her age. “But I don’t want to.”
Alicent didn’t respond. Instead, she just held her daughter’s hand again, unable to meet her gaze.
“Is it— is it something I’ve done, is that it? Is Father cross with me?” Daenys asked, anxiety starting to bubble up in her chest again.
“Your father isn’t punishing you, Daenys
” Alicent assured, visibly tired. She had probably spent the whole night without any sleep.
“Then isn’t there anything you can do?” Daenys questioned, her voice high-pitched as she tried to speak between whimpers. “I know I misbehave sometimes, but I can change, Mother. I— I’ll marry Aemond, no one will want him without the eye but I would, I can be a good wife. And I’ll ride Silverwing less if you want, and I’ll study more. I’ll be good, I— I can be good.”
Alicent’s eyes glistened with unshed tears. She felt powerless, unable to calm her daughter since there truly was nothing she could do to change Daenys’ destiny. She recalled feeling equally vulnerable many years ago, in her youth, as her father commanded her to marry the king, to give him children, only to terrorize her with their impending deaths right before leaving her alone in a place where she did not have any friends; not anymore, at least.
Everywhere in the world they hurt little girls.
The queen rubbed her forehead, perhaps in an attempt to appease a migraine that was beginning to spread. When she looked up again, her eyes showed no sign of tenderness, only determination. As she spoke, Otto Hightower’s words came out of her mouth.
“I suppose you’re old enough to learn about sacrifice, what it really means; sometimes we must do things we dislike, especially women in our position. Do you think your sister wants to marry Aegon? Do you think I—” she cut herself, but Daenys knew exactly what she had meant to say. “When Rhaenyra sits the Iron Throne, your brother Aegon’s very existence will be a challenge to her position. This means he could be put to the sword, as could Aemond,” she explained. Daenys had to make an effort to hold in a sob. “This betrothal
It may not seem like it now, but in the future, when you’re older, it could mean the difference between life and death for this family. When a man loves his wife, he
he would be willing to spare his enemies if it saves her from heartbreak. Jacaerys is young now, but he won’t stay a boy forever, and neither will you.” Alicent put a hand on her daughter’s cheek, but this time it didn’t comfort Daenys. Instead, she felt even more entrapped by her family’s scheming. “If you do your duty well, if you manage to make him love you, then
no one would have to die.”
Responsibility fell on Daenys like a stone.
In her younger years, she had never even imagined herself marrying someone that wasn’t Aemond. As the king’s third daughter, not much was expected of her in terms of alliances with other Great Houses, as she offered little value in that regard. Now, however, it seemed that she had become her family’s strongest asset to secure peace between the two factions beginning to form.
“I don’t want Aegon to die,” she said, her voice barely a whisper.
“I know, my love,” Alicent replied with a sad smile that reflected the look in her eyes.
Daenys swallowed. “You say I must make him love me, but
what if I never love him?”
The queen took a deep breath as she raised from the chair. Bending over her daughter’s body, she kissed the girl’s forehead.
“Then you will love the children he gives you, and that shall be enough.”
______________________________________________
Watching her family sail away across the bay caused Daenys a kind of pain she had never experienced before. After trying to keep a stiff lip as she said goodbye to her siblings and other members of the royal court, it was in the solitude of the lookout that she finally allowed herself to cry for her family. At the foot of the crag, Silverwing wailed as she watched the other dragons return home.
“I figured I would find you here.”
Daenys tensed immediately, not needing to turn around. She knew who it was.
“You were very brave, you know?” Rhaenyra said, finding a place next to her sister but keeping her distance. “Goodbyes are always painful.”
Daenys couldn’t remember the last time she had spoken to Rhaenyra. Their relationship had always been strained, despite living in the same castle. Whenever Daenys showed any interest in getting close to her half-sister, her mother was quick to nip it in the bud. Over time, this led to Daenys feeling nervous whenever she found herself in Rhaenyra's presence, as if something horrible might happen as a result of a simple conversation.
“Will I be allowed to ride my dragon?” the girl asked, eyes still fixed on the ship as it got further and further.
“Why wouldn’t you be?”
“I might try to escape,” she replied simply. A small smile tugged at Rhaenyra’s lips, but Daenys didn’t see it.
“You’re not a prisoner, Daenys. You can visit your family as much as you’d like,” the woman explained.
This new information perked Daenys’ interest, her eyes finally meeting Rhaenyra’s.
“Then why must I go with you now? Why can’t I stay with my family until it’s time?” she asked, and it angered her that she could already feel her eyes welling up with tears again.
Rhaenyra breathed through her nose, trying to find the right words.
“I suggested to Father that it would be better for the two of you to become friends before you are to wed. I wouldn’t want my son to marry a stranger.”
Daenys’ gaze turned back to the horizon; she couldn’t see the ship anymore. The girl held back her tears.
As she bitterly accepted the fact that her family was truly gone, Alicent’s words resonated in her head: This betrothal could mean the difference between life and death for this family. When she looked back up at Rhaenyra, she wondered if the woman in front of her would be capable of putting her brothers to the sword. The kindness in her eyes made it difficult to fathom, leaving Daenys to ponder whether it was truthful, or just an act.
“I’m upset about Luke hurting Aemond. It was a horrible thing to do,” Daenys blurted out after a moment of silence.
Rhaenyra cast her gaze downward, as if ashamed.
“I know. It was
a confrontation that should have never happened. Both parties made mistakes last night,” she said. It bothered Daenys that Rhaenyra would compare a paternity rumor with losing an eye, but she understood what it would mean for her claim if the realm knew her sons were no true Velaryons. “But you need to make an effort and leave it in the past, or else you’ll spend the rest of your life reliving what happened.”
This betrothal could mean the difference between life and death for this family.
Daenys nodded. “I will try.”
Rhaenyra smiled sadly at her sister, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder, her thumb rubbing softly at it.
“This time together will help both of you, you’ll see,” she assured. “It is a great opportunity to get to know each other. You might find you have more in common than you think.”
“Doesn’t he hate me?” Daenys asked. “I haven’t always been kind.”
Rhaenyra smiled at the girl’s question. She knew something Daenys didn’t.
“He doesn’t,” she simply replied.
_______________________________________________
Days turned into weeks after their arrival at Dragonstone—a place Daenys had visited hundreds of times on dragonback, but never with the intention of staying. She was given her own room, near Rhaena’s, as it had been decided that Baela would stay at Driftmark after the tragic death of Ser Laenor, the last living child of Princess Rhaenys and Lord Corlys.
Rhaenyra and Daemon’s wedding had been a strange affair. The speed with which it had taken place, only a day after Laenor’s death, left Daenys with a feeling of uneasiness, wondering how it was possible to move on so quickly from such a tragedy.
Despite her initial efforts to please and fit in, she found it increasingly difficult to adapt to her new life. Each morning presented a bigger challenge than the last, until Daenys reached the point where she couldn't even leave her bed, sometimes for the entire day. She had completely lost her appetite, and once overheard the maester telling Rhaenyra that she might get sick if she continued this way. She had promised her half-sister that she wasn’t doing it on purpose and that tomorrow she would try again, but every time tomorrow came, Daenys was unable to keep her promise.
At night, she dreamed of her mother’s hands stroking her hair, of Helaena’s warmth next to her when they shared the bed during cold nights, Aemond’s stories that he seemed to never run out of, and even Aegon’s unfunny jokes that always made her roll her eyes.
That night, however, something was stopping Daenys from finding sleep: she could hear Silverwing’s song, calling for her rider to fly with her again. The girl hadn’t visited her dragon in weeks, something unprecedented since they had bonded two years before, which contributed to her feeling guilty and miserable in equal measure.
Unwilling to continue tossing and turning, she decided to finally leave her bed in search of a solution, hoping that the cover of night would spare her from encountering anyone.
The corridors of the Dragonstone castle were dark and sinuous like a dragon’s throat, and the lack of windows in the impenetrable fort made Daenys feel like she was being swallowed as she made her way downstairs to the kitchens. There, she found two kitchen maids: one old and gray, the other younger, with a pointy nose and wondering eyes that pierced hers as soon as she crossed the threshold. Daenys froze like a deer sensing a predator.
“I
Can I have some warm milk? I can’t find sleep,” she requested.
“Of course, Princess, but you shouldn’t come down here; it’s not a place for a girl of your station,” the younger one said, as the older woman poured milk into a pot over the hearth.
“It’s no bother,” she began to say, but was quickly cut off by the older woman.
“We must insist, Your Grace,” she said. “If Princess Rhaenyra finds out you’ve been here
”
“She won’t find out, because I will say nothing of it, and I would assume neither will you,” Daenys stated, the dim light in the room helping hide the pink of her cheeks for speaking so boldly. Taking a step forward, she propped herself on a wooden stool, her girlish legs dangling back and forth.
After sharing a look, the women provided what Daenys had requested: a glass of warm milk with honey that would put her to sleep right away. They watched her as she drank, perhaps wary of the young princess not liking the beverage, and smiled with relief when she thanked them for it.
She was making her way back to her chambers, already drowsy as the warmth of the milk soothed the tightness of her chest, when she heard voices coming from what she knew were Jacaerys’ quarters. The door was ajar and, as she got closer, curiosity getting the best of her, she identified the second voice as Rhaenyra’s.
“—I just thought it would be different,” Jace was saying, distress tinting his voice.
“I know, my love. I did warn you not to get your hopes up too high, imagine how you would feel if this had happened the other way around. I am sure you would also feel quite miserable in King’s Landing without your brothers, or without me.”
Afer a moment of silence in which Daenys feared she had been caught, Jace asked, “Do you think she’ll ever stop hating me?”
“I don’t think she hates you, Jace. She’s just scared, and sad, and confused
but hate is too big of a word.”
“But you heard what Maester Gerardys said. If she continues like this, she might die. And it would be my fault,” he stated. He sounded on the verge of tears, and guilt settled on Daenys like a kick in the gut.
“He did not say such a thing, dear, you’re exaggerating,” his mother refuted, trying to calm him. “What the maester said was that she might get sick, which is true, but I would never allow the situation to get to that point. If she cannot find the strength to get better, I will send her back to King’s Landing.”
Daenys’ heartbeat quickened when she heard that, but Jace’s words didn’t even let a smile form on her face.
“You cannot,” he blurted out immediately. “Please, Mother, you promised. You’ve seen the way they treat her. They either ignore her, or punish her for every single thing her siblings do.”
“I know, my love, but it is not your duty to save her. Not for now, at least
”, the woman said. “Daenys is a tough girl, Jace.”
“But she doesn’t need to be tough here. No one would mistreat her if she would only— if she would only let us—”
“I know, sweet boy,” said Rhaenyra.
Daenys felt a strange surge of defensiveness at the mention of her family, but a little voice inside her head—her rational side, perhaps—told her that, deep down, she knew Jace was right. Despite how hard she tried to make it seem like she did not care when her family mistreated her, she did. She cared deeply and suffered for it, and the fact that Jace seemed so genuinely upset about it was as confusing as it was endearing.
When Jace spoke again, his voice sounded muffled, as if he was now in his mother’s arms. Daenys wondered what it would feel like to be hugged by Rhaenyra.
“She said sorry for Ser Harwin. At Lady Laena’s funeral.”
A beat.
“That was a very kind thing to do,” Rhaenyra said. “She wouldn’t have said it if she hated you, would she?”
“No,” Jace said. “I suppose not.”
_______________________________________________
Daenys saw genuine delight spread all over her handmaiden’s features when she came into her chamber the next morning to find her already up and ready for a much needed bath.
When she entered the dining hall everyone was already there, ready to break their fast. Her cheeks lit up in shades of pink as they welcomed her, the sincerity in their cheerful comments warming Daenys’ heart.
“What an honor it is that you’ve finally deemed us worthy of your company, Princess,” said Daemon, kindly pulling Daenys’ chair for her to sit on. Another might have found the comment as an ill willed one, but Daenys knew that was Daemon’s way of expressing affection while keeping his facade.
“Leave her be, husband,” warned Rhaenyra, her tone relaxed. With a kind smile, she put her hand on her half-sister’s shoulder. “I’m glad you’re here, sweetling.”
Jace smiled at her and, to her own surprise, Daenys smiled back.
The breakfast went by smoothly, and Daenys ate her weight in duck eggs, blood pudding, bread with butter and honey, and the most delicious blackberry cakes she had ever tasted. She even licked her fingers when she finished, and the sight made Luke laugh so hard that the milk he was drinking came out of his nose.
After they all had finished, Daenys excused herself from the table.
“I would like to ride my dragon, if you don’t mind, Princess,” she told Rhaenyra. “I will stay close. Won’t fly further than Massey’s Hook, I promise.”
Rhaenyra smiled. “You don’t need my permission, sweetling.”
Gathering all the bravery she thought she possessed, Daenys asked for something else.
“Can Jace come?”
Rhaenyra raised her brows slightly, clearly surprised at the girl’s sudden change of attitude.
“Mother doesn’t let me ride Vermax that far
” said Jace, embarrassment turning his cheeks a bright red.
After a glance at Daemon, Rhaenyra breathed through her nose.
“Well, perhaps an exception can be made on a day such as today,” she said.
Jace’s face brightened up immediately, and he shot up from his chair to join Daenys. Luke protested as the pair left the hall, whining as he demanded the same exception be made with him as well, but Rhaena managed to convince him that archery training was equally as exciting.
As she watched the children go, Rhaenyra let out a sigh of relief.

Across the bay, in a dimly lit room within the Red Keep, Princess Helaena muttered to herself.
“The tears of a dragon cannot extinguish the flame destined to set the world ablaze.”

Aaaaaand we've reached the end of childhood! The next chapter will take place after the 6-year time jump, aka, the kids will all be as old as they are right now in the show, more or less.
I hope this was a good enough introduction to the different dynamics between Daenys and the other characters!
If you liked this, let me know in any way! :)

Imagine Barbossa waking you up with his wandering hands.
Tumblr media
The soft sway of the ship rocked you gently in your cot, but it wasn't the choppy waters that woke you. A calloused hand slid down your side, tracing over the curves of your waist, fingers grazing with enough pressure to send a shiver down your spine.
"Didn't mean to wake ya," a familiar voice rasped near your ear, the scent of rum on his breath unmistakable.
You cracked an eye open to find Captain Hector Barbossa leaning over you, his crooked grin illuminated by the faint moonlight filtering through the cabin. His hand lingered, and you couldn't help but arch slightly beneath his touch, though you tried not to show how much his presence thrilled you.
"Didn't mean to wake me? So, you're just getting handsy in your sleep now," you teased, your voice a little husky from being woken so suddenly.
"Aye," Barbossa drawled, his fingers making slow, deliberate patterns along your hip. "Seems me hands have a mind of their own when I'm near ya."
You rolled over to face him, catching the mischievous glint in his eye. "Seems they know exactly what they're doing."
He chuckled, low and rough, as he leaned in closer, his beard tickling your neck. "Might be they do."
You bit your lip, trying to ignore the warmth pooling in your belly. "And what's your excuse this time, Captain? Storm keeping you up?"
"Storm? No. More like the promise of somethin' sweeter than rum," he whispered, his lips hovering just above yours.
Your heart raced as his hand found your waist again, this time tugging you closer. "I should make you walk the plank for this," you warned, through your heart wasn’t in the threat.
Barbossa grinned. "Only if you join me in the water, love."
You chuckled softly, giving in to the warmth of his body against yours. "You're lucky I don't mind sharing my cot."
His voice lowered, rough and teasing. "Aye, and I'm lucky you’ve got such soft skin for me to wander over."
Your breath hitched as his fingers slipped beneath the fabric of your shirt, his touch light but firm, leaving no doubt about what was on his mind. "Keep that up, and I'll have you swabbing the deck." Another jest, but it was routine for you, playing the damsel in distress to your captain.
Barbossa smirked, his hand still exploring. "If it means I get to wake you up like this every mornin, I'll be swabbin' for all eternity."
You couldn't help but laugh, pulling him closer with a playful glare. "We'll see about that, Captain."

inspired by this post
Even after he turns in his essay, he can’t stop. It’s not like he’s never written anything before, but those were the silly daydreams of a little boy with his head in the clouds, who dreamed of movie stars and damsels in distress. What he’s doing now is important. What he’s doing now is necessary.
On the third day in a row that he’s late to dinner—so late that Soda has to reheat his plate—Darry says, “What you been writing about, Pony?”
“Yeah,” Soda says, bringing the plate over and setting it down. “You’re always still up when I try to go to bed. I’ve had to replace the batteries in your flashlight twice now. Are you writing another story?”
Pony shrugs. Suddenly, all the words that pour out of him so easily onto the page get lodged in the back of his throat.
How to describe it to them? The urge—to not forget, to hold onto what was. To wring out the words and distill them into a watered-down version of his friends. Those measly words the only things left of Johnny Cade and Dallas Winston.
“Hey, Ponyboy, what’s wrong?”
Pony blinks, and Soda’s blurry face peers at him. Out of the corner of his eye, he can see Darry scoot his chair closer to the both of them. Both wear matching expressions of concern.
“I just—” He swallows past the lump in his throat. “I just want to remember them.”
His brothers don’t say anything. So he keeps going.
“I—I can’t let them just disappear. They were here. They were real. And now they’re not. And I can’t let what their tombstones say be the only thing people remember about them. They were more than just a date.”
Soda leans over and ruffles his hair. It’s starting to grow out again finally, the natural dark roots beginning to peek through. “Don’t worry about that, Pony. You’ll never forget them. None of us will.”
“Yeah,” Darry agrees. “Dallas and Johnny were family, and family don’t—”
“I can’t remember what Mom’s perfume smelled like,” Pony bursts out. “I don’t remember what her high heels sounded like on the floor or the slight burning smell when she would curl her hair. And I try real hard to remember what it was like waking up and hearing Dad make coffee, but it’s gone. They’re fading. Like they were never actually here at all.” He clenches his fists, and there’s still a faint ache in his wrist. “I’m not gonna let that happen to them.”
He doesn’t tell them that sometimes at night, after Soda’s fully asleep and snoring like some dang bear, he sneaks out of bed and into the closet where they’ve kept Johnny’s clothes folded in a neat pile. Sometimes he holds them, brushing his fingers over the ripped jeans; sometimes he can’t bear to sully them. Which doesn’t even make sense because the shirt’s still got some of Johnny’s blood on it so it’s plenty dirty already, but he still feels like he’ll ruin it if he touches them too much or for too long.
He’s broken out of his thoughts by arms wrapping around him. A moment later, another pair of arms joins the first. And then he’s clutching onto Soda’s elbow and Darry’s forearm, and once again they’re all holding each other.
He wonders what this scene would look like to an observer: three boys in a rundown kitchen with grime caked under their fingernails and wearing clothes that don’t fit quite right. Unwanted tears escaping from tightly squeezed eyelids. A forgotten plate of food sitting on the table. No parents or friends anywhere to be seen.
He thinks they would see grief. And heartache and loneliness and pain. But maybe also hope. Maybe also love.
