Short story : A Day with Nanami

It was a crisp Saturday morning, and the sun had just begun to peek through the curtains of the cozy apartment Nanami Kento shared with his little one. Today was a special day, a day free from work, a day dedicated solely to spending time with his beloved !

Nanami gently roused his little one from sleep, his voice a soft whisper, "Good morning, sunshine. Time to wake up"

The sleepy eyes blinked open, and a smile spread across the age regressed one face's "Gwood mowning, dada..."

After a nutritious breakfast of oatmeal topped with fresh fruits, prepared with care by Kento, the two set off for their morning walk in the nearby park. The crisp air and vibrant fall colors brought a sense of calm and joy

"Look, Papa ! A squiwwel!" you exclaimed, pointing excitedly

Nanami chuckled. "Yes, it's gathering acorns for the winter. Just like how we prepare for our day"

Back home, it was time for a bit of learning. Nanami had set up a puzzle on the living room floor. "Let's see if we can put this together," he said, sitting down beside his sweetheart. They worked together, Nanami patiently guiding and teaching as you connected the pieces

After lunch, which they prepared together, sandwiches cut into fun shapes and a colorful salad, came storytime. Nanami's deep, soothing voice filled the room as he read from a book of fables. The little one listened intently, eyes wide with wonder.

As the night grew quiet, Nanami sat beside the bed, reflecting on the day, grateful for the precious bond they shared.

Ouuuugh, on the topic of agere Buggy, I don’t think Crocodile would easily be convinced to read out goodnight stories, but imagine if he DID. God that voice would put any little into a comfy fuzzy space when it speaks to them softly, Buggy must just melt everytime. Although I do feel that Crocodile scoffs at things like fairytales, especially sanitized ones. So if you want him to read to you you’ll better accept that, in his opinion, a kids story oughta be a little dark. He will read you Pinocchio but he won’t skip the part where Pinocchio outright kills the cricket first time he meets it. He’d consider the jungle book a good source of entertainment, but only if he doesn’t omit the part of Mowgli destroying an entire village from it. Robinson Crusoe and Moby Dick are just as much fit to read to a child as treasure island or Peter Pan…. No, the cannibalism and journey of revenge are not inappropriate for children, if anything they either provide excitement or lifeskills.

Buggy likely got told fairy tale fables or folk lore at best as "bed time stories". He likely got the nitty gritty seamen tales, stories of past adventures from sailors who don't think to over sweeten the tale. Some things are left out with a sudden pause, side glance and blush, but they aren't sugar-coated.

Mihawk likely has a collection of some Brothers Grimm type tales, and gods can you IMAGINE that.

Like. Somehow my first thought was that the first time was a result of Buggy getting sick. Like. Personal headcanon here that when Buggy gets sick, he gets SICK. His immune system is either GREAT or absolutely fucking horrid, no in between. So, once it's specifically gotten to the point of High Fever and Icky Feelings, Buggy just is left teetering.

Usually, he'll dip during such times, curled up, curtains around his bed or hammock pulled shut, cuddled and wrapped up around his stuffies for whatever comfort he can get.

Not many are down to let that stand, but Crocodile and Mihawk especially.

So Buggy is visited by two men who immediately begin on the gentle hands, the ruffled hair, the "how are you feeling, brat?"

And Buggy, safe, sick, sad and wanting so badly to not be so sad and icky and upset, just sniffles, hands reaching out. Getting him curled up about the bed is easy, settling him against Croc's side equally so. He's shivering and the logia user is nothing if not a walking heater. Cuddling isn't his thing, but for his clown, he'll make an exception.

Mihawk breaks out the book first, and he read aloud, something done fairly frequently already. It's familiar. It's comfortable. And Buggy dozes off, finally sleeping, and Mihawk marks the page carefully.

Later on, he goes to start making them dinner, and Buggy wakes up, groggy and so far down he's blurred out completely. And Crocodile, looking into those glazed, feverish eyes, the trust in them, the clinging fingers, the flush - he doesn't know what it is. Maybe it's nothing. Maybe it's everything.

But he picks up the book, Mihawk in the kitchen, and Crocodile reads to Buggy, offering snarky commentary and brushing tendrils of sand through sweaty blue hair.

And Buggy is mesmerized.

It's a first, one done of love.

It's not the last, as enforced by pervasive begging - and also love. But mostly begging.

i have so many hc for her in a agere situation, shes definitely a kid who has her good and bad days, sometimes she just wants to- needs to be alone because of trauma, and other days shes with them, shes a quiet little lady, but shes there just happy in the crews presence and reading. or maybe shes trying to break out of her shell and try to play a game with chopper, nami, or maybe on a really good day: sanji too. (usopp & luffy, she loves them, theyre just a bit too overwhelming together when shes little.)

i feel like it took her awhile to tell the crew about it, shes always been secretive, shes always had to be. but she realizes; “these are my nakama, they wouldnt hurt me” and just ups and tells them all randomly at dinner in a usual robin fashion

i cant imagine how that conversation would go but shed just all off a suddenly randomly drop that fact about her and everyones like “????”

and for cg robin well,

she would definitely read them stories no doubt about that. shes crack open a book, set her baby on her lap, their head on her shoulder and gently read them a fable or short story until they fall asleep.

or minor hc that when sanjis is like really little and robin has to cook the crew their dinner that night, she’ll set sanji up by her feet while she cooks so she can get things done, and sanji doesnt get upset because hes all alone :( (hes also in his kitchen which makes him happy as can be!)

^ or when hes on the bigger side robin will let him help her cook.

Considering how much I have been posting about my current brain rot with demon slayer I get you 100% with the hyperfixations. I can imagine someone like Usopp or Sanji that took forever to tell the crew and had so much mental prepping and making sure everything was perfect just to see her just out of the blue would probably be so shocking to them.

Letting Sanji be with her in the kitchen, that’s such a cute idea you have no clue how much I love that. I have such a soft spot for Robin and him truly. Probably my favorite little caregiver duo if I am being honest.

Okay but she would also be so good at playing pretend with him. Opening a pretend restaurant with a bunch of stuffed animals as customers, making orders for the little one to fill out and stuff. Ooh or if they are both small playing school

Also, idea, lil Robin, going up to her crewmates with a book in hand and just holding it out to them without saying anything. She wants someone to read to her and is too shy to ask.

Sanji and Nami would without doubt. Luffy would probably get bored half way or reading the actual words and start going off of the pictures and making up his own story. Zoro who is absolutely clueless at first and ends up rejecting her just because he doesn’t understand. Franky would do the best voices. Jinbei the best at picking really good bedtime stories and reading them.

eh i mean the people who are still worried about "reddit atheists" in 2024 are the equivalent of those japanese soldiers who were still in the mountains fighting for the emperor decades after WWII ended, but like, the fabled Right-Wing Reddit Atheist actually was a thing around like 2012-2015 or so. like i was there, i was a staunch nu-atheist back in the late 00's and ended up drifting away from atheist online communities specifically because of how right-wing they were getting at the time. r/atheism and reddit as a whole is a lot more progressive today than it used to be in the mid 10's but it didn't get it's reputation as a breeding ground for randoids and mras and incels for no reason.

i mean i think it was a product of that period of time being one where the main right-wing recruitment strategy was to try to recruit nerdy guys who had issues with women- so, redditors- whereas now right-wing recruitment focuses more on anti-vax new-agey types, and terfs. this has coincided with religiosity making a major comeback in right-wing politics- someone in the 10's who politically pivoted rightward usually did so without being expected to become christian, the amazing atheist, thunderf00t, and so on all became popular in right-wing circles while staying actively hostile to religion (!) while more recently, JP Sears, a former new-ager who pivoted to the right largely in relation to his pre-existing anti-vax beliefs, also converted to christianity during his pivot to the right, and while of course this is speculation but i don't think in the current political climate in right-wing circles that it would have been possible for him to maintain his former beliefs regarding religion while making that pivot the way that the 2010's atheists were able to.

and of course a lot of the 2010's right-wing atheist types have been pivoting back leftward- theamazingatheist it a socdem now, thunderf00t's main thing these days is taking shots at elon musk over his bad tech ideas (hyperloop and so forth). it is very funny to imagine nerdy dudes pivoting to the right because they "hate all these radical feminists and anti-science hippies on the left!" only for right-wingers to start getting cozy with terfs and anti-vaxxers immediately after lol.

one thing that is interesting to me though is that while religion (primarily [but not exclusively] christianity) has made a big comeback in right-wing politics, this doesn't seem to have correlated to a similarly large resurgence of overall religiosity in america. like if you look at the poll numbers you don't see as big a rise in church attendance as you'd expect given how adamantly right-wingers have been harping on it lately. we have seen a small dip in the number of people describing themselves as non-religious between 2022-2023, [link] but given the overall political climate one would expect this trend to both have been more dramatic and to have started earlier.

“Reddit atheism” must be an extra confusing phrase for people unfamiliar with it that go look at the atheist subreddits and it’s like, mostly just progressive politics
